Default Arithmancy Lesson 2

Unusually, Professor Tanner is standing in the corridor awaiting your arrival. She smiles and greets you, eager student that you are. As you step into the Arithmancy classroom-

Wait. Is this the Arithmancy classroom?

You appear to have entered a giant arena. Large wooden obstacles are whirring about at seemingly random intervals in likewise random paths. Metal grate platforms and towers are spaced in strategic locations. Pits filled with mud, areas of dense fog, passages in complete darkness, and many other dangers lurk.

Enter if you dare.

OOC: No, her footsteps aren't silent. Yes, you can hear her breathing. She's not a superhero, so your charrie could potentially be warned of her presence. Just because Tiara sends a spell at you doesn't mean it has to hit you. But sometimes getting caught is half the fun! Play it however you want. Also, surprise! If your charrie gets hit, they join Tiara's team! But they don't know that yet... She'll tell them once they're hit.

When she explained what they were doing, he stood very still and stared at her, even more confused. This was totally a Defence class thing what was going on-

AND THEN THE PROFESSOR WAS MOSTLY INVISIBLE AND OH MERLIN THEY HAD TO HIDE.

Even though it wasn't really Defence class, his instincts immediately kicked in. The small boy's eyes went wide and he fumbled for a moment, looking around hurriedly before taking off further into the weird arena, skirting around mud holes and other things as he searched for a place to hide. Because hiding and staying hidden was totally the best way to survive stuff like this.

Well, she may have said three minutes, but... one and a half was enough, yes? Tiara was off, and she had never said she would have her eyes closed while they hid. She knew right where Jaemin was hiding.

She stalked him easily and found him still running. She sent a nonverbal spell his way.

ACK!

Now the Professor was invisible!

Oooonhhhhkay...

Three minutes was not enough! She needed a good twenty due to the fact that she wouldn't be able to walk or seeeeee!! She needed to see.. It was sort of important.

She bit her lip as she slowly started to pick her way across the arena.. Find a good hiding spot hmm? How about just a safe place to walk? She bit her lip as she walked towards the fog.. Maybe it might be good camouflage?

Tiara's next stop was to hit the fog. She knew someone would find it a good cover. Hastening her steps, her spell shot into the fog with no particular aim.

As the class had started, Ava listened to the Professor... Oh, they're gonna do a hide and seek today? Coolness! The young lioness looked around... Well, it's quite difficult to find a perfect spot to hide around here. Not to mention that so many weakness points in some spots and now... The Professor had disillusioned herself. Great! This kinda reminded her with Professor Dakest's class last term. Okay, now she had to hide... but where it should be? Ava looked around and thought that.... Yeah, maybe it would be better to walk to the dark alleys and hide there.

Next stop, dark alley. Quiet as a feather, she snuck around a barrier and shot off a spell into the alley.

This was was an unusual way to be learning but it was a lovely change and Rachel was looking forward to it.

The first year watched in surprise as Tanner vanished or rather, blended in with the surroundings. Three minutes to hide? "Come on, Haddie,'' Rachel called and moved towards the obstacles. She was aiming to hide behind one of the towers. She gracefully edged around a pile of mud and then moved purposely away from some fog.

Luckily the tower was not very far away. She and Haddie could hide there, if Haddie chose to follow her.

That night she'd cast the spell without a single issue, and it had been easy and she hasn't been able to cast it since. No matter how much she tried to cast it, she remained perfectly visible. And she had tried a lot.

Stupid advanced magic.

Rachel's voice pulled Hadley away from her pining at the charm Professor Tanner had, successfully of course, cast on herself. The blonde nodded and followed after her best friend...until she was sure they were out of earshot of the professor. "Rachel, wait." Hadley crept silently over to her best friend, eyeing the fog that Rachel seemed determine to avoid. Fog so thick, you couldn't see anything through it. Fog that would put them on equal footing as Tanner...

