Never thought you'd hear that again, did you? This time, though, the familiar call seems to be nothing more than an echo, as there is no groundskeeper to keep watch over the little boats tied to Hogwarts' dock. Perhaps the Hogwarts staff feels that their newest graduates are more than capable of sending themselves off, even if the lake still has chunks of ice floating on it?
The same fleet of magical boats that carried you to the school as a firstie still bob gently on the dark, deep, and frigid lake, waiting for your departure. Two graduates per boat, please, and be careful not to tip over. The boat will take off once you release its rope from the dock.
Enjoy your last trip across the Black Lake, and be mindful of Barty.

GAH!
Did he really have to go??? Adi didn't want to but he knew the answer to his internal rhethorical question. Yes, he had to go. Why exactly it was the Hogwarts tradition to make seventh years take the boats from Hogwarts instead of the carriages, he would never know. Perhaps the Professors wanted them to be overcome with the bittersweet feelings.
He'd better clambour into a boat, yeah? The graduate ( ) did just that, taking a seat quite comfortably. Who would be joining him? Adi didn't mind who, actually. He dipped a hand into the Lake absently as he watched the Castle in the distance, thinking of his comfortable Hufflepuff common room and how much he would miss it and the rest of the Caste.

The boats...
The ones he hadn't been on since the very first time he approached the castle that first night. Did the staff really try to fill them with feels with their plan to have the graduates use them on their final ride out from Hogwarts? Whatever the reason, Benny had to find a boat to take across the lake and spotting the familiar hair of a certain Hufflepuff, headed straight for him.
Adi'd understand and he wouldn't have to put on a brave face for. "This spot taken?" he asked rhetorically as he cautiously sat down beside Adi in the boat.

Hand still trailing in the water of the Lake, Adi looked around as movement caught his eyes. It was his boyfriend. He manged a smile. "Nope, it's all yours.'' Yes, he knew it was a rhetorical question. When Benny sat, Adi reached for the hand closest to him to interlock their fingers. He was there for you, Benny, as he could understand what you're feeling.
"Wonder where the others are,'' the Hufflepuff mused, his eyes fixed in the distance. But then he provided an answer to his question. "Maybe they're still saying their goodbyes to the Castle.'' Yep, to the Castle. "Did you tell your dorm bye? I told mine. And the common room. The kitchen too.'' It seemed like all the feelings Adi had been keeping away all this time had finally caught up with him.

He never got the chance to ride the boat when he first arrived in Hogwarts as a Transfer, but exiting that way was very symbolic for him. Two graduates per boat. Just him, a fellow seventh year, the castle behind, and the calm waters of the lake.
It sure looks sad, yeah? But Ethan thought, it was the perfect moment to bask in the glory of Hogwarts in silence.
Man. Wasn't it just yesterday that he started in this school? Where did the time go?

Wait, they had BOATS now? That was pretty legit.
Caleb smiled to himself as he settled into a boat next to Ethan, turning behind him to get one last good look at the castle to imprint into his brain before turning back to his fellow graduate and smiling. "Well, we did it mate. Crazy this is it, huh?" he asked with a small smile. He didn't want to be THAT guy, who kept dwelling on the fact that it was like...ALL DONE, but he couldn't help it!

Benny let Adi take his hand, their fingers intertwining. The Gryffindor gave his boyfriend's hand a squeeze, understanding the comfort and closeness they were offering with the simple actions between them. "I wonder too," he said following the badger's gaze back up to the castle before shrugging at the possible option. There certainly was a lot to say good bye to, at least for the two of them.
"Yeah, I did..." the Gryffindor assured him. Both the dorm and common room, the Fat Lady and Sir Nicholas. "I wonder if the ghosts ever really miss anyone with everyone that comes and goes each term." They did seem to remember the names of all of them over the time he had been at Hogwarts.

It was bittersweet really. It was like...the lake was the only place he could be right now, because a part of him didn't want to leave the castle yet, while the other half wanted to be across already and get going with university.
The lake, who would have thought, will be in his favor tonight?
Ethan watched the others get to the boat, and sail off. It was a pretty thing to see really. He was sure that their professors are swelling with pride right now if they look at the boats slowly creeping up to the other side. They did a great job with their group.
Ethan turned to see who decided to join him. The Slytherin gave Caleb a huge grin and a thumbs up as he sat beside him. "I have to agree, it's over. But...a new adventure awaits us just right over there." he said pointing to the other side. "Congratulations to you, Prefect Newell. Well done." he said clapping the guy's back.
"SO! What's next for you?" he asked.

Adi smiled at the squeeze, moving closer to Benny and leaning his shoulder against him. At least he didn't need to put on that too happy face now as he had done for everyone. But back then, his feelings hadn't gotten to him as it had now. He suspected it was because he was finally letting it all sink in as he watched the Castle. He would get over it soon though, right? Nothing kept this Puffer down for long!
But look! It seemed his fellow graduates were finally making it. Adi watched Caleb and Ethan take a boat before directing his attention back to Benny. "Hmm, good question,'' he responded as he absently traced tiny circles in the palm of his boyfriend's hand with his thumb. "I think they do. I know I would if I were one. I know I'll miss the Grey Lady and Friar.'' Gosh. It seemed like he would miss every single thing about Hogwarts.
But then the Puff thought of something. "I'd come back as one to play pranks on you,'' he teased, sniggering slightly. Yep! Pranking Benny was one of the best things ever.

Dylan followed the group of now graduated students to the boats. He stood on the dock, watching as everyone found a boat. He hesitated, glancing back towards the castle, its invitingly lit windows made him frown a little. He didn't really want to leave. And leaving in the boats that had first taken him here wasn't helping his mood. Sighing, the seventh year reluctantly turned away from the castle and stepped carefully into an empty boat.
Looking up at the castle once more, he said a silent goodbye in his head.

Benny noticed Adi moving closer before finding a head on his shoulder. Yeah, he would let his boyfriend get away with it, especially as he was noticing the Hufflepuff was in the middle of the feels he himself had been showing for days now. Couldn't really deny them anymore...could he? When the castle that had been their home for seven years looming in the distance saying goodbye in its own way while they were preparing to head off across the lake to the rest of their lives.
He too noticed Caleb and Ethan appear at the water's edge and claim their own boat. And then one of Adi's house and yearmates on his lonesome. The Gryffindor....well former Gryffindor...supposed they should be moving on in a bit. But his attention was drawn to their joined hands as his companion traced upon his skin. "And I'll miss Sir Nicholas." The knight had always been so welcoming and encouraging, and he had learned much to support him, especially from that History of Magic class.
It took him a moment to realize what Adi meant. "You would....wouldn't you?' he remarked rhetorically, shaking his head at the image. "Only work if you go before me...." Benny teased back.

Oh hey! It was Dylan. The other guy seemed preoccupied and there was no doubt why. Adi snorted when he remembered how in their first year he and Dylan had disliked each other and had ended up having a glaring contest before they took off for the Castle across the Lake. Funny how things worked out because it was Dylan who gave him his first guitar lesson and they'd been good friends afterward.
"No one will miss the Baron,'' Adi observed, his attention back on Benny. "At least not us, anyway.'' Rude ghost that one was. "Hey, at least we ended on a high note, right? Especially you with that scholarship. I'll spend the money you were supposed to use for University on food.'' Hehe. Adi was only joking. "Good point. Going first doesn't sound so bad.'' Yeah, yeah. He sounded selfish but when it came to Benny, he was.
