The Royal Observatory, Greenwich played a major role in the history of astronomy and navigation, and is best known as the location of the prime meridian. The observatory is situated on a hill in Greenwich Park, overlooking the River Thames.
The group lands in an area hidden from all muggle gazes in thanks to several large bushes. Hopefully no one has become too queasy from the trip, but if you have those bushes are right there to...you know...help you out. After handing the portkeys back to Professor Flamsteed, he instructs you to keep your bum bags with your special entry tickets and muggle money on your person. REMEMBER! Under NO circumstances are you to break the The International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy. After making your way up the hill as a group, you approach the main gate and are greeted by a sharply dressed docent in dark purple who waves as you pass with a cheerful, "Welcome to the Royal Observatory, Greenwich!"
Now through the main entrance, you find yourselves to the left of the Meridian Courtyard, as Professor Flamsteed reminds you by pointing to the guide maps you picked up while still in the Astronomy classroom at Hogwarts. After instructing you all to get them out and briefly going over the various activities he hopes you will be sure to take a look at before needing to catch the portkeys. "Don't forget, meet back at our meeting location no later than 3:15," he sternly reminds the group. "Now get a move on and enjoy your day of scientific inquiry and discovery!"
ACTIVITIES OOC: you do NOT need to do every single one of these activities for full participation credit for this lesson. I would like you to pick AT LEAST 2, ideally 3, and RP accordingly. There is no real post minimum for each activity as long as the content is there. Just have fun with things and, remember, your character is in MUGGLEDOM.
Also, since we are all RPing in the SAME thread, please please PLEASE title your post with the LOCATION & ACTIVITY with which your character is participating in so we can all keep track of where we all are and find others to play with PLEASE AND THANK YOU!
Think of a planetarium as a tour bus of the Universe taking you on amazing journeys to explore and experience the wonders of the night sky.
Combining real images from spacecraft and telescopes with advanced CGI, all projected onto a fully immersive dome, the Planetarium can fly you into the heart of the Sun, transport you to distant galaxies, show you the birth of a star or land you on Mars.
The Peter Harrison Planetarium at the Royal Observatory, Greenwich is now London’s only planetarium, and features state-of-the-art HD projection technology, visualisations based on real scientific data and real astronomers and seats 120.
Reflecting ourselves and the universe around us, mirrors can take many forms and they are vital components in many of the telescopes which astronomers have used to explore and understand the Universe. Artist Matthew Luck Galpin used his blacksmithing skills to rework meteorites by heating, hammering, grinding and polishing them into mirrors called ‘Anvilled Stars’.
This process echoes the formation of the planets, pulled together and shaped by gravity, heat and rotation. The meteorites themselves formed when the Solar System was young; they are the left-over remnants of the material from which the planets were made, the building blocks of the Earth and everything on it.
Now you can create one too! Simply present the special ticket to one of the three blacksmiths and they will help you through the process so you can take home a truly one of a kind souvenir.
Astronomy Inspires gallery
SPOILER!!: description
See how the universe expanded from the smallest and how our solar system was formed. The Astronomy Inspires gallery showcases an orrery from the 19th century which demonstrates the motion of the planets. Alongside is a state-of-the-art projection wall showing the how the Universe formed: from the Big Bang to now in 4 minutes! With many interactive displays, there is much you can discover about how the scientists mapped the seas and the stars!
Just past the entrance to this part of the Royal Observatory you will have the opportunity of touching a 4.500,000,000 year old meteorite! During the early life of the solar system the meteorites were part of the asteroid belt and thought to have reached earth between 6000-4000 years ago, falling in Campo De Ciela (Field of Heaven) in the Argentine desert after a journey of millions of years.
The 28-inch Greenwich refracting telescope is the largest of its kind in the UK and the seventh largest in the world. Completed in 1893 as a replacement for the 12¾-inch Merz that originally occupied its position, it was commissioned in 1885 by William Christie, Astronomer Royal between 1881 and 1911. It was designed to keep the Royal Observatory at the forefront of contemporary astronomy and more active in the growing disciplines of astrophysics and photography. The job of constructing the telescope was given to Howard Grubb, an Irish optical manufacturer who was then the world leader in the field.
Although the telescope was removed from Greenwich to Herstmonceaux in 1957, it was used for research into double star systems throughout its working life until its retirement in the late 1960s. It was returned to Greenwich in 1971, and has become a central part of educational programmes at the Royal Observatory. With the recent addition of a computer-aided guidance system and CCD camera, it continues to work as an excellent visual aid to observing the night sky.
While nighttime provides a more optimum environment, if you wait in the queue long enough you can take a peek through this telescope. We are sure you will still be able to see something - most likely a planet.
Flamsteed House is the original Observatory building at Greenwich, designed by Sir Christopher Wren in 1675 on the instructions of King Charles II. The Observatory was built on the site of Greenwich Castle, which originally belonged to Humphrey, Duke of Gloucester (brother of Henry V) and was often used as a guest house and hunting lodge by Henry VIII. Be sure to check out the two time galleries while you explore around here!
But that is not all Professor Flamsteed hopes you will see. Circled on all of your guidemaps is the Octagon Room. The room was designed to observe celestial events including eclipses, comets and planetary movements. However, the positioning of Flamsteed House meant that the original purpose of the Observatory could not be fulfilled from the Octagon Room. With big windows, the room was perfect for watching the sky, but not ideal for positional observations, because none of the walls were aligned with a meridian. Most important positional observations were actually made in a small 'shed' in the Observatory gardens, though King Charles II remained blissfully unaware of this. The telescopes are fully operational and ready for you to take a look through!
The bright red Time Ball on top of Flamsteed House is one of the world's earliest public time signals, distributing time to ships on the Thames and many Londoners. It was first used in 1833 and still operates today. To view the Time Ball you will need to exit the house and watch from the Meridian Courtyard. Each day, at 12.55, the time ball rises halfway up its mast. At 12.58 it rises all the way to the top. At 13.00 exactly, the ball falls, and so provides a signal to anyone who happens to be looking. Of course, if you were looking the wrong way, you had to wait until the next day before it happened again.
Meridian Courtyard
SPOILER!!: description
Since the late 19th century, the Prime Meridian at Greenwich has served as the reference line for Greenwich Mean Time. It can now claim to be the centre of world time, and was the official starting point for the new Millennium. 22 October 2009 marked the 125th anniversary of the Greenwich Meridian as the Prime Meridian of the World.
The meridian line in Greenwich represents the Prime Meridian of the world, Longitude Zero (0° 0' 0"). Every place on the Earth is measured in terms of its angle east or west from this line. To stand astride the line is to have one foot in the eastern and one foot in the western hemisphere of the earth – just as the Equator divides the northern and southern hemispheres.
The Prime Meridian at Greenwich passes through a massive special telescope called a transit circle. The transit circle was built by Sir George Airy, the seventh Astronomer Royal, in 1850. The cross-hairs seen in the eyepiece of this transit circle define Longitude 0° for the world.
The 'universal day' is measured from the Prime Meridian. It is the average of a year's worth of 'natural' days and is a scientific time scale used irrespective of time zones.
Coolest thing to do here? Walk and/or straddle the Meridian Line, which represents the Prime Meridian of the World – Longitude 0º!
Although the name Astronomers’ Garden is recent, this is the oldest of the gardens at the Observatory, the land having been enclosed when the Observatory was built in the 1670's. Now trapezoid in shape, it has had various names, including: ‘The Lawn’, ‘The Terrace Lawn’, ‘The Terrace Garden’, ‘The Upper Garden’ and more recently, ‘The Home of Time Garden’ (1998–2008). The present name, ‘The Astronomers’ Garden’ is a contrivance dating from 2009.
Unique to this year, the garden plays host to a special exhibit called Longitude Punk’d to celebrate the 260th anniversary of the Longitude Act being repealed. A show where Astronomer Royal John Flamsteed appears in thanks to his time machine is both educational and entertaining. Best of all? After the show is finished you can go up and explore the time machine and other steampunk elements including photoshoot opportunities in costume and wigs with your choice of steampunk prop (including a vehicle and telescope!)
Gift Shop & Cafe
SPOILER!!: description
While you won’t find astronaut ice cream here, there is still plenty to spend your muggle money on! Next door to the gift shop is a humble little cafe that offers choices such as sandwiches, gratins and other classics - including stellar parfaits.
Checking his sundial watch, the professor gleefully announces that everyone is free to go about as you please...KEEPING CERTAIN THINGS IN MIND! And mentions something about living long and prospering before running off himself to bask in the glory of the day.
Have fun and be smart!

