The Pathways

http://i1026.photobucket.com/albums/...psvyq2migq.png
Whether you are crossing over for your outdoor lessons or merely exploring the grounds, you walk upon this footpath. Enjoy the fresh air, butterflies, and the many vegetation growing as you walk on a spider web network of paths linking the Courtyard to almost every area of the grounds. You may even take a break to stop and smell the many roses as a bench or two appear magically at your leisure. Who knows, perhaps benches won't be the only thing you witness appearing here.

For Raven <3

Norah Kittredge was on a mission. That's right, a mission. It hadn't exactly started as a mission, but it was one now and that's really all that mattered. The big ginormous problem with Hogwarts was that everything had this horrible tendency to be much more interesting than studying, which hadn't been that ginormous of a problem until now, on account of OWL's happening. They weren't happening for ages though, so it was okay, right? Right.

She'd been on her way to the Courtyard because that was a place where everybody could see her reading textbooks like a Real Responsible Prefect, but THEN she'd seen a butterfly and THEN she'd needed to follow it and THEEEEN she'd had the totally radical idea of finding lots and lots of butterflies and making friends with them because who wouldn't want butterfly friends? It'd be almost as good as if her mum had let her get a kitten. Almost.

The fifth year had wasted no time in dropping her bag and all the books she was SUPPOSED to be reading in the middle of the path and stepping into flowers and plants on the edge. Where'd the butterfly go, hmm? Wheeeeere? "Come baaaaack little butterfly. Pretty please? I'll find you lots of nice flowers, I promise." Butterflies liked bright flowers. She KNEW that for sure, considering that she liked to consider herself an expert on such things.

A good fresh air of September. Hmm...

You know what that means! Time to go out!

Yeah, unlike Teddy who preferred enjoyed a nice Fall weather by snugging in a room with books and hot chocolate, Ava Burton loved enjoying the weather by going outside, taking a deep breath and having a small walk around. Especially that she's in Hogwarts now. Hogwarts, dude! So it's such a waste to just spend the day in a room (though the hot chocolate seemed nice.)

So now... here she was. Walking through the pathways with her precious Russian blue cat. The brunette thought that Preston also needed a fresh air, so that's why she brought him. "Isn't it better, Preston? I know that you're bored staying at the dorm for a long time because I am too." She talked to her cat. Wait... did she just talk to a cat? Yes, and she didn't care. It showed that she cared her pet very much.

Ava stopped from her walking when she noticed an older student was... Well, she didn't really know what on earth that girl was doing. "Do you lost something?" She asked, because it seemed like she had lost something and perhaps, Ava could help to find it.

ChapterEight 09-06-2015 05:38 AM

Tom already felt pretty lost, but he guessed it was expected since it was the first time he'd ever been on the Hogwarts grounds and the place was ENORMOUS. He didn't really mind being lost here, because all the trees and flowers were beautiful and unlike anything he'd seen growing up in Russia. And he was sure that eventually he'd find his way somewhere else, maybe to the lake or the Whomping Willow or some other interesting place.

When he came upon a girl who looked to be around his age, he blurted, "Nice cat! My name's Tom." Of course then he noticed the strange older girl a bit further down the path and raised his eyebrow, whispering to the girl with the cat, "What on earth is she doing?"

"Who's Preston?" So much for concentrating on the search. Norah poked her head out from the shrubbery and smiled at the girl who was standing there. She stepped back on to the path and pulled her bag closer to the edge so nobody would trip, before straightening up and pulling a couple leaves from her hair. Next came a careful inspection of her badge to make sure she hadn't already soiled it so close to the beginning of term, and then she deemed herself all set because a little bit of dirt on her clothes wasn't much to worry about. She'd just have to leave this particular event out of her next letter to her mum because she HAD promised be cleaner this year, which was apparently important for a 'young lady.' This didn't count though, she was on a mission.

