Default Charms Lesson 1, Room 1

The door to the charms room is wide open, but as you walk in you will notice that there are not desks, no seats, no professor. Just a big empty room with many glass cabinets around the walls. What could possibly be going on and where would Professor Primeaux be that he wasn't there. As you stand and wait you might notice that there are enough glass cabinets for every student in the school, one right on top of the other.

As the last person comes into the room the door shuts and a voice echos the room. It seems Professor Primeaux had the room charmed to record and play his own voice. "Good morning students. As you might have noticed the room is empty and I have decided not to formally attend at the moment. After the things I have seen from the students here at Hogwarts I've decided you need a test on how much you want to learn and succeed. My job is to teach you, but I can only teach students that want to try and work hard. Your first test directions are on the board in the front of the room."

Writing appears on the board with the direction for the students first activity.

Inside the box will be the number code to get into the next room. You can not get into the next room without using the numbers. Each number code will permit one person through.

First years I know this is your first lesson in charms so this will be your biggest test. Your fellow students that are older then you especially your student leaders are there to help you, be good role models for you, and show you what a leader and a classmate really is. They should be helping you with the spell if you need it, so do not hesitate to ask. Do not be afraid to fail, it will only help you learn and become better.

Good Luck

OOC: Hello everyone! Just as Julien said he has given your charrie a test right away! What you need to do is have your character do the steps and you can say whether they are doing well or not. Please be realistic about your students age and ability. If they don't make it through that is alright, that is what makes the RP fun everyone being different. You can work alone or with partners. I will be posted quoting your post once you have RP'd the steps (each step should be a post, so four post at the minimum) with the number code and the entrance into the next step. Have fun and any questions please let me know. Julien might not physically be there, but he would never leave a group of students unsupervised fully. If you have not made yourself and your charrie aware of his rules, please do so here.

Just to Clarify!

Some of you have messaged me today so I wanted to ease your concerns!

1. Breath there is no deadline at the moment. I'm going with the flow of the Rp's right now. If I need to put a time I will give you a 24 hour notice maybe longer!

2. Work at your own pace!PLEASE don't get overwhelmed by the post count. I have not posted any directions other than right here! So read here and go have fun! I don't want anyone missing out because they see seven + pages and think they are too far behind. YOU ARE NOT!! I promise!

2. No, not every student is expected to know these spells like above it is okay to play a first year failing, or any Charrie really. At the end everyone will be allowed into the last area!

3. Thank you for having fun! I'm so enjoying reading these so far.

There comes a time where things do need to wrap up! I would like to move on Tuesday, January 12. So I will be closing room 1 and 2 at that point. You will have until Tuesday at 3 p.m. EST to finish up on any of your post! Once these are closed it will be said that door have opened for your character to just go straight to the classroom! Remember it is okay if your character did not get all the way through!!

Once she'd heard the click! that indicated her successful use of the spell (no surprise there), Maggie stepped closer to the box again. Nothing weird sprang out at her so it appeared to be save to pick it up. Plus, the people around her had just done that too so...but one could never be TOO careful at Hogwarts.

The professors were all a little insane.

Maggie picked up the box and looked inside. Five, Two, Four, Seven. Five, Two, Four, Seven. Five, Two, Four, Seven. Five, Two, Four, Seven. She repeated it in her head a few times before setting the box down again and making her way over to the door (she didn't have to BRING the box right?). "Five, Two, Four, Seven." She waited for the door to unlock before moving onto the second room.

More locking and unlocking?

CLICK!

Ava heard the clicked sound once she pointed her wand to the box and cast the unlocking charm. So... she did it, right? She did unlock the box? Well, maybe she needed to check if she was sure. The young lioness tried to open the box and... YAYYYY!!! SHE DID IT! SHE SUCCESSFULLY UNLOCKED THE BOX JUST IN ONE TRY NOW!!

Ehem.

And now what's the next task? Oh, look! There's a parchment inside the box, so this might be the secret code for the next task?

COUSIN? Did she say Cousin? Mel’s smile broadened again and all she wanted to do was give Sha a BIG old hug because…well, obviously it meant that Thunder viewed her like a kid and that was just…she loved Thunder. Really. He was going to get ALL the boy related questions not her silly brothers. They were silly. “Hi,” she smiled at the other girl as today was a beautiful day and she had cousins in school with her! “If you need help I’ll practice with you…I probably need more work too” she admitted with a grin after all learning the spell wasn’t the hard part…it was making it become fluid like a muscle memory that was the hard part.

