Date, place and time: Sunday, December 5th, library, 7pm after dinner.
Entering through the doors of the library you are met with a dark and chilly room. The only light sources are lit torches and firefly lamps that light the path forward for you as you head inside between the aisles upon aisles of uncountable book cases. You've only walked a few meters when a drum starts to pick up an eerie tune accompanied by the muffled screams of a creature, could it be a banshee perhaps?
As you walk on towards the meeting spot for the book club meeting with Mr Kitridge you pass a big wax doll depicting a vampire dripping blood onto the floor, and is that over there in the firefly light a ghoul in all its slimy and ugly glory? If you dare to step close and touch him as he makes small gurgling noises you'll see that he too is made of wax and not harmful but still creepy.
After a few minute's walk you arrive at the meeting spot near the back of the library close to the stained glass windows section to find a big half circle of comfy bean bags with giant snowy footprints lining the floor in the middle of the circle. Mr Kitridge can be found sitting on one of the bean bags, wearing green robes for the evening with lots of splashes of pink. He is currently reading a book with no visible title.
OOC: Welcome to this terms book club meeting. Feel free to have your character react to the sounds and sights along the lit path as they make their way to the meeting spot and take a seat on one of the bean bags. Everything they see and hear are clues to the meetings theme but if you figure it out please keep it to yourself for now. I will start the book meeting approximately 24 hours from now.

Woot! Nearly everyone had been correct on their answer of Gilderoy Lockhart. With all the given clues leading them up to the meeting place it really hadn't been all to heard to make the proper guess. However she gave a small smile, folding her hands in her lap.
As Leo spoke a little bit about the days meeting she remained quiet her eyes shifting towards Professor Myers when his name was mentioned. Hady knew that he played the banjo and snag about so she was excited to hear that they would be getting a little treat today such as this one. Sitting up a little taller her full attention turned to the plant man as she waited for him to begun.
His little song was really rather funny and she found herself almost laughing out loud several times. Namely the part that went 'oh oh, Gildy’s such a wonderful snag--
If only I could catch him, but I’m just a haaaaag'. Now that was great! It was so catchy really that she wouldn't be surprised to find herself singing it later on.
"Great song Professor," she praised laughing quietly while also clapping a little. Not to loudly at all for they were still in a library.

Everyone except her had guessed Lockhart correctly, and now that she thought about it Kitty realized that it made sense. Newt Scamander didn't have an entry on vampires in Fantastical Beasts And Where To Find Them since vampires were beings, not beasts. Oh well. Kitty didn't mind being wrong - at least now maybe they would get to talk about vampires, her absolute favorite creature.
Professor Myers played the banjo? And he was going to sing? Seriously, whoever knew teachers could be so awesome? Kitty watched him sing and listened to the song with admiration. It was a very funny and enjoyable experience, except for one part. When he sang "but I'm just a haaaaag" a bizarre image of Professor Black chasing Lockhart popped into her mind. Okay, that was scary.
"Great song Professor!" said Kitty clapping with everyone else when he was finished. "You're very talented."

Wow, her colleague could sing! Tiara applauded enthusiastically: partially because she was impressed, and partially because she wanted to cut through the creepy aura of Leobald's decor choices. "Bravo!" she laughed. It had been quite amusing, after all.
THE MEETING WAS ABOUT GILDEROY LOCKHART!!!!!!! Yessssssssssssssss. Davie remembered where he was when Kitridge reminded him not to fall off his bean bag, and with a slight grin, the second year scooted back up the squishy bag. "Are we going to be reading any of his works, sir?" he asked eagerly, because he just HAD to squeeze in ONE question before Myers would start his music.
A song about Lockhart. YAY. Davie turned his blue eyes to Myers, still grinning a bit. He was personally hoping this would be a parody song, because Lockhart seemed like an easy guy to parody. He'd made up ALL his books! His real story of buffoonery was better even than his made-up ones!
You could count on David to chime in a question before Paul had a chance to start singing. It didn't matter. It was a good question after all and something Leo figured everyone wanted to know too. Gazing over at David he nodded. "Yes, you'll get to read his works later after Professor Myers has sung his song." And he had a chance to explain who Lockhart was.
SPOILER!!: Professor Paul

