Default DADA 1 - Now You See Me, Now You Don't

DADA Lesson 1
Now You See Me, Now You Don't

Please remember that all DADA Classroom rules and SS site rules apply.

It's early morning, but not so early that one wouldn't have had time to get breakfast, do their hair in a somewhat neat fashion and maybe scrub their teeth with a finger and some mint. The beauty of the early morning lessons, besides groggy children with half muddled greetings, is the golden light that streams in from the large windows lining either side of the training hall, the far end of which is serving as the classroom for today's lesson.

At the far end, as seems to be custom with the DADA Professor, the floor is bare. No stools, desks or chairs are in sight. Instead, the plain stone beckons welcome to those who would like to stand or sit. Lying is not recommended, one might find themselves promptly stepped on, or possibly used as a pillow.

On the wall, however, one decoration has been spared. A series of black chalkboards have been hung on small pegs, one for each and every student. One above the lot of them reads 'Grab a board, a piece of chalk and take a seat'.

Beside this interesting display stands the Professor, or at least, half of him. From the waist up, he appears as he normally does. Casually dressed for whatever activity is planned. From the waist down, however, there is nothing but air and the stone of the wall and the floor. For all appearances, it looks like the Professor has lost his bottom half, and seems quite content and comfortable with the matter. Indeed, he supports a smug smirk, with his hands clasped easily behind his back, ready to greet each and every student that comes in.

Find a chalkboard, chalk and a piece of floor. The lesson will begin shortly.

---------------------
Class Progression:

------------------------
OOC: Welcome one and all! Please feel free to post here doing as instructed. Mild chatter is allowed, but please keep it to a minimum.
The lesson will properly start no later than 11:30pm GMT-6. You can still post in the lesson after this time, even if you haven't posted arriving, but please do not post arriving after this time. Late comers will be penalized.

THIS WAS IT!! The class she had been WAITING for. HA. Uncle Professor Dimples was the MAN. Bounding into his classroom she GRINNED wide and held the little flower out toward him. SHE HAD PICKED IT JUST FOR HIM. Mhm.

"GOOD MORNING UNC... PROFESSOR DAKEST!" Yes, she was excited and being loud, WHAT OF IT?! Spinning around to face the class she let her eyes scan the crowd briefly. Hmmm. Well everyone actually looked like they were BUSY in one form or another, so she just went to retrieve her chalkboard and stand quietly....

Though the standing was more of a bounce. And her energy PROBABLY RADIATED. Oh hey Sophie Brown and Davie TRUEBRIDGE. They got waves, but she REALLY wanted to concentrate on this particular class, so she stayed away... for now.

Milo was VERY eager for the Defense lesson this morning. This, besides Charms, was most likely the place to learn the spells he would use most often. He had already pulled his wand out on the moving staircases on his trip from Ravenclaw Tower fully expecting to come bursting into some action first step into the training hall classroom but that wasn't the case. When the first year entered the room, he found it almost empty apart from the students who had already filed in.

His face facing a tad, he stuffed his wand back into his pocket and walked over to the others. They were to grab a chalkboard and something to write with, okay, oh and there was the Professor.

"Good morning, uh...." He stopped, chalkboard in hand and stare at the man--more precisely half of the man for he didn't have anything below his waist and appeared to be floating. Surely he hadn't run into the same mistake or similar to the History of Magic Professor from a long time ago that he'd read about waking up and leaving his body behind and going on to teach as a ghost. Could you do that but with just limbs and continue to LIVE?

Soo strange. But it wasn't polite to stare and besides the Professor hadn't seemed too worried about it so Milo shouldn't be either. "Good morning Professor."

He quickly took a seat.

Defence Against the Dark Arts sounded like it was going to be a BRILLIANT lesson. Full of ACTION and EPICNESS, like one of those action-packed movies but with magic involved.

At least, those were the high hopes Phillip had for this subject.

So naturally, the boy was VERY enthusiastic about this one lesson here and had even rushed through his breakfast to get here! Yes, that's right, RUSHED BREAKFAST. But he was here soon enough, in this empty classroom that had nowhere to sit, a bunch of chalkboards and........

............... BLINK.

STARE.

BLINK.

Uh. Wide eyed, the first year STARED at the Professor. Or, well, HALF of him because the bottom half was GONE! POOF! Not believing his eyes, Phillip even walked around the man slowly, to get a good look of the disappearing act. To be honest, the Slytherin had half a mind to poke the bottom half of the professor's body just to see if it was invisible or if their professor was a weird torso!man who defended himself against the dark arts by, well, scaring them.

What? It could be true.

"Good morning, Professor," he said, staring a bit more before slowly making his way to grab a chalkboard and take a seat on the floor. This should be interesting, right?

A disheveled looking Daxton made his way into the training hall, looking very much like he had just rolled out of bed with his shabby third-hand uniform (no robes, he hated robes), bare feet (shoes were uncomfortable, and as socks were 'up to personal preference' he had foregone those too), and messy, unbrushed hair (who cared about making it look nice? not Daxton). As a matter of fact, he had just woken up. The first year was still not used to sleeping in a dormitory with the other boys, and never got much sleep at all while they were in there. Once everyone had left for breakfast, he had taken the opportunity to sleep as long as he could before heading straight to Defence Against the Dark Arts. Nonetheless, he looked as alert as ever; so tired he was wired, it worked quite well for him.

The cool stone of the floor on his feet felt strangely comforting as Daxton crossed the training hall to where everyone was gathered, pulling his earmuffs (which he generally wore while traversing the corridors, because loud) down off of his ears and hanging them around his neck. He took a moment to look around at everyone, gaze lingering on... half of Dakest, his expression unchanging. At least until he focused on the chalkboards that were hung up, of course, and at last read the sign that said to take one. Daxton visibly cringed at the thought, gritting his teeth hard. Chalk on chalkboards. No. No no no no no. It was as if people in this place were intentionally inflicting things on him that were complete sensory hell.

Giving a little shiver, Daxton opted not to get a chalkboard for himself. He had his notebook and pen with him, so if they needed to write things down, he would use that. Nobody was making him touch a piece of chalk. Nobody.

With that thought quite firmly fixed in his mind, Daxton went and found himself a space right at the edge of the group of people, as far back as he could by the wall at the side of the room, where nobody could sit behind him and he could keep an eye on everyone else. He sat cross-legged, back against the wall, lay his notebook on his knee and got his pen (no quill, those things were aesthetically pleasing but impractical and unpleasant to write with) from his pocket, then sat and watched everyone, the Professor (half of him, at least) included.

Henric was feeling a little out of sorts today. Reoccurring bad dreams had been keeping him awake for most nights, Henric couldn't help but yawn as he entered the classroom. Not only that, he got one bloody disgusting acne on the side of his cheek! ONE! Urgh. After he finished all his classes, he would head straight up to bed to catch up on his sleep.

"Good mornin-..."Henric greeted halfway. His eyebrows raised, where Professor's Dakest other half of his body went to? Disillusionment charm? "Good morning professor, pretty neat disappearing act you got there,"Henric smiled.

He grabbed the chalkboard and chalk like the rest of the students did and went to find his bestie so he could sit with her. He noticed little Ava on the side and gave her a wave too."Hi Ava, hope you're feeling better...how is your shoulder?"he asked, concerned. He still felt guilty, it was his fault she got that injury in the first place.

"Morning llia,"he grinned and sat beside her. He felt a a little better seeing her here. Oh...not to forget the Hufflepuff prefect, Adi, and his Gryffindor bestfriend, Benny."Hey guys, morning to you too." Yup...Henric was just not feeling it today.

