Ravenclaw Ravenclaw House Table

banner by Govoni

The Eagles sit under a beautiful navy and bronze banner representing their house. Their solid, shiny wooden table is nicely polished with all the place settings perfectly set. The food will arrive after the Headmaster's traditional feast speech. To all Ravenclaws, both new and old: enjoy the feast!

Now she felt kind of honored that she had been floated through. She wanted to talk to her but she wasn't sure what to say, her natural shyness creeping back in. "Thank you Grey Lady" she said with a smile, even though she hadn't really contributed to winning points all that much. "We couldn't have done it without you though!" Oh no! She had just embarrassed herself, right?
On her way to her destination Helena had accidently floated through some unsuspecting students where one of them included Kitty. The reactions were what was going to keep her going during the long summer turning her pale grey eyes to young Kitty Valentine she couldn't help but blush modestly. "Thank you dear but that's really not necessary. You guys did all the work to score points and grades I just provided some nudges when you needed them and encouraging support."

Pointing to the nail polish bottle Helena asked curiously "Is that black nail polish? Do you think I'd look pretty with black nails?" She wanted to charm a certain lion.

Ohh...that house cup mention again. Kate knew she shouldn't even reply to that, because what had she done to contribute? Not much. At least the others had done a good job! "Yeah, they did a really awesome job, didn't they?!" she replied. First would have been better, but at least they weren't last again.
Had she floated through Kate too? Helena supposed so as she shifted her grey gaze to the rising fourth year blond who was visibly shivering. "Sorry about that Kate dear. I didn't mean to make you shiver." They did an awesome job? Confused Helena raised a brow "What do you mean by 'they'? I'm certain you had as big a hand in us finishing second in house point race as anyone in the house Kate. I've seen you study hard in the common room for classes. Professor reward effort."

Her thanking of the Grey Lady was awfully precious, too, and Soph chuckled, adding her own, "Thanks, Miss Helena." No matter how much the Grey Lady had it out for Sophie Brown, she was going to be nice on their VERY LAST NIGHT TOGETHER, all right?
Did she hear right? Helena must have mistaken. Sophie Brown couldn't have thanked her? Not after 6 years off being at odds with her? It seemed that the impossible had happened. That was why Helena held off on commenting on the girl's posture which still was lacking in her opinion.

Shooting Sophie a rare smile Helena said "Why thank you Sophie. I'm proud of how you've lead the eagles this year. I've now finally understood what your HoH Kitridge and Headmaster Botros saw in you when they first sent you that prefect badge. You're an example for all eagles."

WHY OH WHY WAS THIS HAPPENING. WHY OH WHY WERE THEY BEING TORN APART SO SOON AFTER THIS HAPPENED?!

Goodbye, all other females of interest. This twelve -- almost thirteen, in August, pls -- year old was TAKEN. Unofficially, because Miss Sophie Brown still had to keep up appearances with her ninny of a beard. Until Rooney was old enough for her. Until he was a MAN and had some hair on his chin or upper lip.

Until then, he took seat at the very end of the table to MOPE.
HEARTBROKEN SECOND YEAR OVER HERE. PLS.
The sadness emanating from one eagle by the name of Rooney Bronwyn at the end of the table was hard not to miss and react to. The feast was supposed to be a happy event not a night for self-pity and introspection. Leaving her place Helena floated down the length of the table and straight through Rooney and back before she stopped to hover in front of him pale grey eyes boring into the young man. "Cheer up Rooney! We can't have tears at the feast! This is supposed to be a cheerful occasion with summer break just hours away. Wipe away your tears and enjoy the feast like a proper knight of the eagles." Her mother would shake her head if she was here.

"Sorry," she said. "Didn't mean to kick you." Just in case he assumed it was on purpose.

Pause... "Are you okay?" she asked quietly, since he was, you know... under the table. "Do you... wanna join us?" It looked awful lonely down there. He didn't have to sit with her, but she was offering.
He'd need to come up now right? He couldn't stay down here anymore.

Sigh.

"Was bound to happen," well, not really, but by his luck he'd managed to lie right where everyone would decide to sit. At her next question, Benzi looked sharply at her face to see if she was somehow mocking him. It's been a few months, but this was probably the most they'd ever talked since it all happened.

It was actually kind of nice. "I reckon it's time isn't it?" he nodded, then twisted and crawled over to the space between Evie and Sophie's chairs. He grasped a hold of each leg and with great effort pushed them outwards to give him enough space to climb out.

All that training paid off. Moving two seventh year girls out of the way like that was no small feat. He dusted off his clothes and sat down... on Evie's other side. Hayley wasn't here yet, and hopefully she'd sit with Noel. Those two needed to sort things out anyways. "Hey everyone," he greeted the small crowd of people that had gathered next to Sophie Brown with a smile. Apparently he'd snapped out of his earlier mood.

Guess all it took was a kick to the shoulder.

"Grey Lady!" his favourite History of Magic teacher. "I've been meaning to stop by. Thank you for being the best house ghost, and for making sure I didn't fail my History NEWT. I'm pretty sure I'm hovering on an almost E, so thanks!"

Great family, the Guidrys were, and Soph only managed a smile in greeting before the younger girl went into a very, very touching... a too touching spiel.

The tears were real, and the more Janelle spoke, the more the moisture pooled in the Head Girl's eyes, especially as the girl handed a gift over. It didn't matter what the gift was - there were too many kind words, way too sweet of sentiments, she... couldn't. Ugh.

"C'mere," Soph sniffled, kicking her legs over the bench and standing properly to wrap up Janelle in the biggest, most snug bear hug she could give to the Ravenclaw. She laughed a little suddenly, mostly out of the absurdity that was her own crying and pathetic demeanor, and sniffled again, not breaking the hug as she spoke quietly to her, "You've been a great friend, Janelle. S'been... s'been the best getting to know you. You're so incredibly bright, so compassionate, so wonderful -" another sniffle, "- you're gonna do such great things, I know it."

Finally pulling away from the hug, Soph used her robe sleeve to wipe the tears from her face and gave her friend a sincere, wibbly smile. "Keep in touch, 'kay? Y'can owl me any time - I'll visit on Hogsmeade weekends, too, so if y'ever... need anything at all, lemme know, 'kay?" She meant it, too.

