The crisp September evening air may be just the ticket to helping you stay awake this time of evening on your first day of lessons. Or just make you want to bundle up under the covers back in your dormitory. We won’t tell you how to feel.
Stepping into the Astronomy classroom, you may be a little perplexed to find any desks or chairs in the classroom and instead are greeted with what looks like a giant sandbox with glistening white sand. After another moment or two, you are swept off your feet by some unseen force that causing you to float up into the air - although you will need to do a little bit of air swimming to reach your seat. The initial feeling is similar to that of going down the first big dip in a roller coaster, but certainly not enough to make anyone nauseous enough for a little dinner show-and tell. Looking up, you see that the large semicircle of desks and chairs are all suspended in midair some 15 feet or so above the ground, rocking ever so slightly up and down thanks to the enchantments placed upon them. The blackboard, positioned across from the semicircle of desks, has the following instructions written upon it:

Take out a quill and write your FULL name and year on the piece of parchment provided.
Once you have done so, give it a tap with your wand.
The parchment, enchanted by the professor himself, will turn into a sturdy wood name plaque when you do so. Don’t worry, it won’t go floating away from you but rather stick firmly to your desk.
Did you remember to use the lint roller on the small table outside of the classroom? It was there next to the sign that reads, "Not to be used as a brush for your hair" and has the signature of a former student in the bottom right corner. Also next to the sign is a small box containing an assortment of pips that you are meant to take and wear proudly on your robes for the duration of the lesson

Professor Flamsteed is floating somewhere near the blackboard looking especially pleased with himself this evening. Surely that cannot be a good thing?

Colt saw the marble going near planet three and it was a near MISS. AGGHHH he was so close! He mumbled and and he was would get it next time. He got more marbles out of his bag and planned on which planet he was gonna hit. He thought planet three was too far away. He might have trouble getting to it in his position. He thought about it and saw Planet two was near him and he could aim better. He nodded and began to get ready. He got his wand out of his robes and he wondered if his wand was defective because it didn't seem to be working for him or possibly due to the fact his aim was bloody horrible. He needed to work on that.
He got his green marble at the ready and said the spell, "Tikalas!" and hoped his marble would hit it. He still thought the spell sounded like a bird call.

She didn't really expect if the Professor would acknowledge the doodle of her. Seriously... "Well... of course you can, Admiral." She beamed and grinned happily as she handed the parchment. See? Sometimes she doodled when in class for good reason and Flamsteed acknowledged that.

This sounded fun. Grabbing a red marble, she tried to shoot it to the Planet one. It's Tikalas right? Right... First try. "Tikalas!" She performed the spell and pulled back her marble when she said las bit and.....

AND IT WAS A HIT! Huzzah! This spell hadn't been too difficult for Davie to get a grasp on, and for that, he was grateful to Astronomy. Maybe this would be the one class in which he would NOT mess up for once???? Maybe?
Learning magic was a lot harder than it looked. Aiming a slingshot at a planet, though, now that was fun. "Tikalaaaaaas," Davie said to his wand, again tugging back the marble on the last syllable as he aimed for planet number three. When he thought he had a good amount of tension on the rubber band part, he let it fly, as he himself flew forward in the air too. Woooooooohoo!

Alriiiiiiight. So he got one. FINALLY. Not that it had taken all that long, but he was a seventh year and missing the first one was highly discouraging even though it wasn't entirely his fault JUST SAYIN'. So the Gryffindor took ANOTHER marble out of his bag and looked around the room. Which planet to aim at.
Perhaps planet 4? ... Wait. There wasn't a planet 4, was there? Nope. Cool. So then he'd go with.. THAT ONE. Yeah. It looked like a worthy target. And then there was some kid trying to encourage Slytherin power and Zander had to try to keep from laughing. Sorry, kid. Gryffindor has got this in the bag. Like the marble bag. Get it? Ha.
ANYWAYS.
"Tikalas!" he watched the gold hoop appear before READY... AIM... FIYAAAAAAAHHHH!!!! Boom. Collision. Mad respect. Yo. Zander Adair was on his A game tonight, ladies and gents. Just kidding. He missed the first one, remember?

