When the students and professors arrive at their destination, they are surrounded by what truly looks like a wasteland. Cracked, dusty earth, a dull brown in color, puffs up with dust when anyone steps down on the ground. The shapes of the cracks in the ground resemble a tortoise shell, and all around them...for miles, is nothing. Absolutely nothing. Birds do not fly by, there are no animals in sight, and the dense quiet that surrounds them was truly eerie.
This land, ruined in some way by muggles, was for all intents and purposes a desert. The soil was unusable, if you could call the hard ground soil at all.
It is YOUR job, as a student attending this field trip, to do everything in your power to help this land get healthy again! The plants grafted in Herbology from before Christmas are off to the side, just waiting to be planted. A small tent is located next to the potted trees, and inside this tent is a box of supplies that Professor Flamsteed procured for some good ole’ fashioned soil analysis! Professor Moxley has provided some muggle tools to help with the planting stuff as well! So enjoy your LOVELY uniforms...and let’s get to work! Professor Myers has some topical potions to prevent sunburn! So get your potion and let’s gooooo!
the above map is for OOC reference only.
It is meant to serve as a guide to help you RP tasks appropriately.

☼ Tasks ☼
Soil Analysis
SPOILER!!: Steps
Located inside the tent you will find the following materials to be used for soil analysis: vials of identifying solution (presently clear will turn colors), plastic beakers, trowels, and small jars of powdered carbon. To perform a complete soil analysis you must perform the following steps:
collect a trowel full of dirt and add to a beaker
pour 1 cup of the solution into the beaker with the dirt and swirl it around 5 times clockwise
point your wand at the mixture and say “Cibus Revelio” (solution will turn colors to indicate what that particular area needs most). The area has been sealed off and approved by the Ministry for underage wizards to perform magic.
based on the color change, administer appropriate restoration effort
blue : plant a grafted plant (see directions below)
yellow : plant cabbage saplings (see directions below)
red : mix one tablespoon powdered carbon in with the soil sample and massage the solution back into the ground with your hands.
brown/remains unchanged: nothing needs done
overlapping colors
: at the digression of the RPer
A minimum of 4 posts is required for this activity (preferably 2 posts in 2 different areas of the map)
Planting the Grafted Trees
SPOILER!!: Steps
The trees the grafted from the beginning of term are in a clump located on the right. This task requires a few steps in order to be considered completed. No magic is to be used during this portion. Use shovels, wear gloves, and keep hydrated as your work! These are still relatively small trees, but not as baby as they were in the beginning of term. Keep in the mind the grafted trees should only be planted where the ground is in need of NITROGEN [blue areas].The steps are as followed:
Digging hole (with shovel)
Unpotting tree
Placing tree in ground
Recovering with dirt (with shovel)
Watering the tree once it’s in the ground
Have fun with this and interact with each other! Minimum of 2 posts required!
Planting Cabbage
SPOILER!!: Steps
On the opposite side of where the trees are located are a whole plow of cabbage saplings waiting to be planted in the ground! The cabbages are for ground where nitrogen is too rich because cabbages help reduce nitrogen in soil. Planting these plants is pretty similar planting the trees with slight differences. There are also some buckets of compost to help the cabbage and soil in these areas [yellow areas]. The cabbages are in biodegradable pots. The steps are as followed:
Digging the hole (using a spade this time, cabbages are little!)
Mix compost into the soil in the hole
Wet the cabbage
Tear the bottom off of biodegradable pot
Place cabbage in the hole
Fill in hole
Water those baby cabbages!
Again, have fun with this! Get messy, interact with each other, ask questions, complain. Minimum of 2 posts required!

