Nothing would have raised your suspicions for an unusual Arithmancy lesson from the noticeboard, but the closer you get to the classroom, the stranger it ...smells? Yes, it definitely smells, well, soothing. And when you round the corner and spot the classroom, it's immediately obvious why.
The classroom is gone.
In its place, elaborate transfigurations have taken place to turn the room into a temple courtyard. Incense burns from the table, and soft light pours in from the windows. Even the smell of fresh mountain air is present. Taken together, a soothing, calm atmosphere prevails.
Professor Tanner is prepared to greet you from the mat she sits on. You can find your own cushion on a pile inside the door.
OOC: Class will begin this evening EST. Until then, try not to be too loud and rowdy - Tiara won't like you spoiling the ambiance!

He had hoped this was something they could do by themselves, but apparently not.
Spotting the first year Lion (Blaise!), Zeke held a hand up in his direction, "Me." Mmmhhmm. He needed a partner too. So without waiting for a response he closed that gap between them, fist-bumping the small dude in the shoulder. Hi.
"What's your question?" he asked without thinking it might be 'rude'. He was just curious is all.
There was just always something about working with people from the same house. He didn't know but it was a whole lot more comfortable and that probably had a lot to do with the fact he would have seen the people over a gazillion times in the Common Room since September.
Zeke was a guy he'd seen around lots, even if he'd never really had a proper conversation with him. He knew how to do spells too so on the off chance this class veered in that disastrous direction he was covered.
Despite all that, there was still some hesitation when question about what he'd be asking the almighty, all-knowing sticks got brought up. It was...kinda like when you made a wish on a birthday cake. That whole not saying it or it might not come true. Though perhaps in this case it was more like nightmares where if you said them they were more likely to happen. Still, a partner was a partner and if the older lion to decide a more open partner would have been better then Blaise would have PROBLEMS.
"I wanna know if I'm gonna suck at magic forever." Said somewhat over a whisper but it certainly wasn't a conversation for just ANY ears and so he wouldn't say it loudly....'cause....what if the Universe was listening.....?
"What's yours?"

After a few more breaths the fourth year opened her eyes and looked around the room silently. Everyone else seemed to be focusing on relaxing as well. Professor Tanner was once more speaking to them quietly and Hady glanced at the black tubes floated towards them. She still wasn't sure she entirely understood what they were doing but she figured it would make sense in a few more minutes.
What she needed now was a partner. So when she heard Paulina ask if anyone wanted to work with her Hady took that chance. They had worked together before and she liked the older girl. Walking towards the seventh year she gave her a light smile. "I will," she confirmed quietly. That was okay with her, right?
When Hady walked up to her, Paulina couldn't help but smile. It was always nicer to work with someone you know, and she felt more comfortable this way. It was like how Benny and Adi always partnered up in classes, but she knew that they were dating. If she had a boyfriend she would probably choose to work with him in every activity, but for now she was single and loving it.
Who needed a boyfriend when she had friends, family, and plants to keep her company and make her happy?
"Sure thing! Let's get started!" This activity would be easy.
Janelle was as relaxed as she was going to get for this task. She had finally decided on a question to ask and this one was about her. The problem was, she didn't know if she could share it with her partner. It was kind of something she wanted to keep to herself. Janelle wished that she could be partners with Zeke 'cause he already knew her issues. Unfortunately, he was taken.
Looking around the room, Janelle spotted someone she thought might be in need of a partner. It was someone she wouldn't mind working with. Walking over to Angel, she made her pitch."Would you like to be partners?". Janelle had worked with the older girl before and hoped that she'd agree to give it one more go.
Angel smiled at Janelle as she spoke. "Of course, I'd love to be your partner. I think we make an epic team." Well they had when they had done the potions homework, though in the end she had nearly hurt her friend by transforming back just as she had jumped to try and reach her friends shoulder. She was going to enjoy this lesson she just knew it and her question was firmly lodge in her head.
What they couldn't do this alone? Well that was dumb. Dante did not really care about giving his question to other people. He just would rather do it alone given the option. But alas no option this time.
Not like he was going to go out of his way to find a partner. Way to much effort.
He was just going to sit and try and stay comfortable.
If he could get out of this activity by just being forgotten that would be a dream come true.

