The Royal Observatory, Greenwich played a major role in the history of astronomy and navigation, and is best known as the location of the prime meridian. The observatory is situated on a hill in Greenwich Park, overlooking the River Thames.
The group lands in an area hidden from all muggle gazes in thanks to several large bushes. Hopefully no one has become too queasy from the trip, but if you have those bushes are right there to...you know...help you out. After handing the portkeys back to Professor Flamsteed, he instructs you to keep your bum bags with your special entry tickets and muggle money on your person. REMEMBER! Under NO circumstances are you to break the The International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy. After making your way up the hill as a group, you approach the main gate and are greeted by a sharply dressed docent in dark purple who waves as you pass with a cheerful, "Welcome to the Royal Observatory, Greenwich!"
Now through the main entrance, you find yourselves to the left of the Meridian Courtyard, as Professor Flamsteed reminds you by pointing to the guide maps you picked up while still in the Astronomy classroom at Hogwarts. After instructing you all to get them out and briefly going over the various activities he hopes you will be sure to take a look at before needing to catch the portkeys. "Don't forget, meet back at our meeting location no later than 3:15," he sternly reminds the group. "Now get a move on and enjoy your day of scientific inquiry and discovery!"
ACTIVITIES OOC: you do NOT need to do every single one of these activities for full participation credit for this lesson. I would like you to pick AT LEAST 2, ideally 3, and RP accordingly. There is no real post minimum for each activity as long as the content is there. Just have fun with things and, remember, your character is in MUGGLEDOM.
Also, since we are all RPing in the SAME thread, please please PLEASE title your post with the LOCATION & ACTIVITY with which your character is participating in so we can all keep track of where we all are and find others to play with PLEASE AND THANK YOU!
Think of a planetarium as a tour bus of the Universe taking you on amazing journeys to explore and experience the wonders of the night sky.
Combining real images from spacecraft and telescopes with advanced CGI, all projected onto a fully immersive dome, the Planetarium can fly you into the heart of the Sun, transport you to distant galaxies, show you the birth of a star or land you on Mars.
The Peter Harrison Planetarium at the Royal Observatory, Greenwich is now London’s only planetarium, and features state-of-the-art HD projection technology, visualisations based on real scientific data and real astronomers and seats 120.
Reflecting ourselves and the universe around us, mirrors can take many forms and they are vital components in many of the telescopes which astronomers have used to explore and understand the Universe. Artist Matthew Luck Galpin used his blacksmithing skills to rework meteorites by heating, hammering, grinding and polishing them into mirrors called ‘Anvilled Stars’.
This process echoes the formation of the planets, pulled together and shaped by gravity, heat and rotation. The meteorites themselves formed when the Solar System was young; they are the left-over remnants of the material from which the planets were made, the building blocks of the Earth and everything on it.
Now you can create one too! Simply present the special ticket to one of the three blacksmiths and they will help you through the process so you can take home a truly one of a kind souvenir.
Astronomy Inspires gallery
SPOILER!!: description
See how the universe expanded from the smallest and how our solar system was formed. The Astronomy Inspires gallery showcases an orrery from the 19th century which demonstrates the motion of the planets. Alongside is a state-of-the-art projection wall showing the how the Universe formed: from the Big Bang to now in 4 minutes! With many interactive displays, there is much you can discover about how the scientists mapped the seas and the stars!
Just past the entrance to this part of the Royal Observatory you will have the opportunity of touching a 4.500,000,000 year old meteorite! During the early life of the solar system the meteorites were part of the asteroid belt and thought to have reached earth between 6000-4000 years ago, falling in Campo De Ciela (Field of Heaven) in the Argentine desert after a journey of millions of years.
The 28-inch Greenwich refracting telescope is the largest of its kind in the UK and the seventh largest in the world. Completed in 1893 as a replacement for the 12¾-inch Merz that originally occupied its position, it was commissioned in 1885 by William Christie, Astronomer Royal between 1881 and 1911. It was designed to keep the Royal Observatory at the forefront of contemporary astronomy and more active in the growing disciplines of astrophysics and photography. The job of constructing the telescope was given to Howard Grubb, an Irish optical manufacturer who was then the world leader in the field.
Although the telescope was removed from Greenwich to Herstmonceaux in 1957, it was used for research into double star systems throughout its working life until its retirement in the late 1960s. It was returned to Greenwich in 1971, and has become a central part of educational programmes at the Royal Observatory. With the recent addition of a computer-aided guidance system and CCD camera, it continues to work as an excellent visual aid to observing the night sky.
While nighttime provides a more optimum environment, if you wait in the queue long enough you can take a peek through this telescope. We are sure you will still be able to see something - most likely a planet.
Flamsteed House is the original Observatory building at Greenwich, designed by Sir Christopher Wren in 1675 on the instructions of King Charles II. The Observatory was built on the site of Greenwich Castle, which originally belonged to Humphrey, Duke of Gloucester (brother of Henry V) and was often used as a guest house and hunting lodge by Henry VIII. Be sure to check out the two time galleries while you explore around here!
But that is not all Professor Flamsteed hopes you will see. Circled on all of your guidemaps is the Octagon Room. The room was designed to observe celestial events including eclipses, comets and planetary movements. However, the positioning of Flamsteed House meant that the original purpose of the Observatory could not be fulfilled from the Octagon Room. With big windows, the room was perfect for watching the sky, but not ideal for positional observations, because none of the walls were aligned with a meridian. Most important positional observations were actually made in a small 'shed' in the Observatory gardens, though King Charles II remained blissfully unaware of this. The telescopes are fully operational and ready for you to take a look through!
The bright red Time Ball on top of Flamsteed House is one of the world's earliest public time signals, distributing time to ships on the Thames and many Londoners. It was first used in 1833 and still operates today. To view the Time Ball you will need to exit the house and watch from the Meridian Courtyard. Each day, at 12.55, the time ball rises halfway up its mast. At 12.58 it rises all the way to the top. At 13.00 exactly, the ball falls, and so provides a signal to anyone who happens to be looking. Of course, if you were looking the wrong way, you had to wait until the next day before it happened again.
Meridian Courtyard
SPOILER!!: description
Since the late 19th century, the Prime Meridian at Greenwich has served as the reference line for Greenwich Mean Time. It can now claim to be the centre of world time, and was the official starting point for the new Millennium. 22 October 2009 marked the 125th anniversary of the Greenwich Meridian as the Prime Meridian of the World.
The meridian line in Greenwich represents the Prime Meridian of the world, Longitude Zero (0° 0' 0"). Every place on the Earth is measured in terms of its angle east or west from this line. To stand astride the line is to have one foot in the eastern and one foot in the western hemisphere of the earth – just as the Equator divides the northern and southern hemispheres.
The Prime Meridian at Greenwich passes through a massive special telescope called a transit circle. The transit circle was built by Sir George Airy, the seventh Astronomer Royal, in 1850. The cross-hairs seen in the eyepiece of this transit circle define Longitude 0° for the world.
The 'universal day' is measured from the Prime Meridian. It is the average of a year's worth of 'natural' days and is a scientific time scale used irrespective of time zones.
Coolest thing to do here? Walk and/or straddle the Meridian Line, which represents the Prime Meridian of the World – Longitude 0º!
Although the name Astronomers’ Garden is recent, this is the oldest of the gardens at the Observatory, the land having been enclosed when the Observatory was built in the 1670's. Now trapezoid in shape, it has had various names, including: ‘The Lawn’, ‘The Terrace Lawn’, ‘The Terrace Garden’, ‘The Upper Garden’ and more recently, ‘The Home of Time Garden’ (1998–2008). The present name, ‘The Astronomers’ Garden’ is a contrivance dating from 2009.
Unique to this year, the garden plays host to a special exhibit called Longitude Punk’d to celebrate the 260th anniversary of the Longitude Act being repealed. A show where Astronomer Royal John Flamsteed appears in thanks to his time machine is both educational and entertaining. Best of all? After the show is finished you can go up and explore the time machine and other steampunk elements including photoshoot opportunities in costume and wigs with your choice of steampunk prop (including a vehicle and telescope!)
Gift Shop & Cafe
SPOILER!!: description
While you won’t find astronaut ice cream here, there is still plenty to spend your muggle money on! Next door to the gift shop is a humble little cafe that offers choices such as sandwiches, gratins and other classics - including stellar parfaits.
Checking his sundial watch, the professor gleefully announces that everyone is free to go about as you please...KEEPING CERTAIN THINGS IN MIND! And mentions something about living long and prospering before running off himself to bask in the glory of the day.
Have fun and be smart!

