| | |  Astronomy Lesson 1 :: Cosmic Collisions - Craters
The crisp September evening air may be just the ticket to helping you stay awake this time of evening on your first day of lessons. Or just make you want to bundle up under the covers back in your dormitory. We won’t tell you how to feel.
Stepping into the Astronomy classroom, you may be a little perplexed to find any desks or chairs in the classroom and instead are greeted with what looks like a giant sandbox with glistening white sand. After another moment or two, you are swept off your feet by some unseen force that causing you to float up into the air - although you will need to do a little bit of air swimming to reach your seat. The initial feeling is similar to that of going down the first big dip in a roller coaster, but certainly not enough to make anyone nauseous enough for a little dinner show-and tell. Looking up, you see that the large semicircle of desks and chairs are all suspended in midair some 15 feet or so above the ground, rocking ever so slightly up and down thanks to the enchantments placed upon them. The blackboard, positioned across from the semicircle of desks, has the following instructions written upon it:

Take out a quill and write your FULL name and year on the piece of parchment provided.
Once you have done so, give it a tap with your wand.
The parchment, enchanted by the professor himself, will turn into a sturdy wood name plaque when you do so. Don’t worry, it won’t go floating away from you but rather stick firmly to your desk.
Did you remember to use the lint roller on the small table outside of the classroom? It was there next to the sign that reads, "Not to be used as a brush for your hair" and has the signature of a former student in the bottom right corner. Also next to the sign is a small box containing an assortment of pips that you are meant to take and wear proudly on your robes for the duration of the lesson
Professor Flamsteed is floating somewhere near the blackboard looking especially pleased with himself this evening. Surely that cannot be a good thing?

There was so much to like about this lesson since Gryffindor had claimed planet one. SUCCESS! And they weren't even done yet. Zeke drifted a short distance, before righting himself and locking onto his next target.
Marble, aim, steady...
He watched his target, and tried to stay with it as best he could. But time was running out, the orbit would soon put his position at a disadvantage.
"Tikalas!" he called out, releasing hold of his marble and watching as it shot through the air, and BAM!
Success.

Had she gotten through to her sister? Maybe... maybe not. However there wasn't anymore singing and she was aiming another marble so that was a good sign. After the lesson she vowed to make sure everything was okay. Well, as okay as it could be all things considered.
Without another thought, AJ grabbed another marble and aligned it just so. But wait, she was kind of floating off. Nope. This simply wouldn't do. AJ was a good aim, sure, but why make something harder on herself when it didn't have to be? There. Her marble was once again situated. "Tikalas."
The marble was gone. The fifth year watched as it successfully smacked into the second planet. YES! She was back on her game, and it felt good.

Planet 2 began to spin out of control next, soaring high and high into the air as the sand morphed itself into the victor's crest.
And by a very VERY hefty margin at that! "Planet 2 goes to Slytherin!" he announced with a moderately enthusiastic wave of his wand. Quote:

Maggie was already holding another green marble up over the tip of her wand when the announcement had been made. Ugh! The red crest was mocking her. So without really thinking about it, Maggie aimed at the Gryffindor house crest. "Tikalas!" And with that the green marble went flying off to what was formerly the first planet. ........................
Pinching the bridge of his nose, the astronomer let out an exasperated sigh. Had that REALLY been necessary? " 5 points from Slytherin, for unsportsmanlike conduct," he declared.
Sweet solstice.
Planet #3...was still too close to tell and was by far the most festive looking of all the planets. Might make for a lovely decoration somewhere...
Perhaps the Great Hall?
But alas. Such boyish daydreams quickly came to an end as the planet began to spin and rise into the air as the other two had done previously. Blue sand overtook the yellow and soon the red over took the green until it was a vicious battle of red versus blue. RED?! BLUE?! RED?! BLUE?!  "And planet 3 goes to Gryffindor!" But only by a VERY narrow margin. Miss Brown had proved herself to be a VERY efficient shot. "CLASS DISMISSED!" He waved his arms about for good measure in case his voice had not carried enough. " Homework will be posted on the noticeboard outside my office sometimes tomorrow morning. Be sure you check there and post it up on your own house ones. Simply swim your way down to the floor. The spell will be removed once your feet touch it. I suggest a bit of inverse flapping myself. Tends to do the trick." OOC: thank you all for coming <3 homework will be posted soon in the Sky News thread, so be on the look out for that  you all rock my socks.
I will leave this thread open for another 12 hours if you wish to properly declone or what have you

One seventh year Gryffindor ready to go as the battle for house dominance was bursting all around him. Benny set up one of his red marbles near the tip of his wand once more before trying to focus on a point to aim for. Planet #2 might be as good a place to work on given they had a presence but just not the lead. "Tikalas!" he cast when he felt himself ready, pulling his want back at the last syllable to set the shot into place. The gold hoop appropriately forming like it was supposed to and making him relieved.
However as he went to release the marble, Angel broken into song. The familiar voice singing melacoly and his reaction caused him to move and let it loose so that it shot aimlessly right past the planet and more towards the floor. Cue sigh, both at what was going on with the girl and his loss of focus and hit.
Sad...floating...lion.

Ava couldn't help but beam happily knowing that her house could claim two of the three planets. YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!! THEY WON, EVERYBODY! She really wanted to blow raspberries to her twin brother who's a Ravenclaw but... Maybe not. The Gryffindor Burton could see the unhappiness from his face. Sorry brother, my house won and see ya later! She still wanted Teddy to teach her more about astronomy though because somehow, Teddy's words might be more understandable than Flamsteed.
She swam way back to the floor and packed her stuffs. "Nice lesson, Admiral. See ya!" Now it's time to head back to the dorm and.... Sleep.

