The air is crisp and cold, but the wind is slight and the sun is shining on this beautiful winter day. Just outside the entrance to the Quidditch stadium, Tiara stands manning a roaring fire, all the better to keep warm as she waits. Nearby, a makeshift rack holds the school's entire collection of brooms, looking distinctly lonely and ready to finally be in action. The professor has donned Quidditch robes for the occasion, but that's not the only difference you will notice.
Off to the side of the path, what appears to be a giant obstacle course has been set up, with everything several feet off the ground. Clearly this is meant to be part of the lesson. A sign in front of the entire setup reads, "DO NOT USE THIS COURSE WITHOUT PERMISSION TO DO SO FROM PROFESSOR TANNER." Another noteworthy feature, though not visible, is that each element of the course was vigorously checked for hexes, curses, and otherwise dark magic. The school has clearly taken the years-old threat seriously.

Alrightey. Once Adi was satisfied that the four he had been looking out for had gotten things together (though he would check in on Yoongi ever so often), he mounted his own broom and kicked off from the ground, zooming for the obstacle course.
Time to get the show on the road!
WHOOOOSH!
WOAAAH!
He thought about getting the show on the road too soon! There was a bludger already aiming itself at him! Adi leaned forward on the broom so that he passed under the object, flattening himself against the handle. Missed him, bludger!
With the deadly round object behind him, the Puffer continued on, flying through one, two goalposts. Yep, flying through was MUCH more fun and easier. And the wind was in his face. The COLD wind. He LOVED it!
Angel was starting to sort of enjoy this but now she had to put it all together and that was going to be where it got harder, she landed on the floor and then she practiced the kick off, she made sure she kicked off hard and confidently once she had done that she rose about 5 foot in the air, even though it wasn't height it was very scary and she was now wishing that she had gone gradually like a few feet at a time.
Angel then went back towards the ground and landed, this was okay though she was still a bit scared about the situation, she looked at the Professor as she went into the air again and came back down after a few moments, she did this a few time before she felt a bit more better though she was still nervous.
It was a BIG relief that Angel DID get the broom to go up into her hand with success. What kind of leader would Sophie Brown have been if her advice hadn't helped any and the Gryffindor STILL couldn't get it? So when she finally did, Soph actually let out a sigh of relief and gave the girl an encouraging thumbs-up.
Thanks for not making her look like a terrible leader and protecting her reputation. Whew.
As Tanner moved them along and had them mount their broomsticks and practice leaving the ground, Soph did that with ease and made sure to keep an eye on Angel as she did so, wanting the girl to watch in case she had any concerns. But Angel turned out just fine on her own, though she DID look awfully tense and terrified.
Why were all these kids so scared? Was it a fear of heights, or a fear of falling? They shouldn't have been scared to fall, really, since Tanner had proactively cushioned the ground. They couldn't get hurt. Unless they slammed into another person while flying.
THAT would probably hurt, yeah.
Keeping an eye on Angel and her progress, Soph kicked off from the ground expertly and hovered when Tanner instructed them to, not straying too far from the girl, just in case she needed help or leaned too far forward and took off out of control. Nope, Soph didn't need to practice - she was just gonna stay right here beside Angel and make sure she was okay and didn't die. The honorable thing to do, really. So as Angel did her thing, Soph mirrored her and hovered up about five feet above the ground along with her, then back down, then up again - she didn't mind doing this with her, really. Just whatever made her more comfortable.

Noelle had been along the side lines the whole time. She watched as the more experienced people showed off their confidence and skills. She was in awe. She was a little nervous to do it herself because flying was a BIG thing.
But she had to try.
Putting her hand over her broom, she stared down at it and yelled "UP!" It quivered on the ground a bit but didn't exactly move off the ground. Okay... Let's try this again..
"UP!" Noelle said forcefully and watched as her broom came off the ground a little bit. She BEAMED. Did anyone else see that?? Looking around to see if they had, she realized that most everyone was either getting onto their brooms or being helped still.
Okay she needed to speed things up a bit.
Squaring her shoulders. She stared at her broom a good long moment and put her hand back over it. She channelled her mom and said sternly, "Up!!" Her broom sprung up and she circled her fingers around in triumph.
Now was the mounting part. She looked around as everyone else got off and on theirs. She mimicked them and found it quite easy. Maybe flying would be one of her better things. Like divination.
Now that she was mounted, she heard the professor as he told them about how to stop and start. Lean forward and lean back. It didn't seem that hard.
Like the gryffindor she was, Noelle was eager to zoom so she leaned forward, a little much and TOOK OFF. She narrowly missed hitting a fellow student and barely hung on as she zoomed around.
The wind whipped her face and she leaned back to stop from going to fast. "whooooa!" she called out, super surprised she hadn't hurt anyone.