SPOILER!!: Zeke
A fiver was pretty stingy, and this time round he didn't have any muggle money of his own on his person... only galleons and sickles, which would very clearly be wasted here - statute of secrecy aside. Nevertheless, it would be enough to satisfy the pit that was his stomach, at least until they returned to school.
He frowned slightly as Hady beat him to the door and allowed him to move through first. "You know, traditionally the ladies go first, you're making me look bad." He said it lightly, but it was true. HE should have held the door for HER.
But food, so never mind.
Worthy of trying?
"Everything?" he offered. He couldn't think of any food that WASN'T worthy of trying. Even if it was bad, or strange, everything deserved a chance, did it not? "I might just go a sandwich though..." seemed the easiest choice, and perhaps the most economically viable one too. Ham and cheese? Lettuce and egg? Or what looked like beef and tomato? Hmm...
Muggle money. Wizarding money. Hady always had some of both with her. Well not always but for field trips she did. Her father normally made sure of it. So when it came to food and or the gift shop she wasn't to concerned about it.
So she had opened the door and they both went inside. Was it really such a big deal? Apparently so. "I didn't know that rule applied to best friends," she teased lightly smirking at him. "If it does though I'll make sure to let you get the doors for now on, okay?" If it made him happy she wouldn't mind it one bit. It was a door.
Everything. Hady turned to face Zeke and couldn't help but laugh. "I should've expected that much from you. You're right though." It all sounded good and from most of it at least looked worthy enough to be tasted. Today though she was going with something sweet. Like chocolate...or white chocolate maybe? Was there something on the menu that suited that idea?

