Janelle hoped that she was ready for her next duel. The last two had been ........interesting to say the least. She was determined to see this one through to the bitter end. This time Janelle would be going against a fifth year, Hady to be exact. This fact caused her a bit of concern, but she was determined not to think negatively. She could do this. She would do this. It was all about using the right spells at the right time.

As she had the last time, Janelle took a moment to gather her thoughts, get her focus and concentrate on the task at hand. Turning toward the wall, she put her game face on and tried to think confidently. She would have to keep her wits about her and think quickly in order to win.

Once Janelle thought she was ready, she turned around. Then she walked to the center of the arena, facing her opponent. "Good luck Hady", she said without changing her expression. Trying to exude confidence, Janelle bowed and got right to it.

"Colloshoo", she said, firing the Stickfast Hex at Hady. She followed it up with the Disarming spell, hoping to give herself a momentary advantage. "Expelliarmus", Janelle shouted. She then immediately went into defensive mode. She had to be ready at all times for whatever came her way.

The third duel. This was the make and break duel. The duel that could land you in the top three. Last term she had come in third which hadn't been so bad but this year she was determined to do better. Expect with her previous loss to her bestie she wasn't sure that was going to happen.

Either way here she was and very much ready. Going up against a younger year wasn't a problem for her as she figured Janelle was certainly a worthy opponent otherwise they wouldn't be facing one another. Surely the Professors aimed to keep these duels as fair as possible.

As she entered the arena in the proper dueling robes, hair tied back neatly into a tight braid she made her way to the center. "Good luck," she offered simply in return. Pleasantries aside Hadleigh bent at the waist in a typical bow before straighten up and taking several steps backwards, her wand at the ready.

Not ready enough however as she suddenly found herself unable to move anymore. Inwardly sighing she knew the cause right away even though she had also heard the girl speak the hex. For the moment she would let it go simply tossing up her shield sending the spell right back, "Protego!" And just for good measure she muttered a soft, "Everte Statum."

It was a good thing that Janelle had taken her defensive stance because Hady responded quickly. Her own spell was turned against her, as Hady had managed to deflect it back in her direction. "Protego", Janelle shouted, creating a shield in front of her.

Fortunately the return spell did not reach Janelle. Unfortunately, her shield did not appear to be strong enough for what came next. Janelle heard Hady say something softly, but she was not sure what was coming her way. She just knew that she had to avoid it and and her shield was weakening. Making a quick decision, Janelle jumped to the side, hoping that the spell would miss her. It did not.

By, moving to the side, Janelle had spared herself the brunt of the spell. It did not hit her full on, but still had enough force to make her stumble. Quickly regaining her balance, Janelle fired back. Directing her wand at Hady, she said, "Incarcerous". As always, she raised her wand and prepared for whatever might be coming next.

The very moment the second spell fell from her lips Hady was about to move like she normally did. Only there was a small problem. Her feet were still currently stuck and Janelle was already recovering from her small stumble. There was no time to cast anything that would help. Actually there wasn't much time for anything. Think Hady. Think.

Unable to move out of the way she did the very next best thing. Yup. She ducked down as low as she could getting herself effectively out of the way of the robes aimed to tie her up. There was noway she would be allowing herself to get tied up right now. Before she even gave herself the chance to fully straighten up Hadleigh was aiming her wand and casting the first of her spells. Curse of the Bogies which was quickly followed by Ears to Kumquats. It was time to give herself an advantage.

Ah, it seemed that Hady was quite the elusive opponent. Janelle thought she had her for sure that time, but it was not to be. Janelle was ready to defend this time though and she had no intention of letting the return spells get through. Raising her wand, she yelled, "Protego". Concentrating with all her might, she held her shield together and deflected the spell back toward Hady.

Of course Hady did not send just one spell her way, but Janelle was prepared this time. She thought her shield was strong enough to hold, but just in case, Janelle dove out of the way. No kumquat ears for her, thank you. Recovering, Janelle fired back at Hady. "Obscuro", she said. If she could pull this spell off, it would be awesome. She had been practicing the blindfold spell on the dummies and decided to unveil it against Hady. It had to work. Whether it worked or not, Janelle prepared to defend against whatever her opponent sent back to her.

Their duel hadn't been going on very long but Hady had already learned two very simple things. She was good. And so was Janelle. For a fourth year the younger girl was doing rather well this much couldn't be denied. It meant just one thing however she the fifth year. She needed to step up her game.

As her first spell came hurtling right back at her she found herself instantly tossing up her shield to block it by the use of Protego. It was enough to hold back the force of the first spell but the next broke through her shield hitting her, everything shifting from full on color to nothingness. Hady knew what spell had struck her but that didn't stop the moment of fear that began to course through her body making her heartbeat just a tad faster. Gosh how she hated not being able to see.

"Finite," she mumbled under her breath casting the spell on herself. Letting out a slow breath as the arena came back into focus she raised her wand and aimed it just to the side of her opponent. "Verdimillious Duo!" What pretty green sparks these were. Green was such a nice color.

While this duel might seem unfair to most, the man thought it was exactly the challenge Miss Guidry needed. Not because she was struggling, moreso to push her further. And who better to challenge her than one of the best duellers in the year above hers?

So the man stood back and watched the duel unfold, his arms crossed at the chest and his eyes darting between one dueller to the other. Everything from the movements to the shield charms to the way in which Hady had been clever enough to not shout out her first attack spell was noted. Everything. And he had to give it to Miss Guidry to not give up so quickly.

And then the time was up.

Shame, really, he'd been enjoying that display of duelling ability.

The shield was up, as usual, making Hady's display of house pride pretty useless in terms of attack. Sorry, Hady. "Well done, both of you. Really well done," he said, stepping out of the shadows and heading towards the two, "Well done on not giving up, Miss Guidry. Especially in the face of a more challenging opponent." Giving up was too easy of an option. "With that being said," He turned to Hady and smiled. "Congratulations on taking the lead on your duel, Miss Lynch."