"It's actually from the time of Lockhart...so it's very curious--well--you'll see-"
And he began to strum his banjo. Paul could not sing very well. He merely got by. He wouldn't like, break glass or anything, but he was just...an average singer you know?
But anyways. Paul began to sing as well. "A charming smile and bright blonde hair,
Gilderoy Lockhart, wizard extraordinaire!
Oh oh, his smile is the most delightful thiiiiiiing
OH OH--his teeth would put a vampire’s to shaa-aaaaame
oh oh, Gildy’s such a wonderful snag--
If only I could catch him, but I’m just a haaaaag
He’s got that winning smile!
he’s got that golden hair!
He’s got my heart with a key
That’ll never disappear!
He’s got those sky blue eyes!
He’s got a champion’s stare,
He’s got my heart with a key
That’ll never disappear!
Oh oh, he’s battled many wicked trolls
OH OH, he’s the bravest, most gallant soul!
Oh oh, all you yetis better beware,
Lockhart is here to grab you by the haaaaair--
He’s got that winning smile!
He’s got that golden hair!
He’s got my heart with a key
that’ll never disappear
He’s got those sky blue eyes
He’s got a champion’s stare
He’s got my heart with a key
That’ll never disappear
Oh oh oh oh MY HEART WITH A KEY
MY HEAAAAAART WITH A KEEEEEY
that won’t DISAAAAAAAPPEAR!"
....and he was done his ballad. Hopefully they thought it was as funny as he did. He had laughed a couple times during singing. "It's called...Lockhart Has My Heart!"
During the song Leo leaned back against his bean bag and listened attentively. There more Paul sang the more he grinned. It was a very Lockhart song. It fitted the man like how he had been perfectly. Leo noted that Carl Leonard of the badgers and that his dear colleague Tiara had slipped into the meeting before or under Paul's performance.
When the song finished Leo clapped happily being at his best buddy. "Magnificent performance Professor Myers! Absolutely splendid!" He'd ask Paul to sing more often but it was not the right time for that.
Instead he brought forth his giant stack of several copies of each of Gilderoy Lockharts books and placed them at his feet. "Gilderoy Lockhart was a wizard that taught DADA here at Hogwarts for a year during the famous trio's time. He was also known for his perfect smile, coiffed hair and his stand out robe colours and his expert skill in memory charms aside from being a published writer. Currently Gilderoy Lockhart resides in the Janus Thickey ward at St Mungos for permanent spell damage. Does anyone know how or more so what Lockhart did to become a permanent spell damage patient at St Mungos?" Leo was trying to see if they had read or talked about him in Charms or HoM class. A strong backfiring memory spell wasn't always something that could be reversed. Safety and practice was key!
Pulling out his wand Leo moved the big stack of Lockhart's works into the middle of the circle of bean bags for easy student access if they wanted to browse. "We can't read and talk about all of Lockharts works in depth at this meeting unfortunately. There sadly isn't enough time to do so. All the books will though be available for you to borrow and read in your dormitories after the meeting is over."
Grabbing the book titled 'A guide to household pests' Leo held it up so all the students could see it as he asked. "Have any of your parents used Lockhart's guide when dealing with pests around your house? Is it useful?"

Lockhart has his heart... HAHA! David LOVED IT. He clapped as enthusiastically as the most enthusiastic person there or maybe he WAS the most enthusiastic, who could tell. Then he turned his bright eyes back to Mr. Kitridge. It was reading time now, yes? YES? OR WAS IT LOCKHART TRIVIA TIME FIRST?!!
Davie's hand shot into the air. "He had a big memory charm backfire on him," Davie offered eagerly. "He was trying to steal Harry Potter's glory for finding the Chamber of Secrets by mind-wiping him. But like the silly idi--- professor he was, he was using Ron Weasley's broken wand. So the whole thing backfired, and Gilderoy actually ended up with the memory loss!"
Poor bloke, but he kinda deserved his time in St. Mungo's. The punishment fit the crime in David's mind. He ALSO raised his hand at the professor's second question, but didn't say much about it. He KNEW his mum had the book, but he didn't actually know if she had used it before? Wasn't that a house elf's job???

Rachel joined the others in clapping for Professor Myers. "I think that was excellent writing, Professor but even better singing.'' She didn't agree with all of the lyrics given her opinion and thoughts about Lockhart but it was crystal clear to see Myers was a brilliant writer as he was at Herbology.
She turned her focus back to Mr Kitridge. Lovely! Rachel was happy that she would have the opportunity to read the books which she was sure would be rather enlightening. Oh, a question! She knew the answer to this one but David had beaten her to it. Not that she minded. He was quite brilliant. As her gaze switched to him, she realised her cheeks were feeling heated. For the love of the Disney Princesses! Not here! Rachel bit her lip, relieved that Haddie hadn't attended the meeting. She would know instantly why her cheeks had gone pink.
Rachel cleared her throat. "I agree with what David said,'' she said, her cheeks still pink. "In regards to your second question, Mr Kitridge, no. I've never seen my parents use that book.''

Carl turned his attention back to Mr Kitridge. He could not help but stare at the big stack of books being placed on the ground. Were they all Lockhart's? He must be an accomplished writer!
On second thought, maybe not. The First Year could tell from the way in which the person was referred to that he was not really liked in the Wizarding World. And he was suffering from permanent spell damage ... he did not know what that was but it seemed horrible. He did not want to be trapped in a ward for the rest of his life.
Carl shook his head for both of the questions asked. He was definitely going to borrow and read some of the books written by Lockhart - not the household pests one, but something else.
Bonnie clapped along with the others.
Having never heard of Lockhart, Bonnie had no idea as to why he would be an inpatient. She looked at the large collection of books: Travels with Trolls, Voyages with Vampires, Year with the Yeti.
Bonnie raised her hand "Professor, is Lockhart in St Mungo's because of dangers he faced on his travels?"
It seemed a reasonable guess, I mean the guy hung out with a yeti!

