Once again, it's early morning. Same as the past few lessons had been, though the light was significantly fainter what with the winter months and all. So rolling out of bed might have been harder, eating might have been slower and venturing to the classroom might have been more effort than it seemed worth. Especially when the classroom was divided right down the middle with a cold, stone grey wall. A single wooden door had been placed right in it's center. Of all the things, this hardly could have looked like anything exciting or worth an early morning rise, it was just that type of wall.
What perhaps saved the classroom were two odd things. The first, a large, round bowl-type structure right beside the bowl, filled with the queerest colored water. It was a pale blue, and reflected light as if it was coming from the bottom of the bowl. Sabel stood close by the bowl, looking rather serious, as a Defense Professor might.
The second odd thing, or perhaps more remarkable, was that if one looked up they would find that the ceiling seemed like it was moving. If one looked closer, they would be able to discern that the movement was not the brick or the boards, but snitches. Hundreds of them, milling above, some zipping back and forth among the others.
There are however, no brooms or ladders or really, anything that looked like it could fly.
Just a bowl and a serious looking Professor.
There are however, benches available for sitting if one is tired of the floor.
--------------------- Class Progression:
Question 1:How can you increase your chances of hitting your target?
------------------------ OOC: Welcome one and all! Please feel free to post here doing as instructed. Mild chatter is allowed, but please keep it to a minimum.
The lesson will properly start sometime in the afternoon of October 31 (GMT -6). You can still post in the lesson after this time, even if you haven't posted arriving, but please do not post arriving after this time. Late comers will be penalized.
Henric felt a hand on his shoulder and looked up to find it was Professor Dakest's. He smiled weakly back,"Thanks professor..." He needed the strong reassurance that he was alright. He stepped away from the pensive and walked slowly back to his seat. It took him a few minutes to stabilize himself once more. Henric hands were still shaking. He quickly folded his arms on his chest. Yup...no one saw that. B-but..why was he still shaken up by that memory?
As more students started experiencing the same terrible memory in the pensive, Henric watched them quietly with careful attention. Fear stricken faces was seen in each of their faces and he couldn't help but feel a little sick inside. Soon after the pensive viewing was over, they were told to partner up for the activity ahead.
He looked around the room for an available partner but heard someone calling him from behind. He turned his head around to she who? Oh,Candice. He wasn't surprised. Besides... everyone else seemed taken. Shrugging,"Yeah sure, Candice...do you want to start casting the homing spell first?"he asked her.
Candice was usually very good at hiding her emotion. All thank to the pep talk her father gave her when she was a little girl. But right now you could see fear n her eyes. She was pretty sure tonight she might have a bad dream all thank to that memory. But moving on....
"Sure. I can do first." She prefer to cast the spell first anyway. That way she would know what she need to do when she's the one do the dodging. She might need to distance herself from Henric. So she did just that. When she was pretty sure that she's in a good distance from the Hufflepuff, Candice raised her wand then she made a line to the side followed by a forward flick. "Persequoris!" The green light coming from the tip of her wand towards Henric.

Right...it was his turn to cast offensively.
A nice, innocent homing spell that just had the same color as the deadly curse. "Persequoris!" he cast, moving his wand in a side line plus quick flick forward like Dakest had demonstrated and they all had practiced. The light shot towards Adi and Benny awaited the reaction from his boyfriend.
Yes, Benny WAS safe. There hadn't been a real Curse. Adi nodded. He was letting his imagination run away from him thanks to the memory. But anyway, he readied himself, keeping his eyes on his bestie. The Hufflepuff had already worked out how he would be dodging the spell. Mhmm. He was opting for some spell work.
Annnd there went the green light zooming towards it. He kept the thought firmly that it wasn't a real curse but yet he need not bother. He was much more focused now. ''Ascendio!'' Adi quickly pointed his wand at the air causing him to rise up, up, up! The green light shot past beneath him. Woot! He was alive safe!
''Arresto Momentum!'' With a wave of his wand, his descent back to the ground was a smooth and slowish one. Wheee! "That was awesome!'' he told Benny, some of his humour returning.