Did the rule NOT apply to best friends? He couldn't see why it wouldn't. Zeke shrugged, hands in his pocket as he looked over the display cabinet at the foooooodz. Choices. Choices. So many choices, and so many opportunity costs. "You should let me handle it, unless there's a reason why I can't." Mmhhmm. That was his thought on the matter. So unless he lost his arms in a horrific dragon accident (or something similar), or something was about to eat them and time was of the essence, HE would be the door person.
And then she was laughing at him... rude.
Zeke pulled a face at her before glancing back at the display cabinet, removing his hand to pick up a packaged sandwich. He decided beef and tomato would be the flavour of the day. "What are you getting?" he asked over his shoulder as he handed the person at the register his meal, also pointing out a bottle of juice behind the counter too. The change he received was dismal, but he had hope that perhaps the place had a space themed gumboil machine somewhere.

If he wasn't her best friend...like ever! She would've stuck her tongue out at him just then. This door situation was just silly to her honestly and she never understood it but it was a guy thing. Or well mostly a guy thing (some boys didn't care). Whoever him being him and her being her she nodded and cast him a small smile. "Alright then I will." Deal. No arguments on this matter.
Hady's laughter quickly stopped at the face Zeke made at her. She had been teasing him. Nothing bad. "What? I was just playing around." He should've known that. She always messed around, at least when she was with him where she felt that she could. Eyes still searching over the items she finally selected a parfait. The vanilla, chocolate, caramel one with the chocolate stars sitting on top to be exact. She'd share too if Zeke wanted some.
Selecting her choice she followed him to the register removing her money from inside the bum bag. "This. Mainly cause it's sugar." She grinned handing the money over to the person behind the register and accepted her change dropping it into her bag.
Shall they find a table?

That hadn't been too bad a trip, all things considered. Davie could tell that someone nearby had gotten sick because of the portkey, but that person wasn't him. He was a pro at portkey travel by now, especially since that was all his family used on international vacations.
Dusting off an invisible spec of nothing from his shirt, the first year's eyes immediately lit up at the sight of the giant telescope dome in front of them. Yes, he had to go see that! Surely the kid he was chained too wouldn't mind... and surely the Muggles all around wouldn't notice that they were semi-conjoined, right?! He'd worn long sleeves for a reason today!
"Let's go there," Davie pointed, just so Blaise would know which direction to walk in. The giant dome was kind of hard to miss though.

....................
Soooo... they had to join a line to get to see through the telescope. No worries. He could wait. He would just distract himself by looking around the dome as he bounced on his feet. "Hope this line moves faster,'' he said . "I can't wait to look through that telescope!'' But what would he see? to no one in particular. Adi did figure it would be more than clouds and the sky at general.

