The usual classical music is playing in the classroom, and it can be heard floating down the corridor. The door of the Transfiguration classroom is wide open, so come on in. Professor B/York, whatever you call her, is leaning against her desk eating from a small bowl of lollies. No, you can’t have any.
The desks are arranged in the usual circle, with the same one reserved for Professor York. There is, however, no box of musical instruments. INSTEAD, on top of each desk is a random instrument, AND a small bowl of assorted lollies.
Come on in, say hello, chose your seat/instrument, and explore your small bowl of lollies. What did YOU get?
OOC: Sorry! I meant to have this started a few hours ago but zombie brain got in the way of thinking. Will hopefully start in about 22 hours or so.

Paulina would be lying if she said she wasn't pleased that Professor York liked her answer and elaborated on it. The Seventh Year was beaming because that had never happened to her before.
After beating away on her drum some more she said, ""I try and continue with the pep talk. If that still doesn't work, I generally walk away for a little while and try again later. Being frustrated makes spell casting HARDER." Nod.

Yep. So.... he needed to revisit that.
Ahh, the patronus charm. A very difficult one, and Beatrice could understand Zeke's difficulty with the spell. She nodded, "Yes, it's often the case that one expects a different result from performing something the same. So, a different approach can sometimes be of great help."

Angel had no idea why she felt that, maybe it was because she was used to succeeded and she hated failing. At her Primary School she had always been near the top of the class and she was just used to being able to achieve things.
Beatrice cracked a smile at Angel's answer. "I like your honesty, Angel. I know how frustrating it can be when you don't get the result you desire." Yes, she had almost thrown her wand into next week a few times, too.

Hady knew the one charm that was driving her insane. It was the same charm she had been working on for well over a year now. She knew she wasn't the only one that couldn't do this and hearing Zeke a few seats away announce that he was still working on it as well didn't help at all. She was focused, always. She had tried EVERYTHING and it just wasn't working. "I feel like a failure honestly. It's rather discouraging to be able to cast other charms or something on the very first try or after a few days maybe a week even but when you can't accomplish something after a year or more it gets very frustrating." Hady had given her answer but not before playing another different tune on her drum. "When you've exhausted every possible thing you can think of that would help you with the charm there's nothing left but to KEEP trying." Even if you continued to fail for another year. Sooner or later something was bound to change. Or so she hoped. Deep down she knew she was capable of it, it was just that her mind didn't always agree.
Beatrice listened to Hady's answer, and nodded with understanding. "I can relate to that." Every now and then, ONE spell came along that alost seemed impossible. How does one overcome that learning hurdle when it just seems as though it will never be successful?

Onto the next question, the Slytherin sat back and tried to remember the time when he couldn’t summon objects. It was truly frustrating and discouraging, and he found himself giving up on the spell, and not his ability to do it. Which was actually good, now that he got the chance to reflect on it.
Tap. Tap. Tap!
Ethan sounded the tambourine as he offered his answer to the professor. “The breathing still helped. Though it helped me keep my sanity, it didn’t stop me from feeling frustrated and mad. What I did was I practised other spells that I’ve mastered to help myself let go of self doubt. I guess, appreciating the spells that I can do, somehow helped me do a restart without the negative energy.”
Practice was key. Practice was everything, really.
"I do have gum. I'll save you some," she said. Yep, this Professor was always true to her word. Especially if it helped with study, perhaps she should have put some in the little bowls this time? Ahh, this was a handy little way of helping overcome that anger and frustration. "Yes, I like that answer! In a way it's your own little pep-talk. Showing yourself that you ARE capable." Nods.