Oh oh. Janelle was only holding onto her pretend happiness because she was trying not to directly think of everyone leaving. Now she had made the Head Girl cry. That wasn't her intention and yet it happened. The problem was, if Sophie Brown started to cry, Janelle would almost certainly follow. She wasn't one to cry easily......usually. Today was different though. Janelle's emotions were hiding somewhere just beneath the surface and it wouldn't take much to set them off. So when Janelle saw tears in Sophie's eyes and she hugged her, it was on.

Eyes filling with tears, Janelle looked at Sophie Brown. "Thank you. That's very nice of you to say." When her role model said that she could owl her anytime, Janelle brightened. "You mean it? I will, you know, to see how you are doing. And I promise to work hard because Ravenclaw is coming out on top in the points race. We almost did it this time." Knowing that the Head Girl had lots of other people to say goodbye to, Janelle let her go. "I'm not really good with goodbyes, so I'll say.........until we meet again."

Also, yes...Reagan DID have several flower crowns looped around her forearm. One for Sophie, one for Professor York...among a few others...but little Roo clearly needed her. Gifting them could wait.
He was in the middle of thinking intensely about how he was going to tell Miss Sophie Brown exactly what she meant to him before the feast was over, when a hand was placed on his arm and a bottom was placed on the seat beside him. Roo turned to look and managed a smile, because he couldn't possibly frown in the presence of the happiest person to ever exist. "Miss Reagan," he leant his head against her arm warmly. "I'll miss you." Maybe even more than he would miss Miss Sophie Brown, because at least Miss Reagan UNDERSTOOD how he felt about the Head Girl.

She got it.

She had given him her blessing when she gave him that scrapbook, right? That was her blessing for him to really ask Miss Sophie Brown to marry him when he was an adult?

He really was going to miss Miss Reagan.

Looking from Reagan along the table, Rooney raised a hand to wave lightly at David and gave him a little smile too. He hadn't done anything wrong, in fact he had done everything right. He hadn't questioned the hard feelings between Blaise and Roo, and he'd not done anything to deserve any less than a smile. So that was what he got. Next year, he'd probably have to be in on planning his wedding to Miss Sophie Brown though. "Hi David! Are you excited for food..?" He was a boy. Boys liked food.

Normal boys, anyway.

Roo wasn't normal.

.................................................. .......................

Um.

???

Okay???

It wasn't the floating through that had startled the second year, but the whole charade of whatever the Grey Lady was getting at. Rooney wanted to say exactly what he thought about this entire thing, but bit his lip. It was only last September that he still had fluttery feelings about the ghost of his house, but now he was well and truly over them. He sat up from his place at Reagan's side and folded his arms in protest. "I'm not crying." If she could see he was sad, then she should have been able to tell that he wasn't crying. His cheeks were dry. He was just moping. Big difference.

Also... did she just insinuate that he wasn't properly an eagle?

That was...

Well, he knew he would spend the next fifty years of his life in turmoil because of that one statement. Everything he stood for was to be a proper Ravenclaw.

But maybe he didn't want to be a knight.

Maybe he wanted to be Sophie's King.

Feast. While others were exceedingly glad to go home, Thornton was a little less than enthused. Instead of a summer of carefree fun, going home meant coming to terms with a reality that had had him down since Christmas. The only bright spot of the year, really, had been Paige and, craning his next, he tried to spot her. He knew, though, that she had gifts for the seventh years to deliver and would spend a fair bit of time with her house, first. And he wouldn't begrudge her that.

And so he settled in at the Ravenclaw table with a sigh, trying not to eavesdrop on the seventh years, and tracing his finger along the woodgrain of the table top. He assumed his other friends were off with their people, though maybe Dima... Thornton looked up, but didn't easily spot his friend. Right.

So much for cheer. He looked up, though, watching the speech, wondering where the Headmaster's cheer had gone.

Looked like it had been a long term for everyone.

THERE WAS REAGAN! Paul scurried over towards the Ravenclaw table QUICKLY because efihergiuerghi he needed to head back to his table! He found the seventh year and smiled as he extended the flower towards her.

"Here you go, Reagan. It was a pleasure teaching you this year, and collecting seaweeds from the lake was always exceptionally fun--" he chuckled. "I know that whatever you choose to do--which, well I HOPE it's Herbology--you will be wonderful in doing." He nodded at her and before he could get swept up in his immense emotions, he was practically jogging for the staff table, basket still in tow, a few flowers falling out as he did so.

Well then.

So much for cheer. He looked up, though, watching the speech, wondering where the Headmaster's cheer had gone.

Looked like it had been a long term for everyone.
The Gryffindor stopped as the Headmaster began to speak. He was halfway down the Ravenclaw table, standing totally still and paying attention to every word. He... was a little underwhelmed, it was not a very Botros speech, the warmth that he usually carried, it wasn't there. Damien didn't understand it and he didn't like it, made him worry. Glancing to the side, Damien saw just the young dude he'd been looking for. "Thornton, hey man. You ever wonder why no one's ever just whelmed? Overwhelmed, underwhelmed, but never whelmed?" He asked, greeting the young man with a small, amused smile. He'd been wanting to speak to him, had a gift for him, so to speak. The real wonder was if Thornton would like it.

Damien had long ago realized and given up on the fact that he had more friends in Ravenclaw than he did any other house. He wondered what that said about him as a person? Zander had said he'd ought to be in Ravenclaw when he'd interviewed him and the words had stuck to him a bit. Maybe he'd ask Evie about it, she was good at destroying his ego when it got too big.

Evie was one of the big reasons he'd made his way over to the Ravenclaw table, Damien wasn't gonna let the feast finish before coming to see her, his last night wouldn't be complete otherwise. He spotted her quickly, surprisingly sitting beside one Benzi Rider with a... Very busy Head Girl nearby. Which was fitting, given her boyfriend was getting the same treatment at the Gryffindor Table. It was a shame he hadn't gotten to know her more.