"This is pretty cool, right? I mean, if you think about it, everyone in the world is checking their watches in their own timezones based on this spot. We're the center of everything. I'm never the center, so..." She tilted her head to one side. "I'm trying to soak in how it feels. It feels... pretty normal, really. So nevermind!"
They were! They were the center of everything. Nice. Oliver was not usually the center of attention. That was Ellery. He didn't really mind, but this was cool too. He was in the center of the WORLD. Dot was too. She should be all the time.
He laughed. Yeah, it just felt like normal. It only felt cool if he thought really hard about exactly what it meant to be standing in that spot. But he was not going to constantly think that hard about it. He stood on one side of the line and grinned at Dot, who was still straddling the line.
"If you stand on that side, then we'll be in different hemispheres!" How cool was that?
...Candice?!! Why was she dragging him with her??! Deep sigh. Fineeeee....Inside the planetarium,Henric walked in and chose a seat at the far end of the corner. Oh,but they weren't alone ...three *ehem* older pretty muggle female students were soon occupying the seat next to him and he was the only boy in that row apparently. Umm...okay...act cool..Henric.No need to feel awkward. Well, what fifteen year old boy didn't,hmm? One of them even 'accidentally' brushed her hand against his arm which caused him to jump a little. Thank merlin...the room was too dark to see anything or else his face would be a dead giveaway. His face was turning crimson red in colour by now.The last thing he wanted to do was to appear flustered *coughs* in front of the three muggle ladies...oh and especially Candice. Anyway, it was getting hard to concentrate watching the movie showcase because those girls kept giggling and chit-chatting away while secretly using their muggle devices too. To be honest, it was getting annoying...really... to the point whereby he wished he could cast a silencio spell around him so he could watch the movie in peace. Henric let out another deeep sigh. Girls. Why were they so ...urgh.
"Yo Candice, where do you wanna go next?"he asked in a bored tone.
Its not long before she arrived at the Planetarium. Dragging Henric with her was not an easy task but thank Merlin he was a wiling subject.
The Planetarium was bigger than her thought it would be. It said today they're playing the From Earth to the Universe show. Sounds interesting. "Let's go and see the show" She said and dragged Henric with her. The inside of the Planetarium was much more interesting than the outside. She took an empty seat next to the Hufflepuff. As soon as the show started, Candice was amazed at the technology. The stars. The Sun. The Planets. Its really beautiful. But apparently she was the only one who's paying attention to the show since her company was busy acting 'I'm a cool guy'. Yes, Nicolei, she did notice his awkward behavior. At first she thought the boy was afraid of dark and about to tease him but then she noticed a muggle girl sitting next to him. Sigh. Boys always be boys.
A half hour later, the show was finished. Finally! She did enjoy the show but she's not a fan of those giggling girls. They're annoying.
Where she want to go next? "Astronomers' Garden!" She really wanted to go to that place after she read the pamphlet. "Let's go, slowpoke!" And she was back dragging Henric towards their next destination.