So, onto the next question! See, Adi? You weren't the only one who struggled with the failure. But he hadn't realised that some of his friends take it so seriously as he did. It might just push the kid away. So Zander was trying ultimately hard not to look over at the younger Gryffindor. Ahem.
He blew on the harmonica, making the worst sound ever before offering up his own opinion. Geez. Why give instruments to someone who can't play them? "Feels terrible, 'specially when you know everyone else is watching you." Aka the classroom setting. That's how it felt in that first Charms class. And everyone was trying to offer up their encouragement which only made him feel like more of a failure. "But I guess that's when you've got to get out of your own head and tell yourself that you can't give up... 'Cause when people see you give up, kinda feels worse than when they see you fail at something." Though both were horrible. And yes, Zander Adair did care what other people thought about him. So what? Sue him.
It took Beatrice a second to realise that noise was actually from the harmonica, but Beatrice was happy with the effort nevertheless. "That's very true. We put a lot of pressure on students, and you guys on yourself, to perform these spells. And of course the pressure is higher when surrounded by people who can see whether you succeed or not." It was the downfall of group lessons.

Beatrice gave Caleb a nod, agreeing with his statement. "Clearing ones mind does wonders in more ways than one," she said. "Especially for something requiring the level of concentration required to learn a challenging spell."

Right, question-answering time. He always seemed to get distracted when it was that time. Probably because he had stopped paying attention out of boredom. But he decided he should probably raise his hand to answer, considering he had not answered the previous one. So Olly raised his hand.
"I'm only eleven, you see." ALMOST TWELVE. "So when I can't get a spell right on the first try I don't really think it's surprising."

Probably very distracting for the Professor and for his fellow students, but he really was enjoying his little dose of sugar. Was there a reason for the lollipops, actually? He supposed that he didn't care, though.
He was just enjoying the lollipop and had enjoyed the other lollipops that he had finished already.
He supposed that Professor York also had another good question and he considered it for a moment before raising his hand (and HAMMERING the heck out of his triangle) with a grin. "I usually take a step away from it, because I don't like not being able to do things." And he usually got very angry with himself. "And then I go over my notes and think about what I should be doing a little more, probably watch some other people to see how they are doing it." And because he was always very observant around people. "Then I try again when I feel confident in myself." Otherwise it was a waste of space.
Beatrice nodded at Rooney, "Oh I will have to give it a go!" Yes, she was sure the situation would arise one day, where she could use the method.
Rooney was an enthusiastic little natural on the triangle. She was happy to hear him tinging away at it once more. "Ahh yes, reflective learning is a VERY good answer." That was one of Beatrice's preferred methods of learning. By reflecting on everything.

Ahh look how happy the young lass looked! It made Beatrice smile even more. Beatrice was thrilled to hear Paulina say that giving herself a pep talk was one of her methods for stubborn spells. "Ahh yes, I completely agree with you there. It's very important to remove yourself from the spell after a while. Come at it again with a fresh approach."
After listening to all of the fantastic responses, Beatrice clashed her little cymbals together again. "Fantastic ideas everyone. Each and every one of them!" Golden stars for all!
"Now, I want us to do a little activity. So, if you would all stand up and take one step away from your desk. Any direction, just not right in someone else's space." Because nobody liked a personal space hogger.
"Firstly I want us to do a little bit of a stretching exercise. I find that with a lot of tension, espeically in the neck and shoulders, and my posture goes down the tip. And with it... my spell casting abilities." Who knew... "So, copy me!" And she tilted her head over to the left for thirty seconds, then the right. Then tilted her head forwards for thirty seconds, then back, looking up at the ceiling. Then she rolled her shoulders backwards ten times, then forwards ten. "Ahh that feels better," she said, but her muscles were much older than those of the students, so she wasn't about to be surprised at their lack of enthusiasm. One day, perhaps, they would.
"Secondly! We cannot expect to succeed if we mumble! Correct and clear pronunciation of incantations is VITAL! Even if you are casting a non-verbal spell. So, I want you all to copy after me. Speak VERY clearly and overpronounce every word!" She flicked her wand to the board, where the words she was about to speak appeared. Clearing her throat, she began, making sure she was exaggerating every sound.

