The official home of the Lions, the Gryffindor common room, is found on the seventh floor of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The entrance to the common room is the portrait of the delightful Fat Lady. In order to gain entrance to your home away from home, Lions must know the password and speak it to her - assuming she isn't forcing you to listen to her sing of key that is.
This term's password is 'Aurea Orrery'.
Be sure to remember those words. Keep them secret, keep them safe. Without them the Fat Lady won't swing away from the hole and allow you to enter Gryffindor Tower and you'll be stuck picking your nose while waiting for a housemate to let you in. Once you're lucky enough to scramble through, you'll find yourself in the central common room (a perfectly circular area full of squashy armchairs, fluffy beanbag chairs, and tables, now referred to as the 'Lions' Den'. The large circular space has two adjacent rooms, the reading room and the game lounge, equipped with the resources and materials required to complete any homework assignments and distract oneself from doing any homework at all. Fixed to the wall by the windows you will find the pasteboard for classes and other school announcements.
The windows, wedged between falling tapestries and portraits of Heads of House past, look out onto the grounds of the school, and a large fireplace takes up a large section of the wall near the entrance to the common room. It's the perfect place to relax and hang out after a long day of classes. If however you are in need of a nap a good night's rest then there are two doors leading off from the common room that open to spiral staircases. Boys' dormitories are upstairs and to the right above the reading room, while girls' dormitories are upstairs and to the left above the game lounge. Be sure you don’t go breaking any of the rules by attempting to go up the wrong staircases. Boys don’t stand a chance of beating the enchanted staircase, and frankly girls should know better.
For whatever reason you're here, make sure you take good care of your home away from home. There's bound to be a perfect or your Head of House lurking in the shadows making sure you stay out of trouble...or ready to join in on whatever mischief you may be up to. This is Hogwarts after all. Anything can happen!

Zander Adair had a lot on his mind. Which is precisely why this whole nonverbal thing was not going too well. He probably looked like a fool about it too. Standing up and waving around his wand without any sort of effect. Why weren't the things doing what the things were supposed to do?
In all honesty, he kinda wanted to leave the Common Room and abandon the nonverbal thing for the day. Except, he wasn't actually here trying to practice the nonverbal thing.
Uh.
No he was here to practice the nonverbal thing. The Gryffindor scratched his head. Technically he was here to find Blaise Bellaire and make sure he finally got to talk to the kid. But who knew how long it'd take the first year to wind up back in the Common Room. Was the boy in his room? Outside? On his way back? Who even knew? Not Zander. Clearly. But he was having a stake out. Would stay here all night if he had to.
He was on Blaise watch.
But also in the mean time, it wouldn't hurt to try to get a stupid spell to work. Accio!, y'know maybe there were easier spells to start with?

Merlin he was tired.
Blaise had just done a buttload of reading in the library to make up for the day's Transfiguration lesson that he skipped. The theory didn't seem so bad. All he had to do was ace the written, then it wouldn't matter how poorly he did on the practical, he'd still get an 'A' which was WAAAAYYYYYY better than the 'T's he was currently pulling.
Kid was preparing for finals. Why start this early? Naturally it was because he would be doomed otherwise. There was a lot to catch up on and a lot to make up for--
Holy kneazle.
Back outside. Back outside. Back outside. One look at Zander Adair sent the boy scrambling for the portrait hole. He...hadn't anticipated running into him.

Y'know, Zander had half a mind to try and accio Blaise Belliare or something so that he could finally talk to the kid and get on his merry-- Woah. That happened fast.
And the seventh year would've liked to pride himself in the fact that it was all him, but he was about 99.9% sure that the summoning spell didn't work on people. Ahem. And also, he hadn't really casted it had he? Just thought it really. But if anyone asked, it was all him. Call it advanced magic or something maybe.
But just as Zander had managed to make eye contact with the kid... HE WAS RUNNING AWAY??? NO NO NO THAT WAS NOT ACCORDING TO PLAN!!! He owed Flamsteed this much. S i g h. This was not how Zander had planned to spend the day. Not at all.
But he had to think quick and really the first thing that came to mind included whipping his wand out towards the portrait hole and thinking a quick-fire 'Colloportus!' Sooooooo.... the real question is... Did it work or....?
"OI BLAISE! STOP RUNNING AWAY FROM ME!" And in case it didn't work, Zander Adair was headed in the first year's direction.

