Herbology Lesson II - Gravity Resistant Trees Since it was April, the weather outside was quite nice. The subtle wind was enough to refresh on a particularly sunny day. It wasn’t too hot. It felt pleasant inside Greenhouse Three, and Paul was sitting atop the table in front of the room. He was seated in the lotus position, his eyes were closed, and he hummed softly to himself, waiting for the students to enter. OOC: Hi guys! Make sure you are familiar with our rules and adhere to the SS rules as well. SPOILER!!: Classroom Updates |
"Hello Professor Myers," Davie greeted dully, coming in to what was usually one of his favorite subjects and taking a seat. He didn't feel much like meditating, and he didn't feel like giving a flower to anyone who touched him today, and instead he felt like punching anyone who tried to touch him, but he sat down in the circle anyway. He pulled his knees to his chest and rested his arms around them, just kinda quietly sitting and... stewing. Cool trees though. Were those aerial roots? |

"Hello Profes--" It was interrupted by: "OH COOL! Gravity resistant trees! CAN WE CLIMB THEM? Can we RACE them? CAN WE all GET ON them and SEE how many of us can fit before they TIP OVER?!" Oh my goodness! Oh my gosh! Who could possibly meditate when there were floating trees in their midst? Floating trees with SO MUCH POTENTIAL!? Her excitement however, was not enough to completely distract her from her bestie being so.... so. So her attention went from exciting trees to unexcited Davie. ... and she pulled a silly face at him. Okay? Be okay! |
Quote:
He let out a bit of a sigh at Char's silly face, but after a moment, poked his tongue at at her. Okay? He was okay. |
Quote:
She BEAMED at him when he poked his tongue out.Why was Davie being angsty? She didn't know but Char made sure to stay close because if ANYONE GAVE HER BEST A HARD TIME she would.... she would.... .... welll she didn't know what, but she would do SOMETHING fierce! Yeah! And she would ask him why he was sad later. Maybe someone died? He'd probably be sadder if someone died. Or if Gingersnapple died. OMG WHAT IF GINGERSNAPPLE DIED? No he'd definitely be sadder, right? |
Well that was a little surprising that they did not have to compliment anyone. Though maybe it was wise because it could have been worse than what Kaycee had said that time. Though Dante would still try and not be part of that give flowers to whoever touches him. Good Luck touching him with his cold stare going on right now. "Hey Professor Myers. Are these the trees you were talking about that time" And great getting into a mediation circle with first years. Just his luck |
Mentions of Dante "Good morning Profess-"Henric greeted as he walked into the greenhouse but stopped short when he noticed the big floating tree in the middle of the class."Woah...nice..."he grinned before taking a flower to the boy named Dante."Hey buddy...here you go,you're kind of cool." He winked before passing him by and sat with the others. He closed his eyes to prepare for the routine meditation. |
Herbology time. Janelle arrived at the greenhouse hoping that her green thumb was working today. As she entered, two things struck her immediately. The professor was sitting on the table and there were trees floating about the greenhouse. Now that was something you didn't see every day. "Hello Professor Myers", Janelle said. "You're looking very zen today. Cool trees, by the way." She hoped that she hadn't upset his meditation groove with her comments. Hopefully not. Setting her bookbag to the side, Janelle walked over to join the circle. Taking a few deep breaths, she tried to get her mind ready for the lesson. This was going to be very interesting. |
Oh to be out of doors, even for a lesson, and have it be warm out. Thankfully Spring had been sprung and the weather was more to Benny's liking. He made his way down to the grounds and out towards the greenhouses where the latest herbology lesson was scheduled to take place. The seventh had stepped into the appropriate one to find the professor, a few students...mostly firsties... and a handful of trees currently floating around the glass-walled room. Woah...very coool. "Good day, Professor," he greeted as he moved to drop of his satchel to safe location as directed before moving into the circle they usually formed. Alright...no compliments...made things easier at times. And he had yet to give any flowers to anyone so that part really didn't matter. But for now he was just going to remain quiet and wait for class to begin as more and more students were bound to arrive. Preferably ones that didn't make him feel like the old foggie besides the professor. |
