Barnabus the Barmy
|
Arista~~ It was always amusing to study the Barnabus the Barmy tapestry whenever he walked past it going to the Gryffindor Common Room. Sometimes he would just stand still and watch the trolls attempting to do ballet and ...he sometimes tried a turn or two when he was sure that no one was looking. Which was the case now, the Head Boy did a kind of pirouette which failed dramatically, he tripped over his own feet but was still able to hold himself upright by grabbing the tapestry. Oops. Good thing that no one saw that....right? RIGHT?! It wasn't like he was in to dancing or something he just ...felt like it every now and then. |
Quote:
As she walking to the Fat Lady she saw The Head Boy about to call out a hello she watched as he attempted a pirouette. "Dang you almost had it! Try again, practice makes perfect." She said in the moment even forgetting to say hello. |

Katherine was clearly excited. With every word he spoke, her smile got bigger and in the end, she said "Exactly! Finally, someone that appreciates that book. It should be the prerequisite for attending here." For sure - a book of such a size must be the prerequisite for everyone. Mhm. "I read it two times." And she still had to read for another two at least... Ahem. Katherine didn't know why, but she held her breath as he thought. WHERE would he want to see? WHERE was special for him? WHICH adventures had he - wait, he had a detention??????!!!!! :gasp: She believed him about its not being his fault, though. Someone who read Hogwarts, A History could not cause trouble on their own. No, he was one of the people she could trust 100%, so she had decided. Barnabas the Barmy though, she knew that place! "Let's go, then!" she said as she followed him. And... well, it was only a few metres anyway, so before she could ask anything else, they were there. She looked at the portrait with that posture of well-known critics: arms supporting her head as her index finger tapped her chin. She didn't want to laugh, she really didn't... but... "Hehehehe!" Ahem, yes, he was listening to the story he was about to tell. |
Quote:
So that was a short trip, and now that they were here, David also chuckled at the tapestry. He was pretty used to silly, ugly Barney the Barmy, but he wasn't the REAL reason they were here. Davie turned so his back was to the tapestry and he was looking across the corridor a blank stretch of wall. He gestured for Katherine to do the same. "You've probably figured out why we're here, and it's not for Barnabus. Right across from us is the Come and Go Room, or the Room of Requirement, which changes to suit the needs of whoever requires it. This is also where I had a detention last term." He nodded seriously, then took a breath, because he could tell that little bit of explanation wasn't going to cut it with Miss Moss. "Last year, I found this cool green quill on the grounds, and I carried it around with me for most of the year. Finders keepers, right? Well it turned out that the quill actually belonged to a classmate of mine, Blaise Bellaire, and Blaise wanted it back REALLY badly. I don't give up easily, so we got into a... a bit of a tussle over it in the Great Hall one lunchtime." Sigh. "Long story short, Professor Flamsteed made us spend a whole twenty-four HOURS handcuffed to each other, and since Blaise is a Gryffindor and I'm a Ravenclaw, and we can't go into each others' Common Rooms, we had to sleep in the Room of Requirement. It made up these cool little beds for us that were spaced just right so our handcuffs wouldn't cut off our wrists or anything. Oh and ALSO while we were handcuffed, we had to go on a field trip to the Royal Observatory still handcuffed to each other, and we only got the cuffs off after the trip and after we said nice things about each other in front of Flamsteed." And while that had been fun and all, it had also been awkward at first. "After all that," he smiled at Katherine, to see if she was still listening, "I made friends with Blaise, and he turned out to be pretty smart and a good writer, and now the Room of Requirement represents both a detention AND a reward, you could say, because it's always a good day when you can make a new friend." The end! Did she want to go check it out now after that kinda-cheesy but 100% true story? |