"Al-LOH-ha-MOR-ah," she repeated to the girls. "Al-LOH-ha-MOR-ah?" Okay, it made sense that she had to pronounce the funny word correctly for it to work. What was new information to her - well, everything was new, but this especially - was that she had to wave her wand....not in a wave? In an 'S'? That was a thing?

Lucy pictured the cabinet opening, waved her wand in an 'S' in front of it, and said, "Alohamora," correctly this time. Then reached out and...shook the cabinet door as it was still locked. She looked up at the older girls expectantly because....it didn't work.

Turning to the younger girl, she offered encouragement. "You're getting the hang of it. Just keep practicing and don't lose your focus. You'll get it. Sometimes it takes a few tries for everything to click." Sometimes it took a lot more than a few tries, but Janelle kept that to herself. She didn't want to crush her confidence.

In the meantime, Janelle put her box back on the floor and dropped to her knees. The box had to be opened and she might as well get comfortable. Concentrating, she carefully carried out the wand movement and said, "Alohomora". Janelle made sure she said the incantation clearly, taking care to pronounce each syllable correctly. Since she was trying to set a good example, she had to get it right.

Fortunately, when Janelle checked, the box was unlocked. Now all she had to do was find the code inside of the box and make sure that the other girl completed her task too.

Marsha wasn’t sure what she had said that made Mel look like she could burst, but happy bursting was much better than sad bursting when the tears don’t stop and you look awful afterwards. Nope, she was quite happy to make Mel THAT happy whenever she was around. Family was supposed to help and be nice like that… it just didn’t always work. Especially not with as large and dysfunctional a family as their own. In fact… Individually hers was insane. And Melon’s was crazy… Now that they were linked she didn’t know if ‘dysfunctional’ was … well weird enough to describe it properly.

Holding her box under her arm, she watched happily as Lucy attempted the charm again. She shot Janelle a grin when she told Lucy that practise was important and it could take a few times. She knew that it could definitely take time. She didn’t know how long she had tried to practise starting a fire before Professor Maddox had told her that she was butchering the charm and had helped her. Sometimes a gentle nudge was all it took… and her Professors and fellow students had certainly helped her when she had just started out so now it was her turn to help.

As Janelle continued to watch the younger Ravenclaw try to open her cabinet and offer her more advice, she turned back to her own cabinet so that she could lock it. She double checked over her shoulder if Melon had followed her so that she could teach her if she had. With a smile, she spoke to Mel so that they could both try this together. Their cabinets WERE right next to each other after all.

”Okay, so. The counter-charm to the locking spell which is Colloportus. Slowly, that is cull-low-PORE-tus.” She gave Mel a smile as she waited for her to repeat it. ”Cull-low-PORE-tus.” She said again nodding. ”Yeah, that’s good. Great even. Okay the wand movement is like this.” Shows a flourish of her wand, where she pulls the wand to one side and then back across to where she started. Again, the Lioness waited for her cousin to practise and to copy what she had done before grinning at her. ”Amazing. Okay, lets try this together. Remember to think about the fact that you are locking the cabinet and no-one else should be able to open it when you are casting.”

Turning back to the cabinet, Marsha held her wand up and said firmly, ”Colloportus!” She smiled as she heard a click. When she tried to open the cabinet door it didn’t move.

"Yeah yeah I know...just step aside." He took a deep breath again. Colloportus...he needed to get this done quickly...."Collo---Colloportus!" The second year didn't stop to go check if the cabinet was indeed closed, but instead turned to do the second part of the assignment.

"Just hold the box....." He grinned.."And hope I don't miss. I'm not sure what would happen if you get hit with an alohomora spell." Okay so he was joking...it would be pretty wild of him to miss but still...he was curious...

"Alohomora!" He said clearly while pointing the wand at the box. "It's all you from here mate."
Har har, his cousin was an absolute comedian. Truly he told the best jokes, like suddenly hitting him with the spell when he was holding the box SO FAR AWAY FROM HIM. It was safe to say that if he lived through it, Bentley would not but Blaise wasn't worried at all because his cousin knew what he was doing. Of the two of them, he was the only one that knew...though not completely true. The little boy knew both spells as well as one would expect but trying them was another story entirely.

He waited for the familiar click, already over the cabinet that was assumed to be locked by now. When it came, the boy pried open the box so they could retrieve the numbers.

Took a bit of work too considering even when unlocked it seemed to be a bit jammed but no worries, with a little extra effort on his part (because clearly Bentley wasn't the ONLY hard worker), Blaise managed to yank the box open.