No silly.
Seeing has she had already dug the holes, Elsa busied herself adding compost and mixing it. "Oh, nice to meet you Ariadne, we're in the same house!" she chirped after a few moments of silent work. Greingoth. That sounded familiar, yet Elsa couldn't remember where she had heard it before "Have we met before? I think I've heard your name somewhere?" But that was highly unlikely, after all Elsa came from Portugal only this year, and all the vacations she had spent in the country before were short and mostly at her grandparents house.
After making sure the ground was nicely mixed with compost, Elsa picked up each cabbage, carefully and made sure they were wet before tearing the bottom of the biodegradable pot and passing them along to Ariadne to place them in the hole.
She then started placing the dirt back around the plants. They had been at this for a couple of hours now and Elsa's face was red from the sun, her hands even though they wore protective gloves, were a mess from before, when she didn't use the protective gloves. Her hair was all over the place but she felt happy. They had done something good to this place. Looking around, it looked a little more alive!
Ariadne perked up. "We are? Wonder why we've never met! That's so weird," she commented. How had they gone from September to APRIL without ever meeting each other? She thought about Elsa for a minute then looked long and hard at her face. "Wait! I know you! You're a first year, right? Me, too! We're dorm mates!" Okay, now that was officially weird. Not only had they gone from September to April without meeting...they shared a dorm the entire time!
By this time, Elsa had already wet the cabbage, torn the bottom off the pot, and passed it to Ariadne, so the first year began placing the cabbages in the holes she'd made--one for her, and one for Elsa. "Alright, all we need to do is fill up these holes and water the cabbages!" she said. Ariadne began scooping the soil back into the hole, filling the gaps and patting it down nicely. She then passed Elsa a watering can and took one for herself, too. She sprinkled water all over the baby cabbage she'd claimed as her own.

Planting the Grafted Trees: Post 1
Otter This World ♡ Catpurrccino ♡ Slotherin ♡ Pandamonium
Checking out the grafted trees they had helped make in the beginning of the year Hady couldn't help but grin a little bit at just how well the trees were growing. Some of them had gotten rather large. Selecting one of the smaller ones she could find and collecting herself a shovel and a pair of gloves she was ready to get started.
Well after she dragged her tree back over to where her things were. Wrinkling her nose a little bit she walked back to her spot and set down the shovel and gloves before returning to get the tree. It took some effort in pushing the potted tree across the dry soil and she was making herself dirty but that didn't stop her one bit as she shoved at and tugged at the pot.
After some time she managed to get it where she needed it to be. Wiping the back of her hand across her forehead she grabbed up the shovel and poked it at the soil. Time to get a digging!
Not an easy task at all but she kept going. First one scoop of dirt set aside. Then another. And another. Slowly but surely the pile of soil was growing and the hole she was making got deeper and deeper. Just enough so it was a bit larger then the potted area of her tree would be. Now came the next trying part.
Getting the tree from the pot and into the ground!
There was noway she'd be able to just pull the tree from it's pot without harming it or herself. No that wasn't going to happen. Buuuttttt....
A small smirk tugged at her lips as she got an idea. Using the shovel she edged it into the pot of her tree and carefully edged it all the way around in a circle loosening up the soil. Wiggling the shovel a little she was able to get it underneath the soil and slowly pry the tree out from it's pot and then lift it the rest of the way.
When she had it out it was much easier to then just set it into the hole she had just dug up for it.

Azura treked across the barren land as she went to collect some cabbages. She was kind of hot, but that didn't stop her from her mission to help this poor place! What had happened to it?
It couldn't have been a bomb right? The professors surely wouldn't let them be In a radioactive place.. Right?
She didn't really want to glow at night! She passed some of her classmates working hard and she smiled, it felt nice to be making a difference, even if it was only a small one!
She made it back to the tent and grabbed the cabbages along with some compost and started to haul it back towards where she has stuck her spade in the dirt.. She was so grateful she has done that! Otherwise she might have been super lost!!
Okay!
She turned back at the one hour call!
Eeeek! Time to get a move on! She made it back to her spot and pulled the trowel out of the ground.
Finally, finally, finally Kitty had managed to dig a small hole. She was not strong by any stretch of the imagination, and the effort left her panting harder than anyone around her. It was super embarrassing and she tried to get it under control.
But the other steps were easy. She unpotted the tree and placed it in the ground. Covering it with dirt was much easier than unburying it, and the work went smoothly. Then she took out her wand and pointed it at the ground.
."Aguamenti!" a small, beautiful trickle of water flowed from her wand into the ground. It felt satisfying seeing it happen.

