When the students and professors arrive at their destination, they are surrounded by what truly looks like a wasteland. Cracked, dusty earth, a dull brown in color, puffs up with dust when anyone steps down on the ground. The shapes of the cracks in the ground resemble a tortoise shell, and all around them...for miles, is nothing. Absolutely nothing. Birds do not fly by, there are no animals in sight, and the dense quiet that surrounds them was truly eerie.
This land, ruined in some way by muggles, was for all intents and purposes a desert. The soil was unusable, if you could call the hard ground soil at all.
It is YOUR job, as a student attending this field trip, to do everything in your power to help this land get healthy again! The plants grafted in Herbology from before Christmas are off to the side, just waiting to be planted. A small tent is located next to the potted trees, and inside this tent is a box of supplies that Professor Flamsteed procured for some good ole’ fashioned soil analysis! Professor Moxley has provided some muggle tools to help with the planting stuff as well! So enjoy your LOVELY uniforms...and let’s get to work! Professor Myers has some topical potions to prevent sunburn! So get your potion and let’s gooooo!

Soil Analysis
SPOILER!!: Steps
Located inside the tent you will find the following materials to be used for soil analysis: vials of identifying solution (presently clear will turn colors), plastic beakers, trowels, and small jars of powdered carbon. To perform a complete soil analysis you must perform the following steps:
collect a trowel full of dirt and add to a beaker
pour 1 cup of the solution into the beaker with the dirt and swirl it around 5 times clockwise
point your wand at the mixture and say “Cibus Revelio” (solution will turn colors to indicate what that particular area needs most). The area has been sealed off and approved by the Ministry for underage wizards to perform magic.
based on the color change, administer appropriate restoration effort
blue : plant a grafted plant (see directions below)
yellow : plant cabbage saplings (see directions below)
red : mix one tablespoon powdered carbon in with the soil sample and massage the solution back into the ground with your hands.
brown/remains unchanged: nothing needs done
overlapping colors
: at the digression of the RPer
A minimum of 4 posts is required for this activity (preferably 2 posts in 2 different areas of the map)
Planting the Grafted Trees
SPOILER!!: Steps
The trees the grafted from the beginning of term are in a clump located on the right. This task requires a few steps in order to be considered completed. No magic is to be used during this portion. Use shovels, wear gloves, and keep hydrated as your work! These are still relatively small trees, but not as baby as they were in the beginning of term. Keep in the mind the grafted trees should only be planted where the ground is in need of NITROGEN [blue areas].The steps are as followed:
Digging hole (with shovel)
Unpotting tree
Placing tree in ground
Recovering with dirt (with shovel)
Watering the tree once it’s in the ground
Have fun with this and interact with each other! Minimum of 2 posts required!
Planting Cabbage
SPOILER!!: Steps
On the opposite side of where the trees are located are a whole plow of cabbage saplings waiting to be planted in the ground! The cabbages are for ground where nitrogen is too rich because cabbages help reduce nitrogen in soil. Planting these plants is pretty similar planting the trees with slight differences. There are also some buckets of compost to help the cabbage and soil in these areas [yellow areas]. The cabbages are in biodegradable pots. The steps are as followed:
Digging the hole (using a spade this time, cabbages are little!)
Mix compost into the soil in the hole
Wet the cabbage
Tear the bottom off of biodegradable pot
Place cabbage in the hole
Fill in hole
Water those baby cabbages!
Again, have fun with this! Get messy, interact with each other, ask questions, complain. Minimum of 2 posts required!

Skin properly sun screened, Tenacius bolted for the tent where they had to get their stuff. He was so eager to see if there was a moon rover or a speeder or SOMETHING exciting....
... But all he saw were planting things.
Sighs. And he was so excited on being a planetary explorer today.
BUT he can make like he was EXPLORING eh? Explorers still did explorey things and collect samples. So that’s what he'll pretend to be doing. And off he goes grabbing the stuffs and the instructions and --oh hey there Frank N. Stein! His Grafticon that he worked on earlier that term. "Glad to see ya buddy! Lookin good" he greeted his plant, patting its slim trunk as if it was its shoulder. "I am in need of a flag bearer and YOU just fit the bill perfectly!" he beamed. Because its tall(ish) and slim see? Its totally a flag that would help him leave his mark!
And off he goes, heading out to the great blue yonder....