The more he listened was the further the little boy sank in his seat. This discussion was one he would have preferred not to walk into. First lesson since way back in September and he walks in on this...and people talking about their failures as well as their strategies and it only made him feel worse.
Did it matter that others were providing answers that mirrored his own--feeling like an absolute failure and being discouraged--nope. It didn't change how HE felt, it just reminded him and he wasn't even TRYING a spell this time. Was it possible to still feel bad even when away from your object of failure?? Kinda funny she chose these questions when he finally came back too. Like...like she was picking on him...or trying to make him see that he wasn't the only one with problems but he was the only one who didn't try fixing them.
Mean.
Further still the boy sank into his seat until only his head was visible above the surface of the desk, lollipop in mouth, dejected look.
He really didn't want to be here.
---
Finally it seemed the uncomfortable bit was over and everyone was moving on. Blaise watched the others getting up before he did, not very motivated to leave his seat but if he sat sitting, after awhile he'd be the only one sitting and it would be obvious so up he went. The little boy found a spot for himself where he was sure not to bump into anyone then focused forward.
Stretching he could do. It wasn't so hard and wouldn't require magic.
Blaise tilted his head the way she did, counting out the seconds in his head as he waited for her to give them instructions to change positions. Next it was tilted to the other side and another thirty seconds.
He didn't honestly want to think about what the activity might be--the big one--so he cleared his mind as he did the stretches and just rolled his shoulders. When that bridge got there he would cross it, but not now, not while he didn't have to.

And this class was getting weird... and his lollies were slowly becoming depleted.
Zeke did as instructed, pushing away from his desk as he rose to his feet, and then took ANOTHER step back in the other direction, careful to make sure that other people weren't invading HIS space.... cause yeah. HIS space.
The first activity they were going to do... was stretching?
He had hoped they'd be doing some magic, but whatever, he could do this much he supposed.
Following Professor York's directions, Zeke tilted his head this way and that, stretching it and rolling with it. Admittedly... it felt pretty darn good... but he wouldn't say so out loud.
And then next was the shoulder rolling, he did that too. He wasn't counting them out, but he was keeping time with everyone else.
He did wonder if that would be it, and that NOW they would get into doing some magic.... but that wasn't happening either, instead they had another task. And gosh. Really? A tongue twister? Zeke eyed the board, reading it in his head first.

Yep, yep, Professor Bee! Adi wasn't one to give up easily and he was sure Hades was the same. Did we mention we loved Bee's awesome positive attitude? It would make even the most pessimistic person positive! Mhmm.
Woot! Activity time!
Following Beatrice's instructions, the Hufflepuff jumped up from his seat and took exactly one step to his right. Not in anyone's space, was he? A quick glance around told him that he was not. Excellent!
Alrightey. So it seemed they would be starting with stretching exercises. Cool! This was just like warming up before a cricket match. Adi copied his Professor tilting is head this way and that and in all the directions. And then he did the same with his shoulders. Yep, he knew these exercises made everyone (or almost everyone) better. They were so relaxing!

He hated tongue twisters, did she know? They were the worst. It reminded him of speaking French, because every time he tried to, he just felt tongue tied.
The only thing that helped in this situation was that she said to over-pronounce everything, which meant he could also take his time with it.
"I thought... I thought... of think-ing... of thank-ing you."
That one was just weird. So weird. It didn't make sense, NONE of it made sense.
"Can you... can a can... as a cann-er can.... can a can?"
Yeah, he was lost. WHY was this necessary? He wasn't sold on how THIS was supposed to help him with incantations and things.
And then this one... the one that had tripped him up SO MANY TIMES in third grade.
"She... sells.... sea-shells.... by the sea... shore."
He was glad that was over and done with. NOW could they to magic stuff? Please? Only... apparently not. And he might need more lollies now. Quickly, he fished out a sherbet lemon from his own and popped it in his mouth.
Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite
One look at the board and the boy was ready to go back to stretching. That was a lot of words he had to stress and over pronounce and after a while the boy was pretty sure he was gonna get tongue tied. Kid might have complained but then he realized....the longer they did this was longer they could stall the inevitable.
Okay. He could do this. He was SO ready. Yup.
Blaise stood squinting at the board for a moment, just making sure he could see all the words before he began saying them aloud. Over pronouncing. Okay.
Yes. Ready.
"LEssER leaTHER NEVer weaTHERed wetTER weaTHER betTER. I THOUGht I THOUGht of THINKing of thANKing yOU. Can yOU can a can as a canNER can can a can? She sells SEAshells by the sea shORE."
No problem at all.

