Caleb didn't know why prefects didn't have their own carriages. It was their job to make sure everyone got off the train, and then they had to fight people to get a carriage of their own - how unfair was that?! Last to leave and last to get a carriage. Total nonsense, especially during his last year.

However, Caleb saw that his friend Adi had gotten a carriage nearby, and since he hadn't gotten a chance to show Adi his awesome new tat on the train, he figured now was a good time. Never mind the fact that he was hanging out with...some other dude, and that Tia girl that Caleb had paired up with in class once. There was plenty of room for him!

"Prefects SERIOUSLY need their own carriages. This whole fighting for a seat business is for the birds," he grumbled. Had he REALLY just used that expression? Huh. That was weird. It just kind of CAME OUT. He was slowly turning into his dad more and more each day...it was kind of scary.

"Hullooo, how's it going?" he asked, throwing a grin at Hufflepuff boy and Tia-who-he-was-pretty-sure-was-a-Ravenclaw.

He thought he needed to make that clear. Did he have a nice summer? He shrugged and replied, "Yeah it was alright I guess. Nothing too exciting besides going to Diagon Alley."

Oh! This boy didn't even know how he got sorted?! Kate had lots to say on that! "Well, they sit you on this stool at the feast, and they put this brown hat on top of your head. They call it the Sorting Hat. The hat can see inside your mind and tell what your greatest qualities are. It then calls out a house, and that's the group you'll be associated while you're at Hogwarts," she said. Kate was getting excited just thinking about it. "I remember my sorting. I was so nervous, but it all worked out for the best. I'm in Ravenclaw."

Then there was the speech. "Oh, he just introduces the professors and tells us if there are any new ones," she said. "Then he tells us any announcements we have to know, then after that, we can eat." So, yeah. They were about to have a really big meal. "Oh, and sometimes the house ghosts visit the feast." Timmy had yelled out her name a few minutes ago, but Kate had never told him herself, so she could totally understand why he was asking. "I'm Kate Addison," she said.

Kate reached into her pocket and pulled out a handful of candy for Timmy. "I have about six or seven different kinds," she said. "Take your pick." Surely there was bound to be something in there Timmy liked. The conversation seemed to be between Colt and Timmy right now, so Kate just looked back and forth between both of them, noting how Colt had come from Durmstrang. Ohh, those boys were supposedly really cool!

Oh how she enjoyed the fact she didn’t have to deal with her trunk now that she’d arrived at the train station in Hogsmeade. All Brooklyn had carried off the train with her was her bag containing her book and Tywin. It wasn’t that she didn’t trust the cat to get off the train by himself, she just knew it would be easier getting him on the carriage if she was carrying him. Especially since Tywin didn’t seem quite as, well, not bothered by the thestrals pulling said carriages as she was, even though she couldn’t see them. She didn’t particularly want to see them, really.

Benny had made it through the train ride without dealing with familiar faces after leaving Angel and that had been fine with him. Adi likely had plenty of other stuff to do as prefect and he wasn't sure how AJ was going to take him breaking up with her sister. But now they had reached the station in Hogsmeade and they were onto the castle once one boarded one fo the carriages. He couldn't exactly hide out on his own unless he ventured up to the school on foot and would likely show up late and in trouble.

Oh to be in dragon form and fly up to Hogwarts.

He spotted Adi in a carriage already but it was full with Henric, Caleb and a girl. So he was on his own at the moment. Wandering over to one of the potentially free ones and found Brooklyn in one by herself. Pausing in thought, Benny figured the Slytherin girl might be one of the lesser evils and moved to board the carriage. "Hey..." he greeted quietly out of simple politeness, taking a seat opposite her with Conrad still perched on his shoulder. Though his attention was outward from either of them and the thestrals he noticed.

Colt nodded along with the girls explanation of the sorting hat. So he got the gist of the story that the sorting hat picks the best quality that suits you. He was curious about this..."What qualities do Slytherins have?" He found that a popular house. He heard she was in Ravenclaw and he couldn't help but ask..."What qualities do Ravenclaws have?" Man he was becoming such a newb but she seemed like the girl that didn't care.

He heard about the Headmaster and it seemed legit. He seemed to be a cool person and he will have to meet him one day in the near future. Ah now onto the name, he grinned and nodded, "Nice to meet ya Kate. " He noticed she had a big bag of candy and that looked delicious but he was cautious. "Ermm which candies do you got there?" They didn't look like normal candy he was used to.

