Brooklyn could have come up with any number of annoyances, had she chosen to speak up during that discussion. The reason she’d stayed silent was that, for one, she refused to sound like she was repeating others, and also, she knew that some of her ideas were personal to her and her alone. She doubted even Professor Primeaux would have related, so it was easier to just keep it to herself. Enough of a list had gotten developed that she didn’t feel bad, either. Instead, she just sat there observing, listening. Making her own decisions about the lesson, and keeping an eye on the paint cans. They were at Hogwarts, after all. She didn’t trust them to stay where they were.

The introduction of the Skurge charm only made her eyes stay more firmly on the paint cans, although she’d also watched the demonstration. Her peripheral vision was perfect, after all. She could look like she was facing the professor but still keep an eye on the paint. Oh, and she didn’t remember learning the charm her third year. Not that she’d been asked.

Time for practice. She’d scribbled a few notes down about the charm first, but then took her wand out for the actual practice. The clover shape was relatively easy, really, as she traced it out a few times. Keeping her wrist tight, as instructed. That just seemed logical. It made sense. A lot more than the incantation did.

Satisified with her progress of the wand movement, Rachel was ready to begin practicing the incantation. However, she couldn't help but wonder if they were indeed going to use the spell to scare the ghosts of Hogwarts or possibly even Peeves himself. Professor Primeaux did say they wouldn't be using it to clean up ectoplasm, after all, and she could not remember another use for the spell. Intrigued about that possibility, she began saying the word without the use of her wand.

"Skurge,'' the Eagle repeated with confidence. She also said it in her best commanding voice as she was still using Ilia's advice to her. ''Skurge. Skurge. Skurge.'' It was a quite simple incantation and she was pleased that she had gotten it perfectly . It was just a matter of practice now. "Skurge,'' the girl said once more for good measure.

Janelle nodded her head in agreement as Professor Primeaux listed the students' answers on the board. Then as he introduced the charm they would be learning today, she took notes. If they weren't using the spell to clean up ectoplasm, what would they be using it for? Cleaning up paint? She guessed she'd just have to wait and see on that one. For now it was time to practice.

As always, Janelle started her practice off with the incantation. It didn't seem so hard. This time, the wand movement appeared to be the more complicated of the two spell parts. She would just have to make sure that she said the word clearly and correctly. "Skurge, Skurge, Skurge", Janelle said over and over again. It was kind of close to Scourgify, so she could see how it would be a cleaning charm. Giving it a few more tries, Janelle repeated, "Skurge". Satisfied, she was ready to try the wand movement.

Looking over the board, she could see how some of the things people had offered up could be looked at as annoying. Some of the things she thought was silly though. Usually where most people saw annoyances, AJ saw opportunities. In fact she remembered being late to her very first Astronomy lesson because of the staircases. Was she annoyed by that? Not at all. It was quite the adventure, and all she had to do was meow at the professor and BOOM AJ got out of trouble. People should just see the advantages in life rather than the disadvantages.

Anywho...

They were going to be focusing on Peeves today. This was "someone" else that AJ didn't find annoying and she had her fair share of run ins with him. He did try to get her in trouble her first year, but the sixth year found the whole thing to be down right comical. No harm done.

AJ paid attention to the professor as he went over the incantation and the wand movement. Easy enough. She could do this. Mmhmm. Practice? She was a sixth year and a total grown up. Did she really need to do that?

Deciding that she probably did, she practiced the movement making sure that she kept her wrist tight. There. Skurge, was it? "Skurge." She only said the word one time because she wasn't a first for crying out loud. She was ready to get down to trying out the real thing.

How...does a cleaning charm annoy a Poltergeist? Jace bit his lip, his brows furrowed trying to connect the dots in his head. A poltergeist is made of mischief and chaos, and from what he learned from his papa, Peeves likes to play pranks...but not really chaos unless provoked? Well, he thought the latter was understandable.