Closing his eyes was a lot easier to do when he had a lolly in his mouth... because, the flavour was entertaining enough. At first he thought when she said 'focus' that they were going to meditate, but instead it seemed they were going to play with their imagination?
....
Okay then... he did this all the time in Divination though so, not much different.
Eyes closed, Zeke imagined the colour white. Which was easy enough, because he was used to seeing that colour in abundance. His house, in fact, the past three houses he's lived/stayed in... all had white walls. It was... kinda weird, like, creepy? Yeah, something like that.
But white.
Just white.
IT WAS WHITE.
And now an ocean? But it was white? No... it had to be an ocean. HE THOUGHT OF OCEANS. More-so the rolling waves than anything else, beach pebbles and sand didn't do much to excite him, waves were far better...
But then... an elephant? WAS SHE FOR REAL? Right, okay, an elephant... it was there kinda... though he was a little more attentive to the lemon flavour in his mouth right now. Mmmm, lemon. ELEPHANT! Waves. White. White in waves with an elephant! Walking... walking in the shallow water waves, and then swimming. How did elephants swim? Trunks splashing? Flailing? Rolling? ... That's what he went with.

It did happen to herself, okay? Since she was being a first year and didn't have very much experience with her wand, so she often asked the older students or even the Professors to teach her. Ava actually didn't know why Professor B talked about this for now, but she's such a great Professor.
Following her instruction, the young lioness then stood up from her desk. They're gonna do some stretching? This reminded her of her P.E class when she was in muggle school. She copied her movement: tilting her head over to the left, then the right. Then tilting it again forwards, then back, then looking up at the ceiling. Then rolling her shoulders backwards ten times, then forwards ten.

Bentley hopped to his feet and shook out his limps, limp noodle style, then he flashed a bright grin over at his cousin and began mimicking the professor's moves.
This was it? It looked like transfiguration was going to be pretty darn easy. See Blaise, you really didn't have anything to worry about. But if they were going to end up using their wands, Ben had his cousin's wand tucked away in his book bag. He was sure he'd be wanting to use it at least on of these days.

Great!
The mini physical exercise was done so what was next? Adi kept his attention on Beatrice. Yep, pronunciation was key so... a tongue twister or four? AWESOMEEE! Adi most of the time would fail at these things but they were always great fun to say.
Adi tried it out slowly, repeating the words from the board slowly and clearly so that he would get accustomed to it all. That was easy. He tried it again. "Lesser leather never weathered wetter weather better. I thought I thought of thinking of thanking you. Can you can a can as a canner can can a can? She sells seashells by the sea shore.''

She'd done with the stretching. And now, what's next?
...........
Seriously???? TONGUE TWISTER??
This was like her English class back when she was in.... kindergarten maybe. Huh.. And she's not a really fan of tongue twister because it ended up with her tongue literally twisted.
"Lesser leather never weathered..... blah blah blaaaaah... " Ugh. Tried again? "Lesser leather never weathered wetter weather better." Fiuh.. She could ace the first line. Move on to the next line?
"I thought I thought of thinking of thanking you." No problem. Next line?
"Can you can a can as a canner can can a can?" Come on, this was easy.
"She sells.... seashells... blah blah blah..." Okay, this was hard. "She sells.... seashells... by the sea... shore."