The time to herself hadn’t seemed to last, as before long Brooklyn heard someone approaching her carriage. Not to mention they’d climbed up to sit opposite her, conveniently hiding the invisible thestrals from her, or more accurately from Tywin. Her cat was currently on her lap, being petted merely to keep him calm, but she’d looked up at the soft greeting. It was Benny. Adi’s friend, except as fr as she was concerned, he was the lesser of two evils. At least, he didn’t seem apt to try and get her to hug him, and he’d proved useful back when the swamp had grown. She wondered if he remembered that, but she wasn’t planning on asking. There wasn’t any reason to, and she didn’t ask questions regularly anyhow. She just expected answers, or at least respect. He’d shown that, at least.

The owl on his shoulder got a brief glance, as if she was deciding if it was apt to do anything, before her blue eyes had gone back to the older boy. “Hi,” she said briefly. He hadn’t said anything else, so she wasn’t going to. Besides, the very fact she’d said anything should have told him he was allowed to stay. According to her, anyway. He was hardly paying attention to her in the first place, so she still nearly had the carriage to herself. If it stayed this way.

Hady didn't mind the silence normally unless it was that awkward uncomfortable I have no clue what to say to you sorta silence. Was this that kind? Nah probably not. She didn't have much time to consider it when the other girl spoke up again.

A fifth year, her, no. Was she a fifth year? Most likely since she'd asked specifically about being one. "No. No I'm a forth year now," she replied with a semi shake of her head. Close enough right? "I'm Hady, are you a transfer this term?"

What was this? Larissa looked around at the carriages. So she had to get in one of them? This was all so new to her. She wasn't use to the whole being at school thing. Her thing was just being with her mother and her mother homeschooling her. She was pretty sure that she had made a couple of friends. She didn't know them all that well yet but she had a feeling that they would let her sit with them or maybe someone even a stranger would let her sit with them. The thing was everyone here was a stranger to her and she didn't do well with people she doesn't know. Larissa just stood there looking around at the carriages.

Shifting a little bit to be able to face Candice more Hady nodded slightly. "Nice to meet you Candice. What made you leave and then return, if you don't mind my asking that is." She was curious yes but she wouldn't pry. If the older girl wanted to tell her that was fine by her and if not then that was alright too.

The Hufflepuff stared at the paper, something occurring to him for the first time. "Maybe mom was wrong. There is NO WAY you came from Slytherin parents... unless they were the friendly type like Zhenya or Hady.'' Henric wanted the paper? "Sure.'' Adi handed it over.

Uh oh.

The dreaded question

His bespectacled brown eyes suddenly lost all the laughter and brightness they usually had as he shifted them away from Henric. Yes, his mom knew what happened to them and so did Adi. Hadn't he given his friend enough news for the day? But half of him wanted to tell everything he knew. ''It's only the start of the term. Do you want Henric to spend his first night back at Hogwarts all mopey?'' he asked himself. "He deserves to know the truth. Those two may be his real parents,'' said another part of him.

He stared out of the window then simply shook his head. He didn't have the guts to say a word. He loathed lying but he wasn't sure how Henric would handle the news. No, now wasn't the time. He just wanted his friend to stay happy. Some other time he would tell Henric... after he confirmed what his mom had told him. It was possible she had gotten the Montgomerys' mixed up with some others.

After Adi broke the news to Henric and was staring out of the carriage again, he saw out of the corner of his eyes, a figure enter the carriage. He instantly recognised his friend and his face broke into a grin. "Hey, Tia!'' Ohh, questions! "Summer was great! Probably the most awesome one yet. And you can bet I am all set for another year!'' He was BEYOND excited. "How are YOU? What about those OWLs?'' Did she and Henric know each other? It sure didn't seem like it. "Tia, this is Henric, Hufflepuff fifth year. Henny, this is TiaMarie, six year Ravenclaw.'' Wheee! Introductions were out of the way now and maybe Henric would be a little distracted in chatting with Tia.

Ohh, looky! CALEB!

Adi laughed. "Don't you know it! Either two carriages or one giant one for all eight of us.'' Hey, he and Caleb could dream, yeah? So, how's it going, Caleb? Did you get that ink done? Sometimes he did wonder if his Snake friend had gone through with it but he had a shrewd suspicion that Caleb had.

Tia had this strange feeling she had walked in on something intense and was half tempted to leave and find a new carriage but before she had a chance to do so, the other guy said hi. So apparently they were okay with company. "Hi."