They were clearly soul mates. And not in the icky, disgusting romantic way, even. No, sir! Their 'soul mates' satus was much more noble - they shared the same passion, the same idea. She imagined herself as the future Minister for Magic for a moment, and he'd become the headmaster like his mother and together, they would make Hogwarts the real best again. She smiled to herself. While politics could be dirty at times, she firmly believed that those who worked hard could do whatever they wanted. They were both clever, and they certainly could do it. Thank you, David Truebridge, for strengthening her dedication to become big! Oh, hold on, was she supposed to look at the other wall? She followed him, and watched the empty wall as she listened carefully. Room of Requirement, of course! This room was one of the most important in Hogwarts - the most important after each classroom and library, if she'd say so. Having a detention in there was rather odd, but she didn't interrupt and let him tell his story with occasional "Mhmm, yes, okay," to show she listened. ...finders keepers, for sure! She nodded vigorously. Oh, Blaise!!! She knew him! Even though... she didn't approve of him so much anymore, but that was another story. In fact, if David liked him so much, she could give him a second chance. She knew Blaise wasn't a bad person, anyway. She just... didn't want to be associated with a troublemaker. Ugh, making the right friend was so hard! David was done soon enough, and she clapped briefly and cheerfully. "Thank you for sharing it with me." She eyed the wall again. "I met Blaise on the platform, actually. He did look like a great person." Except... the feast, of course, but she was too polite to talk badly about his friend now. "Can we check inside, or do we have lots of places to go to?" It was up to him, basically. Though she did want to see inside. |
Austin! Ever since her History of Magic lesson, Azura had been curious about the portraits that hung on the wall in the castle. She had been walking up to random one and actually asking them questions.. But did the same thing go for tapestries? She honestly wasn't sure! She sighed a little as she looked up at it and smiled.."Any of you have any advice for how to stop missing someone?" She asked softly, as she pulled her black hair over her shoulder and looked around, before leaning on the wall. She missed Jasper, Jace, Garreth, Austin even! Things had seemed to lonely for her lately! Maybe it was because things were growing colder.. everything felt lonely when it was cold outside. |
*CRASHes* Quote:
Quote:
With no hesitation, the Gryffindor ran towards them with a wide grin and her two messy pigtails flying behind her. "Hi!" Why were they standing here?? Having a conversation with no food and worse-- close to an ugly painting. "Hi." To the stranger girl who must've been in Genny's classes because her face was familiar. |
Quote:
He had left his messenger bag on his bed, and instead, opted for his typical 'scruffy uniform' look. Although every fifth year boy seemed to sport the same look. He didn't mind too much that he looked typical. There was no need to stand out and bring attention to himself. The Ravenclaw was going to make friends his own way, without them laughing at him. As Austin left the portrait, and headed down the hallway, he found a familiar pair of purple eyes. Or what he thought were purple eyes. It was hard to tell under the mess of black hair. But from what he could see, it was indeed his friend Azura. Although she seemed a little down in the dumps. "Hey there. You doing alright?" |
Quote:
She shrugged as he asked her if she was doing all right. "I think so, I just feel slightly lonely, everyone seems so busy with school work and stuff." She said as she looked up at him with a nod.. "I guess I just miss people.. Even you." She said with a soft laugh. |
Quote:
"I'm sorry I haven't been around a lot." He felt bad. The teen had made so many new friends this term and it was hard to hang out with them. Mainly because half the time he forgot he had friends. But there was no need to tell her that. "But I'm here now." He flashed her one of his famous smiles. Hopefully she didn't hate him too much. |
the first pargraph of Deniz's post = perfection. Yaaaaaas. Quote:
"Yes, he's a lot of fun. I'm glad you know him." That made the story all the better, especially since Davie had left out the parts about how Blaise was such a BULLY to him at first. All that mattered was that they were friends now. He grinned at her suggestion to peek inside, and started to reply in the affirmative... Quote:
"Hi, hi hi," Davie cooled it and resumed his smug tour-guide pose. "This is Katherine Moss. We're taking a tour of all the cool places Hogwarts has to offer." And they had been about to go into the Room of Requirement, but since Genny was here, David tapped his chin with his finger. "Do you wanna join us? We should probably skip going into the Room, although I highly recommend that you both check it out on your own time." It was a cool place to be in private, too. |