Davie was still sitting there with a silly smile on his face... when all of sudden they were moving on? Oh Merlin! He needed a partner! Where are all his fellow firsties?! He saw Blaise and started scooting his cushion toward him, but he was too slow. The Gryffindor had been claimed.
Now who to partner up with? There was this intimidating, tall-looking Slytherin he'd seen in classes and stuff... maybe he'd be... available? "H-hi, Dante, right?" Davie went ahead and scooted his cushion up to the older boy so no one would take him. He pushed his glasses up his nose and smiled at the guy.
"I'm David, David Truebridge. I'm good at math. Let's be partners, k?" K good. No room for argument there.

Norah had begun fidgeting on her cushion by the time Professor Tanner gave the next set of instructions. There was only so long she could sit and think about exams, y'know? That was probably the reason why she was having so much trouble with them in the first place.
She cast her eyes around the room in search of somebody to partner up with. It didn't reeeally matter who it was, considering that her questions about OWL's probably weren't the biggest secret in the whole entire world. Only now did she think of all the other things she could've wondered about that would have been far more interesting. Whoops. Maybe next time. After a few moments of looking she gave up on staying silent and called out, "Anybody need a partner?" She could inspect the box of sticks that'd been levitated to her in the mean time, uh huh. Totally productive.

Nobody yet and this was good. Maybe he would actually get out of this. But knowing his luck. Tanner would probably partner with him out of pity or something. So maybe he did need a partner after all. Still way too much effort to go looking for one.
Wait, a first year was talking to him now and he almost laughed. He could not say no to that. Good at math.
Oh that was a good one
"Yeah, Dante. Truebridge, interesting last name right there. But Hi David and sure why not. Let's be partners"
Look at that he had a partner for his pressing question of, Is Tanner going to forget to give them homework?

Tia had been deliberating over her question that she hadn't realized Tanner had told them to partner up to have someone else do their reading until it seemed as if everyone already had partners. It wasn't that hard to do self-readings though, was it? Or was that not so accurate?
Casting her eyes around the room, that was when she heard the young Hufflepuff prefect asking for a partner. Smiling over at Norah, Tia nodded, "Hey Norah! Yes, I do!" And you know, maybe partnering up with a prefect might help with the being recognized at Hogwarts for something even if it was just being a prefect's sidekick
She plopped down in the seat next to her. "So did you want to share your question?" Or was it like top secret?

Hmm, an insightful question! "The only limit is your creativity, Mister Atreyu. Excellent question!"

"Okay, if you have not yet found a partner, you may join for a group of three if necessary." She gave them a few more moments to get settled in. "Now the process. The person whose reading is being done currently is called the querent. The querent's partner will start by moving the cim bucket around the incense three times," she began, indicating the several spots where incense was burning on the tables around the outside of the courtyard. "Then your partner will thoroughly mix the Kau Cim sticks by hand and bring the cim bucket back to you."
"Now the querent will kneel, cim bucket in hand, and focus intently on their question. If they wish, they may whisper their question aloud so their partner may hear." It could be as personally revealing as they desired. "Remember to be decisive with your question, no hesitation or waffling. When you are ready, hold the cim bucket at a slightly downward angle and shake it."
She cleared her throat and continued. "Continue shaking until at least one stick falls out. If more than one falls, place them all back, have your partner stir, and try shaking again." There was more, but that was certainly enough for now. "So please complete this process for both partners. Good luck."
OOC: You'll have probably 2 days to work on this. Feel free to be as detailed as you'd like. Remember, the numbers 1-78 are on these sticks. You can pick any number you want to fit your charrie's question. Interpretations are here, but remember your charries don't know them yet. Have fun! Tiara's around, but she'll mostly stay out of the way.

As for partners, while he was open for offers, he was more than comfortable with working with Adi beside him. For most of what he was curious about and willing to ask a question about pertained to both of them so it was better to share it with his boyfriend than work with another friend now and let them find out something personal before he shared or didn't share it with Adi.

Benny had asked a smart question. See, this was why the Lion was stronger of the two of them when it came to academics. "Nice catch with that question,'' he said. At least now everyone knew for sure that there was no specific type of questions to be asked.
"You can be the querent,'' the Hufflepuff said happily. He was already moving himself towards a stash of incense. Gosh, it felt like being home so familiar were the smells to him. Adi moved the cim bucket around the things three times as was instructed after which the sticks were mixed properly then brought back to Benny.
"Here you go!'' The cim bucket was held out and Adi waited for his bestie to get started on the other half of the activity.

