As you take your first step into the history of magic classroom on this march afternoon you notice just how dark it is. The only light comes from the setting sun that filters in through the windows and the burning coal in the few cauldrons scattered around the room for heat and a lamp on the professor's desk. Carefully navigate yourself into the dark classroom and to an empty desk without injuring yourself or your peers. The desk setting in pairs of three in a slightly misaligned order that leads up to the professor desk as well as the black board and on the wall to the left of the blackboard a large floor to ceiling book case hasn't changed since your last visit to the Grey Lady's classroom. The air in the room is as crisp and cold as ever, maybe even a little on the harsher side.
Professor Helena is nowhere in sight, but she'll be along shortly.

Dark. The classroom was dark. Well, it kinda was but this lack of a lot of light meant Adi could go spectacle free. He stowed the thing carefully in his pocket, his brown eyes trying to adjust to the room. He could not see Professor Ghostie Helena anywhere so he just made his way to one of the desks at the front of the class, taking care not to injure himself on any of the furniture.
The Hufflepuff flopped on to a seat as he enjoyed the cold air. The cold weather rocked! Also, was he the only one here so far? Hmmm. Maybe he was just a bit too eager for the class. He couldn't help it though. Not when the class was being taught by a ghost.

Dark. Dark and cold.
Hady didn't mind one bit the coldness that seemed to seep through her robes this afternoon. She was far more used to it then some others and happened to enjoy the cold normally.
It was the darkness that struck her as a bit odd. With a hand resting near her wand she slowly made her way into the room trailing her finger tips of her free hand (the one not near her wand) over the desk tops. This serve as a way to not topple over a chair or into someone. Selecting a seat she slipped down into it setting her bag near her feet and gave a wave to Adi. Were they the only two here so far?

Jet had to wait a few seconds until her eyes started to get used to the darkness in the room. She wasn't expecting to be this early, but she walked in anyway, glancing at the other people who were already there, giving them the tiniest smile in acknowledgement. They probably couldn't see it, but she didn't mind.
The professor didn't seem to be there yet, so Jet carefully and quietly walked towards one of the walls and took a seat in that area.

UH, WHAT HAPPENED TO ALL THE LIGHTS??
Phillip stood by the door, staring around at his surroundings and, uh, trying to make sense of it all. There were desks, sure, and a lantern and what looked like........ cauldrons? CAULDRONS?! Whut? This WAS History of Magic, right? There were people here, but YOU NEVER KNOW.
The boy slowly made his way through the classroom, casting suspicious glances around at everyone and everything. After a hip!bump on the edge of a desk -- OWWWWWWWWW! -- the first year held his arms out in front of him as he walked, just so that he could feel where he's going. If the lights were on, he would've looked like a wide-eyed zombie-wannabe, just minus the blood.
Once he found an empty seat, Phillip happily plopped himself down. Thank M E R L I N he hadn't accidentally touched someone's lap in his search for a seat. Talk about AWKWARD. And what was even MORE awkward was that, as far as he could tell, Professor Ghost Lady wasn't here.

Hey, who turned off the lights?
The cold Olly was used to by now. That's how it always was in History of Magic lessons. Was it a ghost thing? He didn't want to say anything for fear of being rude. But the darkness was new. How was he supposed to see anybody? Or, more importantly, his seat? At least it wasn't pitch black. He could see well enough not to run into anything. But still, he took the first seat available and sat down. He did not want to have to walk around in the dark room any longer than necessary.

Syah gingerly walked into the dark room and squinted her golden eyes to see if they would be able to adjust! There didn't seem to be many people in here yet, which was good! Less people for her to trip over!
She wrapped her robe as tightly as she could around her and slowly tipped toes inside..
She found a seat after only stumbling once!
Woo hoo for her! She looked around and smiled at the other kids.. Though really who knew if they could see her!

... Who turned out the lights?
Uhum.
Weird.
Zander took reluctant steps into the classroom, looking around skeptically all the while. What was going on here and why in Merlin's name was it so dark?? Also... cauldrons? Zander hadn't read anything about a joint lesson, so hopefully this wasn't one of those. Could've sworn he actually read the noticeboard this time.
Errrr also Professor no where in sight?
... Interesting.
The Head Boy was very confused, but uh, he took a seat near the middle of the room deciding it was the best place to sit whilst he waited for something spooky to happen apparently. Also it was still cold. Something had to be done about this.