Hadley wasn't sure where Rachel was heading, but by the looks of it, the tower maybe. And then what? Should Tanner check out the towers looking for students, they'd be trapped and easy pickings. "Let's be smart about this...I think we should hide in a fog bank, or one of the alleys." Provided, of course, that said alley didn't dead end. "
She won't be able to see us in either of those. She'll have to rely on sound, same as us, to find us. We'll be on equal footing.
"

Tiara had seen Rachel run towards one of the towers. No doubt Haddie would follow at some point. Deciding to have a little fun with them, she sent a Patronus off in that direction, figuring the sound would spook them into moving.

This was going to a lesson where they had to hide and keep from being caught? How did this have anything to do with Arithmancy? Not much she didn't think but it sounded like fun anyways.

They got a head start of three minutes and had to last for ten. It sounded easy but Hady knew it wasn't going to be. Not when the professor was invisible and you had no clue where it was you were going. Also no magic! Chewing her lip her thought the fifth year was already trying to come up with ideas. Nothing was coming to her though and she wasn't ready when the call of their head start was called out.

Taking a deep breath she wandered off into the path of some of the obstacles. She might have a harder time keeping herself from getting hit with something but at least she might be able to see it. Slowly moving forwards she made her way towards the mud pits, towers and darkness. Whatever came at her she would just have to deal with in the moment.

After her Patronus stunt, she headed off to the other side of the arena, purposefully being careless about her footfalls. As she ran, she randomly shot Impediment Jinxes, hoping one would come close to someone and spook them. She thought she spotted someone, but maybe not.

Time to hit the towers next. Quiet as a whisper, she avoided a moving obstacle and made it to the base. Impedimenta! she thought, shooting a silent spell towards where she thought she saw someone.

Then things started happening...FAST. What was going on?! Ariadne wasn't even sure if she'd gotten the FULL directions before the professor had vanished from view and was apparently after them. Since she didn't know what was out there or what the professor had in store for them, Ariadne figured the best way to survive for now would be to get away from the general view.

So she wondered over toward the obstacles, edging away from anything dangerous, and hid from view.

From her vantage point atop a tower, Tiara spotted the back of a girl. She thought it might be Ariadne, but it was hard to tell. Aiming carefully, she sent a spell near the girl, hoping to miss by a few feet. After all, no one wanted to lose this early.

Because as Tanner just demonstrated, the disillusionment charm was perfect for vanishing and hiding and would take no longer than a minute to cast ... leaving her two minutes to find a decent hiding spot for ten minutes.

Deciding to go for it, but also deciding to cast it non-verbally on herself, the head girl quickly vanished from view and then stashed her wand away to not be tempted to use it for the remainder of the activity. She then slowly - as to not fall or make a sound - made her way from her platform towards a hiding spot underneath the platform. Even though Tanner had said mud pits would slow her down, Tia actually considered for a brief second diving into one of them as she'd be well hidden there too . . .

She left her spot on the tower and once again headed for a different spot in the arena. Tiara continued sending random spells around as she ran, trying to pick likely hiding spots. Maybe she'd get lucky?

No, Browne. No wand.

....

He could do it though, hide and seek had been something he was good at in his youth - more so because the stakes of being found were quite high. Still, he was motivated to succeed.

The one thing he figured, was he needed to use the environment. Without magic, that and his body was all he had, but his body would do him little good with Professor Tanner disillusioned and armed. Merlin.

What was most troubling was he felt he had to pick the lesser evil, whichever that was.

He COULD succumb to the mud pit and coat himself in the substance, but it would slow him down and he wasn't confident that it would be 90% effective let alone 100%. The blinding fog would restrict his senses, but it would also restrict Tanner's, and seeing as she was already advantaged where the gift of sight was concerned, this didn't seem a bad idea.

...

Therefore, it was decided he would take his refuge in the blinding fog.

Ready or not... we were trying to hide!

It was a strange sensation, suddenly being without sight. He didn't like it per se, but he could still hear, and while he couldn't FEEL everyone's presence, he had a sense of whether others were moving close to him. If he was concealed by the fog, and blind, then surely... she too would have to sacrifice her ability to see.

She decided to hit another spot of the fog. She inched her way into the area, unsure of what she'd find. It was possible there was a solid shape in there... She sent a silent spell soaring.

Esme liked it.