"I haven't exactly lost anything, I just..." Grinning sheepishly, she waved a hand in the direction of the plants. "I saw a butterfly so then I thought maybe I could try and catch it 'cause that's always fun. Except now I don't know where it's gone." That was a legitimate way to pass time, right? It seemed pretty legitimate to her, at least before she had to say it out loud. All her GENIUS ideas always seemed to make a whole lot more sense in her head, which was unfair because everything was more exciting when you shared it with somebody else. Even if you didn't know who that other person was.

Over here JESS!

Right before elevenses, Ethan took the opportunity to go outside school and enjoy the fine weather before it got too cold. So, instead of bringing his revision notes with him, he got his skateboard out and headed towards the pathways. It isn’t a typical spot to skateboard, but he can definitely do something about the uneven trail.

As soon as he arrived, he got his wand out, and transformed the irregular surface of the pathway to a smooth one. Grinning, and satisfied with his work, he kept his wand inside his left sleeve, positioned his skateboard on the ground, and rode it.

“Woooohooo!” Ethan pushed with his right foot, picked up more speed as he did so, his grin getting bigger by the minute.

Angel!

A break from being inside is what was planned for the morning and nothing more as of yet. All Hady had in mind was a walk outside with Hagan her cat. So it was as she reached the pathways that she set her furry baby down on the ground beside her. "Alright Hagan you're free to roam about just so you don't wreck anything," She spoke to him quietly the cat staring at her like she was insane.

Laughing quietly to herself the brunette shoved her hands into her pockets as she headed off in a random direction. A small glance beside her confirmed that Hagan was close by and keeping up. The weather was nice, not many others were around and so far her mind was clear of any 'troubles'. Just so it stayed this way she'd be good to go.

Angel decided it was time to go for a walk. She was looking around when suddenly she saw Hady. "Hey!" Angel remembered something and she was totally looking forwards to this. "HADY!!! HADY!!! HADY!!!" Angel shouted... she hoped that Hady could here her because she wanted her friend and she wanted to give her the present now.

Angel looked down at the box of chocolates and the card she had gotten for her friend, it was mainly a thank you card for the way her friend had looked after her on the train... she was just so grateful she had a friend like Hady. "I've got a present for you here Hady."

Hady didn't make it very far along the path when she heard what was unmistakably someone shouting her name. Stopping in her tracks and quickly scooping up Hagan before he had a chance to wander off she turned around to see who it was.

A slight grin across her face as she spotted her friend. "Hey Angel! How are you?," She asked remaining where she was so that the older girl could join her. Hopefully Angel was doing better then she had been on the train not to long ago, she had been so upset that day. What was this about a gift though? It wasn't her birthday or anything like that.

Beatrice was taking a bit of a detour down to the lake to find some small pebbles or rocks, when she observed a lad changing the pathway to a smooth path. Her eyebrows raised, impressed. But her impression turned to surprised as the boy seemed to be speeding towards her, on a skateboard.

"EEK!" she yelled, quickly stepping to the side and tripping over a rock on the path. Lucky she was wearing pants and not a skirt! Merlin. Once she realised she was safe on the ground, she glanced at the rock, thinking it would be great for what she wanted. She whipped her wand out, non-verbally shrunk it, and fit it in her pocket. Then she remembered the lad was on the skateboard. She stood up, dusted herself off, and said "That was some mighty good magic you used there." She hoped he was going to attend her classes.

The wind...the SMOOTH path...it was perfect. Well, everything was perfect UNTIL the seventh year saw a woman blocking his way, and SHRIEKED. His happy face turned into a horrified one. Ethan flailed his arms, stepped on the back board to stop himself from trampling the woman with his skateboard, and dismounted his board unceremoniously. He saw his board crash into one of the boulders, but didn’t mind it when his gaze turned to the woman who was on the ground.

WHATINTHENAMEOFMERLIN!? :whaa:

Why does it have to be the NEW professors? He had an incident with Professor Myers that morning back in the wooden bridge, and now this?! Ethan was at least quick on his feet to get up—amid the shallow lesion on his elbow, and quickly approached the woman. Professor! Are you alright?! I AM SOOO SORRY I didn’t see you!” See why it pays to listen to the Opening Speech? He’d know who’s who, and Ethan knows that SHE is the new Transfiguration Professor.