The superhero anger hadn't subsided yet, which was pretty good... Dot was self-aware enough to know that once the adrenaline cleared out, she was probably going to be a weepy mess for a minute. Did that mean she was a weak person, as well as being a stupid one? Astronomy was NOT GOOD on her self-esteem today.
But she might as well funnel all that intense emotion into carving deep craters all over the face of the planets. So planet number two was the one she currently wanted to destroy, even though there wasn't a lot of rhyme or reason to who was shooting at what at this point. Planet number two was as good a mortal foe as any. Mortal... planetary foe?
From her pouch, Dot pulled another green marble, and she held it over the tip of her wand. "Talakas!" she whipped the wand back and again directed it toward that planet. Again, she had dead-on aim, although she winged it more than hit it right on. In the real world, that meteoroid would have burned up on re-entry and never hit the ground. Still... yay?

She eyed the Planet 3, and maybe now she could successfully create a crater there. Hmmm.... Ava grabbed another red marble and tried creating a crater once again. "Tikalas!" She said the incantation loudly and pulled her marble back once she said the las bit. And..... Let's see if she succeed this time.

He was actually making loads of progress. Actually on a roll here. Zander Adair for president people. Actually, that'd be the worst idea ever so nevermind. Zander Adair for not president people. Okay, now that that was cleared up. Time to get a move on and take out another one of them marbles. HAZZUHHH! The first planet didn't look like it had enough red in it yet, so Zander was gonna show it some love.
Good ol' lion crater right there. It was about to happen. So he again took out another red marble, "Tikalas!" pulling back and GOLD ORB THING and READY SET GO!
And BOOM. The crowd goes wild. Actually, just Zander goes wild. 'Cause hitting the target could never get old. And Zander Adair was most definitely doing some sort of strange happy dance in the floating distance. Ahem.
No one saw that.

Okay, this time around, he would take better and proper aim. "Tikalas!" The same steps to successfully launch the marble were repeated after the seventh year settled himself into a comfortable hovering spot and careful aim was taken.

Uuhhh.... "Long," he mused, because he was simply copying the sound the Professor had made, so he couldn't really say with any certainty, "like this... tika-las," he repeated for her benefit, the las part was obvious where she ought to pull back before releasing.
Never the less, she gave it a go, and did better than the first time. "There you go... almost got it," he encouraged. At least her marble DID go and stuff, cause yeah.
But then... she was closer, and hugging him.

Zeke remained floating where he was, unsure of WHAT to do. He didn't much fancy a second detention, but then, he hadn't done anything wrong. Awkwardly, he returned the hug with a couple of pats on the back.
"Try it again," he encouraged, if only so the girl would remove her arms from around him. That way, he could do the same - y'know, the whole helping Gryffindor achieve victory thing.

Ava couldn't help but jump when she did create the crater successfully. It was such a pretty red small crater. Yeah, it's not that big but at least she did it, okay? The first-year Gryffindor girl was really on fire. She grabbed another red marble and now.... time to aim them at planet 2. Ready? Set? and.... GO! "Tikalas!" She pulled back the marble and saw the golden orb was form. Another small red crater was formed on planet 2. Maybe she needed to shoot them a little bit further so she could create a bigger crater.