Text Cut: U peeps Someone else recognised David. Well, it was no wonder he was a popular guy: he was smart, hard working, fun and good looking. She bet a few girls had a crush on him, but she also bet he didn't even care - he was smart and cool like that. Anyway, she recognised the girl too. Her name was Geneva Tate. Katherine knew, because she took notes during classes about her class mates too, ahem. However, she would pretend to not know the girl, of course. . . . had this girl read Hogwarts, A History? Could she keep up with their intellectual level? Katherine didn't know WHY, but she secretly wanted the girl to say No, I'll pass. Ladies and gentlemen, Katherine Moss felt jealous for a friend for the first time in her life. |
Quote:
"I don't think it's responded to me." She said with a shrug. "It's all right, no one has been around much, I haven't seen Jasper much since the beginning of term." Well, she had seen him here and there while he had been studying, but they hadn't hung out much at all. She smiled widely back at him and she nodded. "Yes, you are here now! And look, it's not crazy and things are flying around us and we aren't falling off walls." She teased him.. "So how have you been? |
Quote:
The Ravenclaw let out a chuckle. "I wouldn't put it past the school though. The staircases move, and there are ghosts. So If things start flying off the shelves, it wouldn't surprise me." But he wasn't sure how to defend them in that kind of situation. He'd probably figure it out. "I'm doing alright, Azura. Although I'm unsure what's going on this year. First there was that food fight earlier in the year, and the Divination's teacher is a hag that lives in a tent on the grounds." He just shook his head. What was going on? It seemed no one could get a break this year. |
Quote:
She giggled a bit as he spoke about things flying off walls and she nodded. "I swear things are crazy this year, is it usually like this? She asked him as she leaned back on the wall and tilted up her head to aim her purple gaze at the older teen. This was her first year and all! "Well, I'm glad to hear it." She shivered at the mention of the hag.. "I haven't seen her and I don't want too! I hope I can make it through this year without seeing her." She said with a nod. |
Quote:
Quote:
"I would love to!" Join them in their quest of exciting things, as a Ravenclaw would put it. Hehehe. "I haven't found The Room yet, but I promised someone I'd find it with them and we'll try and make it give us a pool." Ha?? ha??? She looked as excited as she felt at the thought. "So, what's so interesting about this place?" Her eyes glanced around where they stood with the quiet Katherine Moss. |
Quote:
"Lemme tell you, Azura, things aren't usually like this. Maybe a few things here and there are weird. But nothing of this magnitude." He ran his fingers through his messy black hair. Something about this year was definitely off. Maybe it was the amount of teachers who were new, that was making the balance off. Ancient Runes wasn't even a class this year. Something in the air of Hogwarts was different. "You really don't want to. The first divination class I went to, we all gathered around a fire, and she used a spell that made us all glued to our seats." He was going to leave out the part where she almost ate them. That wasn't the best idea for a first year. Wouldn't want to scare anyone off now. |
Quote:
Her purple eyes were on him as he spoke and she shivered a bit. "That sounds terrible, remind me never to go to her class! She bit her lip, wondering if the rumors she had heard about the class were true! Did she really try to eat someone? She wasn't going to ask.. because she really and truly didn't want to know! "Well, let's hope we can make it through the rest of the year okay! It's nearly my birthday and I haven't injured myself in a week! So, that's good huh?" She asked with a smile up at the teen. |
Quote:
"She did seem to have predictions, though," He mentioned about the Divination class. "Whether they were true or not is a different story. But she'd have a fun class if she put a little effort in it." As for the rest of the year, who knew? Were students going to go missing? Was one of them going to die, like his friend, Gregory? This was not something he wanted to find out. So, he decided to focus on the positive. "It's your birthday next week? Happy early Birthday then. What day?" Next time he was in Hogsmeade, hew as going to have to figure out a present. Maybe candy. "Is there a certain candy you like?" He personally had a taste for cinnamon flavored sugar quills. But not everyone had that same love for it. |