You could tip Dot over with a sugar quill. This was the weirdest day ever. Not just because the professor was missing his legs and still managed to be ridiculously pleasing on the eyes, but because Sophie was sitting with the Mean Girl like they were friends.

What if Sophie was gonna become a mean girl? Maybe it was contagious!

Dot inched her way into a seat, giving her ickle Ravenclaw QuietOne a long look before opting to sit a few seats back and over. Give the baby Claw his space, especially since he wasn't aware that he'd been adopted. "Good morning, Professor. You have no legs." Helpful Dot was helpful.

DADA time!! Pewpewpewpewpew!! That was the sound of Kyroh's obvious spells that were going to hit every target when he completely blasted through this lesson. Yeah, he was clearly more than awake, and had been for some time now. Entering the classroom, he immediately glanced up at the chalkboard.

He wanted them to sit.....on the floor?

Man, where were the yoga mats when you needed them? "Hullo Sir!"

Grabbing a chalkboard and a piece of chalk, Kyroh glanced around, looking for the BEST place to sit. Or really just someone to sit beside. Dot really wasn't looking at him, so maybe she didn't want him to sit beside her? It was alright, if she wanted space or whatever, so surprisingly Kyroh wan't that upset. He looked around a little bit more, and his eyes landed RIGHT on a sort of familiar face.

Sort of, as in, one of the first people he had met at Hogwarts, but she looked different. Older obviously since the last time he had seen her, because he was older too Wandering over, Kyroh beamed and sat down beside the Gryffindor. "Hi Candice!!!" His voice lowered slightly, "Do you remember me?" If she didn't it was alright. But he still considered her a friend y'know?? How could he NOT?

When the first student appeared in the doorway to the training hall, Sabel had to refrain from rubbing his hands together with a grinning glee. He was curious as to what the reactions of his class would be. Kids always proved interesting in the most unpredictable of ways. Perhaps this morning would turn out to be an extra interesting one.

SPOILER!!: Individual Greeting Replies

That meant they had a practical lesson right?! As he walked further, he did not notice the chalkboards hanging on the wall but the Professor. Or at least, half of him.

Now, anyone who knew him would know that he was easily startled or freaked out but not this time, he basically ran to the man and as he stood in front of him , gasped loudly, looked down and his eyes twinkled." If that is what I think it is and if I think that that is what we’ll be learning today than I am SO PSYCHED for this lesson! oh ..also Hi~ "No really! If it was the disillusionment charm they were going to learn then he would be so excited! Cause it was the spell he had written down that he had wanted to learn more about the most. So, Pleeeeeease let it be so! He would make him a cake if it is yes! Eventhough he can’t bake anything…

Oh right, chalkboard. Still with a grin on his face, the Gryffindor grabbed what he needed to take and waited, wide eyed , thinking 'please let it be that, please let it be that' the whole time.

And it was indeed already proving to be quite interesting, starting with the first student of the morning. Sabel had to admit, he had not expected anyone to run up to a half-visible man. A double take or something would have been logical, reasonable and not at all shameful.

This, was highly unexpected. Tucking his hands in his pockets, he looked down at Hyland with an expression that was a mixture of amusement and curious concern. "Hi yourself, Mr. Hyland."

The smirk twitching at the corners of his lips was all he provided in answer to the eager boy's inquiry.

All in good time, Mr. Hyland. All in good time.

The apparently missing lower half of his body got a suspicious look, but she wasn't going to ask about that yet. Disillusionment charm, maybe? Penelope found a spot in the middle of the room and sat down on the floor. Looked like it would be an interesting lesson.

And yet another curious reaction. Straight for the boards, as if she didn't see him at all. Sabel did a double-take to his person, checking that it was indeed just his bottom half that appeared ... well didn't appear.

His eyes came up at the greeting, the smile firmly in place. "Good morning Ms. Wright. And a fine morning it is." He didn't miss the glint in her eye, and gave her an innocent smile in return.

Jeans, a black long sleeve and hiking boots, best to be prepared in Professor Dakest's class.

The beautiful golden sunlight shined in across the clean and empty space, a thing of silent beauty as she looked into the classroom. Only the professor was there, smirking .....with half of his body 'not there'. This class, was going to be good. Upon seeing his state, she wasn't unsettled at all and actually, gave him the biggest smile she had given any professor yet this year. "Good Morning, Professor." She bowed respectfully , bright eyed and bushy tail, ready to go as they say. She procured a chalkboard and chalk, as she watched Yoongi's antics. The Gryffindor boy was certainly 'interesting' at times.

She stood an acceptable distance away from the professor and sat, crossed legged on the floor. Waiting patiently, she contemplated if she would be in trouble for turning her chalk green?

Another greeting, bright and cheery and not at all disturbed had his head turning. Of course he couldn't not return that type of smile, and offered a grin of his own. "Morning Ms. Valke."

He was however, starting to wonder just what it was with these kids that half a person was no-big-deal. Perhaps the juice had been replaced with an extra strong pot of coffee this morning?

After she had some breakfast, the Gryffindor girl climbed up to the first floor where the classroom had located. Entering the classroom, she noticed the Professor was... half of him? Blink blink... "Good morning, Profesor and... Are you okay?" She asked the ex-auror. Was he got sliced or... NO WAY. It must be a trick that related to their lessons today.

And also, a chalk and blackboard? That reminded her of her muggle primary school. she grabbed a board and a chalk and... How was she supposed to write things with this since she injured her shoulder? Oh, sucks.

At last! Victory! Someone who didn't consider his state one of normalcy---

It was Sabel's turn to blink, concern replacing his brief notion of victory. His gaze travelled across the young girl's arm, his brow furrowing. "Ms. Burton, I believe I should be asking you that question."

Good thing he had the lesson planned for today that he did.

Defense Against the Dark Arts was a pretty cool class, and one of the few he actually looked forward to. Also, it was nice that it was not too many staircases away from his dorm. Having to walk up all of the stairs in Hogwarts was not his idea of a good time, and it would make this class not as fun if it was too far away.

Blink. Blink. "Er, missing something, professor?" How could a fully grown man lose his legs though? It seemed like something that would be hard to misplace. Oliver stood in the doorway for a moment, staring at the professor with a look of clear confusion on his face. After a moment he kept walking, grabbing a chalkboard and some chalk, and stood leaning against a wall.

His concern turned from Burton to the newest arrival, and the grin was back. More mischievous this time, and he really couldn't help himself. Leaning down a little as the boy came by to grab a board, so he wasn't towering over the first year so much, Sabel gave the kid a worried look.

"Afraid I am. They must have wandered off during the night. Don't suppose you've seen a set of legs wandering about the castle this morning, have you?"

Instead, a cheerful one came out of his mouth as soon as he stepped inside the training salle.

“GREETINGS PROFES—” What in the world?! You don’t welcome students with your other half missing! Ethan stood by the entrance, perplexed with what he saw, but then was relieved to see the pleasant expression on the Professor’s face. At least he’s not bothered by it, and not in pain.

Take two.

Clearing his throat, “GREETINGS, Professor Dakest-- …or should I say Professor Dakest 0.5?” Ethan gave the professor a sup nod, and glanced at, what should be his legs and feet, then back to the professor. “Disillusionment charm, I suppose?” he asked and at the same time half assumed. With a quick look around the room, he found the wall full of small blackboards, and the instruction hanging above the lot. The Slytherin got himself one, a piece of chalk, and walked over a spot near the windows where he could get some sunlight. It was almost winter season, so yes, he’d take advantage of the heat of the sun while it lasted.

And there walked in victory number two!

Straightening, Sabel turned his attention to the door and the one and only Mordaunt. The young man got a wide, pleasant grin as he made a grand gesture at his legs. Or rather, his non-legs. "At least it's the better half of me that remains."