"OI BLAISE! STOP RUNNING AWAY FROM ME!" And in case it didn't work, Zander Adair was headed in the first year's direction.
Why YES, he was clawing away desperately at the suddenly closed portrait hole. The boy didn't know how or when it happened, all he knew was that the moment he got set to make his grand exit, he was suddenly blocked from doing so and no matter how much he pushed, scratched, kicked, yanked, hit the entrance seemed to be proper closed and he was proper stuck in the room with the yelling Head Boy.
Did this deter him? Why would it? HE WAS GONNA PUSH AND SCRATCH AND KICK AND YANK AND HIT EVEN HARDER. Duh.
"Come on you stupid thing, open open open!" But much like his wand, this thing didn't seem to be listening to anything he was saying either--in the same way the Professors and his school mates wouldn't listen when he said he didn't want to learn. Must have been a trend at this place.
"How's about you stop chasing me and let me go then??" Did it ever occur to him he'd stop running away from him if HE stopped trying to find him? Hmmmmmmmm?
Still pushing and scratching and kicking and yanking. Desperation was a heck of a thing.

With all of his homework done and having some free time for himself, Yoongi decided to spend his time in the common room. He walked through the portrait hole after talking to David and stretched his arms in the air as he felt the warmth of the fireplace. Comfortable~
He walked over to one of the empty arm chairs and sat down. "Hey Angel" he said to the girl already in the common room. "You're done with your homework as well?"
Angel suddenly saw someone coming into the room, even though she had met him before it was ages ago and was once, so this will count right as doing something for someone you didn't know well. "Hi Yoongi." Angel suddenly had an idea of something to do, hadn't they been lost in a maze before and she had to get them out.
Angel put her hand in her bag and took out a drawing. "I drew this a few days ago." Angel was going to do something else as well. "It's a maze, do you think you can get to the end of it." Angel giggled, she had tried to make it as hard as she could.
A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.

Well, if she had time to draw a maze she had done her homework right? Yoongi looked down at the piece of paper that was handed over to him. "You know, this reminds me of that time we got lost in the maize maze" he laughed as he looked at Angel for a second before turning back to the paper. "Okay...." was it rude to ask her why he needed to finish this maze? "Do i get a prize if i finish it?" he grinned as he non-verbally summoned his trusted pink flamingo quill from out of his bag upstairs in the boys dormitory.
As he caught it in the air, Yoongi placed the piece of paper on his lap and began to do the maze. It was...pretty complicated as he traced the lines with his finger first before deciding on a route.

"There might be a prize if you finish." Angel was being truthful, she was trying to do something nice for Yoongi and was trying to figure out what prize would do for him, a chocolate frog or something more.
Angel watched as Yoongi started to do the maze. "Let's see if you can do it." Angel giggled as she watched Yoongi go wrong a few times, she wanted to make it as hard as she could for him and so she was trying her hardest not to spoiler it.