Hellloooooo darkness. Norah squinted in the sudden lack of light as she entered the classroom, swiveling her head around in search of the Professor. She wasn't entirely sure if the Gray Lady really wasn't there or if her eyes just couldn't make her out in the darkness, but she gave up on her search when she took a step forward and banged her knee on a chair. Maybe sitting would be a good idea.
She felt around with her hands to make sure there really was a chair there, then parked her bum at the edge of the seat before she could do any further damage. WHEN had it gotten so cold in here?

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE LIGHTS???
The cold didn't bother Paulina anymore because she had gotten used to it, but not being able to see was a bit of a problem. She'd just have to wait until her eyes adapted to the darkness. She probably looked silly standing there, but no one would be able to see her anyway.
Once she could see well enough, Paulina made her way over to a seat. Hopefully Professor Helena would be here soon... and could turn on the light.

The cold he was getting used to, even if he wasn't a fan. Cold and Benny were in an awlward relationship. However it was expected with a ghost for a a professor. There was some give-ups involved in halfing that interesting priviledge and so far the lessons had been worth it. However that didn't mean the seventh year was expecting the dark of the classroom when he actually entered the classroom.
Benny caused just inside to allow himself a few moments to adjust to the challenging lighting to perhaps be able to see better before actually moving further inside. Something told him by the reactions of the other students that he wasn't the only one at least slightly taken aback. He picked his way cautiously through classmates like Paulina and Zander giving them each a polite greeting, and desks until he came to the familiar form of Adi.

Huuuuuuuh?
Did the Grey Lady forget they had class now? Zeke stood idle in the doorway, his eyes attempting to penetrate the darkness, and failing. His hand grappled on the wall beside the door, searching for a switch... but there was none. Duh. There WAS enough light for him to make out some vague shapes, and he COULD navigate the room without much difficulty. But he was all for the easy way out on this one.
Casting "Lumos," Zeke waved his wand light in front of him as he made his way very successfully to his desk without bumping into anything or anyone, no tripping over his feet, there were no breakages or awkward moments. "Howdy, all," he greeted his peers that were present. Once he was settled, he extinguished his wand light with "Nox."
It felt strange to be back in the HoM classroom, after he had worked so hard to avoid it. But this was his opportunity to 'make amends' and he wasn't going to give up.

Stepping inside the History of Magic classroom, the first thing Brooklyn did was stop in her tracks. It was dark. Not pitch black, but still dark. Dark enough she couldn’t really tell who was there already, which was another reason she stayed by the door for a few more seconds. She wouldn’t want to accidentally sit next to someone unbearable, especially not when it appeared as if the Grey Lady wasn’t there yet to defuse any situations. She wasn’t entirely certain the ghost couldn’t just go invisible, but she resisted trying to cast a revealing spell. Besides, she didn’t know if it would work on ghost people.
Luckily, a flicker of light from the coals in a cauldron let her catch a glimpse of a green streak, so she started making her way in that direction. Hady she knew she could handle, and even if Zeke was nearby she could tolerate that too. For that matter, even Maggie had gotten a bit more tolerable, after that Transfiguration lesson last term when they’d attempted to work together. It seemed the best direction to head in out of any, and she made it to a desk near her housemate relatively unscathed. Her eyesight had adjusted enough that she hadn’t ran into any of the other desks anyhow. So it was a success in her eyes.

Henric walked into the dark classroom, carefully navigating his way to the back of the class. The ghost of Ravenclaw and history of magic professor was nowhere in sight, he wondered when she would be arriving soon? He guessed she would pop in somewhere they would least expected it. Wasn't Moaning Myrtle famous at it especially in the boys bathroom? Henric chuckled to himself before placing his bum on his usual seat. He took out his necessary parchments and his handy-dandy quill to lay it rest on his table. But, could he really write down notes in this darkness? Huh.

It's so dark in here.
That was her first impression when she stepped in to the classroom. And also, was it just her feeling or this place was also colder? So quiet, dark and cold. Not to mention that this class was taught by a ghost. Ooooh, seriously she's gonna fell asleep in the class if the atmosphere was like this.
Casting the lumos charm, the young lioness looked around and it seemed like some people were already here. Good. Thought that she was the first person here. The ghost professor was nowhere in this classroom. Oh, maybe she went to have a bathroom break or something. She took a seat at the back row and.... wait.

Floating into the dark classroom, she glowed in a pale eerie light as she made her way up to her desk in front of the blackboard. With a small in audible snap of her fingers Helena turned on the lights in the room thinking that she was early and that the students had yet to arrive. It took all her practice as a lady to not yelp out in surprise. Instead she smiled faintly out, at the already assembled students saying. "Ah, how good of you to be here early for class. It's always better to be too early then to be late don't you think?"

