Spells may be used from the following List. Any spells on this list are not permitted unless approval has been granted.

Physical actions and their costs can be found below:

NOTE: Fatigue points ONLY need to be used when you are physically attacking someone, or avoiding a spell. All other maneuverings around the hall do not need to be accounted for.

Maintain respect.
Exhibit integrity.
Demonstrate skill.
Find ingenuity.
Use cunning.
Maintain strength.

Good luck

--------------------------------------

OOC: Each duel must be completed by no later than October 24, midnight GMT-6 (OOC). Remember that a duel ends when one dueler has lost ALL magic or ALL health points. Please make duels a minimum of 3 posts each.

These first duels will be a trail run of sorts. The point system for the spells and physical actions was done by thought and hasn't been tested. You all are the guinea pigs. Let me know how it goes If you find that there are be difficulties in the weight of points, please let me know. If there are spells missing you think should be included, please let me know.

If you have questions, please ask. Also, if for some reason you cannot complete or start your duel, please let both me and your partner know. We will work something out.

Remember: duelers MUST keep track of their own points as they go. At the top of their post (in the tag line) they must include their current standing of points, as they are at the BEGINNING of that post. At the bottom of their post, they must include a 'spoiler' tag, including the spells which they've cast (and the directionallity of the spell, so the opponent can easily reference the potential damage to themselves), the spell(s) that have affected them (if any) and their own final Point Standing for that post.

Rooney had no idea who this kid that he was facing was. All he knew was his name was Colt, apparently (because names could be faked, right?), and he had a decent head of hair. Oh, and he was taller than the Ravenclaw was. Other things he knew was that his underwear was strangely uncomfortable today, and he was POSITIVE that it was because his mother had agreed for him to do this. He'd actually sent her the permission slip in hopes that she would be as overprotective as she always had been and say no. Then he'd deal with being the kid whose Mama said no and stopped him doing 'fun' things at school.

Right now he was just the kid with the self-inflicted wedgie and people about to watch and laugh at him. Worst. Day. Ever. Plus, he knew who had duelled already and that was the worst feeling ever, because they would be watching. WATCHING. WATCHING. WATCHING.

Was the turn in his stomach sick or was he just completely nervous?

He was going to go with nervous, because he couldn't be the kid that threw up before his first duel. Instead, Rooney waited until he was joined by his opponent before bowing, as he knew was required, and got himself ready which involved taking the needed steps away from his opponent and trying to control his breathing before he actually did throw up or trip or pass out. All were plausible and potential things that could happen in a matter of minutes.

At the end of his five steps, Rooney turned on his heel and moved his wand in accordance with the first spell he was casting. "Colloshoo!" ... Were Colt's shoes stuck yet? Were they? Were they? Had he even done that right? Should he have gone with a spell used more commonly? Whatever.. This was...just a test of his wand and of him and he had totally already forgotten everything that he already knew.

Except the idea of shoe sticking.

Note from Ref:

Sorry these things weren't outlined clearly before....
  • 1) If you are using non-verbal spells, be be advised that they cost an additional -25 magic points on TOP of the cost of using that spell. Please clarify whether a spell is non-verbal or not.

  • 2) If you cast a spell, or try, and it fails for your character (as in YOU RP it not working) point loss still occurs for the attempt to cast (think of the energy a wizard/witch has to expend trying to do magic)

  • 3)Also, don't worry about putting a point tracker at the top of your post. Please just (in the title of your post, put Health, Magic, and Fatigue points at the START of that post (so whatever they were ending at the last post and BEFORE any spells hit or other spells are cast)....

i.e. Post A ends with 20 Health, 5 Magic and 0 Fatigue --> please title post B with the same. (Just makes for easier point tracking :3)

  • 4) Fatigue points are ONLY depleted if you are doing a physical attack or maneuver to defend against an attack. Duelers can move about freely, jump on the spot and so forth, so long as they aren't actively defending against an attack or doing an offensive attack

Colt heard the dueling club was in motion. He was kind of pumped for this but now he needed to know who his opponent was. As he made his way to the arena, he saw a kid that looked familiar. Hmmm he seemed young but he seemed to be his age. Good thing Professor he teamed him up with someone his age. He was kind of nervous that he would pair him up with a seventh year. I mean the seventh year would have a big advantage. As he approached the kid, he nodded and introduced himself, "Hey I am Colt. I have seen you before. What is your name?" he asked. He knew they needed to get their duel on. He nodded and shook his head before they dueled. Good sportsmanship right?

He proceeded to his spot and turned around and saw the kid already raised his wand. Man this kid go to the point. He heard him cast Colloshoo which was the shoe sticking charm. He remembered this one. He felt the spell hit him but it wasn't TOO effective. He felt his feet stick a little bit but not enough to stick him to the ground. Poor kid must have been nervous. He chuckled and unstuck his shoes from the ground. He got into his dueling pose and held his wand out at the ready.

He took a deep breath in and said, "FLIPENDO!" He wondered if it worked.

Rooney knew as soon as he cast his spell that it wouldn't be anything special and it wouldn't throw his opponent off his game or into confusion or anything. He just knew, and the fact that he had been able get back to aiming his wand so quickly actually unsettled Roo more than anything. He swallowed thickly at the exact same time that Colt threw his spell in his direction. The force knocked him off his feet, in the air and onto his back.

