Challenge #1 Both club members and non-club members may participate in the challenge, though only club members will reap the benefits (if any) for the tournament duels.
The first challenge of the dueling club is presented in a room off the practice hall. The room is not really a room, but an alleyway. Several stories of rather rickety looking and unstable balconies and verandas loom above you as you step onto the street. A few feet ahead of you, the street disappears into a pit, a pit that is in the form and place of the street. The cobblestones on either side of the maw look like they are hanging on by a few threads.
There are several open doors along the narrow, crumbly side-paths and a few planks of wood, rope and other things one might expect to find in an alleyway. To your left there is a door, and a rickety staircase leading up.
Your challenge? Get to the other side of the alleyway, and find the flag at the end on the roof. The rules? You are not allowed to touch the cobblestone pathway. Most staircases are destroyed so a simple climb up is not an option. Oh, and no magic. All wands are to be left in a basket at the start of the maze. Don't worry, they will be returned to you at the end of the challenge.
So, how will you get across and up?
------------------------------------ OOC: And here it is! First challenge. Pretty simple. To complete the challenge, please do a minimum of 3 posts (they can be as long, or short, as you would like).
The complexity of the path you choose is up to you, but keep in mind it should not be straightforward. Your character should have to utilize some creative methods to get to their destination. Whether it's swinging like Tarzan or parkouring up walls like assassins
Those who complete the challenge will receive 2 extra Fatigue points to go towards their tournament duels. Please mark COMPLETE as the title for your last post, so that I can easily reference who has completed the task and who hasn't [/i]

"That's the spirit." Sabel smiled fondly at the little Slytherin. She had some spark to her, including the way she was eyeing him as if he might be yet another part of the challenge. Well now, that was an interesting idea....
For the moment, he turned his attention to the scrapes on her face, wincing slightly at the sight of them. "I could heal those up for you if you would like." He hadn't been in the habit of asking, but there was a difference in aiming one's wand at someone's hands and someone's face. A face healing, required permission.
She gave a firm nod of her head. It was a learning process. And the best way to learn was to get up and experience it for yourself. Which she did. As with everything injury was sometimes expected no matter how careful one was.
Hady sat quietly while her face was inspected. Not being able to see it herself the girl had no idea if it was bad or not. Judging by the little bit of pain and the dull ache now she'd guessed she scraped it pretty good. Another nod of the head was given when asked if she would like it healed. "Yes please." It saved her doing it herself or a trip to the Healer. Maybe she'd learn a new spell.

A deep scowl appeared on the Prefect's face as the slow clapping started, feeling decidedly mocked. What had he done wrong? Should he have cut straight to the flag? Found another way up the stairs? It wasn't like Dakest to outwardly mock him, but perhaps this was how he did it when it was one on one.
Well, fine.
The moment Dakest actually came into view Benzi's scowl disappeared from his face to be replaced with a blank expression. Looking curiously at the former auror, Benzi noted that he didn't seem mocking at all. Good actor? "Yes. Should I not have, Professor?" he asked, mentally kicking himself for the defensive edge in his voice.

Evie dropped the flag when the shock was over and her hands started burning again from the rope burn she received earlier. On top of that was ROOF burn on her hands, arms and knees from trying to FALL to her DEATH. Evie grunted in response when Dakest appeared. Was that his way of saying congratulations? "You're telling me," she grumbled, inspecting her raw hands.
However, she couldn't help the small, but proud smile that spread her lips when he put a hand on his shoulder and grinned at her. "Thanks. That was actually kinda... fun." Because there weren't dark wizards chasing after her, probably.
"I'm gonna, err..." she lifted her hands for another inspection... "Go get patched up." The healer would be thrilled with Dakest, she was sure.
A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.