As for the lesson plan? Well, that got a casual shrug of the shoulders. "Could be. Could not." He wasn't one to tell. The kid should know this by now.

Wide awake and with a full stomach, Adi bounded into the room. He was all set for whatever Dakest tossed their way today. Yep! BRING IT ON! "Good morning-'' Eh... Where did half of the man go? It took him only a second or two to pull himself together. Disillusionment Charm was at work, perhaps? "Professor! Did you know that half of you is missing?" Hehe. Rhetorical question. After giving the man a grin, he turned his attention to the board... no, boardS.

Okay, soooo board, chalk and floor! Adi grabbed the two before shuffling over to Ilia, in the process waving to Yoongi, Ava, Penelope and Ethan. "Heyyy, Ilia,'' he greeted as he flopped down cross legged beside her.

Alright, so it seemed that perhaps the first students into the class weren't fully awake. Really, it was early for the day, so perhaps their visual faculties weren't entirely tuned up and ready to go, and that was why his state had garnered little reaction from them.

Next time, he would have to devise something a little more unusual to keep them on their toes.

He was slightly surprised that Rehman did a double take. Still, it brought a good grin to his features, one which he quickly formed into a frown of concern as he looked down. "Goodness me. So I am. That's a pity." His gaze came up with a grin. "You haven't seen it milling about the halls, have you Mr. Rehman?"

Trouble was, he didn't know HOW to fix them, consequently the boy walked into the lesson with a long face and his quick quotes quill and notepad floating along ahead of him.

First thing he noticed, there were no desks or chairs. Second thing, he needed to grab a little chalkboard and chalk. Third thing, there was only half a Professor here.

How did THAT happen? Blaise stared openly in awe, wondering if they would be able to do that too but then he remember how his magic was no good and his face just fell all over again. "Hello Professor. It's neat how you cut yourself in half like that." Even though he'd never be able to do the same with his own wand.

The boy flopped to the ground with a look similar to that of a child who'd been handed candy then had it snatched away right after. He wanted to cut himself in half too but no doubt his wand would never let him--or worse, it would do it wrong and get him killed.

Well this was certainly an interesting one. Long face, to intrigue, to suddenly long again. It was almost more impressive than his own current state, and for a moment, Sabel considered the boy very seriously.

He didn't really know the kid yet, and he was reminded of the patronus lesson where a few students had caught his attention from the get-go to keep an eye on. This, seemed like it would be another one.

"Thank you, Mr. Bellaire." A nod and still the appraising gaze. "Would you like to learn how to do so yourself?"

Brilliant question it was, really. Because who wouldn't want to learn the trick?

It wasn't allowed. Her cheeks hadn't done a very good job with it in all the other DADA classes this term, but it this was her lesson. She'd practiced, okay? Practice made...something close to perfect than she was at this point. The perfection part of the prefect deal was still decidedly out of reach, but that was likely true for everybody except for Sophie Brown who was probably perfect from the second she was born.

When she stepped into the classroom, her eyes went directly to Professor Dakest, her eyebrows went directly upwards, and the corners of her mouth went directly into their smiling position. Where did the bottom half of him GO? "Good morning professor." Her greeting had a tendency to be soft and mumbled in this particular class, and today was no exception. There was no blushing, at least, so that was a cause for celebration all in itself. Apparently having an invisible bottom half didn't make it any easier to not be in in awe of him, which was completely unfair. Maybe he could make his face invisible next time. That would be a shame, though.

She finally noticed that there were no chairs and desks set up, so she retrieved a board before choosing a place on the floor. Alright. Cool. Hopefully this wouldn't be as embarrassing as the patronuses had been.

His attention turned back to the door and the approaching students as a familiar voice snagged his ears. A warm smile overcame his features, mingled with the slight curious quirk of his brow. "Good morning Ms. Kittredge."

Admittedly, he was slightly disappointed that he wasn't able to get a reaction out of her. There was a small one, but the young girl appeared incredibly schooled and in control of her expressions. Good. A bit disappointing, but good.

Whatever the reason, AJ was here physically, but that was about it.

Walking into the room, AJ spotted the professor, and pointed at his missing half. It took too much effort to actually say what she was thinking. A mumbled "morning," did escape from her barely opened lips.

People. Hi, people. AJ did a sort of sleep walk over to the boyfriend. Head nod for the hufflepuff prefect. Sup? Oh crap. She needed things. A few 'out of body experience' steps later and she was back in her original position with a chalkboard and chalk. She couldn't get too comfortable because sleep would probably overtake her once more.

So far, all the students had been as bright as bees this morning. Slightly surprising, but rather welcome. It hopefully meant less drama by way of waxing and waning emotions that came with sleep deprivation, and a very attentive class.

So, what he wasn't expecting, was to turn and be greeted with a sight of a rather ruffled Valentine. And ruffled was being polite. If he thought he might look in some way scary or concerning, it was pale in comparison to the young girl that all but ambled into his classroom.

"Good....morning....Ms. Valentine...." Merlin, truly. Did she just crawl out of bed and all the way down. It was a good thing he didn't take points for presentation. "Good sleep?"

Or perhaps bad?

She'd even had time for breakfast of course though it wasn't exactly breakfast food if chocolate frogs and a charmed glass of orange changed into coffee counted for much.

Entering the DADA room all she really noticed was the lack of desks and chairs at first. Well alrighty then nothing wrong with that. Doing a quick sweep of the room with her bright hazel eyes she nodded at a few of her friends before spotting Professor Dakest or well um half of him off to the side. Nothing seemed to concern her anymore, if the man didn't appear bothered by the lack of his lower half then neither would she. However she couldn't help but hope this had something to do with what they'd be learning today. "Morning Professor," she greeted warmly with a small smirk and a simple nod of her head.

Greeting down she wandered across the room to the selection of mini black boards and picked one up off the wall along with a piece of chalk. With the items needed in her hand she found a clear spot where no one was standing and sat herself down on the floor, bag resting at her feet, chalkboard resting on her lap and fingers drumming quietly to a beat she couldn't seem to get out of her head.

His eyes were really having a hard time this morning. From the disheveled state of Ms. Valentine to the sparkly and crisp composure of Ms. Lynch, it was like looking from the dead of night straight into a burning candle. It made him blink a few times.

Perhaps Lynch could give Valentine a few lessons on morning grooming habits?

"Good morning Ms. Lynch." Her warm smile was returned, as was the small smirk. Another one not yet bothered, but not because of any lack of diligence in observation.

Looking around, he found that a few students were sitting on the floor with chalkboards. Upon further looking around he found that there were chalkboards hanging up on the far wall. He promptly grabbed one, and some chalk, and found an empty spot to sit.

Looking up, wanting to greet the professor, he realized that the man was only half there. He was very confused indeed. "Um... Morning professor?"

It was to be expected, he supposed, that the longer they waited for classmates to show up, the more groggy they would be. Perhaps he should have pushed the lesson back a bit later, but then he really did want to give the students as much time as possible during the lesson.

Plus, morning was the best time to catch one unawares. The small smirk remained in place as he nodded at Moore. Why had the greeting sounded like a question. "Unless the sun is confused, I do believe it is."

But surprisingly this morning she had gotten up in time to go for a run, eat breakfast, and go up the the owlery to send off some letters. She did this all before it was time to head down to class. Amazing! She wasn't even tired. She was awfully wide eyed and brushy tailed this morning. If she had been heading to Moxleys lesson this morning instead she could have stuck the super big smiley face to her clothes.

Instead she was heading to defense against the dark arts. Heading on into the classroom she noticed no desk. No desk? Hmmmm sitting in the floor. So these other slackers couldn't fall asleep, right? Great idea Dakest. Slackers shouldn't have the chance to slack.

