When you are well into the common room you'll notice that one wall has recently been furnished with wall to ceiling bookcases with books to peruse to every eagle heart's content if it's for your own reading pleasure or to further your studies. And of course some comfy navy blue comfy chairs and loveseats with attached reading lamps have been provided too. A notice sticks up on a pole on the floor that reads in glowing golden handwriting:

Close to the floor to ceiling windows overlooking the grounds you find as many years before the arts and crafts nook. Here you can paint a masterpiece on one of the provided easels with paint - add ons, just choose a canvas or paper from the nearby stacks and a paintbrush and you are good to go! If painting is not your forte then eagle sketchbooks and parchments have provided with all writing material you can think of for writing a story or drawing something.
Whether you are reading or crafting it's not uncommon that you build up some hunger or thirst. If you don't want to go to go all the way down to the kitchen then there is a cookie jar provided as well as a magically run hot coco maker and mugs for every eagle's use!
SPOILER!!: Of course wands have gender's and names! Duh!

Whether or not Haddie was any good at dueling was to be determined, but it was likely that Haddie would be able to learn the spells quickly. "Mine's very sensitive to my emotions. The hazel wood absorbs emotional energy." This had caused some issues with shocking and burning fingers, as well as that time it set fire to her robes. She hadn't had any major issues with the wand absorbing energy recently. "I've heard that hazel wands can detect water underground." He? Was there such thing as male and female wands? Did her wand really have a name? Maybe it would tell her at some time, if it really did have a name. Penelope was skeptical that wands could have genders or names. Maybe she would ask someone who knew more about wands. "Wands with unicorn cores are very faithful to their owner."
"I'm not sure about making writing invisible, but I know a spell that can reveal invisible writing." Not very useful when you didn't have a way to make the writing invisible. "You could try casting the spell again." There was probably some kind of invisible ink that could be revealed with Aparecium, but she didn't know where or how to get invisible ink. The charm was the best security.
Haddie was grinning a thought of a dueling club and the fact that Penny, a witch whom, despite being a prefect, Haddie rather respected, thought she'd do well at dueling. "Sounds like fun! When do we find out if we'll have one or not?"
She nodded. Perhaps Professor Primeaux would know of some. Or maybe he could help her create one... though that'd probably be years from now before she could even dream of creating her own charms and spells. Haddie returned to practicing the wand movements, starting slow again, and picking up speed once she felt the movements were consistent and correct. She did that for a few minutes, then practiced the incantation a few times.
"Clowsaltus Obfirmo. Clowsaltus Obfirmo. Clowsaltus Obfirmo." When she was ready, Haddie nodded to Penny again and pointed her wand at her journal. "Clausaltus Obfirmo!" She made the wand movements a little quicker than last time. After checking to make sure she could still open her journal she passed it Penny to check if the spell worked.
Haddie glanced at the window, down at the tent, with the horrible Hag living in it and frowned. "Do you know anything that can keep us safe from evil Divination teachers that want to eat us, or turn us into toads or something?" She shuddered at the mention of being turned into a toad.

Penelope smiled at Haddie. With practice, the first year girl could become a great dueler. "I'm not sure. Maybe you should ask professor Hirsch about dueling club. It's fun." Dueling club was fun, and it was good practice for DADA classes. It would be awesome if the new professor got the dueling club running again this term.
Penelope took the book from Haddie and tried to open the book again. It still opened, but it was only the second time Haddie had tried the spell. "Still opens. Keep practicing, and you'll get it eventually." It would take practice, but Penelope believed that Haddie could do it.
"I'm not sure if that hag is even a real professor. Don't go near her alone; hags are known to eat children." Approaching a mysterious hag alone was not a good idea for those who did not wish to be hag food. Hopefully Hogwarts wouldn't be turning into some kind of buffet where hags could help themselves to schoolchildren. "Just out of curiosity, why are you worried that she'll eat you or turn you into a toad?" Had something happened? Penelope was somewhat worried about the fact that there was a hag, who was possibly a professor, living on the Hogwarts grounds. She missed Professor Cassie. Something was weird about that hag and the tent, and it wasn't just the smell.

