The first you see is the fishing gear hanging on pins left of the doorway. The librarian is a bit fishing obsessed so he has brought some fishing equipment if time lets him explore the great lake’s fishing possibilities. The next thing you feel is cozy warmth emanating from the roaring fire place nearby. Remembering the chilliness of the halls and rooms in the castle from his years here Mr Kitridge has taken steps to see too that at least one place is warm and comfortable. In the center of the office you see what should be a desk under all the stuff currently placed on it like charts, crammers, stacks of books, an odd telescope or crystal ball and last but not least a big bowl of candy. Behind the desk, a large comfy chair with a pillow in it is situated.
Hanging on the walls around the office are portraits of former notable librarians like Madam Pince, Madam Rowena, Angela Kohan, David Kapoor and Madam Donovan. The collection of portraits/photographs is completed with some Kitridges who've been successful in some way or other through the course of time. No office of a librarian is complete without a curvy s-shaped bookshelf.
OCC: I will not have an arrival thread so please don't clog up the thread with 'waiting to enter' posts. Have your character knock on the door and then wait for Mr Kitridge to allow you to enter or to come back later. If you have any questions or want to set up a meeting don't hesitate to PM or VM me.
Adelynn had put on her best pair of robes and thoroughly brushed her hair before heading over to meet her head of house. She wanted to look nice and put together as her family always urged the importance of first impressions.
She was a bit nervous, as this was a big moment for her, but excited too. I mean she was meeting the RAVENCLAW head of house, who also happened to be the librarian. That basically made him the coolest wizard at Hogwarts, right?
Tucked under her arm was a gift that she had brought for Mr. Kitridge. She walked up to his office door, took a deep breathe, and knocked on the door.

With his duties in the library squared away Leo had retreated back to his office to deal with paperwork and his duties as Head of House. If time allowed before dinner he'd answer some personal correspondence too. Leo had just put on a pot of tea and was fixing himself a fruit snack as it knocked on his office door.
Adjusting his robes, and giving a look around the office, Leo gave his sleeping white kneazle a stroke behind the ear in passing as he went to answer the door. Unlocking said door he peered out at the young girl standing there. Immediately Leo's face turned into a beam as he greeted her. "Hello Adelynn right, new eagle first year?" Gesturing behind him he asked "Would you like to come inside? You aren't allergic to kneazles i hope?"

Phew. He was there! Adelynn didn't have to worry about climbing down all those stairs to the fourth floor just to head back to the Ravenclaw tower. Those stairs were difficult and she was still getting used to all the walking.
When the door opened she smiled at her Head of House for the first time. "Hi, yes I'm Adelynn! This is my first year at Hogwarts but I'm a third year, sir."
She accepted his offer of coming inside his office by walking in. "Thanks," she said as she passed him. "Oh, and don't worry. No kneazle allergies, sir."
She was so anxious to be meeting him. All the adult wizards at Beauxbatons were on good terms with her throughout her time there but they could be intimidating at times. Since she had started at Hogwarts, she didn't meet many adults yet and Mr. Kitridge was the most important person for her to meet. "It's very nice to meet you, sir!" She hoped she wasn't being too formal.

Smiling Leo nodded "Ah, you've started just in time for elective year. I personally enjoyed taking Care of Magical Creatures and Divination when i could in third year." But all 4 electives were interesting and had wonderful and skilled teachers. He just had never been good at math and runes.
He let Adelynn walk in ahead of him as he closed the door behind them. It was a good thing that she wasn't allergic since his kneazle Madonna, had long white fur. As he came back inside the office he moved to take off the teapot that whistling loudly, a sign that the tea was hot. Looking over at Adelynn he asked "It's very nice to meet you too. Where did get your magical education the first two years?" Leo had probably read something about that in her file but he preferred hearing it from Adelynn.
Geaturing towards the teapot Leo asked "Do you like tea?"
It would have been easy enough to find the office even without Kitridge and Rea along with him. Despite it being the first day, Daxton had already discovered the location of the library and figured out exactly how to get there. It was only logical that Kitridge, as librarian, should have his office here.
When he reached the door, having said not a single word along the way, Daxton stopped. Opening doors was not quite as anxiety-provoking as knocking on them, but still. He would wait for Kitridge to do that part.