Brian was very into the note-taking process and still very ashamed of his outburst, which pretty much just meant that he would simply not answer any more questions. Nope. Nuh uh. So he was writing a LOT because his classmates had a lot of wonderful answers and he was truly amazed at how much they knew and everything was oh so important. And now his hand hurt. Ouch. Shaking it out, he used his spare hand to put his stuff away. All pens and books now safely in his bag, he took a look at the little bag with bright yellow marbles in it.
Now, time to test out the spell. Because he wasn't going to get THAT wrong. He was bad enough without mispronouncing the spell. "Tickle-us?" No, that didn't sound like how it did when Admiral Flamsteed said it. "Tickle-as?" Closer, but not quite. "Tick-al-us?" ALMOST THERE. "Tickalas." YESSS, that was the one! BOOM. Except, no boom yet because Brian hadn't shot any marbles at anything. Just in case something exploded. He didn't need an explosion here, thank you.
So all he had to do was hold the marble over the tip of his wand, pull back like those elastic marble things that his dad once played with on the 'las' part and release it in the direction of a planet? It seemed pretty straightforward. Yeah, he could handle this.
Well she had hit that one planet but now it was time to hit it again and...wait which one was it again? They kept moving around and she was getting confused and the other Slytherins were NOT cooperating. Like couldn't Dot do something about that??? They should decide on one planet and then take that one over and then move on to the second one etc. etc. etc. etc.
Gosh someone should have made Maggie Prefect. She was awesome at this.
Getting ready to aim at the first planet again, she held up her marble over her wand. "Tika-" She pulled back the marble. Now where was that stupid planet thing again? Maggie looked around, turning on the spot and suddenly found herself staring at Zeke instead. Awks.
Oh but look at that! The planet! It was so much more interesting! Mhm! "-las!" The planet she'd been aiming for was right below him. So she let go of the green marble. Only she'd somehow not pulled it back far enough or SOMETHING so it didn't even reach its target. Eh. Hopefully no one had seen.

In order to create a bigger crater, Admiral Flamsteed said that it needed a bigger velocity. That's why Ava took a few steps back to make a BIGGER crater. Let's see... Planet 2 seemed like a good target to create the big crater. But the Gryffindor firstie didn't realize that she took a little bit too far distance that could cause the bad aim and stuffs. She grabbed a red marble and was ready to shoot it to the planet 2. One... two... "Tikalas!" She pulled back the marble and..... Apparently she aimed it to the wrong target. Instead of hitting one of the planets, it hit Admiral Flamsteed's head. Oops.......

Removing himself from the young Gryffindor (Ellery), Zeke gave her a nod and attempted to distance himself from her. Whether it was looks from Maggie, or from Admiral Flamsteed, he didn't much care to receive them.
Instead, he removed a marble from his pocket - now that he could reach it, and held it in position. He spun on the spot until he was able to track the movements of one of the planets. Planet number 3.
With great care and deliberation, Zeke aimed, "Tika," pulled back, "las," and FIRED!
BOOOOM!SMACK!
Planet just got owned. Hopefully.

Be grateful that he was NOT looking this time, Lieutenant Commander Wojack-Gusey, because he missed seeing the hug entirely and therefore had no further squirmy reactions to...well...everything.
Although he did see the Slytherin prefect's especially impactful shot. That was ONE impressive crater!
He DID however see what was going on over there with Lieutenant Zeke and Ensign Borzekowski-Thomas. "Not getting carried away there again, are we Lieutenant Zeke?" he faked coughed. You know. All that stray dust up here in the air created by all this...er...impact debris.

Thank Merlin these marbles had been charmed NOT to cause any harm to people, but that didn't stop them from leaving their mark. Namely...colorful little explosions.
Like the one he now wore ALL OVER HIS FACE.
OH SWEET SOLSTICE WAS HIS ADMIRAL SUIT ALRIGHT?!
Panic stricken once again, the man reached for his wand and waved it at his face to banish the mess and quickly did an inspection of his precious. It all seemed in order...BUT THAT WAS TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT! THAT WAS WHY HE HAD FLOATED OFF TO THE SIDE!
"WHOSE WAS THAT?" he barked, looking wildly around the class. Could any one even hear him over all the rest of the commotion?
He had been told he had an unusually large forehead, but it was not THAT large to be mistaken for one of these planets!
Speaking of planets, planet #1 was looking mostly red and green right now. Rather difficult to tell which color was dominating there. Planet #2 the same, but in favor of green. Planet #3, on the other hand, looked mostly red, but there was a fair amount of yellow and green as well.
OOC: still plenty of time to jump in and participate I will post another update sometime my tomorrow morning.

