| | Herbology Lesson I - Composting Professor Paul Myers is sitting in the front of the Greenhouse, where there are four tables lined up parallel to each other as well as a table up front, where Myers is leaning casually on said table. The table in the front is longer than the rest because there are different bins on the table holding various things; there is one bin containing trash that Paul collected himself from rubbish bins, the paper products. Another holds the food trash from the Great Hall; a third one holds leaves, grasses, and twigs; a fourth holds things Paul has gathered from the lake; a fifth holds different containers of…..manure.
The smell of the Greenhouse is probably none too pleasant.
Paul has his gloves on, ready to go, as he greets the students when they walk in. He expects that they had made themselves familiar with his classroom rules, especially the two special ones.
The blackboard behind Paul is empty for now, but will soon be filled up(hopefully). The weather outside might be a bit cold, but in the Greenhouse it is nice and warm without being too stuffy. “All right everyone--we’re going to be taking some notes and then getting...dirty. So PLEASE--make sure you have your gloves with you today!” He calls out as his bright and shiny faced students waltz through the door. “Get in a circle for our meditation--” Because you just CAN’T start class without first clearing your head . OOC: Hi guys! Kate here. Make sure you read all of our rules and stuff. [[SS ones AND my own]] I will know if you have not(; Please note that this is NOT the first Herbology class of the year; your student has been attending lessons with Paul for months now. The following happen every class: *Paul begins class with a meditation, with the students holding hands in a circle. Your student should know by now that this is expected of them at the beginning of class.
*Everyone must say something nice about a student when they walk in, preferably someone who has not had anything nice said about them already.
*There is a basket of flowers Paul keeps in the front; feel free to have your character come up at any time to grab one, and give it to another student if someone particularly touches them emotionally or anything. I include this so that you are better able to determine how to play your character in this lesson! Thanks, guys! I will start the lesson in about….15 or so hours. <3 |

| (Professor Myers, Miss Sophie Brown, Miss Ava Burton) ∞ 17 | RP entrepreneur | defies gravity | Miss George is flawless | blanket burrito lyfe Not even this was making this lesson at all better. He couldn't tell if people were watching and he couldn't tell if Miss Sophie Brown had fainted because the (unknown) love of her life was here dead on the floor. Dead, being that he couldn't open his eyes and check as that would ruin his cover. Of course, the willy nilly Professor wasn't clued in enough that if a student had DIED, they would not answer even if he was YELLING their name. Who even employed the staff here? Did the first years have more brains than their educators?
Yes, the Healer. Because the Healer would laugh in Professor Myers' face because he was so impotent. So Rooney just lay there with every intention of keeping up his act.
.. Ah, there was Miss Sophie Brown.
Rooney would have smiled one of his biggest smiles if he wasn't playing absolute dead right now. Stuff to do and adventures to go on? That sounded like the perfect life to live with his Cosette. But the promise of it in such a situation was nothing compared to the promise of it on a normal daily basis. Instead, Rooney continued to lay there, holding his breath, wishing right now that he had paid more attention when his mentor had explained the best opportunities to snatch a breath through his nostrils without someone noticing. He probably gave something away by now, had no one actually seen his finger twitch when Miss Sophie Brown had TOUCHED him??
They'd know when he died a real death after Miss Sophie Brown gave him the kiss of life, though. Kind of ironic actually, death after the kiss of life. Was her Head Buttface Boyfriend watching?
Clearly no-- "COOOOOLLLLDDDDDMYGOSHHHHH"
His act was over. His one-man-show had came to an end. The second year jolted upright, bashing his head against Miss Sophie Brown's (unintentionally, honestly) and flapped his arms out quick enough to hit his Professor in the face. (Again, unintentionally -- although he wished this had been intended) With a yelp about being cold and wet, Roo shuffled himself under his workstation and pulled his knees up to his chest. "M'o..o..ok..kkay..." AND COLD AND WET AND COLD AND WET AND SOMEONE HIT THAT GRYFFINDOR WITH SOMETHING, PLEASE?!
Had he asked for a shower?!