Quote:
Come play with me? EEEKKKK Predictions hmm? Well then.. perhaps not eating children would help her keep a job? Just.. a thought. "I see, is she still around?" She asked curiously. Almost expecting to see the Hag or the Doll at any moment now! And if that happened.. Austin better be prepared for a hug! "Yeah! It's coming up so soon! December 22nd! I'm going to be 12!" She said with a warm smile as she looked up at him.. somehow 12 just felt so much older than 11! "Hmm.." Azura thought for a moment. "I like dark chocolate, Watermelon flavored sugar quills and sherbet balls." She nodded. Yup, those were all her favorite candies. |
for the most random raven of them all Cats. James had about six of them. All on cat leashes. It had been easy enough to get them to follow. Two were moodier than the others, but it wasn't anything a bit of catnip couldn't handle. Besides, James knew creatures. It's what he did best. So of course keeping control had been the easy part. The only hard part had been getting them in the first place. And even that was rather easy. All he had to do was announce a Cat Checkup Clinic. And students came running. It was really all too easy. The only thing that was missing here was some help. Which is precisely why James hadn't taken his cat crew to the final location yet. He was still scouting. An eager student, hopefully. |
Azura and professor Quote:
"Wow, that's close to mine! Mine's January 13th. And next time we head over to Hogsmeade, I'll make sure to buy you something." Austin spent his summers helping his dad in the pub, so he had saved up for the school year. Helping out mainly meant cleaning the tables at the end of the night, but it still made decent money. The tables don't seem as clean without you his letter had said. Maybe over the Holidays, he'd help out again. It would give him a chance to save up for the second half of term. Maybe even buy some Christmas presents. Just as his mind had wondered from the 'crazy year' topic, the COMC professor came wondering down the hall with cats on leashes. Cats. On leashes. They never caught a break, did they? At least they seemed to be normal cats, and not cats on fire, or rabid ones. Both things Austin wouldn't be surprised about. "Um, professor," He called out. "Do you need any help?" |
Quote:
And speaking of the Professor... Right now at her twelve o'clock direction, there was the strict creatures Professor. Just hoped that he wasn't a mind-reader because she was bad-talking about the Professors in her mind. Well, there's no such thing as a mind-reader, right? It was just the stuffs from muggle superhero comic book.... Right. She was safe, cue dramatic sigh. "Hello there, Professor Draper." The young lioness greeted the man. |
bit for Austin as well xD SPOILER!!: Avaaa As he leaned against the wall scouting out for a As he settled back into the wall, he considered exactly how he was meant to go about this whole ordeal. The execution would be easy, it was the plan that would be a little more taxing. "Miss Burton," that was her name, yes? He couldn't ever be sure. All the kids were starting to look the same, honestly. There were far too many of them. Too many names to remember. Honestly, it was a lot to ask for. With a quick glance down at the cats, he turned his attention back to the little girl standing before him. She would prove to be an excellent subject. "You like cats, Burton?" |
Post 4 - Team Besties Rachel hadn't said much since Haddie told her the news. The walked all the way down from the Astronomy tower in silence and started to make their way along the seventh floor corridor. "She's trying," Haddie said finally. "Mom's really trying, but Dad's not budging on it." She kicked a pebble or something that was laying in the middle of the corridor. "The only other time I've seen him this way is when it comes to his twin." And Rachel knew all about how strongly Haddie's Dad refused to have anything to do with his brother, from both Haddie herself and Ailsa. Haddie knew her father, and knew he wasn't likely to give in this time. Especially if he found out about Professor Newton poisoning them, like he somehow did about the Hag. ... Haddie stopped and backed up. Speaking of Newton... They had almost passed right by it. "Found it." She took the parchment, quill and book right out of Rachel's hands. It was nice to have a distraction right now. N-E-W-T-O-N 5+5+5+2+6+5 She passed the stuff back to Rachel. "If it sends up to the 9th floor, I'm gonna scream." |