TIME FOR HER FAVOURITE CLASS! Paulina was excited as she made her way to the greenhouse. "Hello, Professor!" Whoooooa, there were FLOATING trees. She had seen many things in greenhouses, but that was not one of them. It was super cool! "I like your trees," she said as she admired them for a moment before joining the meditation circle. She was ready to get started. |
Dot hadn't forgotten that she was rubbish at Herbology, nor that she was spending long hours cramming for her OWLs in the class to make up for the fact that she didn't want to put her hands in dirt. But she also hadn't forgotten that the professor was exceedingly kind to her when she didn't think she deserved much kindness. So much so that she snagged a flower on her way into the greenhouse and deposited it in front of the professor. "Good day to you, Professor." She gave him a shy, embarrassed little smile before scurrying to find a work station. |
Herbology. Finally its time for her FAVORITE class. She wondered what kind of lesson Professor Myers prepared for them today. Maybe they will play with dirt and poop again? Nah. Probably not. When Candice entered the greenhouse, the first thing she noticed was the tress. They're floating in midair. WOAH! Where did the Professor get those trees? Can she have one? "Hello, Professor. How are you?" She greeted the Professor after she dropped her things and got into the circle for meditation. "And cool tress." |
"Loooovely day today, Professor," Norah said as she entered the greenhouse. She beamed at the trees, who were also looking quite lovely, then parked herself beside Dot, all ready for some meditation. "Your hair looks absolutely fantastic." Even if they didn't have to give compliments they were still ALLOWED to, right? Professor Myers was a cool dude. It had to still be allowed. Plus, Dot's hair DID look fantastic (didn't it always?) so it was very necessary. Who could argue with that? |
Zander walked right into the greenhouse, took one look at a meditating Myers, and walked right out. Merlin, please don't make him do this. Zander Adair had been excelling at Herbology for the past six years of his life and no time in those past six years had he ever been forced to do meditations for it. This was starting to get real old. There were only a few months of school left, did he really have to humor Myers for any longer? Couldn't they just call it a day? S i g h. It was almost worse than the snapping in Morgan's class. Only a few more weeks, he gently reminded himself. And with that, Zander Adair walked right back into the Greenhouse, this time giving Myers a small nod. "Hello Professor," we're gonna pretend not to notice the fact that your seated posture is utterly weird. Because that's the type of person we are. Ahem. And what was with it with the massive trees? |
Shuffle, shuffle, shuffle! It was a GREAT day to be happy. Hehe. All the days were good to be happy though. "Hi, Professor!'' Oh, look! FLOATY TREES! COOL! "Nice trees you've got there!'' Mhmm. Adi drew his attention to the students there already after depositing his bag. Dante, Janelle, Dot, Polly and Henric were among those that got a cheerful grin as the Hufflepuff made his way over to his boyfriend. "Heya, Dragon!'' Benny got the biggest grin out of the ones he had given so far. Anyway, were they getting started soon? |
Considerably less pep in her step than usual, Sophie Brown entered the greenhouse, took a moment of hesitation to survey the room at large curiously, then made a beeline for Zander to join him for their meditations and delicately entwined her fingers with his. That was the best part about their meditation time. They were always instructed to hold hands, and Soph held Zander's tightly for support and stabilization, like if she let go, he'd disappear. Was she going to have to let go at some point? "Cool trees, professor," was her choice of greeting to Myers with a tiny trace of a smile. Uncharacteristically, nothing more than that, though. Just... yeah, cool trees. |