Angel was running late, she was running late... she was never running late but she had been distracted in the library and now she was sure she was going to get into trouble, she slowed down as she got to the History of Magic classroom and then she heard the professor say that she would wait a few minutes more, well that was good, boy why did she think she was running so late.
"Hi Professor." Angel smiled as she walked into the classroom. "Hope your okay." Angel was now trying to figure out why it was cold, but since she was used to ice-skating and doing things like that this was just normal, maybe that was what they would be learning about but she thought that would be muggle studies if they did, anyway for now she would go find her seat and wait for the lesson to start.

Next thing he knew... Professor Helena was here, and apparently they weren't having a lesson in the dark. That was good news. He didn't much mind waiting for the others, and he didn't mind the cold. He was about as content as he could be in a class he wasn't thrilled about.
"Hello, Professor," he replied politely before considering her question. Was he in trouble already? .... "I did, it just made sense to do so."
While he waited, Zeke removed his notebook and text from his bag. Here he was, making an effort.
Norah smiled at the Gray Lady, though she wasn't entirely sure if the ghost could see that. Could ghosts see in the dark? Was that a thing? She nodded quickly, then added "Yes Miss," just in case the Professor really couldn't see her, then bent down to rummage through her bag in search of one of her potions stir sticks. This bit was a lot harder in the dark, but at least there was a bit more light from all the other folks who'd started helping her.
Norah pulled out the stick and walked slowly to one of the cauldrons, stirring the coals around until she could feel more heat coming off of them. Good. This was good. She moved around the room and stirred the coal in the other cauldrons until they were all glowing with heat and her stir stick had made her hand awfully hot. It was better than being cold, though, so she had no complaints. Taking her seat again, she used the new light to find her note taking supplies and place them on her desk. ALL READY.

Was that Hady? Adi squinted at the silhouette that had entered the room after him. It sure was! He waved back happily at her then turned his attention back to the students trickling in. Know what he was doing? Making a game out of the approaching students and trying to guess who they were. Hehe. Zander... Polly... Owen (it was easy to guess it was him) and Benny! That silhouette was one Adi would recognise ANYWHERE!
"Hi, dragon! Give us some light with your fiery breath,'' Adi teased. He gave Benny's hand a quick squeeze. Hey, it was dark so no one should really notice. But he had just pulled back his hand when Professor Helena arrived. He grinned at his favourite ghost. "Hello, Professor. Not too bad, thank you for asking. Just lots of planning going on right about now.'' Yes, this was true. "Looking forward to your lesson.'' Also true.

When the Grey Lady deemed that it was time to start the lesson she cleared her throat to get the student's attention as she floated a little closer to the first row of desks and she let her voice rung out through the room a small smile pursing her lips. "Welcome back everyone! Today's lesson is going to be about ghosts." Adjusting her dress and placing her transparent hands in her lap, Professor Helena continued her pale green eyes flowing over the assembled students. "Before we dig deeper into the subject of ghosts can someone please tell me what the definition of a ghost is in their own words? And also what the difference is between a ghost and a poltergeist." It was prudent to get everyone on the same page from the start. It made the whole lesson easier.
OOC: Class has now officially started! You're most welcome to jump into the lesson at anytime, just don't post arriving late. The classroom's lamps are now LIT so everyone can see clearly.

Early? Olly was not usually early to things. It seemed more likely to him that the grey lady/ghost professor was just late. And she didn't want to admit it. And THEN she was asking him why he was so far back when it had been her fault the lights weren't on so he couldn't really see where he was going. That was kind of rude. And he was not going to move closer to the front thank you very much.
But he would answer her question. It seemed easy enough so Olly raised his hand. "A ghost is someone who died but their spirit is back. Not like a zombie or an inferi though, they don't have a body. You can see through them. And they still maintain full brain power. Why was she asking them? She was literally a ghost. "And they maintain all of their beauty." Cue smile.
Norah's eyebrows went up. Ghosts? It did make sense, considering that the Professor WAS a ghost and all that, but was that a history of magic thing? Now that she thought of it, there really wasn't any other class to teach about them in. They were people who lived a long time ago, after all. Who could be better at talking about the past than somebody who had lived then? Nobody, that's who. Maybe they'd get to learn all about the Grey Lady's story! She'd heard it was a dramatic one, but she'd never bothered to read up on all the specific details. There was a reason why she only read plant books instead of history ones.
She put a hand in the air with a small smile in the Grey Lady's direction. This had to be a fun lesson for her, considering she was an expert on the topic. Probably.
