Default The Playground

Looking for a spot to unleash that inner child of yours or perhaps to keep yourself in shape? This is definitely the place to go. Slides, monkey bars, swings, a see-saw, jungle gym, and even a pole with a tether ball attached is in place ready to be played with. You may also take a seat in the sand that surrounds all the equipment and build a castle. Not to worry though, there's minimal risk of injury here as a cushion charm was placed on the ground.

The Potions man should know that football is fun and he's not really old to play it. Hehehehe.

"I'll teach you how to play it." Cue a wink.
Teach him? Cosgrach laughed genuinely. She would get the message that teaching him some muggle sport was absurd. The swing was too comfortable. Besides, he didn't do sports anymore. That had been in the past.

"Isn't that ball charmed?" he asked. Why didn't she play already? If this was about the sign he had put up, he would erase it. Come to think about it, why had he posted the one about sports in the first place?

What? Why he was laughing at her? Didn't he want someone to do sports with him? And football is a sport, okay? The young lioness just shook her head at him.

"Nope. The ball is not charmed and even if it's charmed, I'm still gonna find someone to play football with me because playing alone sucks." She replied. Come on, there has to be a person who's gonna be the keeper. Well, if he still didn't want to play with her maybe this way would gonna work.

Ava then kicked the ball towards him and let's see if he's gonna catch it or kick it back.

Hehehe. Come on, Professor! Play with me.

Cosgrach raised his eyebrows and suspiciously eyed the ball. He opened his mouth to point out that he was there to WATCH her and clap or whatever when she did a good move, but -

HSDŞKFNKLSDŞO--

He had been a beater ALRIGHT, but he never had to deal with UNexpected balls. On the contrary, he had been the one who sent the metal balls to others. He instinctively leaned to the side to avoid it, and hid his face behind his arms. The ball hit his hand and fell to his feet, and he swiftly got up from his swing to KICK it BACK (quite amateurishly, but who cared? It'd still hit her somewhere.)

He, of course, didn't realise this was the reaction she'd wanted. He just thought he was merely getting back at her.

Oopsies daisies... It seemed like she kicked the ball too hard. Well, maybe she should've warn him first but... seeing that man avoided the ball and made it hit his hand (which actually was a foul but hey, they weren't in a football match now, right?), Ava tried not to laugh. Ah, if only she had a camera now it would be funny to have Professor Culloden's pic avoiding the ball. Hehehe.

"Nice kick, Professor." Ava commented when he kicked the ball back to her and then she caught it with her hands. "In real football, if the ball was hitting the player's hand it counts as a foul, unless you're a goalkeeper." She explained. She did some freestyle kick using her leg, knee and thigh and then dribbled it around the playground. Then she passed the ball to the Professor. "Come on, sir. You have to try it!"

Oh come on, it wasn't nice at all! Cosgrach didn't need to know football to see that. He waved his hand dismissively. "You don't have to pay me false compliments," he said, but did listen to her explanation carefully. No hands, huh? That... ought to be hard. Very hard, in fact. How did they SCORE? With their feet? But you couldn't do much with two feet and a ball, it must be a rather dull sport...

Or... not. Wow. He watched her with raised eyebrows and a sliiiiiightly open mouth. Just... wow. Then, he looked at the ball she passed to him, and back at her again. "I don't know how," he said, "and you'll teach me." Like, right now.

"Daxton! Mate!" he grinned widely, watching the boy moving closer then further then closer again in a perfect pattern.

"Daxton! You have to try this! C'mon! We can save the world together!" He could definitely come play superheroes with him and they could jump from the swings together and make dramatic possess.

The whole works!!

Was he coming??????

Mate. Mate?

That was not his name. He was Daxton Prince, not Daxton Mate, and one would think that in a school where they so liked to use surnames to address individuals - so much so that Daxton himself had found himself picking up the habit in his own internal monologue - that anyone would know that by now. The possibility that he was being referred to as a mate - a friend, in the colloquial sense - did not once occur to the Ravenclaw, as the prospect seemed impossible, improbable, and downright ridiculous. He simply stared at Blaise Bellaire, his eyes tracking his steady back-and-forth pendulum process, and considered his words.

Save the world... Okay, well, that was improbable. There was no imminent disaster to save the world from, unless you counted the general doomed nature of the world, but Daxton did not think that that was what Blaise Bellaire was referring to. Swinging was probably not likely to stop that.