While she still felt like the new rules around school were completely silly, Brooklyn hadn’t felt like dropping her classes yet. Therefore, she’d headed down to Greenhouse Three along with the others for the next Herbology lesson, not really trying to think of any compliments or anything as she walked. She certainly hadn’t minded the handful she’d gotten over the lessons, but it still wasn’t a habit of hers to actually compliment people when it wasn’t necessary. “Good day, Professor,” she said politely as she’d entered the greenhouse, looking at him suspiciously yet also curiously at his position seated on the table. It reminded her of when she was trying to avoid spiders in the Great Hall last term, but she held back from mentioning that. Instead, she just went over to take a spot in the circle nearest Dante and Dot, dropping her things at a workstation on the way. She’d sort of acknowledged Norah and Benny, too, but that was about all. She’d just stick with her housemates, at least until Hady arrived. Granted, that was still sticking with her housemates, but she still decided it was different. That and she ignored the flowers. The trees floating around got a brief look, more to tell them not to float over near her than anything else. She’d rather not have a tree collide with her. |
She was here. Here and on time as normal. Entering the Greenhouse behind the others she couldn't help but take notice to the floating trees. It held her interest for barely a moment before Hady continued onward into the room. Nothing seemed to amaze her much anymore though she was a bit curious as to 'why' these trees were floating about. "Hello Professor," she greeted quietly finding herself a spot to put down her bag before silently joining the circle for meditation. Nothing really needed to be said to anyone so she kept quiet even if her eyes wandered about checking out who was here and who wasn't. |
He still wasn't sure he liked Professor Myers. The man was all sorts of weird. Nevertheless, the subject might prove itself useful for him in the future and so here he was, ready to give the lesson 110% and more... even more... Entering greenhouse three, Zeke joined his peers in the circle for meditation, noting that compliments weren't necessary this lesson. Thank goodness. As for flowers for touching, there was only ONE person that would get flowers from him this lesson, or during any lesson really. He remained silent, offering no greeting beyond head nods, but his eyes were glued to the trees. |
What do you know...Paulina was close behind him. "Hey," Benny greeted her a smile. So he wasn't being totally quiet. He noticed Zander come in...twice...as his eyes wandered while gathering himself. Just what was up with his dormmate and friend? 7th year troubles...or something more? But he wasn't prying here and both their other halves had arrived so his attention wandered back to the badger now standing beside him. "Hey Hippogriff," he greeted with a smile reserved for his best friend. |
SPOILER!!: Davie “HELLOOO there, David!” Paul hadn’t opened his eyes, but he did wave in the direction of the boy’s voice. “I hope you are marvelous today!” Indeed, he did. SPOILER!!: Char And the general chatter from David and Charlotte was pleasing to Paul’s ears. They are adorable little boogers. “Well, Ms. Kettleburn...I have something planned for these trees, indeed. We’ll get to all that, I promise you.” He smiled and chortled a little. Precious. SPOILER!!: Dante Paul nodded, eyes still firmly shut as he controlled his breathing.[B] “Yes, Mr. Barrington, these are...those trees I mentioned in my office back in the beginning of the year.”[B] He grinned. It had taken THIS LONG for them to come in. SPOILER!!: Henric Hehehe. Was that nice about the trees? Paul quite liked them, too. “Hello to you, Henric. Lovely day today.” He has his hands on his knees, palms up. SPOILER!!: Janelle Heh. Zen exactly, Miss Guidry. “I thank you, Janelle. I am feeling very relaxed and ready to teach you all some FASCINATING things about these extremely cool trees, as you pointed out.” He opened one eye at her and smirked before closing it open. SPOILER!!: Benny The calm tones of Mr. Atreyu. Ahh. Paul nodded in his direction. “And to you, Benny. I hope you’re having a good day as well, m’boy.” He wish he had his banjo. He wanted to play some tunes. SPOILER!!: Paulina Of course she liked the trees! They seemed to be such a big hit so far. It warmed Paul’s enormous heart. “Miss Holiday! Lovely to hear you.” He grinned, thinking himself absolutely h i l a r i o u s...since he was still meditating with