DID end up landing with the other groups around, including Flamsteed, so it looked like they HADN'T been transported somewhere else. Phew. That was a relief.
Right after identifying that they'd gotten there safely, Soph surveyed her group at large. She politely pretended not to see Rooney get sick, but Henric was fine, so were Davie and Blaise, and by the time she looked back to see how Rooney was recovering... the boy had disappeared, his retreating back as he ran toward the observatory signaling his clear excitement. Well. That was good, wasn't it?
Thankful that her group was well and accounted for, Soph turned her gaze toward Zander's group that was now dissipating and smiled at the sight of him looking around, no doubt for her, and she hurried over to him cheerfully, looping his arm with hers. "Hi. Wanna go learn some stuff?" She was already walking them toward the observatory, her smile bright, and she shot a glance back around first at Dakest, then at Flamsteed. She wanted BOTH of them to come with them. "D'you mind gettin' together with Flammy and Dakest later? It's our last field trip probably EVER with them and it'd be fun to learn a little with them, 'specially with Flammy. He'd probably love the opportunity to nerd out over some stuff with us and go super in depth explaining things to us, don'tcha thing? It'd enhance our learning experience and all." Eh, Flammy? Ehhhh? Wouldn't he LOVE that?
Ahem. No children. Right. He wasn't a father. They weren't his. Right.
But luckily he was pretty sure all his the kids in his group were accounted for. So luckily, he was safe. Ahem. Would've been hard trying to explain that one to Professor Flamsteed.... Like uh, I did tell them to hang on tight, sir? Ahem. So good thing that situation was avoided all together, amiright or amiright?!
But uh, anyways. Before he could even think about trying to find Sophie Brown, it seemed as though she was already one step ahead, as usual. "Yeah, I'm always down for learning stuff," lie. But uh, field trip stuff he was always down for. Unless it was another one of Dakest's lame field trips to the broom closet because that was a total let down and Zander would not be made a fool of again. But they were already at this Royal Observatory, so clearly there was no trickery going on here. Thanks, Flamsteed you da illest.
Zander followed her lead, slightly tugging at her looped arm and giving her a goofy grin. "Uhhh.... Sure," he smiled deciding in the end that even though he wasn't normally one to soak in Flamsteeds speeches about all things space and life, he'd miss it one day probably. So why not? "Yeah, that's fine by me." He kind of wanted to hear it too in all honesty. Ahem. What?
"Wanna go to the planetarium first real quick?" Y'know before they ran after Flamsteed?