Fascinated, she listened with rapt attention as Professor Tanner explained how things worked. Basically it seemed to be a game of hide and seek. Hide and seek for adventure seekers that is. The Gryffindors must be having a field day. Snort. This would be a lot of fun for her too and it wouldn't be TOO hard to abstain from using magic. It wasn't as if Esme wasn't used to doing things without a wand. Granted said things didn't usually contain vast amounts of fog...

Eyes widening slightly as the Professor disappeared from view - how awesome was that? - she set about finding a good spot to hide. Pairing up seemed unwise and not really her style, so she was going this alone. So long as she didn't fall into a hidden pit of death everything would be good. It would really suck to be disqualified before the game had even began. She was doing things cautiously for the moment.

Side-stepping any obstacles in her path, Esme situated herself near one of the towers, using some of the fog as camaflauge. Hopefully this would work...

After the fog, Tiara made her way towards another of the towers. Not being able to see her body, she was more clumsy than normal and accidentally ran into one of the moving obstacles. She sent a jinx up towards the top the a grate, but if anyone was hiding there they likely would have moved after they heard her get hit.

Azura had just made it into the fog when she tripped over.. Nothing.. At least not that she could see. Cause you know.. Fog.

She landed flat on her face and groaned a little, thankfully she had put her hands down this time!! She started to crawl forward now, cause uhh..she had issues walking when she could fully see, but now.. Not being able to see made it impossible for her to keep her balance!

She thought she heard footsteps behind her and she started to crawl faster, but..

Ack!!

The spell hit her!! Ughhhhhhh

She was out!!

Hoorrayyyyyy!! Maybe she could go sit quietly now in safety,,

"Professor? You got me! Where are you?"

Still in fog here!

It was sheer luck that had Jaemin looking over his shoulder as the jet of light burst to life. The small boy knew that, really, you weren't supposed to look back when running, because people could catch up to you a lot easier then. But when it came to magic... well, they didn't have to catch up to you. They just had to have good aim. And professors, as it were, had very good aim.

The small Slytherin let out a quiet yelp and immediately hit the ground. The spell cleared him, barely, before he shot back up to his feet and took off again, away from where the light had come from, this time heading for one of the pitch-black alleyway openings. He couldn't see the professor... but that didn't mean that she should be allowed to see him all that easily, either.

For a moment, Ariadne was stuck with no idea where to go. Everybody seemed to have disappeared somewhere. She really wished she'd thought to partner up with somebody early on. It was too late for that. So...where to now?

She looked out throughout the arena, surveying her options and trying to decide where to go. She seemed to be in the right place, because she could see the spell being cast all around her. Someone even got hit. Ouch. That was early on.

...and then something darted toward her and crashed with the floor just two feet away from her. She jumped, realizing it was the spell. She'd nearly been HIT! Either the professor was a really bad aim, or she was just trying to scare Ariadne. She'd bet it was the second one...and if it was, the plan had worked.

So she had to get out of her hiding place.

Also, what did this have to do with Arithmancy? There had to be something Ariadne hadn't thought of yet. What was it, though? She dashed out of the shadows and into an alley. MERLIN. Who knew WHAT was waiting here. She had no idea where this was going and could only assume more clues were coming, so she moved further down the alley, disappeared into more shadows, and waited.

Default Haddie and Tanner!
~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.

The tower was drawing closer but Haddie had stopped her. Rachel turned to her best friend, her eyes travelling to the fog that she so dearly wanted to avoid. But as she thought it over, she decided that Haddie may have a very good idea. Now that she thought of it, the tower was one of the logical places where they would hide and could easily be found. She quickly nodded and whispered, "Let's go. I think the fog is a good idea.''

The Eagle carefully tottered off towards the fog and not a moment too soon. She had seen the Patronus, bright and silvery, zoom towards the tower she and Haddie had been going towards. "That was close!'' she whispered as she watched from among the fog. "You don't think the fog will eventually vanish, do you, Haddie?''

It seemed like she made a good call for choosing to hide in dark alleys. The Professor wouldn't gonna come here and find her, right? HEHEHE. Ten minutes wasn't really a long time so she could survive this. Yup yup yup!!!