Adelynn beamed at Mr. Kitridges mention of elective year. This had added to her very long list as to why she was excited to finally be at Hogwarts. "Yes, I'm really excited for Care of Magical Creatures! I find it so fascinating. But I'm looking forward to all of them really, sir." She said with a smile.
She watched as Mr. Kitridge went over to his teapot, and then looked up at him to answer his question. "I went to Beauxbatons!" Despite being born in London and living there her whole life, her mother had always loved the French culture. Her mother even had an estate in Southern France that the family would spend summers at.
Adelynn thought of the French school and her mixed feelings about it. "It was nice, but I didn't always feel like it was the school for me. I had read up about Hogwarts and it instantly became my dream school, sir!" Now that she actually attended Hogwarts, she couldn't be happier.
At the mention of tea, her eyes lit up. "I love tea!" She loved all types of teas: white, black, green, herbal. If you had it, she would drink it.

She'd tried to make the trip by herself...but with her short legs, Rea had been caught up with. Faster strides next time. She'd work on that.
...Not that she didn't enjoy both her Head of House and Daxton, even though she didn't properly know the younger boy yet. That was just her way, though. Love and appreciate everyone no matter what they might do onto you. Reagan believed in the power of THREE and Karma. Very much so.
Also, some people just needed a little kindness in their lives. It really could make all the difference.
...and Reagan was following Daxton's lead. Silence and not entering Mr. Kitridge's office first. Surely it was more polite and acceptable to wait.

Beaming Leo said as he lost himself in memories just a little. "I took creatures too when I went here. It was fun to see creatures in the flesh and not just talk about them." But back to Adelynn and the present. "I take it you love creatures then? Do you have any pets of your own?" Speaking of pets a glance over at Madonna showed that his kneazle was still very much asleep in her basket.
What Adelynn said next broadened Leo's smile a little more as he fixed up the tea tray with a few cookies and gestured for Adelynn to join him and take a seat in the little comfy chair and table area that Leo had to the right of his desk. "Beauxbatons is a good magical school but we are very glad that you've transferred to Hogwarts. How did it feel to be sorted by the sorting hat?" A question he had always wanted to ask. Pouring up a cup of green tea for Adellynn Leo held it out to her saying "Here you are, drink while its hot."

It had been a long day for all of them so when the trio reached his office Leo unlocked the door and lead the way inside. He assumed that whoever entered last of Rea and Dax would shut the door after them. With some quick flicks of his wand Leo lit the lamps in his office and fixed three cups of steaming hot chocolate.
Moving an extra comfy chair into the little seating area he gestured for his two eagles to claim the two remaining comfy chairs. He had placed their cups of chocolate on the nearby table for them. Cupping his hands around his cup Leo let his eyes move from Reagan to Daxton. "Can you two explain to me why you didn't like the cooking event that me and Tiara had planned as a welcome back to school event for the eagles?"

Reagan briefly considered the hot chocolate, but ultimately decided not to partake. There was no way to know if dairy products had been used and keeping in her mind her personal views on the mistreatment of cows, it was just best to say no.
...and because she'd gotten the sense that Daxton was uncomfortable with speaking, Rea didn't mind initiating the dialogue.
With a warm smile at their Head of House, she crossed her legs and leaned forward a bit. "Sir, I was personally uncomfortable with the presence of ground beef among the ingredients. So, I simply thought I might excuse myself from the activity...so not to make anyone else feel awkward."
Well, he'd asked...and she was certainly not a liar. Best to just get all the cards on the table, right?

As was the case whenever he entered a new place, Daxton was cautious on the way into the office, paying no mind to the door he left wide open behind him, not realising it was supposed to be shut. It was warm in here, a little too warm actually, and the first year tugged at his shirt collar automatically, to get the air circulating and hopefully prevent overheating on top of everything else. He was not entirely sure what he was supposed to do without a verbal instruction, and so waited until but Rea and Mr. Kitridge were seated before he followed suit and did the same.
The hot chocolate was largely ignored, but for a glance, more due to a lack of understanding that one of the mugs was for him than to intentionally be rude or anything of the sort... though he may well have turned it down in any case.
At his Head of House's question, Daxton at first just gave a simple not of his head. Because yes, he could explain why he did not like the event. It was not until Rea had launched into the specifics of her own reasoning that Daxton considered that that was the actual question they were being asked. So, after Rea had stopped and there came a long pause, he though that perhaps he was supposed to actually explain why. At that point, he retrieved his notebook and biro from his bag, and neatly wrote his answer out on a fresh page before holding it up so the man could read it.
'I hate people and I hate dealing with food and I hate noise.'
Practical and to the point and completely and utterly truthful, that was what that answer was. There were perhaps other factors to be considered, but those were Daxton's initial reasons for not wanting to be at the event. Perhaps now he would not be expected to be social in the future.