It didn't escape him that Daxton had gotten someone else to do the same for him. They were almost one and the same--though for very different reasons. Anywho, numbers.

Henric shook his head a little at Rachel,"Aww come on...Rach, she's always been kind and helpful. I'm just happy you guys are getting along wel-...umm...we'll get there eventually, right girls?" he implied. Man...he shouldn't push his luck. Alright...time to figure out what are the numbers on this parchment meant. Mhmm...he should just stick with llia on this. Henric wasn't much of codebreaker anyway. "Let me get your box and I locked it back for you,"he offered kindly to llia. Henric put the boxes in their respective place and gently closed the cabinet lid. He then proceed to lock it with a locking charm. “Colloportus!”

"Any idea what the code means? Where should we go from here again?" he asked the both of them.

Now, Ilia was just teasing and trying to be cute. When he added the for good of course, her eyebrow raised at him. Why would you even mention that unless you were in fact NOT using it for purely benign purpose? Still, she just let it go and shook her head. "Just teasing you."

Well, at least Henric was defending her against Rachel Mcbraticus' accusations. After all, Ilia was not saying anything rude or mean about her. What she thought in her head was her own business.

She toyed with the little sequence of numbers in her hand and thought for a moment. He was going to lock the little box away for her? Okay.....not like she was having any trouble whatsoever but it was fine. So cabinet open, check. Box open, check. Numbers retrieved, check. Cabinet locked, check. Now she supposed all that was left was to try and open the next room.

"The numbers are our access code for the next room. Now we should simply need to open it and gain entry." She looked the room over and smiled at Henric as a muggle reference came to her head. "Speak 'friend' and enter?" Yup, she said something muggle, she was so pleased with herself. Would he be proud of her?

SPOILER!!: Carl!
Carl thought hard, his brows furrowed. What had gone wrong? He knew for one thing that he did not say the word right. "Alohomora, Alohomora, Alohomora." He repeated under his breath, making sure that he said every syllable clearly.

Then, he saw an older girl make her way to a cabinet near him. Carl smiled back at her, wondering if she saw his weak attempt at the unlocking charm. Apparently she did, for she shook her head gave him more advice. Stepping back from the cabinet immediately, he listened carefully to everything she said and watched her demonstration.

Aaand her cabinet was unlocked! "Wow. I mean, thank you." He said and turned to his own task. He pointed his wand at the lock and said, "Alohomora." There was movement at the lock! Or ... maybe it was just a trick of the light. The cabinet was still shut tight. Carl cleared his throat for another try. "Alohomora!" He said clearly, pointing his wand firmly at the lock.

With a click, the cabinet opened up. The Hufflepuff grinned properly for the first time since the door to the charms room shut. He pulled out the small box inside and closed the cabinet door again. "Uh, could you teach me the locking charm too?" He asked, looking at the girl.

Hady could feel the younger Hufflepuff watching her every move. It was totally fine by her really. That's how people learned most of the time. Watching closely and then giving it a go on their own. "No problem, just always remember to make sure you're being clear about what you want. Never ask the wand to do something, you need to tell it to do it," she explained with a light laugh. Stepping back a little bit to give him room she watched as he gave the charm a try. First time was a no go but the second time worked jsut well for him. "Nice job and sure thing. It's basically the same thing just saying 'Colloportus' rather then 'Alohomora'. It's a little tougher but I bet you can get it in no time. Give it a try?" Hady pointed her wand at the cabinet before them and cast the locking charm, hearing it click locked tight she then cast the unlocking charm once more so that Carl could give it a try. "Once you got that down it's the same unlocking charm for the box."

SPOILER!!: Daxton!
So, exactly how was this number code kept inside the box? On parchment? Carved into the bottom of the box on the inside? Daxton only hoped it would not jump out of him, accompanied with glitter and confetti or anything like that, but one could never be sure. He tried to pry it open sans magic, just to make sure this was not a test to make sure they were checking all the obvious answers (it was not), then held the box by his ear and gave it a good shake, to see what he could hear.

Not that that would help him get into it. Daxton was fully aware that the Unlocking Charm would likely be the only way of getting inside... unless he found a way to destroy this, too? Alas, he had no hammer. Maybe a heavy textbook, dropped onto it from as high as he could reach?

