The Dueling Club hall looks very much like it usually does, except that it seems as if someone thought it a good idea to cover the floor in soft, green grass. The benches have all been removed and it seems the only places for sitting are on the grass. Test it out with your (shoed) feet, and you will find it to be quite squishy and comfy. Is this a reward for the duels well done, or perhaps a trick?
Hanging down from the windows are banners with the names of the pairings of the first duels, and at the bottom of each banner, the winner. There is a small table near the windows, with hot chocolate, coffee, tea and a plate of cookies. The Professor is sitting on the grass in the middle of the room, coffee mug already beside him. Grab a snack and drink and join in the less than official meeting. Or would you prefer to stand?
------------------------------------------------- OOC: The meeting will start in approximately 12 hours. Please keep in mind this is a general overview meeting, and we will be moving quite quickly. As such, please be mindful of chatter. Questions, suggestions and all forms of feedback are welcome and encouraged! Welcome to the second meeting Duelers!

Long grass? Long grass was fun though! Char was OKAY with long grass so whatever Professor Sabel was trying to say with that analogy, she missed it entirely and instead beamed around at everyone.
SPOILER!!: Blaise and Roo

It wasn't like he was a sore loser........weeeeell.....actually he was, he really was. Why d'you think he gave up on magic? He hated losing to his wand. Now he'd gone and lost to another girl.
Having not taken a seat in the first place, he simply turned and headed toward Char, completely ignoring the banner she chose to be under. The little boy extended his hand albeit reluctantly but smiled. He wasn't mad at her, just the fact he lost.

He hadn't seen it coming, he was only doing what the Professor asked so the man wouldn't end up picking on him MOAR, but there it was. A hand. Yes. Shoving away his own before a boy all but yelled at him.
What did it matter that she had a boyfriend? "So what?" He asked, brows crinkling as he withdrew his hand. It was all the same to him. He didn't wanna have to shake her hand and pretend to be happy she beat him and he was the laughing stock of anyone who watched. Fine. Just fine. Blaise didn't know about her boyfriend, he didn't think he needed to.
"You gonna tell the Professor I can't sit next to her either on account of her having a boyfriend?" 'CauseProfessor Dakest said they had to sit with their partners. The Gryffindor didn't mind sitting with his housemate, so long as they didn't talk about the duel.
That being said and because he didn't take orders from Ravenclaws, he reached forward, grabbed Char's hand and gave it a bit of firm shaking. THERE then because he could. "You have nice hands." More shaking. All the shaking. Shaking was fun.

Oh look, Char was here! Davie mimed diligently taking a picture of her, because that was what best friends did even when they weren't really happy that their BFF had won and they had lost, because no hard feelings and all, losing just plain SUCKED, but but but Davie didn't get to say ANY of THAT, because now they all had to go be nice to the person they had lost to.
At least he wasn't Blaise in this situation. Everyone had seen his TKO at the hands of Char. With a sigh, Davie mumbled a "bye" to Rooney and his BFF and slowly trudged over to Eva. He patted poor Blaise's shoulder in pity as he passed him.

Maybe this was his first experience so... She's gonna give him some space.
Or maybe not. DANG! Professor Dakest wanted them to shake hand, congratulate, and sit with them? Well, this was gonna be awkward. Like the Professor had instructed, she stood up and walked towards the Ravenclaw boy. "Hey Davie..." She spoke to him and extended her hand in case if he wanted to shook her hand. "You did a good job..." She said truthfully. It was very intense, she almost couldn't cast the charm properly because Davie cursed her with jelly-finger curse. It was a smart move.
Now, onto Ava. Sigh. This sigh hadn't been deliberate, nor was it supposed to be audible, but it had accidentally come out when he shook Ava's hand. "No, you did a good job," he corrected her politely. "Nice job switching hands with your wand. I didn't expect that." And he hadn't known that was possible, for a first year.

Rooney waved bye to Mister David Truebridge when he left and turned his attention back to the HAND HOLDING ATTEMPTEE and Miss Charlotte. "Does Oliver know about him?" Oh yeah. She'd never told him her boyfriends name, but he HAD seen them. He had seen them and so he KNEW. He didn't sound at all bitter, but he shrugged and returned his hands to his pockets because now he'd just told the kid that Miss Charlotte MURDERED the name of her boyfriend. This was...going to get interesting.
Mucho.
He bet that neither of them complimented her daffodil hair. That was something that he did. In secret.
"...Would you go somewhere else if I did? I doubt it." Rooney bit the inside of his cheek to stop himself from talking more, because he was just looking like a problem child and he really didn't actually want to be here much longer. He just wanted to shake hands with Colt and try leave without anyone noticing. BUT THEN it all got a little bit too much and Roo bit harder on his cheek, watching closely and intensely at the hand touching and the shaking and -- nice hands. Rooney knew that. He had held her hand before at Christmas time, so he already knew.
"She has nice hair, too." And to combat the fact he was going to blush in the next two seconds, he shrugged and pretended that he saw Colt. Which he didn't. At all. Maybe Colt was taking a sleep in his dorm. "My partner.. I should...go and.... y'know...bye." And now, the grass really was greener on the other side, because Rooney crossed over away from the pair and went back to rocking on his heels because he didn't hAVE A PARTNER RIGHT NOW.