Anyway... The seventh year nodded and smiled at the professor as she passed, "Good morning, Professor Dakest." Hmmmm. Half of him was missing. She actually wasn't sure how to react to this. If she wasn't as awake as she was she probably would have thought she was seeing things.

Then she went over to the chalk boards took one off of the peg and I piece of chalk and found a seat.... Or a spot in the floor next to no one she was at a perfect spot next to no one. She was completely happy with this for now.

Well, that was slightly disappointing. Not even a blink of an eye. Sabel scratched at his jaw. These students, so hard to please.

"Good morning, Ms. Bayless." He took another glance down, just to make sure that his bottom half was indeed still missing. Curious reaction, Bayless, or lack thereof.

When she entered the classroom, the first thing she noticed was the Professor or more like half of him. But he still looked very handsome. Ahem. "Good morning, Professor."

Candice grabbed one of those chalk board and a chalk of course before she found a perfect spot on the floor to sit on.

Another calm reactor. Merlin, these kids were good.

"Ms. Messer. A fine morning I hope?" She didn't look too ruffled around the edges, but more a half-state of awake and not-yet-awake. As long as she didn't go drooling on the chalkboard...

Now that was certainly interesting and Dante had no idea how he did it. How they be learning how to do that today or something like that. That would be awesome. Just imagine.

Sabel's head turned with a grin to the next arrival. "Mr. Barrington. Good morning. It's good to see you in full health." Heh.

Though, was that a mischievous glint he caught in the kid's eye? Merlin, what was he going to create after this lesson was said and done?

Zander Adair had this down to a science. The science of waking up at the very last possible minute and still surviving Hogwarts. They should start a club for that. Zander could be president.

The Gryffindor was still tired as he walked into the classroom. Though he still noticed the note on the wall. Grabbing a board and a piece of chalk he went to-- Uh. Blink. Blink. Blink.

He stopped cold in his path, rubbing his eyes a bit. Okay, was he so sleepy that he was only seeing half of Professor Dakest this morning? This had never been a sideeffect... "Uh, good morning, Sir," he blinked a few more times before walking to find a piece of floor to sit at. Man. That was strange. Where did his legs go?

And then, there was his own mischievous nature.

Sabel couldn't help himself as Adair did a double-take-eye-rub. Waving to people, Paulina grabbed a chalkboard and piece of chalk before finding a place to sit.

He had to admit, the natural casualness of some of the students was a bit unnerving. Had they seen things like this before? Lived in villages where people walked around half-present all the time?

Or maybe it was just Hogwarts working it's historical magic, desensitizing the student population. Well, at least no one had panicked over his state yet and tried to 'fix' him. He suppose he could be grateful for that.

At this point, Sabel would take victories wherever he could get them. Atreyu's slight start was one of the ones he would take a minor victory in. The kid did have a knowing look about him though, and Sabel made a mental note of it as he moved to take his seat.

See, he was probably just partially visible. Surely Professor Dakest knew how to apparate and disapparate properly, so he hadn't splinched his bottom half. He hadn't messed up a spell, and then decided to hold a class. That didn't make sense. So this was a deliberate bit of magic, and it probably had something to do with what they were going to learn today, and Davie didn't need to waste the professor's time asking him about it.

He greeted the man, finally, with a sharp nod of respect, taking his chalkboard over to the corner to sit down.

Then, there was the Truebridge boy. Admittedly, Sabel had been curious as to what his reaction might be. He was rather pleased when there was some sort of reaction, as deliberate and thoughtful as it was.

"Mr. Truebridge. Looking mighty contemplative this morning." Did he care to share his insight?

Seeing the written instructions, Janelle grabbed a blackboard and chalk. She waved to Adi and Cinna, then she found an nice empty spot on the floor and sat down. From there, she could see everyone as they arrived for class. People watching was always a good way to pass the time.

Turning his attention to Guidry, Sabel couldn't help but grin. "No need to split my title in half, just because I'm half here." It was an interesting effect though, and so far the first response of it's kind.

"Good morning... Professor." Half of the professor, she noted as she walked through the door. Interesting, but not really a surprise. More of an invitation to be even more excited about what they would learn today. Without question, Evie followed the directions on the board and obtained a board and a piece of chalk and found a place to sit as she waited for the rest of her classmates to show up.

The ones that had reactions were starting to become like little bits of glee sprinkled in among those that were rather calm about the whole thing. Young Winchester's was no exception to that.

With all the innocence he could muster, however, Sabel blinked back at the boy, tilted his own head and then promptly looked around himself, as if there was something behind or about that was amiss. Besides himself of course. Most of the students were demonstrating it was rather normal.

She'd used some Not-So-Sleeping Beauty and Dry Eyes from Madame Primpernelles to combat the dark, sleepy circles under her eyes and her dry, tired eyes themselves, so one might not have known she seemed to be especially exhausted today. But she was, especially after her run she took anyway, and only the trained eye would've still been able to see those traces of exhaustion in her complexion and demeanor.

But it was DEFENSE time, so that at least helped a little in providing her with the pick-me-up she needed. It was always fun to see Dakest, and--

That smug smirk was the first thing she noticed, followed closely by his missing bottom half. He was ridiculous, did he know? He was like an excited little kid bursting at the seams, like he had a BIG secret to tell, but his secret wasn't a secret at all because everyone could see him. Nerd. "You are... something else, sir," was her choice of greeting, an amused smile accompanying her words as she caught sight of the instructions about the chalk and retrieved her own board and piece of chalk to accompany it.

Turning back to survey the class and her options of where to sit... Sophie hesitated. There was Zander, which was the obvious choice, and Penelope, Ilia, Ethan, Norah, Cinna, Davie, Janelle... and, of course, Evangeline Shacklebolt. Defense Against the Dark Arts class used to make her think of Mo, but ever since last term, it felt like her class with Evie, as she and Evie had bonded with Dakest together at the very start of the term. Dakest was like a bond that held them together... or used to, until everything unraveled at the seams at the beginning of THIS term.

Still... Sophie threw an apprehensive look at Dakest, then at Evie, then at Dakest again, as if silently conveying her thought process of... If I sit with her and she gets mean again like I told you, you'll take care of it, right? Not that she couldn't handle herself, except that... she couldn't handle herself. Not this. She'd never had to deal with someone hating her before and going out of their way to be mean to her. This was a new experience for Sophie Brown and she hated it, but... what... better way to try to work this through than with Dakest there to supervise? Dakest wouldn't tolerate Evie being rude to her in the way she had been in charms class, so...

Before she could stop her feet, they were already taking her over to her dormmate, and Sophie sat down cross-legged beside Evie, her board in her lap, and gave the Head Babe an uncertain smile. "Know y'hate me now, but this class feels like ours 'n it'd feel wrong to sit somewhere else. My uncool isn't contagious," or whatever, "you're not gonna catch it." Humoring her, all right? Just because Evie hated her, it didn't mean Sophie wanted to stop being friends with her. She just... wanted to work it out.

But could they?

Thing with Brown was, he knew her. A bit better than the other students because she had more of a habit of visiting his office than others. So, that alone made him privy to the fact that she wasn't really all as awake as she appeared to be. Something was amiss, almost more than his missing legs.

Still, she got a grin back for her good efforts on humoring him. "I'm well aware, Ms. Brown." And at the moment, quite proud of it. Did she know?

He watched her as she moved about, and just about stalled. If there was a deer in the headlights in the room, it was her and it had nothing to do with him. Sabel didn't miss how her eyes flicked from him to Shacklebolt and back. One eyebrow arched, but he said and did nothing.

His gaze connected with Shacklebolt's too, albeit briefly. A quiet grunt left him as he looked between the two friends, or once-be's, whichever it was now. Hopefully, they knew better than to interrupt his lesson with drama.