The Ravenclaw was struck by a sudden idea, and surveyed the room once again. But before he could find what he was looking for, he noticed an older student approach, and he blinked at her. Frowning, mostly in confusion, Daxton only shook his head in response to her latter question, despite being visibly fine, and watched as the older girl (Lynch? Was that her name? Daxton thought it might be) fixed the glass. He had not asked her too, and it was sort of annoying in that so many older students just thrust their assistance at him regardless of what he wanted, asked for, or accepted... but now his cabinet looked exactly like those of the students that had followed the instructions exactly. This had all worked out quite well for Daxton.

He continued watching the girl even as she turned to help another student, considering he carefully. After a moment, Daxton decided against using her for his plan, in case it gave her the impression that he appreciated or required her help. Instead, he scanned the other students in the immediate vicinity, fiddling with the box in his hands, looking for something in particular. And waiting... waiting for the right moment...

With the glass fixed Hadleigh turned her sights on the younger boy once more for just a second. He might not have spoken at all but the shake of his head was enough for her. At least he hadn't been hurt at all even if the glass breaking was done on purpose. No more words were said to him but she did give him a small smirk at his creativeness to do things on his own without the use of his wand.

SPOILER!!: Haddie!
Haddie scoffed and rolled her eyes. "Uh huh, yep. Yeah. That's what I've been doing. Exactly. A lot." She sighed. Old people! Always think it's because you're not doing the simplest things. Every time. "Here, see." She grabbed the older Slytherin girl's hand and dragged her along to the cabinet Haddie was using.

"Stand here." She positioned the girl by the shoulders. "Watch." Haddie turned back to the cabinet, raised her wand and checked to make sure the Slytherin was watching. "Colloportus!" Her voice was filled with the same confidence that was quickly becoming her signature. Click. She tugged on the cabinet door, showing it was locked. "See, it works." Haddie folded her arms and waited a moment. "Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaa, " she gasped, "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa," Click, "aaaaand there it is." A quick tug on the door and it popped open. "See?"

She paused, then tried again, this time to illustrate that even keeping her mind on it staying locked didn't seem to work. Haddie aimed her wand again and closed her eyes. A simple lock appeared in her mind, locked tightly and staying that way. "Colloportus!" Click. She kept her eyes closed, kept that imagine of a lock staying forever locked, never unlocking, never budging, just remaining locked and... "Click.

Haddie sighed, turned to her tutor and shrugged. "So now what?"

Brushing a lock of stray brown hair from her face the female snake completely ignored the eye rolling from the younger girl. The attitude she was also given went uncommented on as well even when her arm was grabbed and she was pulled along. Lightly pulling herself free she blinked at the girl. No need to start anything Hady. Mouth shut she looked at the cabinet and how the girl was working the charm. Form was right, wording correct. Hmm. "I see. That's rather strange. How about giving it a go on a different cabinet real quick? Maybe there's just something wrong with this one." It was unlikely yes but it was possible. If the same thing happened on a different cabinet then it was clearly something with how the first year was casting the spell and Hady would have to try something else.

---
Hady didn't mind one bit giving assistance to anyone else that may have needed it. However she couldn't forget that she herself still needed to complete the test. So without waiting another second she knelt down on one knee, set the box down on the floor a few inches away and aimed her wand at it. "Alohomora!," she cast clearly. It took hardly a second before she heard her box click open just as she knew it would. Prefect.

Charms class! And do you know what that means??

It means Tenacius will finally get the chance to put his 12 and a half inch, Alder wood, Dragon heartstring core through its paces yaaaaaas!

The curly top breezed through the Charms doorway only to stop short on the blackboard. Holy pop quizzes Batman! He shifted to look around, uncertain if he should really go for it. Making the jump isnt his issue, its when he goes splat that’s kinda the problem.

He took out his wand and gripped it. The initial excitement has started to return. Oh what the heck, whats the worst that could happen eh? Fire? Well theres a whole lake outside so no worries right?

He approached the cabinet and pointed at it. "Alo--" wait, what was the wand stroke? Recall, recall, recall… nada. He has to look at the book. Can he look at the book during a test? No? WELL WHO'S GONNA STOP HIM???

Popping that book open, jump to the index, flip flip flip flip-- aha! Alohamora. His head shifted back and forth between his book and the tip of his wand. Ok he has this.

"Alohamora." there goes the squiggle of his wand.

Seizing the cabinet door and-- nothing. Still locked.

He tried it a few more times. Same thing.

"Maybe I'm saying it wrong…." he wondered as he peered at his book again. He mumbled a few versions of it while doing the wand stroke. Eurgh why cant this thing just come at him and spew out the box eh?

*BUMP*

"AHHHH!!" he yelped as he took a few steps back. What what what??? Its floating.

