Since 1971, this infamous plant has kept it's reputation for not favouring visitors. The Whomping Willow is an extremely violent tree that will attack anything and anyone that comes within range of its branches. A deciduous plant, its limbs function as arms and any damage to them must be treated in the same way and more. So unless you want to spend most of your time in the Hospital Wing being treated, it's best to keep your distance.
'What', was not what he was hoping to hear. In fact, he was sure 'what' was worse than a 'thanks but no thanks' because it meant she thought the notion was ludicrous beyond belief. So ludicrous that she was lost for words? Was it? He didn't think so.
Now he really did have to look away.
Unsure of WHERE to look, Zeke scanned their surroundings, his gaze landing on the whomping willow until she spoke again. But what she said had him turning his head back to face her before following her gaze and staring at their hands. That pit in his stomach was back, possibly bigger than before. A part of him had hoped she wouldn't be hurt by it, that she didn't care, that it wouldn't matter... but it did, and though it had its own drawbacks, it meant that she DID care. Right? "I know," he managed. It was inexcusable, and he wanted to assure her it would NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN, but would she believe him? He wouldn't.
"I wasn't thinking, but I'll.... make it up to you." Somehow. Somehow.
Was this it? Would she send him away again now? Without a proper answer?
Zeke maintained his hold on her hand, his thumb moving in circles around her palm. He was content to stay this way until given his marching orders, but that didn't come, the words that followed had his head sharply turning up to meet her gaze. Hogsmeade. HOGSMEADE! He was already nodding along. YES, Hogsmeade, YES talking and stuff, YES it was a deal. "I look forward to it," he beamed. Yes, beaming was happening, because... it was a good day, life was good. He gave her hand a small squeeze, somehow managing to resist the urge to catch her face and kiss it all over.
He knew that he'd hurt her.
In fact Maggie didn't really know why it had hurt her. It had to mean something. All she did know that it had taken a lot to admit it out loud. She didn't know if she liked him too. Thinking about it, it did mean that she somewhat cared though, yes. That she did like him. To what extent she didn't know or whether it was a LIKE kind of like or just a general friends kind of like. Either way, she did care enough to feel hurt by his going back on his promise and just leaving her behind. It was confusing. And she didn't know what to make of it.
Yet, here they were.
And he was saying how he was going to make it up to her. Whatever that meant.
She shifted her second hand to cover his too before looking back up. Zeke looked excited. REALLY excited. And it was amusing, so Maggie grinned back at him. This, the look he was giving her right now, was probably what every girl's dream-reaction was to agreeing to go on a date with someone. "It's just a date, though." Even though the words 'just' and 'date' sounded weird being used in the same sentence. However, she did feel the need to clarify that she had NOT agreed to be his girlfriend or something. It was in fact just a date. It was probably a good idea to, like, talk about stuff first. They hadn't really done a lot of talking just the two of them.
"And you don't have to keep it a secret." Maggie reached up to touch the tip of his nose with her finger. Yes. If he wanted to he could even tell people about their date. He could tell Hady. Oh, speaking of... "I told Hady." In case it hadn't come up yet or something. Somehow she felt like he should know about that.

Grinning Marsha nodded. ”I’m good, though I don’t think I was getting this charm completely right in class.” Pausing, she giggled as Angel basically said the same thing as she did. ”Yeah… though if we are both unsure here is hoping we can get it right today.” Smiling at her friend, Marsha gave her a reassuring look… She knew that they would do awesome - look how well they had done in History of Magic last year hehe.
”Okay, so we are both practising different charms right? I need to practise catching the ball… while you are banishing the ball? I think that pretty much means we’re going to have to throw the ball back and forth so that we can both practise… As you’ll have to throw the ball for me… but you’ll have to start with the ball to banish it to me?” Marsha would be lying if she said she wasn’t a little bit confused… maybe this would have been easier if she had decided to practise with Lance or Rusty… buuuuut at least this was fun and she hadn’t spent much time with Angel yet this term so it was all good.
”Right…” Setting her feet into the ground, Marsha lifted her wand. ”I’m ready, try throwing the ball my way and I’ll catch it first, then I can either throw it back to you or something. Eh, we can figure that out in a minute.” Watching Angel, she got ready to say the charm as the ball was in the air. Ah-REST-oh mo-MEN-tum. She had looked it up in her charms textbook before she had come down to meet Angel and had been repeating it over and over. She didn’t want to get it wrong again.
As the ball came her way, she said firmly, ”Arresto Momentum!” as she waved her wand and whooped as the ball slowed in its descent towards her. As it came closer, she stretched upwards to pull the slowly falling ball from the air. Beaming, she turned to Angel.
”Okay, try banishing from my hand… and if that doesn’t work, you can hold it and try banishing it to me or something.” All smiles and encouragement for you!