Merlin. If it were still Bellaire...he would already have his bags packed, and on the earliest train going back to London. Still a bit worried, Ethan subconsciously reached out for his wound and wiped it with his hand. Blood. As soon as he saw it, he wiped his stained hand on his trousers. “Uh...thanks, ma’am. I have been practising at home.” Of age and all, mhmm. “You’re not hurt? I’ll bring you to Healer Murdoch if you are...” he said gesturing towards the general direction of the Castle.

Still petting her cat, she noticed that there was a boy standing not too far from her. Oh, Hello theeeere.... "Thank you." The brunette beamed as that boy complimented her cat. "And nice to meet you, Tom! I'm Ava." She introduced herself to Tom.

And what was the older girl doing? To be honest, Ava didn't have any idea. It seemed like she lost something or maybe not, dunno. The world was full of weird people, that's what her big brother said. And maybe she realized that she was being watched by two first-years students so she stopped her activity and greeted them. Oh my, she's the Hufflepuff prefect! Ava did notice the badge because it was same as the one that Adi's and he's the prefect too. "Oh. Meet Preston, my cat." She said and showed Miss Prefect her cat when she asked who Preston was.

Catching the butterfly? "Well, I don't think the butterfly will be there since it flies." That's the logic. "Maybe it just flew higher and higher. Or I think the butterfly knows that it's gonna be caught so perhaps it's hiding somewhere." The animals did have good instinct, you know?

"That's a really nice name for a cat." She gave the younger girl a big grin, then turned her attention down to Preston. "Can I--I mean may I pet him? Or her?" It wasn't fair to just ASSUME it was a boy cat, okay? If it was Ava's very own cat then she was allowed to name 'em whateeeeever she wanted. That's just how it worked, or so she had heard, because her parents still hadn't let her get a cat yet. You'd think being a prefect would prove that she was responsible enough for a kitten but apparently not. Maybe her parents still couldn't figure out why they'd chosen her for the badge, 'cause Norah sure hadn't figured out yet.

Grinning sheepishly, she glanced back at the bushes she'd just been climbing through. "I'm sure it had loads of places to go, but there must be a way to bring it back. Butterflies like bright colors 'n stuff." All of a sudden the idea sounded a whole lot dumber than it had before, especially with TWO whole firsties there staring at her. They probably thought she was a total weirdo too, which was extra unfortunate because she'd promised herself to be normal-er (whatever that meant). Butterfly catching. Who DOES that. Okay fine, she still thought it was a kind of good idea but she could pretend she didn't for the sake of non-weirdness. "I guess it was silly." Norah chewed on her bottom lip and cast her eyes downward for a moment because that'd hadn't been entirely true, before looking Ava in the eye again and standing up to her full five feet of height. Prefects were WELCOMING. YEAH. "It's really nice to meet you, Ava!" AND YOU, OTHER FIRSTIE WHOSE NAME SHE DIDN'T KNOW. "What're you and Preston doing out here?" Probably something more respectable than catching butterflies. Sigh. Wasn't this all supposed to get easier now that she was old?

Olathe had made her way from the Hufflepuff Common Room outside to the grounds pathways with out any troubles. She grinned to herself proud of the fact she hadn't got turned around or confused on the stairs. Olathe casually adjusting the messenger bag on her shoulder as she strolled along the pathways enjoying the fresh air looking for a nice spot to relax and draw something.

For Ickle Henry!

Noelle hasn't had the chance to venture out on the Pathways yet, but she was tired of looking around the castle for secret passages and honestly was just BORED. She wanted to get out and walk a bit. That's what her mum always did when she got bored.

Noelle wasn't at home though, so she needed to find somewhere else to walk now. She had heard about the pathways, they were her number one pick on where to walk.