Standing behind the brunette, Damien tapped on Evie's shoulder. "Shacklebolt." He said, his voice light and warm. Suddenly he... Felt a bit out of place... Self-conscious in a way he'd never been.

He blamed the finality in the air, but he knew the real reason.

"Alright there, Benzi?" Damien said, nodding to the Prefect. If Evie as okay with him, then Damien was too, it was that simple. 'sides, he was a good guy.. Damien could feel it.

He really was going to miss Miss Reagan.

Oh, her precious cinnamon roll.

Leaning in further to properly snug the younger boy, Reagan dropped a chaste kiss to his blonde hair. It was a returned one, really...since it had been not so long ago when Rooney had given her that very adorable cheek peck during their lunch!date. She loved him, as only Reagan could: wholeheartedly and without conditions.

"I expect loads of letters, just so you know...and you should expect several in return." Her voice was light as she said this, eyes gleaming with her own happiness. She could understand the distraught feelings, even if she didn't share them. "...and gifts! I'm going abroad." So, that meant lots of exotic flowers, treats, and totems.

Rea squished him again, pulling away slightly.

There was nothing to be done about it, however.

...but ever gracious and gentle, Reagan smiled warmly at the spectral woman; grateful she'd gotten to learn from someone so ingrained into the Hogwarts fabric. Even if it had only been one term. "It was lovely seeing you again this year, Professor Helena. Your History lectures were inspired."

She was simply chalked full of compliments. Mhm!

Well then.

OH. PROFESSOR MYERS. Her foraging!buddy!

Momentarily adjusting her flower crown, the Ravenclaw BEAMED at the older man. Did he see her flower crown?! Did he like it?! The flowers had symbolic meaning, you know? She'd been very attentive and astute in putting it together.

"Thank you, Pa-...Professor Myers!" She had to remind herself to be more formal in this Great Hall setting...but he'd always be Patient Paul to her.

...and yes, Herbology and Flora studies would commence this summer, actually. No time like the present, as they say...and why wait, really? She was just so excited about the possible content. Would she make a discovery?! Find new herbs to work with? New flowers?

.

.

...and the food. After the Headmaster's speech, which did warrant some curious looks...as Reagan had never known the man to stumble over his words, she'd turned up her nose delicately at the NON-vegan display; reaching for the bag she'd brought along with her. In the next moment, Rea was removing containers, placing them carefully around her plate. This was not her first time dealing with this situation.

...and THEN, she'd go write her memory book entry...and distribute gifts. It was a PLAN!

Sophie Brown was quite the legend at Hogwarts. Evie knew that before, but this time she felt no envy towards her friend. She was happy for her, but... having so many people look up to you had to be pretty intense. Too much pressure.

Snuggling with Eves nice and warmly, Soph smiled at the cheek kiss and nuzzled against her best friend. Public displays of affection were okay when it was besties cuddling, right? 'cause Sophie Brown didn't care and she was gonna be as affectionate with her dormmate as she wanted to be. It was their LAST NIGHT EVER TOGETHER AT HOGWARTS. There were loads of exceptions to rules on a night like this.

She offered a shrug at Eves' question, though, and murmured softly, "Dunno. S'hard." She sighed in exasperation. "It'll be nice to be going to the same uni as you, so m'not gonna have to miss you, but... s'like... when am I gonna see everyone else, y'know? We're leaving so much behind, which is... good and bad. Some of it is good to leave behind, but..." There was another shrug, then Soph turned her big chestnut eyes up to look at the Head Babe, "How are you?" Seemed to be taking it pretty well, all things considering. Not an ounce of sadness that Soph could detect, but maybe that was attributed to the distractions of Benzi and Damien joining them.

Eves had always been better at concealing and not feeling anyway.

He pushed his glasses up his nose a little bit as he admired the Head Girl. She had probably aced all her NEWTs, too. Wow. Such a student. He had goals now to accomplish per the Head Girl's example.

Ohhhh sweet little Davie, always warming the cockles of Sophie Brown's heart. Was the Head Girl blushing? You bet. His sentiments were very sweet and appreciated, although... his bit about the points made her laugh and shake her head. "Y'say that now, but I bet you'll earn even more points than me in all seven of your years here. You've got a good head on your shoulders, Davie. She smiled genuinely and added sincerely, "Thanks, though." For all his kind words and generally for being a good kid. His mum must've been awfully proud of how her son turned out.

Shooting Sophie a rare smile Helena said "Why thank you Sophie. I'm proud of how you've lead the eagles this year. I've now finally understood what your HoH Kitridge and Headmaster Botros saw in you when they first sent you that prefect badge. You're an example for all eagles."

To be fair, Sophie Brown had never been snotty with the Grey Lady unless the ghost provoked her. All those snide comments about her posture and unladylike ways - frankly, the seventh year thought they were rude, and Soph had never been one to stand for someone sticking their nose in where it didn't belong, no matter WHO they were. Sure, the ghost was a legend and an authority figure, and maybe if the ghost was still judgmental and snobby after so many centuries Soph stood no chance at conveying to her just how stuck up she was, but she had always been determined to keep trying. Even... if she'd completely failed, which she had, but at least today the Grey Lady responded well to her attempt at being kind. AND she even got a smile.

This was one for the memory books.

Helena finally understood, though? The ghost's declaration very nearly made her laugh - it was like an insult wrapped up in a compliment, but Sophie bit her tongue and just smiiiiled pleasantly up at the house ghost. The encouragement she was expressing DID outweigh the jab, and since it wasn't any bit of a surprise that the Grey Lady was being snide with her anyway, the fact that she was getting any sort of kindness from the woman spoke volumes. "That's very... unexpected and nice of you to say, Miss Helena." Could she see how surprised she was? "Means a lot coming from you. M'glad y'could finally see the good in me after all this time, even with my unladylike ways. Thank you." Maybe the ghost DID have some redeeming qualities to her. Huh. Who would've thought.