While he had not missed the whole bum bag incident - rather impossible to given the aroma - the Astronomy professor was rather a little too overcome with emotion to act quickly enough to resolve the problem. Although it seemed to on its own so kudo points to you, kids. He was not one to get sentimental often, but after the events of last term it was difficult not to. Especially in a location with so much family history.
Not that he was becoming all misty eyed or anything. He was holding it together just fine and resembled a giddy toddler with a lollipop being dangled in front of its nose.
He DID manage to catch the...er...whatever that look was that Miss Brown was making in his direction and offered her a salute in reply before making his way towards the Flamsteed house.

Zander was always down for learning stuff? Cute of him to say, even though Soph didn't buy it one bit. Still, she continued to look chipper as ever as they walked along, her eyes shiny with elation and enthusiasm for ALL THE FUN THINGS THAT WERE AHEAD OF THEM.
...But. FLAMMY. There he was, headed straight for... she didn't know what that place was, but Soph tugged right back on Zander's arm, her eyes still dancing with delight. "We should follow him. He looks way too excited for it to just be 'bout normal astronomy stuff. We should go with him. Bet he's goin' to see the BEST exhibit first and that's why he looks like he's about to burst."
The other things could wait. "Bet since he's, like, worked for NASA and stuff, he can get us in for behind-the-scenes kinda stuff and maybe special tours and all kindsa stuff, too. ASTRONOMER ROYAL FLAMSTEED," Soph called, tugging Zander into a jog to catch up with the man just before he reached the house. "We're hangin' with you. Because you're cool."
Sneaky brown-nosers with hidden agendas? Perhaps, and there was no doubt they weren't going to fool him, but WHAT WAS THIS PLACE? WHAT WAS HE SO GIDDY FOR?
Its not long before she arrived at the Planetarium. Dragging Henric with her was not an easy task but thank Merlin he was a wiling subject.

"Don't call me slowpoke,I have a name...use it,"Henric retorted simply. Couldn't he have a nice quiet time for once too? Candice kept dragging him to follow her,his arm felt it like was going to fall off at any moment with all the pulling and the tugging. Sigh. As they made their way towards the Astronomy Garden, he realised he was holding onto her bumbag for her.Wait..why was he carrying her bumbag again? Had he been carrying it all this while after the planetarium show? He frowned when he remembered it was when she asked him to hold it for her while she got her pamplet out. "Candice, you're supposed to take care of your own bag. I'm not your bag-carrier boy."Henric handed her bag to her with an eyebrow raised. If she wanted a bag-carrier boy, she could ask a first year to do it for her. Wasn't she good at manipulating others to her whim?
It was kind of cool how Professor Flamsteed shared the same surname with Astronomer Royal John Flamsteed. Was the astronomer his ancestor or something? It might be possible. They both shared a common interest towards astronomy, didn't they? He wondered if John Flamsteed was as eccentric man like how professor Flamsteed was now back in the days too? Oh..he bet his dragoncard on it. Come on..he built a time-machine for merlin sake. Coincidence? Nope.
He noticed there was a photoshooting area for the visitors to dress up in costumes and wigs. He chuckled,"Hey Candice,do you want to dress up and take a picture with them? I'll pay for the picture.Gentleman's honour." Honestly, he wanted to see her wearing that big wig on her head so he could have a good heartily laugh.

SPOILER!!: Zeke
Bleh, weird was weird, but he was over it.
When he was FINALLY able to get to his sandwich, he didn't waste any time in wolfing it down. It was a normal sandwich, nothing particularly out of the ordinary, but it was incredibly satisfying. And... was that horseradish cream in it? Zeke lifted the corner of his bread to see the things inside, and sure enough, a white-ish cream was there. Yum.
Hady needn't have worried about her parfait. When could sugar ever NOT taste good? He didn't think it was possible.
He'd taken another generous bite and was working on chewing it when Hady asked him about places of interest. Uuuuuuhhhhhh... well that was awkward. Zeke looked out the window for a second while he chewed his food - it would be rude of him to talk with his mouth full. But the second he swallowed, he provided the only answer he could give without lying. "Nothing." Mmmhhmm. That's right. Nothing. Nothing interested him here except for the food. He didn't think he'd need to know about any Prime Meredith anytime soon. He'd functioned perfectly well in society without it, so he was confident he could continue to do so.
Although.... "Apparently there's a really old rock or something we can touch here." He'd heard someone mention it while they were walking up. It sounded okay, kinda.
Hady was quiet while she ate her parfait mostly. Other then the question she had asked her friend across the table. Why the boy was examining his food she didn't know, unless maybe there was something on there he didn't particularly like? Anyhow she was more concerned about her own food. It's cold sugary goodness and the happiness it brought upon her with each spoonful.
Watching Zeke out the corner of her eye she noticed he had waited until he was finished swallowing before answering her. Thank you for that. No bits of food flying at her from his mouth thank you very much. His answer though she hadn't expected causing her to raise an eyebrow at him curiously. If nothing interested him why had he come? Not that it was important because even if he wasn't 'interested' in things around here didn't mean he couldn't have a good time.
Before she could answer though he was speaking again. Something about a rock. Well alright then she was cool with that if he didn't mind her tagging along. If he wanted to go on ahead by himself or with his other friends that was fine too. So she simply nodded her head to show she HAD been listening to him.