Working with someone that was in a good mood was always a nice thing, it made the task move a lot more smoothly. "Great! Want to have your question answered first?" she looked up at the older girl. If she wanted to tell her what the question was that was cool if not that was fine too.
As the instructions were given Hady blinked a few times. Um well alright then. Some weird set of instructions this was. Hopefully she'd get it right. "You can be the querent first," the snakette said simply. This would give her a few more moments longer to come up with a question she wanted the answer to. With the cim bucket in hand she made way for the incense.
One. Two. Three times the cim bucket was moved around the incense. After which Hady gave the sticks inside the bucket a proper mixing around before walking back over to where she had left Paulina standing. "Here you are," she smiled a little holding the cim bucket out to her.

Oh goody...then his question would work.
And with Adi already his partner, Benny needn't worry about joining another duo. He nearly followed the other seventh year over to the nearest incense, instead standing away from it but watching. Benny doing his best to focus on the question so it was solid when he went to ask it. It had to be decisive as Tanner told them. The Gryffindor accepted the bucket when Adi was done, slowly kneeling down to do his part. Focus...focus...focus.
"How happy will our future together be?"
The question was quiet so only Adi could hear, clear and decisive before Benny proceeded to move the cim bucket to an angle over the floor and shaking the sticks inside. He was cautious in his movements, and eventually one moved to slip out.

He wanted to answer it instantly but that wouldn't be right, would it? But they didn't need to have the cim stick thingy to give them any kind of sign. Adi wasn't going to give Benny any reason to be unhappy.
He watched his boyfriend shake the bucket to get a stick out. So this meant it was now his turn for the reading to be done for! "I like your question,'' the Puff told Benny. "But I bet you already know the answer to it.''Just as how much as he knew the answer.
Right! So now continuing on! "Your turn to go circle the sticks around the incense.''

She gave a small shrug and stopped to listen to Professor Tanner's next instructions before answering the Ravenclaw's question. The question she'd planned on asking definitely wasn't a big secret, but maybe a little embarrassing. Her silly OWL questions were probably old news for Tia, 'specially because she was a Ravenclaw and therefore automatically a supergenius. Or something like that, anyways. "I guess my question is, will I get an O's?" She had a little bit of faith that she'd pass at least SOMETHING, but who knew if she'd ever be good enough for an O. Or an E. Or anything. They were approaching MUCH too fast, which was really quite rude.
"Should I be the first que..quere..quere-thing? 'Cause I've already told you my question?" Plus the whole cim circle thing didn't make a whole lot of sense. Norah smiled at Tia again, hoping it'd make up for how useless she was clearly being. Arithmancy was hard, okay? Apparently being good in hard classes wasn't part of her training as a Prefect.

Picking up the stick, Paulina looked to see what number she had gotten. "Okay, 14." Now what did that mean...? "If you work hard you will receive great rewards." Now that was what she called a good fortune. All she had to do was study and practice - which she was already doing - and she would achieve good results on her exams.
Placing the stick back in the cim bucket Paulina got to her feet and made her way over to the incense. One, two, three ways around it before she gave the sticks a thorough mixing and returned to Hady. "Okay, your turn." She offered the cim bucket to her partner.

Angel shook the bag with the sticks in, because from what the Professor was saying that is what she was supposed to do right, so her friend could just pick one, though she was shocked to find out that if more than one came out then they would have to go again, maybe the Arithmancy people where telling them there was more than one answer to the question that they were asking.
"Here you go." Angel wanted to know what the question her younger friend was asking was but she didn't want to seem rude and so she just decided to hold out the sachet with the sticks in, ready for her friend to take one.

DID the boy suck at magic? Should he have partnered with someone else? Eh. They didn't NEED magic for this, the numbers would do the talking. Of course, he'd have said something about the 'sucking at magic' thing, but Professor Tanner interjected, and with such wise words too. "It's true man, you'll find your feet." Everyone did... unless they were a squib, in which case, unlucky?
But WHAT was his question. Well, "I want to know if I'll get five O's on my OWLs next year..." mmmhmm... "or maybe not. Suppose I could just ask if I will be a Curse Breaker when I leave school." That was a good a question as any too, still, options. Which to pick though. Did he WANT to know the answer to either? Maybe. Maybe not.
"We'll do your reading first, you've got a question..." and this way the boy would know if he was a squib or not. Just, rip off the bandaid so to speak. "I'll be right back." Cause... Cim bucket thing needed incensing and things.
Walking the short distance to the table where the incense was burning, Zeke held the Cim bucket and moved it around the incense three times as directed. It was easy enough, though he still wasn't sure how he felt about INCENSE in general. Smelly stuff was difficult to appreciate when it made his nose twitch. Still, he was thankful it wasn't lavender.
Mixing up the sticks by hand, Zeke then returned to Blaise, "Heeerrreeeeeeee you go!" he beamed, handing over the tube contraption. Now he could watch. Watch watch watch... and decide on his own question.