He had HOPED, to get away with not being seen. Between everyone hovering and floating around, the planets, the marbles, the chaos... WHY had he been seen?
"No Sir, Admiral, Sir...." yeah... awkward. Just awkward. Head down he decided to take a moment to drift AWAY from the Astronomer, and away from clingy girls and ones that stared. He wasn't looking for drama, but he couldn't help it is he was a chick magnet, really. Was Flamsteed jealous of his success? Was that it? He wasn't even sure he wanted to know.
Reloading his wand!slingshot, Zeke steadied his marble and took aim of another planet - this one seemed a good target, especially if nothing got in his way.
"Tika," he started, but as he pulled back, someone got in the way of his shot, and he wasn't about to waste it ON them. Ugh. He waited for them to pass, adjusting his position awkwardly by flailing around, only, by the time his sight was clear, he had to start the spell over. The connection had been lost.
"Tikalas!" he cast, releasing his marble as he aimed in anticipation of the planet orbiting into his shot.

Moving on... Now Ava carefully aimed to the Planet 1. She took a couple of distances but not too far so it would hit someone's head anymore. Grabbing her red-colored marble, the brunette started shooting it. "Tikalas!" She pulled back the marble and....

With her first shot being a hit Hady was rather confident that she could do this again. As many times as needed to help her house win.
Reaching into her pocket she removed one green marble rolling it between her fingers for luck. Anyone around her somewhat went unnoticed for now as she looked around her for the closet planet. One was coming around near her and her hazel eyes took sight of it watching it for a few moments as she moved her legs about to keep herself from moving from where she was. Moving now wasn't a good idea.
With the planet in sight Hady held the green marble over the tip of her wand while holding it up near her face. Closing one eye as she lined the marble up with where it needed to go. "Tickalas," she recited clearly pulling the marble back on the 'las' part once again. There was the gold band again, and she released her hold on the marble watching it fly.
Fly.
And it hit right where it needed to. Planet number one.

A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.
Ignoring everything that was happening around him , mainly because he wasn't SEEING what was going on around him, Yoongi grabbed another red marble and floated it in the air in front of him. If he every turned blind he'd have no problem going around apparently. And then another thing popped in to his head. What if a planet was completely a house color, preferable red of course. Did that mean that class would be over? He thought so. So what if he shot multiple marbles at the same time? Then he would get DOWN TO EARTH and Gryffindor would win. Win win situation!
But as he performed the "Tikalas" spell on the marbles, he realized he could only wrap the golden band of light around one marble at the time. Okay then, time to close his eyes again and just......shoot....
And he did, after a quick glance of seeing one of the planets having mostly red, he closed his eyes, aimed his wand at the direction dared to peek again. The marble hit the planet and Yoongi clapped his hands in joy, forgetting his fear of HEIGHTS for a moment. That was until his clapping caused him to tumble sideways and he saw the ground. Two shots. Two hits. So far so good.
This wasn't hard at all and it was honestly rather fun. Only difficult part of this was the floating about and not getting off course. As it was the brunette flailed her arms around a little as she tried to move around the perimeter of the room. Passing a few people she didn't really react to anything other then moving out of the way of marbles.
As she moved about she saw the looks given between Zeke and Maggie as well as heard what the Professor said to them. What exactly had that meant? Wrinkling her brow a little she shrugged it off since it didn't concern her and pulled out another green marble from her pocket. Rolling it around her hand she lifted the marble to the tip of her wand.
Taking up the position from earlier with her wand raised up, one eye closed she lined up the marble with Planet one this time. It was in her line of sight and she was ready. "Tikalas," she cast pulling back on her marble and making the gold band appear as she spoke the 'las' part and let go.
There went her green marble! Sailing, sailing and HIT! Whoa, wait?!
Just as it made impact leaving behind the tell-tale green crater in it's wake Hady realized it wasn't Planet one that she'd hit but Planet three. It appeared that the hit planet changed course and had moved itself in front of her intended target. Well alright then. A hit was a hit either way.