Grabbing her ferret Henry (oops), Noelle started walking through the Pathways. She wished she had remembered to bring his leash, then she wouldn't have to hold in and could move her arms freely. But alas, she had forgotten and she was holding onto him securely.

The Pathways were just so PRETTY. This was definitely her new walking spot.

Fall was Olly's favorite time of year for many reasons.

1. It was the perfect weather. Not too hot but not too cold.
2. It smelled good. He couldn't explain it, it just did.
3. It was noisy. Birds were flying south for winter, making a lot of noise along the way. His footsteps went crunch crunch over leaves. It was all very satisfying.
4. It was colorful. All the leaves changed colors and it was very pretty.
5. LEAVES. And that meant leaf piles that he could jump in.

The first year had a plan to meet his sister at the edge of the pathway so they could enjoy the wonderful fall weather together. Of course it was probably going to take her longer, considering she came from farther away. There were many things he disliked about being in Slytherin, mainly revolving around not being with his sister all the time, but he did appreciate not having to go all the way to Gryffindor tower to get to his bedroom. So...sucks to be you Ellery. Surprisingly, Olly tended to be a fairly patient person. He was content for the moment to enjoy the weather while he waited for Ellery to make her way outside. Then the real fun could begin.

Butterflies? Tom remembered what his older brother had told him once about girls being practically a different species. He hadn't understood it then, but maybe he was having a better time seeing it now. He blinked a couple of times in confusion but otherwise managed to keep his expression neutral.

"You know, you can catch butterflies lots easier if you're just really still. If you try to run after them it just makes them run away. And of course if you put sugar water or something on your hand then they'll want to land on you...." Tom trailed off before he crossed the line into lecturing, because his father and brother had always told him that it was really annoying when he lectured and that really nobody wanted to hear it. He cleared his throat uncomfortably. "I'm Tom, by the way," he said to the older girl, then he turned back to Ava. "May I pet Preston, too?"

SPOILER!!: Angel
Angel smiled at she saw that Hady had realised that she was shouting her. "I'm good, I'm good, I'm goodity good!" Angel sighed, she was trying to put a brave face on the situation there was no use crying over something she couldn't change right? "You?"

Angel then realised that Hady was wondering what the gift was for. "It's a thank you for looking after me on the train." Angel held out the chocolate frogs and the cards out for her friend. "I have no idea what I would have done if you hadn't been around." Angel had thought about just staying on the train but Hady had cheered her up a bit. "Airforce say thanks as well." Angel had sent a letter with him as soon as the term had started and he wasn't back yet, but she was hoping he would be back soon.

Hady gave her older friend a light yet warm smile. The girl seemed cheerful enough causing Hady to laugh quietly at the given reply. Though it didn't seem right. It was like now Angel was....to happy. If Hady could bet anything on it right now she'd say that her friend was only trying to put on a brave face but it was alright if that's what she wanted to do. "That's good."

Still cradling Hagan in her arms she walked closer to Angel meeting her halfway as she listened to Angel explain the gift was for helping her on the train. Helping her? She hadn't really done all that much. Or that's what she had thought. "Oh, well thank you. A lot that's really nice of you," she grinned at her accepting the box of chocolate frogs and card as well. "You didn't have to get me anything though I was glad to be there, it's what friends do for each other." Most friends anyhow. The good ones. They were there when you needed them and they could be trusted. Hady gave a small laugh at the mention of Airforce. "Tell him I said he's welcome too."

"Wanna take a walk with Hagan and I? We were just enjoying the fresh air." Angel was welcome to walk along with them if she liked.

Damien was just here to chill, pick some flowers, breath in the fresh air, waste time until dinner, the kind of things you did without tv or the internet to occupy your time. He was also doing his best not to dwell on things that were happening outside the castle, things with his mom, with Rorie and Alaska of all places, and even to Amelia, who he missed quite a damn bit.

It felt like half his friends had up and left after last term, but the castle was by no means empty, nope, no way no how, hombre. If anything it seemed fuller than ever with transfers and firsts, all excited and eager to learn.