Laughing softly through her tears, Soph nodded, "Of course I mean it. Any day, any time, all right?" As for the points, Soph only chuckled and wiped some more tears from her face. "I have no doubt - Ravenclaw's time is coming, 'specially with you leading the cavalry." Sniffle. "If y'ever need study tips or wanna borrow my 'xtensive notes for OWLs or NEWTs or anything at all - I'm your girl." She kept all of that nonsense filed away in her bag charmed with an undetectable extension charm, just in case she ever needed some brushing up on things. Didn't hurt to be prepared, right?

"Not that you'd need it," she went on, "'cause you're as brilliant as they come. Don't let exams stress y'out too much in the future, 'kay? Trust yourself, 'n trust that y'know the material - y'can only do so much studying, but confidence in yourself 'n your knowledge'll carry you to success." That was what she'd learned. It was one thing to engross oneself completely in studies to do a good job, and it was another thing to prioritize and make time for fun in the midst of hard work. The latter had worked best for Sophie Brown. Good for the health. Care less, play more - a beautiful life mantra.

Ugh, Janelle was trying to kill her, though. Fresh tears welled up in her eyes at the girl's last statement, and Soph swiped her sleeve across her face to mop up the fresh moisture. "S'not goodbye, yeah." Sniffle. "I'll see you again." With a bittersweet smile, she nodded and added, "You'll be great." In all things. In anything Janelle sought to accomplish.

The tawny owl tried not to let that distract him from his task at hand. He had a delivery to make, and so he beat his wings a little harder and searched out the girl person who his letter was meant for.

He swooped down lower, hooting softly to try and it gained him a few glances from the small humans, but not the one he was looking for. She had something coming from hers. But there she was!

"Hoot!"

His landing was less than perfect, knocking over a few goblets and cutlery, but he was on time. Furmy righted himself and held out the leg that held the letter for Sophie, large owl eyes intense on her.

He ignored the looks he was getting from other students unless the wanted to feed him treats.

For you, girl person.

SPOILER!!: letter!

To: Sophie Brown
From: Ira Banner

Sophie Brown,

Recently I have decided to take on an apprentice at Ollivanders, something no one has been worthy of in the past. I am aware that you are finishing school soon and will have more time to focus on important things. As you are an adequate candidate, I have decided to offer you the apprenticeship in question. This will not be simple busy work as with the internship and your holiday work with me, rather you should expect to work hard, learn quickly and we will soon see if you have the true knack for working with wands or if you're just like most of the rest of them out there who fancy themselves worthy of the title Wandmaker.

I expect a prompt reply.

Ira Banner

Botros was giving his speech - it was a little bit weird and made Sophie Brown squint, but hearing that ZANDER ADAIR was one of the top five students for those camps and would get an internship made her WOOP AND HOLLER. "THAT'S MY BOYFRIEND!" was her shout and cheer, and she threw him a BIG OL' GOOFY GRIN over at the Gryffindor table because SHE KNEW IT ALL ALONG. He was SO WORRIED and SO unsure of his future, but things were just FALLING INTO PLACE FOR HIM LEFT AND RIGHT. WOOP WOOP. Now he had this, and he had Flammy's connections, and-- gosh, Zander Adair. What a wonderful life he was living.

When the speech was over, Soph settled into her seat with a dazed sort of smile, proud of the Head Boy for all he'd done, and little Davie nearby got a BIG OL' THUMBS-UP, too. Good on him, the little man. Even BETTER than her most-earned points for Ravenclaw - he was getting SPECIAL RECOGNITION. Too cool, little Truebridge.

...But there was an owl. Swooping into the Great Hall, it caught Soph's attention just as she'd gone to pile potatoes onto her plate to devour, and... it was heading right toward her group at the Ravenclaw table, then... landed quite ungracefully in front of her, knocking over her goblet and staring at her with its beady eyes.

"For me?" Who in Merlin's name would send her mail? At this time? So late in the term? If they'd sent it any later, she wouldn't have even been at Hogwarts, so why was...? Why was it so important that she'd gotten it here? Hum. Curiously, Soph pulled her bag from the floor into her lap, fished around for owl treats, and offered them to the messenger in exchange for the letter, her brows furrowed in a mixture of confusion and... concentration as she immediately tore into the envelope, completely oblivious to the contents of her goblet that were still soaking the tabletop.

...Oh. Sweet. Merlin.

The moment she saw who the sender was, her eyes widened and she leaned toward the letter eagerly, unable to read the words quickly enough for her liking. IRA BANNER. APPRENTICE. OLLIVANDERS. NO ONE ELSE WORTHY. ADEQUATE CANDIDATE. OFFER. PROMPT REPLY.

"YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!" SHE EXPLODED UP ONTO HER FEET AND OUT INTO THE AISLE SHE WENT, JUMPING AROUND AND SHRILLY SQUEALING AND BEAMING LIKE SHE'D JUST WON A MILLION GALLEONS. "YES YES YES YES YEEEEEEEEEES FINALLY!!!!" SHE'D DONE IT. IRA BANNER WANTED HER. HE WANTED TO TRAIN HER TO BE HER WANDMAKER. SHE WAS GOING TO WORK AT OLLIVANDERS AND HER DREAM WAS ACTUALLY REALLY TRULY COMING TRUE!!!!!!!!!

There were tears blurring her vision - finally happy ones - but it didn't stop her from suddenly bolting toward the staff table, her cheeks alight with jovial color to accompany the smile that wasn't leaving her face any time soon.

Nothing to see here, kids.

Taking his notebook from the back of his trousers, Rooney opened up to a page and tore it out, passing it right into Miss Reagan's hand. "From the first time I ever saw you..." He mumbled, pointing out the "sunshine" annotation and the detailed drawing of her in conversation with someone else who hadn't made the page. "Thought you might like it.. If ever you have a.. if ever you feel like I do." It was so very nice that she had kissed him too, because it took his thoughts away from the stupid things happening in this big castle right now. The stupid Head Boy, the stupid Head Girl, the stupid relationship between them.

And he wasn't to get started on the stupid house ghost. He had a lot of feelings about everything at this present moment.

