SPOILER!!: David
Hey look, this could be easy. "Hi. I'm David." He scooted his mat a little closer to the older Slytherin with the House-matching streaks in her hair. "So... let's be partners? I'm assuming you already know these spells, probably." She'd probably used them loads of times.

Hardly a minute must have passed before a little firstie was scooting over on his mat towards her. This kid wanted to be partners. Well alright.

Hady gave a nod of her head. "Sure," She agreed. "We can be partners and that I do." Know both spells that is. Well. She used them all the time and she could probably even help this younger boy out if he needed it. With a tiny smile she added a second later, "I'm Hady."

Snags Rooney

Maybe Charms wasn't the class that he would excel in. He was just going to have to think more about his answers before he said them in classes. The fact that they weren't supposed to answer the questions now baffled him and he tried his hardest to think about his answers properly, but couldn't when Professor Baxter moved them on soon after.

Moving things on was problematic for him to THINK about his answers. REALLY.

............. pARTNER? Um. Hellloooooo?

"Hey man,its alright...I think its really brilliant, kind of cool really, sorry she ain't amused by it though,"he whispered to the Ravenclaw boy. "I'm Henric by the way, want to be partners?" He extended his hand, smiling gently."So what do you about the spells,Rooney? Your name is Rooney right?" he asked.

She turned to face him, pulling her back with her so she could rummage around for her notes from before. She pulled out two chocolate frogs, a drawing of a cat from who knows when, and her Astronomy notes from fourth year, before finally getting to the slightly crumpled charms parchment. She smoothed it on the floor. There. All better. Pausing to drop one of the chocolate frogs in Oliver's bag and put a finger in front of her lips so he'd know not to shout about it (food wasn't allowed in this classroom either, right? Or was that just one of Professor Culloden's rules? Who knew, at this point), she skimmed her notes.

"Well it says here that the disarming charm's incantation is 'expelliarmus' and the shield charm's one is 'protego,'" she began slowly, bringing the parchment closer to her nose in attempt to make out scribbly handwriting. The wand movement was....uh....what did that say? Maybe Oliver would know, even if he was still a firstie. After that genius niffler idea he'd had, Norah wouldn't be surprised if he were some sort of prodigy. They could move on to the deeper questions Professor Baxter had asked if he didn't know the wand movements either.

Yay! She wanted to be partners. Oliver was impressed when Norah began pulling things out of her bag. It was a good thing she was prepared, and so smart and stuff. He was, however, distracted and not looking at the parchment because he was looking at the chocolate frog that she had dropped into his bag. Oliver beamed at Norah but didn't say anything, following her silent cue. Right. No food. As long as he ate it later, it would be okay.

It was a good thing that she took notes, because he sure didn't. But at least he would have known the incantations of these spells. Wand movements though, he didn't know as much about those.

"I'm pretty sure the motion for the disarming charm is a swish and flick." He demonstrated. Swish and flick. The other one though, he didn't know the motion for that. Did Norah have it in her notes?

he's UP FOR GRABS if you want him but also understandable if you dont want him xD

Man.

Seventh year and Zander Adair STILL didn't understand how everyone knew ALL THE THINGS about ALL THE PEOPLE. And he had WATCHED everyone eating for the past six years and no one ate textbooks for breakfast. So either they were doing it in secret or textbooks looked a lot like Shepard's pie.

But um. That was besides the point.

Because people were partnering up now and he didn't have one.

But did he really want one was the real question here? Because they were gonna be doing nonverbals again... Well Seventh Years were gonna have to do nonverbals again and Zander Adair wasn't sure if he fancied embarrassing himself yet again. So uh. Yeah.

But also, working alone was never fun so YOOHOOO? ANYONE WANNA PARTNER UP? Preferably one of those that doesn't swallow textbooks 'cause that's intimidating.

He took his hand back then, and opened up his notebook to the relevant pages of his notes. "Are we talking about the spells or about Flitwick and how we would cope in a battle situation?" Because he had answers for both. His eyes scanned the parchment in his notebook for a few moments before he looked back up at Henric. "Do you think that you'd be able to cast a spell you had mastered one day? Would you be a master of it in battle?" He was still considering his answer.

