His first duel of the term was against a girl named Grace Paton. Despite being in the same year, Yoongi did not know much about this girl. He knew she was in Slytherin but that was it. This meant he had to be extra cautious. Not for her, but for himself because he didn’t know what her dueling style was.

The Head Boy entered the arena, dressed in the armour given to them last year. He was excited for this. Not only had he trained as it was his goal this year to get in the top three but he also wanted to leave some sort of legacy behind. And not just the ‘Flower Boy who gets scared easily’

“Good luck” he smiled in her direction before he bowed and directly after that he waved his wand and casted a non-verbal ‘Colloshoo!’ towards her followed by a verbal “Periculum” and watched as the red sparks flew towards Grace.

Grace had to admit she was kind of looking forward to this duel. She was good at defence against the dark arts and liked the chance to get to practice a little more. She knew she was against the headboy, so it was going to be interesting. Hopefully she would win, but it would be some good practice. So it wouldn't matter too much. But she was determined to win

"Good luck." She murmured in response as she bowed. As Yoongi waved his wand Gracie instantly sided stepped to the left, in an attempt to dodge the spell. Although she initially dodged the non-verbal, the flares that Yoongi had done next weren't so easy to dodge. Quickly recovering Gracie waved her wand in Yoongi's direction as she cast the bag-bogey hex, quickly followed by the ear-shrivelling curse

If there was one thing that Grace had to know about him, it was that he was HIGHLY protected of his face. So when the Slytherin casted the Bat-Bogey Hex towards him and there was no light to follow, the Gryffindor quickly waved his wand and stopped the hex with the use of the protego spell. However, when he had let go of the shield to cast a spell in her direction he was hit by another spell.

Although it didn’t hurt, probably the magic, he did feel his ears shrivel up and noticed that he couldn’t hear the sounds around him anymore. What he could hear, was his own blood rushing and the beating of his heartbeat. He knew he wasn’t able to hear Grace anymore so he had to pay extra attention to what she would be doing. ‘Just like non-verbals, Yoongi, you got this’

He pointed his wand at the Slytherin again and , although he couldn’t here himself, sent the Homing Spell towards her. It zoomed like a missile locked on its target. Which it was.

Okay. So the first bit of her Duel was going well. Minus the red sparks. But she could deal with that. It actually hadn't really done anything. She felt kind of confident, though she was trying not to be overly confident. Being cocky was not going to help at all. Gracie prepared herself though for the next bit. She couldn't get distracted. That just wouldn't help at all.

Gracie frowned a little, watching Yoongi for a moment. She wasn't sure if her spell had worked, but she needed to think of the next thing. "Protego...." The girl murmured as he waved his wand at her. Recovering after a few seconds she waved her wand speaking the incantation for "Langlock". She then instantly sent a non-verbal Manus Invisibilis in the direction of Yoongi's wand arm.

This was turning out to be another short duel, it seemed. Which was a little surprising coming from two seventh years. The man expected spell after spell to be cast between the competitors and yet, that wasn't the case. Hm.

However, he did have to give it to them: the complexity of the spells cast was something to be admired. Along with the non-verbal element, of course. That was something he liked very much.

When the time was up, he placed up the shield again before stepping out towards the two. "Well done, Mr Hyland, Miss Paton. Those were some very complex spells cast, I'm impressed." Really. "But, while the effort was there, Miss Paton, Mr Hyland managed to snatch that win from you. Congratulations, Mr Head Boy!"