Ariadne had tested the soil and mixed it back into the ground with the solution AND she'd planted a grafted tree. The only thing she hadn't done was plant a cabbage sapling. She was starting to kind of put together some kind of cycle that, when cycling properly, would restore this environment back to how it was supposed to be.
She sighed and looked around the area, spotting another girl (Elsa) nearby. She looked like she was having a time of it, and truth be told, Ariadne was starting to, as well. Maybe it was time for a water break before she tried to plant any cabbages, and she'd also see if Elsa needed some help, too.
"Hey," she said to the other girl, stopping often to breath slowly in the heat. "Do you need any help? I'm finished planting the tree, and all I have left to do is to plant some cabbages. I can help you finish up here first if you want." While she waited for a reply, she helped herself to some water, enjoying the refreshing feel of it as it went down.

So instructions said they were to test the soil and if they found Nitrogen deprived ground then he and Frank and stake their claim on that hallowed ground. But the instructions also gave other details about other types of soil. But then he thought his Grafticon wouldn’t be very happy there. And he didn’t want Frank to be unhappy. Decepticons not allowed!
So their aim, Explorer and Grafticon, was to find the PERFECT home. And they had a bucketful of stuff to help them do just that.
He walked some ways away from the rest of the students, so much so that the tent now looked like a waving tea towel in the blue sky. "Aight Frank, lets see if this spot is our spot eh?" he said as he set up his base of operations... Aka he brought out all his stuff, dumped them on the ground then upturned his bucket so he had a makeshift table. See, who says Gryffindors are haphazard people?
Grabbing a trowel, he went digging digging digging. He wanted to get to the real dirt see? Not the surface stuff that could possibly have been contaminated by something else. When he's gotten the good dirt, he shoveled enough into the beaker and then promptly poured in the measured out solution. "Its almost like making hot chocolate in the morning Frank..." the Gryffindor said as he stirred the solution, watching the brown particles spin around madly as he counted....one...two..... three....... four.... five.
.... Ok so maybe its not much like chocolate drink. But that thought is now implanted in Tenacius' head and under the heat of that unforgiving sun, he now wants a nice cold chocolate milkshake. He looked around if there was something like that he could make a dash for. Ugh.... Desert as far as the eye could see. If he got lucky the most they'd have around here was blue milk. Life in the Outer Rim territories kinda sucks after all.
But stirring was done and now it was time for magic! He grabbed his Alder wood, gave it a knowing glance to please not pull any surprises today then uttered the spell "Cibus Revelio"

Kitty went back to the tent and carefully read the instructions for how to plant a grafted tree. This time she would not have to go back and red instructions again because these instructions were fairly easy to understand and she did more than just skim them.
Okay, first step was digging, which was probably going to be a big problem. Hard physical stuff like digging just wasn't her thing. Back at home she had once tried to dig a hole in her backyard but had given up after a few tries.
Taking one of the smaller shovels, Kitty approached her area and stuck it into the ground. Then she tried pushing down, and when that didn't work she tried climbing on top of it to force it down. Still it only budged an inch, causing her to scream in frustration.

"I'm Elsa, and I'll be your friend forever if you help me finish this planting and I'll help you with the cabbages of course!" she lowered the tree into the ground, struggling to balance it's height, glad there was someone to help her. It was not that big of a tree, after all it was still growing, but Elsa wasn't very tall herself, so it represented quite a challenge.
After that was done, she knelt on the ground to start and cover it's roots with dirt, using her shovel, scooting over so her new friend could help her. This was much easier when done in pairs, thank Merlin that Ariadne offered to help her. "So..." she began as they worked together under the blazing sun "...which house are you from?"