Adelynn smiled at Mr. Kitridges nice words about Care of Magical Creatures class. It made her even more interested in the lessons. if that was even possible. At the mention of pets, Adelynn perked up her eyebrows. "I do! I have 3 cats, 3 owls, and a pygmy puff but they're all at home with my family!" she said, with a smile. "I'm hoping on bringing my cat with me to the school next term, sir. You see, my parents never wanted me to bring one to school until I was teenager so that I could fully focus on my studies without being distracted by a pet." She said, thinking back to the lonely nights she would have at Beauxbatons without a furry friend. "So now that I'm 13, I was supposed to bring one this year, sir! But since it's my first year at a new school, my parents wanted to make sure I could take care of myself at Hogwarts before adding a pet into the mix." she added with a sigh.
Adelynn went over to the chair Mr. Kitridge had gestured at and took a seat. Her eyes turned a bit glossy as she remembered being sorted by the sorting hat. It was a moment she had spent the entire summer anticipating and it was everything she hoped it would be. "Oh, sir! It was..." she tried to think of the right word to describe it. "divine! It felt like the sorting hat was in my mind!" she said. "I was so happy to be placed into Ravenclaw. And when I found out that my Head of House was also the librarian I nearly fainted! You're like a real life superhero, sir!" she said with excitement. House pride and books were two of her favorite things.
She smiled at the sight of the green tea and cookies. She reached her hand out, taking the cup from Mr. Kitridge. "Thank you, sir." She said and lightly blew on the tea and took a sip.
With a warm smile at their Head of House, she crossed her legs and leaned forward a bit. "Sir, I was personally uncomfortable with the presence of ground beef among the ingredients. So, I simply thought I might excuse myself from the activity...so not to make anyone else feel awkward."
After Reagan's explanation Leo sat silent for a moment, sipping on his chocolate before he responded calmly his gaze on her. "I see. The meats presence was what made you uncomfortable because of a strong personal belief perhaps? Or because you want to avoid eating meat because you're a vegetarian? Or another reason entirely?" If Leo had known this before-hand he could have excluded the meat from the ingredients. He wanted all the eagles to enjoy the event not get uncomfortable enough that they'd want to leave.
SPOILER!!: Daxton

Turning his eyes to Daxton, he could have guessed on a hundred reasons for the eleven year old boys wish to leave the event. He would never had guessed on what came up on a fresh page of the boys notebook.
Hating people...Hating noise and food.
Staring he opened his mouth several times to respond but then closed it again. Sipping on his chocolate Leo gathered his thoughts. When he finally responded he hoped that the surprise he was feeling didn't colour his voice or body language too much. "I'm sorry to hear that but hate is such a strong word for someone that is still growing up. We want every student that goes to Hogwarts to be happy and get along with their peers and professors. Is there anything I can do to make your stay at Hogwarts and in Ravenclaw easier?" Sweet Merlin. Leo hoped he had said and reacted appropriately. He had not expected this. Especially from an 11 year old boy.
SPOILER!!: Adelynn

When Adelynn had explained her pet situation to him, Leo smiled warmly and replied. "You're parents seem to be sensible," His eyes automatically moved to his own curled up, sleeping kneazle before going back to the third year with sympathy. "I take it though that you miss your cat's companionship?" If she did it wasn't unnatural it was just what every young girl or boy went through. It was perfectly all right to get homesick. Even Leo remembered vaguely how he had felt in his junior years when he had been away from his family.
"The sorting hat does posses some very strong magic so it's not entirely impossible that it actually took a peek into your brain and saw your inner most thoughts and desires." He pointed out. "But I'm far from an expert. I'm really glad you enjoyed the sorting experience though. It's supposed to be memorable." Leo said as he raised his cup to drink his tea. He almost choked on his tea though as he blushed in reaction to Adelynn's words. Coughing he shook his head in disbelief "Thank you, but I'm far from a superhero. I just work around books and try to help my eagles to the best of my abilities." If Cassie was there right then she'd probably say that he was being too modest but Leo had never really been comfortable with people giving him grand compliments. It just made him look for the catch. Taking a cookie from the tray he took a few bites out of it in between tea sips. "How's classes going? Have you made any friends yet?"