The boy's words stopped him, and had a small, sympathetic smile forming on his lips. Always with the questions this one. "All three of them lived. There was little injury, and no death."
Yoongi smiled back. The first genuine smile he had given today. "Good to know that no one died" This piece of information made the whole memory experience better to be honest. .......Or was the Professor lying? Nah , he didn't think so. Nevertheless, Yoongi would cast first, so he would have to be prepared. Nodding, the fourth year followed Yoongi away from the others to some open space to work in... his wand still clenched between his fingers.
While he was anticipating Yoongi to make the first move, and while he was thinking of ALL the different ways he could defend himself, he didn't anticipate that it would come BEFORE they confirmed their positions. All too quickly there was a flash of green screaming toward him, and he didn't have time to process his reaction.
Instead of using his wand, his best chance of defending himself, his best chance of survival... he threw himself to the floor. Fat lot of good that did him too, because he still felt the sting of the green light. "Ouch!" Geeeeez dude! The impact on the floor had hurt too, but that was the last thing on his mind right now, because technically, he was as good as dead.
He was about to say as much, when he picked himself up off the floor, not even bothering to brush himself off before sending green sparks with the honing spell at the fifth year, "Persequoris," with a line to the side and a forward flick of his wand. [/COLOR]
If the roles had been reversed and Zeke had been the one to sneak attack him, Yoongi would have been in the same situation as the younger Gryffindor was right now. Getting hit by the spell. "Sorry for killing you" he said awkwardly, scratching the back of his neck as he said so. If he would take a profession as a killer he would be a polite one , that's for sure.
When Zeke picked himself up off the floor, Yoongi readied himself, watching his movements and sure enough the same spell was directed in his way a second later. Watching the green magic fly his way, the sixth year thought quickly and .....chose to run to the benches with the spell following him, focused yet panicking in his mind. He reached the nearest bench which was behind him and was about to duck behind it when the spell hit him in his back. He felt a sting and tripped on his feet before toppling over the bench. Oops? "I'm ok!" he shouted, raising his hand in the air. "I'm dead but ok" huh...he was dead. How weird was that? He needed a different tactic...he walked back to Zeke and while he did so...he moved his wand to the side and a flick to the fourth year 'Persequoris' he thought, non-verbally. .......Nothing happened. "Seriously?" he asked , frowning at his wand "Persequoris!" he said out loud this time and watched the flash travel to him.

The spell cast, Benny biting back at the shiver of the green light that was representing the green of the actual curse. Weird. He wondered if aurors and the like automatically thought every green spell was the killing curse. Though he supposed it was logical in their case, at least to be better safe than sorry in any event. The seventh year didn’t get much time to think on the matter anyway as he was watching Adi and his maneuvers to evade the spell. First…the quick float into the air. Then ….the slowed descent back to the ground.
All in all two simple spells cast nonverbally by his best friend with the only indication of anything being the actually action of the magic taking place. This time the movement the badger had been doing before his eyes. “Show off…” he remarked in half tease.
Sophie wasn't going to back down no matter how concerned Zander looked, and as he started to protest her urging them to start the activity, he was trailing off, and Soph turned to see why.
...Ugh.
Darn Auror.
Soph knew right away that his statement wasn't a punishment. He wasn't mad that she'd left class and come back - she'd done that before, and he'd never questioned her then - even though this time she'd disrupted class, but she knew well enough that he was seeing right through her stone cold facade and was putting her out of her misery.
Misery, or... whatever this chilling numbness was.
Taking her bag back from him, she slung it over her shoulder wordlessly, then took Zander's hand in hers and started walking back toward the door with him... then promptly stopped and looked back at Dakest, the memory resurfacing of the hug they'd shared when the professor got his bad news at the end of the summer. A hug that she hoped made him feel less numb, less broken by whatever the news was that he had received - and, for a moment, emotions threatened to creep in and cause her to initiate one of those from him in a role reversal this time, but she had her wits enough about her to know where they were. In class. He had a job to do. And she wasn't sure she wanted to feel less numb, or to feel things at all.
Numb was good. Numb was safe. Numb was keeping her together.
She couldn't find her voice, though, to thank him for understanding or say anything at all. Without any more from Sophie Brown besides an empty look directed the professor's way, she was gone, taking Zander Adair with her.
He heard Zander's reasoning and could understand it. Perhaps, it was best the kid had waited. Made things easier. Sort of, but really not really.
At the very least, he was glad he got no argument from Brown. No attempt to try and convince him she should stay. It was a disheartening relief. It made his heart sink even lower into his gut. He watched them go, and only turned when they were gone from the room.
The room full of dazed and bewildered students. He let out a noisy breath. Knowledge, and truth, always came at a price.
SPOILER!!: Candice