"...Abroad? Where??" Couldn't she take him? Would she take pictures of theatres and send them to him? Would she find inspiration for his character development? Oh, this was just so exciting for Miss Reaga--

"THAT'S MY BOYFRIEND!" He heard it. Rooney heard his heart break alongside the whole phrase called by Miss Sophie Brown. He was going to be sick. He was going to throw up all over the food that was about to -- nope, the food that was on the table. He bit his tongue, and his lip and the inside of his cheek and battled through this horrible time in his life. If that wasn't confirmation that he had lost his woman, then he didn't know what was. And he didn't want to know.

Until he did.

Until Miss -- wait, no. Until Sophie Brown opened her mouth again and let out that loud noise and continued it on. CONTINUED. He looked down at the table, pushed a plate of food away from him and sighed. "What kind of man proposes to a Queen in a letter when he's in the same room..?" The question was mainly to himself, but he was distracting anyone from the tears in his eyes.

He was lost.

He had lost.

Zander Adair had won.

Normal boys, anyway.

Roo wasn't normal.
Was it just Davie or did Rooney look... different than usual? He smiled back at him without giving it too much thought, because Davie didn't really tune into feelings or any of that junk. "I guess!" Yeah, the food here was good... but mostly he was looking forward to the Headmaster's speech and then the train ride home! "What about you? Got any big summer plans?"

Mission accomplished. The Head Girl was chuckling now. "I can only hope so," he replied honestly, the apples of his cheeks turning a bit pink at her praise. "Thanks. That means a lot. And you were one of the COOLEST seventh years here!" For reals, even though he only knew like four of them!

He waited for the said round of applause, and took a peek at his notes. "As you all know, we had different camps on our grounds this year. Students competed, some have won and others were not so lucky. Tonight we'd like to reward those who have had the best school spirit by participating fairly and brilliantly in those, uhhh," frown. "--camps." He cleared his throat and read out from his parchment. "First place is Ms. Hady Lynch, next comes our Head Boy Mr. Zander Adair, joined by Prefect Dot Wojack and Mr. Benjamin Atreyu next. Mr. David Truebridge is the fifth of top students this year, congratulations to everyone." He joined everyone in clapping for them before a moment of silence heavily fell on everyone...

.. including Botros...

.... uhhhhhhhhhhhhhh... "And so... there is..." he stammered, looking down at Cassie and wiping his forehead. "Yeah! There is a reward for all five, a tour of the Quidditch stadium at a match this coming season of their chosen team." Yes! Botros beamed at his students, a little relaxed he remembered that bit. "Mr. Zander Adair and Benjamin Atreyu will be offered an internship at the ministry this summer, too. It hasn't been established yet, so everyone should wait for uhm-- the uhhh---" What the heck?? He rubbed his eyes a couple times before a small sigh. "We contact them." There. All better. "We're all tired, I guess, so hang in there for tomorrow's ride home and bon appetit." Aaaand the feast has officially started.
Ah, there was the speech now! And the food would all follow, finally! Davie smiled up at the Botros, such a kindly grandfathery figure, and nodded along as he announced the winners of the term's camps. It made sense that a lot of their prefects would have won this honor, but... but HIM? He was the youngest participant listed and HE HAD WON SOMETHING?!?!?

David's mouth dropped open with surprise and genuine happiness, the blush on his cheeks spreading to his forehead now with the shock of it all. "I won something!" he announced to himself. "I won something! I get-- I get a tour?" Of a quidditch stadium?! Ehhhhhhh he didn't really care for quidditch, but he liked the thought of WINNING. Maybe he could swap his tour for one of the Ministry instead. "COOL," the first year continued talking to himself. "REAL cool!"

He was all smiles as he started loading up his plate of food. HE'D WON SOMETHING! Had Char heard that? He'd have to go talk to her after he ate. She'd probably like a Quidditch tour more than he would... STILL. LOOK AT THAT. Winnnnnnnnnning!

~ Rise and Rise Again, Until Lambs become Lions ~

It seemed that wandering was doing more for him than eating was. His stomach didn't want to cooperate with the food, but stretching his legs and hassling mingling with the students was doing him some good. After Gryffindor, his feet steered him towards the Ravenclaw table. There were two things he needed to deliver, sooner rather than later.

Upon arriving, he found a rather glum looking Rooney with a discarded plate. With a frown, Sabel moved over and nudged the kid gently. "Good job in the dueling club, Bronwyn. I'm sure you'll be a force to be reckoned with. Just keep practicing."

There was a Truebridge that caught his eye across the table, and Sabel hesitated a moment before letting out a breath. Moving about to the kid, Sabel casually reached over his shoulder and snagged a small bun. The motion allowed him to lean in close enough to whisper confidentially in his ear so that no one else could hear. "If you're still curious about that memory, talk to Sander." Pulling back, he gave the kid an elbow bump. "Congratulations on reining victorious."

Now, where were......AH HA. There they were.

Stuffing the bun uncerimoniously in his mouth, Sabel chewed on it as he made his way over to the Rider and the Shacklebolt. Stuffing one hand in each pocket, he pulled out two letters, flipped them both about and then handed them to the kids. "As promised."

SPOILER!!: Letter for Benzi Rider

To the Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement
Emily Browne,

Please accept this letter as an official recommendation of Benjamin Rider into the YATI program. A graduate from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, I have had the opportunity to get to know Rider for the past two years. He has been an active participant in Defense Against the Dark Arts classes as well as the dueling club. In both he has proved a capable and talented wizard, with a knack for resources and fortitude.

While Benjamin can be a little thick skulled and stubborn on emotional will, his heart and morality aligns with all the values which the Department of Magical Law Enforcement adheres to. I have never met an Auror lacking in these qualities, and as such believe him a prime candidate for the molding of the YATI program.

This letter carries my highest recommendation for his placement, as well as expectation for his continued exceptional performance in the program. Should you wish to discuss his character further, please do not hesitate to contact me.

You know where to find me.

Yours,
Sabel Keith Dakest

SPOILER!!: Evangeline Shacklebolt

To the Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement
Emily Browne,

Please accept this letter as an official recommendation of Evangeline Shacklebolt into the YATI program. As a graduate from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, I have had the opportunity to see Shacklebolt's character over the past two years. She is proud, stubborn and willfully determined. All the qualities of a good Auror that form the base layer for what every Auror becomes. A foundation that cannot be taught or shaped by mere training.