It was time. Janelle took a deep breath and picked up her bucket of chicken manure. Using her gloved hand, she sprinkled the manure on top of her compost layers. She tried to use her best judgment and not overdo it with the chicken manure. The professor had said that too much could be disastrous so she was very mindful of that. When everything was finished, she took off her gloves. Taking out her wand again, Janelle pointed at the gloves and said, "Scourgify". When she was satified that they were sufficiently clean, she ended the spell. She couldn't go around with poopy gloves, now could she?
Now for the last step. Janelle found her card and began to write down all of the required information. Quote:
Janelle Guidry
Materials used:
Twigs-Carbon
Coffee Grounds-Nitrogen
Apple cores-Nitrogen
Tea bags-Carbon
Orange peels-Nitrogen
Chicken manure-Nitrogen
I used more Nitrogen materials than Carbon materials.
Janelle put down her quill and exhaled. Was she done? She guessed she'd have to wait for the professor to say so. For now she could relax........or not. It wouldn't be Hogwarts if there was no drama. A student had fainted? Janelle looked around and saw what was happening. Student down! Student down! Fortunately, Head Girl was on the job. Did she know CPR or it's magical equivalent? Not knowing what she could do to help, Janelle made sure to stay out of the way. Too bad she hadn't quite mastered that Patronus charm yet. And then it was over. He was alive. False alarm folks, nothing to see here.

| Post #3 Pooh Bear | Fabio | Sith Lord | Fab & Chic Okaaay. That kid was still on the floor not moving and the Head was telling someone to cast a patronus. She wanted to help truly but she still can't managed to cast a patronus. Then she heard Yoongi said something about throwing some water to his face. OHH! That's a good idea. And as soon as Yoongi said that, Ava did that. No surprise there. Inner chuckles.
And apparently the water was working, the kid was alive again. So no need for the Healer then. Well, she hoped the kid was okay. Now back to her compost.
She only need to label her card. But before that she sprinkled some water to her compost. There. Her compost was moist enough. She thinks. Quote: Candice Messer
Fifth Year Gryffindor Materials used:
Soil
Straws (Carbon)
Orange Peels (Nitrogen)
Tea Bags (Carbon)

Rich in Nitrogen with a little touch of Carbon. There. DONE!

...Merlin's pants.
This was...an exciting class, eh? And not because of the POOP. Sophie Brown was doing an excellent job--but he wondered----hmmm. Was the kid........faking? Did he secretly hope Miss Brown would give him CPR or something?! GAH PRE-TEENS AND TEENAGERS. He often forgot what it was like...all those......hormones and whatnot. EEEEEE. "Wait, Miss Burton, I don't think---" but it was too late. Water. All over Mr. Bronwyn.
Paul rubbed his face...but was relieved that the kid was UP and about. Well then. "Miss Burton--thank you--I don't think that was necessary--and I probably wouldn't recommend you do that again--it's quite rude--" he was chuckling slightly though... "Mr. Bronwyn--it's nothing a well-placed drying charm can't fix--" he pointed his wand at the boy's clothes and whispered the incantation, hot air sifting from his wand and onto Rooney. Hopefully he would be...less wet and cold in a few seconds. "Mr. Bronwyn--how far did you on your compost?" he asked softly, looking up at the kids' workplace.
...did the kid just slap him?
Paul had been slapped. SLAPPED.

| post 2 A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.
Had…..had Ava actually listened to his idea of throwing water on the kid because she thought it had been a good one …or did she just enjoy spraying water on the kids face? His bet was on the latter one. Oh and look. The dead kid wasn’t so dead after all! And OI! What did the Professor mean with ‘that was quite rude?’ that wasn’t rude HIS plan had been BRILLIANT! *pout*
Well then, since the kid was alive that meant he could continue with his own task so he focused on the crate in front of him. He had already put in the moist and dry materials so he had to water it now right? Whatever, he’d just do that. He grabbed the watering can and sprayed some of the water over the materials before he added the next materials which were potato peels. He cleaned his gloves with a wave of his wand and then grabbed a bunch of dead flowers from the next bucket and layered them on top of the moist. He really hoped the pine and flowers would mask the stink later. He doubted it though…