How was she supposed to grow a cabbage?
Not remembering the process, Esme left her equipment lying beside the small hole she had dug into the soil and headed back to read the piece of paper that told them what to do. Nodding as she finished, she was sure that she could easily complete the task. Not as if she was a stranger to gardening as she sometimes helped her mom with it at home. Though they didn't grow cabbages...
Committing what she needed to do to memory, Esme got herself some compost and set about digging a hole in the dirt right where she had collected the sample. It was a little hard to know just how deep she was supposed to go, so she figured that it was best to go off of what her mother did when it came to gardening. The baby cabbages couldn't be planted too deep because they were small. At least she knew THAT much. Smiling to herself, she worked with the trowel until she felt that she had done enough digging and was ready to move on to the composting part.
Crinkling her nose a little but not greatly bothered with using compost, Esme began mixing it in with the dirt. Glancing up for a moment, she saw that Azura was also working on a baby cabbage nearby. "This lesson is a lot of fun, isn't it?" she told her friend happily as she worked. Hogwarts should have more field trips.

Azura picked up her spade and started to dig a bit of a hole for the cabbages! It didn't need to be that big! So as soon as she got enough dirt out of her hole she moved back onto her knees..
Hmm.. What was next?
She was distracted from her thoughts of what to do next when she heard Esme's voice! She turned and beamed widely at her friend.
"It is a whole lot of fun yes! I'm loving it! It makes me few good to know that I am helping out!" She said with a smile as she turned back to her cabbages.
Oh right!! Compost!! She picked up the compost bag and poured some into the hole she just dug and with her little trowel, she started to mix it up! Yeah! That looked good!
Alright now.. "Aquamenti!" she said as she moved her wand over the cabbages to wet it.

Cibus Revelio…that was it.
Olivia went over the spell over and over in her head before finally feeling ready to cast it. “Cibus Revelio,” she spoke clearly as she cast, her wand once more pointed into the beaker. Once more it didn’t seem to what to do anything in response and the first year feared it still wasn’t right. That was until it started turning which stopped her from trying again. Turning until it settled on a brown color which the instructions meant that the area where she had taken her sample was actually doing all right. So there was nothing she needed to do to it. Good for her and apparently the soil.
So the Ravenclaw gathered up her testing supplies in her gloved hands so she could move on. She doubted the professors just wanted her to do nothing. Looking around where she was, Olivia tried to find a spot that no one else was working on nearby that looked like it might need help more than others. At least didn’t look like her first sample area. Maybe there was a distinct look for the bad areas versus the good or okay areas.
Quickly given they had gotten an one hour warning.
He did not have time to sit here watching Hani make the ground better. He had other ground to fix!! Jaemin gave Hani's leaves another gentle pat before hopping up and taking off for another area of their little work site; this time, he placed himself much closer to the tent and the supplies, because that meant he'd have more time to get stuff done. Less running back and forth! He slipped into the tent for new supplies after setting Hani's empty pot down on the ground with the remaining trees.
A moment later he was re-emerging with another beaker and more of the solution stuff, and he rushed to the space where he was sorta sure he had been previously. It all looked the same, except now with more trees and cabbages. The small boy hummed and squatted down again, scraping at the hard earth to get a trowel full of dirt to swirl in with the solution.
SWIRL SWIRL SWIRL SWIRL SWIIIIIIIIIIIRL.
And then the spell. "Cibus Revelio!" What colour would it be this time, huh?!
Toothless - Napoleon of Crime - Gryffinclaw - Owl Emissary - Pirate Auror - DoctorDonna
She wandered a bit, heading off to the right side of their little patch of misshapen heaven. It was there that Olivia felt like she had a possible appropriate work area this time around. So she resettled onto the ground and got out the clean beaker, having left the other used one where she had taken her sample. No need to have someone test the same area twice and waste time and effort. “Scourgify!” the Ravenclaw cast on the trowel for no contamination before taking a new collection of soil. That was added to the beaker as before, followed by the vial of solution.
One…two…three…four…five swirls of the materials to mix them together. Olivia then picked up her wand once more and focused on the spell again hoping it worked like her second attempt. "Cibus Revelio!" The change happened quicker this time around and it wasn’t brown as before. Nope, this time it was blue which according to the notes meant that a grafted plant needed to be planted here to try and fix the area up.