What did he do??? What should he do???

"Get back on the floor!" he growled as he reached out, trying to push it back down. It would touch the floor but then would float right back up again, like a low hanging balloon. Panic started to give way to embarrassment. He has to get this thing to stop floating. But how would he get it to stop if he didn’t know how it started in the first place? At the very least, he had to weigh it down.

So there goes the curly haired boy, flinging himself onto the cabinet, riding it like a bull.

Carl grinned and nodded. That was some good advice - never ask the wand to do something, tell it to do it. He guessed it would apply to other subjects and spells too. He looked down at the small box in his hand, knowing from the directions on the board that it was locked too.

So the Colloportus charm was similar to Alohomora. "Got it," Carl said and watched as the older girl cast the spell. "Colloportus, Colloportus, Colloportus." He muttered the word softly before pointing his wand at the cabinet lock again, his hold on the wooden stick firm. "Colloporrr- uh." He sighed, feeling his face reddening slightly. "Colloportus." He repeated, but this time the hand holding his wand jerked a little. With a nervous glance at his mentor, he readjusted his wand and said clearly, "Colloportus!" There was a click as the cabinet locked itself.

"Yes!" He cheered, breaking into a grin once more. "Thanks for all your help. I am Carl, by the way." The Hufflepuff said, seeing as he now got the hang of the unlocking and locking charms and the girl had already completed her first tasks. Now, he had to move on to unlocking his own box!

... And was that Tenacius with a levitating cabinet?

Default Post 4 Opening the Box
Mom says I have no sense of direction, so I packed my bags and right.

with his Box in hand Torrance moved off the the corner of the classroom. So not to be as distracted as he was earlier. He too a seat, sitting cross-legged and placing the box in his lap. He shook it i his hand to see if he could hear the contents of the box, but it felt rather empty.

He cracked his neck moving his head back and forth, and then his knuckles. This required intense concentration right?

The Lion flicked his wand at the box and spoke "Alohomora" He heard the small box click and he flipped the lid open. Grabbing the small piece of paper from with and holding it over his head in triumph once more.

A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.

After opening the cabinet, Yoongi looked around for anyone needing help. But although there were some students who needed help , especially the first years, he wasn’t needed. A small smile tucked on his face as the other older students went around and helped the younger ones, feeling a sense of pride as he watched for a moment. Realising that he was wasting time by observing the others, the Head Boy turned back to his own cabinet and decided to focus on getting the combination numbers to get in to the next room.

He reached inside the cabinet and pulled out the small box. Taking it out and holding it in his hand, Yoongi pointed his wand at the cabinet and non-verbally locked it this time with the ‘Colloportus’ charm.

She did it! Kaylee did it! Norah held her hand out to give the girl a high five and a huge smile before returning to her own cabinet, which was unlocked and just WAITING to be opened. "Congratulations! That was awesome." For sure. She couldn't remember learning this particular spell, but most of the time she never got anything on the first day of trying. Or not completely right, at least. This stuff was super duper hard, especially at the beginning.

She reached into the cabinet and pulled out a little box. Oh man. It was ADORABLE. She held the itty bitty box close to her chest just to appreciate its smallness (small things were automatically cute, okay?) just as Davie Truebridge left the room following that baby Kettleburn one whose name she absolutely could not remember, but was definitely a Kettleburn. She'd WATCHED that sorting, uh huh. Anybody who yelled so excitedly for their sibling was automatically a kindred spirit. She'd decided. No doubt about that one. A small wrinkle appeared between her eyebrows as she watched the door, waiting for it to swing right back open, but it didn't. Were they okay? Was the baby Kettleburn sick? Did they need help? Was something going to EXPLODE?

With her small box still in hand, Norah made up her mind and marched over to the door, completely ready to do some helping, but just as she got close, the door swung open and both of the boys were back again. Huh. That was strange, but she wasn't going to question it 'cause it sure looked like they were good little muffins and had everything under control. The sixth year speed-walked back to her cabinet, trying to look as if she'd just been taking a stroll over to the door--y'know, for fresh...door air--and watched from there as both boys successfully completed the spell and all was right with the world. WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE. She considered giving the baby Kettleburn a thumbs up for all his BIG SUCCESSES, but decided against it 'cause they hadn't even been officially introduced yet, and instead turned her attention to the cabinet. That need to be locked, uh huh.

SPOILER!!: Carl!

Hady had gotten herself into the habit of normally preforming the charm or at least the wand motions for it whenever she was showing someone else. A lot of people had to SEE something in order to fully understand. She was all for reading it, seeing it and then doing it. Over and over again.