........ Couldn't they just learn ONE new thing each lesson? This was all too much for him. He was sweating. His forehead was WET. He listened to what Professor Tanner was suggesting they did and tried to remember it all. That wasn't hard, though, because he somehow remembered things very, very easily. It was like he didn't have to try. He wouldn't brag about that, but it was a helpful thing. Okay, so forward was moving and backwards was stopping. Sure. He could...do that?
He mounted his broom once more with an apprehensive look, before kicking off into the air. He didn't go TOO far off the ground, just in case this whole moving thing didn't go his way, but he was going to at least give this a try. Here goes...? He leant only slightly forward, before leaning a little more when nothing happened and OH GOSH OH NO THIS WAS SO NOT HAPPENING. His broom lurched forward and he immediately leant back too quickly and found himself on the floor on his back. That had been SO positive. Just SO good. Not.
But he was at least going to try again, because he couldn't just leave this lesson, could he?
Back on the broom he went with TOTAL DETERMINATION THIS TIME.

Wow, some of them were picking up on this so quickly! There was Zeke, quickly becoming miniature up in the air from his height. There was Ava, zooming around like a seasoned pro. Angel had now managed a few takeoffs and landings and would soon be ready for some stop-and-go practice. And of course there was Noelle, who had finally put her fears behind her and was now rocketing around. Tiara was absolutely radiant with the glow of pride on her features.
Of course, some were naturals more than others. Rooney appeared to be having issues, but it also looked like he wasn't going to give up. He looked alllll business getting back up. "Good for you, Mister Bronwyn!" she called over to him.
"Alright, beginners! We have now covered all the basics. You may stay here and continue to practice; or, if you feel adventurous, head on over to the obstacle course!" They may not be ready for what the experienced group was doing with bludgers and moving obstacles; but, there was also a smaller, shorter version next to it with a few stationary posts to practice maneuvering around.
OOC: The thread will remain open another few days. Feel free to RP til your heart's content! Just remember, Tiara is watching this all, so play nice!

WOOHOO!
Adi was having the time of his life! Or at least one of those moments that felt like it. But aaaaah! There was a dummy straight ahead! Not one of those stationary ones. This one reminded him of the ones they used to practice on in the Target Practice area of the DADA room. Said dummy was hovering in his way and the kick was that it was zooming from left to right.
Adi snorted. Riiiight. Like he would let the dummy get the best of him. Even as he approached it, the Puffer had picked up that it was moving in a pattern. To the right, to the right again and then to the left. It would be easy peasy lemon squeezy to get past it!
He slowed down, watching as the dummy did its last 'dance' to the right then headed off to the left. Excellent! He leaned forward on the broom to increase its speed and WHOOOOSH! Off he went, leaving the dummy for the next student.

Zipping forward Hady flattened herself out to speed ahead through a safer calmer portion of the course. Oh! Lookit whom was up ahead!
Grinning Hady coasted along until she was side by side with her big brother. "Hey Adi!" she smiled at him. Flying was awesome! She let the broom go a second with one hand to push a bit of hair from her eyes. Could they stay out here all day?

It seemed like the class would be over soon. Oh no! She really hoped that it wouldn't be over. Ava really enjoyed this class, and flying of course. But lucky that Professor Tanner still allowed them to fly around for a while. Well, let's enjoy it and hopefully it would be another flying class soon.
The young lioness leaned forward to accelerated her broom and "WOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!" It had been a long time since she felt the wind hit her face and it was really a good feeling. Maybe next year she could beg her mom to own a broom and bring it here.
Oh look, there's Adi who's up in the air too! She gave a wave to her fake big brother. And also to Hady who seemed enjoy the flying too.

