The Courtyard is a cloister on the base of the Hogwarts Castle. This cloister seems to be one of the older parts of the castle and the ceiling and walls are dilapidated. Serving as the last area before approaching Hogwart's entrance doors, it also leads to the Wooden Bridge.
In the centre of the courtyard is an antique fountain surrounded by statues of eagles. Perfect for relaxing and making wishes at. Beware, once you toss in a coin, you can never get it back as the water surface sinks deeper and deeper preventing your hand from ever reaching inside to retrieve it. A pear tree also grows in this courtyard, free of worms making it safe to snack from.

SPOILER!!: No he's not xD
Maxon looked back up at Hady at the sound of her voice. "Well. I do believe you put your eyes on the page and move them, absorbing the words with your mind." Heh. That's how you read comics. And even if he couldn't focus long enough to read, he at least wanted her to. Who knows? Maybe she'd end up liking Batman, too.
"My mom said it isn't easy to make them." That's why when he'd asked to make them as a kid, she said no, and she went on about how she wouldn't let him destroy her beautiful kitchen with any mess he might want to make. He remembered his dad taking him to the donut shop and then to the beach after that. It'd ended up being a great day.
His heart ached.
"Oh well. I guess we'll find out for sure tomorrow."
Oh so now he was being a smarty. Hady rolled her eyes playfully turning her head to stick her tongue out at him childishly. "I knew that," She laughed bumping his shoulder with hers before looking down at the comic and trying to get into reading it. Maybe if she read it out loud that would keep her more focused. It was certainly worth a try. With a quick smile sent his way she sat up straighter and began to slowly read from the first page out loud.
"Well even if it's not we might still have a good time." If the donuts didn't come out as planned they could make something else. It would stink not having donuts but that shouldn't keep them from enjoying each other's company.
"Tomorrow." Hady nodded firmly.

Maxon laughed when she stuck her tongue out and playfully nudged her again. "I'm just saying." He fell silent as she started reading aloud, his eyes not leaving her face. SHE WAS JUST SO PRETTY. And the sound of her voice was soothing. Yep. He could get used to this.
"I know we'll have a good time," he said. They'd had such a wonderful time so far. Because Hady was so wonderful, and Maxon now had THE HUGEST PUPPY DOG CRUSH EVER. Embarrassing.

Hady gave him her signature smirk when she was nudged. She had perfected that look years before even coming to Hogwarts. It had to be in her blood or something. She knew they were supposed to be reading and that's what she was TRYING to do. If only he's stop staring at her like that and making her confused where she couldn't think straight or see the words clearly on the page to keep reading.
Even with her knees pulled upwards towards her chest, comic set on her legs and eyes fixed on the pages as she read out loud from it she knew he was watching her. One hand held her lollipop while the other was used to flip each page. It was a bit easier like this as reading out loud somewhat kept hold of her focus more. If Maxon was gathering anything she was saying at all she didn't know but it was alright, Hady didn't mind it.
Falling silent her finger on the top of a page about to turn it she looked up at him and smiled. "Good." Everyone always had a good time when they hung out with her. Anything other the a good time just wasn't possible. Turning her attention back to the comic she continued to read not even seeming to notice as it slowly grew darker and the chill got colder around them as it neared supper time.

Maxon looked up at the darkening sky. It was getting late, and colder by the minute. And his stomach was growling. Sheesh. Was it dinner time already? "We should probably head back in soon..." It looked like it might snow again, and he did NOT wanna be out here for that, no sir.

Huh? Head inside. Why would they do-
Hady tipped her head back looking upwards at the darkening sky. Oh. Now that could probably be why. When had it gotten so dark and so cold? It wasn't like this just moments ago, was it? She hadn't thought so but maybe it had.
Shivering slightly her warming charms having long worn off the brunette nodded her head. "Yeah we probably should. It's most likely nearly dinner time." She closed the comic passing it back to him before grabbing her own bag and slinging the strap over her shoulder. "Tomorrow?"
That had really become there go to line now hadn't it?

