Spells may be used from the following List. Any spells on this list are not permitted unless approval has been granted.
Physical actions and their costs can be found below:
NOTE: Fatigue points ONLY need to be used when you are physically attacking someone, or avoiding a spell. All other maneuverings around the hall do not need to be accounted for.
Text Cut: Cost of Physical Actions
Roll: 5 pts
Sidestep: 5 pts
Duck: 5 pts
Jump: 5 pts
Dive: 5 pts
Climb: 10 pts
Punch/Kick/Physical Attack OR Defense against physical attack: All points remaining are lost
Physical Inanimate Object Damage: 10 pts
--------------------------------------
A referee (Professor Flamsteed or Dakest) will be assigned to your duel and present. They will only interfere if there is need, including foul play, serious injury or unacceptable or illogical use of spells.
OOC: Each duel must be completed by no later than October 24, midnight GMT-6 (OOC). Remember that a duel ends when one dueler has lost ALL magic or ALL health points. Please make duels a minimum of 3 posts each.
These first duels will be a trail run of sorts. The point system for the spells and physical actions was done by thought and hasn't been tested. You all are the guinea pigs. Let me know how it goes If you find that there are be difficulties in the weight of points, please let me know. If there are spells missing you think should be included, please let me know.
If you have questions, please ask. Also, if for some reason you cannot complete or start your duel, please let both me and your partner know. We will work something out.
Remember: duelers MUST keep track of their own points as they go. At the top of their post (in the tag line) they must include their current standing of points, as they are at the BEGINNING of that post. At the bottom of their post, they must include a 'spoiler' tag, including the spells which they've cast (and the directionallity of the spell, so the opponent can easily reference the potential damage to themselves), the spell(s) that have affected them (if any) and their own final Point Standing for that post.
Sorry these things weren't outlined clearly before....
1) If you are using non-verbal spells, be be advised that they cost an additional -25 magic points on TOP of the cost of using that spell. Please clarify whether a spell is non-verbal or not.
2) If you cast a spell, or try, and it fails for your character (as in YOU RP it not working) point loss still occurs for the attempt to cast (think of the energy a wizard/witch has to expend trying to do magic)
3)Also, don't worry about putting a point tracker at the top of your post. Please just (in the title of your post, put Health, Magic, and Fatigue points at the START of that post (so whatever they were ending at the last post and BEFORE any spells hit or other spells are cast)....
i.e. Post A ends with 20 Health, 5 Magic and 0 Fatigue --> please title post B with the same. (Just makes for easier point tracking :3)
4) Fatigue points are ONLY depleted if you are doing a physical attack or maneuver to defend against an attack. Duelers can move about freely, jump on the spot and so forth, so long as they aren't actively defending against an attack or doing an offensive attack
Another Note from Ref:
Still working out the kinks. Here are two important spell updates. If you have already used these spells, don't worry about them, please still follow through as per the previous guidelines/point systems for the spells. If you haven't, and are considering them, these are the new rules for Expelliarmus and Stupefy. See the Q & A thread for more details
SPOILER!!: Expelliarmus
Expelliarmus:Disarms the target (of whatever they are holding) and can be used to knock-back a target if cast forcefully enough
Caster Points:
H: 0
M: -10
F: 0
Opponent Points:
H: -15
M: -15 (ONLY if spell disarms caster of wand)
F: 0
Additional Effects: If hit by the spell, victim MUST loose their grip on whatever they are holding. If it is their wand, -15 magic points applies. If their wand is disarmed, the victim can go after it without a cost of loosing fatigue points.
After Blaise Bellaire was knocked-out with a stupefy spell, it has been banned from the club. Reason for this is that the Tournament Duels are supposed to help students practice dueling, and having a K/O isn't the best way to do this. Therefore, Stupefy will be a spell permitted only in practice sessions and Challenges, as per the new point system:
SPOILER!!: Stupefy (NO longer permitted in tournaments)
Stupefy:Stuns and knock's-out target
Caster Points:
H: 0
M: -100
F: 0
Opponent Points:
H: -100%
M: -100%
F: -100%
Additional Effects: If hit, the victim will be rendered unconscious. For this reason, it is not permitted in the dueling arena. Only in practice duels and the Challenges.

Okay, okay...Owen was not entitled to be nervous or scared considering the difference in size between him and his opponent!friend but but but he WAS nervous...and scared. This was the first time he was really going to duel and for a muggleborn like him, that alone tugged on all the nerves.
But hey, he joined the Dueling Club because of that exact reason. He didn't grow up with magic so why not invest himself in all magic-related things in order to adapt faster? Anyway, that brought him here today...facing his Slytherin friend. "Good luck to both of us, mate." He grinned nervously, bowed, took a few steps back and posed to attack...or defend himself? He wasn't sure yet. Eeek. Don't hotwire on me now, brain.