Now for the final part of this activity.
Adi yet again followed Beatrice's instructions by closing his eyes this time around. He could still hear his classmates finishing up on the tongue twisters. He wished he could trying saying them super fast but right now he had to focus. Adi opted to think about black because black was, you got it! It was awesome! It was usually the colour of rock and roll.
And then his thoughts were switching to the ocean. The caaaalm blue ocean but then there was a green elephant invading like Beatrice said. Hi, elephant! You were the object of this Puffer's thoughts. Look at you wading through that water, green against blue. What's that? You wanted to swim? By all means, go ahead and do so!
Wheee! This was easy to do when your mind was calm and clear.

Another lollie was devoured by Owen as he listened to the awesome Professor Bee give her instructions for their supposedly little activity. YAY! Owen loved activities. He learned much better with it than just by plain boring lecture.
So, he stood up promptly, took a step backward and got ready for some stretching.
Neck first and then shoulders. STREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEETCHING. Owen even added in some personal stretching particularly on his arms and rotating on his wrists.
Activity one: concentration (this kinda remind me of my taichi class)
BOOMBAYAH! | #PuedoPorquePiensoQuePuedo | Certified Blank and Random Person | Raventastic
And now, what's next?
Right... Concentration.
Following Professor B' instruction, the young lioness closed her eyes. Aaaaaand.... thinking about fifty shades of grey. Still focusing.... KEEP focusing and theeeeen... Moving to the ocean (?) Woah... Now she wanted to go to the beach. Keep focus, Burton!!!
And then, moving on to an elephant. Why an elephant? Why not giraffe? Hehehe... She thought of big huge elephant.... And then walking through water? And then swimming... Now she really wanted to go swimming at the great lake.

Overpronounce? Hah! He could do that. Then the words were on the board. Tongue twisters! Owen grinned to himself because he taught his little sister different tongue twisters on a weekly basis.
"LEsser leeeather nEverR weeeeathered wEtter weaTHer bEtter. I thOught I thOught of thiiiinking of thaaaanking yoU. A little pause just because. "CAn yoU cAn a cAn As a cAnnnner cAn cAn a cAn? Shhhe sElls seeeeashElls by thE seeeeea shOOOre."

Getting out of their desks probably meant that Olly should stop eating the candy at that moment. So he wrapped up his sucker in the clear wrapping and set it down on his desk. He would definitely be coming back for that later. But at the moment, he took one big step forward, making sure that he was not too close to anyone else. What exactly were they doing?
Oh, stretching. That was alright. He stretched out his arms as far as they could go and followed the professor's lead. He stretched his had to the right, and then to the left. And for good measure, he leaned down to touch his toes. There, all stretched out and ready for the next exercise.

Owen took a deep breath. Because you know, focus and concentrate. Then closed his eyes. Hmm. Dark.. Ocean? That was easy. There were so many beaches back home. Hmmmm...peaceful ocean with waves of varying hues of blue and green. Now a green elephant? Whoa. That was some visualization. But Owen still went and pictured it on his mind. Green elephant! A big green elephant. Its tusks were green too! Maybe Professor Bee did not exactly mention it having green tusks but hey, this was Owen's imagination.

Stretching? That was easy enough. Caleb loved to stretch, it felt so good, especially after a run! Hmm. Maybe he'd use some of these techniques in his NEWTs! He'd never thought to stretch before doing some spell work..but really, it made sense. Points to you, new Transfiguration professor! We like you!
Alright, stretch time. Cracking his knuckles first (bad habit, whoops) he stretched his head to the left, then to the right, spending about thirty seconds on each side, maybe a few seconds less because he didn't want to OVER stretch and he could feel a little bit of the burn as he did so. Now forward....then back...and now the shoulders!
He rolled them backwards, then forwards, just as she had done. This was nice. He was totally copying this for NEWTs.

Right. He could soooo do this. All he had to do was think about the words and say them clearly. He was a good enounciator wasn't he? He thought so. Bet no one in here knew that his first word was water. Not many babies were genius enough to have their first word being water.
So here he'd go. Ahem..
Lesser leather never weathered wetter weather better. "Lesser leather never weathered wedder...no no...weathered webber..no wetter better!"...Erm..."close enough."