So watching as Carl repeated the charm incantation several times she couldn't help but grin at him. Kid had the right idea there. Getting a feel for how to say it was the right way to go. Even when the boy stumbled over the incantation at first and then his hand shook when he attempted to give it ago Hady never once lost faith in him. "It's okay, take your time. You got this," she encouraged quietly.

She was right too. Watching as he successfully locked the cabinet she nodded her approval. "No problem. It's nice meeting you Carl, I'm Hady. Anytime you're unsure of something feel free to find me, kay'?" If he ever had trouble with anything he could come to her. Anyone could really. If she knew how to do something she'd offer her assistance. "Want to give opening the box a go?"

Default #3: locking it
¼ of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pls

Katherine wrinkled her nose when Tory seemed to have locked it back without any problems. Ew. No. If he could, so could SHE! Therefore, as she had watched several older students already doing that charm, she went through the same process: First, she visualised how the lock would be locked. She replayed the image a few times in her mind. Then, she practised the wand movement: A flourish of her wand as she pulled it to one side and back again to where she started. And at last, she pronounced the word to herself: "Colloportus. Cull-low-PORE-tus. Colloportus. Cull-low-PORE-tus!" ...yeah, it sounded like the older students. And now came the performing part. She had to do it at her first try, the rude boy did so. She wiped her forehead (was it hot here?) and cleared her throat. Then, she imagined the lock locking as she did the wand movement and said "Colloportus."

...

????!!!!! NOTHING HAPPENED???????

She pulled the cabinet and it opened with ease. WHAT?! She flushed and looked around. Had the boy seen it? She hoped not. He had BETTER be busy with her own stuff! She was STILL better than him. She was better than any first year here, and she bet she was even better than some second years. That's right! So she went through the steps, took a deeeeeeep calming breath, repeated her mantra ("My name is Moss, rhymes with success,") under her breath, and tried this again.

"Colloportus."

Well... remember her alohomora? Yeah, it was the reserve this time. She tried it and it didn't... look so secure, so she quickly added a second "Colloportus!" QUICKLY before the boy could see it. Yeah, THAT'S better.

Most importantly, would the professor know that it took her one failed and 2 half-successful spells to lock it!?

Honestly, Carl would not have succeeded in the locking charm if Hady had not encouraged him. He might have given up and waited lamely for the end of the lesson, but he did not lose courage thanks to the older girl.

He nodded back and said, "Nice to meet you too, Hady. And yeah, I will ask you for help if I am lost." Which made him wonder ... what could be in the next room? Possibly tests that required the use of harder charms. Carl would definitely need assistance then.

But now, his task was to unlock the box. With more confidence than his previous attempts at the unlocking charm, Carl aimed his wand at the box and inhaled, preparing to say the incantation, when he changed his mind. Maybe it would be better to put his box down on the ground like Hady did, so that he had a better aim. Kneeling down, he did so and pointed his wand at the lock again. "Alohomora!" He said clearly and firmly.

With another clicking sound, the box unlocked itself. The First Year glanced excitedly at the Slytherin before opening it up.

curly haired prefect - "sometimes I get angry!" - 30/90 - *chicken emoji* - probably @ Disney - I speak dog

HER FIRST CLASS! Her first CHARMS class! Scarlett could barely contain her excitement. She was practically bouncing off the walls. But she was in for a surprise when she found that they were jumping RIGHT into things - literally, right into the magic.

Scarlett read the instructions over and over again, blinking as she tried to process it all. She had barely waved her wand and now she had to do MAGIC already?! She was getting nervous now. What if she failed?! She'd be stuck here, unable to go on and learn!

But she had to at least TRY of course. Biting her lip, she took a deep breath and focused on the lock that was her first task. The cabinet in front of her seemed very daunting, but she kept reminding herself that the Unlocking Charm was simple. Very basic beginners stuff. She'd read about it a hundred times in her dad's shop. All she had to do was FOCUS. And if she didn't get it the first time - well she'd just try again, wouldn't she?

Taking out her wand and focusing on her cabinet's lock, she took a deep breath and muttered "Alohomora!" while pointing her wand at the lock. It jiggled a little, but didn't unlock. That was better than she had hoped for, honestly. With newfound confidence, she pointed her wand at the lock again with more determination and cried "Alohomora!" and to her surprise (and thrill!) the lock POPPED right off.

"YES!" she exclaimed with a fist bump to the air. She'd done it! She could totally do this. Might take her a few tries, but she could do it for sure.