Arithmancy Lesson 1- Post 4 #TeamBesties "I don't think she's trying hard enough,'' Rachel said again in a small voice. The thought of her having to go through the remainder of Hogwarts without one of her best friends numbed her. "Now I know whom you get that stubbornness from.'' This Denaker stubbornness wouldn't stop her though. She would try, she would help her friend as much as she could. This was why, Rachel decided that she would write a letter to Mr Denaker soon. On and on they walked, Rachel trying to focus on their activity and not of this time next year when she could be Haddie-less. But then Haddie's voice broke through the silence that had followed. Yes indeed she had found it! "Wonderful. Here you go.'' Though she didn't need to hand over the quill and so on. When the other Eagle was done, Rachel collected them back again with a giggle. "We may have to walk all the way down lots of flights of stairs instead.'' She double checked the assigned numbers for good measure and then did the calculations (double checking those as well): Quote:

Having made it up to the seventh floor, Janelle wondered where she and Zeke should look first. This whole eighth floor thing was confusing. Did it refer to the towers or something else? "I think we should just cover the entire seventh floor, if we have to. There has to be something here to give us a clue." Looking high and low, Janelle searched for the parchment or something that would lead them to the parchment. This Scavenger Hunt was turning out to be harder than she thought it would be. "Do you see it? Do you see anything that can help us." On and on they walked and searched. Then Janelle's eyes lit up with excitement. "Look, over there! There it is!" The parchment was hiding in plain sight. She still couldn't figure out the eight, when this was the seventh floor. Anyway, Janelle matched the letters with the numbers for Zeke to calculate. Quote:

Arithmancy post 5 - Esme Quote:
She followed Esme back down into the towers and out of the patch, glad to be out of the freezing cold. While walking she continued to talk about the Tapestry. "I was wondering the exact same thing! Whoever put those papers there might know the whole story behind the Tapestry. I mean, unless they were just using them as bookmarks - but that would be so lame. Mase and I are planning to sneak into the Forbidden Section of the library to find clues." Kitty froze and paled as she realized what she had just done. It had been so exciting talking about the Tapestry that she hadn't stopped to consider that Esme might tattle on them. "But you won't tell anyone, will you? We aren't going to damage anything, we're just curious. Please don't tell anyone." If she wasn't curious then she wouldn't have been placed in Ravenclaw. Kitty looked at Esme pleadingly, begging her to understand. |
Arithmancy Activity - Post 5 Quote:
"Mase?" Who was that? She was trying to follow along with what Kitty was telling her, but looking for a clue at the same time made it a little difficult. She got the gist of it, however. "So you think that there is a book that contains the information? Could you just ask a Professor for permission?" Yeah, that was the more 'boring' way of doing things, but sneaking into the Forbidden Section seemed a little risky to her and she didn't want her friend to get into a lot of trouble. Oh. Apparently this mission was too top secret for that. "Don't worry. I promise I won't tell anyone about it." So long as no one else overheard the plan was safe... Looking around to see if anyone was lurking nearby, Esme spotted a piece of paper attached to the wall by the tapestry of Barnabas the Barmy. "I found it!" she said excitedly as she rushed over. "It's Professor Newton!" Quickly she used her textbook to work out the numbers they needed to add together: Quote:
|
Quote:
"Thanks Esme!" Relief flowed through her as Esme promised not to tell anyone. "You could join us if you wanted. I mean, I'm not asking you to go to the Forbidden section, but we could investigate in other areas also. Maybe one of the ghosts knows something, they've been here awhile and can float threw things." Then Esme found the clue that happened to be right behind her. Kitty took Esme's notebook and added her numbers: Quote:

arithmancy (again) Quote:
“I’m sick of these stairs” Mel complained aloud as she made it to the landing and then spotted it. The tapestry. “Lets check behind everything” she muttered and walked forward and saw it. The name. “NEWTON” she announced….”okay…well lets see that would be” she muttered and opened up her book to compare what numbers would go where. “555265” and began looking around…”5 and 5 and is 10 there are two sets of that so 20…and 2 and 6 is 8…so 28…and 2 and 8 add up to 10…so” she paused and ground at her workmates. “we have to go all the way down stairs” she ground and flopped onto the ground. “and my brain is starting to hurt from all the maths, you two get the next one” she huffed as she trudged over to the stairs and peered down. “I really don’t want to climb all the way down there” she frowned and looked at the boys before sulkily stomping down a few steps. “You two ready?” She asked. |