Out of all the reactions that had come and passed this morning, Sabel found the most enjoyment in Romalotti's. He watched with an arched eyebrow and no small hint of an amused smirk on his lips as the kid dared to do a bit of his own investigating.

It was curious watching Daxton enter the classroom. There was more expression given to the chalkboards than to his own current state, something which should have been telling of something but of which Sabel wasn't quite sure of. He still hadn't figured the kid out, and frankly he wasn't sure that was going to happen anytime soon.

What he did catch however, was the blatant disregard for instructions. Had the kid not borrowed a book from him, he would have wondered at his ability to read. With an arch to his eyebrow, Sabel moved over to the chalk boards, plucked one up and made his way over to the Ravenclaw.

"Mr. Prince. Goodmorning." Without ceremony, he handed the chalkboard and chalk down to the kid. "You'll be needing these this morning."

Exceptions were hard come-by in his classroom.

Excitement. Excitement and enthusiasm was good. Especially so early in the morning. It could, of course, be a cause of distraction, but at this point in time Sabel found no fault in it. As long as the students were settled when they started, they could be lively and geared up.

"Mr. Scabior. Good to have you with us this morning." And, he looked indeed to be the last of them.

It seemed that all who would be joining them here today, were in fact here in one capacity or another and they were due to start. No need to make the students wait any longer on such an early morning lesson.

With a flick of his wand, Sabel shut the doors to the training hall and turned his attention on the gathered lot. An amused grin held onto his expression as his gaze roamed over the group.

"I have to say, I'm impressed at the stride which most of you took to my current state. Either this is a common sight for some of you, or Hogwarts has done a fine job in desensitizing you to the strange." Good or bad? They could decide.

He looked down at himself briefly. "Thank you, to those of you who expressed concern. I am in fact, as most of you seem to have come to the conclusion of already, quite alright."

Maybe a bit wonky in the head too, but that was besides the point.

"I imagine you all have some sort of idea as to what I have done to myself, and what you will later be doing to yourselves as well." Cue the devious grin that might as well have belonged to any one of the students now present. "But first, before we can go and start loosing ourselves, we must develop a basis of knowledge. That, and I have an announcement."

Moving to the center of the classroom, Sabel clasped his hands behind his back. "For those of you that may be interested, Hogwarts will be hosting a dueling club this year. It is open to all students, from all houses and years. The Club will consist of Meetings and a Tournament, of which the winner will be granted a reward, which I will not disclose at this time. The first meeting will be November 13. For those wishing to join the club, you can pick up a permission form after class. Please have it to me before November 13. If you have questions about the club, please retain them until the end of the lesson."

Now, to business.

Releasing his hands, Sabel took a seat in front of the group in front of the group. He could only imagine what a strange sight he must make. "Now, back to the matter at hand. To start us off, I would like each of you to write on your chalkboards two things. The first, what spell or means might be used to create this state of invisiblity." A gesture to his non-existent bottom half. "The second, what means might be used to detect a state of invisibility. Keep in mind that while there are specific spells to accomplish both of these tasks in a direct manner, there are also indirect ways which can be just as, if not more, useful."

His gaze roamed around the room. "Do not be afraid to be creative or out-of-box thinkers. Keep in mind the lesson you are in, and the situations in which you may need to apply these two spells when you are coming up with your answers."

Turning slightly, Sabel motioned to where all the pegs were on the wall. "When you are done, hang your chalkboard back on the wall and we will discuss some of the answers."

-------------
OOC: First mini-mini assignment! For this your charrie needs to on the boards the two things which have been asked (a way to create invisibility and a way to detect invisibility). Creative answers are encouraged

Class will move on in approximately 20-24 hours from this post (sorry, work the whole day, otherwise it would be sooner)

If you are just joining, please feel free to jump right in as if your charrie has been here the whole time!

Thank you for your brilliant greetings. I really enjoyed reading them all <3

‘I imagine you all have some sort of idea as to what I have done to myself, and what you will later be doing to yourselves as well.’

As Professor Dakest had said that, it had taken every ounce of self-control in her body for Brooklyn not to roll her eyes. There wasn’t any blood or anything, so she felt it was obvious what he’d done. Or, obvious he’d use done of two methods, but she figured one could be eliminated rather quickly. People didn’t usually wear cloaks around their legs after all. Only their legs. That meant it had to be the other, although she’d watched him for a few more seconds quietly before she picked up her chalkboard. Just to make absolutely sure nothing really strange was going on.
Quote:
I’d guess you used a Disillusionment charm, as that can make body parts, people or anything disappear. Although an Invisibility cloak could work too, but it’s harder to really stay invisible.
One way to detect something invisible would be throwing paint or flour or anything that might stick to it at it. Or Homenum Revelio.
There. She’d sort of been creative, and the chalkboard got hung back on the peg she’d taken it from. Creative in as much as she felt like it. Either way, she figured they were all going to be turning themselves invisible before long. It would be interesting, anyhow.

Better half of him indeed. He can just imagine the upset girls if the professor did the reverse. Althoughin his own opinion, it would've been more fun to just...learn from a pair of legs, yeah?

He did fall victim to the Professor's...lesson/prank alright, but that was enough to jump start his day, and be extra attentive. He's just thankful that he was doing it in broad daylight, because it would've been a different story if it was done in the evening. Good one, professor. Well done!

It was kind of hard to concentrate when their teacher sat on the floor with them. The sight was pretty disorienting in a way. Well, he ought to know what the professor did to himself by now, sure, but Ethan's gears started to churn, wondering if it was the Disillusionment Charm, the Invisibility Spell, or the Concealment Charm. The seventh year ruled out the invisibility spell, because he knew it won't last as long as a disillusionment charm. The Concealment charm was eliminated too because...well, Dakest isn't hiding something with magical properties down there, right? RIGHT. So, yes, Disillusionment Charm it is.

Picking up his chalk, he wrote down his answer, and as soon as he was done, stood up and hung the board back at the wall.

Quote:
The spell used was the Disillusionment Charm and can be lifted by using the human revealing spell, Homenum Revelio. Another way to detect human presence would be through noise from movements, body heat, and smell.

After smiling at the Professor, Paulina turned her attention to Benny who had joined her. "Hello," she said with a smile. She was glad that he was sitting with her and she was glad that he seemed to be in better spirits after what happened in Astronomy. Opening her mouth to ask him how he was, she immediately stopped as Professor Dakest started speaking.

It was good to hear that he was okay even though she had figured he was. Not as if the man appeared to be in distress or anything. More interesting than that though, was the announcement of a Dueling Club. Even though she wasn't particularly a fan of dueling, participating would really help her when it came to the Charms and DADA NEWTs. Probably a good idea to sign up.

For the moment, however, she needed to focus on the lesson at hand. Biting her lip, she wrote her thoughts down on the chalk board:

Quote:
I think the Disillusionment Charm is a good way to achieve this type of invisibility because it would be harder to do so with an Invisibility Cloak.

Setting up booby traps is a good way to detect invisibility - especially something like a net because then you could see the form of the invisible person.
Shrugging at her answers, Paulina got up and returned her chalk board to its peg before taking her seat again.

Dora giggled at his bow and momentarily thought about poking his dimple, but class and all... had to BEHAVE. So just giggles it was! Pink did look dashing on the Professor, she thought, as he slipped the flower into his button hole. Hehehhee.

WELLL okay. Dora knew a few things... she had studied her text for the class and well, her Dad was... pretty free about answering her questions most days. Picking up her chalk she began to write"

Quote:
The Disillusionment Charm will make one invisible, but an Invisibility cloak will also. A real cloak, made with Demiguise hair is rare, though... or one that actually lasts and works.