Truthfully, Scarlett knew about all of Lockhart's works. But she was pretty sure her parents didn't use them to deal with pests. Living above the shop didn't really leave much room for pests to sneak their way in - although she supposed that NOW, if they were going to be living in a nice country house, they might be facing some angry gnomes at some point.
So she remained quiet, because as of this point, no, she had no idea if her parents used that book and if they did, she had no idea if it was helpful or not...

"My mom might have used Lockhart's guide, but I don't think so" replied Kitty as she thought about her mom. "My mom hardly ever cleans because she's always out reporting about something, so she has servants do it for her. Maybe they use Lockhart's guide." Sometimes her mom cleaned, but those times were rare. Kitty knew her mom was terrified of pests, they were the only things she ever seemed scared of. She didn't even like Kitty's pet worms. Besides, their mansion was almost always sparkling clean.

Watching as stacks upon stacks of all of Lockharts writings appeared Hady knew instantly that she would be signing out a couple of them (if not all of them) at the end of the meeting. She may had read them once before but it had been some time ago so really reading them again couldn't hurt.
"My father said the man was not right in the head so he refused to even look at the guide," Hady supplied quietly with a small shrug of her shoulders. Her mother wouldn't have used it or even looked at it being muggle and all not that it mattered either way since the women no longer lived with them.

Leo had to admit that David Truebridge spelled it out perfectly but not exactly in the words that he would have used. You had to show some level respect even if you thought the man was off his rocker. It was a pity that most of the students appeared to have no experience with Lockhart's guide to household pests and knew if the tips actually worked. He'd have to ask James about it when he met him the following day for breakfast.
Giving the clock on his wrist a glance Leo cleared his throat and continued. "As David just said Gilderoy Lockhart ended up in St Mungos special ward for permanent spell damage because he tried to cast a memory charm on Harry Potter with a broken wand which caused the spell to backfire on himself. He lost all his memories as a result and sadly for him, his condition is permanent. Because of this I advice you all to take good care of your wands and to not use any wand yours or someone else's if it appears to be damaged." One word of caution for the day.
"Gilderoy Lockhart stole other peoples lived tales and tested tips and wrote his celebrated works around them after he successfully had wiped the people's memories. If you all put yourselves in the shoes of a writer like Lockhart or someone else desperate for fame and success to what length would you all be willing to go? Would you use memory charms on people or would your moral compass stop you?" Leo asked to get the discussion going. Time flied.
~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.
Wand care was certainly important. Rachel would definitely be keeping this word of caution of Mr Kitridge's in her mind at all times. As her Head of House went on to elaborate some more on Lockhart's work, she couldn't help but feel disgusted at the 'author'. How silly and idiotic he had been for fame.
Rachel raised her hand again. "I won't even think about doing such a thing, Mr Kitridge. It's unethical to steal someone's work and pass it off as your own. If I wanted fame, I would work to the best of my abilities to achieve it on my own.'' She didn't have a care in the world to be famous, anyway. No, this girl liked the quiet and being in the shadows.
"No way! I would never use memory charms on anyone just to became famous," Kitty responded truthfully, agreeing with Rachel. "Only a foul beast would seek fame by erasing someone's memory and leaving them not knowing who they are or remembering the people who love them."
And Kitty didn't care much for fame. In fact, she was very shy in front of large groups - and being famous meant attracting a lot of attention everywhere you go. She wanted to be liked and to have friends, but not for being famous - and not for being someone that she was not.

That was tragic. Having a memory charm backfire on himself. That was worse than somebody else casting it on him. Carl could not help but feel a bit sad for Lockhart. He was so going to listen to Mr Kitridge's advice and take good care of his wand.
He raised his hand for the first time in this meeting, for this was a question he could easily answer. "I don't think I would go to that extent, sir. I might like, interview more talented people for stories and quote what they said, but I would be honest in my work." He could not understand why Lockhart pretended he did all those heroic things when it was obvious he did not.
Wow that's rough, Bonnie couldn't imagine losing all her memories. Camping with her family, getting up to mischief with her older brother Ali. It just doesn't bear thinking about. It just shows how easily mistakes can be made when casting spells.
Bonnie raised her hand, she was in agreement with the others. "I could never do that to someone. The thought of losing my memories is just to horrible I'd never put anyone through that."

Hady shifted a little on the spot when asked by Leo whether or not they would use memory charms or the like on someone else to gain fame and fortune for themselves. Just the thought of it annoyed her and made her nose wrinkle in frustration.
"Absolutely not. Sometimes a memory is all someone might have left of something and to take that for my own personal benefit just isn't right. It's sickening honestly," Hadleigh replied with a shake of her head. She couldn't imagine losing her memories to anyone else for whatever the reason.