Oh, speaking of... "I told Hady." In case it hadn't come up yet or something. Somehow she felt like he should know about that.
With her other hand on top of his, Zeke couldn't help but grin wider (if that was even possible at this point), especially when he saw her grinning too. Nothing could bring him down right now, probably not even Maggie herself, unless she decided to take it all back and actually slap him or something, but he wasn't even considering that as an option. What she DID say though, had him thinking. Firstly, it was a DATE, so he'd have to do DATE things... and secondly, he couldn't call her his girlfriend, yet. "It's not just a date though, it's... a date," he corrected, because 'just' was not a necessary word. Still, progress was progress.
And as far as progress went, Maggie was starting to get somewhere with it. He didn't have to keep this a secret. He'd already wanted to kiss her, but now he REALLY wanted to kiss her. "I won't broadcast it or anything, unless you want me to, but... thanks." Really, truly, THANK YOU MAGGIE! Her finger to his nose was a welcome gesture too, and a part of him - perhaps his inner wolf - wanted to lick it, somehow he refrained from doing so, instead catching her hand with his and placing a quick peck on it instead. It was probably going to be the closest he'd get to a kiss until after their date, or on their date if he was lucky... girls had rules about kissing guys they were dating, right? Which seemed silly considering they'd been there and done that, bought the t-shirt.
But then she mentioned Hady.
"I know," he replied, recalling Hady's awkward confrontation at the obstacle course. "What exactly did you tell her though?" Like, how much did she know?

Semantics, right. Maggie giggled softly and shook her head, clearly amused. "Yes, it's a date." Not 'just' a date but a date. Period. "I just wanted to make sure you know that I didn't say yes to...what you asked." The girlfriend question. Somehow she couldn't quite get herself to use the word right now. It sounded weird. It even sounded weird in her head. So no. No girlfriend for you, Zeke. At least not right now.
Broadcast it? That made her laugh, too. Like what would that be? An announcement in the Quill? No she didn't want him to do that. In reply she only nodded though. As much as she liked being in a position of power there, saying 'you're welcome' to his thanks would have been weird. She couldn't get herself to do that. So a nod would have to suffice. When he kissed her hand, Maggie's eyes locked on his and she, too, wanted to kiss him. Like properly. But since they were going on that date now they should wait. That's how it worked.
So instead she just gave his other hand a soft squeeze.
Oh. He knew. So she HAD talked to him. Like Maggie had told her to. Uh oh. Hopefully that hadn't like made things awkward between them like she'd originally planned. Not that her and Hady were like best friends or anything but there WAS some kind of girl code especially among the slytherins. So far so good though it seemed. "I mostly told her about detention really." She looked down at the grass again. There was other stuff that she wasn't going to share. "And like HOW we got detention in the first place." Pause. "She asked and I told her" It almost sounded like an apology.
She did feel a little bad for not giving Zeke the chance to tell Hady.

Angel looked at her friend as she watched her practice the Arresto Momentum spell and succeeding. "AWESOME!!!!!!!" Angel did a little jig for her younger friend. "Your awesome." Angel really saw Marsha as one of her best friend, she was now just wondering where Leah was because she hadn't seen her BFF for ages. "I knew you could do it." Angel really was happy for her friend.
Angel looked at the ball and the she looked at Marsha. "Yes okay then." Angel looked at the ball, she was going to make sure she missed her friend. "Depulso!!" Angel did the wand movement and then she watched as the ball left her friends hand. "Look." Angel smiled, this was just so amazing and now she had to do it again and she was looking forwards to it.