She was instantly distracted from her worry about unsent valentines cards because SHE WAS BEING COMPLIMENTED. Charlotte preeeeeened. Yes her hands were soft and nice and her hair was pretty and nice and they were SO RIGHT.
HOWEVER she was mystified at mention of Oliver? Olllllly Oliver? Did he know about her boyfriend? Is that what Roo meant? Because he did, because she'd told him yup.
And Roo was going (after only one compliment? Sad). Char smiled brightly and waaaved. He could go if he wanted, she didn't really understaaaand but... okay.
"Okay!" She didn't SEE his partner anywhere but then again she wasn't REALLY looking either, and she already knew that Roo was way more good at noticing things than she was, so probably he had noticed his partner and Char hadn't.
She turned her attention to Blaise (who had sent her a valentine obviously).
"You can say more nice things about me, if you like." She didn't mind. Especially because he knew she had a boyfriend. Really, she'd have to write to Wesley soon and tell him how NICE everyone was to her, all the boys! They gave her candy and compliments AND she beat them in duels!

So, mingling was happening. More or less. The less part being that Sabel couldn't help but feel that some students had missed the point of the instructions. The more being that it seemed to rub some nerves the wrong way. A heavy breath left him, and he drowned his bit of irritation in a good swig of coffee, before reassessing the situation.
SPOILER!!: Daxton

What he did have, however, were his shoes and socks. On his feet, where they would likely remain until he walked back out the door after the meeting. There really was no getting around the rule this time, and he was not one to break a rule purely for the sake of it - unless there was a loophole, which was technically not even breaking it. It just caused hassle, and, generally speaking, hassle was not what one wished for when they intended to keep a low profile.
Not that Daxton had really succeeded in keeping a low profile, not all the time anyway, but he still wanted to try, despite an innate tendency to stick out, thanks to being as strange as he was.
Ever since he had taken his seat, in an isolated, solitary space of floor/grass where nobody would bother him, Daxton had been picking away at the grass, not really knowing why, only that he felt compelled to do it. He continued, building up a neat little pile of shredded grass as Dakest went on about... more grass, grass growing, in a statement which made absolutely zero sense to the Ravenclaw.
Perhaps predictably, the task Dakest set them was not one that Daxton could complete; having not participated in a duel, having not had permission to compete in any duels, and having not had the (official) magical ability to partake in any case, he did not have a partner. He shredded the grass with slightly more vehemence then, and found it to be quite soothing, but after a few long moments Daxton suddenly stopped and looked around at those in the room. He considered everyone, the banners, Dakest, the grass, then flipped open the notebook he had brought along (the snapping one, an inexplicable gift from Char) and began fervently writing in it with his pen (also a gift from Char, just as inexplicable as the notebook). He did not move from his position, did not make eye contact with anyone, but occasionally Daxton glanced around at those gathered for the meeting as he wrote, surreptitiously listening in where he could, all the while keeping his notebook shielded so that nobody could peek at its contents if they felt so inclined. The words he wrote were not for the sake of communication this time, but something else entirely. Everyone else could just carry on as they were; Daxton was content to sit alone with his notebook, as he invariably was.
Actually, this worked out well. There would have been zero chances that Daxton would afford anyone a handshake. Or have a conversation with anyone. Or indeed take part in what he deemed a pointless interaction with anyone at all. And yet, he still seemed to find some value in being here for this, if the scribbling in his notebook was anything to go by.
Sabel's attention once again snagged on Prince, who seemed to be doing a sort of lawn-mowing with his fingers. Couldn't really blame the kid, given the activity didn't really involve those who hadn't participated in the duel. It turned a cog in Sabel's brain as he took another sip of coffee.
At least the kid was finding something productive to do in the intern?
SPOILER!!: Maggie & Zeke & Hady

Like. The duel had been awesome, no?
When Zeke joined her she took his hand in hers. Before she was able to say anything, however, the meeting had started and Professor Dakest was talking...and more talking...and she wasn't entirely sure just WHAT he was saying. Maggie was too busy looking happy to pay attention to everything.
Oh. Handshakes? So, Hady. Okay. Maggie made sure to catch Hady's eye FIRST before turning to Zeke again. "I'll be right back." She said quietly. And then she kissed him right then and there. Ahem. Professor Dakest wouldn't mind right? Like, it wasn't THAT long or anything.
Afterwards she quickly made her way over to where Hady was. "Hiii." They'd of course already interacted and stuff after the duel so this whole gesture thing was a bit over the top in her opinion. Nonetheless, Maggie offered the other girl her hand. "It really WAS a great duel." See? No resentment or anything. Nope.

Averting hi gaze back to the Professor of the moment, Zeke retuned Sabel's nod, but remained silent. It was Maggie's hand in his that received the most amount of recognition, and in spite of everything, he was glad she was okay... that mattered. He squeezed her hand a little as their 'lecture' of sorts, was underway.
The whole 'grass is greener' thing... went over his head. He couldn't think of this in that way right now, there was still a lot to process. But when they were instructed to find their partner and shake hands, he inhaled a breath and stood a little straighter. He had to. "Oka----," he'd been about to say, before Maggie's lips met his. No complaints here. Just a kiss back before she scooted off the find Hady.
.....
He glanced quickly at Sabel, because sorry not sorry, and the grin he was now wearing said as much. HE COULDN'T HELP IT, OKAY?!
...
But it was Kyroh he was supposed to show respect for, so looking one way and the next, Zeke tried to find the fifth year Ravenclaw.