Like.. what if he was using a spell he'd been a master of for fifty years? Something that had became a habit? Would he really do it wrong then? He could tie his shoelaces now without looking and whilst reading or talking. That meant he could do things he KNEW how to..

Great!"Cool,"Henric replied as he shook Rooney's hand."I'm thinking both, like what he would use to defend and offense during the battle of Hogwarts,he'll probably use a more advance version of the spells of course...I've only known a few, 'Expelliarmus' for disarming and 'Protego' for shielding, what about you Rooney?"he asked the boy. He thought maybe the first year would know a little something about it if he did his reading atleast.

Henric thought over Rooney's question for a second,"I mean if you practiced it to perfection,yeah...you'll probably be a master of it in a battle...but it depends you know, every spell had its own uses and during a battle, its hard to determine which spell prove reliable to you because you're trying to stay alive as well...you can't only depend on one spell, anything could go wrong. I guess you need to be quick-witted and mentally prepared for it too,"he answered.

Jordan needs a partner! Vm if reply.

Get into partners? Jordan wasn't feeling too social today as he stayed up late the previous night. However, he did show a lot of interest in this Charms Lesson. Charms was one of his favorite classes, because he got to experiment with the different Charms he learned. Hopefully they would do more of that today. Jordan preferred to work by himself, almost always. However, he also likes when people work with him.

He looked around nervously, hoping to find someone he could partner up with. He saw most of the room find their friends from different Houses. Hopefully a nearby Gryffindor would snag him, or even a Ravenclaw. He also wouldn't mind Hufflepuff. However, he seemed to not get along with some of the Slytherins.

Catnip/ Benny! <3

It was quite easy to see Baxter admired Flitwick. Well, Adi could kind of see why... champion duelist. MAN! He wanted to be one of those too! But anyway... could leave his daydreaming for later.

Adi put himself in the man's place as Baxter posed the question to them. Already, he was coming up with answers to them but he didn't speak his opinion and instead eyed the spells written on the board. Ah, yesh. Some basic spells. Easy to cast once you got the hang out of it but not under the conditions Baxter had listed earlier if one was unfocused.

Ooh, partners! Even though one wasn't necessary, Adi wasted no time in moving over on a mat close to Benny. This gave him an excuse to sit next to his best friend, okay? "HI.'' Benny got a grin as the Puffer set out his book with notes from the previous class. "Partners for now and for life.'' Hehe. Now... onto business! "I think it would be difficult to cast any spell in those situations Baxter listed. Especially if you're not focused.'' He looked at his friend expectantly for an answer. Probably elaborating a little on Adi's answer?

DaniDiNardo 10-19-2015 02:37 AM

He knew the class was on to these spells. He had a good cousin that passed the information along to him for him to do his readings.

Disarming Charm and Shield Charm, both very familiar to the little boy whose hand was now placed on his jaw.

Blaise looked around the room but it didn't take him long to decide he didn't want to work with anyone. The LAST thing he needed was questions about why he didn't have his wand and comments about his unwillingness to try. He was well aware of both, thank you very much and was just as fine scribbling the details to himself on a piece of parchment.

Oh goodie....they were right. It WAS Professor Flitwick. And Benny himself had been correct in the mention of him during the war, specifically the Battle of Hogwarts which Professor Baxter was having them focus on for the course of today's lesson. Could it be for once, he was one of the students that figured out the direction a topic might be going ? Whatever the truth of the matter, the Gryffindor was listening and focusing intently on what was being said about the man as well as watching the spells appear on the board.

Disarming....shield.

Thats what they were focusing on specifically. And he could continue working on his own or with a partner, though Benny didn't have to think much as Adi came up beside him on the nearby mat. "Yep...sounds good," he agreed to his friend's words on the matter. That was the plan for sure. As for the questions, the seventh year had to think back on them for a bit to find his own thoughts. "I agree....though if protecting someone...the determination could help you get past any struggles."

