Near the hidden entrance to the prefect bathroom on the fifth floor stands a statue of a lost-looking wizard with his gloves on the wrong hands. This is Boris the Bewildered, a good meeting spot on this largely empty and musty-smelling floor.

Floating out of the wall near the statue of Boris the Bewildered, the Grey Lady stopped to hover in the air in front of the wonderous statued man. Helena had never quite understood why Boris wore his gloves on the wrong hands. It was a breach of ettiquette. Couldn't everyone see that? It was not right.
And why did it always smell peculiar on this floor?

Why DID the fifth floor smell so musty? Davie knew there was a prefect's bathroom on this floor, so what he didn't understand was why the bubble-bath scent of their bathroom couldn't permeate this entire floor? Lost in thoughts as he walked through the hall, he ALMOST passed through the Grey Lady. But he didn't. He caught himself just in time, and executed a little swerve toward the nearby statue, as though he had fully intended to detour there and give it a good look all along.
Ahem.
"Hello, Ms. Ravenclaw," he greeted her kindly. "How are you? How was your summer in the castle?" The ghosts stayed here during break, didn't they? He hadn't seen any when he was a kid and had visited his mum, but he also knew they couldn't just LEAVE their haunting spot. Maybe they had ghost parties and did ghost things while no students were here. Maybe Ms. Ravenclaw had ghostly tales to tell him. Maybe.

Helena was trying to pin point what caused the smell and where the musty smell came from when young David Truebridge almost walked straight through her. Luckily for him though he manage to swerve to the side just in the neck of time. Keeping himself from the unpleasant experience of an ice cold shower.
Smiling faintly Helena greeted "Hello young David," floating a few meters away from the statue she responded "I'm good, had a pleasant summer in the castle. I read some nice transfiguration texts. How was your summer David? Is your mother still as into fashion as she was when she was here at Hogwarts?"
Floating closer to David she asked curiously. "Do you have a lady friend that you really like?" If he did maybe he could help Helena understand Sir Nicholas actions.

Seemed like the Grey Lady was in a good mood, which was wonderful. David enjoyed talking to her the most when she was like this, and he beamed as she said she had read some books. "Sounds nice!" he responded, on the verge of asking 'but how did you turn the pages' when the conversation suddenly swung back toward his mother.
David's brow creased slightly, but he answered his House Ghost nonetheless. "Yes ma'am. She has a lot more time to buy stuff she doesn't need now." Uhhhh well, that had come out awfully truthful. He covered up by adding, "And she's been busy writing a book. Maybe you can read it, when it comes out soon!" IF she had a way to turn the pages. David still wanted to know about that.
His mind still attached to that question, he was a bit surprised when the Grey Lady floated closer and suddenly asked him about his friends. "Huh?" Since when did the House ghosts ask about their interpersonal relationships?? "Yeah, I mean, I doooooo, I have LOTs of lady-- well, girls who are my friends." He didn't think they were LADIES though, really. They weren't OLD. "Char Kettleburn is my best friend! She's a Gryffindor and so is Genny Tate and so is Ava Burton but they're ALL my friends." Even though they were Gryffindors.
He figured the Grey Lady probably understood what it was like to be friends with Gryffindors though. She was friends with Nearly Headless Nick, wasn't she!

Laughing warmly Helena leaned forward to confide in David. "We women are very fond of our clothes. I had quite an extensive shoe and dress collection when I was alive you know? I miss it sometimes." Shaking away the sad though Helena promised "I'll of course read your mother's book when it comes to Hogwarts! I'm sure Mr Kitridge will have plenty of copies."
Smiling faintly she commented. "It's good that you have so many friends David. Sir Nicholas is my friend and well then there is the Bloody Baron too but he is not a friend per see." Too much hurtful memories. They probably never could be friends. That was the Baron's fault.
"How do you keep being friends with someone?" David had to know didn't he? He had lots of lady friends.

Whoa, this was a side of the Grey Lady Davie hadn't heard of before! He supposed it made sense though. In her day, she was probably a--- a---- what was the phrase? A regulation hottie! Egh, no, that was an awful phrase for her. She was probably more of the HEAD BABE type, the kind that got stufyf old blokes like the Bloody Baron to fall in love with her.
But considering that women's fashions were not his forte, the second-year calmly nodded to that topic. "Good!" He was instead pleased she would be reading his mum's book. "She worked on it with Mr. Scabior! I'm sure you remember him, Kyroh's dad?" Prolly. The Grey Lady was SUPER old, so surely she knew all the old old old old parent-like people his mum associated with and had worked with at this very school.
Anyway. He smiled once more as the Grey Lady mentioned her friend Sir Nick (SEE!) and her... well, frenemy? the Bloody Baron. "Oh that's easy," he answered her latest question. "You hang out with them a lot, and do fun activities together that you both enjoy, like exploring or climbing trees or eating ice cream, and you tell each other your secrets, but not any that would hurt the other person's feelings, and you just... you have each other's backs! Like if someone were bullying Char or being mean to her little brother Callum, I'd have to intervene and back her up, because I'm Char's BFF." Yep! That was pretty much how friendship worked. Why did the Grey Lady want to know? Was she one of those Ravenclaws who could only be friends with books??!! OR....
The second year gasped as he was struck by another idea. "You're not testing me to see if the Sorting Hat made a mistake with me, are you? I SWEAR I'm not a Hufflepuff. I have friends, but I love books too! Please, Ms. Ravenclaw, I promise I'm in the right house!" He nearly reached out to tug on her dress for emphasis, but the sudden cold shock of his hand brushing her outfit made him stop.