Everything that was being said about the grass being greener on the other side and the grass growing taller she actually UNDERSTOOD. The words could mean nearly anything the person hearing them wanted them to mean. What now? She had to go over to Maggie and shake hands or something like that....well alright it was fine they had already done this.
Hady set her coffee down beside her bag and rose to her feet letting her eyes meet Maggie. She walked the few feet to the other girl meeting her half way taking the hand that was stretched out before her. "Hey," she greeted quietly with a firm nod of her head. No doubt about it that their duel had been great but they were supposed to talk about what went good or bad. There was only one thing she could think right then. Focus. She had lost hers and in that brief second that her focus had been on something else it caused injury to her partner. "On my part I know I lost focus for a few seconds. A few seconds much to long honestly but you were a great partner all the way through." Serious compliment there. The blonde was tough and she proved it out there during their duel never backing down. They were snakes and it's how they worked.
He had to shake his head a little bit at Maggie. Of course, shake with a grin. At least the girl had a chipper attitude about things. Almost more than enough. Especially with that PDA, with Mr. Browne. Well then.
Zeke got the arched eyebrow out of the two, when his well understood grin came Sabel's way. Dear Merlin. These kids grew up fast. At least, it was a quick gesture, and not too lingering. Though the place and timing of it had a right to be questioned.
At least Lynch had the decency to be relatively productive with the comments she provided.
SPOILER!!: Yoongi

It was perhaps weird for Yoongi to be quiet but he was. He kept thinking about all of this. Before the first meeting he was super excited and thought it would be fun. But now that they had done the challenge and their first duel, he had his doubts. It hit him that they werent doing this for fun. They were actually getting trained to protect themselves and attack others. It was the last part he had troubles with. He didnt want to hurt his fellow students and he wondered how the Professor had to live with the thought that he and his Auror team had to attack someone in order to protect.
Shaking his head, the Gryffindor sighed loudly as he began to look around for his opponent. A quick glance around and he realised that she wasn't there yet. Now he thought about it, he hadn't seen her in the previous meeting either. Perhaps she hadn't signed up for the meetings as that had been a choice. Making a mental note to find the Ravenclaw later if she didn't show up, Yoongi began to tear the grass out of the ground absentmindly.
Speaking of productivity, it seemed he had another grass mower on his hands. It was strange seeing Hyland so down and glum. And nothing about the boy's personal appearance seemed to be muffed. So, what then was eating at him?
Sabel cast a small frown in the kid's direction before deciding it was best not to call attention to it.
SPOILER!!: Adi

Did Dakest realise that he had helped make his final year even more awesome?
....................
The Hufflepuff sat there, happily munching away on his cookies and sipping on the hot chocolate. He smiled brightly when he saw Benny. His teeth might have been caked with bits of cookie haha Who cared? Not Benny, he was sure. "Hiya! Cookies, fat boy?'' Ehehe. Their little joke there. And yes. Adi was sharing those cookies.
...................
As Dakest started addressing them, he turned his attention to the man. All this talk about grass... was that the reason they were sitting on it? Heh. Excuse his thinking. The sugar combination must be messing with his head. Ah, man! They had to move? Adi wanted to sit right here, though. Wait... he scanned the grassy place. Cutty wasn't there as yet so that meant he was partnerless. For now at least until the Slytherin showed up. So sitting with Benny it was, while they waited on their partners since Polly wasn't there either.
Instead, he would address Rehman's choice of response. With a rather arched eyebrow and disapproving frown. "Who told you I was nice?" The lies. He'd have to stamp them out sooner or later.
Still, he couldn't stay reproachful for long, and he let his gaze soften just a little bit. Enough to give an acknowledging nod back to the kid on this thanks.