She heard some students had been caught... Oh no. Maybe she should move? No, she shouldn't do that. It would just making her getting caught easier. Maybe she should.... walk further across this dark alley. Ava kept looking back while she walked further... Yep, constant vigilance. It seemed like she was successfully avoid the Professor....

Or maybe not.

Goodness, the impediment jinx had caught her. Okay, she lost.

Active learning. Carl liked that. However, he did not understand how trying not to get hit was related to Arithmancy. He put his doubts aside and looked around, seeking a place to hide in. When he next lifted his eyes, he heard Professor Tanner's voice but could not see her. She was under the Disillusionment Charm! This was beginning to looked fun.

The Hufflepuff grinned and ran over to a good spot behind a metal platform. He remembered to jump over a mud pit on his way, but tripped over the next one he came across. His progress slower than before, he reached his destination and squatted down. Hopefully the Professor could not see him here.

SPOILER!!: Professor Tanner
After her Patronus stunt, she headed off to the other side of the arena, purposefully being careless about her footfalls. As she ran, she randomly shot Impediment Jinxes, hoping one would come close to someone and spook them. She thought she spotted someone, but maybe not.

From her spot just around the bend of one of the towers Hady spotted what she thought was a quick blur of whitish-silver. It vaguely resembled the coloring of a patronus that much she knew being able to cast one herself now only the darkness and the distance away from it left much to be known.

She didn't miss the running sounds of footsteps coming her way and the sound of missed spells hitting the tower beside and above her. Hady silently crept backwards further around the side of the tower and more into the darkness. It would keep her hidden yet at the same time make it unable to see where she was going. And unable to see didn't help.

In her haste to move her foot slid in something wet, possibly water or mud and down she went right into it. The coldness seeped through her clothing making it stick to her clothes stick to her skin. It wasn't water that much was sure. There wasn't much time to figure it out as she got to her feet and continued to move along the wall and through the tunnel of darkness.

The Professor's soared right over Kitty's head, narrowly missing her hair. Close one! Thankfully the Professor didn't seem to have seen her since she didn't continue firing in that spot and instead appeared to be firing randomly. Nearby Kitty watched as Azura and two other students got hit.

Kitty slowly pulled out her camera and snapped a picture of the room with the spells flying everywhere. It wasn't the best thing she could have done to remain hidden, but Kitty couldn't resist - she wanted a picture of the spells flying in the darkness.

Anyone see that?

Esme's eyes widened as she heard a collision nearby.

What had that been???

It sounded as if someone had bumped into an obstacle. Either it was one of her fellow classmates trying to find somewhere to hide... or it was Professor Tanner. The latter was something that she didn't want as she needed to stay under cover for as long as possible. It was a good idea for her to move somewhere else just to be safe.

Quickly Esme her way further along while still being careful to stay in the fog. It was getting harder and harder for her to see but she began to slow her pace as soon as she felt safer. Gingerly she made sure that her footing was secure and her arms were placed held out in front of her so that she could feel any obstacles before they came into contact with her. The moving ones made her slightly nervous.

Direct hit! And lucky, too, with that fog. "Over here," Tiara called quietly. She lifted the spell with a simple Finite to allow the girl free motion once more.

Oh, a near miss. She sent another one off in his direction, but she didn't really aim very carefully. It was more of her way of making him think she was after him. He was heading towards a dark alley and she would let him escape. This time...

...and then something darted toward her and crashed with the floor just two feet away from her.

Unfortunately for Ariadne Greingoth, Tiara had created this arena and knew the map like she knew the Chaldean Number System. Taking a shortcut, she dashed around to where the end of the alley came out and entered, hearing the girl's footfalls coming towards her. Hiding behind a barrier, she waited until just the right time and burst out behind the girl as she ran past. The jet of light shot towards her exposed back just as she stopped to hide.

She had flushed them out, all right. Now she wasn't going easy on them. They had headed directly for the fog and she went to outflank them, having the superior knowledge of the arena's layout to her advantage. She could hear them whispering nearby and knew she had them. Her wand aiming right down the middle of the alley, she shot of jet of light. Would she get one, both, or neither of them?

Or maybe not.