EEK! Caleb was excited and nervous. SO EXCITED AND NERVOUS. He had been planning on being all cutesy and whatnot at Christmas, but then her brother just had to butt in like the annoying brother that he was. He hoped Levi didn't end up like that. Hopefully before he got to the annoying stage, Caleb would be all grown up and wouldn't be embarrassed about anything anymore.
Perhaps it was a good thing, though. Because now it was VALENTINE'S DAY and that was even better than Christmas!
Bouncing his leg nervously, Caleb pulled his scarf just a bit tighter around his neck as he waited for her. He wasn't sure why they hadn't agreed to meet in the common room...it was literally JUST down the hall for both of them...wait, that made so much more sense. WHY DID THEY NOT DO THAT?

Grace was nervous. Really nervous. But she didn't really know why she was nervous. This was Caleb. She'd practically grown up with Caleb. But everything was different now. Had been for a while actually. He wasn't just a friend to her any more. And that made her nervous. What if he didn't feel the same? But he'd sent her heart cookies, so that had to mean something right.
The walk from the common room to the courtyard helped a little. But as she saw him she just got all nervous again. She pulled her scarf tighter around her neck. It was kind of chilly out here. Smiling, she headed over to where he was.
"Hi."

"Hi."
YAYYY there she was! "Hey Grace!" Caleb grinned and stood up to give her...a hug? Wait, were they at the hugging stage? They hadn't normally hugged as a friendly greeting up until this point. Oh no. Too late. He'd already started to stand up. Ok, this was happening. But he was still feeling weird about it, so he kind of paused, and then weirdly ended up doing a...one armed hug thing.
He cleared his throat. Well. That was...weird. Nice job, Newell.
"So, um...how's life?" he asked. WHY WAS THIS SUDDENLY DIFFICULT?

Grace just smiled. Had Caleb always been that pretty to look at? She didn't know, but she did know that she enjoyed looking at him. In that non-creepy way of course. He was pretty. So she was okay to look at him right? Obviously if it wasn't going to be creepy though. Oh. Was he going to hug her? They hadn't hugged her before. But she kind of liked the thought of it. Even though it felt a little awkward as they hugged. Or maybe that was just her that felt awkward.
Now. That was a weird question. "Life... is life?" She was only at school. She didn't really have that much of a life yet. "School is school." And she didn't really like it that much. "How're you?"

One thing Daxton had noticed about Hogwarts, was that even as the seasons rotated and they passed into the warmer months, the inside of the castle was still comfortably cool. It made sense, of course, but that did not make it any less of a welcome discovery.
Today, though, he had ventured outside, initially intending to spend some time up on top of the wooden bridge, though something along the way had drawn his attention instead. As he had passed through the courtyard, barefoot as always, Daxton had noticed, not for the first time, the fountain in the middle of the uneven paved floor. A whole array coins glinted invitingly, tauntingly, from under the water, and the first year found himself diverting and stepping closer.
He had never tried to fish any coins out before; there was usually someone around who might see him, and though Daxton did not think he would be breaking any rules in doing so, he was still not so keen on being seen. But there was hardly anyone around today, Daxton realised, as he looked this way and that, before kneeling down at the edge of the fountain and peering into the water. It did not look all that deep; he could just scoop a few out and quickly be on his way - perhaps come back to do the same every now and then, subtly taking a little at a time.
Seeing as he was wearing a regular t-shirt and shorts - considered by some to be unseasonable, but perfect, in his opinion, for staying cool - Daxton did not need to roll up his sleeves, so he went ahead and dipped his hand right in to the cold, cold water, reaching for the bottom of the fountain and trying to grasp at some coins. But he could not. They seemed to have moved, and Daxton cursed his rotten luck. Was this some sort of trickster magic? To toy with him, play with him? As he reached further and further into the fountain, further than at first glance he should ever have been able to, he started to think that might be so.
But the coins. They were wasted in here, and he wanted them.