She took her own shovel and helped shovel the dirt around the tree. "I still have my watering can," she said, reaching down and picking it up. She then tilted it toward the tree and gave it a good watering. "I think that's it. Are you ready to plant the cabbages now?"

With a place to start and the needed supplies as directed by the instructions, Olivia knelt down on the ground to begin working. The offered suit certainly had its positives in that respect as she didn’t have to worry about moving and getting around on ground and potentially dirty in a skirt. With that being said, she laid what she had on the rough ground around her before picking up the tough. With it, she scooped up a collection of dirt, mildly surprised to find it looked a little better underneath the surface. Healthier even, if that was possible with this environment.
Nevertheless, the Ravenclaw added it to the beaker before picking up the vial and unstoppering it so she could use it. Then Olivia scourgified a measuring cup and measured out one cup before adding it too to the beaker before swirling it around. One…two…three…four…five times clockwise as directed. What was next? Oh…a spell…right! “Sibelus Revelio!” she cast with her wand in the beaker.

.... And just as the spell left his lips, the beaker turned blood red.
He was startled so much that he nearly dropped the beaker. Hobbling Hinkypunks his mud chocolate turned into blood! Did he just make like a biblical prophet? Will locusts start flying in from the sky???
He looked at his wand and frooooowned. "I told you not to pull anything crazy today wand!" he muttered as he frantically looked at the instructions clipboard. He wanted his solution to turn BLUE so he and Frank can stake their claim! But now the solution turned into bloody and he was really starting to despise his wand and--
-- oh waitaminute. There was something here that says what he should do if the solution turned red. "So it’s a thing?" he mumbled as he read some more. "....Mix one tablespoon powdered carbon in with the soil sample and massage the solution back into the ground with your hands...."
Ohhhh clay making time. Kinda.
He looked at his wand and gave it an apologetic smirk and set it back in its holster. So a table spoon of powdered carbon? In it goes. Stir stir stir and.... The red stopped being red? It was kinda brown now, but a darker shade of brown. Uhhhh.... So did that mean it worked?
He looked at the instructions again and then shrugged. All it says was make like a fun little clay pile with this murky former-bloody solution. So that the leonine lad did, pouring the solution back into the ground and FUN TIME!
Werk it werk it the whoooole thing into the ground. Now he had a nice clay pile in front of him. And then he had a thought, TWO thoughts actually.
First he grabbed a fistful of the clay and started forming it into something that vaguely resembles a horse. This was a family tradition see, specially in places where it was their first time going there. His thoughts drifted to his folks. He cant wait to show them this Outer Rim territory horsie!
Then he moved into his next thought, which was to smoothen out this muddy hole in the ground into something worth remembering. Stake his claim like he said he would yeah? Smooth smooth smooth smooth smoooooth. Then SLAP! Down goes his hands onto the mud.
And then just sign it off, collect his new horsie and he would be on his way.

Okay, so now that he had swirled the dirt and stuff around a bit, it looked like very watery mud. Jaemin tilted the beaker to look at it a little closer, humming to himself softly; now it was time for him to do the spell, which... he had never done before. He wrinkled his nose, taking out his wand, and looked at all the other students. He could hear them casting the spell, and it seemed to be working for them, so... he could make it work too.
"Cibus Revelio..." he repeated the spell several times to make sure he was saying it correctly before pointing his wand at the beaker. "Okay dirt... tell me what's wrong with you. Cibus Revelio!"
For a long moment, the soil seemed undecided as to what it was going to do. It just stayed brown and dirt-coloured. But then... Jaemin tilted his head and looked at it pointedly, watching as the tint slowly grew brighter and brighter until it was a very obvious blue. Which meant he had to plant one of the hybrid trees, yes? He got to plant his tree!
The diminutive Slytherin left his beaker and stuff where it was to mark his spot, popped up to his feet, and took off to where the trees were, excitedly looking from pot to pot to find the one labeled with his name from earlier in the term. He wanted to plant his special tree first!