There was a long pause between when the other boy had spoken and when Daxton finally stepped forwards, a pause in which he considered the sand all around the playground area and the best ways he could avoid touching it. Sand itself was not so bad, but it was a nightmare when you had left the sandy area in favour of different terrain.

But step forwards he did, tiptoeing across to the swing beside Blaise and silently joining him in swinging back and forth, back and forth, back and forth...

Yes.

This was okay.

HE WAS GONNA JOIN HIM!!

The fact Daxton hadn't gone off about how silly it could be to pretend such a thing on a swing meant he was obviously all for the idea--because no, Blaise wasn't taking into account the fact the boy did not speak. The boy's presence was always so loud that the Gryffindor often forgot he was the one who ended up doing all the talking.

"You should pump your legs harder like this! We're gonna go really high then dive off into the great unknown, OKAY???" Didn't that sound fun? Wasn't he excited?

"I like when the playground isn't really occupied, otherwise there'd be a bunch of other kids running around and we'd likely land on one of them if we tried jumping off the swings then. Don't reckon the Groundskeeper put cushioning charms on everyone...it'd hurt." Then they'd probably get in trouble for other people getting in the way.

"D'you think everyone's locked inside doing Charms homework? I'm not doing it. I'm not going back to the class anyway." He would be a Gryffindor and take that 'T' like a man. Yup.

Again, she passed the ball to him. "Come on, try to dribble it around the playground." HEHEHE.

Getting on the swing had been a very wise choice, and Daxton mentally commended himself for it. Something about the controlled repetitive back and forth movement stimulated his senses in a good way for once, though he reasoned to himself that he had actually known this already. It might have even been peaceful, were it not for Blaise Bellaire blathering away beside him.

In fact, the way their swinging was out of time made it so that the other first year's voice sounded strangely and unpleasantly discordant with how pleasant the actual act of swinging was, tainting the experience with low level feelings of nausea. Daxton glanced across at the Gryffindor boy, listening to him talk about the 'great unknown' - whatever that was - and adjusted the method and timing of his swinging to try and make it so that they were moving back and forth at the same time, in the same direction, and going exactly the same distance. It was difficult, and it took a lot of focus, but with the proper amount of leaning, leg-pumping, and mimicry (which in itself required allowances and adjustments for their different statures), Daxton had the technique nearly perfect, and soon he was swinging directly beside Blaise Bellaire with almost perfect timing. It had the effect he had wanted, and the other boy's voice was now perfectly steady beside him.

Now it was a matter of addressing what he was actually saying. In this case, the mention of the groundskeeper caused Daxton to make a most displeased face. The groundskeeper. He still hated the man, had not forgiven or forgotten the way he had been manhandled by him by the first year boats at the start of term, and was not subtle about his opinion of the man showing on his face. For a moment, Daxton's swinging got slightly more aggressive, and the equal rhythm was thrown off once more. He corrected it as soon as noticing, before turning his attention back to Blaise Bellaire once more, his curiosity piqued by something the boy had said.

The part about Charms. Charms homework at first, which had not been of any interest to Daxton, given that he had completed perhaps a handful of homeworks throughout the whole year, and deemed the rest utterly pointless. But no, it was not that part that interested him, but the declaration that the Bellaire boy would not be attended that particular class anymore. Now he thought about it, Daxton could not recall seeing him there very much at all. The most obvious question was 'why?', but as he did not have his notebook out, could not use it while swinging and did not feel like doing so either, he simply shrugged in answer to the other boy and stared at him, still swinging in time, waiting for an elaboration on the Charms boycott. As a regular lesson evader himself, Daxton was mildly intrigued.

Cosgrach had doubts about that phrase, but he didn't question her. Instead, he listened closely. Dribble? ... yeah okay it looked easy enough. Yeah. Nothing he couldn't do.

So, okay, his turn.

He got the ball... and kicked it... again, and again... and suddenly it was too far away from him because he had kicked it too hard.

Oops.

"Well yeah obviously I need to kick softer but this is easy." Just so she knew.

The young lioness watched the Professor dribbled the ball around. Okay, as a newbie in football he didn't really do a bad thing. Instead, she thought that he's better than Teddy. But well, he really needed to kick it softer. And she just nodded when Culloden said it was easy for him. Well, he hadn't experience how to do the zig zag dribbling like what she had to do on her football practice back when she was still in muggle school football team.