And now she got to explore the observatory!
She was excited, because Astronomy actually interested her. Not as much as plants, but it was in second place. Space was just COOL, and she really enjoyed whacky Professor Flamsteed and his crazy lessons. Competitions were never her thing, but some of the activities he had them do were pretty fun. AND FIELD TRIP. He was awesome enough to take them on a trip.
She'd never been on a field trip before.
Adi and Benny were planning to head over to the telescope dome, and that sounded like a great idea to her. She was definitely going to take them up on the invitation. "I'm coming too!" It didn't even matter to her that they had to join a line. Looking back, she hoped that Professor Myers was going to come along as well.
So they were on their way to the dome, with or without other followers either coming with or meeting up with them. Benny watched Adi check the map they had all been given before following alongside his friend as they left the area where they had started to head in the direction of their destination at the moment. Not to bad of a trek, until they hit the line to wait on before they would be allowed into the actual telescope.
Bummer.
Not that it wasn't to be expected, given the influx of students on top of the conservatory's normal busy day. On a nice note, Paulina had joined them, something the Gryffindor hadn't readily noted at first as they had moved through the crowds and noises. He offered a small smile to her as they waited, the line inching up and up with others, including fellow Hogwarts students, adding onto the line after them. And then finally it was there turn.
"After you..." he instructed to Paulina, being the gentleman. Adi and he would be coming along with anyway.

Whoooaaaa...this place ACTUALLY looked cool. For real. He was trying, but not even he could hide all the excitement and apprehension from his expression as he looked about the place. There was so much to see, so many things to do and he wanted to see EVERYTHING. It broke his heart to leave his quill and notepad back in the classroom. Honestly, why did Muggles have to NOT be used to such things? What was wrong if notebooks floated and quills scribbled on their own?
Despite taking a proper notepad and a proper muggle pen as replacements in his pocket, he didn't think it would be the same. For one thing, it'd be harder. If there was ever a time to need the quill that self wrote, it was now. One hand was obviously out of commission and the other couldn't possibly be expected to both HOLD the notepad AND write the notes.
He didn't know if he could do this...this...NOT having notes made as he went along. "Hmm?" No he wasn't paying attention. What was four Eyes on about anyway. Turning, Blaise saw him point to the large telescope and figured that's where they were going. "Yeah, yeah sure." Not wanting to drag the boy by the cuff that bound them, he latched on inside to his wrist and began shoving through the crowds. "S'cuse us, coming through. Adorable children wanting an education. Pardon us." What? The longer they took to get there was the LONGER the line would be. He was welcome.

To be honest, Oliver didn't care much about the bum bag itself. Or even the pamphlet. But there had been money inside. He was not going to be leaving until he'd gotten back that lost money. Unfortunately the professors all seemed to be busy, arriving or helping other students. Maybe they had not heard him. Oliver took a breath, ready to yell even louder. Luckily for everyone around him, something on the ground caught his eye.
There was a pamphlet near his feet. The pamphlet with a few extra tickets tucked inside. The very same one that was inside each and every bum bag. What was the odds that two people had lost theirs. Oliver snatched it up and stuffed it into his pocket. Well that was half of the problem solved. Oh and there, a few feet away from the pamphlet, was money. The exact amount of money that had been in his bag. The amount that he had lost. Oliver snatched that up as well. They were most likely his, he reasoned. But even if they weren't, that was no longer his problem. One question still remained - where had the bag gone?
He spotted a lone bum bag laying on the ground by where the pamphlet and money had been. It was not his, he knew that much. But nobody else appeared to have lost one. Oliver picked it up and unzipped it, to see if the pamphlet and money had come from inside. Instead, it seemed to contain vomit, and a horrible smell.
EWWWW.
Oliver dropped it on the ground, his hand flying up to plug his nose against that smell. He backed away rapidly, eyes searching around but unable to find any clues as to whoever had left it there. Oh well, it wasn't his problem. Wanting to get away from there as soon as possible, Oliver turned and started walking. He pulled out his map, trying to make sense of where he was and where he wanted to go.
He paused as he passed a room filled with peculiar noises. Some people seemed to be working in there. Oliver studied his map for a moment before determining that it must be the artists workshop, and those guys were making anvilled stars, whatever that meant. He reached in his pockets and found a ticket to present to them. Oliver hoped that it would be as interesting as it sounded.

There's a documentary movie that was played at the planetarium called From Earth to the Universe. Ava was curious so she decided to watch it. It had been a long time since she watched muggle movies like this. Was it gonna be fun? She hoped so.
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.........
Okay, the movie was so boring and not to mention the narrator's voice was like a lullaby to her. It's so soft and whispering. She didn't remember how long she had been asleep but then once she woke up, the show was already finished. Huh. What should she do next? The telescope dome seemed very cool. She headed to that place next.
While she was heading there, the young lioness spotted Davie and Blaise. "Hey, guys!" She greeted both of them. "Uh... What happened to both of you? Did you two get caught doing something bad like... robbing the bank?" Wait, there's no bank at Hogwarts. "Maybe not... Or you two got caught stealing the Headmaster's teeth or walking stick?" There's no way they did that for fun.