After a somewhat rocky landing, Scarlett had gotten to her feet again and brushed the dirt off of her jumpsuit. Her hair had at least stayed up in a nice bun on top of her head, which was good. Not that it would matter, as she was sure she'd be sweating up a storm soon doing this whole farming stuff. At least she'd get a good workout in!
First things first - soil analysis. That didn't seem to hard. Take some soil, pop it in the solution and do the spell, then plant the correct plant. Easy enough. Heading towards the right of the camp and moving up, past a few groups of students who were already well into their analysis, she found a nice, undisturbed spot and took a sampling of soil from that area. At least, if you could CALL it soil - she wasn't sure how ANYTHING was going to be able to grow from this stuff. Sad face.

"It's super hot, I don't really enjoy this much sun you know!" Elsa squinted her eyes looking at Ariadne as she helped her stabilize the plant. Elsa's eyes, being light, were quite sensitive to the sun's brightness as were her cheeks and nose bridge which were getting red-ish pink now. "I know, I tried to carry it by myself but it kept falling on my face or worse.. that's why I'm so glad you're helping!" then they were back to shoveling. Shovel, shovel, shovel, and done!
"Thank you, really" Elsa said with a tired sigh, opening her water bottle and drinking some more. At the rate she could feel sweat drip down her back, she was sure she was getting slightly dehydrated. Ariadne watered the plant, and Elsa felt a smile spread on her lips looking at it on it's new home. "Look at that, we're giving life back to earth!".
She then gathered her things and walked the short distance to where her friend was planting cabbages. "Yes!" she answered, retrieving once more her notebook to check the necessary steps "digging a hole, mix compost into the soil - yuck! - wet cabbage, tear the bottom off, place thingy in the holly, fill it.. water" she murmured as she read. Maybe they could split up the shores?
She scratched her nose with the back of her hand, failing miserably on trying to prevent dirt, mud and everything else to get on her face. It was like she was ready for war. Well, at least the burning sensation on part of her face was gone, mud felt reaaaally cool. That gave her an idea.
"Maybe you can start on the hole while I go get some compost mix?" she suggested, wrinkling her nose, making a funny face as she rubbed some more mud on the bridge of her nose as if it were sunscreen. Hopefully the compost mix wasn't a smelly one. But why did they have to do all this by hand? "Why does this all have to be done by hand? Wouldn't it be easier, quicker and much more effective if we could dig the holes and stuff using magic?" she asked, directed to the teachers who were nearby, flaunting her muddy face as she got up to pick up the compost.

Okay.. She had swirled it five times clockwise! And sure enough it looked like it was enough to mix it up! Contended with the mix, the young Ravenclaw pointed her wand at the plastic beaker, which was still resting on the desolate ground in the shade made by her body and said "Cibus Revelio!"
She peered at it watching at it turned colors and finally turned
Yellow!
Right! That meant cabbages??
Okay! Azura stuck a trowel in the dirt to mark where she was before trudging back towards the tents to collect all she needed for planting cabbages!