Homenium Revelio, is a spell to detect invisible HUMANS. Not sure it works on creatures or the like... what if there is an invisible house elf waiting to attack? WHAT THEN?
She stopped writing once she realized... she had begun to wrote down random thoughts... oh well. It was all pretty VALID, right? Sure it was. Hehe.

Jet looked into the blank chalkboard for a while. 'Think outside the box', he had basically said. Her first thoughts went straight to the Disillusionment and the Human-Presence Revealing Charms. However, that was not thinking outside the box at all, but those were probably the most effective ways of doing what had been asked.

After thinking for a few minutes, Jet quickly wrote down her ideas.

Quote:
Invisibility Spell

Magical artifacts, such as a magical eye.
She got up and placed the chalkboard where it was meant to be and walked back to where she was previously.

Barefooted, Sabbath had entered the DADA classroom. He’d greeted Professor Dakest who was standing in the centre of room receiving his students. Sabbath cricked his eyebrow, 'Well, this gives a whole new meaning to turning up to class legless!' He joked to himself when he saw that lower half of the professor was missing. However, he actually did find it quite an impressive feat and he realised he could probably learn a lot from Professor Dakest.

Sabbath was keen to start learning. He grabbed a chalkboard, sat down and started addressing the Professors first set task:

Quote:
I have no idea how to create invisibility, but I definitely intend to find out - that's a mighty fine trick if you’re caught with your pants down, Sir!
I guess, to detect invisibility you could fire a muggle fire extinguisher in the suspected direction and coat the person with the non-flammable powder.
Sabbath crossed the room, hung up his chalkboard and returned to his spot.

You knowwww Charlotte had (as always) intended to go sit with Davie (OF COURSE! BFF) but she had SEEN PRINCE DAXTON being all suspicious and going and sitting on his lonely only, so when she had come in, she'd skipped right on over with a chalkboard tucked neatly under her arm, done a little twirl (a bit like a cat or a dog turning around on the spot before making itself comfortable) and dramatically flopped on the floor next to him.

As for PROFESSOR Sabel, Char waved cheerfully, impish smile on her face, and apparently took no particular notice of his missing bottom half, though ACTUALLY she was considering throwing a bit of paper or something to see if it bounced off his legs or went right through, because that would change things, if he was now just half of a Dakest. It would frighten Emma pretty bad, she was sure. HOWEVER, despite flights of fancy that immediately occurred (SHEWOULDGOONAMISSIONTORESTOREPROFESSORSABEL'SLEGS !), Char wasn't stupid, and immediately guessed what the situation was, and therefore because it was actually kind of mundane to her mind, she turned her attention to Daxton.

.... and crossed her eyes and poked out her tongue and then smiled REAL big before writing on the chalkboard: 'did the assassins steal your shoes?'

Also, she had a BURNING question for Professor Sabel though okay? One that proved she had read the rules for herself and everything.

.........

..... WHY WAS CHOCOLATE FORBIDDEN TWICE? Did it mean that there would be NO dementors in here ever? OR did it mean he had his own emergency chocolate stash for dealing with the aftermath of dark creature exposure???

Super important things to know, okay? But Char didn't quite get to open her mouth when he started talking and started the class and stuff. OH DUELING CLUB? YEAH! YEAHHH!!! It was too MUCH! Too much excitement! OH MERLIN!

HOW could he announce THAT and expect anyone her to do any work now?

She could defeat ALL of Daxton's assassins with the powers that she would CLEARLY develop in dueling club! EEEEE!

Daxton blinked at Dakest as the half-a-man stood before him. Or rather, he blinked at the chalk and chalkboard that were being held out to him, feeling an awful shiver run through him that he tried his best to repress. Just thinking about writing with those made him go all tense, but the longer Dakest stood there, the more likely people would look in this direction, and Daxton could think of little else less appealing. In the end, figuring that taking the writing instruments did not mean he would use them, he reached out and took the chalkboard, and held out his hand for the chalk to be dropped into.

But before it could make contact with his skin, Daxton quickly moved his hand out of the way, so it fell to the floor and snapped in half instantly. On the one hand, that was satisfying, but on the other, Daxton now had two gross pieces of chalk in the immediate vicinity.

... No, three. Because Char was here, chalkboard and chalk in hand, and sitting right beside him for some inexplicable reason. Daxton barely had time to register this before she began scrawling on her chalkboard, setting his teeth on edge with the horrible sound. Quick as he could, Daxton covered his ears with his hands to avoid the highly unpleasant sound; only when he was absolutely sure she had stopped did he uncover them again, shaking his head 'no' at the message she had written him.

There was not much time for conversation, however (though the topic of assassins was one that he absolutely needed to cover with Char at some point), as the lesson soon began. Daxton paid close attention, though it may have looked more like he was staring off into space. There was mention of a Duelling Club again, which piqued his interest for all the wrong reasons, and then there came the first set of instructions. Instructions Daxton was not going to follow, because he was not touching that chalk, and he was not writing on a chalkboard, and-

His chain of thought was interrupted by what felt to him like the most painful screeching sound, piercing his eardrums and penetrating his skull and making his brain rattle in his head. It made him sick to his stomach, and somehow even just the sound was remniscient of the feel of the stuff, which made it all the worse. Daxton pushed his chalkboard off of his lap and covered his ears once more, clamping his hands down as hard as he could, desperate to avoid the noise and momentarily, in his panic, forgetting the earmuffs that still hung about his neck.

It only strengthened his resolve. Not touching it not touching it not touching it.

Char wasn't actually COMPLETELY clueless, it turned out. Even while she was bouncing on the spot and having AMAZING FANTASIES about how BOSS she would be at dueling, Char still managed to notice a thing or two, including Daxton's obvious distaste for chalk sounds. Come to think of it..... it wasn't just chalk that he got all weird about was it? Tilting her head to one side and eyeing him thoughtfully, Char noted the earmuffs about his neck, and quite helpfully reached over and lifted them up over his ears, being surprisingly conscientious about not touching him.

Was that better?

She scrawled a quick message on her chalkboard and held it in front of him to read (because obviously with earmuffs he couldn't hear her).

Asking her? Oh, it must be because of the splint on her shoulder. The professor didn't need to know that this injury was caused by an older student cast a fail levitating charm on her... and she's the one who insisted to do it. "I'm good, sir." Ava nodded at him. She just slightly waved to Adi when he waved at her. And also, Henric was here too. Maybe he still felt guilty about her shoulder because he was the one who made her fell. "It's getting better." The firstie said to him. No need to worry about her, she's healing pretty fast!

----------------

Duelling club, ohmygosh! Ava was soooooooo excited to join! Once the class over, she's gonna run to the owlery and asked her mother if she could give write a permission letter for her. And their first task for this class was.... writing. Okay, this was just an activity, not a test. She was panic and blurted out at Charms before when Professor Baxter asked to write a paragraph too at her class. Okay then, the problem was she couldn't write properly since her left shoulder was injured and she is left-handed. But she tried to write first.

Quote:
Disillusionment charm can be used to make something invisible. Like, hiding the chocolate frogs and all the sweets from your twin brother.

To detect it, maybe we can use a magic spray or fake-eye?
Yup. That's enough. Thankfully she could still write although her handwriting was quite messy because of this injury.

He had just been about to squeeze his eyes shut for good measure, when a movement out of the corner of his eye made Daxton glad that he had not already done so. This way, he was prepared for Char to... do whatever it was she was doing. He tensed up and got ready to retaliate, fully expecting her to touch him, but the next thing he knew, he felt the unfamiliar fabric of his earmuffs close over the tops of his hands.