She did feel a little bad for not giving Zeke the chance to tell Hady.
She was buying it and this was good news as far as he was concerned. 'Just' had a sense of finality he wasn't willing to accept, 'a date' was much more preferable. He knew she didn't agree to it, she didn't need to say, but he nodded to show his understanding nonetheless. "But you will..." he informed playfully, smirking for good measure. It was as much a tease as it was a sincere statement. The Gryffindor had dreams.
It was also interesting to note that she hadn't dismissed his idea of announcing to all of Hogwarts that he had a date with her, and so the idea became an appealing one. He had been waiting for an opportune moment to mount the staff table during breakfast or dinner anyway... but perhaps he'd wait with that idea. Keep it up his sleeve for the right time, whenever that might be, whatever it might be for. Either way, she knew he appreciated it right? The non-secret thing.
He was staring into her eyes, and he couldn't help but wish that Hogsmeade weekend could be this weekend. Could it? Please? His patience was limited.
Zeke returned the hand squeeze, changing his grip to interlock his fingers with hers... somehow it made him feel closer to her.
...
And... okay then.
Things were starting to make sense now. Kind of. While it didn't explain everything that had happened since that night, the way Hady behaved was easier to understand. "That would explain why she was being weird," he decided, because... what other reason was there? He wasn't bothered at all that Maggie told her, it was... what it was, and it wasn't as if he was intentionally keeping Hady in the dark. Maggie had been the one to tell him he couldn't speak of it to anyone... not that it was something he would have brought up in conversation with his friend anyway, that'd be plain weird. Oh well.. maybe she just needed to, get used to the idea?

She would?
Maggie....blushed slightly, then rolled her eyes and gave him a gentle push. "Cheeky." Shaking her head, she just watched him for a moment. "You'll have to reaaaaaally impress me, you know." She was kind of playing with him because to be honest she didn't really know what she was looking for either. What it would 'take' for her to say yes to THAT question. Would she just know? Or should she just say yes if he were to ask again and just go from there? No harm done and stuff. She would have to think about that.
And to be honest she hadn't taken his 'broadcast' comment seriously.
Don't actually broadcast it, gosh Zeke.
It was starting to get cold, just sitting here on the ground. Maggie shifted slightly but didn't get up just yet. Although she would've preferred a comfy couch and just being inside in general, they were still talking. About Hady now. Something she'd kind of sort of messed up it seemed. Maggie bit her lip, not entirely sure if she should tell him about the rest of her conversation with Hady. Probably not. Once again, girl code and all that.
"Are you two okay now?" She eventually asked, watching Zeke curiously.

I wouldn't expect any less... only the very best for a princess, right?" And yes, he still thought her a princess, but not at all in a bad way. He would try, of course he would try, but he hoped she knew he was a boy and that automatically made him moderately hopeless.
He'd be needing Kaycee's advice after all.
And how their conversation had turned he didn't quite understand, but it did.
Were they okay? ...
"I didn't realise we weren't okay," he replied honestly, brows raised with curiosity. Did he want to know? "I mean, it was weird, but... I haven't noticed anything in classes." Perhaps though, the absence of time with her outside of class was still a factor he hadn't considered. Whoops? Was this his fault?

Marsha grinned as Angel helped her to celebrate her victory. ”That worked much better than in class! I read up on it in my books this morning before coming out here… it must have helped or something.” Giggling, she held her hand out straight for Angel to take her turn and couldn’t help her own whooping as the ball vanished from her hand. ”Congratulations!” She said jumping, excitedly up and down on the spot.
WHOOOOOOOO. They were so getting better at this.
Looking at the ball that had once again made its way back to Angel when she had banished it, the Welsh Lion held her wand our ready to once again slow the balls descent. Try throwing it higher or faster or something? I want to see if I can still slow that momentum-” she thought that was the right word… ”-down.” Giggling wildly, she took a few deep breaths as the ball was launched into the air for her. ”Arresto Momentum!” She called out firmly, then giggled as the ball seemed to be moving through a glooooopy syrup.
”Y’know, I know this is really handy in Quidditch when the Quaffle falls and all… but its really funny to watch when you aren’t in the mad heat of a game.” Due to Angel throwing it so high, she had plenty of time to move directly under the falling ball so that she could catch it.