Okay in hindsight maybe locking the door and yelling weren't the best ways to communicate good vibes. But um, he panicked okay? He just really owed Flamsteed and what better way to finally break even than to fix something like this? Getting a stubborn first year to take a chance would probably clear his entire reputation and make Zander Adair a good kid again in Flamsteed's books. Not that Flamsteed probably had books like that...
Er. Right well, now there was a lot of kicking and scratching and yanking and Sweet Merlin, when the Fat Lady got to him, Zander Adair would be a dead man for this.
But also... HIS NONVERBAL WORKED????? He had been standing here for all of FIVE WEEKS trying to get a stupid nonverbal to do what it was supposed to do and all it took was a moment of panic? Er, could they make that happen during exams because Zander was in need of some sort of miracle here. Ahem. "Errr sorry about that," he scratched his head. Sorry about the chasing. Not about the letting go thing because that would be counterproductive.
"But... I don't think the portraits appreciate that kind of scratching," merlin was this kid desperate to escape or WHAT? "Anyways, I hear you're in a pickle with some classes... And I just wanna help." Obviously the boy probably knew why Zander had been chasing him down like that, otherwise he probably wouldn't have been running away so quickly. Unless he had another reason to be avoiding the Seventh Year, DID HE?

"Hmmhmm" he mumbled as he continued to draw a path on the paper and groaned whenever he had the wrong path and had to trail back to another route. The idea of winning a prize was all he had in his mind and he would definitely win this! For sure! Because he disliked losing...
"oh i can" he said confidently and tried another path. He was never really good at these kind of puzzles. If he had he wouldn't have been lost in that real maze last year. He striped the quill left another left, right, left...dead end.... back again, turn left, right....aaaaaand "TAADAAA!" He BEAMED as he held up the drawn maze. "See! i can do this~" he wasn't just a pretty face! BWAHAHAHA! He gave the piece of paper back to Angel and grinned at her as he held out his hands. "Prize?" he asked, cocking his head to the side.

Angel looked at Yoongi as he spoke and then she smiled when he had finished the task. "Congrats here's your prize." Angel smiled as she took out the Ancient Runes rune Wunjo out of her bag. "oops, nope not your prize." Angel giggled as she put it back.
Angel then suddenly grabbed something else and handed to him. "First I made this for you." Angel giggled it was a maze trophy that she had made especially for him, to remind him of the one time they had been lost together and then she took out a bar of Cadbury's chocolate, that would be better than chocolate frogs. "Here you go your prizes." Angel hoped this would make him feel cool about himself, now that was being nice right?

YAS! PRIZE! Yoongi held out his hands even more but then frowned when he saw that she was taking back his prize. "What was that?" he asked as she had put it back in her bag very fast and he had only seen some kind of stone. He sighed softly and took his hand back but then she did hand over something and it made him laugh. A little maze trophy!?
That had him laughing but not in a bad way you know? "Thanks Angel, i'm so going to show this off at home to my sisters because they teased me a lot when they found out i got lost last year" he loved his sisters, but they could be really mean to him sometimes. The next prize made him stop smiling for a second but then it was back. "Chocolate! thanks" He didn't eat chocolate because he was working out but he couldn't say that to her face. It would just be rude and it seemed to make her happy. But first David giving him chocolates and now Angel...... He'd just accept it and give them to someone else later. She wouldn't mind right?

Did it look like he cared what the portrait liked? If she didn't want the harassment she should have swung open to let him leave. Clearly she liked the feeling of an 11 year old's shoes hammering incessantly at the back of her frame...at least until he got tired. Thing is...he was starting to realize that no matter how much he tried, the entrance wasn't budging and he was now cornered by one Zander Adair.
With a loud huff, the boy finally turned to face the Head Boy, forcing on his best dimpled smile. "A pickle? Nah, you must have me confused with someone else--is that why you were chasing me? Gosh I'm silly, I just thought you found out about the worms we put in Justin's pillowcase two nights ago. Kid's a squealer you know."
The smile spread into a wide grin as he took wide steps around the older boy, every step inching him closer to the staircase.
"Boy am I glad we got that cleared up. You must have me confused for this other Firstie. We get mixed up all the time, it's cool." One more step...then another....no sudden movements or Zander might try giving chase again. "I appreciate your concern though. That was a neat trick you did with the entrance just now. I admire you so much. You must be the most powerful wizard in this entire school--I like your tie."
Hand on railing. Almost there....