"I am a vegan...but more importantly than that, I do not approve of the slaughter of animals for our consumption." Mhm, Reagan was remaining absolutely lovely and pleasant but was also resolved to present the facts as they were. Nothing more, nothing less. "It's a personal choice, but I refuse to be in the same space as massacred cow."
Also, she was an activist. An ANIMAL activist. Despite whatever the adult in the room wished, Reagan wouldn't subject herself to that offense.
...and then she offered a small shrug.
"This is just who I am, Mr. Kitridge."...and she wasn't apologizing for it. BUT SHE WAS BEING LOVELY. No sarcasm or hurtful words.

Once he had allowed what he considered to be ample time for Kitridge to read his reply (but was really only maybe a second or two), Daxton lowered the notebook again and set it down on his knees. His Head of House seemed to be trying to do some sort of impression of a goldfish, the way he kept opening and closing his mouth like that. Daxton (who was so used to people responding to him in such a way that he considered it just another regular thing that people did that he just did not understand, like handshakes) took the time to look around the office properly, taking in all the sights he could see from his position in the chair. It really was very warm in here, too. How did the man stand it?
At last, Kitridge spoke again and Daxton directed his gaze back in his general direction. What he said was puzzling, though. Hate was a strong word? Was it though? Daxton believed that 'hate' perhaps wasn't strong enough for what he felt, but before he had time to argue semantics, the rest of Kitridge's words had taken all of his attention.
Daxton shook his head vehemently, because no. He hated accepting help more even more than he admitted needing it, which rarely ever happened if he could help it. In his eleven-year-old wisdom he had already come to the conclusion it was much better, much safer, to go things alone and rely on nobody. Even when his mother had accepted the Hogwarts hardship fund so that they could buy his pre-owned books and uniform and the like for school, Daxton had been furious. He did not need anyone, he did not need their help.
The nod was all the answer he saw fit to give, and so Daxton then found himself intrigued by what Rea was saying, about eating animals. He did not look at her, but instead at the fire, face expressionless while he listened in and quickly decided that she was talking total rubbish.

Setting his cup of chocolate down on the table aware that neither Reagan nor Daxton had touched their cups, Leo placed his hands in his lap as his eyes found Reagan's again and he spoke. "I respect your vegan diet and that you feel strongly about how animals are treated and consumed. I do not know where the house elves got the meat from that they provided us with for the event but I am certain that all the food we eat here at Hogwarts comes from animals that have been cared for with love and respect."
Picking up his chocolate again he took a sip before he continued quietly stating. "Everyone is entitled to their own views and opinions and choice of diet. I expect you to let your peers eat what they wish at meal times and not look to influence them differently." If Reagan did then Leo could potentially see a feather turn into a hen in a short time. Something he wished to avoid. Would she not attend CoMC classes then because of her strong beliefs?
SPOILER!!: Daxton

Even when his mother had accepted the Hogwarts hardship fund so that they could buy his pre-owned books and uniform and the like for school, Daxton had been furious. He did not need anyone, he did not need their help.
The nod was all the answer he saw fit to give, and so Daxton then found himself intrigued by what Rea was saying, about eating animals. He did not look at her, but instead at the fire, face expressionless while he listened in and quickly decided that she was talking total rubbish.
Turning his attention to Daxton he expected to get an answer to his offer of help or an explanation to the hate statement. The only thing Leo got in response was a shake of the heard which he interpreted as a no. "I see, if you change your mind and want help or just someone to talk to, you know where to find me Daxton. You are free to go back to your dorm now and sleep." He was not going to press an 11 year old boy that had stated just minutes before that he 'hated' people in general and was clearly not interested in talking about it.