And he was calling her princess again.
Smirking slightly, Maggie shook her head again. Of course the date as such would have to be impressive too - because, like, she wasn't just anyone - but that wasn't necessarily what she'd meant. "I was talking about you making things up to me." She gave him a meaningful look with her head slightly tilted to the side. "And like, show me I can trust you." Might as well put some thought into this, Zeke. Maggie definitely was.
Gosh, boys, seriously. So clueless. She rolled her eyes at his reply before getting up off the grass. Maggie was getting cold out here. The heat and adrenaline she'd felt from being a dog had left her body so now she was shivering slightly. She looked down at him, expecting him to get up too. "You just said things were weird between you two." No? Was she reading into this? Because she did feel somewhat responsible for it seeing as she'd told Hady to talk to Zeke about stuff.

"I'm going to banish the ball to you." Angel smiled as she put the ball down on the ground.
"DepulSAM!!!!!!!!!!" Angel was totally shocked when nothing happened, she looked at the ball and then giggled, who was this Sam guy that she was thinking of or was it a girl, anywhere she didn't think she knew anyone called Sam except for a classmate in her primary School day.
"Depulso!" Angel did the wand movement and she looked at her friend as the ball went over to her. "Hey look, I sent the ball back to you." Angel did a little jig.

Only that had been before....well before today.
He had this, or at least, he thought he had this. Apparently not?
...
"Oh." Yeah, OOHHH...Well that too, that would be a factor in it all, but yeah, so. He still needed to figure how to do that, the whole making it up to her thing. It wasn't something he'd ever had to do before, but he knew it would take more than a few nice gestures or fancy words. He'd have to show he meant it... somehow. This was something else he'd have to research, but who to ask wasn't clear at the minute. "I will, you'll see," he replied sincerely, no grinning or teasing or anything of that nature to accompany his words. Just pure sincerity. He was capable of it.
Never in a million years did he think he would even consider such effort for a girl... but Maggie wasn't just a girl. She was much much more than that, and with the detention and the time apart he knew one thing for certain: he missed her and her lips.
Hastily he followed Maggie's lead in getting up, not realising she wanted to move off until now. But before he could think to ask she was questioning the Hady experience. "Yeah, but it was just once, and not for long, so... I dunno." He shrugged. He was sure it was all fine, he couldn't think why it wouldn't be.
"You cold?" he asked, suddenly realising the air was crisper than he remembered it being.
Angel noticed that the ball hadn't quiet gone towards Marsha and so she lined up her wand with the ball and concentrated really hard. "I know it was your go but I wanted to make sure the ball came fully to you." Angel beamed as she thought about the spell she was about to do. "Depulso!!" Angel did the wand movement and then she watched as the spell worked and the ball ended up at Marsha feet. "I hope you didn't mind me doing that." Angel hoped her friend wouldn't be cross.
Yes, that.
Maggie hadn't meant to make this conversation more serious than it had to be. She should stop mentioning that he'd abandoned her in detention. It made her seem a lot more vulnerable than she wanted to appear. So smirked, hoping it looked genuine enough for him not to notice it was fake. "We'll see." And that was it. The way he was being all serious all of a sudden made her uncomfortable. So he could stop now.
Things were just weird between them once? What did that mean??
She blinked, giving him a confused look. "Why was it weird?" Maggie asked slowly, watching him. Weird could mean a lot of things now that she thought of it. Like, what kind of weird. Had they actually talked about feelings like Maggie had suggested they should? Or no? Maybe it was something else entirely. ?????
Cold? Maggie was too lost in thought to take advantage of the question. So instead she just shrugged and nodded. "Mhm. A little. Let's go inside." Where it was warm. Or at least warmER than out here.