Adi was ninety nine percent of the time patient. Today was not one of those days. He bounced on his feet, tapped them, held onto Benny's shoulder and jumped up and down like the energetic, over grown man- child he was as he tried to see how much longer the line was ahead of them for a while as the line inched up. But why not take care of of business while waiting?
"Where do you guys want to go next?'' He then took a great step forward when the line moved up... and up... and up... But golly! FINALLY they were there! He waited until Benny and Polly who were ahead of him to have his turn.
When that time came, the seventh year bounded up to the telescope to peer through with his bespectacled left eye. WOAAAH! So cool, yo! He scanned the skies. With that powerful telescope, he was able to see astronomical bodies! Eeeep!
"I think I see Mars,'' he told his friends happily. He liked Mars, ya know? Adi was certain aliens lived there. Mhmm.
Of course he had noticed that Norah had grabbed his arm earlier but he honestly had not minded. She had nearly fallen down and he understood that she simply needed something or someone to hold on to. Which had been his arm this time.
He didn’t say anything back when she apologized but did send a small smile her way before he had walked off to the Flamsteed House. He hadn’t exactly planned to go with someone or a group. And as the group of students went their own way he was oblivious to Norah following him.
Until he heard a shout behind him inside of the Flamsteed House and he turned around with his eyebrows raised. “Try to keep your voice down, I’m not sure that purple suited muggle would like it” he wasn’t warning her, just advising because he didn’t want her to get in to trouble.
Turning back to the weird and ugly garment, Yoongi looked at Norah in shock when she said that thing was awesome. Was she joking or…? “Well, it belonged to Margaret Maskelyne and it was used in a wedding….” Seriously? That hideous thing was worn at a wedding? Looking around, Yoongi spotted some old school telescopes. “You think those work?” he asked the Hufflepuff Prefect and pointed towards them.
Yoongi really didn't look impressed enough with that dress. Had he SEEN the thing? It was crazy cool. How did he know all that stuff about it, though? She turned to look at him and saw the description next to the dress. Oh, right. Reading. That was a thing. Norah bent over to read the sign, too. It didn't appear to be worn in the wedding, but the groom did talk about it because he'd seen Margaret whatever-her-name-was wearing it at the society thingy. She didn't correct him, though, just in case she'd been the one to read it wrong. And because being corrected didn't always feel too wonderful. "Isn't it lovely? So creative 'n different. If people really like space they should be able to wear a dress made out of the solar system too, it's only fair." Hence the flowery bum bag. She loved flowers, so flowery bag it was. Who cared if everybody else would think it was strange? If there was one thing to be confident in, it was what she wore. Nobody was allowed to tell her that was wrong. Nobody.
Norah followed his finger until she saw the telescopes too. "There's only one way to find out." That way was trying, if that wasn't obvious. She walked-not-ran over to the telescopes, because after her initial shouting she was determined to be on her best behavior. "I wonder why they're shaped like that," she said, before putting her eye to one of the eyepieces. "I see a bunch of bright sky." She squinted into the eyepiece. Either she was doing this wrong, or it was much more exciting to observe the sky at night time. "Whaddya think?"
Thankfully, he didn't face-plant into some mud again during his portkey journey over here. Luckily,he managed to establish some kind control and landed on his feet this time round. Henric declared it as one of his proudest moment. Oh yeah! Anyway, they were soon released to freely roam around the museum and his first destination was to visit the amazing planetarium. He noticed his friends Adi, Benny and Paulina were heading towards the direction of the telescope dome. Brilliant! Perhaps he would meet them later after he explored the planetarium first. Now he wondered who were heading towards the same direction as him, he didn't mind the company at all.
She had done a portkey journey before a few times but she never liked it. She prefer to travel by floo or the muggle way. Portkey always made her sick like she wanted to vomit but thankfully this time she got that under control and she managed to land gracefully.
Now where to first?
They're here for the Astronomy lesson might as well check the Planetarium. The Gryffindor gave her Portkey' group a goodbye wave before she went off towards the Planetarium. And she noticed that Nicolei was heading towards the Planetarium too. Why did the guy has to go to the same place as her? Groan. Might as well go together with him, beside she need someone to bring her bag and Henric might come in handy later.
"Let's go, slowpoke!" She quickly grabbed his left arm and dragged him toward the Planetarium before the Hufflepuff could refuse.