Post 1 - Stretching
Otter This World ♡ Catpurrccino ♡ Slotherin ♡ Pandamonium
Hady was listening silently. Listening and taking notes. There was a lot of words happening but she managed to keep up. When told to get to their feet she easily complied pushing her parchment to the top corner of her desk and setting her quill down beside it.
Slipping from her chair Hady got to her feet and pushed the chair in standing behind it. It was time do some stretching. This she could do without a problem. First she tilted her head to the left and then the right. Front and then back to stare up at the ceiling before rolling her head slowly in a circle one way and then the other.
Lifting her shoulders she first rolled them forward a few times and then back before stretching her arms up over her head reaching for the ceiling. It helped loosen her up a little more.
There. Easy as pie.

Alright they were out of the question phase and into a little activity. Fine by Benny. He could learn either way, as long as whatever they were to do wasn't TOO embarishing or TOO hard but that didn't seem to be the case as she started running them through what she wanted them to do. One seventh year lion standing up as directed, taking a small step backwards to be clear from his desk and his nearest fellows including Adi. And then there was the echoed movements, Benny doing his best to follow along as exact as possible.
Tilted head to the lift...
Tilted head to the right...
Now to the back.

Moving away from his desk and into a place he found to be clear of other students, Rooney bounced excitedly on the balls of his feet. Oh oh this was going to be SO fun. It was just like his acting exercises. Tongue twisters and stretching and IMAGINATION. Oh, this was perfect. There was definitely a reason that he loved Transfiguration and right now -- THIS WAS IT. He would have clapped if he wasn't listening so much to Professor York. He would have clapped if he was SO involved and in awe of how grand this was. Did anyone else think it was as GRAND as he did? No? Oh... Well, fine.
He took the deepest of breaths and started with his head over to the left, counting quietly to thirty and then switching to the right. Seriously, this was very relaxing. And it definitely eased up any breathing problems that you may have too. It was much like doing star jumps in that. Regulating breathing. And now, forward. Thennnnn back. He closed his eyes when he was looking at the ceiling, just because he had the tendency to over-lean and fall if he didn't. Overachieving, see.
He rolled his shoulders forward with a smile, and an even bigger one when he rolled them backwards.
Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite
Now that he was done butchering the English language he could move on to the next activity with the Professor. This time they were going to be imagining things which was infinitely easier than having them cast spells to transfigure things. Once again, the little boy was completely on board, eyes closed, mind blank, waiting for instructions.
Shades of grey...and black...and white ALL went floating through his mind. Why? Because his brain grabbed onto them the moment she said them and there was nothing he could do to change that. One minute this colour, then another it was that. It was a wonder he was keeping up at all!
Ooooh and there was the green elephant, or...er...it was MEANT to be green but his mind was apparently still stuck on grey mode? So......HAI GREY ELEPHANT!! Blaise watched it going through the shallow water through his mind's eyes then watched it sinking further and further down as the water got deeper until it was actually swimming.
Must have been nice, not being cooped up in a class; getting to go swimming as it wanted. The little boy couldn't wait for summer. Nothing but sun, sand and sea in the Caribbean.

Post 2 - Pronunciation
Otter This World ♡ Catpurrccino ♡ Slotherin ♡ Pandamonium
Now that she was all stretched out her eyes shifted towards the board. What was this about proper pronunciation and speaking clearly? She knew this part was for making sure the spell was cast correctly. Saying an incantation wrong could end up with drastic results.
So tongue twisters it was. Four of them to be exact. Well alright. Hady kept her eyes on the board reading and then re-reading over each one making herself familiar with them. When she was ready she carefully and slowly said each out loud making sure to speak slowly and clearly.
"Lesser leather never weathered wetter weather better. I thought I thought of thinking of thanking you. Can you can a can as a canner can can a can? She sells seashells by the sea shore.'' Wow that was a bit harder then she had thought. At least she didn't have to say those five times fast!