Reagan could tell that Mr. Kitridge was listening to her, but maybe she'd not made herself very clear. Sometimes miscommunication happened, even when she tried her hardest to explain things. See, words didn't always come easily. So, shifting around slightly in her seat, Rea implored the man to hear what she was saying.
"Sir, that's why I was resigned to excuse myself from the activity. It would NEVER be my wish to make anyone else uneasy or awkward. Or to make them feel pressured to partake in my personal diet. I care too much about people to make them uncomfortable."
...and then she smiled a quiet, peaceful little smile; first at Mr. Kitridge and then at Daxton, who was peering at her confusedly. Her choices probably made no sense to either of them, but that didn't matter one bit. Being different was the spice of life. It's what made them all individually interesting.
"It's getting late, sir. Was there anything else you needed to discuss with me?" Lessons started bright and early tomorrow...and Reagan needed a good night's sleep.

Daxton's brow furrowed in confusion for a moment as he looked back at Mr. Kitridge and considered his words. 'Wanting help' was a concept that made little sense to him, but the idea that he might want someone to talk to, in the literal or figurative sense... it baffled him entirely.
Eventually, he gave a confused, uncertain nod, and pushed himself up out of the chair. Daxton had never been much good at knowing the rules of social interaction, so he neglected to say or sign or otherwise gesture his goodbye, and simply made his way straight out of the office.
Sleep, yes. That, he would do.

Adelynn nodded at Mr. Kitridges comment about her parents. "Indeed, sir!" She then looked down. "But yes, I do miss my kitty, her name is Elsie. She's the cutest cat that you'll ever see, ooh I wish I had a picture with me to show you!" Her other two cats were cool too, but they were more of family pets. Elsie had a personal liking to Adelynn and vice versa.
Adelynn smiled and listened to Mr. Kitridge. The sorting hat definitely had some type of magic to it that Adelynn had never seen before. Then she bit her lip nervously at Mr. Kitridges reaction to her fascination with him. She didn't mean to make him uncomfortable, she kind of just had that effect on some people. She still strongly felt that he had incredible occupations at Hogwarts though and felt the need to voice it. "Superheros come in all different forms, sir!" she took a quick sip of her tea and continued, "Honestly, I think you're living, like truly living." she said with a slow nod. "I mean you get to be around books, so you can learn about any subject you wish! You also get to help others too! And there are so many other things that come with the job. I mean I couldn't even..." She thought about the idea of her potentially becoming a Head of House in another 15 years or so, and shook her head. "IMAGINE doing what you do. Nope, I wouldn't be good enough. It's a great job but I'm sure there's so much competition and.." she ran out of breathe and then looked up at Mr. Kitridge. "I'm sorry, I can get a little carried away sometimes, sir."
The mention of classes kept her energy level up. "Oh, I love my classes! All my professors make the classes so much more interesting than they already are. Astronomy has to be one of my favorites so far!" Her first astronomy lesson was very memorable and stood out to her among the others.
Adelynn calmed down at the mention of friends, as much as she loved them dearly, she didn't find friends and relationships to be as exciting as learning. Adelynn had made a good variety of friends already, something she didn't expect but was happy with. "Yeah, the students here are great! I'm good friends with one of my dorm mates, met some friendly Gryffindors, and some people from the other houses too." She smiled. "I have to say, I'm a bit shocked at the amount of people I've befriended. I only had two or three close friends back at Beauxbatons, sir." She definitely was never a popular child but not a lonely one either.
Eventually, he gave a confused, uncertain nod, and pushed himself up out of the chair. Daxton had never been much good at knowing the rules of social interaction, so he neglected to say or sign or otherwise gesture his goodbye, and simply made his way straight out of the office.

Leo nodded to Daxton as the boy got up from his chair and left the office before he turned his attention to Reagan again.
"I commend you for thinking about your peers well being Reagan. Next time though, I suggest that you just signal either myself or Professor Tanner before you leave silently." The way Reagan had acted at the event she had brought attention to herself and her wishes to leave. Leo would have wondered about her reason for leaving but he'd have asked her about it at a later time. He wouldn't have felt the need to excuse himself to get clarity in to why she wanted to leave as he had done now. Tiara was probably wondering where he was too. Shaking his head he said "No, I have no further questions. You are free to retreat back to your dorm. Good night Reagan." Lifting his hot chocolate cup to his lips Leo took longs sips from it as he waited for Reagan to leave for her dorm before he closed his office and went to find Tiara.