"Good," it was settled, he would be the door boy, and she could do the lady thing and go through first. Yep. His manhood would remain in tact. But alas, it wasn't so great a concern for him that he was distracted from his food. No, quite the opposite. Though they were not yet seated, he was already juggling his drink in one hand and undoing the plastic so that he might be able to access his sandwich. Honestly, packaging needed to be more user friendly.
...
And what was THAT? "Mmmmmmm...." he mused, confused, "... so was I." Yeah? Why else would he pull faces at her? But again, food was much more interesting at the minute, so he took a glance at her parfait thing. He still didn't know what he word meant, but he'd had many of the creamy deserts before. "Good choice," he acknowledged.
But a chair would be good, and a table too while they were at it, and so when Hady had finished paying, Zeke led to way to a table by the window and finished unwrapping his sandwich.
...Candice?!! Why was she dragging him with her??! Deep sigh. Fineeeee....Inside the planetarium,Henric walked in and chose a seat at the far end of the corner. Oh,but they weren't alone ...three *ehem* older pretty muggle female students were soon occupying the seat next to him and he was the only boy in that row apparently. Umm...okay...act cool..Henric.No need to feel awkward. Well, what fifteen year old boy didn't,hmm? One of them even 'accidentally' brushed her hand against his arm which caused him to jump a little. Thank merlin...the room was too dark to see anything or else his face would be a dead giveaway. His face was turning crimson red in colour by now.The last thing he wanted to do was to appear flustered *coughs* in front of the three muggle ladies...oh and especially Candice. Anyway, it was getting hard to concentrate watching the movie showcase because those girls kept giggling and chit-chatting away while secretly using their muggle devices too. To be honest, it was getting annoying...really... to the point whereby he wished he could cast a silencio spell around him so he could watch the movie in peace. Henric let out another deeep sigh. Girls. Why were they so ...urgh.
"Yo Candice, where do you wanna go next?"he asked in a bored tone.

The event turned out to not just be something he could watch other people do, but it was interactive! He could make his own. With some help, that was. The process involved fire, especially right at the beginning, and unfortunately Oliver had not been allowed to do that on his own. But the engineer helped him through the rest of the process.
It was an actual piece of a meteorite? That was pretty cool. But it seemed weird that it was being subject to melting and hammering and whatever else. It was already something cool. Were fragments really so common that they could just take some and do whatever they wanted? Whatever, it was cool. Oliver got to do the polishing part. There was a circular thing that went around and around on top of the meteorite piece. After a while, it was turned into a mirror. Oliver had no idea how something like that could happen but it was really cool.
When the whole process was done, Oliver was left with a piece of a meteorite that had been flattened and shined and was now able to act as a mirror. An anvilled star, that's what it was called. And the best part was that he got to keep it. Beaming, the first year stuffed his new possession into his pocket. He said thank you to the engineers and bid them a cheerful goodbye. Where to next?

Hady nodded firmly. Yup. If something as simple as allowing him to open doors made him happy she'd let him. "Mhmm."
She blinked having confused even herself. A small lift of her shoulders. Yeah don't mind her the food was getting t her. Could they eat now? Just looking at the parfait was making her even more hungry. "I hope so." She agreed. If it was half as good as it looked she'd be one happy camper.
Following after Zeke she settled into a chair across from him. "Anywhere around here interest you other then this place?" Always good to have ideas and all. Lifting her spoon she scooped up some of the yummy treat taking a bite. YUM!