Hand on railing. Almost there....
Yes he was cornered by one Zander Adair except that one Zander Adair did not know how to go about this. Especially with someone so Gryffindor such as Blaise. It was gonna take some serious convincing. Merlin, Flamsteed... The guy couldn't have given him an easier task or something? Surely Puck would've been better with this. Sigh.
..... What? Worms? Although that was kind of concerning.... That wasn't what Zander was talking about. He he knew that Blaise was most definitely aware of it too. That smile was not doing anything for the kid. Only mad Zander more suspicious. And he was stepping away, which Zander noticed too by the way. And for every step the firstie took, Zander took one as well. There was no way Blaise was getting away that easily.
"Don't even think about it," he was talking about the hand on the railing. The flattery was nice though. Zander liked that. He almost gave the boy a grin, about to comment on the tie when-- Wait a minute. They all had the same ties. "Okay Blaise, I get it. You've given up, clearly." Y'know, for all the things Professor Flamsteed thought about, he couldn't have thought of a way to get Blaise on board with this? And here Zander thought that Blaise was ready to comply. Merlin, the Astronomy Professor failed to notify him of a very key aspect here. The boy was even more stubborn than the likes of Kevin Hirase. "But see, giving up may have been okay before, but now that you're a Gryffindor it's not. We don't give up. And I think you've got the potential to be one of the most Gryffindor people this castle as ever seen, so you've got to prove it."
Merlin, this was gonna kill him, he was sure. "And I get it, Charms and Transfiguration used to be hard for me too, but they're not impossible," he nodded. "Heck, nonverbals are really hard for me right now too. But that doesn't mean I'm just gonna give up 'cause only wimps will settle." Would that help? When Kevin used to say that kind of thing to Zander it was always motivating. HE WASN'T A WIMP. And neither was Blaise. Mhm. "Just give it a chance, let me try to help. 'Cause honestly, I've been in your shoes." Professors just didn't get it sometimes. And the personal attention, y'know? "It can't hurt," PLEEEEEAAAASSEEE? Zander did not want to go giving Airey anymore bad news in his lifetime, thanks.
SOOOOO HOW WAS THAT?
Because the next thing that would happen would be a detention threat or something. If he had to take it that far. Zander was running out of words here, okay?

That big beaming smile? The one that displayed his adorable dimples? It had dropped clear off his face when he was advised not to even think about making his way up the stairs despite his hand already being RIGHT there on the railing. With his shoulders slumped and his expression now one of a kicked puppy, the boy made his way instead to one of several couches and threw himself on it. With any luck all he'd have to do was nod and smile...that would make the Head Boy leave him alone, yeah?
"Gryffindors are stubborn too...and head strong...and outspoken and they stick to their word too." His brows knitted until they resembled one. "I can't be a Gryffindor if I go back on what I said and suddenly change my mind just because you told me to." That didn't sound very Gryffindor. Did he look like a Hufflepuff??
Oh great, they got to the part where the boy would try empathizing with him, pretending like he knew exactly how it felt. Blaise knew this tactic, he used it with his little sister all the time and wouldn't fall for it now.
The boy slumped lower in the couch. He didn't much care about being called a wimp, because he knew he wasn't but he DID know that if he didn't think of something he'd be stuck here all night so the boy forced another smile onto his face. "You know what....? You're right. I think I just need to try. Alright. I'll accept the help. Thanks." Most sincere tone too while he sat there.
He had a plan.

"If you have red velvet... I'm a big fan. If not, I'm not picky at all. If it's cake, I'll eat it." Even carrot cake. Which was weird because carrots and cake. But it was delicious.