Daxton was completely nonplussed. She hadn't touched him at all. In fact, her actions worked completely in his favour. He blinked, then slid his hands out from under his earmuffs so they covered his ears on their own and blocked out the noise, and looked up at Char's chalkboard to read her message.

For a moment, he stalled. As a general rule, Daxton did not accept help, not not like to admit that he needed help (because he never needed help). But then, he had been looking forward to Defence Against the Dark Arts classes for a good long while, and he actually wanted to participate. For a few moments, he struggled with the internal dilemma, staring at one of the little snails Char had drawn. Finally, with his expression still as impassive as ever, he gave a single nod of his head and picked up his notebook and wrote his answer.

Quote:
The Disillusionment Charm can be used to make a person invisible or close to it. A person could also use mirrors to create an illusion of invisibility. Alternatively, camouflage is also possible.

Homenum Revelio reveals an invisible human, just as it reveals a non-invisible, hidden human. As well as revealing the invisible person, you can also rely on your other senses to detect them without magic.
Daxton did not dot any dots with snails, or any other animal, vegetable or mineral. Just small, neatly printed words in biro on paper. When he was done, he held out the notebook so Char could read it, and nudged his chalkboard across to her.

Ilia muttered the Colovaria charm quietly at her chalk to change it green as she sat and waited. She doubted the professor would care and it would look better that way, in her personal opinion. It didn't take long for more students to file in and soon she heard a familiar voice as he flopped down beside her. Beaming a big ol' grin to him she bowed her head in greeting. "Good Morning , Adi." She then nodded her head towards the professor rather than pointing to emphasize her point. "Are you excited for today?" The half there professor had to have something good up his sleeve.....it was him.

More people shuffled in , but no one tried to sit next to her. Everyone seemed to have the idea of trying to sit alone as best they could, she didn't blame them honestly and was glad she didn't have people that she did not know well sitting too close to her. She probably still needed to work on her issues with her personal bubble but...oh well. Not to fear though, because Henric moseyed his tall mess of sleepy Puff self over to her. She smiled brightly up at him and moved her bag aside so he could sit beside her. "Good Morning Sleepyhead." She reached up to ruffle the back of his hair.

SPOILER!!: Individual Greeting Replies

At last!

Rehman?"

His attention turned back to the door and the approaching students as a familiar voice snagged his ears. A warm smile overcame his features, mingled with the slight curious quirk of his brow. "Good morning Ms. Kittredge."

Admittedly, he was slightly disappointed that he wasn't able to get a reaction out of her. There was a small one, but the young girl appeared incredibly schooled and in control of her expressions. Good. A bit disappointing, but good.

His eyes were really having a hard time this morning. From the disheveled state of Ms. Valentine to the sparkly and crisp composure of Ms. Lynch, it was like looking from the dead of night straight into a burning candle. It made him blink a few times.

Perhaps Lynch could give Valentine a few lessons on morning grooming habits?

"Good morning Ms. Lynch." Her warm smile was returned, as was the small smirk. Another one not yet bothered, but not because of any lack of diligence in observation.

Another calm reactor. Merlin, these kids were good.

"Ms. Messer. A fine morning I hope?" She didn't look too ruffled around the edges, but more a half-state of awake and not-yet-awake. As long as she didn't go drooling on the chalkboard...

Sabel's head turned with a grin to the next arrival. "Mr. Barrington. Good morning. It's good to see you in full health." Heh.

Though, was that a mischievous glint he caught in the kid's eye? Merlin, what was he going to create after this lesson was said and done?

And then, there was his own mischievous nature.

Sabel couldn't help himself as Adair did a double-take-eye-rub. He tucked his hands in his pockets (which were in fact still on his person), though it had the effect of making his hands promptly disappear. Rocking on his heels which couldn't be seen, he gave the kid the most natural smile in the world. As if everything was completely normal.

"Morning Mr. Adair. Something in your eye?"

"Ms. Holiday. Nice to see you."

At this point, Sabel would take victories wherever he could get them. Atreyu's slight start was one of the ones he would take a minor victory in. The kid did have a knowing look about him though, and Sabel made a mental note of it as he moved to take his seat.

"Morning Mr. Atreyu.

Turning his attention to Guidry, Sabel couldn't help but grin. "No need to split my title in half, just because I'm half here." It was an interesting effect though, and so far the first response of it's kind.

He nodded at the young girl. "Nice to see you, Ms. Guidry."

And there was the hope-to-be-Auror. Sabel watched the young girl carefully as she entered the room, doing little to hide the fact that he was giving her a rather evaluative consideration. If she still wanted to be an Auror, then reactions to these sorts of scenarios was important.

He had to admit, while slightly disappointed, he was impressed. Not a flinch, blink or change in expression. "Shacklebolt. Good to see you."

Yes, yes he would be watching her throughout the lesson. No pressure though.

"Mr. Winchester. Pleasure to meet you. Is...something amiss?"

And then there was a beam of sunshine dancing through the tension, flower in hand and all. The grin was back instantly and Sabel couldn't keep the chuckle in.

"Good morning little miss." Bending down slightly, Sabel took the flower with a bit of a bow. "Why, thank you."

He straightened to tuck it into the front button of his shirt, not caring what the other students might think. After all, he did look pretty silly and that was of his own doing. To not disappoint a young child? He'd look as foolish as a penguin in flight.

With the flower firmly in place, Sabel turned his attention to the last few students trickling in. And they didn't disappoint.

"Professor Dakest, if you please. Or just Professor." Because it sounded like the kid had got a bit tongue tied, though he soon enough had it figured out. "And good morning yourself, Mr. Vogel. Everything quite alright?"

Out of all the reactions that had come and passed this morning, Sabel found the most enjoyment in Romalotti's. He watched with an arched eyebrow and no small hint of an amused smirk on his lips as the kid dared to do a bit of his own investigating.

"Mr. Romalotti. Good to see you." And good to see a mind that wasn't too afraid of acting on curiosity.

Turning back to the classroom, Sabel cast his gaze over those gathered. Almost time to start.

He picked his way between the students, pausing to spare a smile at Nicolei. "Good morning yourself." His smile turned into a grin at the compliment, and he nodded in recognition. "My thanks. I'm quite fond of it myself."

There was something slightly off about the kid, but at the moment, Sabel couldn't quite place it. The Hufflepuff got a momentary, appraising look before he was moving on and back to the front of the room.

Stopping at the front of the room, Sabel turned back to the classroom and caught Wojack-Gusey playing musical seats with herself. A curious endeavor, and one which he hoped didn't last the entire lesson.

"Good morning, Ms. Wojack-Gusey." His smile turned into a knowing grin as he glanced at his legs and then back up at the young girl. "Is that so? I had been wondering what was wrong. Thank you."

She was bright and bubbly after the half there professor greeted her back and she was eager to hear what he had to say this morning. After greeting her boys, her attention went straight back to the man before her. If she had a tail , it would have been twitching with excitement , despite the outwardly calm demeanor she held. When he spoke of reactions to his current state, she half wondered if she should have feigned some surprise on his behalf? Her family was pretty strange and Hogwarts was very strange, strange was just too normal in her world to get upset about it.

Did he just say DUELING CLUB!? Her pretty little head whipped in the direction of the sign up forms so fast she could have given herself whiplash. She was ABSOLUTELY getting one of those. Although.......her parents *coughcoughmother* was going to be an obstacle. Give her a chance......or just send it straight to daddy and beg? Choices.....ones that would be dealt with later......

Alright, back to her little chalk board....A way to become invisible and a way to detect invisibility. Hmmm......what had her father told her about that again? She picked up her newly green chalk and began to write with a small smile.