Phillip had expected this to be the COOLEST CLUB EVER. He'd expected it to be a club full of ACTION and EPIC DUELS and one where he would be tested but he'd come out undefeated.
What he DIDN'T expect was to be standing face to face with a friend. That's right, a FRIEND. He was expected to duel someone he got along with.
HOW WAS HE MEANT TO DO THAT, EH DAKEST?
The first year shifted uncomfortably before shooting a small smile at his opponent. To be honest, if this was a duel of size, Phillip was done for. He was T I N Y while Owen was, well, bigger. The way Phillip saw it, that gave the Hufflepuff an advantage over the Slytherin and this Slytherin did NOT like the sound of that one bit, okay?
But the duel. Concentrate, Romalotti.
"Yeah, good luck, Owen. No hard feelings, yeah?" Just in case, you know. He also bowed and poised himself in a position where he could best defend himself. That was his strategy: defend more and attack when he felt that Owen was feeling weak.
What? He had to win, okay?
Your move, Montezor.

Owen just nodded, gripping his wand tighter. He could do this. He had been practicing ever since he got his wand so he got this covered. It would make his mama proud if he won.
Deciding to make the first move, the young Hufflepuff concentrated. Okay, Owen... just like when you and Milo practiced it. The Ravenclaw had taught him how to perfect the Aguamenti spell but because both of them wanted to learn more, they decided to upgrade their water-producing spell works. It's come in real handy now.
Waving his wand, Owen casted, "Aqua Eructo!" From the tip of his wand came a jet of water that he pointed towards his opponent!friend. Sorry if I ever get you wet, Phillip! He wanted to say but was too focused on keeping the jet of water under control.

Phillip was going to take that nod to mean a good thing. Which meant that he wouldn't need to feel bad if he hurt the guy in any way. AND it meant that he could go ahead with this duel as if he was facing someone he didn't like. Meaning, that he could cast whatever spell he wanted and not be held back by, you know, the bonds of friendship.
EXCELLENT.
(not that Phillip knew any dangerous spells ANYWAYS)
The first year was starting to feel more and more nervous as time ticked by. Come ON, Owen. Make you first move, already! As it was, the Slytherin was already chewing at his lip but before long, he was going to start twitching from nervousness and THEN let his guard down and get dis--

HOLY MOTHER OF.
Was that a......... WAS THAT A JET OF WATER?! It could be worse, sure, but it was a JET of water. Directed right towards HIM. Phillip found himself rooted to the spot out of shock and staring out at the oncoming water. MER-LIN. Where had Owen learnt to do THAT?!
"AAAAAAAAAAARGH!"
OOMPH!
The water hit him squarely in the chest and the boy found himself thrown backwards and onto the floor where he landed bottom-first. Uh, OW! And to make it worse, he was now dripping wet! Look at his soaked clothes and his damp hair. WET. And he was going to start feeling COLD soon enough.
Shaking the water out of his hair, Phillip got up again and directed his wand straight towards Owen's legs. "Locomotor Wibbly!"

WHOA! Sweet chocolate frogs! It worked! It actually worked. He had to tell Milo, he had to tell his friend that he used the spell they have been practicing on a duel and it was so awesome. Owen was grinning wide, internally patting his back for a good execution, but was immediately replaced by a look of concern for his friend who had sailed backwards to the floor, creating a small puddle. He was also wet now. Oops. "Are you..." Owen was about to ask his opponent!friend if he was okay. A mistake. They were dueling which meant who should not have let his guard down. It was his fault he didn't have enough time to dodge the spell that Phillip fired at his legs.
Locomotor Wibbly?
ACK!
It hit his legs, turning them into jelly and making them shake and the next thing Owen knew he was on the floor with his legs not adhering to his bodily instruction. What to do? What to do? He was panicking. Where was his wand? There...there...he was still holding it. He looked at his opponent!friend, directed his wand towards him and said the first spell that crossed his mind, "Digitus Wibbly!"
...Ugh, this doesn't feel good. The sensation that the Jelly Legs Curse had on his legs was SO weird and it made Owen very uncomfortable that he quickly went about to getting it off. With a "Finite," the Hufflepuff sighed a breath of relief as the normal sensation on his legs returned. That was much better.
But, uh...how did his spell go?

Phillip only vaaaaaguely heard the words 'are you' as he was, you know, concentrating on the fact that he was resembling a giant wet MONSTER. Or that's what it seemed like since his clothes were starting to feel MUCH heavier. RIDICULOUSLY heavy, even, dramatics included. He splish sploshed around in the puddle by his feet as he watched his spell take effect on Owen.
Uh. Was it bad that he found it kind of funny?
The guy's legs were JELLY! It was like seeing a toddler struggling to stand up but, you know, WORSE. He clapped a hand over his mouth as he watched the boy struggling and was laying down on the floor! MER-LIN! Was the spell meant to be THAT effective? Maybe he should keep a note of this one for future duels. Effective, it wa--
Digitus Wibbly? WHAT did Digitus Wibbly DO?!
Phillip was left STARING as the spell hit him at full force and, before he knew it, his fingers were doing something weird. He glanced over at Owen with wide eyes and then went back to looking down at his fingers that didn't seem to WORK as fingers SHOULD. Try as he might, they wouldn't hold onto his wand! AT ALL. What was this MAGIC?
Splutters left the first year's mouth as he tried his HARDEST to grip onto the wand in his hand. A lot of concentration was taking place here, probably more than he'd used on previous tests. But he had to cast a spell. Just HAD to. The duel wasn't over yet, you know.
So, gripping his right hand and the wand with his left hand, the Slytherin aimed his wand straight for Owen's stomach, since it would be the most effective THERE. "Rictusempra!"