Time to move on, right? Dot gave her newly planted tree a little pat before moving off in a random direction. Most of her classmates were still generally grouped near their arrival site, so Dot paced off five steps away from then. Ten steps. Fifteen. And now she was relatively alone.
Trowel still in hand, Dot scooped up dirt and dropped it into her beaker. Maybe this soil was healthy, although it seemed unlikely. The dirt was baked and useless... if it was healthy, then something would be able to grow here. A blade of grass. A flower. Even moss.
It had taken him a good few minutes to find his own tree, but he had done it. Hani had grown a lot too! The small boy carefully carried her back over to where he had left his stuff, wobbling a little with the effort. She wasn't anywhere near too big to carry, but she was still more cumbersome than she had been months ago. He set her down as gently as possible and gave her a happy pat on the leaves before zooming off after a shovel. He had to dig a hole!
This part took... way too much effort. It was a good thing he'd brought his gloves with him, because digging holes could soooo give you a blister. The small Slytherin pulled on the gloves quickly, then squinted at the ground and tapped it with his foot before sticking the shovel into one of the cracks; that would be easiest, right? Just... jamming it on in there? He held onto the shovel handle, fingers tightening around it, and jumped on it.
The shovel did not sink nearly far enough into the hardened earth for him to stay upright, and Jaemin found himself unceremoniously falling to one side. He yelped, hopping off the shovel and getting his feet on the ground to keep from flopping into a little pile of Upset Slytherin. Whyyyyy was the dirt so hard and packed. That was just WRONG.
"Listen," he mumbled, picking up the shovel and leaning down to talk to the earth. "I need to make a hole for Hani! Let me do it. You'll be thankful later."
He jammed the shovel in the crack again, and with a bit more caution he repeated the jumping... this time, it did sink in further, and the top layer of baked earth cracked as the blade of the shovel pushed down. It wasn't time for celebrating, though! Jaemin had a hole to dig.
Aaaaaaaand dig dig dig dig dig he did. His naturally ridiculous energy allowed him to do this fairly quickly, though it was hot and he was sweaty by the time the hole was big enough for the tree. For all the effort, the hole was small by most standards, but the ground was just so haaaaard. Thank goodness it was over... he plopped down next to his hole and reached for his tree, hugging her gently again before he veeeeeeery carefully removed her from her pot.
"You get a new home, and you get to make everything all better. You'll like it here. This place is perfect for you, it needs you a lot." He made sure the roots were going to fit, and not be all mushed up, before lowering his grafty tree into the ground; when he was absolutely sure Hani was standing perfectly upright, he sighed and picked up the shovel to scoop the hard, crackly dirt back in around her.
A quick "aguamenti" when he was done patting the dirt into place, and Hani was successfully replanted. Jaemin scooped up her labeled pot and hugged it some more.

Too much to hope there was nothing wrong with her plot of land. As Dot pointed her wand at the beaker of muddy water and spoke the incantation, "Cibus Revelio", the water drifted almost casually from brown to beige to sienna to mustard yellow.
Yellow. So no saplings this time around, right? Dot lifted the water to eye level and glared at it before pocketing her trowel and stomping back in the direction of the other students. Yellow meant too much nitrogen, and while there was something to be done about it, it still meant she'd found yet another problem area.

Taking the vial that she'd collected the dirt in, she settled down on the ground (something she had no problem doing since she was wearing this nifty suit to protect her clothes) and added the solution. Then, she swirled it five times clockwise as instructed...one, two, three, four, five. There. Nice and easy. She assumed she'd done it right, since it still looked like muddy water. She had a feeling it wasn't going to look any different no matter what she did.
Next, she took out her wand and pointed it at the beaker. "Cibus Revelio!" she exclaimed. Slowly, the solution started to turn dark and...red. Yes, it was red! That was easy! So that meant...she took a second to check her notes. Not enough carbon in the soil. Alright, she didn't even have to plant anything!
Taking her sample, she gathered a tablespoon of powdered carbon from the supplies they'd been given and mixed it back in with her solution. Slowly, the red faded and it became a yucky murky brown once again. She then headed over to the spot she'd originally harvested the soil from and knelt down, dumping the test tube full of solution back into the small hole she made and then massaging it back in to the ground. She couldn't imagine ONE tablespoon of carbon would make THAT much of a difference but...it was a small start, she supposed.