Before she had a chance to find out the guys name though they had someone else joining them and claiming the fourth seat. Some guy she knew from pairing with in a class once and it seemed his attitude hadn't changed one bit. "Caleb." She greeted in a rather monotonous voice. "The only reason why prefects need the own carriages is so we lowly students wouldn't have to listen to that" It was as if they thought they were better; they already had their own compartment on the train; wasn't that enough? "Maybe they should just give you each your own classes too, so you don't have to learn with us either." Because clearly they were better.

At least ONE prefect she was in the compartment with was pleasant. Pleasant enough to realize she didn't even know the other guy in the compartment and introduced them. Aw, he remembered her year and house; Adi was great, really. Why couldn't everyone be like him? "I'm good and definitely feeling WAY more relaxed now that OWL year is done though I'm a bit nervous for the more advanced classes but at least I don't have any standardized exams this year so that's good. I'm also kind of wondering about the new professors, since we're getting a few new ones, I think?" She paused, "Nice to meet you Henric." She then heard Adi ask Caleb about ink and tilted her head curiously to see what the Slytherin's response would be. She had been in that shop too and she wondered vaguely where that inquisitive first year was right now. He'd probably lean over the boat and fall in, given his curious nature.

Cinna was already in a carriage. Wasn't this thing supposed to be moving? Or did thing have to have more than one person in it to get moving. Is that what it was? She had never ridden it alone before. The seven year looked around. Someone get in there. She was hungry!

There was a girl standing alone. Ah. "Hey there, girl get in. I need this thing to go." Not trying to be rude or anything. Who knew maybe she was helping out the girl? Great first impression Bayless.

He had noticed that she had looked up from the greeting. That and the fact she didn't readily react negatively was a good sign. Benny could use good signs. Perhaps she remembered him in the whole swamp issue where she had used him as a way to avoid the dirty water. Feeling the slightly harder grip on his shoulder, the Gryffindor reached a hand up to give a comforting scratch to Conrad who had apparently noticed the cat on the younger girl's lap. "Easy boy...the cat's not bothering you."

Which was certainly a good thing. The last thing he needed was a flighty familiar making his escape. Ah...and there was the return greeting. Ben would take that as a plus. As was the fact that she stopped at the greeting without saying anything more, even as he chanced a better look at her. Perhaps he wasn't the only one that was fine with a simple quiet carriage ride up to the castle.

Caleb grinned and nodded. "Yup, I did," he told him, pulling his robe sleeve over his forearm to reveal the knotted rope tattoo he'd gotten on his forearm. He hadn't told his parents yet - he'd resorted to basically wearing long sleeves the rest of the summer as he thought about how he would exactly break the news to him. "I couldn't believe how much it itched when it was healing, though! It didn't hurt too bad getting it done, though...the lines were the worst part, shading wasn't too bad," he grumbled with a shrug. Either way you sliced it, you were digging a NEEDLE in your arm, it was going to HURT.

"How's the reaper healing up?" he asked with a smile. It still blew his mind that Adi had a tattoo.

Ouch. Why was it that whenever Caleb encountered this particular Ravenclaw she was always so SNARKY? This was why people didn't like Ravenclaws. Ugh. Wrinkling his eyebrows and crossing his arms, he leaned back and then smiled, not wanting to start a whole THING when they were supposed to be enjoying their last welcoming feast EVER. "I was only joking. And being in a class full of fellow prefects sounds awful - one of us would end up Bat Bogey Hexing someone, total chaos" he joked with another grin. That was kind of a joke - also kind of realistic.

Come on, Ravvie girl. Lighten UP! Caleb wasn't entirely sure where this whole devil-may-care attitude he had going on came from...but he liked it. Anything over the extreme stress and anxiety he'd experienced during his OWL year...

Henric waited for Adi to tell him something about these two people mentioned in this note. But Adi seemed reluctant to make any eye contact with him when he asked him if they were still alive. It was as if Adi was not telling him the part that he needed to know.He couldn't question him any further however, because Tia was joining them in their carriage ride to Hogwarts. Henric decided it wouldn't be the right time to talk about this.Besides, he didn't want anyone else to know about his past so it was best to let the matter rest for now. He would talk to Adi again back in their commonroom where it was more private for them to discuss.