Her willful determination pushes her to excel in every aspect of training and work. Her stubbornness keeps her pushing even when it seems like an impossible thing to do. And her pride keeps her head in moral waters. All three are essential qualities of an Auror in training, and I do not think that you will find any of them lacking in her.

I have had the opportunity to get to know Shacklebolt over the past two years, as a student in Defense Against the Dark Arts classes and an active participant in the dueling club. She has not disappointed in ability or talent, and I believe she will continue that track record into her employment.

This letter carries my highest recommendation for her placement, as well as expectation for her continued exceptional performance in the program. Should you wish to discuss her character further, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours,
Sabel Keith Dakest

They could read them when they pleased, or not read them at all. "If you would like to hand them in yourselves, you are more than welcome. However, if you would like me to deliver them personally, then I will do so."

There was no smile for either of them. They both knew how grave of a matter he viewed this as, but that didn't mean he didn't understand. Didn't support them in it. "If you two need anything, you let your co-workers know. You let your Department Head know. You let me know. You got it?"

Big summer plans? Rooney shrugged, because he wasn't too sure what his plans were entirely. Looking into things about his birth father, definitely and trying to understand why his grandparents had nothing to do with him. And then there was the issue that was his younger brothers and their attitude problems. "I'll probably just sign up for more acting classes." It wasn't like he could join an extensive productive for the few months that they were out of school. Hogwarts was really bogging down on his career choice.

What was it with members of staff and interrupting his time to mourn his former relationship with the Head Girl? The second year looked to Professor Dakest and nodded, trying his best to put a grateful smile on his face. "I'm sure my force resides in a different direction, Sir. I don't think duelling is for me." And that was the decision he had made. He'd been beaten by a bully and then beaten by a Muggle and everything was just wrong for the Ravenclaw and using his wand that way. He wasn't cut out for it.

Austin just watched the table as the feast went on. Mail was coming in, a girl was running up and down the aisle, and the grey lady was ghosting around. All in all it was a normal end of term feast. He wanted desperately to pull out his potions notebook and glance through it, but he knew that he had all summer to do that. So instead he decided the better idea would be to eat, and enjoy the company of his fellow 'Claws.

The headmaster began his speech for the night, and it wasn't too different from previous years. He talked mostly about the camps from the winter, which Austin had participated in. Well, he showed up for that one breakfast and hedge race, but that was about it. The soon to be fifth year wanted to do his best to make friends this term. Maybe he didn't do as well a job as he had hoped.

Wait, what?! Davie hadn't even seen the sneaky DADA professor pop up over his shoulder. His mouth fell open a little bit at the mention of his weird second cousin or whatever... Sander? Sander Bunbury?! SANDER had something to do with that memory?!! Davie was 100% GONNA INVESTIGATE THAT!

Gaping mouth spreading into a grin, Davie hinged in his seat and beamed at the professor. "Thanks, sir! I also wanted to say thanks for running the dueling club. It was a lot of fun. I hope we get to do it again next term." Or even if he didn't duel, he could at least watch some of them!

He had goals now to accomplish per the Head Girl's example.

Awww, Davie was so cute. She was gonna miss that little guy, always admiring her and calling her by her unofficial title. Evie smiled fondly at the boy. "I'm gonna join the YATI program so I can be an Auror," she told him proudly. And then she watched him interact with Sophie and smiled more. What a cutie.

Although part of her still wasn't sure if it was a good idea to spend her last feast of Hogwarts with Benzi... she had to let it go. There was no reason not to. Everything that was done was just that: done. New page was turned. New chapter was beginning. It was all good.

She didn't really appreciate being manhandled and scooted down the bench, though. She grunted and squawked as she tried keep her balance and shot him a dirty look when he sat in between her and Sophie. "Glad I didn't try to fight you," she muttered under her breath as she fixed her robes. Apparently Benzi's moping was over. You're welcome.

Evie was pulled from her contemplative thoughts of Benzi when she felt someone tap her shoulder. She grinned before she even turned around, recognizing whose voice was speaking her name. Evie lept up from her seat and turned around, wrapping her lanky arms around Damien's shoulders as if she hadn't seen him in ages.

"Will you sit?" she asked after kissing his cheek. The speech was over and Evie wanted him by her side. It's not like she wouldn't ever see him again. He was her best friend and she wouldn't that happen. But she wanted him to be with her on this last night.

Of all the things Evie accomplished this year, getting Sophie back as her friend again was quite possibly the most important. Everything had been her own fault anyway, and for the longest time she wasn't sure Sophie would want her back. Sophie Brown, the biggest heart in the castle. How did Evie get so lucky?

Evie was all smiles, but she could tell this was very bittersweet for Sophie. She was more attached to this place and these people than Evie was. But she got it, she understood. "You'll see them again," she reassured, giving her side a squeeze. And if not, she could always cry at Evie at school and Evie would do her very best to make her feel better.

"I'm good," she said, her smile returning. "I feel good, I just... I don't know. I'm just happy." It was like all the stuff, good or bad, that had happened up until this point didn't matter. Evie was just happy and peaceful. She was with the people that meant the most to her, besides her family, and it made her happy.

Before she could say anymore to anyone, a folded piece of paper came into view, right in front of her face. Evangeline grabbed it and looked up, somewhat surprised to see Professor Dakest there. Oh, this was.... OH. She knew what this was! Evie stood back up and quickly opened the letter, just to confirm her suspicions. Her mind was too scattered to read the whole thing, but she skimmed enough to know what it said.

Evie's face broke out into a grin, well aware that Dakest was not smiling one bit. "Thank you!" she said excitedly, nodding. She would let him know if she needed anything. He probably knew that. She'd be contacting him after school was out, anyway.

Without hesitation and with a squeak of excitement, Evie flung her arms around the man and gave him a HUG. BIG EVIE HUG. Something she would never have done up until this point. She didn't make it long and painful for him, though. She pulled herself away when she was able to contain herself and tucked the letter into the inside pocket of her robe. "Thank you," she said again, this time much more calm.