Maybe they could split up the shores?
She scratched her nose with the back of her hand, failing miserably on trying to prevent dirt, mud and everything else to get on her face. It was like she was ready for war. Well, at least the burning sensation on part of her face was gone, mud felt reaaaally cool. That gave her an idea.
"Maybe you can start on the hole while I go get some compost mix?" she suggested, wrinkling her nose, making a funny face as she rubbed some more mud on the bridge of her nose as if it were sunscreen. Hopefully the compost mix wasn't a smelly one. But why did they have to do all this by hand? "Why does this all have to be done by hand? Wouldn't it be easier, quicker and much more effective if we could dig the holes and stuff using magic?" she asked, directed to the teachers who were nearby, flaunting her muddy face as she got up to pick up the compost.
Ariadne shrugged. "It doesn't bother me that much. My family's big Quidditch fans. We're kind of used to being out in the Sun--player or fan," she said. Ariadne nodded in response when Elsa told her she was glad she was helping. Then she remembered a question the girl had asked her, and for some reason, she'd forgotten to respond. "I'm a Slytherin, by the way. I'm Ariadne Greingoth." She'd ask the girl for her name and house, but she just assumed she would tell her on her own now.
"Yeah, sure," Ariadne said, grabbing a spade and starting on the hole. She made two--one for her own plant and one for Elsa's plant. She was pretty sure the land needed both of them. She glanced up at Elsa and added, "Probably because this class is a combination of classes, and Muggle Studies is one of them." She looked around the land. "I'm pretty sure finding the location and all was part of Muggle Studies, too, though."
When the compost was gathered and at their sides, Ariadne turned toward it with a gloved hand. She scooped up some of the compost and began mixing it into the soil in the hole. This kind of stuff didn't really bother her. Neither one of her parents were worried about getting messy with magic, so she wasn't either. Even her dad, the former Minister of Magic, didn't mind getting dirty out on the Quidditch pitch.

Casually making his rounds about the work site inspecting student's work, the astronomy professor chuckled at the Slytherin's inquiry. "Because muggle studies," he mused with an obnoxious wink. Taking the opportunity to check his sundial watch, the astronomer looked up and cupped his hand around his mouth to make an announcement.
"YOU HAVE ONE HOUR LEFT!"

As soon as she had gotten her bearing back after the slightly rough landing, Esme dusted off her uniform and touched up her hair. One had to have nice looking hair even while terraforming. Great. She was turning into her sister.
Laughing to herself at the thought, she looked around her surroundings. First things first: Soil Analysis. Seemed easy enough to her and she understood the importance of it - all of the tasks that they were going to perform were essential and it made her really happy to know that she was getting the opportunity to be a part of it. The thought of doing good in the world made Esme really happy. The planet NEEDED this.
The instructions seemed simple enough, and after grabbing everything that she needed, Esme headed out of the tent and towards the small group of people who were already working on collecting samples. Smiling at the people around her, she set about getting to work. Seemed that any location was good as any other, so she stuck her trowel in a random location and added the dirt that she had collected into the beaker.

He was grinning for ear to ear feeling quite accomplished already. Yeah sure his hands were very muddy and was starting to harden under the heat, but there was a spring to his step as he went to look for another spot where his Grafticon can make its mark.
He's walked pretty much at the opposite side of where he was. This couldn’t possibly be a place where the soil would turn bloody again would it? He looked at his plant and said "Frank tell me where we should strike ground." and he held the Grafticon aloft, swishing it this way and that as if the plant was sniffing the air for the right spot. Aha! Frank found it! And the Gryffindor was tugged a few more paces to the left.
"Here Frank?" he looked around and.... Well heck the ground looked pretty much the same as the last one he dug into, but now of course is far more memorable than another arid cracks on the ground. He The plant shook its slim branches in affirmation and to that Tenacius set up shop again.
So dig he went, deep deep into the ground to get the good dirt, and a trowelful of this he popped into a fresh beaker. In goes another cup of that solution and he counted down the stirring. Oh man he really REALLY wants that nice cold chocolate milkshake now...
His muddy hands has really hardened up now, so yeah he had to swipe it off on his pants. He didn’t really want to do that on his beloved NASA jumpsuit but he sure wouldn’t want to use his wand with hands caked with filth. Who knows what else his wand would do if it was handled all muddied-like.
So now he takes his wand and utters the spell again "Cibus Revelio" slightly wincing. Please don’t be red please don’t be red….
And the muddy solution suddenly turned blue
"Frank we've struck gold!" the curly top leaped up and started dancing around his potted plant like a lunatic. "Blue gold boy lookit!" he thrusted the beaker at the Grafticon. The plant shook with glee. Yes it was the plant, the slight breeze had nothing to do with it.