This wasn't too bad, so far. Davie was light, so even on the steps that almost appeared to be disintegrating, Davie was able to quickly hop on past them. What he wasn't expecting, though, was for him to reach the top and then have no where else to go. His plan was to make it to the roof, and then just run from roof to roof to reach the flag as directly as possible. But how did he get UP there?
Aha! A rope! He could swing this rope up! But that would mean climbing onto the narrow ledge here and then allowing himself to fall down, slightly, just in time to catch the rope. Wellp... you only lived once, right, and if you didn't make it, this was just a training exercise anyway and Professor Dakest would be there to patch you up! Right? RIGHT?!
Holding his breath in, Davie let go and jumped forward to catch the rope. YESSSSSSSS. HE NAILED IT! Now he just had to swing and gain some momentum....

"AAAAAAH!!!"
Eyes closed, Paulina could feel herself plummeting to her death!! Or not. Instead she felt herself hit a wall with a THUD that she felt throughout her body. "OUCH!" she said a little louder than necessary; on top of hurting a bit, the crash had been a shock.
She wasn't sure why she was surprised when she had PLANNED to swing across to another building, but Paulina honestly wasn't thinking straight at this point due to fear. The sooner she was away from the pit the better (she knew that it wouldn't REALLY kill her).
With a fair bit of effort, she began to slowly pull herself up the rope while trying not to hurt her hands. The last thing she needed right now was to lose her grip. It wasn't easy, but she knew that she could manage.
One arm in front of the other, she climbed.
When she FINALLY reached the window she planned to enter, Paulina removed one hand from the rope and - with no small amount of difficulty - slid it open. Holding onto the frame, she carefully got herself situated on the sill before somewhat gracefully landing inside. Now she just needed to get to the rooftop of the building and grab the flag. She was more than halfway though, and that made her happy. Paulina couldn't help but smile even though she was tired and sore.
Unwrapping herself from the rope and disconnecting the end from the beam, she carried on walking. Dealing with more rickety stairs, it was slow going but she made sure not to put all her weight on them because otherwise she could fall through and maybe not be as lucky as last time.
Slow and steady wins the race.
When she began seeing missing steps, Paulina used her tried and true method of creating ramps because there was no way that she was going to start jumping when this building was just as dilapidated as the last one had been.
FINALLY reaching the top of the stairs after what felt like forever, she felt that she could cry from sheer joy; fortunately she managed to contain herself. Instead she made her way over to the rooftop where she began looking for the flag.
Spotting it, she rushed over and took a hold of it. "I DID IT!"

Swinging, swinging, swinging... Davie took a few moments to just hang onto the rope and enjoy the momentum, although after a few too many moments his hands started to slide. Ah ah ah no way was he going to let go of the rope. He gave himself an extra hard push and then let go of the rope at the top of the swing, the upswing, so he landed neatly on the next roof.
WOOHOO!
It was still down a little from where he wanted to be, but Davie was confident he could find a way up. He scrambled to the edge of this roof and looked around, thinking of perhaps a gutter or something he clamber onto for the next roof.

Alright, so he was up on the roof and he really just needed to get to the other roof. If he had his wand, now he would use it to cast arresto momentum on himself just in case he fell. But he didn't have his wand, he only had his brain and his hands and his legs, and he was just going to have to take a flying leap of faith to make it onto the next roof.
Taking a deep breath, Davie mumbled, "you can do it," to himself, and then backed up to get a running start. Once he landed on the next roof, he was just going to have to keep going until he got to the flag. Right? Right. There was nothing to it. Davie crouched down, imagining he was a Muggle track star, and then took off at the imagined sound of a wand going off. He tried to pump his little legs as fast as he could, running running running running running and then he was flying, straight over the edge of the roof, and landing onto the next one.
HE'D DID IT! He had DONE IT! WOW! WOOOOOOOOOOOOW!!!
Now... uh, three more to go? Davie caught his breath but before he lost his courage, took off for the next roof. This one was easier, since it was closer, and then kept running for the next one. The gap between these roofs was larger, and he almost fell, but made it on with one leg and caught himself, both feet on the roof, before he tripped and fell off.
Whew. Davie could SEE the flag within his grasp. It was just one rooftop away. All he had to do was make it over there. Problem was, that gap... was not jumpable. He'd have to shimmy on down to the gutter, hang off, and try to swing onto the next gutter edge. Eeek. It was nervewracking just to think about... but he wasn't about to quit now. He'd never know what could have been without trying.
Trying to keep his breathing calm and regular, Davie slowly clambered down to the edge of the roof, turning so his legs were down first, and allowed himself to dangle off the gutter. He inched his hands along the gutter edge, determined to get this over as quickly as possible, and trying to pretend he was only about six feet off the ground like on the monkey bars. He edged all the way along to the very bottom of the trim, and then started swinging himself so he'd have enough momentum to swing onto the next gutter. Swinging... swinging... swinging... HERE HE WENT!
And.... CAUGHT IT, one-handed. Davie gulped for breath and put his other hand on the gutter, slowly using all his strength to pull himself up from the edge and onto the roof proper. He scrambled up to the flag and grabbed it, then hugged it, hugged it tight, and sat down firmly on the roof.
HE WAS DONE. He'd made it. He'd done it quickly (or so he thought) and without much over-thinking, for him. So. There it was, professor, there it was.