The Ravenclaw snapped out of his thoughts, got his parchment and quill out and took down notes. When he was done, he got his wand out of his arm holster and practised the wand movement. Snappy and tight clover shaped movement was done, perfecting it by repeating it a lot of times.

The list on the blackboard was quite long and because of that, the Head Boy had stopped writing notes because there were too many and some that he didn’t find annoying either. His interest did go up however when the Professor mentioned a doll. It sounded like he was talking about the same doll he had seen in the trophy room one day. So that hadn’t been a hallucination? Because one second it was there, the next poof, it was gone.

The Gryffindor turned to look at the dummies he had provided for today’s class and wondered what they were going to do. His question was soon answered as one of the dummies was summoned forwards and he saw the demonstration. So they needed to practise first and then he’d tell them what the real activity would be later? Oh ok.

Skurge was a spell he had used only once before. During his DADA OWL and ….well, he didn’t want to be reminded of that.......

It would be interesting though to see if he managed to perform this spell non-verbally as well. If there was one thing he was gifted in it was non-verbal spells. Oh and charms…and being awesome…and good looking….ok so there were more things he was gifted in than just one.

Despite already knowing the spell , Yoongi still grabbed his wand and began practising anyways. Say the incantation a couple of times and then the wand movements a few times separately. Because he needed to set a good example you know?

Azura was paying close attention to the Charms professor as he explained about the spell they were going to use. He said it had two uses! What was the other one! The green sparks were super cool though!

All right magic, lets work with me here mmmmkay? She thought to herself as she slowly started to make the wand movements.. A three leaf clover, right. She traced that in the air, Over and over.. Focusing her mind only on this spell..

No distractions.. No looking over by the door.

No wondering if...

Enough! Focus!

Being in class in jeans and a baggy, boy's t-shirt was very interesting. It was a good thing that she had stolen one of her cousin's old muggle band t-shirts, she had no idea who 'The Who' was anyways.... It was the only bit of clothing she didn't care one way or the other. The surprising part though.....was seeing the professor in such informal clothing. His outfit still seemed fresh pressed even though it was not a suit. Almost as odd as it would be to see professor Flamsteed out of a suit.....but not quite.

That was the oddest question she had ever heard a professor ask, so she just stayed silent and listen....if she said arranged marriages and her mother it would probably just bum Henric out again anyways.....Being repressed was sort of more than a pet peeve.

The answers that everyone gave though....oh dear. Had class become a massive grievance session? This was....different. Then he got to the core of the matter. Hold up.....they got to annoy peeves? Yes sir, you had her attention. Not that....you didn't out of respect before....but now it was rapt. Ohhhhhhh......

She had learned that charm from her aunt a few years back. She thought its sole use was for cleaning.....the fact that she could use it to annoy a spectral entity with professor permission though.....now this would be good. Ilia's smile came to being near a smirk.....maybe she could pair up and have more fun with it. Hmmmm.....her eyes picked through people. Who did she want for this class....besides obviously Henric was invited to her group....

Still tracing the air with the wand movement, Jace's eyes wandered from the invisible shape he was making, to the dummies near him, then to the paint. Will the professor make this classroom a space of chaos by splattering paint everywhere? But...what about the dummies? That didn't make sense to him.

Feeling his wrist go numb, Jace stopped tracing the air with the wand movement, and started to mutter the spell under his breath. "Skurge...skurge...skurge..." Hmm. It doesn't sound that difficult, but he was sure he will have trouble casting it. He'd probably mess up later too.

Sigh. It's hard being a firstie, okay?

Hady may have seemed a little out of focus as her eyes drifted slowly from the paint cans to each person around the room as they spoke and then to the board. However that just wasn't the case at all. In her hand was her quill and she was taking down all the notes on the board and then some.

Her reply hadn't been on point as the answer was Peeves which she had assumed it was even if that hadn't been the answer she had given. What a cleaning spell, paint and Peeves all had in common for the says lesson the brunette wasn't sure but she figured sooner or later they would find out.