Interesting last name? "Yeah, my mother used to work here," Davie replied lightly, looking around the room as casually as possible. He was just glad he had a partner now, alright? No need to go into depths about his ever-present mum. So they had a querent, or the person with the query, and a partner... the partner passed the bucket around and then handed it back to them... did some mixing, and then the shaking happened... yeah, they could do that. No problemo.
Davie picked up the cim bucket and offered it to Dante. "Do you want to do your reading first?"

Norah was always so enthusiastic and positive, that it made Tia feel all warm and fuzzy. Plus, the girl was a Prefect, so she had to have some idea when it came to this stuff - or at least be able to figure it out. Not that Tia didn't know what she was doing; because she totally did, but it helped when the partner had some idea what was going on too.
Heh, Norah's question actually made Tia smile because she was pretty sure she would have asked the same thing one year ago. And though she hadn't done as well as she hoped, she was content with her scores.
"Might as well. So uh, I think you're supposed to kneel down and keep thinking that question." Taking control of the cim bucket, Tia held it at a downward angle towards Norah and gently agitated it, in hope to get just one stick to slip out onto the floor.

Benny picked up the stick that had dropped from the set. "I thought it was an interesting one," he mused with a shrug at Adi's comment. "Perhaps I do." But then he wasn't that solid a follower of the art of divination anyway. Given it was just one stick that had dropped, he was all good and didn't have to repeat the process all over again. "Number 29...." he read off the stick before returning it with its breathren into the cim bucket. The Gryffindor wrote it down in amongst his notes to refer back to seeing as they weren't quite doing actual interpretations yet.
Then getting up off his knees, he went to where the incense burned, the cim bucket grasped carefully in his hands. One...two....three...hearty hand mixing, and then ge could return to Adi once he was done. "Your turn," he mused rhetorically as he handed the bucket of sticks over to his friend. The question was already known, so now they just had to see.

SPOILER!!: Paulina
Picking up the stick, Paulina looked to see what number she had gotten. "Okay, 14." Now what did that mean...? "If you work hard you will receive great rewards." Now that was what she called a good fortune. All she had to do was study and practice - which she was already doing - and she would achieve good results on her exams.
Placing the stick back in the cim bucket Paulina got to her feet and made her way over to the incense. One, two, three ways around it before she gave the sticks a thorough mixing and returned to Hady. "Okay, your turn." She offered the cim bucket to her partner.
Hady remained quiet while Paulina did her thing. When the older girl was finished she spoke up. "See you'll do well all you have to do is continued working hard." Hard work always paid off in the end. She gave her a slight smile watching as Paulina went and preformed the same actions she had earlier with the cim bucket.
When the cim bucket was handed to her she took it carefully in her hands as she focused on just one question. Kneeling down onto the floor Hady kept her train of thought centered on just that one thing. When there was nothing else but that in her mind she finally whispered her question, "Will I someday become a Magical Creatures Healer?" It's the only thing she ever wanted to be when she left Hogwarts. Slowly tipping the cim bucket a little bit she began to shake it gently. She continued to shake it around until eventually just one of the sticks inside fell out onto the floor. Picking the stick up she read the number that was written on it. "56." Now what did that mean?

The little boy hadn't expected the Professor to hear his question but she had and her response caused his face to become tinged with colour. He gave a small nod, indicating he'd heard what she said but whether he was convinced was another story entirely. The only reason he was sure he wasn't a squib was because his wand worked when she had a mind to. Mind you, she HARDLY had a mind to but on the odd occasion she did nice things.
Still reeling from his insecurities being heard by the Professor (and really, if she heard then WHO ELSE HAD), Blaise could only nod at Zeke's suggestion. Not like he could decline, the boy was already circling the cim bucket around the incense and making his way back.
With a heavy sigh, the young Gryffindor took the bucket and got on his knees then tilted the bucket slightly. Not wanting to have to start all over, he was very careful with his shaking of the bucket while the question ricocheted off the walls of his mind.
Shake. Shake. Shake.
Huh. 20. "What does this mean?" He asked, offering Zeke the stick to hold while he took one of his cim buckets and headed for the incense. Three circles later, he was back to take his stick and offer the bucket. "Is 20 good or bad?" Not that it mattered. He didn't want a future in stupid magic anyway.