Another older student came to join them, a new Slytherin prefect named Caleb. Henric didn't know him well but he seemed to be quite a blatant bloke. Oh...he spotted a new tattoo too. That was impressive! Tia wasn't impressed by his disgruntlement though and was determined to tell off the mate. Henric remained quiet as he observed their little squabble,he scooted a little so the new Slytherin mate could sit beside him in the carriage as well. Oh right, Adi had a new tattoo too which he had yet to see.

Henric mind wandered elsewhere while they began interacting with each other. His mind was still preoccupied with the sudden turn of events as he stared blankly at the note in his hands. He jolted back up into attention again when Adi introduced him to Tia. He tried his best to muster up a smile towards the Ravenclaw,"Nice to meet you too,Tia...hope you had a good summer?"

Hady gave a small grin shifting a little bit to see Candice a bit better. Ah she had to switch schools because of a move and things. She could really understand that. It might actually happen to her soon, depending on where she moved over the holidays. "Oh I see. Are you happy to returning to Hogwarts or did you want to stay at the other school?"

At the mention of Acromantula Hady visibly cringed. Just a little bit. If Candice was paying very close attention she would have been able to notice. "Yeah, uh a few people were capture and kept in the forest they had to rescued. A lot of people aren't returning this term because of that," she muttered quietly in reply. She couldn't blame them honestly for she herself had almost not returned either.

Woot!

Caleb had gotten his tattoo! "It looks awesome!'' Adi grinned slyly. "Worked up the courage to tell your parents? What about Sophie? Does she know?'' They were siblings, after all and probably close. ''The shading was the best part, I think, too but yeah. The itching... I was wondering if I was going to have to tie my hands behind my back or something.'' Adi might have sneaked a scratch here and there

"It's healed fully, no infection or anything, thank Merlin. I followed that woman's instructions to a T to take care of the healing.'' Anything that made him sick or less bouncy was a big no -no.

Adi STARED at his Claw friend. He had never encountered a sassy Tia though he had heard others bare the brunt of it before. He decided to play along with it for a while. "I know right? I mean, they already gave us our own compartment on the Train. You think it would be too much if we ask for our own lessons and carriages?" Hehe. As if Adi would want such a thing! He didn't even spend much time in the Prefects' compartment anyway. "Awh, come on, Tia! Caleb was just kidding around and so was I just now. Also, he's right about the hexing. He would be the first one to get hexed.'' LOL.

Hady ended up laughing quietly at Candice's reaction to her question. Her other school had been boring. Well that was definitely one thing that Hogwarts wasn't. Every term had been something different but none of them had ever been boring. "Well I'm certain you won't be bored here", Hady told her adding a second later, "But I'm sure you already know that."

Had she been one of the captured? Is that what the older girl was asking her? No she hadn't. "No, I wasn't but I knew a few of those that had been. I did get attacked though by the smaller spiders. That wasn't very pleasant at all." Hady glanced around a moment in discomfort not exactly liking the topic of discussion right then.

"Slytherins are known as being cunning and ambitious," Kate said, not missing a beat. "Most of the Slytherins I know are really nice, though. They're not really mean about it. They just like to be first and best is all." She couldn't imagine people like Hady being mean to other people. "Ravenclaws? Well, we're known for thinking things through. We supposedly have a lot of knowledge and logic. Some people think that means we spend all our time in the library and do school work constantly, but that's not true. I don't know anybody that does that."

"It's nice to meet you, too," she added. Then the focus turned to her candy, which prompted Kate to look down into the palm of her hand. "Well, there's chocolate frogs, Jelly Slugs, and Bertie Bott's." She looked back up again. "Have you ever had any of those?" Kate couldn't be sure, but she seemed hesitant for some reason. Maybe it was that whole 'never take candy from a stranger' thing her mom always told her.

Colt was impressed with Kate's knowledge of the houses. So the Slytherins sounded like his kind of house. He honestly did like to be the first and the best. He was known to be cunning and loved to break the rules and tried to get away with things. Colt knew his goals and stuck to them which isn't a bad thing. He heard the Ravenclaw house traits and their stereotypes and he snorted. "Well yeah because having a lot of knowledge usually refers to you being a nerd." he shrugged teasing just a little bit. "I usually have things for nerds though. They can be useful in tight situations." Just like his best mate back home.

He scrunched his eyebrows in confusion at the names of the candies. Man he should have visited Honeydukes before he came here. He didn't know about any of the candies. "No I have not actually.." he said observing them in her hands. "Which one is the safest to eat first?"