"Yeah, you're better than my twin brother." Hehehe. It was a compliment, okay? "Can you pass the ball to me? Then I'll teach you how to score."

He was better than someone? COOL! He grinned smugly, and passed the ball to her.

If only he knew that Teddy Burton SUCKED at most sports, especially football.... But maybe it'd be better that she didn't tell Culloden about that.

Receiving the ball that had been passed by the Professor, the young lioness received it with her. "But it wouldn't be easy if you faced a whole team. There are 10 people who wants to steal the ball and a keeper at the goalpost." She explained. "But now, it's just you and me. So how about we have 1 on 1 match? Come on. Try to steal the ball from my feet!" Ava dribbled the ball around the playground. Catch me if you can, Professor!

Blaise liked to think he was an expert at conversations with Daxton by now because the boy never walked away from him with a look of scorn and because he was the only one talking. Hard to get mad at yourself, you know? So he would continue talking and while talking his focus shifted to his present company. The fact he didn't talk meant he would have to look for other cues but he didn't mind that all too much.

First cue, the boy didn't like the Groundskeeper. If nothing else--because there was nothing else--it was evident in the face his face contorted the way he didn't and how haphazardly he was now pumping. "You don't like Mr. McLeod? I've never talked to him before but he seemed really nice at the boats. Did he do something? Was it something he said?" Maybe not that much an expert at conversations with Daxton if he kept asking questions that required expounding but it was a natural habit.

The look of curiosity his friend wore was all he reason he needed to go into his long winding explanation about the horrors that were some lessons at Hogwarts...and so he did.

"It's both Charms and Transfiguration. I think they're kinda dumb and my wand obviously doesn't wanna work well in 'em so I keep falling behind." Even with all his reading. "It's 'cause my wand's a girl and she doesn't like me very much. You know how girls get when they don't like you so she never listens and never wants to cast until she has a mind to which...isn't very helpful at all." The boy swung a little harder, distracting himself somewhat with the swaying motion that took him to and fro. "It's no big deal, I don't think I'm really missing out on anything. Do they do fun stuff in those lessons?" Having not been there all year, he didn't know that Daxton only frequented lessons SOMETIMES too.

Oh. 10 people. Cool, right, then he imagined it to be hard.

BUT, steal the ball he could! Oblivious to fouls, he took out his wand, did a cushioning charm and just tackled her by sticking out his leg in her way. He was thoughtful, see?

"Score?"

Sitting on a swing, the blonde swung back and forth, yawning a bit in the process. Since dancing again, Timmy had forgotten how much energy it took. Or maybe she was out of shape and it felt more tiring than before? Either way, she knew this was what she wanted to do again. Swinging her legs back and forth, Timmy went up higher, able to see partially over the lake and grounds. Soon after, she started to sing and fairly loudly too. As if she'd care who even heard her. They could always just turn the other way or cover their ears. Leaning back a bit, Timmy closed her eyes and enjoyed the chilly breeze that passed through her blonde hair.

With his homework done, he had time for training, and that he did. After hitting the training room for some target practice, Zeke had turned himself out to the grounds for a run - he kept this up around the lake, but he slowed as he neared the playground. He needed to stretch, or his calves would cramp up again.

It was as he was approaching that he recognised the blonde figure on the swings, with her back to him, and he couldn't help but grin in anticipation.

Slowly, quietly and carefully, he got nearer and nearer.... watching as she swung too and fro...

and....

"BOO!" he yelled, grabbing her and the swing as they swung toward him. It dragged him forward only a short way in the momentum, but he had effectively brought the lioness to a standstill. Hi there.

After some time, Timmy started singing to herself, still swinging her feet. The grounds felt oddly quiet today. Maybe considering it was still chilly out and most people were probably drowning themselves in hot chocolate. Come to think of it, the blonde could go for some tea after her swinging session. Maybe cake too. Or cupcakes. Where was Brian to pig out with her? Or to help her with the homework she needed to finish? Where were his brains when she needed them? Ew, she was thinking about homework when she was enjoying good swing time. That is, up until someone decided to give her a small heart attack.