There's some ugly things in this world and she need to see it. She didn't want to hide behind her brother and uncle anymore. Like her father said she's not a baby anymore.
When some of the students who stayed to view the Killing Curse memory gave the Professor insight about Killing Curse, Candice decided to stay silent because everyone already said what she wanted to say. So no need to repeat it again.
Then Dakest explained to them the best way to defend themselves from the Killing Curse. Shared wand cores, that's a lucky bet. Using other spell to intercept and hit the killing curse. But the Professor said its a bit risky. Okay. And the last one was dodging, or blocking the curse with a physical barrier. Physical barrier. Riiiiight. She'd remembered that.
---
Its pensieve time.
She wanted to see what's in the pensieve. How bad its. She just wanted to know. So the Gryffindor walked over to the pensieve. She took a deep breath before she ducked her head into the pensieve.
First thing she noticed was she's not in the classroom anymore. Where was she? It look like an aisle but she didn't recognize it the aisle she's in. She couldn't see clearly. She can only see her hands, he wands, the floor beneath her feet and some closer plant leaves. Other things were just foggy. Then there's a shadow. A person? She couldn't tell if the person was a he or a she. She heard a voice. Not a very clear voice. She didn't know what it said. Then suddenly the figure was casting a silent spell. The first a zap of light and the second was an eerie emerald green spell. Killing Curse. Then after that its just CHAOS everywhere. She could feel the fear. The adrenaline pumping. But there's nothing she could do. Its just a memory but it feel SO real.
Then all too quickly she was back into the classroom where she was safe and sound. No foggy background. No plants. No foggy figure. Just her, her classmate and Professor Dakest.
SIGH.
She walked away. FAR AWAY from the pensieve.
Partner. Yes. She need that. When Candice finally managed to control her breathing, she looked around the room to find someone who still partnerless like her. It look like Nicolei still couldn't find a partner. She walked toward the Hufflepuff. "Hey, let's partner up."
His eyes caught on Candice as she left the pensive, and he made his way back towards the bowl. She got a double glance to make sure she was okay, and steady enough on her own two feet. Already finding a partner though, that was good.

Sabel almost laughed. This kid. Merlin.
"Just a little injury." He confirmed. No need to say anymore.
Though, looking around the class, noting the expressions and the changes in skin tone and overall atmosphere, it seemed perhaps it was a good time to wrap things up. There had been a lot to process in the last few minutes, and even though there was still practice going on, he had a feeling that too much would be detrimental by this time.
"Alright everyone, feel free to start wrapping things up. Finish your practice if you want." His voice carried into the next room, where the snitches began slowing and the wall had begun to turn transparent. It looked like ice, melting slowly from the top.
Turning to the pensive, Sabel retrieved the memory and stored it in a vial, which he tucked safely in his pocket. The water got poured out and quickly cleaned up with a wave of his wand.
The wall was less than a few inches high now, though the snitches stayed on their appropriate side of the class. The door itself had melted away.
"Good work today. If anyone needs to speak to me after class, I welcome you to. I'll be in my office." Anyone being mainly the one's who'd seen the killing curse, but it applied to those who likely had burning questions about the pensive as well. "There are chocolate frogs in a bowl outside the door for all of you. Please, help yourself."
The one day he allowed chocolate. The one day.