Goodness, the impediment jinx had caught her. Okay, she lost.

Score! "Nice try, Miss Burton. Finite," she said quietly, lifting the spell. "Now the fun part: you're joining Team Tanner." That made three for them now! "The incantation is Impedimenta. If you hit someone, they join our team. Now go get 'em!"

The Hufflepuff grinned and ran over to a good spot behind a metal platform. He remembered to jump over a mud pit on his way, but tripped over the next one he came across. His progress slower than before, he reached his destination and squatted down. Hopefully the Professor could not see him here.

She had been making her way to another portion of the arena, but... then she spotted a suspicious trail of mud. It would lead her right to someone. Tiara followed it a ways, then saw where it ended several yards away. Knowing her quarry was hiding there, she sent a spell towards the spot. She wasn't necessarily trying to get them right away, but if it happened to get them first try, so much the better.

Oh she had definitely flushed someone out of there. And then she heard the tell-tale sound of a splash, immediately deciding to head that way. They were headed towards a dark alley. Tiara made it to the entrance and shot two jinxes down the corridor, hoping to get lucky.

Kitty slowly pulled out her camera and snapped a picture of the room with the spells flying everywhere. It wasn't the best thing she could have done to remain hidden, but Kitty couldn't resist - she wanted a picture of the spells flying in the darkness.

Anyone see that?

What was that strange noise? A clicking sound.. something mechanical. Tiara took a step towards it, then thought otherwise. It was probably just some of the moving obstacles creaking. She would move on.

You know what would be really fun.. Tiara aimed her wand at one of the whirring obstacles and charmed it, then another and yet another. She sent all three off towards the fog to flush out anyone hiding there.

Hiding camouflaged under the metal platform, Tia inched back slightly when she saw the flash of light pass before her eyes and collide into the metal to her left. Was her camouflage that obvious? Did her disillusionment charm fail? Had Tanner heard her breathing and just assumed this as a likely hiding spot? Whatever it was, the seventh year was NOT going to concede to the Professor's team this easily. Nor was she sure what any of this had to do with Arithmancy, unless maybe ... strategy? Loose connection, if that was it.

Shrugging, the head girl was on the move ... quietly, to another location. She glided along under many of the towers and platforms, avoiding areas where her peers were hiding because hiding where others were was a surefire way to get caught. She should just go for it... her plan for 'safety'. Stopping just before one of the mud pits, Tia sat down on the ledge, as if it was like a pool ledge and slid into the gooey mud, which was up to her shoulders. Perfect. Now just stay still for what couldn't be too much longer...

Azura panted a little as the spell was finally lifted and she crawled in the direction of the Professor's voice.. She finally got out of the fog, and expected to be able to go sit down.. When.. Surprise!

Now she had to hunt people too? "I do know it Professor." She said softly as she got her wand out and looked around doubtfully, she was most likely to wreak some havoc on HERSELF But she didn't mention THAT at all..

"Okay! I'll try!" Azura said as she moved away from the fog to see if she could find any students.. She thought she caught a glimpse of the HEAD GIRL And so she quietly started to move after her..

The fog was too thick to see anything so Rachel had no advantage of using her sense of sight but she could use her sense of hearing, which she did. She could not hear Tanner, however, but suddenly a stream of light penetrated the fog and Rachel was immediately hit. Boo! It was like the Dueling Club meeting all over again when she was eliminated early.

She found herself moving slowly as the Impediment Jinx took over. When she was able to move normally, she said, ''I'm sorry, Haddie. It looks as though I'm out.'' The Eagle stepped out of the fog and moved towards Tanner. "You caught me, Professor.''

Jace didn’t need to be told twice. He loved doing hide and seek with his brother when he was much younger, much to the chagrin of the older Reed brother. Much thanks to Merlin, he is naturally a small and lean boy who is light on his feet, and his hours of Kendo training with his current sensei, Master Ryunosuke. All kendokas under his wing had been taught to be swift, and quiet with their movements, and move at the most unexpected second. He is still to master this technique however, but since he has been studying the art since he was four, Jace is far advanced in the art of evasion. For a samurai to be successful, he must be able to master the art of its opponent; the ninjas.