Timmy screamed. Screamed loudly enough for anyone within a twenty feet radius to hear her. Clutching onto the chains, the blonde slowly turned around when the swing stopped and looked at the person. She dead panned and punched him in the shoulder. "Why would you do that?!" She yelled at Zeke. Wiggling away from him and landing on her feet, Tim sighed in relief and looked at her friend again. "One of these days, I'm gonna get you back,"

His timing couldn't have been more perfect. As sneaky as he could be - because he had PRACTICED being covert - her singing was the perfect cover for his approach. The end result of this was epic. Her scream - as much as he felt for her - was just too amusing, and he couldn't help but grin like he'd just been told he'd won't he lottery of life. Which he had. Life was great, right down to this very moment. "I think you woke the neighbours," he teased, peering around to see if anyone was running to her aid. Heh.

"Ow," he muttered before chuckling at her punch. It didn't really hurt, much, but the gesture was worth any pain she could inflict on him. With Timmy finding her feet, Zeke relinquished his hold of the swing, letting it sway between them and meet its own end.

"Why? I think you know the answer to that..." because why not? AND because he liked messing with her, it was great entertainment. Of course, she was welcome to try to get him back, he had no objections to this, so a smug smile and nose scrunch was what followed her threat. "I'd like to see you try." Really he would. But he hadn't come all this way JUST to taunt her, so helping himself to the swing she was sitting on, Zeke wiggled his brows in her direction. "Been keeping out of trouble?"

But why Zeke had to scare the living day lights of the her? It was like they were made to torment each other. "Actually, I think I woke the giant squid," Timmy went along with it and nodded. Though, there were still some people staring at them after the whole scene had happened. Were their eyes permanently stuck that way from the beginning? Either way, Timmy thought they had to start looking away since nothing else was happening. Least nothing interesting. Tim rolled her eyes at him. She did know the answer. It was simply because he found entertainment in bugging and giving her heart attacks. Timmy prodded his shoulder and sat down on the ground, patting the spot next to her.

"Don't worry, we practically live together and there's plenty of time to get you back," With that being said, why hadn't she made more guy friends in Gryffindor? This needed to change soon. Very soon. Pondering a bit, the blonde nodded her head at Zeke's next question. "Sadly, yes. Ever since the almost detention I got from Culloden, I've been on the down low and it's a boring life. Buuuuuuuut. I've started dancing again," Because all those months she had stopped were super boring and nothing interesting happened anyway.

The giant squid! HA! Zeke glanced over in the direction of the lake, wondering if in fact her scream could have been heard all that way, or even all that way AND under water. Probably not, but it was still an interesting concept. Just how sensitive was the squids hearing? Or was it deaf by now, cause it was super old? AND... could squids even hear to begin with??? Despite having just made himself comfortable on the swing, he accepted Timmy's invitation to join her on the ground, casually bumping into her as he moved to lay down. Sitting up was too much effort at the moment, and his muscles would benefit from the stretch. Arms above his head, he got settled.

A couple of years ago he would have insisted he belonged in Ravenclaw, but it was as clear as day to him now that he belonged in Gryffindor. Why? Because even though Tim could be intimidating as hell, he was brave enough to poke her, prod her, and invite her revenge. Heh, it was all in good fun. "I'll sleep with one eye open then, just for you." How considerate of him, no? She was perfectly right though, they did live together, he only hoped there would be enough to distract her in the common room... he didn't much fancy screaming like a girl (not that he would) in front of his own people. That would be a low blow.

Shaking his head with a "tsk tsk tsk," Zeke suppressed the urge to chuckle at her more, because Culloden? What? Why?! "Almost detention?" he queried, "do I know about this one?" Because if not, then she really should tell, he loved a good story. Brows arching with interest regarding her dancing again, he had to ask, "And how's that going for you?" Good, he hoped... then again, she wouldn't be doing it if it wasn't. Right? Somehow he thought there were far better ways to spend ones time than dancing.

Timmy nodded and gave him a thumbs up for the eye thing. Not like she would do something to him in his sleep. ...no actually, she would try very hard. Clearly it would be something Zeke wouldn't feel while sleeping. Maybe she'd change his hair color or give him boils. Either way, she had to start planning. But she didn't have energy for that right now. "I'll be sleeping under your bed; ready to get you at the right time. When I pop up, we'll see who wakes the neighbors this time," She smirked a little, while fixing the laces of her shoes. Not that she'll actually do it because who knew if the fourth year boys were clean or not. Most boys at their age were dirty and smelled funny.