"Yes, I know you have a name, Nicolei." Don't be dramatic. Cue eyes roll. She didn't feel guilty dragging Henric around the Royal Observatory. Flamsteed didn't mentioned that they're not allowed to drag someone with them so its okay and beside she didn't have to wear that stupid fanny pack. It didn't go well with her clothes. In fact it didn't go well with anything. She was enjoying a free-fanny-pack-time when the Hufflepuff gave her fanny pack back. "But it look better on you." Her lower lip protruded in a sulky pout.
When they arrived at the Astronomers' garden, there's a John Flamsteed standing next to his time machine. WOAH! look at that thing. "Pssst. Nicolei, do you think we are allowed to touch the time machine?" Because she really REALLY want to touch that shinny thing. There's no sign that said 'Do Not Touch!' so it mean they're allowed to touch, right? RIGHT?
MUST TOUCH THE SHINNY THING...!!!!
As soon as the show finished, The Gryffindor went up to the time machine and got her hands on it. "WOAH!" Look at this thing. Look! It even had a Pirate Shipwheel!
Candice was still admiring the time machine when she heard Henric' voice asking about whether she'd like to have a picture. Picture? She turned around and saw what Henric was talking about. The costume look funny but she could wear it. The wig however........ OH! She got an idea. "Let's take a picture together." She quickly put the costume on and then put the wig on Henric' head. "There. Done. Come on." She choose the vehicle as their background and props.
"Say FLAMSTEED!" She mean John Flamsteed not Airey Flamsteed just to be clear here.

Hands shoved in his pockets, Rooney had walked slowly toward the Planetarium with no intention of picking up his speed so that he wouldn't need to throw up again. He already felt like the worst person in the world and wished he had a mint or something because he BET someone would smell it on him. Of course it was that reason, not because any kissing would be happening. WHO would he be kissing in a planetarium? WHO would he be kissing ever? Heck, he only kissed his Mama when she tucked him in at night. And then in the morning when he cuddled up to her with orange juice and toast.
When he finally did get to his intended area, he took a leaflet on details about it and something on the background of the film playing in there. He was just going to read up on it, watch it after it finished this first time and then explore some more.
OH. Hey, his leaflet said that you could propose to someone in here? FUN.

Nope. He still would not carry her bumbag for her."What's wrong with this bumbag? Just wear it over your shoulder like this...see."he suggested and showed her how he wore his yellow bumbag over his button up Fred-Perry collared basic and denim jacket. Meh,not to sound conceited...but...he could pull off anything in style with his Ray Bans shades propped on top of his head. "Don't be a spoilsport. I think it looks kind of cool, this is a retro look I'm pulling off,"he told her, wiggling his eyebrows.
He shrugged when she asked him if she could touch the time-machine,"Go for it,"he smirked. He would like to watch how she managed to sneak past Mr.John Flamsteed over there. After the reenactment showcase over, he had to stifle his laughter at Candice little antics. "Man...that girl just do whatever she wants." He shook his head at her before heading towards the photoshoot area.
"Nice dress,"he commented with a grin when he saw her in some 1700's century dress.Huh?"WHAT? I'm not wearing this wig!"Henric exclaimed as soon as he realised what she was about to do to him. But Candice was already pulling him beside her so they could stand in front of the photographer. Urgh! Whatever. He was NOT going to show his face wearing this ugly wig, he pulled down his shades just in time before smiling awkwardly in front of the camera.
----------
Henric paid for the photos and handed one to her."Here, don't tell anyone this is me in the photo." He took out his pamphlet to read the map again."Want to head to the Astronomers Gallery first or cafe next?" he asked Candice. He checked his watch to see the time, lunch period was in another half-an-hour or so... Wait...why did he care what she wanted to head to next? Weird.