SPRING HAD SPRUNG! Or started to rather, so there was a bit of extra spring in the astronomer's steps as he took Pebbles on her usual stroll in the early afternoon. The lack of snow cover was certainly welcoming, but also served as a reminder for a conversation that still haunted him. Perhaps haunt was not the right word as it was not something from a ghost story or anything he would have nightmares over. Life altering discussions, whether or not anything had been officially decided because of them, were just the sort to leave the astronomer a little on edge.
As were most things that influenced human emotions, they were hard to push out of the man's mind. Even with the glorious distraction that science provided.
Fresh air was helping. Kind of.
Sort of?
Not really, no.
Rubbing the back of his neck with his free hand, Airey continued on his way with Pebbles' walk and definitely took notice of a certain first year doing a bit of fishing in the fountain. The lack of shoes was still something that baffled the man, but since this was not his classroom and nowhere was it written that students had to wear shoes at all times - sweet solstice think of the beds! - he mentally shrugged it off.
"You know...this seems like the opportune moment to practice a certain Summoning Charm," he hinted at the Ravenclaw as he strolled closely by. He had been hoping to run into this one. "Or to get a little crafty with some gum."
Which he probably had in his enchanted breast pocket. Spearmint, if he was not mistaken.

The footsteps did not go unnoticed by Daxton, and neither did the tell-tale clunk-clunk-clunk of a pet rock being exercised that he had grown accustomed to hearing around the castle from time to time. Perhaps that was why he did not hurry to stop what he was doing; Airey Flamsteed was weird enough that someone fishing coins out of a fountain would likely be viewed more a 'fun' pass-time than anything else. As long as Daxton could ignore the fact that he had seen his house, knew that the Prince family had accepted a certain hardship fund (and he very pointedly tried to), it was all... fine.
Sure enough, as the man passed by, he resorted to giving him suggestions. Daxton, now with his arm shoulder-deep in the water and holding back his sleeve with his free hand, looked around at Airey Flamsteed and considered him for a moment. He shook his head at the mention of the Summoning Charm; Daxton, while having been quite proficient in some sort of magic before even purchasing a wand, had not yet managed a single 'proper' spell at Hogwarts, being that he had not uttered a word nor incantation all year, and additionally had nowhere near the ability he needed to officially master non-verbal magic.
Gum, though. That might be an idea. There was, of course, the possibility that the water would stop the gum sticking to any of the coins, but it might work. Stranger things had happened on the Hogwarts grounds, apparently.
Daxton withdrew his arm from the fountain and sat back on his heels. He shook the water off as best he could, sending droplets flying everywhere, then began patting his pockets to see if maybe he had a packet or two of chewing gum that he had pilfered off another student. As far as he could tell, he did not (or, at least, the packets were not in the pockets of these shorts), and so the Ravenclaw turned those bright blue eyes of his onto Airey Flamsteed to give him a searching sort of look. Gum? Did he have some? Daxton really did want to get those coins.
Though perhaps not quite enough that he would explicitly ask for help.

It was no longer cold outside like the blonde had liked, which dampened her mood drastically as she made her way out i to the courtyard and into warmer air. This was no way for a cold blooded person, such as herself, should live. She walked onward anyway stopping at the statue and admiring it as rays of sunshine beat down on her pale face and blonde hair. She let out a exaggerated sigh as her right hand raised to touch the beack of one of the eagle statues. She wanted snow.... Or Max.. Either would suffice.

Astrid had heard about the nicer weather and had even seen glimpse of it from her office window. She has been so wrapped up in her work that she hardly paid attention to it. In her mind she still had it that it was cold and snowy. Of course it wouldn't be. They were in mid March and it was bound to get a little warmer and sun would be peaking out more than in Winter.
Deciding that it was a great day to get out of her office and stretch her limbs, the brunette exited her little hobbit hole and took a walk around the grounds.
Her to-do list still roamed her head-space even as she told herself to relax. It was when she spotted a familiar blonde head that it momentary drifted away.
"Warm day, is it not, Miss Landvik?" she asked, pausing, her hands clasped behind her back.

Shed be lying if she said she liked this weather or that the voice that called her name made her jump in excitment... In fact she froze at the sound of her the womans voice. Ugh, here goes... "Ms. Baxteeerrr. Rather normal day, no?" the uncomfortable awkwardness was dripping from the sixth years tounge so much so you could have painted the mona lisa with it in detail. "i do miss the cold though." he hand had wandered over to the statues wing as she avoided eye cobtact with the professor. It would be REALLY nice for Max to emerge now.... Really really nice.