"I knew it!" Haddie realized a moment later that not only had that been out loud, but a little too loud. But she had been right, the Hag did want to eat her!
"Uh, kinda too late for that," she confessed, now that she couldn't really play dumb about it. "I went down to check out the tent, alone... and well. The Hag is freaky," she sang. "She wanted me to come inside and was WAY too excited to see a kid alone. She was like a salivating dog or something. It was creepy. So I lied and told her I was with Jimmy, and we were testing out the invisibility cloak he stole from his parents, but that didn't work. And she sicced her ugly bird on me, which SO wanted to peck out my eyes and the hag was really trying to get me into her tent, so I ran and cast scourgify at her."
Haddie shrugged and looked up at Penny, a bit defensively. "It was between shooting cleaning spells at her or trying to lock her!" She slipped her journal onto her lap and rested her arms upon it, twirling Kira with her fingers. "Why would the school hire a teacher that wants to eat us? It's a big castle I mean. There are plenty of ways we could find ourselves alone with that Hag. We need better spells than a cleaning spell or locking spells to protect ourselves with." She looked up at Penny again, this time hopeful. "Know any good ones?"

Haddie had been down there by the hag's tent alone? At least she hadn't ended up as dinner for the hag. "Good thinking, Haddie. Never tell anyone who may intend to harm or eat you that you're alone. The hag could probably smell that you were the only child near her. You're safe now, and that's what really matters." She wasn't sure of how well hags could smell, but they could definitely smell children. Why would the school allow a hag, who so clearly wanted to eat the children, to live on school grounds? Could they really have a hag for a professor?
Penelope smiled at Haddie and stifled a laugh. "I don't think that works on people. There's nothing to lock. What happened with the cleaning charms?" Probably not good for fighting, but could clean the hag. Haddie would have to learn some defensive spells. "You can shoot wand sparks into the air as a distress signal if you're in trouble." Wand sparks could be seen from in the castle. "I can teach you how to disillusion yourself, which is like being invisible. Just remember that the hag can smell you." If paired with something that could temporarily impair her sense of smell, it could be an effective technique to escape from the hag. "If you find some friends who want to learn the disillusionment charm, we could play magical hide and seek." Yes, there was also a counter charm to help find those who were disillusioned.

Haddie shrugged. It made a lot more sense now how the Hag knew she was really alone. "I didn't wait and see, not with that ugly bird. But I like to think I got rid of that smell a little."
Haddie made a face. Sparks to call for help? What would save her while she waits for help to show up? Her expression changed when Penny explained what disillussionment was. Her eyes were wide with excitement. Invisibility!? Magical Hide and Seek!? Yes, please!
"Yes please! Teach us that! I'll go tell them, I'm sure they'll want to learn! Where do you want to do it? When?" She was pure eagerness now.

Teaching younger students spells and playing hide and seek was going to be so much fun! Good, Haddie would be able to find some friends to play hide and seek. "Have you ever heard of the room of requirement? It can change into almost anything as long as you have in mind what you need the room to be." The room of requirement would be the perfect location for magical hide and seek. "You go tell people, and I'll go walk around in the corridor on the seventh floor thinking about a good place to play hide and seek." Walking near the entrance of the room while thinking of what she needed was, of course, how to get the room to appear. "Any questions?"

Her eyes were wide at the description of the room of requirement. Oh, the fun she could have with that room! "No," she shook her head. "No questions." That might not have been entirely true but the first year was to excited and eager to go get her friends to think of anything more to ask.
She hopped off of her perch and rushed off to go collect her friends. "See you there!"
Who has come along and explored their creative side?
A large, rather primitive portrait, painted on the window.
Is that a portrait of a girl or... a doll?
Kitty approached the bookshelves to return Newt Scamander's Fantastical Beasts And Where To Find Them. She had finished reading it last night and was now ready to return it. But just as she was placing the book on its proper shelf, the painting on the window caught her eye. Kitty turned and looked at it wide eyes. Huh? That painting had not been there last night, so someone must have painted it during the early morning hours. But who did it?
Haddie. Only a Ravenclaw could have done it, and Haddie was the only person who Kitty thought who would do it. Kitty was even more certain it was her when she remembered what she had done to Rachel's face in Potions.
Hopefully Kitridge wouldn't take away any points when he saw it. Kitty wondered why Haddie had chosen a doll instead of something else and if that doll had any meaning to her. Did she play with dolls? Kitty would have to ask her next time she saw her.

Julien had went into the Ravenclaw tower to look at the library that was set up there. He thought it was brilliant of Kitridge to do such a thing for the students. With all the studying and being on the seventh floor they wouldn't have to drag all their books to the library, no, they could just come in here for some books. Knowing this now Julien wanted to add tot he collection some of the charm books he had purchased.
Moving into the library the first thing he saw was a girl looking at something. His brown eyes moved to where her's were and he squinted. "Did you do this?" Did she think it was fun to draw on school property? She wouldn't think it so fun after he was through.

She better get explaining..
"No sir, I didn't!" Kitty's eyes widened as Professor Julian came in and asked her if she was the one behind the painting. "I was just returning Fantastical Beasts and Where To Find Them to its shelf when I noticed the doll on the window." It was actually kind of funny, but she didn't want to get to get in trouble for it - and she didn't want Haddie to get in trouble if indeed it was her. "Last night it wasn't here. Maybe Peeves did it?"