Peering around him though, it was easy to see that his efforts were still lacking, SO.... deciding to do what OTHERS were doing... in the same-ish area, Zeke retrieved a couple of cabbages and started planting them into the dirt thing... which couldn't legitimately be called soil, could it? Like... it was fail.
Using the trowel he dug a whole/dent deep enough and planted the cabbage in it. With gloved hands he patted down the dirt and stepping back he gave it a good watering, "Aguamenti."
.... And just as the spell left his lips, the beaker turned blood red.
He was startled so much that he nearly dropped the beaker. Hobbling Hinkypunks his mud chocolate turned into blood! Did he just make like a biblical prophet? Will locusts start flying in from the sky???
He looked at his wand and frooooowned. "I told you not to pull anything crazy today wand!" he muttered as he frantically looked at the instructions clipboard. He wanted his solution to turn BLUE so he and Frank can stake their claim! But now the solution turned into bloody and he was really starting to despise his wand and--
-- oh waitaminute. There was something here that says what he should do if the solution turned red. "So it’s a thing?" he mumbled as he read some more. "....Mix one tablespoon powdered carbon in with the soil sample and massage the solution back into the ground with your hands...."
Ohhhh clay making time. Kinda.
He looked at his wand and gave it an apologetic smirk and set it back in its holster. So a table spoon of powdered carbon? In it goes. Stir stir stir and.... The red stopped being red? It was kinda brown now, but a darker shade of brown. Uhhhh.... So did that mean it worked?
He looked at the instructions again and then shrugged. All it says was make like a fun little clay pile with this murky former-bloody solution. So that the leonine lad did, pouring the solution back into the ground and FUN TIME!
Werk it werk it the whoooole thing into the ground. Now he had a nice clay pile in front of him. And then he had a thought, TWO thoughts actually.
First he grabbed a fistful of the clay and started forming it into something that vaguely resembles a horse. This was a family tradition see, specially in places where it was their first time going there. His thoughts drifted to his folks. He cant wait to show them this Outer Rim territory horsie!
Then he moved into his next thought, which was to smoothen out this muddy hole in the ground into something worth remembering. Stake his claim like he said he would yeah? Smooth smooth smooth smooth smoooooth. Then SLAP! Down goes his hands onto the mud.
And then just sign it off, collect his new horsie and he would be on his way.
Paul had left Dot to her own devices, sure that she could handle herself. She was a big, bad Slytherin prefect, wasn't she? Of course she could handle herself! He wandered around to make sure people were doing what they were supposed to but also...not miserable. MOST people seemed to be having fun with this, especially the young Gryffindor...
He beamed. "VERY nice, Tenacius! I DIG it--" he chortled at his own joke. "I am glad you are having a fuuuuun time!" he nodded at him.
Did anyone else need him? Were people doing okay?! "If anyone needs any help or anything...hit me up, okay!" Did he sound cool, using the young people lingo? The words indeed sounded odd coming from his mouth and with his OLD!PEOPLE voice. So. you know. Milton would probably have told him to stop talking by now.