Timmy tilted her head at him. Did she never tell him about their first potions class of the term? How she yelled at Culloden and he taught she was some spoiled brat? Yeah, probably not. "It's the one when I called Culloden an 'old cranky pants' because we didn't really bring him dinner or snacks for class. Like, can't he make his own food or ask the elves? His reward should be students with top marks in his class, and sadly that isn't me," The blonde laughed and shrugged. And she had the same professor for the next four terms left of her life here. That was such a long time like what even? Maybe he'd retire soon. As for the dancing, Tim smiled a little and lied down on her back. "It's good so far. I'm so out of shape, though. My body doesn't move the same anymore, plus the injury made things harder," That stupid injury that made her stop for months and is now making her life more difficult to jump back into dancing.

Her thumbs up thoroughly amused him, she was playing along and he did rather enjoy a game or two. Actually sleeping with an eye open wasn't going to happen though, he needed his beauty sleep, and it was hard to do with his face all out of sorts - he knew this for a fact, having tried it once many years ago. It had failed then, and it would fail now. Timmy's threats though, had him biting his bottom lip in an effort not to laugh, to corners of his lips curled up too. The image of Timmy sleeping under his bed was just too funny, and it gave him ideas. If that was her plan then he would have to leave a nice surprise there for her. A welcome-to-under-my-bed present. "It might be a good idea to leave a sock on the door so we know not to fart too much when you're there... that stuff can get trapped in mattresses you might be hiding under." Was she grossed out yet? Because he kind of was.

And OH!!!! He did know that one, HA!

"That was hilarious, but I don't get the whole food rule thing... it's not uncommon for Professor's to lose their minds though." Just saying, they all seemed to have nutty rules of some description this year. It was damn near impossible to eat in the Great Hall anymore, or at least, it wasn't as pleasant.

Zeke turned his head to the side as Tim lay down too, he arched his back for a moment to feel the stretch before relaxing against the grass again. All he could really was nod, dancing wasn't something he understood. Being in shape though, that was something else, "You could always come running with me if you like," he offered, though with whatever injury she had in the past, running may not be the answer.

Timmy made a face and poked Zeke's forehead. She was grateful her brother wasn't gross. Annoying and irritating, but not gross. "Maybe I'll just hide out in someone else's bed or wait until you come back to prank you," Either worked for her. As long as she wasn't trapped in their disgusting farts and whatnot. Clearly this was a reason why she didn't have many Gryffindor boys as her friends. Especially if they're like Zeke. But nonetheless, he was her favorite one. "I just need to plan something for you. Something special," Yup, whatever it was.

"Clearly he would like us to do more labor and bring him food because he's too lazy to do so," That was definitely her reasoning behind all of it.She yawned a little. The mere thought of it had bore her. Or maybe it was because of Culloden. Ehh. Turning her head towards her friend, Timmy gave him a small nod. "Sure, I'm always up for a run. Should get back into shape anyway," Because now going up the steps was an even more dreadful thing for the blonde to do.

The poke to the forehead wasn't necessary, but it was highly amusing and so he wiggled his eyebrows to encourage her. He was asking for trouble, really, he was. The only thing more fun than pranking, was being pranked - and having the opportunity to return it... again. "You can use Frankie's, I'm sure he won't mind." Or rather, he would, but that wasn't HIS problem. Heh. And she was doing a good job of flattering him too. How nice of her. "Aaawwww, plan something special just for me? How sweet of you." So sweet, boosting his ego a tad. He really was teasing though, because she was making it SO easy for him right now.

Aaaahhhhhhhhh, it was a great day to be him.

But he wasn't interested in being anybody's house elf. The whole labour thing and fetching food... was definitely growing old. He didn't much care for the notices asking for help either, there weren't even points to be earned in doing the work. What a rip! "Too right," he agreed with her. Lazy. The lot of them... or most of them, whatever.

But she WAS up for a run? Brilliant. "You better be quick though, don't want you slowing me down or anything." Again, he was saying this in jest, evidenced by his smile and slight elbow nudge. As great as it was to just burn off energy and zone out, company would be refreshing, and perhaps even motivating.