He looked at the girl not sure he believed her, but there were two things in her favor at the moment. 1. He wasn't fully sure how she would have got up to the Window and what she would have used that she could have hid that quickly and 2. The fact that Peeves just screwed up his office. This was all just irritating. He couldn't deal with Peeves causing such chaos.
"I can believe Peeves. It seems he's been making his rounds. Do you know the cleaning charm?" If she did he was going to let her clean the window as he went to find Peeves. Maybe the Baron could help out as well. Something needed to be done.

Penelope had come down from her dorm intending to find a book in the library. Noticing that something wasn't quite right with the window, she turned instead to examine the painting. It looked human, almost like... No, it couldn't be. Her face paled as she remembered the encounter that she and Thornton had had with the exploding doll. "Don't clean that up yet." She couldn't quite tell if the portrait was of the doll that she was thinking of as it had mostly been broken pieces by the time she saw it, but someone else might be able to identify it. 'I don't think this was the work of Peeves." If it wasn't Peeves, then who or what was it? It couldn't have been the doll that she had seen because it exploded. Since the doll was apparently able to walk around on its own the doll must have been under some sort of animation spell. Perhaps it was the sort of familiar that they had learned about in Transfiguration class. Maybe the doll was some kind of spy for a master who was outside of Hogwarts. What if whoever controlled the doll had painted it? Maybe there were more dolls. An army of dolls? Unlikely, but she had seen stranger things at Hogwarts. Then again she might be wrong about the painting being the doll. This would require some investigation.
Kitty felt relieved that the Professor didn't continue to suspect her of painting the doll or whatever it was on the window. "I know Scourgify, that's a good cleaning spell. Do you want me to clean it?"
She was already pulling her wand from her robe pockets when Penny came in and said not to. "Who do you think it was?" asked Kitty wide eyed, hoping that she wouldn't say Haddie..
Puff by day, snake by night | Mj's bestie | Always UP to Something...
Nodding when Kitty said she knew the spell he was just about to leave when the Prefect walked into the room and he had to admit he wasn't impressed with her words. "Something else? I can assure you if this was not peeves then it was a student and you as a prefect better be finding the student and bringing them straight to me. We will be cleaning this up so others do not get the idea that they can write on school property." He looked between the girls and then looked back up to the window. He was sure that no student would have done this, especially claws, but they should know he would give them detention if he did find out they had done it.
"I am going to find our artist Peeves and see what he has to say, while I'm gone you can clean up this mess." It wasn't a question, it was directions that he hoped they would follow. Turning he headed out of the room and off to see if he could find Peeves.
"Don't worry we'll clean it up," Kitty reassured Julien as he walked out of the room. She was a little surprised that he hadn't been curious as to what Penelope thought painted the window.
"Who do you think painted the doll?" Kitty asked Penelope when the Professor had gone. She took out her wand and aimed it at the window. The professor may not have been curious but she certainly was. "Scourgify!"
Teapot Occamy| gryphons&giraffes&goats,OH MY | chaser of the truth | flutiful❧
"Of course I'll help clean it up, Professor. I just wanted to see what it was before the paint was cleared up. Thought I might be able to figure out who did it." There was little use in arguing with a professor, so she dropped the subject and watched as the professor left to go find Peeves. Once the professor was gone, she turned back to the window, pulled out her wand, and joined Kitty in cleaning up the window. "Scourgify!"
Professor Primeaux seemed to believe that Peeves was the culprit, but Penelope reasoned that the painting was not the work of Peeves. "Peeves would have made a mess of things or dumped paint on someone's head. Painting portraits of dolls doesn't seem like the sort of thing Peeves would do. I doubt that it was a Ravenclaw student." Penelope knew what sort of messes Peeves created, and this painting was not one of them. The question of who had done it remained. Penelope was sure that none of the Ravenclaw students would have painted this unless it was meant as a prank or someone had been possessed or otherwise externally controlled. It couldn't have been the same doll because that one had blown up and Penelope still had a bag with pieces of the doll in it. The only remaining option that she could think of was that someone had snuck into the Ravenclaw common room. This idea of someone sneaking in made Penelope feel uncomfortable. Was the painting the only thing the culprit had done? Was it a distraction from something else? Were the Ravenclaw students, including herself, safe? Who was the mysterious intruder? Whoever it was must have been connected to the doll in some way. Perhaps the doll had a master who had come to the school. Was this some kind of attack on the school? Her mind went back to something that Kitty had said about the doll. Kitty had said that the painting was of the doll. "What do you know about the doll?"