Olly was still smiling, happy to be in the air again. He looked over toward the obstacle course, eager to get to play with that. But he wasn't going to quite yet. He flew around where he was for a few minutes. Going higher and lower, spinning in circles. He didn't want to join the older kids on the obstacle course when most of his friends were still barely off the ground.
There was Ava, she looked like she knew what she was doing. She got a wave and a grin. Blaise too. But Olly glanced toward the beginner group, to see if any of his friends were there. He flew toward Noelle and hovered a few feet away.
"Hi Noelle! Have you flown before?" Judging by her scream, she didn't seem too confident on a broom just yet.

Yes, yes. It was good for him. Back onto his broom he got and this time he told it something very carefully. "I'd like to keep myself normal, so please don't break or kill me." Yes, thank you broom. After taking a deep breath, Rooney kicked off from the ground a little higher than the previous time. He had a little more confidence in himself, but this was probably from the fact he was so determined for this to not go wrong again and he didn't want to end up on the floor this time. HERE WENT EVERYTHING. ABSOLUTE EVERYTHING. Mainly his dignity.
He took another deep breath and leant forward on his broom, extending the space he travelled by a few more metres before pulling himself back to slow into a stop. He hadn't wanted to be abrupt this time, because of how violent he had been before. But he seemed to have the jist of it. He thought about joining the experienced group, deciding against it eventually and slowly (with quite a few stop and starts) headed over towards the other course. The one for babies. But wasn't going to push himself too much right now. ONTO THE COURSE WAHEYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY.

He was ready to get flying, that was easy enough to tell so the moment he was given the go ahead, Blaise was up in the air. It FELT a lot like when his father took him flying only he found himself trying to get used to the feeling. In some ways it was like riding his bike; getting the balance was most of the work.
As he flew upward, he felt a sudden wind rush by next to him and it was only then that he knew he'd been passed by a bludger. "Holy kneazle!" That could have been him! That could have been his face! That would have been painful! The boy watched it fly off in search of another victim, happy enough it had gotten away from him so he could focus on less hostile things that didn't make his life flash before his eyes.
Having never seen a goal post up close, he flew right over to it, circling it once...twice....another time slowly taking in it's features. It must have been hard getting a quaffle through one of these while you were still trying to get the hang of flying but Chasers were good at what they did and Keepers had to be too otherwise they'd never stop a single one of them. It was all really neat.
OH HEY THERE WAS OLLY WAVING AT HIM. Blaise grinned widely at his friend, taking the chance to raise one hand from his broom and wave back. See? Nothing to it. Why on earth would he let himself get stuck with beginners when this wasn't all that hard?
The boy looped around the hoop once more before turning and heading toward one of several floating but stationary objects. He would attempt to weave through them like he'd seen happen before. Not being quite the accomplished flier as yet, he was prepared to take it juuuust a little slowly.
The Healer might have been here but that didn't mean he wanted to go FALLING OFF his broom.

Practice... or obstacle course.... practice.... obstacle course.
He knew which one he wanted. He first sought permission from Maggie though, kinda, at least... puppy dog eyes DID happen before he slowly retreated to the obstacle course. Was she going to kill him? Cause he was fine with making up with her. Mmhhmm.
Directing his broom to the obstacles, Zeke hovered in midair, first assessing what he would be dealing with, and watching the others have a turn.
Angel was going to try and practice, some stopping and starting now that she had got the hang off this, "Professor, I'll say one thing, Football is better than this because your feet stay on the ground." Angel also was worried about falling off the broom.
Angel started to lean forwards to make the broom go and then she leaned back to stop it, okay so this was easier than she thought and as long as she kept a hold of her broom she wasn't falling off which had been her main concern, she did it a couple more times before she was starting to feel a bit more confident.
Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite
What he was about to attempt would take some serious concentration and stuff. The boy started very slowly at first, dodging the obstacles as they came close enough but by the time he got to the third one, he realized there was really nothing to it. This steering stuff wasn't nearly as hard and Blaise soon found himself picking up speed.
This way and that he leaned, weaving in and out. It wasn't quite professional looking but he was proud of himself, mostly for the fact he hadn't actually knocked into anything.
Nice crisp breeze blowing against his face, the young Gryffindor sped on down the little make shift obstacle course until HE didn't realize how fast he was actually going. Everything seemed like a blur and his heart was doing light little flutters as if speeding to get all the blood going as fast as possible.
Just wait until he got home, he was going to tell his dad ALL about how he flew by himself and how he didn't even fall once. Maybe then he'd let him join in family games!