Landing, snagging Zander, and making googly eyes at Flammy & Dakest
be curious, not judgmental
When they landed, Soph grunted slightly as her feet connected with the ground, but otherwise she was immune to the effects of the portkey. The only thing that made her feel at ALL queasy was the moment she squinted around, trying to figure out where they were. They... DID end up landing with the other groups around, including Flamsteed, so it looked like they HADN'T been transported somewhere else. Phew. That was a relief.
Right after identifying that they'd gotten there safely, Soph surveyed her group at large. She politely pretended not to see Rooney get sick, but Henric was fine, so were Davie and Blaise, and by the time she looked back to see how Rooney was recovering... the boy had disappeared, his retreating back as he ran toward the observatory signaling his clear excitement. Well. That was good, wasn't it?
Thankful that her group was well and accounted for, Soph turned her gaze toward Zander's group that was now dissipating and smiled at the sight of him looking around, no doubt for her, and she hurried over to him cheerfully, looping his arm with hers. "Hi. Wanna go learn some stuff?" She was already walking them toward the observatory, her smile bright, and she shot a glance back around first at Dakest, then at Flamsteed. She wanted BOTH of them to come with them. "D'you mind gettin' together with Flammy and Dakest later? It's our last field trip probably EVER with them and it'd be fun to learn a little with them, 'specially with Flammy. He'd probably love the opportunity to nerd out over some stuff with us and go super in depth explaining things to us, don'tcha thing? It'd enhance our learning experience and all." Eh, Flammy? Ehhhh? Wouldn't he LOVE that?
Angel was a bit upset, it seemed that she was going to be going around on her own, saying that it would give her time to think about what had happened during the summer and the months that had followed, she decided that the first thing she wanted to see was the gardens since she loved gardens and wanted to be an explorer when she was older.
Angel decided that she would head there this second and maybe someone would come and join her but if not she was sure she could have some fun, though she really wished that she could actually plant something but she had a feeling she would get in serious trouble and so she wasn't going to do it.
Angel headed off towards the gardens, she wondered what sort of plants and other garden stuff would be in the place. She hoped Roses and maybe some petunias because they were her favourite plants.
Most of the activities listed were ones that Daxton wanted to visit, and that meant that surely everyone else would want to visit them too, so there was no doubt in the Ravenclaw's mind that they would all be horrendously busy. He twisted his mouth in indecision, still taking in the information from the map while he committed it to memory, and running over the pros and cons for each potential place, as well as trying to work out the probability of them being heaving with people.
After a long time deliberating, Daxton finally folded the map up again, smaller and smaller until it was eventually small enough to fit into his pocket, where his notebook was. Everything else from the bum bag, including the empty money envelope (he still held the five pound note, though that was soon tucked safely into the waistband of his shorts) went into his pockets too, and Daxton did his best to shove his shoes into the bum bag. They did not fit, and so poked out very obviously, but it was good enough, and now he had his hands free.
With a destination obviously clear in mind, Daxton set off on his own, heading for the Astronomy Inspires gallery, interesting in getting his hands on the 4.5 billion year old meteorite that had been advertised. He passed a fair number of people on his way, young enough that they were likely Hogwarts students but suddenly looking so different outside of the Hogwarts castle, grounds, and uniform, that he could not be sure. The sudden unfamiliarity of his surroundings made Daxton's anxiety spike yet again, but that did not deter him from carrying on going his own way. A side effect of being stubbornly independent and having no other real choice.
It did not take very long to reach the gallery, though Daxton managed to receive a fair number of strange looks along the way, particularly in the direction of his bare feet, but he simply ignored them. He slipped silently through the entrance and immediately set his sights on the meteorite. A hungry gleam in his eye, Daxton ducked around those milling around - most likely they were normal people, as they looked too old to be Hogwarts students, and nothing like the teachers that had come along - and got right up close to the hunk of rock, immediately running his fingers over the surprisingly smooth yet ridged stone, all the while thinking about how so very old it was. The oldest thing he would ever touch, apparently. Probably.
Yes. This was okay.

While he had not missed the whole bum bag incident - rather impossible to given the aroma - the Astronomy professor was rather a little too overcome with emotion to act quickly enough to resolve the problem. Although it seemed to on its own so kudo points to you, kids. He was not one to get sentimental often, but after the events of last term it was difficult not to. Especially in a location with so much family history.
Not that he was becoming all misty eyed or anything. He was holding it together just fine and resembled a giddy toddler with a lollipop being dangled in front of its nose.
He DID manage to catch the...er...whatever that look was that Miss Brown was making in his direction and offered her a salute in reply before making his way towards the Flamsteed house.

Bleh, weird was weird, but he was over it.
When he was FINALLY able to get to his sandwich, he didn't waste any time in wolfing it down. It was a normal sandwich, nothing particularly out of the ordinary, but it was incredibly satisfying. And... was that horseradish cream in it? Zeke lifted the corner of his bread to see the things inside, and sure enough, a white-ish cream was there. Yum.
Hady needn't have worried about her parfait. When could sugar ever NOT taste good? He didn't think it was possible.
He'd taken another generous bite and was working on chewing it when Hady asked him about places of interest. Uuuuuuhhhhhh... well that was awkward. Zeke looked out the window for a second while he chewed his food - it would be rude of him to talk with his mouth full. But the second he swallowed, he provided the only answer he could give without lying. "Nothing." Mmmhhmm. That's right. Nothing. Nothing interested him here except for the food. He didn't think he'd need to know about any Prime Meredith anytime soon. He'd functioned perfectly well in society without it, so he was confident he could continue to do so.
Although.... "Apparently there's a really old rock or something we can touch here." He'd heard someone mention it while they were walking up. It sounded okay, kinda.
Landing, up for grabs heading to the artist workshop thing.