It worked? ...It worked! Ha! Ha! Hoorah! For some wonderful reason his spell-work was being cooperative with him today. It worked too perfect that Owen had to tightly keep his lips together in effort just so he would not burst out laughing at his opponent!friend's obvious struggle. A few bouts of laughter still escaped though.
But he had to admit. He had an amazing friend because despite being unable to hold on to his wand comfortably, he was still able to fire off a spell. Owen was ready for that though, being that he was standing now and posed all ready. So when Phillip cast the Tickling Charm, the Hufflepuff immediately sidestepped.
Big step to the right!
Thus, dodging the spell. Then he pivoted and aimed.
...
"Tarantallegra!" ... But his wand just delivered spurts of light like the many times he cast a spell that failed to go through. Ughhh. Noooo, it did not work. It looked like he had praised his spell-work way too early. "Oiii..." He struck his wand against his palm a few times until he was satisfied. Okay, again, again... Concentrating hard, Owen swished his wand, "Ta-RON-ta-LEG-gra!" This time a steady green light emerged from the tip of his wand and shot towards Phillip's legs.

Phillip's jaw dropped.
Dropped.
D R O P P E D.
Why? Because Owen had avoided the spell! That's right, AVOIDED it. Completely. It was as if the guy knew exactly when the Slytherin was planning on attacking. UH, wasn't HE meant to be the cunning one here? That's what the sorting hat had said, right? So when had Owen gotten so good at being strategic? HMM? What was the boy hiding, exactly?
The innocent ones. It was always them.
And the following move was so well planned, so controlled, so E P I C, that the fellow first year was left staring. "How did you--"
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! "The pivot was cool, that was NOT." AHAHAHA! Spell fails. Way to ruin the mo--
And then the laughter stopped as soon as it had started at the sight of the green light. Phillip was confused, to be honest, be he almost expected to be knocked over but, instead, he was starting to feel a twitching sensation along his legs. His muscles seemed to be moving without him moving them but only along his legs. The rest of his body was still as a statue but his legs were moving faster and faster..............
Yep. Phillip Romalotti was DANCING. MER-LIN.
"Noooooooooo!" he whispered loudly, frankly SHOCKED at the sight of his legs and feet now looking like they were tap dancing. He didn't DANCE. At least, not PROPERLY. Where had Owen found out this weakness from?! HUH? EXPLAIN!
Uh. What was that spell again? The one that stopped a spell? Uh......... UH. Finish? F..... f......... FINITE! Yes, THAT was the one. "Finite!" he cast on his legs. There. Now that he had, well, saved his legs and himself from embarrassment -- TAP DANCING, you know -- he could concentrate on attacking the opponent.
Montezor. You. Yes, you. You're in for it now!

"Ohohoho! Holy toblerones!" Holy toblerones, indeed! Phillip was dancing...in a very uncoordinated manner that made him look like he literally had two left foot, or that he was very much fascinated by a flying something that he had to keep his nose facing its way as it whirled and whirled around him.
It was funny.
No. It was hilarious.
Owen was laughing, clutching at his stomach because his opponent!friend was good entertainment. HAHAHA. Way to show 'em how to do it, mate! He was just starting to catch his breath when Phillip had finite'd his spell and was more focused on getting himself to calm down that he completely missed that he had unintentionally given his opponent!friend a great window of opportunity for he had left himself open to any incoming spells.
Which was exactly what happened.
He saw the spark coming from the tip of Phillip's wand before he heard the spell.
Slugulus Eructo? Slugulus Eructo?! OH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO... It was too late to defend himself. The spell hit him and he froze, eyes wide. Noooooooooooo. He was feeling weird. Very weird. And soon after a few seconds, as the spell suggested, Owen Thyago Montezor had began to vomit slugs.
Ew, ew, ew, ew, ew, ew, ew.
At that point, he had dropped his wand and was using both of his hands to throw away the slugs that he was throwing up.
SO. GROSS. SO. SLIMY. SO. EWWWWWWWW.

Well, that looked like a rather uncomfortable way to go out on a duel. The kid had his sympathy, as well as a paper bag if he could find it.
Pushing away from the wall, Sabel walked to the two duelers, this time trying for Flamsteed's little firework display. The little orb of light more popped, than exploded, over Romalotti's head. "Victory goes to Phillip Romalotti! A job well done."
As for the slug vomiting, Sabel cast a quick finite on the boy, and then cautiously put his hand on his shoulder to steady him, doing well to keep hand and arm out of the way of any last slug worming its way up and out.
"Deep breath, lad. You've both done well."