Ariadne had been this way before. She didn't come ALLLLL the way up to the seventh floor often, but she remembered there being another tapestry in this direction. "The dancing troll tapestry is this way," she pointed out to Jace. "Since the last clue was at a tapestry, maybe this one is at a tapestry, too." It was a long shot, but they didn't have loads of choices, since they'd just gotten lost. Ariadne wandered further down the corridor with Jace hopefully right beside her. Reaching the tapestry, Ariadne began searching around and around, occasionally laughing to herself at how silly the dancing troll looked. "JACE!" she suddenly called out. "There it is!" Sure enough, a parchment with the name NEWTON was hiding nearby. Ariadne quickly sat down on the floor and took out all her materials. Then she began to calculate. N E W T O N 5 5 5 2 6 5 5 + 5 + 5 + 2 + 6 + 5 = 28 2 + 8 = 10 1 + 0 = 1 "Looks like we're heading ALLLLL the way down to the first floor," she said, showing him the parchment. "How's this look? At least it's a floor we know is in the castle. Less chance of us getting lost again!" Either way, they weren't staying on this floor anymore, so Ariadne grabbed her things and began heading off as she waited for Jace to confirm. First floor? Yes? No? |
Ariadne (Moving!) Jace wondered if all Slytherins were this energetic. The Ravenclaw followed his partner inside the seventh floor, and just busied himself rubbing his cheeks. He was sure it had gone pink again from the compliment earlier, and the half-Japanese was sort of embarrassed that he's always turning a certain shade of red whenever he gets a word for a job well done. Ariadne being a unique Slytherin gave him a warm, fuzzy feeling inside. Jace knows she'd make a good friend, and a Slytherin at that! As soon as they got to the tapestry, Jace tried his best not to giggle out loud...failing to do so, he inclined his head towards the funny artefact in apology, his shoulders shaking violently from the chuckles. He didn't want to offend it, should the tapestry be sacred or something. Jace's head turned to where Ariadne was, and quickly took steps towards her...and a statue. "Newton." A very pregnant pause. "I feel sorry for him. I'm all for hands-on learning, but being poisoned for real, right under his nose?" he said, blinking his eyes...examining the statue for the first time. "Barnabas the Barmy..." he grinned at the man's accomplishment of training trolls to dance, and then turned to face Ariadne who completed her calculation. The Ravenclaw checked and cross-checked her work and gave her a thumbs up. "Correct!" he said beaming at his partner, and nodded in agreement. "I have to agree. We just have to keep our eyes open for the parchment this time." Hopefully no more tricks? Though he did enjoy figuring out the 8th floor one, in all honesty. Jace checked his things, and gently tugged on Ariadne's sleeve. "Let's go!" And down the staircase he went. |
Arithmancy class post 5 (and different TL from Draper) Quote:
So here they were, at the Barnabus the Barmy tapestry. Okay... The clue must've been here somewhere... And BINGO! "There you are." She murmured. "You want to do the calculations?" She asked the Slytherin girl. Maybe yes because... She didn't really like Professor Newton, especially of what he had done in the previous class. |
Though it felt awkward working alone already felt a lot faster, and easier. But the downside was she couldn't discuss her thinking with someone, and if she talked out loud to herself the students would think she's batty. She had gotten tot he seventh floor before realizing there is no eighth floor. Great. But perhaps the towers were the eighth? but then as she was walking past the tapestry labelled as Barnabus the Barmy she saw another parchment. Was this the one she needed, or had she stumbled upon a different clue? Madge truly wasn't sure, was this considered the towers? She sighed and decided she would just assume this is what she was looking for and scrawled 'Newton' onto her parchment before adding up the math. SPOILER!!: Madge's Notes REALLY? She has just climbed this ENTIRE castle and now she was to go back tot he first floor? Madge could feel her heart beating, and she resolved to do more physical activity so that when she returned to Ireland in the summer she could keep up with her four brothers, her sister was a bit more sedentary in her activities. "Right then." she muttered to herself and ran back the direction she had came towards the staircases. She hoped at least one of the paths on the moving staircases was open to the first floor. |