She was a big fan of cake? Well so was he! They had something in common!
"Me too," he confessed, but... as for what kind he was getting? Uhhh... "Surprise cake." Mmmhhmm, surprise cake was a thing. He had NO idea what he'd just ordered, cake was cake, it could be chocolate, vanilla, fruit, ANYTHING. "Whatever Nimma brigs back I guess."
The elf, the elf was lovely... running all those errands for little old him.
"I don't get the whole red velvet thing though, I mean, I'll eat it, but... WHAT is the actual flavour? Last I checked velvet wasn't food, and how is red velvet better than blue velvet?" Or was that now how it worked? Did she have thoughts on this? He was all for philosophising about cake.

Noelle smiled politely at the house elf. "Thank you Nimma." Nimma. What a nice name. Noelle wasn't used to elves since coming to Hogwarts was the first time she had seen one. But they were oh so helpful and unique! There was one that followed that Zander kid around, and Noelle thought that was the funniest thing.
And what was surprise cake?? Did he mean, surprise me with whatever kind of cake? And that was a long way to say it so shortened up could be surprise cake. Eh. Noelle decided she liked how he said it better.
Noelle giggled as he over thought about red velvet cake. "My mum says red velvet cake is called that because the taste is so rich and velvety and the color is obviously red."

Merlin, Blaise went from 0 to 100 real fast. The boy resembled a kid who just got told Christmas was canceled for the year. And man, Zander kinda felt bad for it. Actually he felt really bad for it. But he needed to stand his ground, so he kept the same expression on his face, giving an approving nod as the first year went to sit on a couch. Man. Now they could stop worrying about that whole running away thing... Speaking of which, Zander had to remember to undo the portrait locking thing. Ahem. He'd get to that eventually.
"Yeah well none of that stuff matters if we've given up," Zander lifted a brow. Honestly, how the heck was he meant to get through to this kid? Next time Professor Flamsteed asked Zander Adair to do something, the Head Boy was gonna ask for more specific instructions first. It was like sending a My Little Pony out to war. My Little Ponies don't win wars. The mighty steeds win wars. And at the moment, Zander felt like one of those ponies. It was tragic. But also... What the heck was he doing wrong????
He had tried just about every trick in the book.
... Wait what?
Zander eyed the slumped boy very, VERY suspiciously. Clearly a mind like that didn't change as quickly as Blaise's did. "Well, that's the spirit! Awesome!" he nodded. Except, honestly he wasn't sure if that was really the spirit. Blaise wasn't gonna weasel his way out of this one, Zander had to make sure of it. "We'll have to start with an hour and a half each day, so we can get you caught up... Then we can loosen the schedule a little bit." Mhm, that's right. Zander was making this an ACTUAL plan because otherwise who knew when they'd bump into each other again. Almost felt like Blaise had been avoiding Zander this whole time.
COUGH.
"We'll have to start right away, what times work best for you? 'Cause I've got to make a copy of our schedule to give to Flamsteed." Meaning the detention threat was well underway now. It was the last trick Zander Adair had up his sleeve.

If Zander Adair thought for even a moment that his plan wouldn't work just because the boy wanted a schedule then he had another think coming. Truly this would be a setback but not one he wasn't prepared for and certainly not one he couldn't overcome. Kid had been ditching lessons since September. There was no way the Head Boy would get him now and not when Davie told him how gullible he was.
"Oh most definitely, I agree, I can give you all my free times and we can work at it until it's perfect. Boy, I bet Professor's Baxter and York will be happier for it. You're a real card Mr. Zander, Sir." Perfectly wide and innocent brown eyes looked up at him as if in great admiration.
Naturally, if the boy provided Flamsteed with a schedule he'd have to show up but THAT part wouldn't be a problem. "And I couldn't agree more about starting immediately. See, I'm free most nights, right after dinner but I'm also free right now and would be ever so grateful to see you cast more of your amazing magic." Blaise sat forward in his seat looking as eager as an 11 year old could. "It was absolutely amazing how you closed the door without even speaking. Can you do anything else non-verbally?"
Yes?