This ground was a Puffaluff. Jaemin stared at the beaker as the solution inside went a bright, eye-searing yellow; he looked from the beaker to the ground, confused, because how could there be too much nitrogen here when there was not enough elsewhere?! How had they messed up the ground this badly that it was so different from one spot to the next? He hadn't gone that far from his original spot... had he? Surely one had to go quite a bit further... but... nope. There it was.
Yellow. Which meant... cabbages.
Cabbages were not a plant that Jaemin had ever studied, nor did he find them very interesting. They made food with them. Sometimes it was yummy, sometimes it was not. He'd never considered the impact that they could have on the ground, but when you really got down to it... they were just a regular plant, which would probably explain why they would take the nitrogen out of the soil... right?
The small Slytherin hopped back up and clapped his hands lightly on his thighs to get the dusty dirt off; without missing a beat he bounded to where the cabbage pots were all set up and set about finding the peeeeeerfect one. It had to be nice and cabbagey, so it could make the ground all better! He picked up one pot, squinted at it, and then set it back down. Not big enough.
The next was also not big enough.
Nope. Nope. Nope. Noooooooooooope.
The small boy went through quite a few of the pots until he found the one that he wanted. It wasn't too small, nor was it too big. He was channeling Goldilocks and he had just found the right bed, yes. Good. Go team!
He held the plant to himself, picked up a small bucket with compost in it with two of his fingers, and carried it carefully back to his little plot. No bouncing this time, because he didn't want to upset his new plant friend or lose any of the compost! It was a good thing he was rather close though, because even with his gloves his fingers were not meant to be holding buckets like this, and he very nearly dropped it. As it was, he managed to set it down (a little harder than he wanted to, but everything stayed inside) before carefully putting the cabbage plant down and sitting on the ground next to it.
Now... another hole. Hmm.
He didn't have to use the shovel this time, because he didn't have to make a hole that was nearly as big as the other had been. But that also left him without the ability to hop on his digging utensil to pry up the baked earth. Jaemin looked at his trowel curiously before deciding to do what any normal twelve year old boy would do in this situation - he gripped it tightly, positioned himself, and stabbed at the ground as hard as he could, over and over and over, until it broke the hardened surface.
Yes, good. Very fun.
The rest of the hole, as before, was much muuuuuch easier to dig. The small Slytherin hummed to himself and scooped out enough dirt that the pot could be dropped in easily... now he just had to plant it!

Oh no. Oh NO NO NO. As Dot picked up her cabbage sapling, she spotted the bucket next to it. Where was Professor Myers?!? He KNEW how she felt about compost, knew that it was probably her boggart after the traumatizing experience she'd had with it last year.
Traumatizing, as in she'd been in the same room as it. Serious trauma.
In spite of the general rule about limited magic, Dot wasn't touching that bucket, and she was forced to levitate it back to her spot of land. The cabbages were fine to carry, but poop in a bucket... no touchy touchy.
Again, Dot dug a hole with her shovel, this time noting that her hands were taking a lot of abuse. Did gardeners all have these blisters on their hands? Why would they even want to take this sort of abuse on the regular? Once the hole was dug, Dot tipped her bucket o'poo into the hole and poked at it gently with her shovel.

All right.. She had a wet cabbage..
Yechhhh!
She quickly said "Finite. " to stop the water coming out of her wanna and then tried to tear the bottom off of her pot! Ugh.. That didn't want to come off easily! She whimpered a little as she tore at it, only to end up with scratched knuckles.. But finally.. After some more huffing and puffing.. She managed to get the bottom off and put it in the ground..
Grr.. That was hard!!
She was panting as she filled up the hole with dirt, patted it down and watered it again!
Done!!!
She smiled as she lay back down on the ground and stared up at the blue sky.
Made of Awesome | Ern-la the Best-wa | TZ's Apogee
Deciding that she was done with the compost (forever), Dot turned her attention back to her cabbages. These little saplings came in a different sort of bin than the trees had, and they didn't have to be removed from the container before going into the ground.
Instead, Dot just had to wet the pot, which she did with another Aguamenti, and then when it was super soggy, she ripped the bottom off the container with a severing spell (soggy = muddy, so... ew).
The entire thing went into the hole, which Dot immediately covered with the dirt she'd just removed. No more poop, no more smell, no more soggy container. In fact... no more cabbage work, 'cause she was done.

So Brian had spent the entire time since they had gotten there recovering from the awful motion sickness that came with taking a portkey. He'd done it once and he was never doing it again. At least not voluntarily. He'd probably have to take the portkey back to Hogwarts and suffer another wave of nausea there. What a wonderful life.
But, y'know, that one-hour warning thing was no joke. So he'd just shuffle over to get his supplies from the tent. And about five minutes later, Brian Woods was back in the infernal heat with a beaker holding a measured cup of identifying solution in one hand and a closed jar in his other. The trowel was under his arm, obviously. Pssh.
And there was an empty spot with no person doing stuff so he'd just start there. Putting the supplies down (except the trowel, he was using that), he bent down to a bit of soil and attempted to dig. Only he wasn't very smart about it and tried on the flat part that wasn't cracked and the earth was so dry and inelastic that the trowel just kinda skidded and because no force just disappeared, it kinda rebounded in the opposite direction. Which was his face. His forehead, if you were being specific.
Ouch.
The back of a trowel was definitely not a soft thing to hit your head on.