A part of him just wanted to take a fist full of marbles and fling them EVERYWHERE to see what hit, but he was sure there was a purpose for using the spell in particular. He wasn't one to usually opt out of using magic, but he felt like changing things up a little.
Sigh.
Making his way a little further down, shadowing one of the planets as he moved, Zeke narrowly dodged a marble from smacking him in the face. He didn't need an impact to the fact, he really didn't, he already felt as if he had two in just one night.
Taking a red marble to his wand tip, Zeke held it up toward one of the passing planets, and followed its movement before following through with the spell. "Tikalas!" he recited, voice strong, intent clear and releasing the marble he had steadily pulled back.
ZOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOP!BAM!
That was a hit. Not the best hit he'd seen, but a hit nonetheless.
"Thanks Admiral." Angel gave a weak smile, she then looked at the planet and the colours they were going. This wasn't so bad at least they were only colouring in the planets and not actually creating holes in them by the looks of it.
Angel decided that she would try and give it a go... trying to get the destruction it was causing out of her mind, she tried to focus on the spell she had to use. "Tikalas." Angel tried to concentrate hard on the spell. ""Tikalas." Angel thought she had it down now so now it was time to use it.
Angel took a red marble out of her bag and she aimed it at planet 1. Angel pointed her wand at the marble. "Tikalas." Angel saw the gold band appear and she let go of the marble.
Angel saw the marble heading straight towards planet one, she then saw it explode as it hit and there was red there, Angel sighed again as she saw the marble explode into a million pieces just like her heart had on the train.

He got points. Owen's eyes grew at that. His first ever earned house points! He beamed and beamed and beamed. He was more excited for the progression of this class more than ever now.
When the Admiral said to put away their parchments and whatnot, the young bagder promptly obliged. He got his wand out and removed himself from his desk and puuuuuushed it down to the ground. Whoo. Free space. And a drawstring bag full of yellow marbles. THEY WERE PLAYING! Eeep! He was SO excited.
But first, he had to get some things down...the marbles were their space rocks. The sand spheres were planets. They had to "fire off" those space rocks towards the planets and try to create craters. Okaaaaaaaaaaaay. Owen understood that part. But there was a spell. Tikalas. He repeated it to himself. "Tikalas...tikalas...tikalas." He got it down...probably.
And what other best way to prove that than to apply it in action.
Here we go!
Marble in hand, Owen floaaaaaaaaaaaaated towards a planet. There wasn't too much chaos right here...at least not yet so the Hufflepuff got hold of a free, easy target. Setting the marble on the tip of his wand, Owen mumbled, "Tikalas!" The marble fired off, hit the planet's surface, and shattered, leaving a crater behind.
Good thing Maggie was no Legilimens or otherwise she would have rolled her eyes BIG time at Zeke's thoughts. Did he honestly think she'd try and throw a marble at him? Especially since they wouldn't even hurt?? Like. That was just a waste of marbles. Plus why would she want to throw things at him?
As it were though, the eye rolling DID come but only when Flamsteed called out the Gryffindor. Like. Really?? That was a first year right there. What was wrong with the professor? Also no Maggie hadn't been watching or anything nope.
Anyyyyyyywaaaaaayyyy....
She was back to finding the first planet. Kicking the air a little she tried to move towards it while taking out another green marble and holding it over her wand. "Tikalas!" She took aim, pulled the marble back and let go. Ding! Her awesomeness had struck again.