One way to detect invisibility that might be more broadly useful, would be the use of a Probity Probe. They detect concealment spells or hidden magical objects when waved about, so perhaps it would be more enlightening than a charm such as Homenum Revelio.

Daxton did not dot any dots with snails, or any other animal, vegetable or mineral. Just small, neatly printed words in biro on paper. When he was done, he held out the notebook so Char could read it, and nudged his chalkboard across to her.

Well okay see? That worked really good! Charlotte took PRINCE Daxton's chalkboard and wrote out the answer he'd done on his notebook, and even left off (most) of the snails. Only one, a little one, at the very end.

Once she was done with that, she placed it in front of him, gave him a VERY ENTHUSIASTIC double thumbs up, and picked her own chalkboard up again.

...... what was the question again? Oh yeah!

Tongue poking out just a bit, Charlotte wrote her answer in the space that was left, it not having had occurred to her to erase what she'd written, she simply crossed it out so that there was essentially a scribbly border around her lengthy answer (with which, she provided diagrams, so there wasn't a single bit of space left by the time she was done).

You could make someone THINK someone or something is invisible, even if they AREN'T, like put a glamour on just that one person that you want not to see a thing, or use one of those complicated MIND SPELLS to make them think they are seeing (or not seeing) something, or HYPNOTIZE THEM like you can do with chickens! (*insert here a diagram of a chicken being hypnotized, and an arrow pointing to a patch where there was nothing, because that was meant to be the bit that the chicken couldn't see*)

You could probably throw a little scrap of paper or something else at where the thing that you think is there that you can't see (like your legs), and if it bounces off the nothing, then there's actually a something! Or you could use a potion probably! Or even water maybe you could throw that! Because it would still drip and make puddles or footprints and that would give the invisible thing away! (*and insert two helpful pictures, one of screwed up paper balls being tossed at invisible legs, and one of drippy wet footprints*)
By the time she was done, it was quite a feat to be able to decipher everything on her chalkboard, there was a LOT going on (including little snails dotting her i's), one needed to give it time to SINK in.

A few blinks later, AJ felt a tiny bit more aware of her surroundings. At least enough so that she could process the professor was indeed talking to her, and a response was probably necessary. At the very least it would be polite to speak back. She rubbed her eyes and flicked away an eye booger that escaped on to her hand. "More sleep." You would think she was a cave man. Eventually she would wake up...

Benny arrived... or maybe not? "Hi--" she managed to squeak out before he decided on sitting over there with another girl. If AJ had been fully awake this would have been highly suspicious. For now though, she could only focus on one problem at a time, and that one problem was staying awake. Priorities!

The lesson was starting which meant that she needed to wake up. Not one, but TWO questions were being asked and all at once. Wasn't there a rule about this? It was too early for mess. "Think, Valentine," she thought to herself. Wait a minute. Did he say a dueling club? AJ's eyes brightened and her ears perked up. She was all about that life. It would be better to ask her dad to sign the permission slip because her mom wasn't always so understanding when it came to "violence" as she liked to refer to it.

Picking up her chalk she began to scribble things down in a sort of legible fashion.

If something seems fishy, it probably is. You could flail your arms about and see if you make contact with something hard. I mean, I would be able to feel your legs right now, right?
Hopefully that all made sense. She was waking up, but it was a process. Now she needed to put her chalkboard up. "Pssst... can you put mine up with yours? Pretty please!" she asked of Adi.

Cool
~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.

The Man Crush Dakest had a good sense of humour. Yes, he did! Adi slapped his forehead. "Come to think of it, I did see someone's lower half trying to get into the KITCHEN. But having no hands, it couldn't tickle the pear... so it was just slumped there dejectedly against the wall.'' Hahaaa.
...................
Ilia and her bows. Ever the polite man child, he returned the bow with his head. "You bet I am! What about you?'' It was super nice to see that she wasn't sleepy. Early risers, FTW!

Adi happily watched the other students file in. Great Hippogriffs! So many sleepy ones! Included in that bunch was AJ, of course. He just smiled and shook his head when she entered the room, looking beautiful as ever. Yep, even with the hair and the sleepy face, she thought she was the most beautiful girl in the class. No, in the world. "Morning!'' She a huge grin. "Come on, Sleeping Beauty! Wake up!''

Benny didn't seem to be that sleepy. "Hi.'' Squint, squint. Sitting with Paulina today, are we? Okay. If it weren't for the fact that AJ was on one side of him and Ilia on the other, Adi would be a sulky Hufflepuff. LOL. Oh, heeeeey, Janelle! Hey, Henny. Why not cheery, chum?
...................

But no more concern could be expressed over Henric right now. Wait... waaaah? They would be doing the invisibility to themselves later? COOOOOL! And as for the Dueling Club... DOUBLE COOL! Adi would definitely be picking up a permission slip!

Okaaaay, so they were supposed to write what may have caused the invisibility? Adi knew very well it may be the Disillusionment Charm but everyone would go with that answer, yes? Why not separate himself from the crowd a bit? Dakest did say that they could be creative. Adi wrote on his board:

SPOILER!!: Adi's board!
Wrapping an Invisibility Cloak around your lower half, Professor, may have helped create the illusion that have of you is missing.
Breathing, body temperature or ifthe invisible person knocks anything over or creates any noise can be used to detect invisibility. It it's an object that's invisible, I suppose just feeling about will have to do. But if it's hidden messages, the Revealing Charm can be used.

All done, the Puffer jumped up to hang his board. Oh! AJ wanted him to hang hers too? How could he say no to her? Not to his baby. "Yup but you owe me,'' he kidded. Both of their boards in hand, he hung them up. Holy Griffs! Looking at their boards after he sat again, Adi noticed something... the couple almost had written the same answers! How awesome was that?

Daxton saw that, Charlotte Kettleburn. That snail. And he had not drawn a snail in his notebook so there really should not have been one on his chalkboard. He said nothing about it though (obviously), and simply read through the transcription to make sure everything was present and correct. Aside from the fact that her handwriting was nowhere near as neat as his meticulous printing, everything seemed fine.

Giving a vague half-nod, Daxton left Char to it and pushed himself up to his feet. He gave the class a wide berth, tiptoeing across the stone floor, before hanging his chalkboard up with the others and returning back to his spot. He had decided to leave the snail drawing alone, even if only because he did not want to touch the surface of the chalkboard at all.

Reclaiming his space on the floor by the wall, Daxton sat himself back down and eyed the two broken pieces of chalk that still remained there beside him. Well, that simply would not do. He used the end of his wand to flick them a short way away, not being the slightest bit sneaky about the matter, before slipping his wand back up his sleeve. Daxton glanced at Char, then directed his attention back to Dakest so he knew when it would be time to try uncovering his ears again.

Deuling club. WICKED. She'd be picking up one of those permission forms, uh huh. The even more wicked thing was that they were talking about INVISIBILITY though, 'cause there were even more cool things she could do with that. So many jokes and surprises and extra desserts! This was going to be her kind of spell, she could already tell.

Rolling the chalk over in her fingers, Norah bent over her board.
Quote:
I'm not really sure what exact spell is used for this, but I don't think it's a vanishing spell because those are really hard. Plus if his legs had been vanished he wouldn't be able to stand. So I'm not really sure what the invisibility one is. Maybe it's the disollusionment disallusionment disillusionment kind of charm and we just can't tell because we haven't done an up-close inspection. Or maybe his pants turn his legs invisible because they're like invisibility cloak pants! That'd be super cool. And I bet we can tell if something invisible is there by poking all the empty spaces in the room. That'd take a long time, though, so maybe by listening really hard, or a spell but I don't know what spell.
BOOM. There was no telling if her answers were right at all, but at least she had something. But now there was nothing to do but sit. And stare. And try to avoid looking at Professor Dakest's face.