his eyes closed...and couldn’t exactly SEE anyone! SPOILER!!: Dot Oh! He felt that. He opened his eyes to peer down at the flower, and smiled SO broadly...he tucked the flower behind his ear and felt his eyes tear up...oh he was so touched! His hand rested over his heart. “Thank you and good day, Dot…” SPOILER!!: Candice COOL TREES. “I’m wonderful.” He was done meditating, but he stayed in the lotus position. “How are you, Miss Messer?” he asked in his soft-spoken voice. “And thank you…” he loved those trees. Newest addition to Greenhouse Three! SPOILER!!: Norah “It is, Norah. It’s a lovely day for Herbology.” He smiled in a relaxed way at the hufflepuff. And she was being nice to Dot...good. Girl could use some niceness. He didn’t even know why he thought that. He could just tell. Dot needed love. Mhmm. SPOILER!!: Zander pls Paul saw that. He did. But he merely thought the boy had gotten sick or something, He hoped poor Zander Adair felt better! Seventh years really couldn’t afford to be sick--Paul actually wondered if he had any potions he could give the seventh year, because he had now made the head!canon that Zander was sick. Yep. Oh! “Feeling better, Zander? I do hope you are! You need all your senses about you for NEWTs!” he smiled, though. “There’s a bin somewhere in here if you need to be sick…” SPOILER!!: Adi Paul nodded at Mr. Rehman. “Hello, Adi! You’re looking dapper today!” he grinned and eyed one of the trees, floating closer to him. “Yes...they are quite cool, I agree.” Tis why he was teaching the students about them! SPOILER!!: Sophie Brown Paul noticed Sophie’s demeanor almost instantly. He would have noticed in her voice if his eyes had still been closed. He chose not to comment, lest he make things worse, and just smiled as broadly as he could at the seventh year. “Thank you, Miss Brown,” He nodded at her politely. He took compliments about the trees as compliments to HIM of course. SPOILER!!: Brooklyn Paul nodded at Brooklyn. “Good day, Miss Andrews….the trees won’t...hurt you.” He snorted a little. “I promise.” They were like...peaceful little floating things. SPOILER!!: Hadleigh “Heeelllooo there, Miss Lynch!” he smiled and waved. The students were just...piling right in! How lovely. He wanted to get started soon, so he hopped off the table and glanced at his watch. Hmph. SPOILER!!: Zeke Paul smiled at Zeke, too, and wondered why all the LONG FACES TODAY? The weather was nice, it felt nice in HERE, it even smelled very fresh today! And Paul himself was just SO EXCITED for the lesson he didn’t quite understand. But no matter. Time to start the lesson! “Okay everyone! Let us make the circle....and hold hands--” Paul grabbed the two students’ hands nearest him. “And close our eyes….” he lowered his voice to barely above a whisper. “And breathe in….slowly….use your entire person….to breathe in….let us give thanks to the earth for this….beautiful day…..let us use this positivity to….push out the negative thoughts….” he hadn’t told them to breathe out yet! “And now….as you think of those negative thoughts...let us breathe them out….” Ahhhhhh. “Push them out into the air, let them go.” Paul was PUSHING OUT HIS NEGATIVITY, SEE? “Breathe in...rejoice in the companionship of your comrades...of the bond we all have with one another and the earth….” He was silent for a few seconds. “Breathe out...And now...take a minute to connect with your deeper self...to truly /feel/…” Paul was silent, again, for about a minute. And then he opened his eyes and let go of the hands. “AND WE BEGIN CLASS!” he waved at them to have a seat at their tables and walked to the front of the classroom, near the blackboard and where one tree happened to be floating nearby. “As Miss Kettleburn pointed out when she arrived in here, these are GRAVITY RESISTANT TREES.” He flicked his wand, and the chalk began to write on the board. “I have...taken note that some of you are not fond of dirt--” he tried not to look at Dot, but this was totally for Dot. “And so...I thought I’d eventually do some lessons on these beautiful trees--shipped in from Nepal.” Very expensive, children. Very. Expensive. So don’t ruin them, all right? “Now, this lesson will be very laid back, but very...well, I HOPE fun…” he smirked. “But first, we should go over some facts about Gravity Resistant Trees.” The chalk was poised on the board, waiting to write more, Myers! “These...well, these are a result of