Yes?
Zander Adair did think for even a moment that his plan would work, thanks. He thought it for MORE than a moment. In fact, he was STILL thinking it. Zander was going to pull this off, okay? He was going to finally make it all up to Flamsteed. It's what the past two years had been all about. All lead up to this moment. His destiny. But Merlin, Blaise was really hard to get through to. No wonder the kid ended up a Gryffindor sort.
"Perfect," he grinned, deciding stupidly to take the flattery. But he still didn't buy it. He knew how this kind of stuff worked. It's what he had been doing to Moxley since day one. Flattery would not change things. "Professor Baxter and York will definitely be glad to hear that you're not giving up, bet they'll be impressed with you." Or something along those lines. Eh.
Wait, what? Blaise wanted to start... Right now?
This made Zander very suspicious, but the Gryffindor kept the smile and nodded anyways. Ahem. Man, what Zander would give to know what was gong on in that little head. His smile only faltered when Blaised mentioned nonverbals. Uh. See actually, the door closing was literally the one thing he had been able to do all term. Of course he'd gotten the nonverbal thing a few times, but never consistent and never-- Wait. "Errr thanks, I've been working on some stuff, nothing too great yet..." he trailed off realizing this was way beyond the point. LIGHTBULB! "Anyways, I just realized... You're a writer, right? Have you ever used invisible ink?" He slipped his hand into his bag, reaching around inside it to find something very specific. Why hadn't he remembered this before?!

The smile he'd forced on threatened to remove itself completely. It was a wonder it was still present at all as the Head Boy said what he obviously thought would make this situation better. "I dunno. I think they were happy when I didn't show up to class." One less kid to make it seem like they weren't teaching well enough. If, in theory, all the other kids got the spell right at some point and he still couldn't even make sparks with his wand, one would assume he was either extremely stupid or they weren't doing their jobs.
Granted, the possibility he was stupid was really real and it made him even more discouraged. What if he was genuinely just terrible at this sort of stuff and was destined to sell hot dogs in the streets of Diagon Alley while all his friends became successful witches and wizards who insisted on extra ketchup but little mustard?????????
WHAT IF HE SQUIRTED TOO MUCH MUSTARD ANYWAY AND THEY LAUGHED ABOUT HIM NOT DOING THAT WELL EITHER???????
Just couldn't risk it.
This was turning out okay though. He said he wanted to start now and got asked about writing?? Why hadn't he found Zander sooner? Blaise leaned forward in his seat, trying to get a look at whatever the older boy might have been fishing around for. "I haven't. I don't see the point 'cause I want people to SEE what I write." Cue leaning over even further. "Why?"

Zander raised a brow, giving the boy a disappointed shake of the head. "Actually, it probably upset them to see that you didn't show up. Probably thought you hated them and their class," and there was something about Professors actually wanting their students to learn or something. That's what Dakest had said last term when Zander almost dropped defense. Er, but really what did he know?
Anyways, Zander Adair had no idea how to get this kid to start trying again. Why didn't Flamsteed take this into his own hands? The kid was as stubborn as they could get. No way Adair could fix this one. But alas, he was trying. And he was still trying to find the stupid ink pot from his bag.
AHA!
Just what he had been looking for.
"Oh," he nodded, considering the boy's answer. "Well, invisible ink's real good for secret messages to send to friends... Or for writing stuff for your eyes only, or the eyes of whoever you want to read," the Gryffindor smiled mischievously. Someone please give the Gryffindor an oscar now. Or whatever the wizard equivalent was. Ahem. He was trying SO hard right now, okay? "I've got this ink pot filled with invisible ink, but I still have another left over from last term that'll last me. And I need to get rid of this one, so I thought since you were a writer..." He held the ink pot out towards the firstie PRAYING that he'd take it. And if not, welp. They'd attempt to do the practice or whatever. And if not, he was Flamsteed's problem from here. "And I can teach you the trick to make the ink reveal itself, then you'll be able to SEE what you write."
... How'd that sound? Was he sold? Did Zander have to turn him back over to Flamsteed? Could this be over?