DaniDiNardo 10-19-2015 03:51 AM

Working on his own, Blaise found that he was actually hyper aware of the conversations around him, whether he wanted to be or not. People discussing wand movements, people discussing the former Charms Professor. Talks about what the spells did. He was listening but he was trying not to because it was awful distracting and not helping his mood at all.

Now he remembered why he couldn't figure either wand movement on his own. When he'd done his reading, he never thought to take note of them...because he never planned to use either.

Right...right. The boy stared at the little he'd written, realizing it wasn't much of a discussion this way. Not on the charms anyway. Perhaps he'd have had better luck thinking on the earlier question asked.

If a wand decides it doesn't want to work it doesn't matter how many people you have to protect or how strong your enemy is and it would be unwise to stand around yelling the spells over and over hoping your will and determination will be enough to save the day. There are more practical routes that can be taken.
That was pretty much how he saw it. No way was he gonna stand with his wand at ready when he knew there wasn't a chance on earth that he'd get it to work.

Adi happily made a note of his own answer before looking up at his friend. "Good point. I agree. Especially if you really, really cared about that person,'' he said casually. He knew the feeling to protect all too well. It came easily to him whenever it involved certain persons. Benny, AJ, Marsha, his Puffers... "It's sort of like those instincts that take over a mother when her kid is in danger, isn't it? She'd do anything to protect them.'' Yeah, that was the best comparison he could use.

Buuuut...

Onto the other task at hand!

''So, the Disarming Charm... Expelliarmus and the wand movement's like this.'' The Hufflepuff did the appropriate movement. "Okay! Time to test your Charms skills, Benny. Go on. What's the workings for the Shield Charm?'' In the meanwhile, he would just be here practicing the Disarming charm's incantation and movement.

Paulina was trying her hardest to take in everything that Professor Baxter was saying. The content in itself wasn't confusing, but there were so many questions asked and she had a feeling that they would need to be answered sooner or later. Being a good student, she made sure that everything was recorded in her notes.

Normally Paulina worked with a partner when it was required, but they COULD work alone, and she decided that she would rather do that. Maybe later she'd partner up for the main activity, but for the moment she preferred things this way.

Turning her notebook to the next page, she began by listing the incantation and wand movement for both spells:

Shield Charm

That out of the way, she moved on to answering the questions:

Surroundings play an important part. If the duel is somewhere that you are not familiar with, that would throw things off, or if it was happening in dangerous territory like on the edge of a cliff.

All the factors play an important part and drastically impact the effectiveness of spell casting. I would say that in some situations even spells that the caster knows by heart can be difficult - but that also depends on the difficulty of the spell being cast.

Looking her notes over, Paulina hoped that what she had put down made sense. At least it did to her.

Ava/Raven

See. She was right. Its Fillius Flitwick on that banner.

Professor Baxter telling the class more about Fillius Flitwick and what he accomplished. Candice was nodding her head here and there. For such a little man, Fillius Flitwick was definitely something. And then the Professor asked them two question but she want them to think it over first? They didn't need to answer the questions now? Okaaaayyyy.

They're going to learn Disarming Charm and Shield Charm? Goodie!

And partner. Yes, of course. Her eyes landed on Ava. She know for a fact that for a first year student, Ava was pretty good with her wand. "Hey Ava, want to partner up?" She hoped that the little lioness still partnerless like her.

But then some people guessed that he's Fillius Flitwick, former Charms Professor and also a duel master. Wicked. And they're gonna learn disarming and shielding charm! Cool! Being a dueling club member, Ava really needed to master those two though sometimes she had practiced them at training hall.

But first, she needed a partner.

The young lioness then looked around and there's someone who wanted to partner up with her. Hey, Candice! They're gonna be a great partner like what they'd done in muggle studies before. "Sure!" She beamed. Candice was also in dueling club like her, so practicing these charms with fellow dueling club member like her must've been great.

She's not partnerless anymore. And Thank Merlin, Ava was sitting not to far from her so less effort.

"So, what do you think about the questions? Do you think you're able to cast those spell if you're in Flitwick' shoes?" She asked the first year. "If I happen too be in that situation I think I might puke first then after I get that out of my system I might be able to cast the spells as long as I keep my cool." But that's her. Ava might have different opinion or answer.