We'll see. SHE WAS TEASING HIM... but he would accept the challenge and rise to it too. "Uh huh," he mused, bumping against her gently... unlike when he was in wolf form, what an oversight that had been. Zeke had time to fix things though, so, no dramas, he was confident he could be redeemed.
And really, he didn't like drama, he didn't DO drama, so this whole Hady thing was not going to be blown out of proportion.
He shrugged, unsure how to explain the experience. Not that he forgot the awkward, he hadn't so THAT was still weird.
Pulling off his jumper, Zeke held it out to Maggie, she was welcome to it, "Here, at least until we get inside."

Marsha couldn’t help the giggle that escaped her lips at depulsam. She wasn’t silly enough to think that she had never mucked or that she was going to be perfect at classes as she got older - but it still made her grin and giggly. Though, as soon as Angel said the charm again, it worked instantly and she whoops happily, clapping her hands as the ball came towards her. Though… was there a hill there? The ball was rolling to the side of them. Huh.
Oh, just as she went to walk to get it - it was moving again!
Laughing, the redhead looked up to see Angel beaming at her. ”No worries! You’re doing awesome. Depulso looks really hard to get to work properly.” She said nodding her head. ”I’m super proud of you! You’re getting better with each turn! Okay… let’s see if I can get this spell to work again.” Stooping, she picked up the ball and looking at it grinned.
”I’m going to throw it high and then cast the spell… Want to see if you can catch it on the way down?” Grinning she launched the ball as high into the air as she could while still sending it in Angel’s direction. She lifted her wand and taking a deep breath said ”Arresto Momentum!” and then burst into giggles as once again, the ball fell in super-slow motion. That charm was awesome. Silently, she wondered if it would work for people too…

Partner, partner, he needed a PARTNER, already.
Having collected a ball from outside Professor Baxter's office, Phillip bounced it aaaaaaaaaaaaall the way out to the grounds. It was fun, up until the moment where he started worrying that he would find NO ONE. NO ONE AT ALL. Why? Because everyone liked to move around in GROUPS. The first year watched a group of older students walk past talking about something that sounded a lot like older people things.
The boy ended up stopping somewhere near the Whomping Willow -- not TOO near, he wasn't DUMB, HELLO?! -- and looked out across the grounds. This was starting to look like a school-wide game of hide and seek and he was LOSING and he DID NOT like that! Let him W I N, darn it.
So, the Slytherin bounced the ball on the ground a few times before chucking it UP UP UP into the air, as FAR up as he could throw. Just don't get hit by the Willow's branches, okay ball?

Daxton had actually had zero intentions of doing his Charms homework, considering it a pointless exercise when you were incapable of getting any spells to actually work, and also downright annoying that they had to work with someone else. But, in the end, boredom had driven him to go and collect a ball from outside Baxter's office. He did not intend to look for a partner, having instead planned to work on his own and do things his own way, and had wandered off into the grounds, tossing the ball up into the air and catching it as he went, looking for a quiet place to practice.
The Whomping Willow was the only outdoorsy place that seemed to really draw Daxton in. He felt he could relate to the flailing tree. Solitary, friendless, unapproachable, and likely to give anyone who got too close one heck of a punch. He was very in tune to the violent nature of the tree, and so that was where he ended up.
There was another boy here too. A Slytherin boy whom Daxton had unintentionally followed down here, hoping that he would splinter off into a different direction and leave Daxton to relax by the tree on his own. Daxton watched the boy - Romalotti... Phillip, he thought his name was - from a distance, noting that he too had one of the balls provided for Charms homework. After a long moment of consideration, Daxton approached, just in time to watch him throw the ball up high. He stopped and stood silently beside him, looking up into the air and watching the progress of the ball.

Did Phillip notice someone else approaching him? Noo! Of COURSE not. Why would he when he had a BALL to watch? His short attention span meant that he was concentrating on the ball and the ball only. He was meant to stop it, wasn't he? This would be good practice before he found a partner -- because he WAS going to find one -- to play catch and slow down with.
So, he raised his wand up into the air and pointed it straight at the descending ball. "Arreeeeeeeeeeesto Momeeeeeen--"
THWACK!
.......................... tum?
The first year STARED as the ball got too close to the willow and the tree reached out one of its branches and thwacked -- THAT'S RIGHT, THWACKED! -- the ball away! "Nooooooooooo!" he whispered loudly, as the ball flew... of... uh... somewhere. If it broke a window, he was dead. If it did and word got out to his mum, he was going to start digging his grave now.
GU--
And to make it worse, he only JUST saw the person -- Daxton, was it? -- standing near him. Yes, he SAW you. "How long have you been standing here?" SQUINT.