With a smile, Astrid turned her face up to the sun. Ah, that felt nice. Better than the artificial light in her office.
Glancing back at the lioness, she avoided smiling in amusement. Astrid was rather comfortable here. "Normal? I hope not. It would get boring." Would too. Spontaneous weather, now that was something to look forward to.
The cold, right. Astrid has heard about the cold and the snow and the snowboarding all from Maximilian. "What do you miss about it?" She was curious.

"well, it is a rather boring day." unless there was a party or something exciting going on that she was unaware of. It wouldnt be too much of a surprise to her of she was missing out on something. It seemed like she was always the last to know everything which was a blessing and a curse all on its own. "is is not a bad thing though. The boring day. I find it rather relaxing." didn't she? No running around and beibg pulled every which way by students must've been nice for the new professor.
Uhhhh... What was she still doing here?! Izzy had gone from the statute to messing with a aimless string hanging from her jumper as the professor tried to engage in rather garmless conversations. "i love the cold... And the snow. Its my favorite weather." she smiled at the memory as she relived the feeling of a cold winters breeze on her nose. "plus i just really despise sweating. It is disgusting." Rather pointless and unpleasent body function if you asked her.

Astrid agreed with that. A boring day could mean no work and free time. Merlin knows she could do with some. Merlin also knew she took on much more than she had to. "I suppose you make a point. I should apply for more of these boring days." And invest in hiking on one of those said days.
An amused smile from the Charms Professor. "You seem to be adventurous," she commented. Snowboarding wasn't an easy skill to acquire, she would know. And so would her bum that ended sore and numb from that time she attempted the sport. "Do you like adventures?"

Thankful for his self study on human behavioral patterns, Airey knew precisely what it was that the first year was asking for and he was all too eager to oblige when he remembered he has something other than spearmint tucked away in is enchanted breast pocket.
"You're in luck," he grinned as he wiggled his fingers and searched through his pocket. "Got a bit of a collector's item here...somewhere...something not even your parents have heard of, I can almost personally guarantee. Bit of a collector's item...aHA! Here it is!" Revealing a packet almost ancient looking, the astronomer handed the Ravenclaw a stick of bubble gum ironically labeled "Man on the Moon." "Come with a collectible card of a well known astronaut on them, similar to chocolate frog cards only a bit more coveted and valuable," he explained as he popped his own stick of gum in his mouth and began to use his finger to push through the rest of the box. "I'm just missing...two....and then I'll have the complete set...but if this box comes with one I do already have...you are welcome to it. Start your own collection."

"I'm just missing...two....and then I'll have the complete set...but if this box comes with one I do already have...you are welcome to it. Start your own collection."
Having pushed himself up to his feet, Daxton approached Airey Flamsteed with no small degree of curiosity at the mention of a collector's item. He tiptoed his way across the paving slabs and waited to see what this mysterious item was.
Bubblegum. Well, that did make sense, given what they (read: Airey Flamsteed) had been talking about, but Daxton had been hoping for something significantly more interesting; what use was a collectible stick of gum? He took the proffered stick of gum and inspected it for a moment, processing what he was hearing about... oh, collectible cards.
This captured his attention a little better; Daxton's head snapped up and he regarded Airey Flamsteed for a moment. Aired Flamsteed, who had a collection of coveted and valuable cards. The Ravenclaw gave a vaguely distracted nod of the head at the suggestion he start his own collection of cards (he was certainly considering it, though perhaps not in quite the way the man before him suspected), placed his own stick of gum in his mouth, and started chewing.
And immediately screwed up his face in a kind of surprised distaste. Bubblegum, bubblegum. He had been too distracted to register that it would be a problem. Sweet and strange and nowhere near any of the flavours he enjoyed or was used to, but it was gum, and gum was sticky and he wanted to get those coins out of the fountain. So with an expression on his face that was likely incredibly amusing to anyone other than himself, Daxton did his utmost to chew up the gum without tasting it, a feat that was, to say the least, impossible. He continued to watch Airey Flamsteed, however, digging through that box, all the while torn between thinking of the unpleasant taste frenzy going on in his mouth and wondering just how much money a 'Man on the Moon' card (or an almost entire collection) might go for.
Not for the first time this year, Daxton reflected on how much he missed Google.