Because she was friends with David and David was the son of Big Red, and Big Red probably knew important people, which meant that by five hundred degrees of separation, Rooney knew important people. To get to where he wanted in the world, he needed to KNOW important people and mingle with them. So David needed to be on his side and start throwing dinner parties with all the important people his parents knew. Just. Saying. He managed a smile, nothing too eager, when Miss Charlotte mentioned their plan to find her an arch enemy. "That's true. I'm still looking."
He WAS considering Olly, though. Turn her against her boyfriend.
"The grass isn't wet," he pointed out, helpfully before shuffling his feet and sipping his water some more. At that point, his attention moved towards the Professor there and he rocked back and forth on his feet as he observed the banners. The bloody banners. But what was this all about grass? Rooney didn't understand it and he wasn't sure how he was supposed to. He knew that there was a saying about the grass being greener on the other side but what was this about grass growing long quickly? Was that something about how bad some of them had been? He was confused and he didn't like it. The second year looked around for his duelling partner, who was not currently here and shoved his hands in his pockets. "Colt???" Hey, he didn't like the kid, so he wasn't too upset about him not being here right now.
And shaking hands was n--"Hey!" Rooney gave Blaise's hand a push away from Miss Charlotte and frowned. "SHE has a BOYFRIEND." A boyfriend that wasn't here. Yeah, Olly. YEAH. Hogwarts was MARVELOUS!
And then.....there were the three musketeers. At first, Sabel didn't pay the group much mind. Charlotte was an energetic little thing, Blaise had a bit of spunk and well, Rooney he didn't yet know too well. What he did notice, was when the later took to slapping the middle-man's hand away. And all manner of non-duel related conversation sprung up.
And it didn't dwindle or die away either. It just kept getting watered by all sorts of nonsense. By the time Sabel was done his cup of coffee, his mind was made up. Thankfully, so was Rooney's. Walking away, even though he was the one that started it.
Letting out a breath, Sabel clapped his hands together and pushed himself to his feet. "Rooney, Blaise, Zeke, Maggie, Daxton. All of you, up front please."
And while he was waiting for them to get themselves organized, Sabel started towards the refreshment table, speaking to the rest of the class. "Ms. Lynch brought up a good point, that focus is a key factor of these duels. Not just focus on what you are doing, but why you are doing it. Who you are doing it against."
He paused, considering the assortment of things he had before turning and walking among the students. Every now and then, he would pause and ask for a mug that was still rather full. "It was apparent in two extremes this time around. Some of you were reluctant to cast on your fellow classmates, or be harsh in your spells on them. One of you went so far as to undo your own spells during the duel. This, is admirable in knowing your limits and not getting caught up in the moment."
Another pause, another cup. Thank you. "Others, knew the risk of leaving any opportunity of opposition to chance, and negated all possible retaliations. Commendable, in knowing where to brace your limits and how far one should and can go."
Two more cups? Yes please. "What we are going to work on today, is replacing that hesitation and over-thinking, and worrying, with the mindset of what needs to be done." Oh was that a half-finished cookie? Very tempting. "Of course, excercising due restraint and evaluation."
He moved back to the front. "Keep in mind that while today you are dueling friends and colleagues, tomorrow, or several years from now you may be dueling dark wizards, or friends who are no longer so. It's important to maintain an objective distance from your target, no matter how subjective a place they hold in your past, or in your heart."
Stopping up front with his volunteers, Sabel held up the mugs he had gathered. "Here is what we are going to do. Rooney and Blaise will pair up, as will Zeke and Maggie. Rooney, you will be protecting Blaise and Zeke, you Maggie. Daxton, I'll be protecting you. You will each also have one of these, atop your heads." And, without waiting for protests, Sabel moved to each student and placed mug atop heads with a bit of a sticking charm, also providing a cooling charm for those that still had hot liquid in them. The last mug, he put on his head, doing the same.
Then, he turned back to the rest of the students. "Now, your task is simple. You are to try to knock these mugs off each of our heads. If you manage to knock it off the head of the protected, Maggie, Blaise or Daxton first that pair is forfeit. If you knock both mugs off, that pair is forfeit. Forfeited pairs will join the class and attempt to remove the mugs from the remaining pairs. For those of you 'attacking', do so one at a time. You may throw off a maximum of three spells at a time to try and dislodge one, or two mugs, or knock down the pairs. Once you've tried attacking one pair, you may go try another. You must rotate through all pairs before attempting the first pair again."
Simple enough, right? "Maggie, Blaise, Daxton, you are allowed to assist your partner in so far as ducking and dodging the spells that come at you, but you must remain within five feet of your partner and you cannot cast to defend yourself or them. You may however, cast a maximum of one spell per attack, at the student who is opposing your pair. Attackers, keep in mind that you might get knocked off your feet if you aren't paying attention."
"Zeke and Rooney. Your job, as is mine, is to defend yourself and your partner. You may cast up to a maximum of two spells per attack, to defend only. Consider how you might do this, and choose your spells and your tactics carefully."
He turned back to the rest of the class. "The point of this? Practice. Aim. Decisiveness. Resolution. Commitment. And judgment."
Did they all understand? Clear as mud? Good. "Begin!"
------------------------------------------
OOC: Alrighty, so this might be a bit confusing XD
Here's how it's gonna work. There are three pairs:
Zeke (protector) & Maggie (protected)
Rooney (protector) & Blaise (protected)
Sabel (Protector) & Daxton (protected)
The rest of the class are the 'Attackers'.
Each 'Attacker' picks a pair to attack. They may use up to three spells in their attack (this may be all in one post, or over several posts), but a total of three. The goal is to knock the mugs off the protected's head (will eliminate that pair) or both the protector & the protected's head (will eliminate that pair). Once you've made an attempt (successfully or unsuccessfully) on a pair, and once the defenders have had time to respond (i.e. you've completed your attack & defenders are not returning fire) then you can try another pair.
Defenders, your job is to keep the mugs on your heads. Protectors can cast up to 2 defending spells (total) to protect themselves/their partners. Protected's can cast 1 attack spell at the attacker, and can only physically move (while remaining in close proximity to the protector) to defend themselves.
The number of casts are PER attacker.
Please be realistic. Please let your opponents decide the outcome of the spells.
Once a pair has been forfeited, they disband and join the attackers.
We've got until November 30th for the club. I'll wind down the activity on the 29th, and we'll end on the 30th. So please enjoy until them
Also, if you are interested pairings for next duelings have been determined. I'll be working on getting the threads up, and duels will open on October 30th Please review the Q&A before STARTING your duel, as there will be some new information on there by October 30th