Over the past few years Cinna had got better at hitting the porkey landing. This time she had hit it perfectly. As for the projectiles, it had know effect on her. So that was a good thing. Something she didn't have to worry about.
Being a seventh year she was suppose look out for the ickles. Or something like that. So she glanced around quickly. Everyone was okay, right? Yes. Well for the most part, she turning her head away from the sick ones.
Cinna didn't take the chance to see who all was riding her porkey with her. She would just go off on her own and just see who was around at the same place she was at the time. It worked for her. So she headed inside with the others.
Looking at the list of the different exhibits, of course the first thing to pop out at her was artist workshop. Whatever that was she wanted to do it. So yes, that was the seventeen year old was going. Anyone else going?

Dot landed a bit hard, but at least she was on her feet, which was better than some of her compatriots had done. Her stomach churned like it was full of hornets, but the feeling didn't last, and she was distracted from worrying on it by all the things there were to see. Maybe she was horribly disappointed in Flamsteed as a human being, but she had to admit the man had class.
What would be first? She could see that great white dividing line there in the Meridian Courtyard, and Dot was pleased as punch to skip on toward that spot for a closer look. The courtyard was split by the Prime Meridian itself, and if she stood in the middle of it, right at the thingy-do, then she was standing at point zero. The hemispheres were like her great wings, spreading out behind her. Or that was dumb, right?
Daxton spent what was probably considered an inordinate amount of time touching the billions-of-years-old rock, as it had well and truly captured his attention, the way it looked, the way it felt, the thought of the eras it had existed throughout. Even as he stood there, taking his time at the rock and shuffling sideways when anyone else got too close to him in their own bid to touch it, Daxton wondered how exactly it counted as being the oldest object he would ever touch. Was there not that general rule that one could not create something from nothing, and matter could not simply disappear, ergo everything that existed was a product or combination of matter that already existed, ergo everything he touched was formed of, at the very least, atoms that had existed since the dawn of time. It was interesting, to say the least.
Before long, the meteorite got far too crowded, as more observatory attendees began to crowd it, and Daxton decided he no longer wanted to be near it. He ducked away from it and into the main gallery, taking a moment to take in the sights of the room, to avoid getting too overwhelmed by choice. Daxton blinked at his surroundings, clutching at the strap of the bag that went across his chest and glancing down to check that his shoes were still by his side.
He progressed further into the room, taking his time to observe each of the displays, occasionally interacting with them, and pausing once he caught the tail end of the 'formation of the Universe' projection. Once it finished, Daxton stayed where he was, and watched it through to the end again, and then continued on his way. His last stop in the gallery was the nineteenth century orrery he had read about, and deliberately left until last to go and visit.
Daxton liked mechanical things. He liked watching the components all work together, deducing how they worked, and taking them apart and putting them back together all in his imagination. The orrery was a great source of fascination, and he stood staring at it for quite some time, circling it and taking his sweet time watching it in action, with much the same eagerness in expression as some young wizards his age might watch a Quidditch game or something similar.

Where to next? There were a lot of different options - did he have time to do them all? He probably didn't want to, some of them sounded pretty boring like the show. He didn't want to just sit down and watch a movie. Especially an educational movie. But they'd talked about the prime meridian in class. Not that he'd really understood what they'd talked about. Something about time zones.
And it wasn't too far from where he had been. Not that the whole place was super large, but still. Oliver made his way through the crowd, smiling a greeting when he saw a student he recognized. It was weird to see them in normal clothes. Finally he made it to the meridian courtyard. There was the line. He glanced around first, to see if there was anyone he knew. And there was prefect Dot, one of the greatest people ever.
"Hi Dot!" He greeted enthusiastically. Was she there for the same reason he was? To stand in two hemispheres at the same time? The pamphlet said he could do that. And so Olly did. He stood with one leg in each hemisphere. It didn't feel any different, but it would probably be a cool story to tell one day.
How thin was the line? Would he be able to stand in a spot so that he was in neither hemisphere? That would be wicked.

Dot stopped dancing when she heard the greeting, turning to spot her new companion. Olly! Her fave ickle person! She danced again, this time in his direction. Once at his side, Dot also took up a spot straddling the meridian too. Look at them! Both east and west at the same time!
"This is pretty cool, right? I mean, if you think about it, everyone in the world is checking their watches in their own timezones based on this spot. We're the center of everything. I'm never the center, so..." She tilted her head to one side. "I'm trying to soak in how it feels. It feels... pretty normal, really. So nevermind!"