It was nice to know that she wasn't the only person who was enjoying this field trip. Esme sent Azura a thumbs up. "Do you do much gardening? Sometimes I help my mom with it at home but I've never planted a cabbage before." Mostly they had flowers, but there was a small vegetable patch as well. Her mom was so into gardening and while she didn't mind the process of it, looking at the flowers was a lot more appealing than planting and maintaining them.
Once the compost was mixed in enough, Esme grabbed a little cabbage. It was going to get a nice home and help to make the world a better place. It was amazing how well the earth could help itself if it was given the chance to. Sadly a lot of people were ignorant to the fact, but anyone could make a difference if they put their minds to it.
Using her wand, she wet the cabbage before setting about tearing the bottom off of the pot. In her opinion it was risky to use the severing charm on a vegetable so she set about doing it the old fashioned muggle way. Furrowing her brows in concentration she slowly made progress though by the end her fingers and knuckles were rather sore. No matter because she had dealt with a lot worse and was a big girl. Carefully she sat herself onto the ground so that she could place the cabbage into the hole that she had dug.
Setting it in place, she worked to fill in the hole. It was only when the earth was completely smooth and even that she felt ready to move on to watering. Aguamenti was a wonderful spell.

It had taken some work getting her grafted tree into her dug hole without a: dropping the tree or b: knocking herself over. She had done it though and she wasn't even all that dirty. Well if you didn't count the dirt all over her gloved hands, front of her uniform and the tiny scratch on her cheek she had received from a branch as she lowered the tree into the hole. All that mattered was the fact that the tree went from it's previous home in the pot to it's new one in the ground.
Now came the part of filling the hole back in with the soil she had gathered from when she was digging it. Hady grabbed her bottle of water taking a few sips first before putting the bottle down and picking up her shovel. This was easier to do then the digging and didn't take nearly as long. When the hole was filled back in with dirt she gently patted it down to make it a bit more firm and checked to see that her tree was standing as tall and straight as it could be. It was.
Dropping the shovel at her feet the brunette pulled out her wand from inside her uniform and aimed it at the ground. "Aquamenti," she cast softly aiming the stream of water that flowed from the wands tip at the soil around the tree as well as it's branches and leaves. After it had a nice drink she canceled the charm and stepped back to get a good look at her work.

Janelle picked up her trowel and attempted to chip away at the dry earth. It was hard, but she aimed the trowel at one of the cracks, hoping to loosen enough dirt to test. With repeated taps, Janelle was able to get what she thought was a sufficient sample. With her trowel full of dirt, she carefully set it down. Then she picked up one of her beakers and a vial of solution. Janelle uncapped the vial and poured the liquid into her beaker. Picking up her trowel, she poured the dirt sample into the beaker. She held it firmly and gave it a clockwise swirl, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 times.
Janelle set the beaker down and reached for her wand. Pointing it at her now brown liquid, she said, "Cibus Revelio". Anxious for the result, Janelle watched as her mixture turned from dirty brown to bright blue. Janelle checked her notes and she saw that her soil would require a grafted plant. Happy that she would get to plant her baby, she looked around for something to mark the spot. Janelle dug in her backpack and found an extra quill which she stuck into one of the cracks in the ground. Then she found a blue scrunchie and wrapped that around the top of the quill. Now she would be able to find her planting spot after she took her next sample. For now, it was on to the next sampling spot.