The group of friends moved up to the telescope once the last set of people had finished looking through the eyepiece. Such a small object that maneuvered such a large telescope, the object taking up most of the room and soaring above their heads, out and towards the sky. Benny allowed Paulina her turn searching the night sky that resided above the atmosphere, before it was his turn and his blue eyes were kept wide as he searched for something familiar.
Oh look...there was one. Not a planet he believed, maybe a star or something. It was different seeing it directly then using the ones at school that only caught so far into the night sky. "Probably should have double checked what should be seen before we left," he mused, straightening and stepping away to allow Adi to have his own time with the telescope. Maybe his friend would have some better luck.
Which it seemed so, if what the badger was saying was true. "Are you looking in the right direction..." Benny teases his friend as his comment about Mars.

Hur hur. Benny had jokes. "I'm pretty sure. I think I saw an alien waving at me,'' Adi joked back as he pulled back from the telescope, all three of them having looked through the thing. But yeah, he agreed with his bestie. They should have double checked. But no matter. At least they had been able to look through it and spot something.
But they were done here, yes? Where to go next? Since neither of his field trip buddies answered when he asked the question earlier, Adi grabbed his map again. "The garden?'' That was mostly for Polly's benefit. Sure that they would agree, he set off in the Garden's direction.

She turned to look at him and saw the description next to the dress. Oh, right. Reading. That was a thing. Norah bent over to read the sign, too. It didn't appear to be worn in the wedding, but the groom did talk about it because he'd seen Margaret whatever-her-name-was wearing it at the society thingy. She didn't correct him, though, just in case she'd been the one to read it wrong. And because being corrected didn't always feel too wonderful. "Isn't it lovely? So creative 'n different. If people really like space they should be able to wear a dress made out of the solar system too, it's only fair." Hence the flowery bum bag. She loved flowers, so flowery bag it was. Who cared if everybody else would think it was strange? If there was one thing to be confident in, it was what she wore. Nobody was allowed to tell her that was wrong. Nobody.
Norah followed his finger until she saw the telescopes too. "There's only one way to find out." That way was trying, if that wasn't obvious. She walked-not-ran over to the telescopes, because after her initial shouting she was determined to be on her best behavior. "I wonder why they're shaped like that," she said, before putting her eye to one of the eyepieces. "I see a bunch of bright sky." She squinted into the eyepiece. Either she was doing this wrong, or it was much more exciting to observe the sky at night time. "Whaddya think?"
“I wouldn’t say its lovely but ….different?” honestly, he did not like the dress. Not at all. It just looked weird to him. He however agree with Norah that people should be able to wear a dress like this if they loved space so much. But he personally did not like this dress.
Following behind the Prefect, Yoongi waited for her to look through the eye piece and laughed when she said she only saw a bunch of bright sky. “I’m actually wondering why you’re looking at the sky when a star is right here” He waved his hands a bit to show that he meant himself of course. He moved to the telescope as well and peered through it. Yup, she was right. “just blue sky” Well that was boring wasn’t it? he ever told that he did not like Astronomy?
As he straightened up, Yoongi looked around the Flamsteed House and snapped his fingers suddenly. “Hey, do you know of the Professor is related? I mean, Flamsteed house. Astronomers. And why has he never told this before? I mean if I came from a famous family I would love to mention it to people you know?” or was that just him?
As he thought, he looked out of the window and saw a bird flying by. This bird reminded him of something else he had wanted to say to Norah but never had the chance because they didn’t really see each other. Which he thought was a shame but he knew she was in her OWL year. So she probably had to study a lot. “by the way…”he grinned suddenly. “Thanks for the Christmas card , Santa” he said and nudged her side slightly. “It was cute. Do you know who send yours?” cause he was curious who she suspected.

Somehow Paulina was getting the feeling that Adi was rather impatient for it to be their turn. It was hard not to laugh, and she wasn't surprised that there were a lot of people here. She didn't like crowds much because they made her uncomfortable, but at least she was here with her friends; that made them easier for her to deal with.
Soon enough it was there turn to go, and Paulina smiled in thanks as Benny was a gentleman and let her use the telescope first. Gryffindor chivalry for you.
Looking thpugh the telescope, she was amazed. It would be so cool if Hogwarts could afford this kind of equipment though she felt that the telescopes there were awesome as well. This one was just so BIG.
Maybe she would be able to spot a planet, but it seemed that she was not having any real luck. she WAS able to make out a constellation, however. "I think I can see Orion! It looks like a guy with a bow, so I don't know what else it could be." That was pretty neat though it had taken her a bit of navigating before she had been able to find it.
Benny also spotted a constellation during his turn, and Paulina was curious as to which one it had been but he couldn't seem to remember what it was called. Oh well. Adi made her laugh when he made the alien comment. "Of course you did." He was so silly.
She didn't really want to stop looking at the night sky, but Paulina knew that it was only fair to give other people a chance instead of hogging it again.