Getting comfortable on the ground - which she had no problem doing - Esme carefully poured a cup of the solution to her beaker of dirt. Once it had been added she swirled it around five times clockwise while making sure that nothing spilled out. No need to be overenthusiastic at a time like this. As she mixed the soil and solution together she muttered the incantation over and over again in her head so that she would get it right when it came time to cast the spell.
Pointing her wand at the beaker she said, Cibus Revelio."
At first Esme didn't see anything happening; the colour remained as brown as ever. Tilting her head to the side, however, she saw a distinctive yellow tint forming. That meant that she had to plant baby cabbage, right?

Waiting was always the most boring part of anything that had to be done. Thankfully this time the waiting game didn't require her to wait all that long. Within just moments the contents inside the beaker which was still in her hand began to turn a bright vivid shade of blue. This was supposed to mean that the current area on which she was kneeling was in deed in need of nitrogen.
Lucky her.
Hady was going to get to plant herself a tree today. Digging was in store for her. A fair deal of it too by the looks of it. The muggle way. It was going to require true work on her part which was fine by her. A little dirt and sweat wouldn't hurt her, just so she was able to get a nice hot shower once they headed back after this was finished.
Leaving her beaker and things were they were she rose to feet and made her way over to where the trees were kept. She would have to gather up what she needed before she could do anything else.

Lalalala.... he really had NO interest in testing soil samples, like, sorry, but there were better things to do with his life.
Instead!.... he made it LOOK like he was testing soil samples.
Using the trowel he dug some of the dry rocky dirt into the testing thing and added the solution. How much? A lot of it... and what did he do next? He swilled it, around and around and around and around. Knowing he was supposed to cast SOMETHING on it, Zeke produced his wand and instead cast a silent and sneaky Colour Changing Charm, effectively turning the soil sample BLUE!
Well would you look at that!
Looking busy, and because he was curious, Zeke took his powdered carbon thing and sprinkled some of it around the dirt-patch where he'd dug. Like... that was it right? And to make it stick maybe a sprinkling of water too? He could do that. "Aguamenti," he cast, looking proud of himself as he wet the space.

So, that was embarrassing "O-Of course course professor, how silly of me" the stuttered, quickly taking the compost back to Ariadne. Shame! It was pretty obvious that one, Elsa wished she had learned to think before speaking. Hey... she thought to herself, we could learn the theory about muggle and still do the hard work with a wand no?. No silly.
Seeing has she had already dug the holes, Elsa busied herself adding compost and mixing it. "Oh, nice to meet you Ariadne, we're in the same house!" she chirped after a few moments of silent work. Greingoth. That sounded familiar, yet Elsa couldn't remember where she had heard it before "Have we met before? I think I've heard your name somewhere?" But that was highly unlikely, after all Elsa came from Portugal only this year, and all the vacations she had spent in the country before were short and mostly at her grandparents house.
After making sure the ground was nicely mixed with compost, Elsa picked up each cabbage, carefully and made sure they were wet before tearing the bottom of the biodegradable pot and passing them along to Ariadne to place them in the hole.
She then started placing the dirt back around the plants. They had been at this for a couple of hours now and Elsa's face was red from the sun, her hands even though they wore protective gloves, were a mess from before, when she didn't use the protective gloves. Her hair was all over the place but she felt happy. They had done something good to this place. Looking around, it looked a little more alive!

Janelle went into the tent to gather her needed supplies. Apparently, soil analysis required a lot of stuff. As she picked up all of the things she needed, Janelle tried to think of this as a fun task. She smiled to herself, when she thought how much her Herbologist in training sister would have enjoyed this field trip.
Now that she had everything, Janelle needed to find a good spot for analyzing. She walked around, surveying the ground, until she found a place she deemed worthy. On and on she went, until she randomly found the spot she wanted. Janelle wondered how this area ever got to be in such bad shape. Looking down and the barren, cracked earth, she tried to imagine it lush and green. That pretty much stretched her imagination to the limit. Bending down, Janelle set her supplies on the ground and prepared to analyze the soil beneath her.