Yes? Alrighty then.
With extra care, Sabel cast the healing charm on the remainder of her injuries. He'd never particularly prided himself on being able to heal, it wasn't really what him or his wand were ever made for, but he could take care of small things like this.
When he was done, he sat back and checked his handi-work. It looked good. Looked okay. He spared a smile for the Slytherin. "Might want to ice it just a bit, if it starts smarting." Otherwise, she should be right as rain.
He pointed over his shoulder. "Stairs are there, if you're interested in getting out of here." Which, he imagined she might be. Couldn't really see any of the students wanting to linger around longer than they had to.

Should he not have?
Rider got a curious look from Sabel at such a question. He shook his head slightly. "The only thing you should not have done was died, or sustained great injury." Of which Rider had done neither.
A smile worked it's way onto his lips. "You did well." In case he needed that extra reassurance.

Sabel had to laugh a little bit, at Shacklebolt's assessment of the challenge. "Fun. Well, I'm glad you thought so." Meant that the injury she sported was worth it?
His gaze drifted down to her hands, considering them for a moment before nodding. "A wise idea." He'd offer, but there was enough damage to Shacklebolt that the healer was probably a better idea. "Stairs are right over there. Don't worry, they won't disappear on you. Sturdy as a brick."
Except that they were made out of metal, but that was besides the point.

Sabel just grinned at the kid. Admittedly, it was slightly entertaining confusing him from time to time. Goodness knew it was payback for all the questions the kid always had.
Eccentric. That got a chuckle out of him. "You're probably the first to say that." Didn't mean others hadn't thought it before though.
The boy got an affable nod. "See you in class, Hyland." And clearly, keep watching those television shows.

It was curious, watching where the students came from. Most came from the rooftops, a few came from the walls. This one decided to use the more conventional method of stairs.
As soon as the flag was in her hands, Sabel disillusioned himself, sitting comfortably on the rooftop ledge and giving her a good, but brief clap of congratulations. "Well executed Ms. Holiday. Well done indeed."

Admittedly, he had quite been enjoying watching Truebridge sail through the air and over the gaps between the roofs like a flying squirrel. It had been impressive and admirable. The kid had some sort of rabbit legs on him for sure. It was however, of concern when the young boy disappeared down the side of the last building.
For a long moment, Sabel sat and watched. Wen he couldn't quite contain the worry of what the former Headmistress might say if she found her son had broken both legs on a dueling exercise, he moved to the edge of the rooftop. It was a relief to find the kid monkeying up the side of the building, all limbs fully functional. The distance was quite extreme, and the kid got extra, silent props for making a logical decision to not jump the span.
Stepping back, Sabel watched the kid make the last effort to the flag, hugging it as if it was the best thing in the world. He waited a minute before letting his disillusionment slip away. "Well thought-out, Mr. Truebridge. I do believe you spared yourself a trip to the Healer." And a letter to his mother.