The look he received from Sabel was enough to distract him from his Kyroh search. Was that going to go in a letter? He would hope it wouldn’t… there was no need to go breaking bro-code on him. The gesture was harmless. Admitedly he wasn’t sure how or why Maggie was so… happy, but he didn’t question it, she was cute like that.
It wasn’t long until their attention was being called, and Zeke found himself turning his head to assess Sabel. Huh? Up the front? He looked to Maggie before turning to look at the others, and back to Sabel. He figured they weren’t in trouble, so he was the first to move into position up at the front. From here he listened to the rest of the spiel.
Focus… that made sense, not just action but purpose, yes… ad then all the rest of what was said had a pit forming in his stomach. His duel was one of those two extremes, and the ONE that undid their own spells… was him. Had nobody else done that? Had it not gotten to that point for the others? After Maggie’s duel, and his own, he hadn’t been in the right mind frame to pay attention to the others… which was a shame, because he could have learned a lot from watching the others.
Whatever task they were going to be asked to complete, Zeke was visibly curious, a slight frown of concentration was etched in his forehead. He was being tasked with protecting Maggie? That much he could do, this wouldn’t be a problem. He offered her a smile, winking to say he had her back, "We've got this." No pressure though, right? But… WHAT? Cups on their heads?
Zeke froze as a cup was indeed fixed to his head. Merlin. People were going to aim at their HEADS?!
On top of that, he could only cast two spells per attack? He was more of a PHYSICALLY AVOID as opposed to MAGICALLY DEFEND kinda guy. This would be harder than anticipated, still, prepared, his wand was summoned from its holster and he gripped it comfortable in his palm.
Maggie was still very much bothered by how unperturbed Hady was.
Rude.
"Yes, we were both great!" Like, the bestest. Slytherins. They were Slytherins after all, so naturally they'd-
They'd do what now?
Oh. Was she in trouble after all? But then again there were three other people with them so it couldn't be about the snog right? No. Returning Zeke's quick look with one of her own, she moved to stand in the front beside him. Would they have to demonstrate something? Had they been the most talented duelers? But then again, there were three younger students there too. Eh.
Maggie was listening closely this time seeing as it was probably relevant to what she was currently doing in the front of the classroom. They hadn't held back so that didn't apply. Hmm. And what was Dakest doing with all those cups? Cups song? Would he line them up somewhere and make them shoot them down with spells? Maybe that's what they would have to be doing.
COME AGAIN?????
HE HAD PUT ONE OF THE CUPS ON HER HEAD???????
She was too SHOCKED to do anything right away, only turning to Zeke to give him another look. There. Was. A. Cup. On. Her. Head. Like...whaaat??? And Zeke would have to protect her. Like, she wasn't even allowed to protect herself??? At least she was allowed to use offensive spells. Those were better anyway. But still, people would be sending SPELLS AT THEIR HEADS. What if someone's aim was off and they like hit her face instead??????
"I'll hold you personally responsible if anything happens to my face." Maggie said, stepping closer to Zeke until she could hug him from behind. Which in this case was not necessarily a gesture of affection. More like, to protect herself. But hey. He wouldn't be able to turn around then. OMG WHAT WERE THEY SUPPOSED TO DO?? She let go again, drawing her wand and turning so her back was against his. Was this the way to do this???? Maybe HE should be hugging HER from behind??? AAAAAAAAAHHH!!!
Henric was just quietly listening at the back and observing until Professor Dakest announced to the class that they were about to have an activity.*Sigh*...he wasn't in the mood for this but alright then...he was not going to be a spoilsport for anything. He was game. He stood up and waited for the professor to give all the instructions they needed to hear.
So he was with the attack team? Ummm...okay...so what were they supposed to do again? Ahh rightt...try to knock the mug off their heads! Hmm...and how was he supposed to do that without injuring nobody? He wouldn't use harmful spells of course, it was never in his nature to do that. He guessed he could try using the summoning charm or the knockback 'Flipendo' jinx. Wait, they had the 'protectors' with them, right? Well...well...well...what did we have here? A couple of first years and a fourth year 'rumoured' couple? Interesting selection....
He smiled to himself. He had no problems aiming for the couple. Nope...not a problem. Too bad it wasn't Messer holding onto that mug on her head, he would love to get back at her for destroying all of his precious and dreamy hair. It took HOURS! HOURS! Deng it! To regrow his hair. Urgh...no matter...it was time to get serious...
He twirled his wand in his hand.Oh...Zeke seemed pretty determined to protect Maggie. Henric was usually nice and be passive from attacking....but today...just not that day. Sorry...
Henric aimed towards the mug on Maggie's head,"Flipendo!"
Absorbed though he was in his sudden interest in note-taking, Daxton was still quite aware of what was going on around him. So, when Dakest started talking, around the time that Daxton had just finished writing a particularly long sentence about the group sitting not too far from him, he was tuned in and listening.
The mention of his own name took the Ravenclaw by surprise, and he became very still with his pen still touching the page before he even looked up. Him? Why him? What was Dakest up to? Very suspicious.
Daxton did not get up at first, but stared in the professor's general direction, trying to work out if this was some sort of trick. He was tempted to refuse to go up there at all, but curiosity - and, though he would never admit it, a desire to be included in the proceedings, to have something to do in this club - prompted him into action. Tucking his notebook and pen away into his pocket (with some difficulty, thanks to the whole uniform thing), Daxton pushed himself up to his feet and stepped up to the front of the room with the others. He kept his eyes on Dakest all the while, wary and ever so suspicious, watching as he collected mugs and trying to work out the man's plan. None of his ideas held very promising prospects.
And then, the activity was announced, and his mood darkened at once. 'Daxton, I'll be protecting you.' Unacceptable, totally unacceptable. Daxton did not need protecting, he was not a victim, and now he was being thrust into a situation where that was exactly the case. For someone so independent and self-reliant, the prospect was utterly reprehensible. He even opened his mouth to try and protest, knowing that his notebook would be difficult to quickly wrestle back out from his pocket but feeling every need to argue, but of course the words refused to come. Added to that, they had mugs on their heads? So he had to look like an idiot too?
The expression on Daxton's face could only be described as murderous as he looked from Dakest to the students who would be attacking them, fully prepared to remember all the faces of anyone who went for him. He had his wand too, and withdrew it from up his sleeve where it was kept. Maybe he could not cast any official spells, but Daxton had learnt how to send a nasty zap at anyone who ticked him off, without the need for an incantation. It was satisfying.
As soon as Dakest called for them to begin, Daxton stepped straight over - fully aware of the ridiculous addition of a half-emptied mug atop his head, and adjusting his balance accordingly, though this would have been much easier to do without wearing shoes, Professor - and stood directly behind the man, like a living shadow. Despite his indignation about being assigned the role as one of the 'protected', Daxton was fully prepared to do what it took to protect himself, and if that meant using Dakest as a human shield, then so be it. The man could let himself look like an idiot, and get a mug of some liquid or other get blasted off his head, but Daxton was keeping his own head out of the line of fire. He paid attention to what Dakest was doing, though, ready to step back out of his way if necessary, to move along with him and stay shielded, considering they were at the front of the room with everyone right there before them, and to do what he could to avoid any flying spells. Daxton may have been tall for his age, but Dakest was taller, and broader, and he was going to use that to his advantage while he could.