It was a strangely optimistic and pleased air that filled the castle lately, something he was unaccustomed to, and also something that made him just the tiniest bit paranoid that something insane was about to happen.

Reaching down, he grabbed a flower and plucked it up. Maybe he'd make a daisy chain for Nemo and force the sullen boy into wearing it. That could be fun.

Evie finally had a break between classes and was able to get some food. After eating a light lunch, she stuffed some extra dinner rolls into her robes pockets and headed outside for some fresh air. She planned on doing her homework this afternoon, but wanted to get outside first.

As she headed out, Evie spotted her Gryffindor BFF Damien Anderson-Belfort headed towards the pathway. Silently, she followed him, creeeeping along a good distance behind him, gnawing on her dinner rolls. Slowly, she gained on him, getting closer and closer. When she was only ten or so feet behind him (God blessed her with light feet), she saw him bend over to pick a flower and Evie decided to strike.

Suddenly, the Ravenclaw lunged after him and SMACKED him on the butt with a loud POP! and a "HAH!" and then neatly composed herself, half eaten dinner roll in hand.

"Hello."

The thing about Olly and Ellery, were that they were complements of each other. Olly liked autumn, Ellery knew this, but her favorite season was spring. Something about the light at the end of the tunnel, the itch to go outside, the flower-kissed breeze…she loved it.

But autumn was probably her second favorite. Because Olly loved it so much. Plus, leaves and crunchiness and YUMMY FOOD and Halloween. She spotted her brother while walking, and cartwheeled towards him.

"HI," she said, flopping on top of him.

THERE SHE WAS! HI ELLERY! He waved enthusiastically as soon as she spotted her, coming from a distance. And she was cartwheeling, of course she was. Olly had tried cartwheeling...once, and it was not something he wished to repeat. Needless to say, he did not have the flexibility of his sister. Ahem. "HI ELLY!" He grinned and hugged her tightly. SISTER TIME!

"Let's build a leaf pile," he proposed enthusiastically. He had been waiting ever since he had seen the first red-brown leaf fall from a tree. There were a bunch of trees on the grounds of Hogwarts, so they should be able to build a fairly large pile. The only question was how. He didn't have a rake. At home, their dads could use magic to make a pile, but Olly didn't know the proper spell(s). Hmmm.

The first year had an idea. He took out his wand and aimed it toward where most of the leaves had collected. They all had to get together. "Accio leaves!" AHHH! He may not have thought his plan through all the way. He certainly had forgotten that all of the leaves would fly toward him. Even some from the trees above flew off. Olly didn't have enough time to react and get out of the way before he was covered by a large pile of leaves. Oops.

"OllyOllyOlly. Olly oxen freeeeeeee." Ellery huggled her brother and squished him firmly. She was NEVER GOING TO LET HIM GO. Nope. He had a face, that just…reminded her of someone from a movie…something like that.

"BAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAAHH AHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA. Oh my gosh your FACE WHEN THE LEAVES HIT." And with that, she jumped into the leaf pile and probably landed on Olly, but she didn't feel him. Too many leaves.

SPOILER!!: Ava and Nora

Of course it's a nice name for a cat. Ava didn't want to name her pet in a silly name like marshmallow or whatever. She loved considering her pet as a friend of her, hence why she named it like a person. "It's a male." She answered. Preston is a male name, okay? If her cat was a female maybe she would name it like... Okay, she didn't have any idea about female cat name. And could she pet her? "Oh yeah, sure. He's a friendly cat." And of course Tom could pet him too. Her Russian blue cat was gorgeous, wasn't it?

"Aren't you too old to catch butterflies?" And not to mention that she's a PREFECT. Prefects usually were the older students who seemed mature (like Zander, Puck and Adi... well, sometimes Adi could act childish too but he's still pretty cool for being a prefect.) But she's listening to Tom's tips and tricks how to catch butterflies and maybe she could practice it later.... She's not that old for that, hehehe. "I'm just... walking around. Preston and I love the nice fall weather, and I think he's bored staying at my dorm."