Sophie Brown's face fell, and her antics with Zander halted immediately as she stared morbidly over at the planet that she had battled SO HARD AGAINST... and was now a Gryffindor crest.
Then, in a dramatic display of agony, Sophie Brown groaned, leaned back, and let herself float on her back through the air, unbothered by anyone or anything around her.
She just needed to... have a moment. To float here and die, probably. She was a disappointment to Ravenclaw house. To Kitridge. To Tanner. To the Grey Lady.

Hady froze on the spot or well more like floated on the spot when Planet 2 began to spin madly before turning into the Slytherin House Crest! Yes!!! Her house had conquered the second planet. Now all they needed to do was finish off the last one.
Just as she was about to pull another marble from her pouch the last planet began to spin and the Gryffindor crest emerged from it. She let out a low sigh. Tough luck really for her house but at least they'd gotten the second planet so it was something.
What was this about the snakes losing five points though? Hady blinked a few times not sure what she'd missed to make that happen. With no time to figure out what happened there the class had been dismissed. Slipping her wand back into it's holster she began to kick her feet about to bring her back downwards to the floor all the while giving a salute to the Professor. "Nice lesson today Admiral," she called over her shoulder as her feet touched the floor. Sure enough the charm was gone and Hady gathered up her bag and left the classroom making a mental note to check for the homework later on.

Milo and his housemates had been doing so well in the fight for planet number two but it seemed that Gryffindor barely edged them out. The first year groaned as the Admiral called the end of the lesson and declared the last two planets for Gryffindor and Slytherin. At least it wasn't just Ravenclaw without a planet Milo thought as he looked over at a few Hufflepuff students.
He groaned as he half floated half swam to the floor. When he reached the floor he scooped up his bag and things from his desk. He looked around shiftily and then pocketed his bag of marbles. The Admiral never asked for them back.

| A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.
He was mentally preparing himself to look and take another shot when the Professor announced that planet 2 went to slytherin and shortly after that planet 3 was Gryffindors. They had 2 planets! They had won~! Yoongi was happy. As happy as a scared sixteen year old could be. He wasn't particular happy they had won, he was happy because that meant that class was over and they could get back to the ground.
Hearing how they were supposed to get down, Yoongi trashed his arms wildly, trying to get to land as quick as possible and once his feet landed on the ground he stayed there, the magic wearing off.
He fell on his knees with a cry and started to hug the ground by laying down on his stomach "Oh ground i missed you sooooooo much" he cried. "worst class ever, im never gonna leave your side again" he muttered and then stood up, still pale and grabbed his school bag.
He needed to lie down for five years now... and left the tower.

Hufflepuff had not even claimed a planet. Oh, well! It seemed his Puffs had had fun never the less so Adi didn't really care. What he did care about, however, is the look on Benny's face right now. Yeah, yeah, he had heard that signing (singing at planets now seemed to be the order of the day). Rolling his eyes, he flapped himself to the ground as Flamsteed had suggested before he grabbed his and Benny's belongings.
"Live long and prosper, Admiral! Awesome lesson!'' Flamsteed got the Vulcan hand thingy again. Adi, now with a hold on his bestie's arm with one hand and the other holding their belongings, he led the lion out of the class. Benny was not going to spend his time moping. Nuh uh. Not while this Badger was around. Maybe a trip to the kitchen would help?

Paulina was slightly surprised even though she had figured the activity wouldn't last too long. She had been enjoying herself though, and that was the important thing. Good on Gryffindor for getting two planets. Benny, however, didn't seem to be happy about the victory. She wondered why.
Swimming back to the ground, she was going to ask him what was wrong but Adi had already ushered him outside. Oh well, at least he was with his best friend who would sort everything out. "Thanks for the lesson, Admiral. Live long and prosper!" And with another of those weird 'v' shaped salutes, she had grabbed her stuff and was out the door. | |

And with a flurry of spells the planets were all overtaken, ending with GRyffindor controlling two of the three of them. Yay Lions!! Ben might have felt a bit more happy about it if he felt like he had actually really contributed to the win for his house. Alas he hadn't done all to much and as class was dismissed he was caught between not wanting to move and wanting to get out of there and disappearing somewhere. In the end it was a long swim down to the floor, thankfully no longer floating once his feet fell heavily on the floor of the classroom.
He barely had a moment to gather himself when Adi had grabbed his arm and his belongings. Seemed like the bestie was aware of what he was feeling. "Live long and prosper Admiral," he managed to get out with only a raised hand before he followed the Hufflepuff's lead by the pull of his limb.

Nawwwwwwww poo. Gryffindor won ALL of them it felt like and Davie was NOT A FAN. Well, he was a fan of Char, who was a Gryffindor, and Professor Flamsteed was actually alright, but other than that he was NOT A FAN. Anywaaaaaaaaay, he was keeping his marbles. Davie tucked them into one of his pockets, put his wand between his teeth for safekeeping, and started swimming down toward the floor.
Once his feet landed safely, he saluted Admiral Airey, grabbed his stuff from his desk, and marched off to the next class.

Waiting until the last of the students had swam back down to the floor, the astronomer gave his wand a lazy wave towards the door to close it. He would just...float here for a little more. Dreaming about the things that could have been while doing some casual stargazing.