Taking it all in stride now. That's what was happening. Everything would have a time and a place to either happen or not happen. What was not happening right this very second was her getting upset over anything. Lessons were lesson, duels were duels and everything else in between was a valued learning experience. Her feelings for anything would be handled later on when she had time to focus on herself. Clearly here and now wasn't that time.
Hady sported her typical smirk as Maggie agreed with her. Of course the blonde would. Slytherin's were nothing less the the best. That's just how they rolled. Opening her mouth to say something she stopped short turning to look over her shoulder at Professor Dakest when she heard her name. Oh, it was nothing bad she had simply made a good point. Well thank you Professor. She gave a slight nod of her head to show she heard that.
Still though she didn't get to say a word to Maggie as a group was called to Dakest and cup placed on their heads. Something about protecting and defending themselves and one another. Well alright then. Hady quickly grabbed her coffee off the floor along with her bag and moved off to the side out of harms way to watch the happenings. Something was always learned from watching others.

Once the Professor started the activity, the young lioness stood up and decided being the team attacker. Well, sorry for those who's gonna be attacked by her. "Expelliarmus!" She sent the disarming charm to Zeke's hand.

Adi listened keenly to Dakest. Okay, yeah. Maybe, jut maybe, he had been reluctant to throw the more dangerous spells at Cutty but he would feel that way for all his friends. No dangerous ones unless he was up against someone evil.
He watched with interest as Dakest called upon five students to help him out with the activity. Hmmm. Interesting! Adi's eyes flicked to Roo and Blaise. There just had to be a spell holding those mugs to their heads. The basic Sticking charm, maybe?
"Finite!'' he thought, raising his wand and aiming for Blaise's mug. Another silent incantation was cast. The Knockback Jinx this time. Here's to hoping for good results!

She would hold him responsible if anything happened to her face? He figured as much. “… I can’t promise anything.” Legit, because he wasn’t about to break promises, not over something like this.
Zeke supported her stance behind him, it was the safest option, she could shoot around him if she needed to, but at least this way her pretty little head was protected… and her cup too.
As ready as he was to defend, it still surprised him when it came. And in fact, what startled him most was that somehow the Hufflepuff dudes spell was cast at Maggie! SHE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE SAFE BEHIND HIM! “Protego!” he cast, defending her from the impact.
But as prepared as he was for something like THAT, he was complete unprepared for a disarming charm, and so without much warning, his wand was plucked out of his hands, landing to the other side of Maggie which he quickly scrambled after, the cup still secured to his head.
SHOOOOOOOOOOOT!
So… was she going to do any attacking any time soon? A distraction would be handy.

Tia had been listening quietly to Dakest explaining and going over dueling and how they can better improve on themselves. They had to knock a mug off the head of one of their peers; which seemed relatively simple enough but somehow the sixth year sense it was to be more challenging than Dakest let on.
Standing solely for a moment, reflecting on charms and jinxes, she watched as fellow attackers chose to go for Zeke/Maggie or Roo/Blaise. But if the team attack was to win, they needed people to challenge the professor, who was protecting fellow Ravenclaw.
What she needed was a strong spell, something to counter what was attaching it to Daxton's head. Water.
"Aqua Eructo!" Tia cast, a jetstream of water shooting from her wand tip towards the mug on Daxton's head. Here's hoping for the best. If nothing more, it'll create a slippery floor from the water, right?

She watched Zeke's wand fallen down from his wand.
It worked?
YAAAAAAAAAY!!!!
Ava was always confident with her disarming charm because she had practiced it very often. She couldn't help but throw her fist to the air like she had won lottery or something. And it seemed like she's not the only one who's aiming for the 'actual' couple. She noticed that Henric was too. "Hey, brother! Why don't we teamed up and attack them together?" The young lioness suggested. They would be an AWESOME team. Hehehe. And now she had the protector down, time to attack the main target! But well, what spell that she needed to use? Okay.... "Impedimenta!" She cast the spell and attack the girlfriend. No hard feelings, okay?

Oh the spell rebounded and he was knockback onto the floor. Okay OW! Despite his failure to counter the spell, Henric couldn't help but having fun with this. Oooh, he was going to play that game?! Alrighty then! He quickly got up onto his feet and was about to cast another spell towards Zeke but Ava beat him to it. Amazing! Ava managed to disarm Zeke's wand!"Nice work Ava! Let's show them what we made of eh?"he grinned. But of course he wouldn't do anything seriously foul towards his schoolmates...nooo.
Henric aimed for Zeke's leg,"Locomotor Mortis!" He wouldn't be able to retrieve his wand so fast right?
Maggie ducked instinctively even though Zeke managed to cast a shield around them just in time for Henric's spell to bounce off it. So far, so good. This was WAY more stressful than the one-on-one duel somehow. It reminded her a little of what they'd been talking about in Charms class. About this Flitwick guy and how sometimes there were more than one oppo-

Useless, this guy was 100% useless. What even?????
He'd managed to LOSE HIS WAND!!!!!!
Great, and now Ava and Henric were teaming up against them. Maggie let out a groan, not quite sure who to aim her spell at first. But then again, seeing as Ava had just sent a spell at her it wasn't exactly a difficult decision after all. "Everte Statum!" She said, pointing her wand at Ava while sidestepping the spell sent her way, quickly making her way over to where Zeke was.
"ZEKE!!" She shrieked, sending him a rather frustrated glare. Like, what was taking him so long??? And there was a spell coming his way too. Did he see it? Because there was literally nothing SHE could do. She had her hands full with Ava there.