OOC: Heya all! Soo lesson is wrapping up. Feel free to finish your practice and get your posts in. I'll close this thread in about 9 hours from this post.
If you have questions for Dakest, feel free to ask. Otherwise, class is officially dismissed
Thanks all for a great last lesson!! <3 (PS while this is the last 'official' lesson for us, you can assume that as the term is not over, there would be more after this )

Judging by some of the reactions from her classmates, Paulina was glad that she had opted to forego the pensive. She didn't think she could handle something like that - not even safe in a classroom. There were some things she felt were best left to the imagination, and so long as she knew how the spell worked and how to defend herself from it she was content.
Time to move on, because they needed to get started.
"Sure, I don't mind going first." Judging that Angel would be ready for it, Paulina raised her wand before making a line sideways and ending with a forward flick. "Persequoris!"
The green light shooting towards the Gryffindor looked like the killing curse, but Paulina knew that it was harmless.
Angel was totally not looking forwards to this, well in some ways she wanted to see what the killer curse looked like from a wand, well it wasn't the official one but the green from the spell was totally making it look cool though she would obviously never want it used against her.
"Protego!!!!!!!!" Angel did the wand movement and waited to see what that would do, it was the best thing she could think of doing, well it was either that or the Expelliamus spell that she need to do. "Okay want me to have a go?" Angel looked at Paulina waiting to see if she was ready.

Even though she knew the spell wasn't the killing curse, Paulina was relived that Angel had managed to block it. It looked so real that for a moment she forget that it had only been a homing spell.
Now it was her turn.
Paulina nodded. "I'm ready." There were a few ways that she could deflect the spell, and there was also the option to jump over it. Paulina quickly considered what she wanted to do, looking around to see if there were any objects she could use as a shield.
Maybe it would be better to let the spell shoot under her or form a shield.

"Persequoris!" Angel used her wand moving it sideward with a forwards flick. She watched as some green light came out of her wand, how epic was this, she loved the colour of the spell, now to wait and see what Paulina was going to do to defend herself.

Sorry for killing him? HA! That was pretty funny. "It's all good man, just know I'd haunt you if you really did." He'd make quite a ghost, he was sure of it. Because as lame as it would be, not being able to move objects, there were other ways to annoy and torment people. He knew things.
This whole 'safe' Killing Cursing was interesting, and he was pretty impressed with his casting, even if it was just a fancy light show for the most part. What was also impressive, was Yoongi running. Impressive, but funny, and with the older Gryffindor tripping, well that was just funnier. Zeke was grinning. "Dead but okay works, consider that payback?" Heh, one for one.
Watching as Yoongi performed the wand movement alone, he wondered if his upperclassman was trying to cast nonverbally. If he had, it didn't work, which gave him time to think. Use the environment.
When he cast again, Zeke was ready, "Accio bench!" he summoned as he performed the charm. The bench came FLYING at him, which is what he wanted. It all happened so quickly. One second he was about to DIE... again, and the next second, the bench was CRASHING into him, sending him toppling backwards and crushing him with its weight. "Ugh!" The outcome was bittersweet. It had taken the hit from the 'curse' BUT... he was in too much pain to be considered 'alive' and 'well' in this circumstance.
....
He hoped he was just winded. Please just be winded.

He was still laying on the ground with the bench on top of him, he managed to shove one side of it off his chest, but he didn't much fancy moving at the minute, only if by doing so it would help him breathe again.
...
Good work. Chocolate. He needed chocolate.
Face pulled into a grimace, Zeke tried to inhale a breath as best he could before toppling the bench off from on top of him. Freedom was painful.

Paulina waited patiently as Angel prepared to cast the spell. She was watching to see the moment when the green light came towards her. Then she could decide what to do to defend herself.
As the spell was cast, Paulina didn't even think of using her wand; there was no time to cast a stunning spell plus timing was crucial. Instead of forming a shield, Paulina relied on impulse and jumped to the side. The spell missed hitting her by mere inches. "Good job." And excellent timing since class was wrapping up.
Too bad she wouldn't have a chance to work with other people.
Candice fear in her eyes weren't left unnoticed. Henric saw them but he didn't say anything. It was the first time he had seen her being 'unlike' herself. He wasn't going to point it out to her either. He guessed not everyone was immune to the fear of death especially when it happened right in front of their eyes. Henric was shaken up by the memory too.
Henric nodded and let her go first. Soon the spell went after him and he knew he couldn't outrun it. Judo move? Yeah, good idea! Henric slide across the side and quickly summoned the desk nearby and let it flew towards the incoming green light. The spell hit the desk before it disintegrate into nothing.