Notes taken Hady set her quill down exchanging it for her wand now. Closing her fingers around the smooth cool wood she quietly repeated the incantation silently under her breath a few times. "Skurge. Skurge." Interesting word it was really. Short and pretty simple to remember. When she was ready to move on to the wand movement she made sure to keep her wrist tight while preforming the clover shape a couple of times. Nothing to it.

Yep, Peeves.

Esme hadn't really expected anything else after all of the horror stories she had heard about him. Fortunately he hadn't really been a problem for her - yet.

After writing down everything that was written on the board, she set about practicing the spell. Seemed pretty interesting to her and she couldn't say that she felt bad for the poltergeist because he deserved it after all the years of causing trouble. It boggled her mind that no one had him removed from the school yet. How long had he even been around for?

First Esme worked on the incantation which seemed pretty easy to her. "Skurge... Skurge... Skurge..." No more practice was needed really so it was time for her to move on to the wand movement. Picking up her wand she traced some three leaf clover shapes. As she went she made sure to keep her wrist as tight as possible.

Not so bad really.

Oh so that was what caused the green slime Kitty occasionally saw in the walls and stairs at Hogwarts. Kitty had seen some in bathroom in the second floor and had wondered if it was something from a potion. Now she knew it was probably caused by Moaning Myrtle, the awesome Ravenclaw ghost girl that Kitty had yet to meet.

She waved her wand in the air and repeated the incantation to herself. "Skurge. Skurge. Skurge."

Lots of annoyances and seemed there were no wrong answers with any of them. Dutifully copying the list into her notes, Tia couldn't deny she really liked the spell they were learning even if she wasn't sure what exactly ectoplasm consisted of. Just because skurge was just such a fun word to say.

"Skurge," the head girl said aloud being sure to elongate and enunciate the ur because of how it simply rolled off her tongue. No nonverbals at present cause she liked the way the word sounded....

Oh. Well, this lesson turned out to be not quite as amazing as she thought it would. Turns out it was just the spell that he had used to get Peeves out of his office. Yep she remembered. It was a useful little spell, and he had done it so fast that try as Haddie might, she hadn't been able to remember the wand movement well enough to reproduce it. So, she wasn't entirely disappointed that it was today's lesson. She could learn it now.

But still, the board had made it sound like they were gonna learn all a spell that could annoy anyone, not just ghosts... and messes. She already knew spells to clean up messes.

Haddie raised an eyebrow at Rachel as her best friend gave her a some sort of pointed look, and shrugged. With a sigh Haddie pulled out Kira, and started practicing the wand movement as Professor Primeaux showed them. Why did professors always insist on them practicing the wand movements and wording separately? That made no sense. How would she know if she got the wand movement right, or just thought she did until she tried the spell? If it turned out she got it wrong, she'd have to adjust her wand movement until she produced the spell, anyway. So why add an extra, pointless step to it?

Haddie learned by doing, not pretending to do.

Olivia had remained quiet in the search for potential nuisances, but that didn’t mean she wasn’t paying attention to all that was being said. Listening and scribbling down into her parchment of notes. She also had to agree with a good portion of the assembled list though admittedly she had no personal experience with the dreaded poltergeist. At least to her knowledge. But now that was apparently to be their focus today.

Peeves.

And the spell to deal with him. The Skurge Scouring Charm was added to her notes as well as a detailed description of the wand movement as demonstrated by Professor Primeaux. The clover-like gesture was going to take some getting used to. Which is why of course they were instructed to practice. The incantation in turn was easy. “Skurge…” Olivia spoke aloud as they were set to work. “Skurge!” she repeated, trying to be forceful and confident as directed. “Skurge!”