crossbreeding. They are a combo of aerial root trees...hydroponic trees….and of course, MAGIC-NESS.” It was totally a word. But today was NOT a lesson about crossbreeding, so no details. “Now, not all of you may know what those two trees are exactly, but I think we’ll go over it in detail as we discuss THESE trees more. So. “ He cleared his throat. “If plants in general need light, air, water, nutrients, and minerals to survive….how do you all guess that THESE trees get those resources? Please make only one guess so...everyone can say something if they want!” he knew some of his students could be eager and...spit out entire answers. Which was completely fine! Mostly. OOC: WHEEE class has officially started! Don’t post arriving late unless you want IC consequences to follllllllow! I will resume class in about...15 hours? Yeah? Yeah. <3 |
.... yeah, he really didn't understand why they had to keep meditating EVERY lesson. It did him little good, but he supposed it was a good enough time waster. Less time for lesson stuff - which was always a good thing, until next year when he would be taking OWLs. Mmm. After the hand holding and breathing and things, Zeke settled back waiting for the lesson to enlighten him. Grvaity resistant trees... that much he'd gathered for himself, and as for the light, water and air and things... well.. hand up, Zeke voiced his thoughts. "Sir, they can still receive sunlight as any other plant would, same with water and air, though water could also be taken in its gaseous form, right? Water vapour?" |
Class had started and today they're gonna talk about gravity-resistant tree. Those tree looked cool, though. Floating in the air like they had been levitated by using levitating charm. Hehehe. Herbology wasn't really her strongest subject so she didn't know that those kind of trees existed. And like the other common plants, they needed nutrients, lights and other stuffs. "I think.... they take the water when the rain comes down or someone sprayed it. As for the nutrients, my father uses that kind of liquid fertilizer for some of her plant so... I think it would work too." |
There was that smile that Adi was used to and loved. He hooked the fingers of one of his hands through Benny's even before Myers got started. An excuse to hold the boyfriend's hand in class? HECK, YEAH! He would take it. When Myers got started on the meditation, Adi quickly grabbed hold of the student's hand beside him to follow the meditation instructions. Breatheeeee in annnnnd oooout! All them negativity get out, out OUT. Problem was, did he have any negativity in him? Maybe just a tad. Once the meditation was over, Adi opened his eyes to focus on the trees. He gave Benny's hand a lingering hold and a squeeze before he released it. Sooo... gravity resistant trees! AWESOMEEE! They were so fascinating, hovering there. Adi raised his hand after some thought. ''Possibly all the nutrients are combined together in a formula and injected into them.'' As Zeke mentioned, they could still get sunlight and air naturally. |
Norah's eyes flew open the moment meditation was over, not because she didn't like meditation, but because it wasn't every day that they got to talk about trees that resisted GRAVITY. How cool was that? She'd never read much about these ones before, but the two words Professor Myers said before did ring a bell. Aerial root ones had roots ABOVE the soil, and the Hydroponic trees were grown in water instead of soil, which was kinda the same as these except these ones had air instead of water all around 'em. They weren't exactly the same, but y'know. It helped, right? She eyed the trees for another moment before putting her hand up to inform the professor of exactly what she'd been thinking. "Kinda like aerial root trees and hydroponic ones, these have to get nutrients without help from the soil. Y'know. 'Cause they're floating." It SEEMED so obvious but it was easy to forget obvious things when you thought about them for far too long. "So I guess they have a way of getting everything they need from the air--I mean, there are loads of nutrient there, too--so they just need to have pathways for the nutrients to get in there on the different surfaces. There are cells to do that, right?" There were cells to do everything. Normal plants had stomata for letting water OUT, so why couldn't there be ones to let water in? Normal trees had pathways too, just for use in different places. |