Oblivious to the thoughts circling round in the Ravenclaw's head, although if the professor were not being so casual right now he would have recalled certain previous observations AND a certain matter he needed to discuss with the boy then he would have been able to put two and two together, Airey found the card and pulled it out.
"Ah, Valentina Tereshkova. This is a bit of a rarity given the time period," he mused as he turned the card over in his hand. "The first woman in space. Got a couple of her back home already, so this one is yours." Giddy as a schoolboy, the astronomer handed it the small card to the boy. "Make sure not to crease the edges."
While the gum was over a century old, there was nothing to worry about. The wizarding community was good about enchantments to preserve food.

Sweet, so sweet. The sickly sweet fruity-but-not bubblegum flavour felt like it was somehow permeating all of Daxton's senses, threatening him with the warning signs of a headache, it was so unpleasant. He had been about to spit the wad of gum back into his hand when Airey Flamsteed made mention of the card.
The coveted, valuable card.
The Ravenclaw stretched up on his tiptoes to try and lean in and peer at the picture on the card - without getting too close - to see if there was anything particularly special about it. But no, it was just a card. But a valuable card nonetheless. And Daxton had come across Valentina Tereshkova before in his reading, mostly when he had been back at home, when he had devoted a lot of his free time to the independent study of non-magical history and science, before the discovery of magic had all but taken over and dictated. That was not to say he did not still enjoy learning about those things, but the new, exciting topic of magic had been impossible to ignore, even for a second. As it happened, Daxton was struck at that moment by a sudden thought, something he had been meaning to ask Airey Flamsteed, as he seemed like the most knowledgeable (and accessible) person on the subject.
For now, though, he simply took the card that was handed over, and studied it closely. Not creasing the edges - that would no doubt lower its value. The almost stern face of Valentina Tereshkova looked back at him, completely frozen and unmoving, of course, a reminder of how different things were in the normal world, even now. After a long moment of consideration, and inspecting not only the contents of the card but the general quality of it as well, Daxton withdrew his notebook from his pocket and carefully placed the card inside, between two so far unused pages. Nothing so much as a thank you was offered to Airey Flamsteed; Daxton was notoriously terrible at remembering pointless things such as manners.
But what he did do, after putting the notebook back in his pocket, was to reach into the other for a piece of string. There was no end to the random things one could find around Hogwarts, littered about the floor, as long as you paid attention. Daxton had a habit of picking up everything, because he never knew when it might come in handy. And this string, along with the gum he now spat into his free hand, would be perfect for fishing out coins from the fountain. He approached it again, and stared down into the water, unsure as to whether Airey Flamsteed would stay and watch, or carry on with that strange pet rock of his.
... Or maybe, Daxton realised with a sudden clarity that made him internally facepalm, maybe the man would expect some sort of payment. Some of the fountain coins, in return for the gum and the card. Daxton looked over his shoulder at him now, suddenly very suspicious.
He did not want to give him coins, and he certainly would not be returning the card either.

There was no real obligation to take the card, and the astronomer knew full well that Mr. Prince would have no problem signaling any distaste of it, but he couldn't really say that he was surprised when the boy DID accept. The boy gave of an aura of Slytherin ambition, after all.
"You're quite welcome," Airey said, obviously filling in the void of conversation that the Ravenclaw had left out of his own accord. His silence, while sad for various reasons, was not uncomfortable to the man. He was perfectly capable of keeping conversation with silent sorts. Just ask Pebbles sometime about that, if you could get an answer out of her that is.
"Funny how people think throwing coins into a fountain can grant wishes and make dreams come true," he mused as he watched the young man prepare for his pseudo fishing excursion. "About as efficient as wishing on stars, wouldn't you agree?" Stars that, in all likeliness, were already gone. "But, seeing as those coins there won't be put to any real value, it seems only appropriate that they be put to good use, wouldn't you agree?"
And he had the perfect suggestion.
Well, suggestion was a bit too generous a word.