Once the door was open, Chloe took a second to double check that nothing crazy was locked inside the cabinet (this was Hogwarts after all) and once she felt safe she stepped inside. She grabbed the little box and tucked it under her arm.

The blonde did not doddle in the box (again, this was Hogwarts and she didn't trust anything that could be inside). She scurried out, drew her wand and pointed it at the cabinet, "Colloportus!" The door locked with a loud click.

She moved over to the floor and sat down there. No desks made OPENING the box difficult (again, UGH Hogwarts). She crossed her legs under herself and gazed down at the box. Her wand gestured down to the box, "Alohamora!"

CLICK!

Haddie nodded and stepped over to Rachel's cabinet, the one next to her own. It was working. It had stayed locked for Rachel. Haddie had seen it. She raised her wand and aimed it, giving the delicate movement. "Alohomora!" Click.

The door opened with ease when she checked it. Closing it again, she lifted her wand, imagined the lock locking and staying locked. "Colloportus!" It clicked. Haddie confirmed it was locked, and waited. After a few minutes of it staying locked, she let out a sigh of relief. And then shrugged, turning to the Slytherin girl that helped her. "I guess it was the cabinet. Thank you. I'm Haddie. First year. Ravenclaw. by the way."

Haddie held her box out in front of her. Aimed her wand. Rachel's cabinet clicked again. Telltale sign it unlocked itself. Nope. Didn't hear it. Heard nothing. No click at all.

"Alohomora." The box clicked this time. Still ignoring the fact Rachel's cabinet also unlocked itself, Haddie opened the box, and looked inside.

Well... as she looked around, she saw that most of the people were moving on (including the boy) and there still was no professor in sight - could she hope that he wouldn't see? - so she hurried to unlock the box.

Now, she had already tried simplest transfiguration and charms spells, and she had already opened the cabinet with the very same 'Alohomora' spell, so she went through the initial steps of visualisation, wand movement and pronunciation faster. She did examine the box though (as everything intrigued her) and drew a reverse S at last while saying "Alohomora."

CLICK!

Cue a very happy girl.

"Give it a bit of a flick and concentrate on the lock opening, then add the pronunciation." With a careful flick of her wrist, she demonstrated on her small box that she'd already removed from cabinet, "Alohomora!" And watched as the box clicked unlock ... again.
Sam took that nod as having got the incantation somewhere close, and looked down at her grip on her wand. At the moment, it only made her nervous. Nervous about breaking the first brand new thing she could ever remember having; nervous about the damage it could wreak after all those sparks have come out of it in Ollivander's. Silly things really, given she'd seen plenty of people use magic, including ones that probably should never have been handed a wand.

She just needed a little more confidence in herself.

She took a breath, at the same time loosening her grip on her wand - enough to be comfortable, but no so much she risked throwing it across the room. She practiced the flick Tia showed her first, before pointing it towards the cabinet. "Alohomora!"

Nothing happened. What was she missing? She had the wrist, the pronounciation (is), oh...and Tia had said to concentrate on the lock opening!

She pursed her lips slightly as she concentrated, viewing the lock's mechanism in her mind. She hadn't actually looked closely enough to see what type of system it had, but she'd picked enough locks in her time to have a good idea. And then she imagined it undoing, as if turned with an invisible key. Her invisible key; her wand and her magic.

"Alohomora!" she said again, this time with more determination in her voice.

Bella moved out of the way of the cabinets so she could open up the box she retrieved from it. She was once again excited about opening the box and finding out what her number was, so she could move on. She just had to do the unlocking spell one more time... well however many tires it took her this time to open it.

She bent down and placed the box on the floor, before pointing her wand yet again. “Alohomora!”

Nothing.

If she had gotten it to work on her first attempt this time around she would have been very impressed with herself, but that wasn’t the case. She just had to remember how she got it to work the last time.

“Alohomora!”

CLICK!

YES! She did it in half the attempts it took her to unlock the cabinet. Bella grinned even bigger as she reached into the box for her number code.

Olivia supposed it certainly would work for the rest of the spellwork she had to do for the class. “I’ll do that,” she remarked to Rachel before her fellow firstie took her leave of her to continue on. Looking at the list of stuff, she debated doing it in order or not. On a rush from her first success with the unlocking spell, the Ravenclaw decided to test her luck out with the same spell on the box at first. She’d return to the cabinet with the other spell soon enough.