The idea of practicing the incantation seemed rather ridiculous to Brooklyn, which was why she had delayed that step as long as possible. As it was, she didn’t think there were too many different ways someone could pronounce ‘skurge’ anyway. It seemed straightforward to her, and she hadn’t seen why she needed to repeat it until it had no meaning to her at all. The unfortunate part was that she could only practice the wand movement so long before her wrist started to hurt and she had to stop. That meant there was no other way she could stall the other half of practice.

“Skurge,” she said clearly. “Skurge, skurge, skurge.” She let her eyes wander as she kept repeating the incantation, gradually getting quieter only out of boredom. The paint hadn’t gone anywhere as of yet, for which she was thankful, and the dummies still looked as if they were staying in one place. There really was a lack of real distractions in this classroom. It was annoying.

Okay. First of all, WHAT was wrong with people who couldn't sit still? Ariadne was NEVER still. Not for long, at least. She was twelve years old, and people her age just didn't lounge around in recliners all day long. PARTY POOPERS. Second of all, EWWW to the sticky, green ectoplasm. If she ever DID encounter it, she couldn't say that she would be anxious to clean it up. She kind of thought she'd just step over it and go in the opposite direction.

AHEM.

She'd learn the charm, though! She'd learn it, AND if she ever saw the sticky, green ectoplasm, who knows? She might even clean it up!


So...Skurge? That was it? ... It sounded funny without all the Latin parts! "Skurge!" she said out loud. "Skurge!" She flicked her wand out her holster and waved it around in the same, three-leaf-clover formation the professor had. Then separately, she said, "Skurge!" Okay. That was SO super easy! Ariadne thought she could handle this, for sure.

Skurge, hmmm? Was it only good for ectoplasm, or would any mess do? Because Tergeo and Scourgify only got you so far, but a good goop-goner would be really wonderful.

Dot considered goop-goner as a potential name for a wrock band as she drew lazy clovers in the air. Funny that it was three-pronged and green. Did the spell have something to do with leprechauns? Maybe they were ectoplasmic goblins or something.

Focusing now. "Skurge. Skuuuuuurge."

Having the full satisfaction of both the wand and incantation, Rachel went over to a dummy after saying to Haddie and Olivia, ''You girls can join me when you're done practicing.'' Goodness knows as first years working on a spell usually taught at third year they would need each others help and encouragement.

Here she went, actually practicing the spell. "Skurge.'' The three leaf clover movement was completed with Rachel keeping her wrist tight and commanding the spell as best as she could. She did not expect green sparks to come shooting out on her first attempt and it was certainly a good thing she hadn't set her hopes up.

Not so much of a flash of light made itself seen. "Skurge.'' The girl tried again, repeating all of the previous steps but they still yielded nothing whatsoever. "Skurge.'' Nada. "Skurge.'' Zilch. Rachel bit her lower lip, staring at the dummy. It was possible she needed to be more commanding and confident.

Hugo wrote a few notes down before practicing the spell. He still was wondering why they were going to use the paint and art supplies, he could find a very good use like painting Dante's face while he's sleeping. Yeah that sounded good for him.

The boy took his wand out and traced a clover figure in the air, just trying to get the hang of it before practicing the incantation. He kept doing that until felt zoning out. He looked around and watched the others doing the same thing, the professor should let them do something else at least. Guess it was time to repeat the incantation over and over again, Hugo looked at the chalkboard. Skurge. Didn't that sounded like Scrooge? The greedy man who hated Christmas? From a very old Muggle movie, yeah.

Anyways, he started to repeat the incantation "Skurge" but sometimes he would say it wrong. Oh well, hopefully he was going to cast it perfectly in the end.

Somebody was pointing at him! A Ravenclaw girl, to be exact. Carl almost freaked out, afraid that he had said something wrong, but quickly realized that she was simply agreeing with his answer. He grinned at her and turned his attention to the board as a list of annoyances appeared. There was his answer, number two!