Pausing from sipping on his tea Leo suggested. "You can always try writing home and telling your parents about your progress in the different subjects and friendship building and most of all that you miss your cat. And maybe they'll change their minds." It was a long shot he knew but it was better than waiting for the year to end. Leo couldn't picture being without his kneazle for a long period of time. When he had been in school he had his siblings with him so he hadn't needed a furry companion as much.
And then Adelynn awed him with a long outline of why she thought he was a living superhero because of all the duties he performed in a day's work and also helping students. With a smile pursing his lips Leo said when Adellyn finally paused her tirade. "I'm flattered that you consider me a superhero. I'm though just a 40 year old man that has taken on leading my former house in conjunction with my work as the school librarian. It's no different than what Professors Flamsteed and Moxley or Healer Tillstorm does." They were all heads of houses just like him.
Beaming he waved away her apology. "It's all right, everyone gets a little carried away sometimes. Why is Astronomy your favourite class so far?" What did Airey do that made the students love his lessons?
"Well hogwarts is full of surprises and I'm glad to hear that you've made friends not just in the house but across house lines. Its your friends that will help you get through your 7 years of magical eduction." Leo stated.

Zigzagging its way down from the Astronomy Tower and slipping under the door to the librarian's office, the little paper spaceship gained a little altitude and landed softly on the desk. There is sat, waiting to be opened, and when it was it would read

Mr. Kitridge -
I am writing to inform you that a Mr. David Truebridge has received detention and will be spending the next 24 hours handcuffed to Mr. Blaise Bellaire for their unruly behavior. Seeing as these circumstances prohibit either of them from returning to their common rooms, I have asked Sir Nicholas to keep an eye on the pair after hours who will no doubt find their sweet slumber in the Room of Requirement this evening. Mr. Truebridge will be released from detention approximately 24 hours from now upon completing an additional assignment for me.

In her almost three years at Hogwarts, Tia had never been to see her Head of House personally. But now, as she was finishing up with her sixth year and going to be entering her final year, with a wide variety of career choices, she figured she ought to sit down with Kitridge and discuss with him her options. What she was thinking.
Knocking at the door she had passed by hundreds of times before in her library visits, Tia waited and wondered if she ought to have brought him something from the kitchens or from Hogsmeade. Was it custom to bring your head of house gifts? She had no idea, but she supposed she could always bring something at another time.

Summer was approaching rapidly and with the sun making more frequent visits Leo's mood got happier and he felt more positive. It could have something to do with the latest development in his relationship with Cassie but that was a very private matter. Re-entering his office with a tray full off happy coloured cupcakes Leo aimed to get some library paper work sorted while he took a much needed coffee and cupcake break.
However he didn't get to drink his first sweet sip of coffee before it knocked on his office door. Getting to his feet Leo went to answer the door. Peering out at one of his eagles Leo beamed broadly when he recognized her. "Well good day TiaMarie, what brings you by my office? Care to come in for a cupcake?"

It was almost the end of the school year, and Kate had yet to make a personal visit to her Head of House's office. Sure, she'd seen him here and there, but a personal visit just because? Not yet. She had some free time in between two homework assignments she wanted to complete, so she bee-lined to the library. She didn't even stop to wonder if she was supposed to owl him first. She guessed he'd send her on her way if he was too busy or something.
Approaching the door, Kate saw Mr. Kittridge standing outside of it greeting Tia. "Hey, Mr. Kittridge! Hey, Tia!" Kate said. Well, this was convenient. She didn't even have to knock.

Perhaps he was out or busy? But just as Tia was about to turn around and go off and study someplace while waiting for Kitridge, the door swung open to reveal her head of house. Cupcake? Well if she'd known he was offering sugar in the library, she would have visited long before this moment.
"Evening, Mr Kitridge!" But before she could respond to anything else on why she was here or about a cupcake, someone was behind her. "Hey Kate," she smiled warmly at the younger eagle, before turning back to the librarian. "I'd love a cupcake. Looks like you got several colours available too." She peered at the tray. "I just wanted to talk about ... well, next year will be my last at Hogwarts, and I have no idea really what I want do when I leave." She had interests and talents, sure, but nothing really stuck out so far as a 'calling'. Maybe something with Herbology, but she wasn't sure if it was just an interest or something she thoroughly enjoyed.