On instinct, Jace converted himself into one. Without a word, he stealthily disappeared into the dark, pulling his school robe’s hood to cover his head and half of his face. Without a sound, he settled in one of the dark corners, camouflaging himself naturally.

Scarlett had NO clue what was going on. Whenever lessons started like this, it was usually something super physical and complicated which Scarlett was NOT a huge fan of. But at the same time, Scarlett was NOT a fan of Arithmancy and was in support of anything that made the lesson more fun! So it was kind of a toss up.

She had been mostly staying silent behind one of the structures near the door, trying to get a feel for what was going on BEFORE running out and possibly exposing herself. But as her classmates started to move deeper and deeper into this pit...arena...thing, she knew she had to move to. Taking a deep breath and scouting out another obstacle to hide behind, she waited until it seemed safe and jumped out, darting towards the obstacle and hopefully making it there without being seen...

That WAS the point of all this, right??

Mud.

Wet and cold mud. Not to mention sticky too.

Not a good combination if you were trying to hide from someone. Being covered in mud not only was uncomfortable but it didn't help when you were trying to run. It slowed you down a great deal.

Out of nowhere two jinxes came her way, one of them skimming a few inches above her head. The other hitting her squarely in the shoulder as she attempted to turn out of the way. The Impedimenta jinx slowed her down further until she stopped in her tracks in the darkness of the alley. "You got me Professor!" Hadleigh called out. She was caught fair and square and didn't mind it one bit.

This sucked. Ava was very good in hiding and hide and seek was her favorite childhood game. But now the Professor had caught her with the impediment jinx. The young lioness couldn't help but surprised and widened her brown eyes when Professor Tanner said that now she got to be in her team and caught more student.

She got to join the Professor's team? Well this was such an interesting twist.

The young lioness just nodded at Professor Tanner's instruction. Impediment jinx, it wasn't that difficult. Ava had practiced the jinx for her dueling and now it's time to use it. And now she didn't feel bad for getting caught because she had a chance to catch people! Hohoho.... Her instinct said that she should go to the dark alley because 1) it was her hiding spot before and 2) she was 200% sure that there would be more students there.

Ava spotted a Ravenclaw boy ran to and silently followed him, kept the distance so it wouldn't look weird why on earth she was following. No students knew that she was on the same team with Professor Tanner, right? Okay. So this boy wouldn't be suspicious of her. But you know that it's difficult to fool a Ravenclaw since they got brains and everything. She watched the boy movement and once he settled in a dark corner, Ava sent the impediment jinx from afar. "Impedimenta."

WHAT IN MERLIN'S BEARD WAS THAT?!

Esme almost jumped out of her skin as a wooden object zoomed past less than an inch from her face. Seemed that Professor Tanner wanted to raise the stakes a little.

Getting her bearings back, she began another mad dash towards safety. Unfortunately for her it was much more difficult to run to safety when there were objects whizzing past in just about any direction. "OOF!" she exclaimed as she was sent flying forward, almost landing in a mud pit. Fortunately only her palms fell in.

Ariadne did not like this alley. If there was anybody here, they were hidden and lurking where she couldn't see them, and she did NOT like that. She was no Gryffindor, and bravery wasn't her strong point. Her strong point was determination, and if she wanted to survive this, she had to WANT to do it.

The problem was, she had a habit of thinking upon things too long, and apparently the professor had caught on to this and had followed her into the alley. Ariadne basically didn't even stand a chance. She was trying to slip into the shadows, when the spell slammed into her back.

Ariadne tried to take off running, but it was of no use. Her attempt at speed paired with the effects of the spell basically caused her to fall in a heap on the floor. OH, DEAR MERLIN. Was that even the PROFESSOR?!

Another thing he'd learned from seasoned kendo masters was to keep moving. Never let a shinai hit stop you from moving, they said. To put it simpler words, samurais would never take a step back. Their direction was always forward, charging to retaliate. Jace however, was quick to think about things. This class is not Kendo practise at all. This activity has fellow witches and wizards who have wands to impale him from a distance. Blindly, yes, but not ineffective 100%.