She knew it wasn't needed to be agreed upon. The girls would be partners for this activity. If anyone could be trusted right then to not harm her it was Brooklyn. "Mind if I get us started?" The question was spoken flatly as she fingers the smooth wood of her wand her fingers moving to grip it tightly in her hand then. Right now she just wanted to get this over with. The memory was to clear in her mind and what was needed to block it out there wasn't time for. That being, she only had one choice. Move forward.
Hady took several large steps backwards as she got herself a safe distance away. There would be no messing this up. No injuries. Taking in a breath only to let it out slowly she raised her wand when she saw Brooklyn was ready. There was a line to the side and a forwards flick from her wand, "Persequoris!"
As the green light from the tip of her wand shot towards the other Slytherin girl Hady almost wanted to look away. She knew it wasn't what it was intended to look like but with the memory on her mind it was a bit nerve rattling.
Feeling eyes on her, Brooklyn had glanced back once to see Professor Dakest watching her, as if he expected her to break down. She wasn’t planning on breaking down any time soon, not in what was basically a public place. There might be some Tywin cuddling later, but she knew she’d get over what she’d seen. She was already resolved to, whether or not she forgot it entirely. Part of her didn’t want to forget it, since it was information she could use. Information she had a sneaking suspicion most people never learned. Either way, she’d turned back toward Hady in time to lock eyes with her, watching as the other girl had even walked closer to meet her.
That saved time, anyway, which was good as she heard the professor speak again, dismissing the class but letting them finish up what they were doing. That worked for her, and she’d nodded as Hady had offered to go first. Staying where she was, she got her wand ready again, just in case she felt like casting a counterspell. She kept her eyes on her housemate either way, watching the now familiar movement for the homing spell. Now she could tell the difference, anyhow. Not that she expected the actual killing curse. Even she wouldn’t have done that, had it even been an option. As it was, she gave up on trying to think of a proper spell to block the green light coming for her, and instead, she dodged to the side to duck behind a bench, tipping it over to let the wooden seat collide with the spell instead.
Standing back up, she called over to Hady. “Ready?” They didn’t really have a lot of time, after all, since class was technically over. She still waited for her partner to get ready before she traced out the line and then flicked her wand forward. “Persequoris!,” she cast, taking a step back almost involuntarily as a green light shot from her wand and headed for the other girl. Okay, that was a little bit too good of a simulation.

"Good shot!"he exclaimed.
"My turn? Persequaris!"he cast.
From the corner of her eyes she could see Dakest watching her. Was the Professor thought she was going to freak out? No, sir. Candice Messer did not freak out in public. She even managed to shake off the horrifying memory from her mind to focus on the activity. Well, she might need a warm tomato soup after this but right now she had work to do.
Candice saw the green light from the spell she cast went after Henric. Then she saw the boy reacted quickly by sliding to the side and summoned a desk and used it as barrier. That's nice move. But she's not going to say that out loud.
"Thanks." She appreciate the compliment but she's not going to return it.
She was ready for this. She was. But when the green light coming from the tip of Henric' wand and went after her, she didn't have a chance to use her wand. So she went with plan B. Dodging. The Gryffindor quickly went toward the nearest bench, she was planning to use it as a shield against the spell but before she could reach the bench the green light hit her.
Darn it! Now she's 'dead'. She used to be quicker than.
"Well done. You just killed me, Nicolei." So good job!
And just like that the class was over. Chocolate frogs? No, thank you. She didn't eat sugary things. What she need right now was a nice bubble bath or a bowl full with fresh vegetables.