He'll admit, this was strange. Sitting beside Sophie Brown and her fanclub on one side, and Evangeline Shacklebolt on the other... it was strange. Benzi considered moving when said Evangeline spoke up - or muttered rather - and he grinned. Nope. This was the right place to be.

Especially since Hayley was all the way over with the Puffs and he would be all alone otherwise.

"Damien! I'm good I'm good, just waiting for the good. Yourself?" he asked the Gryffindor, smiling and nodding as he joined them. Mentally, Benzi made a note to perhaps catch him on the train back home tomorrow. He wanted to keep in touch with this one.

Seeing that Evie was now talking to Damien and Sophie Brown busy with her adoring crowd, Benzi decided this was the perfect time to slip out and go write in the memory book. See ya.

Text Cut: Sophie Brown

Benzi had just taken his seat opposite the rest of the seventh years when Botros made his speech. The Ravenclaw frowned during the entire time their Headmaster talked, and wondered if Bortros' memory was going. It was kind of sad to be honest. Opening his mouth to share his thoughts with the group, Benzi was stunned silent as Sophie Brown let out an inhuman screech and before anyone knew it, was off to show whatever the letter had contained off the staff.

... Right. Cool. Congratulations. Food time!

Happily plowing through his potatoes, Benzi was trying to locate his girlfriend in the great hall when a certain VERY IMPORTANT Professor made his way towards the Ravenclaw table. Swallowing quickly and wiping his mouth, the seventh year watched curiously as he walked forward and OH. A LETTER. For him and Evie.

Oh. OH. This must be the recommendation they were promised. ... Whoa. Unlike Evie, Benzi stared at the hand offering him the letter for a bit before he slowly took it, heart thundering as he held it between his fingers. A recommendation letter from Professor Sabel Dakest to the DMLE, telling them they should accept him into their exclusive program.

And they could either choose to hand it in themselves or have Dakest do it. No no, Benzi wanted Dakest to do it. But.. he also wanted a copy for himself. Flicking his wand out of its wrist holster, Benzi quickly muttered his now perfected protean charm, folded up the fake copy and handed the original back to Dakest as he stood. Or, well, he'd wait for Miss Evangeline Shacklebolt to stop hugging him, and then he would.

"Professor, if you could hand it in, I'd be.. really grateful." And now he did smile. "Thank you." You know, for basically everything. For making his two years here worthwhile. For teaching him, for believing in him, for not pestering him to talk when he didn't want to.

So... Yes. Benzi extended his hand out. A thank you handshake was about to happen.

There was one more person at the Ravenclaw table that Janelle needed to see. He wasn't hard to find and she made her way in his direction. Waiting her turn, the almost fourth year approached Benzi.

When she caught the older boy's eye, Janelle made her move. "Hi. I just wanted to say good luck. You've been a great prefect and an awesome partner. You helped me out in History of Magic and I really appreciated it." Suddenly feeling awkward, Janelle decided to wrap it up. "So.......um.........take care and thanks again.". Whew, that was harder than Janelle thought it would be.

Upon hearing his name, the soon-to-be-no-longer fourth year looked up, but before he could respond, the Gryffindor was off on a tangent about... words?

With a bit of an amused smirk, the Ravenclaw waited for him to finish. "Deep questions before anyone's had a chance to eat," he responded. "But linguistics isn't really my thing."

He'd spent enough time with Damien to know, though, that there was probably some other reason he was here.

"Congratulations on graduating."

He was sure the lion would get to the point on his own time.

Funny, Damien didn't think Thornton ever smirked. It seemed unlike the polite young man, but the lion thought it suited him. Made him seem older, more... assured. "Deep questions wait for no one, young Baines. The universe is a mystery." He nodded, a smirk mirroring the younger boys watching across his face. Man, he was going to miss the guy.

"Thank you, I'm still kinda surprised I made it." That was another joke, but really, there had been a few harrowing moments during his school career, so maybe there was more then some truth there. "Hey... I uh, I have something for you." Damien side, pulling out his favorite bubble make from a pocket in his robes. "This." He simply added, holding it out for the Eagle.

"Will you sit?" she asked after kissing his cheek. The speech was over and Evie wanted him by her side. It's not like she wouldn't ever see him again. He was her best friend and she wouldn't that happen. But she wanted him to be with her on this last night.

Damien returned the grin, any fear evaporating as Evangeline wrapped him up in a hug that he reciprocated with the same eagerness and affection. Merlin, what had he even been worried about? This was him and Evie, nothing could change things, he'd said so himself, and he'd kept saying it until he absolutely believed it.

There went the ears, slightly pining without his bidding, but his expression was as calm as ever. "Of course." He said, nodding and taking the seat beside her without another thought. There wasn't a seat in the house he'd like better. "You ready for the rest of it?" Damien asked, turning to face her.

See ya.

"Good, good, man. I'm glad to hear it." He felt a little like that guy at the party who has too much to drink and goes around telling everyone how much he loved them, but Damien couldn't help it, he was feeling the night, taking the emotions as they came because brushing them off wasn't helping. "I'm.... I'm alright, it's a good night for goodbyes." He said, nodding again. He wanted to add something about how nice it was that Benzi hadn't beaten him to a pulp before, but this wasn't the time. Maybe they could grab another round of cider and laugh about it.

Damien made a mental note to drop the guy a line sometime.

"That is true," he said with a laugh. The Universe was indeed full of mysteries. The Ravenclaw had been in much better spirits the past few weeks, and anyone who had seen him in both, say, January, and now, would notice how remarkable a change it was.

As Thornton watched, his eyebrows knitting together in confusion until he saw what was in Damien's hand. AS it registered, he looked up, expression soft and maybe a bit confused. "Your bubble.." he trailed off, looking back at the object. Of course he recognized it. His eyes lifting again, he looked at the older boy. "You want me to have it? But.. " That was one of Damien's favorite things. Surely, he didn't mean for Thornton to keep it always.

Reaching out, though, he took it from the Gryffindor and held it in his hand.

"Why?"

I don't think duelling is for me." And that was the decision he had made. He'd been beaten by a bully and then beaten by a Muggle and everything was just wrong for the Ravenclaw and using his wand that way. He wasn't cut out for it.