It was weird how the top floors didn't feel all that high up until you looked out the windows. Jay bounced himself up the steps, then up moooore steps, then even mooooore, until they were on the seventh. He headed for one of the towers immediately, and spotted some of the students from their class. "You were right!" He said to Olivia with a nod, pointing and making a beeline for where the others were. There was adding to be done! Eagerly he looked at his Ravenclaw. "You wanna add this one? Or should I?" |
Arithmancy (Ava) SPOILER!!: Ava Having had no luck up in the Astronomy tower Hady followed the young lioness back down the stairs and into the corridors of the seventh floor once more. Rather then take the lead as she had on the fourth floor she hung back just a bit so that the other girl could lead the way. This proved to be a good idea as within just a few short minutes of walking and looking at everything they passed they came across the parchment. It was stuck on the wall right next to the painting of Barnabus the Barmy. "Sure, I can do that," Hady answered taking the parchment and pen from partner so she could write down their 'findings'. Quote:
|
Arithmancy class post 6 Good that Hady wanted to do the calculation. Ava just watched her partner doing the calculations.... See? She worked even better than herself. Calculation wasn't just her stuffs. Besides, since the last class with Professor Newton, the young lioness didn't want to respect that man anymore. Even that she didn't want to hear his name again. So, the family number was one. That meant they both had to go to the first floor. "Where do you think Professor Tanner put the next clue?" She asked. Now she let Hady lead the way because she seemed know where the next clue was located. |
SPOILER!!: Janelle They reached the seventh floor in good time, and then came the hard part. Locating the actual parchment. Siiiiiiigggghhhh. Opting to split up for this part, Zeke worked one side of the corridor while Janelle worked the other. Eventually one of them had to find something, right? "Sounds like a plan to me," he agreed, because they didn't have much choice but to find it, so, no giving up, they'd scour the whole place if they had to. Did he see it? Anything? "Nope, you?" he called back to his partner. With no success on his end, Zeke was beginning to think they were at the wrong place, and that they should explore the towers, split up if they had to. Maybe. But as he was about to suggest it, Janelle came through with something, and that something, was IT. "Nice one," he praised as he joined her, noticing that she'd already assigned the values. As for 'doing his thing', Zeke grinned, slipping both the parchment and quill from Janelle's fingers. Quote:
|
Aritmancy SPOILER!!: Ava At hearing Ava's question she had to admit just then that she wasn't sure where the next clue would be. With a small sigh escaping her lips Hady shrugged her shoulders as she looked to the side at her partner. "I'm really not sure. The other clues were set out in the corridors by paintings so maybe this next one is too. Ooorrr maybe it's in the least likely place someone would go on the first floor?" The one place most people wouldn't normally go on their own with a good reason. If she was hiding something that's what she would probably do. One the first floor there was only one place like that. The Weasley Swamp. A disgusting spot really but a good place to put a clue. "The Swamp?," Hady asked curiously as she headed down the corridor towards the stairs that would take them to the first floor. |
Arithmancy :: Mel and Sabbath Tenacius actually ran ahead of their group, wondering where this 8th floor could be. He tried pushing his way up the Divinations tower but that was sealed shut. Well ok, if that wasn’t where they were supposed to look WHERE then? Up on the roof? He has just made his way back down onto the 7th floor just as he heard Mel complain about the stairs. The curly top had to chuckle at that. The Moving Staircase probably found it funny to lead Mel the long way around. But lo and behold theres the other parchment. "But its on the 7th floor?" Yeah that made no sense to him. And he was pretty sure their arithmetic was right previously so yeah, tricksy Tanner was tricksy. So the trio worked over the numbers again and Tenacius paused when the numbers showed 10. "That does NOT mean we have to start looking for some phantom tenth floor again are we?" Oh wait, reduce the numbers again and they get a 1. "One. That’s the first floor." the curly top muttered. "Is that really the first floor, the ground floor or the dungeons?" See what happens when tricksyness is dealt out? "Yeah race you down!!" he suddenly called out to his other tired team mates. |