The second year groaned, sat up and rubbed the back of his head. Luckily, he hadn't hit it as hard as he could have, so he gave Colt a thumbs up to make sure he knew that he was okay. The ache would go away in a few minutes, he was sure. But there was no permanent damage. Maybe a disturbance in the brain cell region, but nothing that would cause him a problem in doing his homework or--HEY. Or remembering a spell to cast.

THIS WAS A DUEL.

He needed to be on top of his game, and he had probably already wasted too much time thinking about getting up to his feet and was mighty lucky that he hadn't been set on fire or anything. Who knew what the Slytherin was capable of, really?

They all knew that Rooney was pretty rubbish at sticking peoples feet to the floor. By rubbish, he knew he was ridiculously awful at it.

He pointed his wand at Colt, smiled -- something he supposed was bad to do in this situation, but it was just habit -- and watched the red sparks leave his wand. "Herbifors!" Say goodbye to your locks of hair, Colt. Enjoy the yellow bed of flowers that this would create. ........ Was he supposed to actually do something that might scare off Colt? Flowers weren't terrifying, but Rooney had crammed before coming today. He'd crammed to the point of he could only remember the spells he had practiced on a teddy bear in his dorm.

Another Note from Ref:

Still working out the kinks. Here are two important spell updates. If you have already used these spells, don't worry about them, please still follow through as per the previous guidelines/point systems for the spells. If you haven't, and are considering them, these are the new rules for Expelliarmus and Stupefy. See the Q & A thread for more details

SPOILER!!: Expelliarmus
  • Expelliarmus: Disarms the target (of whatever they are holding) and can be used to knock-back a target if cast forcefully enough
    • Caster Points:
      • H: 0
      • M: -10
      • F: 0
    • Opponent Points:
      • H: -15
      • M: -15 (ONLY if spell disarms caster of wand)
      • F: 0
    • Additional Effects: If hit by the spell, victim MUST loose their grip on whatever they are holding. If it is their wand, -15 magic points applies. If their wand is disarmed, the victim can go after it without a cost of loosing fatigue points.

After Blaise Bellaire was knocked-out with a stupefy spell, it has been banned from the club. Reason for this is that the Tournament Duels are supposed to help students practice dueling, and having a K/O isn't the best way to do this. Therefore, Stupefy will be a spell permitted only in practice sessions and Challenges, as per the new point system:

SPOILER!!: Stupefy (NO longer permitted in tournaments)
  • Stupefy: Stuns and knock's-out target
    • Caster Points:
      • H: 0
      • M: -100
      • F: 0
    • Opponent Points:
      • H: -100%
      • M: -100%
      • F: -100%
    • Additional Effects: If hit, the victim will be rendered unconscious. For this reason, it is not permitted in the dueling arena. Only in practice duels and the Challenges.

Colt saw Rooney get blasted off his feet. Oooohhhhh that looked like it hurt. He was smirking with glee. I guess his spell worked after all. He still had his dueling mojo from Durmstrang. He felt bad for the second year versing a guy from Durmstrang but hey you gotta learn sometime right? He was still waiting for the kids next move. He held his wand at the ready though. Constant vigilance. He heard the kid cast his spell and he was ready for this....

"PROTEGO!"

It seemed he blocked the spell though. His hair wasn't affected and he shrugged. Better luck next time kid. He thought of another spell to use off the top of his head. He thought of one and sorry kid but you might hate him. He got his wand out and said...

"Titillando!"

He hoped the spell worked. It should cause Rooney to be really ticklish.

It needed to be common knowledge that Rooney was not overtly pleased with his dueling partner today. In fact, he doubted that he would acknowledge Colt much after this, as he found him to be the type of person he wouldn't want to be around. His ego, or what Rooney had considered to be an ego, was disturbing and the Ravenclaw hardly wanted to associate with that. And that smirk... It infuriated him that he could be so cocky about knocking a twelve year old off his feet. Sure, that was the intention, but this wasn't like they were out in the open and on opposite teams in battle. This was like training, right?

Stupid Slytherin.

He had a deep rooted hate for them, he was sure of it. He was so annoyed about it though, that he was ready for what came next and at the exact same time as Colt cast his stupid spell, Roo shouted his own. "Protego!" It seemed that the anger helped him in casting his shield, as he'd not been able to cast one properly before now, but sure as the light of day...he had now. Something that he would write home himself and tell his parents about. Something that he would SO tell Miss Sophie Brown about as soon as he saw her.

And quick as he had been previously, the Ravenclaw cast once more very soon after, his wand towards the area around Colt's feet with every inch of him wanting and NEEDING it to work. The intention was there, the focus was more than there and hell was he going to walk away today without succeeding with this spell. "Bombarda!!" He would have smirked himself if it was in his character, but instead he stood with his wand still aimed and bouncing eagerly on the balls of his feet.

Ready.

It was almost a pity the kid had put such honest effort and energy into his last spell. It would have been a good one too, no doubt, given the loud pop it made on the shield wall that suddenly grew up between the two boys. Somewhere in the background, the old grandfather clock was letting out it's second toll, a clear sign the duel time had come to an end.

Sabel was there as the wall dissipated in a sprinkle of light. He sent out one golden spark to pop over Colt's head. "Winner, Colt Winchester." Though, Bronwyn got a good grin too. "Good job, lads."

----------------------
OOC: Thanks so much for dueling! It was an awesome read! Duel is now officially over. I will have next pairs up by the end of the Second Meeting