With one cabbage taken care of - as much as he could be bothered, Zeke then turned his attention to the next and proceeded to repeat his previous actions.
Spade, spade, spade... or trowel, or whatever one wanted to call the contraption... and theeeeeen... cabbage!
Picking it up and holding it in one hand, Zeke considered the plant. Like, he hoped his effort wouldn't be wasted and that the thing would survive in this decrepit wasteland. With something of a shrug to himself, Zeke plonked the cabbage in the hole he'd dug and filled the dirt around it, stopping to water it thoroughly. "Aguamenti." Honestly he really hoped the Professor's weren't keeping track of what he was doing or HOW he was doing it... because he was simply just DOING things. No thinking involved. Or very little at least.
Could they go now? He was officially bored of this.

Janelle walked around, toting her supplies, trying to find just the right spot to work. Hoping to get a different result this time, Janelle decided to go to the other side of the area. Basically it was just a random guess, but she found a spot that looked good to her. Janelle knew the drill by now, so she went down on one knee and began to dig with her trowel. This time, the job didn't seem quite as hard.
Janelle filled her trowel with soil much faster. Was the soil actually softer here or was it her imagination? Was she just getting better at the whole process? Noticing that her mind was wandering, Janelle tried to get her focus back on the task at hand. Her mind was drifting and she needed to pay attention to what she was doing. Janelle grabbed a beaker and poured her dirt sample into it. Then she got her 1 cup of identifying solution and added it to the beaker. Swirl, swirl, swirl, swirl, swirl, she did in a clockwise direction. Now Janelle just had to find out what was wrong with this sample and solve the problem. Easy, yeah?

Leaving the blue-colored beaker where she had taken her sample from as a sort of flag or notice of where she was working, Olivia headed back to where they had all began and the area beside the tent. There the remaining grafted trees sat and she couldn’t help but take notice of the changes. They were definitely bigger than they were when they first worked on them in class but not too huge. She could thankfully still move them, especially since there was notice that they shouldn’t use magic while planting them.
She almost wished she could find the two she herself had worked with but alas they were no longer named. So Olivia picked one randomly and made her way back towards her work area before returning to the supply tent to exchange her trowel for a full size shovel. Then properly equipped, the Ravenclaw returned to her tree and her spot to improve so she could do her work and down to improve it.

Glancing down at her baby cabbage, Esme was rather pleased.
The earth would be that little bit healthier and the vegetable now had a home. Hopefully it would receive enough water but she had done the trick for the moment. It was important not to overdo it because the plant might drown in the same way that a person would if they had too much at one time. She had made sure that she had done a good job; Professor Myers would be pleased with her work if he ventured down this way. As it was she was ready to move on and continue with the soil analysis.
Supplies in hand, she wandered around the area some more so that she could find a spot quite a distance away from where she had worked previously. This looks like as good a place as any, she thought as she set everything down on the ground.
Crouching down over the earth, she collected a sample with her trowel. Was it her imagination or was the soil a little different here? Raising her brow, Esme added the sample to a beaker.

When she was finally satisfied with the size and shape of the hole in the ground she had made, Olivia set down her shovel with a soft sigh. Bad dirt was hard dirt to work with, but she was through with it for the moment. Instead she took hold of the tree and the pot it was in and worked on separating the two from each other. It took a bit of effort as the roots almost seemed to have grown accustomed to its temporary home. But eventually the tree was free and the Ravenclaw was able to lift the tree free and move it instead to the newly dug hole made especially for it.
That in turn took a couple of tries as Olivia lowered it carefully into the ground with her gloved hands and then not feeling like it fit right. And then lifting it up slightly again and twisting it around until it felt like it had a better fit. Finally she kneeled back down on the ground to look it over from a different perspective. There….it seemed all well and good and nearly perfectly in place.

Janelle pointed her wand toward the inside of the beaker and said, "Cibus Revelio". After a brief wait, Janelle's soil mixture began to turn red. Okaaay, time to check the notes again. It seemed that the soil did not have enough carbon. She was going to get to do a little massage therapy. Janelle didn't mind getting her hands dirty, literally and figuratively.
Thinking about how she was going to get everything done, Janelle made a decision. She would stay put and do her soil massage first. Then she would head back to her marked off area to plant her grafted plant. There was no use in going there first and having to come back again. It was all about saving time and getting the job done correctly. She still had much to do and the professor had already given them a time warning. Janelle double checked what she needed to do and prepared to get started.