| Post #3 be curious, not judgmental Sophie did NOT think that it was smart to throw cold water on Rooney, and she looked up to say so to Yoongi just as the professor was advising him not to-- SPLASH! CLUNK!
In the same moment, Ava showered Rooney with a stream of water, Rooney jolted up and slammed his own head against the Head Girl's, and Soph fell backward with a groan, her hand leaving Rooney's wrist to instead rest on her forehead where his noggin had made a hard impact. That... was definitely going to leave a mark. Oi. Was she concussed? Was this the end? Death by bonking heads?
Slowly and a little shakily, Soph sat up, her hand still on her forehead, and... Rooney was under their work station. Welp. Okay. Luckily, he had the professor drying him off, and hopefully that meant he would... be okay, then, yes? He was the center of attention here anyway and was being well taken care of, so Soph was just gonna... try not to see so many stars and stand up to... hopefully try to finish her compost without too many problems. But was the room spinning or was it just her?
Leaning against her work station for support, Soph blinked a few times as she picked up her wand again and, completely dismissing further glove use, she ended up just casting, "Wingardium Leviosa," softly and levitated some of the Knarl manure right into her crate, settling it down evenly throughout the crate as she did this a few times. When it was finished - and albeit it wasn't as nice of a job as she normally would've done - she cast, "Aguamenti," to sprinkle some water over the manure, then abandoned her crate altogether to instead work on her card, her free hand occasionally coming back up to rub at her forehead.
Nitrogen... carbon... she thought the only carbons on her list were pine needles and straw, which made hers pretty Nitrogen-heavy, if she was thinking it through correctly, so she scribbled her information out.
With that finished, Soph made quick work of casting a few cleaning charms around her area, on her gloves, on her tabletop, and then... she was gonna rest her head, just for a second for a quick little rest, okay? And down into her arms her head went on her tabletop.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Norah Kittredge Seventh Year | Post 3 Lil' gooz | Sarangel | Junior Dweeb Right when Norah was getting ready to write up her explanation card, something.....happened. Was Rooney DYING? ROONEY! Rooney with the hugs and the sweet things to say oh man oh man oh man how could this happen? And Sophie Brown was just TALKING to him? Sophie Brown could do anything, remember? Why wasn't she doing some healer-y stuff and saving him? This was ROONEY they were talking about.
But then it was Ava Burton to the rescue. She wasn't sure if water in the face was really the best way to go about it, but it worked so really Norah wasn't in the place to judge. She gave the little Gryffindor a thumbs up, because it seemed like the right thing to do after she'd done the world a favor and saved cutiepie Rooney, before turning back to her compost. Usually she'd go check to make sure he was okay, offering a few hugs 'n good stuff, but the compost was just CALLING her. That was what she called a good lesson. Herbology more interesting than hugs. Professor Myers really deserved an award.
Double checking her compost to make sure it looked alright, Norah turned to her notes to assess the nutrients in her compost. A few of her materials weren't even on the list, like knarl manure and orange pulp, but it was easy enough to figure out. All the other manures were high in nitrogen, so it made sense that the knarl manure would be too, and so were orange peels so the orange pulp was probably also nitrogen-rich. A little too proud of her deductions, she leaned over her little card and began to write. Quote:
Norah Kittredge
Materials Used:
Straw (carbon)
Pine Needles (carbon)
Orange Pulp (nitrogen)
Potato Peels (nitrogen)
Knarl Manure (nitrogen)
It looks like I used a lot more nitrogen than carbon, but if you pay close attention to my compost you can see that I used pine needles for every other layer, so they were used twice as much as just one of the wet materials. So really it could be on this list twice, except it's not because that'd just be redundant. What I mean to say is that the compost is mostly nitrogen rich, but there's a good amount of carbon too.
Her handwriting had gotten awfully cramped and little at the end, but it was okay. It was her name's fault for being so long, anyways.

Angel was totally enjoying this, first it was dry, then moist, then dry, she then added some Manure and then she added more of the rotten stuff, or old, or whatever she was supposed to call it. "This was just so much fun, though she was glad she was not going to be doing this all the time because it was a bit smelly and she was sure she would need to wash her hand a thousand time to get the smell off even with the gloves on she was wearing.
"Aguamenti!!" Angel said as she put water into her compos, she then put more rotten items in and did it again and she did it until she thought the compos looked good and everything was cool even if it did smell a little bit bad.