Good! Henric wanted to be teamed up with her. Come on, team-working is necessary in this task, right? Together, they could beat up this lovey dovey couple. Ehehehe. While her partner dealt with Zeke, Ava thought that it would be better if she headed up against Maggie.
.............................
But her impediment jinx didn't aim too well. Instead, Maggie attacked her with Everte Statum and it successfully threw her backward. "Ouch!!"
Lucky that she wasn't injured badly.
She stood up and threw another spell towards the girlfriend. "MUFFLIATO!!" Hopefully it could disturb her hearing ability so she wouldn't be able to hear any spells that she throw. "HENRIC!" She shouted to her partner. "Time to knock her mug!" This was a really good chance, right?

Yeah, thanks for being nice, Ava. Davie kind of shrugged at her compliment and when the professor moved on to the next activity, moved himself away and back to stand by Charlotte. Both Rooney and Blaise had been drafted for this attack-and-defend game, so Davie was going to watch them lose try to get along and stuff. He wouldn't attack them though, no no. They were his friends. Instead, he was going to go after Daxton Prince, who to Davie's knowledge, hadn't cast a single spell yet this year. Sure, he was being protected by the professor, but the professor was also watching everyone and trying to run the whole club. So Davie started with a spell he'd been practicing in secret ever since Ava Burton had used it on him.
"Tarantallegra!" the first year cast, eagerly and swiftly aiming for Daxton's legs in the hopes that he would tap-dance that mug right off his head.

What puzzled Rooney the MOST was that Miss Charlotte hadn't pleaded for him to stay and SAVE her from Blaise. Which...well, did that mean that Blaise was her boyfriend and she just couldn't TELL Rooney that? Did she have two boyfriends? Was that a thing? Or was... No. No, Davie wasn't Miss Charlotte's boyfriend. Rooney would have KNOWN. He shared a common room with him. He'd have GUESSED. It just wasn't possible. It had to be Blaise. -- But why would Miss Charlotte knock him out in a duel? Man, this was all just so confusing. Either way, Miss Charlotte had a boyfriend, BUT she didn't want Rooney to get a girlfriend and it was all very.... strange.
However, he was taken from his heart problems to the direction of Professor Dakest. Who was... Was he... ??? Oh no. He was CALLING HIM UP TO THE FRONT. AND BLAISE. This was going to be the worst moment of his life. Had he ruined everything? Was he going to get detention for telling Blaise NOT to hold a taken girls hand? And even worse.... detention with one of Miss Charlotte's potential boyfriend? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. OH NO. This hadn't been his attention - he had walked away before Blaise was able to somehow knock himself out on thin air. The Ravenclaw very reluctantly shuffled towards the front, making sure to give Blaise a LOOK whilst doing so. A look that said "she doesn't want me to get a boyfriend, so I think you might lose your title on day". Or something of that nature. It probably looked a little like he was confused or trying to use the toilet. Either way, it was COMPLETELY aimed at Blaise. Hands in pockets, he blinked and listened...
Protect?
Was this a joke?
He did some more of the blinking and then even more of it and...more. He did not want to protect Blaise. What did he even need protecting from? Himself? A girl? Oh hohohoooooo. Hehehehe. GOLLY. He looked up at the mug put on his head and thought very hard about if he would complete this task properly or just let Blaise take a few hits. For the laughs. Maybe what Rooney actually needed was time away from this castle and the students, because he was going crazy. Actually crazy. Girl crazy and book crazy and generally crazy. Why.
Roo moved to stand in front of Blaise, wand at the ready and listened to the rest of the instructions given to then. He was already feeling a little queasy at the thought of having to defend defend defend. Hadn't they ALL seen that it took him getting extremely annoyed to even cast a proper shield charm? Was this because he had LOST his duel?! This was a horrible punishment. He had already felt so bad about it that he had cried taken a very long walk on the grounds and cried. But fine.

............... Well okay, Adi. Rude.
He reached up with his hand and held onto his own mug, as he had moved right in front of Blaise and was clearly going to take the full brunt of the 'finite'. Luckily, by stepping in front of Blaise, and taking him a little with him, he was able to have got them both out of it. Or maybe his mug wasn't stuck to his head properly anymore. He didn't know. He was pretty still, AND holding onto it. BUT Blaise's was still there, which meant that they were still in this thing and Adi was SO not getting their mugs off. GOSH.
Wand at the ready again, Rooney watched the Hufflepuff move his wand and immediately cast a loud "Protego!", almost a little bit smug about how good he was getting at casting a shield.

Char wasn't sure if she was glad that SHE didn't get picked to go up and be one of the people at the front, or bothered by it (because hadn't she won her duel? Wasn't she the reason that Stupefy got banned and everything?), but at least she got to buddy up with Davie.
Which of course she was planning to do.... only she wasn't about to cast on Daxton who looked a bit like he wanted to assassinate someone himself (she'd try to make him feel better about it later maybe?).
And OBVIOUSLY she wasn't going to attack Roo and Blaise! She didn't want to wreck the chance of more compliments!
SO that meant her targets were that older boy and girl. She aimed at the girl and enthusiastically cast, "Rictusempra!"