Adi's mouth formed one of those familiar smirks that Benny should be used to by now. "Gotta keep you impressed, right?'' He then drew his attention to Dakest. Oh, they could go? Adi had no problem with that. The memory from the pensieve was still bothering him. "Ready?" he asked Benny as he moved to collect his belongings then called to Dakest. "See you around, Professor.'' The man got a small smile before the Hufflepuff made his way to the entrance. Yep, he DID snag a Chocolate Frog or two. Those would be for later when he got his appetite and full on cheeriness back. For now, he'd just hang out with Benny who should have not trouble in helping him return to his normal self.

So, in theory, yes, the homing spell could work alongside with the killing curse. Which made dying easier. Wonderful. Evie's brain was swimming a little, but she did her best to listen to the three ways to protect oneself from the killing curse, which of course, would be harder to do if the homing spell was attached to it. The ways were simple and no-brainers, but one would have to think very fast to avoid being killed.
And as soon as that was over, Dakest moved right along to... wait, what? He was letting them watch a memory of a killing curse? Seriously? Was it his? Was he the one using it? Was he really going to let them watch him KILL somebody?
That was the conclusion Evie's brain immediately went to, but by the time she reached the pensieve, she wasn't entirely sure what she was going to see. Either way, she wasn't really all that frightened. Intrigued, yes. A little nervous, yes. But not scared. It was something, as a future auror, that she would have to experience and perhaps use in the future. It was better to experience now in a safe and controlled environment, as Dakest had said, rather than as a surprise later.
So, there was hardly any hesitation from Evie. She walked right up the pensieve, giving Dakest a curious glance before submerging her face into the cool, light water. Evie was disappointed at the lack of definition in the figures and the place they were in, but she knew it was probably for the better. And, besides, it was Dakest. That man hid everything. Auror and all. Evie subconsciously jumped when the spell firing started. Her heartbeat quickened as the battle begun and she paid attention to every detail and every spell that defended the person whose place she was in. Her heart jumped again as the memory threw her backwards. Evie's head popped out of the pensieve with a small gasp as the memory faded, but other than that, she was quite calm. She paused and looked at Dakest again for a moment, wondering what happened after that. She knew she wouldn't get an answer if she asked, though.
Evie cleared her throat. "Thank you for letting us see, professor," she said quietly before stepping away. She would keep that memory in the front of her mind.
What was this his ears were hearing? Sabel's head swiveled around towards Valentine and his eyebrow went up. "Remember Ms. Valentine, while a shield spell might work for the homing spell, it will not work for the killing curse."
The look he fixed her with was unreadable. "Technically, you would be dead."

Good work. Chocolate. He needed chocolate.
Face pulled into a grimace, Zeke tried to inhale a breath as best he could before toppling the bench off from on top of him. Freedom was painful.
And of course when he turned about, there was a student under a bench. Not just any student, but a Browne. A Gryffindor. He was not in the least bit surprised. Concerned, but not surprised.
It looked like the kid was going to make it, but Sabel kept a weather eye on him, just incase there was a trip to the healer in the making. He'd have to craft a letter, beginning with 'Emily, I taught your kid about the killing curse, then he got broken in my class.'
SPOILER!!: Evie

Sabel watched as Shacklebolt took to the pensive. He couldn't say what type of reaction he expected from her, but he should have suspected that she would fix him with the same look Brown had. And in kind, he returned the same passive expression.
No extra information. No hints or knuts.
He was slightly surprised though. She was the first to thank him. That struck a cord he wasn't prepared for, and Sabel just nodded stiffly.

His attention turned to Rehman and Atreyu as they made their way out of the class. Each got a nod of acknowledgement. Nothing more was really needed.
Not when there were snitches being pelted at angles they really shouldn't have been. Sabel's eyes snapped to the opposite half of the room, watching a few students retreat with less than amicable expressions. So, was it Snitch Wars instead of Snitch Hunts? Interesting, what happened when one put a bunch of young kids together in a room of golden snitches.
With a wave of his wand, the snitches all folded and dropped to the floor, before rolling all into one neat pile. Now, to clean up this mess.