Making his way from the Gryffindor common room with the intended destination of the library, Sir Nicholas appeared quite suddenly through one of the walls.
"Lady Helena," he greeted, his bow uncharacteristically delayed and eyes wide at her unexpected presence in this part of the castle. "I was not...oh, Sir Truebridge. Pardon my intrusion, but may I have your permission to ask the Lady Helena about a rather pressing matter? It shan't take long."

Smiling faintly Helena affirmed. "Yes I remember, Mr Scabior he used to teach History of Magic here at Hogwarts. His lessons were always well liked." Kyroh on the other hand the lady hadn't quite gotten the grasp of, he seemed to not like her.
David was a great resource. He had so many suggestions. Many of them she did not fully comprehend though. Like the need to intervene on someone else's behalf? Helena would have sought out a prefect to handle it. She was not one for confrontations. "Thanks for the advice David. I shall try it out. We ghosts though can't experience the same fun activities as you can with your lady friend Char. It's not possible for us."
Before Helena could say or ask anything young David pulled an idea out of the air that made her just stare at him before she retorted upset. "I'm not testing you David. You are as much a Ravenclaw as I am. That you'd even ask me that is unthinkable.. You are in the right house. With your thirst for knowledge and endless trail of questions you belong in the eagle house nowhere else."
Floating away from him Helena mumbled her voice suddenly full of tears. "I just asked cause even I can have friend troubles."

Upset by David's suggestion Helena floated backwards and away from the young eagle fiddling with the hem of her dress. Then of course the object of her thoughts had to arrive. Sir Nicholas. Distraught she mumbled "Sir Nicholas...." forgetting to curtsy like she used to towards him Helena averted her gaze and didn't say anything else. Sir Nick was talking to David.

Yes, THAT Scabior! He was cool. All the Scabiors were pretty cool to Davie (especially Kyroh). But oh no, he'd gone and upset the Grey Lady again! She was just so--- so SENSITIVE SOMETIMES!
"I'm sorry!" he apologized hastily, shuffling after her as she started to float away. "I'm sorry, Ms. Ravenclaw! I UNDERSTAND FRIEND TROUBL--- oh, hey Sir Nicholas." David cleared his throat and stopped in his tracks, lowering his voice respectfully. Had to be respectful of the ghosts. Also, if Sir Nick was Ms. Ravenclaw's friend, then he would be able to cheer her up better than David ever could. He was always saying the wrong thing around her for some reason. And he LIKED being a Ravenclaw, for her information. Sniff.
He looked up at Sir Nick and gave him a serious nod of approval. "Yes, sir, of course. I'll just... wait over here." David gestured toward the statue of Boris, not at all bothered to loiter and listen. He owed his House Ghost a better explanation of why he'd asked about Hufflepuff, anyway, and both the ghosts looked more somber than usual for some reason.

"Thank you, Sir Truebridge," the ghost bowed in quiet appreciation to the second year's yielding nature at this delicate time.
Clearing his throat, Sir Nicholas risked floating a little closer to the Lady Helena and offered yet another bow before addressing her. "Milady," he dreamily sighed, one had placed politely on the small of his back. "I was wondering if you would do me the honour of accompanying me on a glide around the seventh floor corridor tomorrow in the late afternoon?"
It was a very fortunate thing that ghosts were incapable of blushing.

David's words made Helena halt and slowly turn towards him again. Wiping the tears from her eyes she inclined her head and murmured softly. "Apology accepted David." Fiddling with the hem of her dress she asked a hint of curiosity in her voice. "Why do you fear that someone will come one day and say that you were sorted into the wrong house and that you have no place in Ravenclaw?" David was in her opinion one of few eagles currently attending the school that actually embodied what her mother had cherished in Ravenclaw students. The majority of students at Hogwarts had a traits from more than one house.

As David retreated to a corner Helena rested her grey eyes on Sir Nicholas as he floated closer to her and asked her to join him on a glide around the seventh floor corridor the following day. Curtsying elegantly Helena said softly. "Sir Nicholas," pausing just a moment to pull out her fan to not sound too eager she said politely. "Yes, I would like to accompany you on a glide through the seventh floor corridor tomorrow afternoon. Have you found a new passage somewhere?"
Helena wanted to ask Sir Nicholas things. But now was not the right time.

Oh, wait, the Grey Lady wasn't mad at him forever? She accepted his apology again?! Davie peeked up hopefully from behind the statue, just in time to hear the Grey Lady agree to accompany Sir Nicholas on a glide around the seventh floor... teehehe. They were gonna go gliding together, up on the seventh floor... hehehehehee...
He straightened up and hid his smile as the Grey Lady floated back to him. "Um, oh, you see, some of my friends think they were Sorted into the wrong house by the Sorting Hat. I always thought that the Sorting Hat didn't make mistakes like that, but then somebody said I was such a Hufflepuff... so I dunno. I get worried sometimes." He shrugged. "I really like Ravenclaw and I think I'm the first Ravenclaw in my family. I would like to stay here if possible." He just loved learning! And Kitridge and Tanner were great leaders of his House (well, last term they were, anyway). PLUS the Eagles were TOTALLY going to win the Superbowl House Points race this term. Davie didn't want all his brilliance to go to waste in the house of Puffers, no offense to them!

Forgetting to breathe for a moment (although, as a ghost he really did not need to do so anyway), a smile spread across Sir Nicholas' face as she accepted his proposal. "Something to that effect," he replied with a gracious bow. "I shall leave you to your conversation with Sir Truebridge."
The Gryffindor house ghosts looked towards the Ravenclaw in question and showed his appreciation with another bow.
"I look forward to our glide, milady," he said before departing by means of disappearing through the nearest wall.