It was duelling club, so he was suppose to be doing just that. Duelling. Or rather, attacking like Professor Dakest had instructed. Except....Kyroh didn't really feel like attacking at all.
His left hand held on loosely to his wand, while his right one- slightly bandaged - was resting in his sweater pocket. Shifting his weight from one foot to he next he stared as every attacked and the ones at the front defend. Just how did the defenders defend the oncoming of spells? Shielding charm was the most obvious, but there were other ways, and he was more interested in observing that then attack.
Sorry Professor.
He was paying attention though......doing what needed to be done. Hm.

See, he was getting rather used to Prince's moody looks and stares, and all the like. So when the boy's mouth did the telltale downward turn, Sabel really couldn't help himself. He grinned, made sure his mug was fixed properly atop his head, and said rather casually. "Welcome to the dark side, we have cookies."
And with that, he produced a cookie from his pocket, dipped it in the remaining liquid on the top of his head and took a bite out of it. Duels were serious, life didn't always have to be. With a grin, and chewing on the rest of his cookie, Sabel turned to face the attackers.
And Merlin they didn't waste any time. Already Zeke and Maggie were being rather bombarded with spells. That distracted him for a moment. Hadn't he said attack one at a time? But then again, maybe a sort of 'buddy system' with the attackers would work too. There was enough one-on-one in the duels to dry up a camel. But that meant, that defending pairs didn't have to be so isolated as one might have thought.
He also noticed a few students sitting out on the sidelines, a Kyroh and a Hady in particular. Interesting tactic, unless they were the reserves.
All of this took about a second to process, but it was a dear second that nearly lost him Daxton's mug for sure. With a quick flick of his wrist, Sabel snapped up his wand with "Protego", putting a deflecting shield up between the jetstream and Daxton. But the deflection wasn't aimed back at Tia, but rather towards the compounding defender-problem-pair of Henric and Ava.
Of course, distractions were distractions. And yes, there was a good one in Davie. Sabel had noticed him, but hadn't been entirely concerned when he didn't see any conviction in the boy's eyes. Bad mistake, and rookie one at that. Apparently dueling children was a bit harder to do than dark wizards. Who would have thought?
One moment he was watching the water spurt away from him, and the next he heard the dreaded dancing spell. He was certain that Daxton was about as nimble a dancer as he was, and that was rather ill speaking. But, he was also certain that there was no way a side! lunge! dart! deke! or dodge! would be understood in time. So, he did the only sensible thing to do.
His free hand clamped onto the mug and his body jumped right in front of the oncoming spell. And there the dueling club had it, a dancing Defense Professor. If they had ever seen his regular dancing, they would have thought it bad. This, then, was attrocious! The mug clattered between the saucer and his hand with that jarring, china chime, and some of the liquid sloshed over.
Dear Merlin it was hard to even aim at his own feet. Tongue out, concentration and mug in hand, he took a moment, made sure the air was clear of attacking spells and cast a quick finite. The relief, was liberating.

OOC: So I realized that the one-on-one attack method isn't going to work and will make things tricky with RPing (and I forgot to state it in the rules...XD) So you can team up to attack, and yes you can team up to defend too (though your main focus should be defending your partner). Again, each attacker RPer gets 3 spells/pair, each protector gets 2 defending spells/attacker, and each protected gets 1 attacking spell/attacker

When he reached his wand, Zeke performed the Gripping Charm so that he would go losing his wand any time soon.
He was already rising when more spells started firing at them.
THEY WERE IN THE WARS!!!!!
Jumping forward, he bumped Maggie all the while aiming and casting his next defences.
SPOILER!!: Ava

Little Burton had wasted time in making her alliance though, so he was prepared for the attacks that came, only Maggie too was quick, so he was thankful that they could share that load.
SPOILER!!: Henric

Alrighty then! He quickly got up onto his feet and was about to cast another spell towards Zeke but Ava beat him to it. Amazing! Ava managed to disarm Zeke's wand!"Nice work Ava! Let's show them what we made of eh?"he grinned. But of course he wouldn't do anything seriously foul towards his schoolmates...nooo.
Henric aimed for Zeke's leg,"Locomotor Mortis!" He wouldn't be able to retrieve his wand so fast right?
There was no time for compliments in war, did they not know this?
Zeke managed to block and deflect the spell as easily as it had been cast, "Protego!"
SPOILER!!: Maggie

ARE YOU KIDDING ME, ZEKE?????
As quickly as they got into a bind, they were out of it, so he stole a moment to look Maggie up and down. She was okay, her shriek hadn't been... bad... perhaps predictive, but all was still well.
SPOILER!!: Ava

.............................
And Ava was RELENTLESS, didn't she know there were others to attack too? Geez.
The Muffliato was NOT appreciated, but it was easily countered. "Finite," he cast before pulling Maggie by the elbow to throw off Henric's aim, because a shot would be coming... these two weren't giving up on them.

He decided he didn't like defending, he'd rather be attacking, he had thought this from the start, but now it was becoming incredibly evident. It wasn't even so much that defending was hard (because it was, and that was fine) but because he wanted to exact revenge on EVERY so and so that tried to attack his girlfriend! WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?!
He was hoping Maggie would be able to dodge another herself, because he had a plan. And though his plan could indeed backfire, and backfire nicely... it was still worth a shot. They were supposed to be aiming at their mugs, so for them to do that they needed to see. "Fumos!" he had cast at the same time as a younger Gryffindor girl. He had aimed at the space bordering where the attackers were congregating, hoping this would buy them some time.
"Invisibility?" he questioned Maggie, meaning, would she be okay if he disillusioned her?