Newton “Sure…I can do it,” the Ravenclaw answered willing to do her part. She took the parchment and such back before going to work, writing it all down and then doing the matching and math. SPOILER!!: work “1? As in first floor?” she suggested, looking to Jaemin as she finished. “Guess that would mean we’re heading down again.” |

"It's right... I wonder how many there are. Did you count the scrolls before she sent them away? I didn't..." he tilted his head thoughtfully, turning back toward the stairs, and bounced off again. To the first floor they'd gooooo. |

There was a part of her that wished she was off and saving them from the long, looooong walk back down to the first floor. She did the walk down every morning so she was well aware of what it entailed. But no such luck, that was to be their next destination. So they better get a move on so they could make it to the next clue with time to return to the floor above at one point before class ended. They didn’t have all day after all. As for how many parchment scrolls there were as a whole or left for them to find, she was clueless. “Me neither…” she said with a shrug. Onto the first floor! |
Text Cut: Stefan Ariadne kind of thought she MIGHT have noticed a slight blush coming from Jace, but she didn't mention anything about it. She didn't know why he might be embarrassed over something, so maybe her eyes were just playing tricks on her. She glanced down at her parchment and mentally re-checked her work while she waited on Jace to do the same. "Newton...yeah," she said, agreeing with what Jace said about him. "I haven't told my mom yet. With her being the former Potions Mistress here, she's liable to have a fit once she finds out..." She grinned when Jace agreed that her calculations were correct. For a couple of first years, they sure were good at calculating! Well, except for that one that led them to the eighth floor. She still hadn't decided if that was a mistake or just a trick. Either way... "Off to the first floor we go!" she said, and she gathered everything in haste and followed after Jace. |
SPOILER!!: Zeke Janelle watched as Zeke completed the calculations on the numbers she had written. She groaned as he noted that their next stop was the first floor. "Is she trying to make sure that we get our proper exercise today?" At least they were going down this time, not up. "Now the big question is, where on the first floor might the parchment be?" They had way too many options and that was not good. The clock was ticking and Janelle was not sure how much time they had left. She guessed that they could think about it on the way down. "Come on. We'd better get going before we run out of time." Janelle headed toward the stairs and then turned around to make sure that Zeke was coming. "First floor, here we come", she thought to herself. |
SPOILER!!: Janelle He loved exercise, really he did, but this seemed to be more of a case of messing them around more than anything else. Tsk tsk tsk. "Maybe, I guess if people are rushing this they can't complain about being cold." Stairs were pretty good at getting the blood pumping. But Janelle was right, it wasn't just that it was on the first floor, but WHERE on the first floor. "Your guess is as good as mine," he all but snorted. Zeke was quick to get moving again, he wasn't interested in being last or missing out, and time was a factor in this. How much time did they have left??? Keeping up close behind Janelle, Zeke followed her back the way they'd come. |
Apparently Professor Tanner liked putting up these parchments near famous tapestries in the castle, because heading up the towers (because that's the only thing that comes after the seventh floor), it didn't take long for Tia to spot the next clue next to old Barnabus. The name of her potions master; Newton, it was just there. Adding that name down right below her calculations for Moxley and Myers, Tia added NEWTON and began working through it. N-E-W-T-O-N 5-5-5-2- 6-5 28 = 10 = 1 So apparently she was headed back down to the first floor after climbing all these steps to the towers. Merlin, if Tanner wanted to give them all exercise this was definitely one way to do it. |