He took notes on the Skurge spell, something he had read about somewhere. It had a fascinating effect, really. When he was done and had listened to Professor Primeaux's instructions, he took out his wand and practiced the wand movement. It was harder than the usual point or flick of his wrist - it was a three leaf clover! He tried to remember how the Professor had done it and repeated the movement many times, making sure that his wrist stayed tight.

When he was satisfied with his progress, the First Year moved on to practicing the incantation. He put his wand in his pocket and focused his gaze on a dummy in a corner of the room. "Skurge," he said. "Skurge, Skurge, Skurge." He repeated clearly and loudly, though not loud enough to disturb his peers. "Skuuurge. Skurgeee. Skurge." Just playing around with the incantation now. It was a funny word.

Carl then alternated between practicing the wand movement and the incantation. Three leaf clover, Skurge.

Melbourne was booooored of this note-taking thing. Really? When were they doing to do something fun with these classes? Like learn how to blast things? Gosh…it probably would have been more fun to be born a blast-ended skrewt.

Glancing around at everyone she watched as Carl practiced the spell…oh…that sounded funny. Moving closer to the friend in question, “I don’t like the stairs either really” she muttered barely over a whisper before pointing her wand at one of the Dummy’s. “Skuuuuurge” she snorted out a laugh. “Such a silly word” she clucked out “skuuuurge skurge skurgeeee skurge skurge” yep. This was faaar more entertaining than it should have been.

Ohhhh so they'll be using a kind of scouring spell today? Is that what the paints are for? But he wasn’t sure how all these relates to them looong list of annoyances of which food related matters seem to be a big thing. Well granted if someone stole his food or grabbed something off his plate he'd be roaring like an angry wildcat too.

But right scouring spell thingy with the green sparkly thingies. The leonine lad hasn’t been this excited about cleaning until now.

So wand stroke first because actiony yeah. "One.... two... Three..." he practiced with his Alder wood. It looked right, but then the Professor said to keep his wrist tight. Oops.

He tried it again, but this time found it to be harder to do. Dang how depended was he with the wrist action eh? He grabbed his wrist with his other hand and tried to do the clover leaf thing until he got used to it.

Julien walked around the room as the students started. He nodded in the directions of many that seemed to be doing it correctly, "Very good all of you. Remember learning can be done as a team, so if you see someone needing help please help them." He was very supportive of the saying it takes a community to raise a child, the same went for learning. They were that community in this room. "Does anyone have any questions about this charm?" His eyes checking his watch once more. He wasn't preoccupied, nope, just all about looking at the time.

"If you are comfortable with the practicing of the spell you can feel free to grab a dummy like I said before. I have them charmed to move back if the charm is strong enough. Even the youngest witch and wizard can make the charm work. When it comes to Peeves though, the charm needs to be strong enough to spook him. It won't fully keep him away, but it will push him back away from you if he is bugging you. "


He moved along the other side of the room watching the rest of the students practice.

"Skurge," Hadleigh muttered once more under her breath even though she didn't feel like she had to do so. She even went ahead and made show of giving the proper wand movement in the shape of the clover as well, her wrist staying tight the whole time. It wasn't difficult so much as it made her wrist hurt a little from the repeated practice. A little pain never hurt no one though and she knew this.

Hearing Professor Primeaux announce that they could move on and work with one of the of the dummies if they were ready Hady rose to her feet and pushed in her chair. No sense in sitting around doing nothing if she knew she could successfully preform the charm.

Making her way across the room she selected the closest dummy, wand raised out in front of her. For now she would work alone, anyone could join her if they liked she wouldn't mind pairing up with someone. Clearing her throat quietly, hazel eyes fixed on the dummy in front of her she cast firmly, "Skurge!", while doing the movement with her wand her wrist remaining tightly in place.

Her spell hit the dummy squarely in the chest knocking it back just a little bit. It wasn't as strong as she would've liked but this was a start in assuring herself that she had done it correctly at least.