...that was a very loud head!conk. Paul turned his attention to Miss Brown. "Are you okay, Sophie?" he asked softly. She was at least finishing up her compost..."Do you feel lightheaded--dizzy? Faint? Weak?" Merlin. Maybe he was overreacting.
He was.
He knew he was.
SIGH.
It seemed like most people were wrapping up, then. Paul stayed close to Sophie, but said aloud, "ALL RIGHT everyone! Class is...just about over with--please, if you haven't finished your compost--DO SO QUICKLY, with the cards! Leave your crates where they are, I will be taking care of all that." The magic of....magic! "I will post your homework after class!" Yes, homework. OOC: Class is...pretty much over, but I won't be closing the thread for a few hours. You have...about six hours until I close the class. If you need to finish up your posts, go ahead. If you want to post your charrie packing up and leaving, that's fine. <3 EVERYTHING IS FINE.

SIGH. Urgh. It was nice to close her eyes in her arms like this and to rest her head for a minute. There was a nice, building throbbing sensation in spot of contact at the front of her head, but it was feeling less extreme the more she took sloooow, deep breaths to let the oxygen flow plentifully to her brain.
She was fine. Totally fine.
At the professor's concern, Soph responded muffledly, her head still buried in her arms, "Just resting for a second, professor. Don't worry about me." There was a mild grunt, and she turned her head slightly to face him, still using her arms as a pillow as she added, "My compost might be rubbish, though." No pun intended.

Janelle watched the classroom drama continue to unfold. Then suddenly she remembered something. Quickly looking at her notes, she realized that she had forgotten an important step. Thank goodness she hadn't cleaned up yet. Janelle reached for her watering can and sprinkled one more time. She had forgotten to water her compost after she added the manure.
Just to make sure that she didn't leave out anymore steps, Janelle read through her notes again. Hopefully she hadn't missed anything else. Now Janelle took a moment to straighten up her work area. Then she made sure that her crate was all set. She packed up her things and prepared to leave. "Thanks Professor. I enjoyed the class, in spite of the manure." Who'd of thought? Janelle actually enjoyed Herbology. She guessed anything was possible.

Angel had totally forgot what she was supposed to do next, she had got her compos all ready and it looked good, even if it did smell a bit funny, though she had a feeling she could do something about that if she wanted, wasn't there a charm to make things smell nicer. Quote:
Angel Valentine

chicken Manure - Nitrogen
grass clippings - Nitrogen
apple core - Nitrogen
I think my compos is rich in nitrogen by the looks of things.
Angel decided against writing about the fact she used her wand and water, there was no need to do anything about that right. It wasn't important, she was just finishing up when she heard the Professor tell them it was the end of the class, well this had been so much fun.

| Post 2 Made of Awesome | Ern-la the Best-wa | TZ's Apogee Dot was feeling a groove now, with the layering of her dry and wet ingredients, and then the sprinkling of water. She could almost slip into that place where she didn't have to over-think her actions and could pretend she was sewing or stretching or some other task that required only muscle memory and no THOUGHT.
It was hard to do that too much, because there was always the bucket of manure sitting there, waiting for her. Sending it's existence and stench her way with absolute malignancy. Could manure want the worst for you? Want you to suffer?
It was finally time to add the last layer, the manure, and Dot decided to just get it over with all at once. She up-ended the bucket over her crate and watched the contents slide thickly from the bucket. Still bucket shape as it hit and splattered across her tidy piles. Erm... was that good?

That was bad, right? She really should have considered her options more. Oops. Too late to go back. Ugh.
Once she was sure her area was cleared, Sophie waved to the rest of the class and gave Professor a quick smile. Yeah he was definitely her favorite. Grabbing her bag, she headed out of the classroom.

| Post 3 Made of Awesome | Ern-la the Best-wa | TZ's Apogee Okay, that glob of manure was not going to work for this project, and Dot was forced to tug her gloves tighter into place and pick up her trowel to smooth out that mess. Paul clapped his hands together and made his way to the front of the room. "Miss Brown! Please make sure you rest the rest of the day--and if you feel worse--PROMISE ME you'll go see the nurse." He was a tiny bit worried. "EVERYONE ELSE! Great job today! I know compost can be gross and stinky--but you all were real troopers--" his eyes trailed over to Rooney. "For the most part! Thank you! Have a good rest of the day!"
And..the lesson was over.
Paul could relax.