Anyway. The spells. "So Expelliarmus is the same as its incantation, and Protego is the shield charm.... I bet used a more complicated shield charm in the Battle of Hogwarts, though, you think? Especially if he was protecting more people than just himself."

Aaww cute he was a note taker. Not a bad quality to have really. Hady gave the younger boy a slight grin. If he felt the need to take down everything that was said it was fine by her.

Alright so David knew what both spells were. Good. Did he know how to cast them? That she wasn't sure of but Hady was pretty sure she'd soon be finding out. "Exactly." She replied to comment on what each spell was. However when he continued on with a question she gave him another smile. Smart boy there. "Most likely yes. I'd say he probably used Protego Maxima to protect them all for as long as he could. He may have even used another charm along with it to strengthen it's hold." That's what she would've done if she had to protect so many people at once.

searching for a partner?

Angel was just staring into space for a few seconds and the next thing she knew was that everyone was partnering up... okay so when did that happen, she had heard the Professor say they were going to be using a spell and working together with a partner to figure out the answer to a question but when did she tell them to partner up? That was what was confusing her. She looked around trying to find someone that didn't already have a partner.

*snags Angel*

Really? Really? Expelliarmus and Protego? That's what they were supposed to go over?

Zeke looked visibly confused as he rose from his spot on the floor. He learned those in first and second year, and considered himself an expert caster in them now... save for non-verbal, but he was getting more consistent with that too... kinda... maybe... and by consistent he meant, he'd done it once or twice.

But if they were expected to discuss things, then he would. Were there any takers? Or could he go and snag his girlfriend for this one? And speaking of... when he looked that way, he saw Angel looking around... and she was beside Maggie... So...

"Hey!" he greeted upon meandering over. "Charms huh? Fascinating stuff... you know 'em?" he asked, confident of the answer.

Ugh..

He hated having to play catch up. Perhaps he'd just have to take one of Blaise's fancy quills so it would do all the work instead of him, because this was very ridiculous.

Done!

And there was Blaise, trying and failing to blend in, but he had come prepared for his cousin this class.

"Here." He saved retrieving Blaise's wand from his bag and shoving it at him. "I figured you might need this for class. You can't get much done without a wand in this class you know."

Angel really thought she would. "But if it was for a stranger then it would be hard especially if your under a lot of pressure as well."

Angel was easy to talk to, so she got a grin from him, and she was family oriented, which he totally understood. TOTALLY. "Yeah, I get that," he agreed, the whole thing "Family, friends, I think I would be focused enough to do it right without trouble." And yes, he was sneaking glances at Maggie. Sue him.

"Kinda wouldn't like my chances against a dark wizard though, and disarming them wouldn't be the first thing to come to mind." It was kill or be killed, right?

And yes, he was sneaking glances at Maggie. Sue him.

Angel suddenly saw Zeke sneaking a glance at Maggie. Someone was in love but she wasn't going to say anything and in fact she was going to pretend that she hadn't seen him looking because it wasn't polite to embarrass people. So for now she had to continue with the question.

"Yeah if it's a very powerful dark wizard, or witch then I might fight it hard to concentrate, it depends on deep down how I felt about the cause I was fight for, though in that situation you might not have time to think about anything so it might be hard to concentrate." Angel thought it might be easier just to hide if they were real dark in their magic.

Uh huh...that was exactly what it was like. A mother hen or wolf or human protecting her young from all dangers out of pure instinct...and love. Benny certainly had a group of people that he would consider under his own protection should the need arise. If anything, last years dangers had shown that clearly even if he hadn't been able to tunnel that protection into actual action against the acromantulas.

Shield charm...he knew that, had even used it during a duel once or twice...he could do this. "Well the basic shield charm is Protego," he answered, wondering of he should go further into the larger variations. "The wand movement is relatively simple," the Gryffindor casting the simple point at his friend, "though its the focus and intent that makes it work. Which often requires a lot of practice since its not the easiest spell. Nor are the four varients of the spell that get progressively harder as they go along."