She shifted to the other side of the line and gave Olly a salute. As he'd just suggested, they were now in opposite hemispheres, and yet they were also only a few feet away from each other. Science (geography?) was mystifying.
"Do you want to go get a snack with me? I was thinking of heading to the cafe, and I would like company." Not that she was totally without friends or whatever, but people were all paired off today, and her friends were totally MIA.

SNACK! Yes, of course he wanted a snack. When didn't he wanted a snack? He could not believe that Slytherin prefect Dot invited him along to get a snack with her. He felt so honored. ...But.
Zander Adair had to stop hanging out with Sophie Brown.
First she made him hang out with a Professor on CHRISTMAS and now ON A FIELD TRIP. Merlin. The things he did for this relationship. The things he did.
So of course he didn't protest when she began bolting in Flamsteed's direction both the house and the Professor apparently. "Slow down, Soph!" SWEET MERLIN, THIS GIRL COULD JOG. And Zander was trying to keep up, he really was. But honestly, he wasn't nearly as excited as she was about this place... And he was sure that's what was fueling her energy at the moment. But ahem. He was good. He was finally at the right pace. Ahem. Right.
Actually, they were hangin' out with him because Sophie Brown said it'd be a good idea. Flamsteed's "cool" was still to be determined. ONLY KIDDING, GEEEEEZ. Zander liked Flamsteed, okay?
Sigh. Now uh, what exactly was this house thing about and was Flamsteed related to this Flamsteed 'cause Flamsteed wasn't your average-joe name... Master of deduction, Zander Adair was.

Honestly, why did Muggles have to NOT be used to such things? What was wrong if notebooks floated and quills scribbled on their own?
Despite taking a proper notepad and a proper muggle pen as replacements in his pocket, he didn't think it would be the same. For one thing, it'd be harder. If there was ever a time to need the quill that self wrote, it was now. One hand was obviously out of commission and the other couldn't possibly be expected to both HOLD the notepad AND write the notes.
He didn't know if he could do this...this...NOT having notes made as he went along. "Hmm?" No he wasn't paying attention. What was four Eyes on about anyway. Turning, Blaise saw him point to the large telescope and figured that's where they were going. "Yeah, yeah sure." Not wanting to drag the boy by the cuff that bound them, he latched on inside to his wrist and began shoving through the crowds. "S'cuse us, coming through. Adorable children wanting an education. Pardon us." What? The longer they took to get there was the LONGER the line would be. He was welcome.
...well that was one way to part the crowd. Putting on his best, sweetest face, Davie simply smiled at everyone they passed as Blaise parted the sea. It was a little weird almost holding hands with the boy whom he'd fought just two days ago, but whatever. Whatever it took NOT to break the International Statute of Secrecy. Muggles, be grateful.
Anyway, once they made it up to the top, and sort of around the queue lined up to look in the telescope, Davie took a peek inside the thing and then stepped back to allow Blaise a turn. "Fascinating," he stated, looking up and around the domed room in general. "Did you know that lens is 28 inches across?" That certainly put his glasses to shame. Alsoooooo, was it just him, or did this room look like an onion from outside?

There was nothing in his life that was more fascinating than the whole idea of everything in the universe. Except perhaps girls, Slytherins, the art of bubble blowers and the love that babies had for putting everything into their mouths. Actually, all of those just confused him beyond belief. There was very little more confusing than all of those things. Especially girls. Roo finished up reading his leaflets before taking a seat as a new showing started.
He actually took up two of the seats, one for his jacket and bag and the other for his bottom and his notebook that he was noting EVERYTHING into. How many steps it was from their landing place to the observatory and then to the planetarium from the entrance. How many people he had seen on his walk that weren't Hogwarts students - that was an individual tally in the top left hand corner.
...... This was all very interesting.
Luckily, he had no one with him to distract him. Because that would be a bad thing.
As it happened, Daxton could have spent the entire trip here, watching the progress of the orrery and maybe occasionally revisiting the other displays in the room, and he did indeed take his time here. However, as time progressed, Daxton started to become more aware of the room filling up. Again, he had no idea whether or not they were Hogwarts students, students from other schools, or the general public, but people were people and they were all equally unpleasant. In any case, sooner or later the other students from his school would start arriving, and the longer he lingered here, the more likely he would encounter them. So, after one last look at the orrery, then stopping by the meteorite one more time to touch and otherwise poke at it, Daxton took his leave of the gallery and went on his way.
Perhaps by now, the Great Equatorial Telescope Dome would be free enough of people that he would be able to at least appreciate it. Daxton took a moment to get his bearings, and recall the map he had committed to memory. After a brief pause, he set off in a new direction, ducking around other Observatory visitors along the way.
Of course, when he arrived at the area of the telescope, Daxton soon found that this area was nowhere near as empty as he wanted it to be. A long queue for the telescope was right, and as he eyed the people gathered, Daxton began to reconsider whether he wanted to be here at all. He hung back a little, eyeing the queue, already feeling uncomfortable and impatient purely from the idea of waiting in line.