She gathered up the focus and intent she had used previously to prepare herself again. When she felt satisfied, Olivia raised her wand once more. “Alohomora!” Another light…another click. It seemed she was getting the hang of that spell at least. That was a positive note for the class. Made her feel life she could do better and learn some more over the course of the term.

Speaking of which…

The Ravenclaw flipped the page to the other spell, the opposite spell. Colloportus. The girl reading up all about it. One locked cabinet coming up…if she could help it. “Colloportus,” she tried first, “Colloportus…cull-low-PORE-tus…colloportus,” she repeated, adding the wand movement towards the door she had closed. By the third time, Olivia heard a weird squishy noise and she reached up for the handle curiously. Trying to pull, she had no luck and she smiled excitedly.

One locked door and one open box for her.

The box was unlocked, but Daxton was not seeing any numbers. He blinked, brow furrowed ever so slightly in confusion, and looked around as students started making for the next door. Had the Traulton girl got the spell wrong? Doubtful, as she was one of the ones to make it through the door. Maybe the professor had put a duff box in the cabinet Daxton had breached. That was possible, but unlikely.

Was it because he had not accomplished the task through legitimate means? That was probably it, seeing as those who had made it through had completed the task 'correctly', but if that was true, it was stupid. There was no reason his box should not have revealed the number to him, unless there was some sort of clever magic that meant it 'knew' he had cheated to get it, and not completed all the steps. Alternatively, the professor was watching (Daxton had no doubt that was true in any case) and controlling which boxes did what, which would also be a clever display of magic. It made him curious as to exactly what the system was here.

Regardless, Daxton was not going through that door. Not that he cared; they needed to say the numbers to get through, and on the other side was likely another unknown task, and it was a complete unknown as to whether he would be able to use initiative to get through it, or steal another spell. More significant than that, he outright did not know what he would be walking into, and he was not stupid enough to do so when likely not equipped with the skills to deal with it. No, Daxton knew to quit while he was ahead, so he dropped the little box into the pocket of his rooms and made for the door. If there had been little point being here in the first place, there was now no point at all milling around in here waiting for class to end.

"Alo-HO-Mora," Altha mimicked, trying her best to hide her snarled expression. For a moment it had annoyed her that she had to have help, but she quickly forced herself to hide that fact. The professor wasn't even there, she shouldn't hide the fact that she didn't know what she was doing.

Mimicking the wand movements she'd seen around her, and with all her concentration on the lock, she carefully pronounced, "Alohomora!" briskly and calmly, and just as Echo had told her to do so.

Click!

A satisfied grin crept across her face, and she turned to Echo. "Thanks, Echo. I'm Altha." she said, now feeling very pleased with herself. Even a hint of appreciation stirred inside Altha, and she tried to smile the best she could.
Echo smirked at the girl, she knew she was in Slytherin and was glad to see that she wanted her help. Smiling even more Echo listened to her practice to spell and also watched her give it a try. and of course with her awesome teaching skills. "see there you go" she said proudly while flicking her hair over her shoulder.

"nice to meet you Altha, im Echo.... fourth year." she was pretty sure she was a first year. "okay so the next thing we need to do is to unlock this box that has our combinations in it. im pretty sure you don't know what the wand movement is? but I can show you that, but how do you think the incantation is said?" she just wasn't going to give the girl the answers, but this was defiantly helping her right?

A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.

Looking down at the small box in his left hand, Yoongi sat down on the ground and placed the box in front of him. The next step was to unlock the box and get the number code from inside it right? He looked at the directions on the board for a moment and read the whole thing again in case he had forgotten a step.

That not being the case, the Gryffindor pointed his wand at the box and waved it, non-verbally casting the ‘Alohomora’ spell. It was so much more fun to cast spells non-verbally and he silently thanked the duelling club for the practises. He watched as the box opened up and he looked inside. Now, what were his numbers?

Kay beamed at the praise she received from Norah when she managed to unlock the cabinet. She return the high five and said "Thank you so much for your help!" Then she pulled out the tiny box from inside it. She glanced backed at the instructions.

'Ok so I need to lock it back up.' So following the advice that Norah gave her. She practice the wand movements a couple of times, and then practice saying the spell, "Colloportus!" a few times before she felt confidant to try it on the door. She closed the cabinet door before pointing her wand at the door and said "Colloportus!" She gave a tiny cheer when she heard the click. She tested the door and sure enough it was locked! She performed the spell correctly on her first try. She beamed, incredibly proud of herself before bringing her attention to the small box. She aimed her wand at the box for calling out "Alohomora!" It unlocked with no problem. She opened up the box and looked inside to see.....