A small smile touched Sabel's lips at the boy's explanation, and he nodded his head in understanding. "It's not for everyone. But you did well."

He could have gone on to say that the kid shouldn't be discouraged, for in every failure there was a lesson, but at the moment he didn't feel like being philosophical. That, and an extended hand for a handshake seemed to speak more than enough words.

SPOILER!!: Davie!

The look on the kid's face was priceless. Though it did remind him of something. He was going to have to warn Sander, and tell him to leave out certain names and locations, wasn't he? Goodness knew with the palpable curiosity beaming on Truebridge's face, it was likely he would go investigate the exact location for some sort of reenactment. Anastasia would skin him if she found out.

No sooner was he about to offer some sort of warning advice or condition of such disclosure, when the topic of the dueling club was brought up. Sabel's smile did a bit of a waver, but he held it fast. "Thank you for joining, Truebridge. You did exceptionally well."

And as for next term? A slow breath out. "The club is scheduled to run again, but the ultimate decision will lie with your new Defense Professor." News. Dropped. He sped up a bit more to try and roll it all into something that really wasn't a big deal. "I've got some personal matters to attend to, so I won't be returning to Hogwarts."

Yeah there was that. But he wasn't going to leave it like that. Holding out his hand, in what he'd seen done as a fist-bump gesture, Sabel smiled at the kid. "It's been a slice."

SPOILER!!: Evie! >.>

So, he had expected some sort of excited reaction from Shacklebolt for the letter, but not quite to the degree she displayed. At first, he was nodding and smiling a bit, at her thanks and her obvious gratification for the letter. Though, he really did wonder if she got to reading the full thing properly, because it wasn't exactly an equolent review of bursting butterflies and rainbows.

There was no time to contemplate this, however, as he suddenly found himself in a very Browne-esque bear hug. Except, it was an Evie hug and that was not something he had expected. More than a bit ruffled, Sabel went stock still for a moment, before cautiously bringing a hand up and patting her shoulder.

"Uhm...your...welcome...." She did realize she was hugging him in front of the entire school right? Ruining his whole 'terrifying-professor' montage. She could....oh there. He was free. And she got a side eye for the hug, before he decided it really didn't matter.

"Don't let me down, Squirt." And with that, he gave her a little elbow nudge. What did his image really matter anymore?

SPOILER!!: Benzi!

Oh.

Thankfully, Rider was much more reserved in his reactions. There was no hugs or squealing or any such thing. Very reserved, and it was much appreciated.

Taking the letter from Rider, Sabel nodded. "I can do that." And then, there was massive impressed points for the offered handshake. With a smile, Sabel took hold of the kid's hand and gave it a firm shake. "Good work this year."

Hearing her name Helena turned to gaze over at Benzi Rider, one of the graduating seventh year and house prefects. Blushing just a little she smiled in response. "Thank you Benzi, but I think you should give yourself most of the credit. You did all the hard work. I just provided some guidance." Not that Helena didn't love getting compliments but Benzi's pending grade on the exams she had no control over. It all came down to his knowledge in the subject.

Turning her pale gaze to the second year boy as Rooney protested that he was not in fact crying with his arms folded against his chest. "I see..," Helena said, playing with the fan in her hand. "If you are not crying then, what are you doing?" She asked interestedly. "Eagles are supposed to be smart and quick witted and competitive at least academically." Letting her eyes scan up and down the table she continued eyes back on Rooney. "If you want something or someone then find a way to get it or at least fight to achieve it using your wisdom and intelligence." That was Helena's unsolicited eagle advice. "And also sit up straight, and stop looking like a sad dog. This is supposed to be a joyful evening."

She was simply chalked full of compliments. Mhm!
Turning to Reagan she couldn't help but smile kindly at the graduating seventh year as she complimented her teaching. "Why thank you Reagan. It pleases me to hear that you thought my history lessons were inspired." Floating a bit sideways so that she was hovering in front of the teenage girl Helena said "You'll presence will be greatly missed in the eagle den come September. The vegan snacks will remain. What are you plans after Hogwarts? University studies I presume?"

Smiling kindly over at fourth year Helena said "The colour looks pretty Kitty, but I can't use or touch anything solid. I'd just go through it so i'll just have to admire it on you from afar." It was one of the side-effects of being a ghost that she just had to live with. "Have you got any summer plans, you're looking forward too?"

[/color]
She wasn't ghastly and snide and aloft was she? Helena's eyes darted over to the Gryffindor Table where Sir Nicholas was holding court before she focused on Sophie again. "I've been at you about your unladylike ways because that was how my mother was against me. I didn't do it to be snide or horrible Sophie. I did it to get you to rise to your full potential. It's in the face of bumps that we rise and grow and you've certainly shown that you've done that." Helena explained. It wasn't an apology not really but that was the best she could do. Smiling kindly she continued. "I will miss you Sophie. I wish you all the best in life."

"Why?"
It was good to see Thornton look so well, and speak so lightly for once, it warmed up Damien's heart. The two weren't the closest of friends, but during the past few years he had become very fond of the moody Ravenclaw. Was it weird that he reminded Damien of himself? They did both seem to take things very much to heart, after all. Oh, and the eyeballs, Thornton didn't look like he slept much ether.

The key difference was Thornton's reserve and Damien's lack of it.

A difference that made this decision an easy one.

Damien smiled again, this one was warmer, but there was a hint of melancholy too that he couldn't hide. "Yeah, no one in the school who would put it to better use." He lightly said, clapping the Ravenclaw on the back.

"Why?" Ravenclaws, bless them, they needed to know everything, didn't they? He loved that about them, as much as he loved the Hufflepuffs for their belief in friendship, the Slytherins for their loyalty, and the Pride for that dangerous taste for risk. Merlin, he was going to miss Hogwarts something bad. "Because.... Everyone needs a little lightness, a touch of the weird and the absurd, y'know?" He grinned, eyes shifting from the bubble marker to Thornton's surprised features. "I think... This... makes sense, you keeping it."

There he was, teaching himself to say goodbye, and here he thought he hated endings.