Next on the list was Flamsteed House. Flamsteed? Coincidence? Now Janelle was intrigued. How was Professor Flamsteed connected with Flamsteed House? Inquiring minds wanted to know. Janelle would definitely have to find out the answer to that question.
When she reached Flamsteed House, she was starting to get hungry. Note to self, visit the cafe.......soon. Trying to ignore her growling stomach, she began to explore the original observatory building. Janelle wandered around, stopping occasionally to read the informational signs. She was learning a lot on the field trip, despite the little snooze that she took at the Planetarium. It was all very intersting, but Janelle felt that it might be a good time to search for some friends that she could hang out with for the rest of the trip.
Before she did that though, she wanted to see the Octagon Room. When Janelle got there, she immediately loved the room. All of the windows..........she loved rooms with lots of big windows. It made everything so bright and airy. Hurrying over to the telescopes, Janelle positioned herself so she could look through them. She could only imagine what it would be like to look through these telescopes at night. Awesome, that's what. Too bad they would be leaving before it got dark.
Finally, Janelle stopped to look at the Orrery gown. OMG! Did someone actually wear that dress........in public? Apparently so. That dress actually landed someone a husband. Well one thing about it, you definitely couldn't be missed in a crowd. Margaret Maskelyne must have been one brave woman.
When Janelle was finished browsing and learning at Flamsteed House, she stopped to check her map again. Did she have time to see one more thing before she hit the cafe? She took a moment to assess her hunger level. In the meantime, she started walking, she just wasn't certain about her destination.

Okay, the movie was so boring and not to mention the narrator's voice was like a lullaby to her. It's so soft and whispering. She didn't remember how long she had been asleep but then once she woke up, the show was already finished. Huh. What should she do next? The telescope dome seemed very cool. She headed to that place next.
While she was heading there, the young lioness spotted Davie and Blaise. "Hey, guys!" She greeted both of them. "Uh... What happened to both of you? Did you two get caught doing something bad like... robbing the bank?" Wait, there's no bank at Hogwarts. "Maybe not... Or you two got caught stealing the Headmaster's teeth or walking stick?" There's no way they did that for fun.

Blaise was doing a good job plowing through the crowd of muggles. Such a good job that he didn't realize they'd basically run into Ava until she was questioning them about their predicament. The boy didn't stop pushing, instead he gestured for her to follow closely. She could be an adorable child wanting an education too. Mhm.
"Even better." He lied, slipping by a particularly stuffy looking man. "We went into the Forbidden Forest, didn't even get lost or nothin' but then Airey caught us. Said since we liked hanging out with each other so much we could get close." He'd have held up his cuffs to emphasize the lie but the Professor had made them invisible just for the trip. Didn't matter. She knew they were there and that would be the story unless Four Eyes decided to tell her he'd been hit so hard his glasses broke.
The waiting in line had to be the worst part. He didn't think shoving would work this time. Most they'd get was maybe a flick to the ear and sent to the back to wait some more.
When it finally did get to being their turn, he let Davie go first then gestured for Ava to take a turn while he listened to lens facts. "Hey Ava, can you write that down?" Compulsive habits were hard to ditch, okay? Maybe he could just ask the Ravenclaw to repeat later when he had both hands back or a desk to write on. "That's neat. D'you reckon they have better telescopes somewhere else though?"

"You and Ellery..." How to put this in a nice and non-threatening way? Dot leaned against the counter as they waited on their turn. "You two seem very different to me. Very. After she's managed to get off from the dress, the Gryffindor walked over to where Henric was. Where to next? Hmm...Candice was looking at the pamphlet. The Cafe sounds nice but HOLD ON! What's this? a 4.500,000,000 year old meteorite? "Let's go to the Astronomy Inspires gallery. I want to touch the meteorite." An opportunity to touch a 4.500,000,000 year old meteorite? She's not going to miss that! But Henric was already a few steps way ahead of her. She jogged a little to catch up with him. "I want to go to the Astronomy Inspires gallery." She said once again. In case the Hufflepuff didn't hear what she said earlier. "Come on! This way!" And she was back dragging Henric with her.