He should keep moving. That way, he'd be a more challenging victim to disarm. If he is to fail, at least to him, he'd fail with honour. Taking in a deep breath, Jace emerged from his dark corner, determined to be 'unplottable', and moved to the next location.

The fogged area seemed to be a nice place to hide, but if he is to face an adult witch, Jace was sure that she could dissipate the white smoke with a flick of her wand. Clever for her, foolish move for him.

But before he could even get to the next obstacle to hide, someone had apparently tailed him. He couldn't tell who it was, but he was sure this person was out to get him. Also...why was the professor using a verbal incantation? He'd seen the light come for him, but then it disappeared as it hit another student.

Jace's eyes grew wide, and was quick to turn on his heels to run.

His teachers were right.

He carefully treaded the steel grate flooring, and moved to where the flying crates were. He could use those as shield should someone try to immobilise him, as well as use his small frame to his advantage.

He was pretty sure the professor wasn't even trying that time. The spell cleared him on his left, though he jerked away from it out of habit; with a nervous gasp, he ducked down into the darkness and skidded to a halt in what he felt was the darkest spot. Once there... the small boy froze, listening for footsteps; when he heard none, he squatted down, still on his feet but now much smaller and closer to the ground. In the darkness it should have been very difficult to see him, or so he hoped, and he presented much less of a target now.

Sometimes being very small was good. Hopefully it would keep him safe for a minute or two.

Anyhow, she had left a surprise in the mud for anyone who tried to hide there. If someone had taken refuge in the dirty pit, their ankles were likely to be grabbed, bitten, or otherwise assaulted any second now...

Aha, she knew someone was there! But given the fact that it was Rachel stepping towards her from the fog, and she had been talking to someone, a certain other Ravenclaw was likely nearby, yes?

"Apparently so. Now - surprise! - you are joining my turn. You know the Impediment Jinx, I presume?" she asked, lifting the same jinx from the eagle as she spoke softly. "So we will split up and try to get more people out that way. Have at it!"

Time was running out and Tiara knew there were still plenty of students lurking about. As she made her way towards another likely spot of the arena, she continued to send random Impediment Jinxes about. Sure she may get lucky and hit someone, but also it would confuse them as to her exact location. But really? She was just hoping to scare someone into moving.

Yes! Well.. she knew she wanted the students to win but.. You know, she was into this, too! "Finite," she said, walking up to the Slytherin. "Now for the twist, you will be joining my team!" She didn't bother asking if the fifth year knew the jinx: she did. "Now spread out quickly, there are only about 3 minutes left."

Gotcha now!

Tiara spun around on the spot. "Impedimenta," she spoke softly, sending a jinx towards the source of the noise, which appeared to be a mud pit. Sure enough, she saw someone kneeling down there. Now would it hit its mark after being so wildly shot?

The problem was, she had a habit of thinking upon things too long, and apparently the professor had caught on to this and had followed her into the alley. Ariadne basically didn't even stand a chance. She was trying to slip into the shadows, when the spell slammed into her back.

Ariadne tried to take off running, but it was of no use. Her attempt at speed paired with the effects of the spell basically caused her to fall in a heap on the floor. OH, DEAR MERLIN. Was that even the PROFESSOR?!

Yes, that was a direct hit by the sound of things. Hurrying over, Tiara saw a crumpled form on the ground and quickly lifted the jinx. After a quick glance, it was easy for her to see that Ariadne was not injured. "Well, you may be out, but you are not done yet. You are joining team Tanner now!" She smiled and offered a hand to the girl. "The incantation is Impedimenta, in case you don't know it." She checked her watch once more. "We only have a couple of minutes left, so head on out!"

Sure enough, he had headed for the alley. She circled around towards the other end as stealthily as she could. Reaching the opening, she shot a nonverbal spell down the corridor, aiming a little lower than normal in case someone was crouching behind a barrier.

Kitty watched from her hiding spot in the dark corridor as two more students got hit by spells. If she wasn't worried that the floor might be dirty she would have crouched down on all fours to avoid getting hit by any accidental spells. Instead she just crouched on her knees and leaned against the wall, trying to be perfectly still.