Uh, wait....... "You have a BALL."
Daxton blinked, watching the ball go sailing off into the distance, thinking that this boy seemed to have a fundamental misunderstanding of the Charms assignment, if indeed that was what he was doing at all. Because he was having his doubts, because... this... this was not what they were supposed to be doing.
He was still watching the ball when Phillip Romalotti started speaking to him. Daxton did not grace him with a response at first, and simply continued watching the ball until it had soared out of his range of vision. Then he looked at the Slytherin, and blinked.
Was he expecting to get an answer to that question? Because he was not going to get one. It seemed that one was not necessary, however, because all too soon the Slytherin boy had taken to stating the obvious at him instead. Daxton looked to the ball he held in his hand, nodded his head, and tossed it up into the air again before catching it.
Yes.
Yes he did.
What of it?

Yes.
Yes he did.

Either Daxton was silently judging him or he simply did not care and Phillip wasn't sure which one he preferred. If he was being judged then, clearly, he'd done something BAD but if he didn't care........ uh, he couldn't be convinced to do the homework with him, could he? And he R E A L L Y needed a partner.
So, cue an innocent, sweet smile spreading across his face. Hey.
And then there was nodding. "Brilliant!" he said, skipping off a little way away. Not somewhere TOO far away but not too close either. This was meant to be a CHALLENGE, after all. "You can throw it at me and I'll try and slow it down and catch it and THEN we'll swap."
Pause.
"Are you going to do the homework with me?" P L E A S E say yes. He wanted to go and have some custard already.

What on earth was Phillip Romalotti doing with his face?
Daxton thought he must be smiling, but could not for the life of him figure out what had prompted said smile. He blinked again, and considered the matter, but before he had much chance to make any reasonable deductions, the other boy was walking - no, wait... not walking, skipping - away. He was about to consider this iteraction good and finished, but then the Romalotti boy was facing him and talking to him again, just from a greater distance now.
For a moment, Daxton only stood there, now trying to figure out when exactly he had agreed to doing the Charms homework with this boy, because it seemed to him as though that was what was suddenly happening. He looked down at the ball in his hand, and then back at the Slytherin, still just thinking, trying to remember. He could not possibly have forgotten agreeing to this; his memory was far too dependable for that to be an option. But then it all made slightly more sense, when Phillip Romalotti did actually ask, and Daxton realised he had probably got confused or something. Perhaps he was slow.
The fact of the matter was that, if Daxton wanted to do this homework properly, he would require a partner, and here was one right here. He stood and thought a little more, and then finally nodded his head. Sure, he would do the homework with him. Why not?
Not a second later, Daxton had wound his arm back and threw the ball right at Phillip Romalotti, forgetting (or perhaps not even realising) he should have given him some warning first, forgetting (or perhaps not even realising) that it was not necessary to throw the ball at full force.