Wheee!
The course was clear... for now. No, wait! Strike that! There was the little sister Hades flying beside him! "Hey! You're awesome at flying!'' Mhmm, she was. He had been observing her and some others for a bit. Anyway, he soared along beside the Snakette and soon spotted the wave from yet another lil sis. "Heya, Prankster Ava!'' He gave her a salute (thanks for the habit, Professor Suit a.k.a Flamsteed).
"Look out, Hades! Bludgers coming our way!'' Two of them as a matter of fact. It was as if they knew two students were zooming freely along the course.

"Thanks, so are you!" she called out in reply to Adi over the sound of the wind whipping through the air around her. Her big brother was great at flying too! She wasn't the best but at least she could stay on her broom. Oh! Lookit it's Ava! Raising her hand she waved at the younger girl. Hello xD
Huh, what was th-? Before she could even think about what to do she was ducking down and quickly leaning forward on her broom to not only speed up but move out of the way of those bludgers! Darn things came out of nowhere they did. Hady glanced over towards Adi. He was good, yes? "You okay over there Adi?"

Tiara chuckled at Angel's comment. Tiara had spent the first 14 years of her life exclusively in the muggle world, so she quite understood the love of the beautiful game. But she had also been a gymnast and a quidditch official, so her heart was more in the air than on the ground. But that didn't mean she couldn't understand the Gryffindor's sentiment. And despite what the girl said, her demeanor was becoming more and more confident.
The group on the obstacle course looked to be enjoying themselves. And she was happy to see a few brave beginners had begun to make their way over towards the courses as well. Even if they just did the easier course that was fine. The courage to take it on at all was worth a lot in Tiara's book.

Noelle shifted on her broom, gripping the handle tightly. This was far more fun than she had imagined it to be and she had imagined it pretty fun! She wasn't too far off the ground and she looked around at the other students that were on their brooms.
Then Olly was talking to her.
Noelle took one hand off to wave at him but became unsteady and gripped the handle again. "No, mum was never a good flyer and dad is a muggle. What about you?" she asked him and moved forward on her broom to move a little closer to him.
"Got any skills hiding under that broom Oliver??" She needed to see how he flew first, then maybe she could race him if he wasn't too good. The winner gets cake!! But first...
"Can you zip as fast as I can??"
She totally couldn't but hey... It was always about the bluff.

He playfully moved so that the broomstick would either rise up or drop a few inches as he flew alongside Hady. SUCH FUN! It was great being in the air this way again.
The Puffer protectively tried to keep track of Hady and her bludger but he saw that she was handling the situation quite well. Excellent! He focused on his own incoming bludger, doing a weird roll to get out of its path. Whew! Luckily his glasses hadn't fallen off... completely. He pushed the thing properly against his face and flashed a thumbs up at the concerned Hady. "All good. Ready for us to finish out this course?'' Snake and Badger teamwork for the world!

Hady cast her big bro a grin. He was great in her eyes but she hadn't really seen Benny's flying much. Where was he? "Oh? Is he around?" She quickly peeked over her shoulder to see if the boy in question was anywhere around. He could join them if he liked. With carefully adjusted movements the fourth year matched her speed and height along the older Puffers each time he moved. It was much more enjoyable flying along friends.
Whoa! Nice roll work there Adi! Hady laughed quietly flashing a thumbs up right back. Good, good he was alright. No injuries for either of them. "Totally!" More then ready even. The snakette evened out her speed letting herself fall back a few feet to fly beside Adi once more so they could finish the course together.

Reaching under her robes, Tiara pulled out her referee's whistle and brought it to her lips. The shrill noise pierced the cold air like a knife. "Alright, lesson's over. Time to head on up to the Great Hall for some lunch!" And maybe a hot beverage. Merlin, she couldn't wait for spring.