And really, he didn't like drama, he didn't DO drama, so this whole Hady thing was not going to be blown out of proportion.
He shrugged, unsure how to explain the experience. "She was asking questions about what had happened on detention, but they kind of led to asking questions about why I left you, then she mentioned that you were upset by that........." yeah, HE KNEW, "but it was weird because, even though she was asking, she didn't seem interested, and awkward silence followed." Did she know what he meant? Like, it was freaky quiet, just off, wrong. "But then we changed the topic and all was fine, it was normal." Not that he forgot the awkward, he hadn't so THAT was still weird.
Pulling off his jumper, Zeke held it out to Maggie, she was welcome to it, "Here, at least until we get inside."
Zeke was extremely sure of himself, wasn't he?
Maggie liked that.
What Maggie DIDN'T like was this awkwardness with Hady. Shuffling a little closer to him for warmth she listened to him recounting their conversation. Oh no. This didn't sound good. But it seemed like at least the other girl hadn't brought up what she'd told her to bring up. Which was something at least. That would've been bad timing considering what Zeke had told her just a few moments ago. "Right." Pause. "Sorry." Why did she keep apologizing? Only it had kind of been her fault and that had NOT been her intention at all. The opposite really. At least that's what she'd thought. Now she wasn't so sure anymore.
Taking a step back she only now realized what he was doing. Oh. That was....nice. "Thank you." Maggie put it on on top of her own, then ran her fingers through her hair to make sure they weren't tangled up in weird places now. Putting on sweaters did that to hair sometimes. It was annoying. "Okay, let's go." Because now HE probably would get cold soon. Maggie took his arm and then started walking back up to the castle.
It would take a lot longer than it had taken them to come down here.
Y'know, they could've probably done this whole transformation thing inside of the castle if he really thought about it. It would've meant less walking around for sure, seeing as they were both up in the towers. But Zander didn't mind the walking. Especially since it meant he'd get to hold Sophie's hand the entire way over. He liked holding her hand. And he liked other people seeing him holding her hand. As if he were shouting 'YEAH, SOPHIE BROWN IS MY GIRLFRIEND, HOW GREAT IS THAT!??!?'. Ahem.
So chill.
He was also grinning all goofy the entire way to the grounds. But alas, here they were. Still, he didn't let go of her hand right away. "So, you ready to do this?" Because actually, Zander wasn't sure if he fancied turning into an animal. Sure it'd be nice getting to run around the grounds carefree for a little bit and call it his homework, but also...
Did he really want to turn into an animal? Nah. Not really. He liked running around the grounds goofing off in human form too. He also just had one too many bad potions homework experiences. So. Uh. Once Sophie took a sip of her potion, then he'd take a sip of his too. Fair? Fair.
Sophie was planning on transforming into an eagle, so there was no WAY she'd stay inside for this. Plus, she had definitely wanted to make this long trek out to the willow, too, because that meant she got to hold Zander's hand and make SURE everyone outside saw them being cutesy together. She was proud of her boyfriend, okay? He was cute, he was funny, he was charming, he was sweet, he was kind, he was compassionate, he was smart, he was witty, he was lovable, he was a total babe and the most stunning Head Boy Hogwarts had probably ever seen...
Was she ready? "M'always ready," she nodded, grinning big and squeezing Zander's hand one last time before reaching into the bag slung over her shoulder, pulling out her corked vial of potion, and set her bag off to the side.
"We're not gonna be able to communicate when we're animals, so uh... what should we do when we're animals? Y'wanna... race somewhere? See if the eagle can beat the lion?" She uncorked the vial, ready to drink it, her smile brightening further - then quickly stood on her tippy-toes and stole a brief kiss from the Gryffindor. "...That was just in case our potions kill us or somethin'. Y'never know, right?" Just to be SAFE.

"Of course you are," he gave her a skeptical look, but of course she definitely was always ready. You could literally throw the most random situation at Sophie Brown and she'd know how to handle it PLUS SOME. It was a quality of hers that Zander admired... er.... Not surprising, yeah? Ahem. Riiiiiiight. Sophie Brown was ready. Which meant, he had to be ready even if he didn't really feel ready... And come to think of it, he was never really ready for a potions homework assignment. They were sticky. Always.
That's why he was glad to be around Sophie Brown for this one. 'Cause with Soph around, what could possibly go wrong? She was always ready. See, it came in handy. Zander was like a walking disaster and Sophie was like the walking solution. All is well in the land of Hogwarts for another day. Thanks, Sophie Brown. What would the world do without you? Aheeeeeeem.
What? He was only really half listening when she raised that question. Huh. But she did have a good point. Zander hadn't really thought of that before. He did know that he'd still have his own human thoughts, but there wouldn't be any way to translate his thoughts to Soph... Huh. Well, uh, that could be a problem, right? Uuuuuuuum. "Not a chance, Soph! You're on!!" A race it was. He was so down. And if Astronomy hadn't shown her anything, he would have no mercy. Girlfriend or not. What kind of competitive Gryffindor would he be otherwise, right? Right.
And as she uncorked her own potion, Zander reached into his pocket to grab for his own, unscrewing it as well. "Um, right," he smiled, blushing brightly. And well, "Bottoms up!"
