Default Arithmancy Lesson 1

It was time for another Arithmancy class! Tiara was excited for this one, though that wasn't really anything new. It was normal for her to look forward to lessons. But she had a special interest in this topic for some reason, so hopefully the students liked it as well.

The classroom is warm and cozy against the chill that has hung in the air the past week. Contrary to the normal setup of desks in neat rows, today there is a small clearing in the center of the room. On the floor in the open space is a taped-off square, further divided into nine smaller squares. Each section has a number, one through nine, but other than that there is no indication of today's topic.

Professor Tanner stands behind the podium, prepared to greet you as you walk in.

OOC: The lesson will officially begin in around 8 hours. The lesson has officially started. Assume this is not the first lesson of the term, so Tiara will know your character by now.

Tiara was pleased at how efficiently her students had been able to arrange themselves and get started. Sometimes that was difficult earlier on in the year. But really, she was quite pleased at the sound of all the side conversations happening while the students played. She could tell that the seeds of new acquaintances and friendships were being formed!

"Anyone want to be my partner?" Angel asked the room at large, she then looked at the Professor and waited to find out what game it was she was playing.

He confirmed her understanding by nodding at her explanation, this would be great. "That's it, so... which do you want to be? The nought? Or the cross?" he had no preference, it was all the same to him. Quickly scratching up a grid on the page, he waited for her to answer.

Really? Because she had been so sure that everyone would have heard of this game before... Tiara made her way over to the girl to show her how it was done, but before she reached her destination, Zeke Rogers stepped in. "Oh yes, noughts and crosses. Sorry, Angel." She forgot she was in the minority on its name.

He blinked, staring at the parchment and then up at the boy who had asked to join him. Daxton recognised him of course. Blaise Bellaire, with whom he had conspired in Defence Against the Dark Arts to turn out the lights and throw the broom closet full of people into darkness. The Gryffindor boy got a moment of shrewd consideration, before Daxton put pen to parchment again and drew in his next move, a means of silent consent.

Tiara had her eye on this young man, wondering how he would handle the request to pair up. As she suspected, he simply didn't do it. But then the Bellaire boy stepped in and, to her surprise, was accepted. Good. Perhaps Daxton was making some friends after all. She nodded her approval.

He moved on to set up another grid. "I reckon we still have some time left to play. You go first now and you can have Xs if you like.'' Wasn't he the ever considerate bestie? Haha.

She may be older, but her hearing was still sharp! And therefore it shocked her to hear the closest thing to negativity she had ever heard coming out of Aditya Rehman's mouth. "I am sorry you feel that way, Mister Rehman," she muttered, also under her breath. She had no idea if he would hear that or not.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Looking around, she could tell that most people were finishing up. "Wrap it up if you would please, students! Then feel free to return to your seats if you moved, or stay where you are, either way."
Another minute passed as she made her way to the front of the room and waited for things to settle down. "So. Today we will explore the Arrows of Pythagoras. Don't worry, no real arrows are about to come flying at you," she quipped. not that it was a good joke at all "The Arrows are related to the topic of karma, which we delved into a bit last year. They are also excellent ways of identifying personality traits, both positive and negative."
A jabbing motion of her wand made a grid appear on the board. "This is the basic grid you start off with. The first step is to highlight, circle, star, or somehow mark which numbers from your full birth date are used, ignoring any zero you might have, of course." Picking up the chalk, she wrote "21 June, 2037" on the board. "This is my birth date, so I will highlight the 2, 1, 6, 3, and 7." Another flick showed this on the board.
"So go ahead and give it a try. You need your grid filled in using the same order of numbers as you see up here." The numbers were in that order for a reason. Changing them would mess with the emotional, mental, and spiritual planes... not good.
OOC: Feel free to get a last post in with your tic-tac-toe game. Definitely didn't know other countries called it noughts and crosses, sorry about that! If you want to make a graphic, go for it; otherwise just use font color to designate your numbers (like so..).
Good, they were moving on! And it looked like Rooney was right about the Pythagoras thingy using the same shape as the noughts and crosses board. Smart classmate he had there.
Determined to follow directions to the t this time, Davie coppied down the professor's instructions and highlighted his own birthday. Cool that the professor was a June baby also.
He'd let him play? "Thanks Mate!" Really, 'cause he didn't have anyone else to partner with and didn't think he'd have liked sitting at his own desk to play all alone. It was no fun and he'd have been bored before he knew it.
As it happened, it was his turn again and the boy quickly made a move; the first one to come to mind as luck would have it.
But what? They had to stop already? This match was only just getting started. There was still a chance for either of them to win.
With a heavy sigh, Blaise faced forward in the seat he'd invaded, deciding it was better to stick close to his friend--partners twice, what else could he call it--in case they might need to partner up again later. Maybe they could even finish their game later after class. The boy would ask, afterall, the worst Daxton could do was walk away without giving him a response. Those weren't so bad.
The Gryffindor's eyes fixed on the Professor once more as she began her explanations. They were gonna be making squares with their birthdays? Well gosh, HE could do that and so he did, first drawing the square then fitting in his birthday.
Nope, Adi heard none of what Tanner said under her breath. If he had, he would have explained to her that he found the game boring because not many times there was a winner for the game and he thought it lacked excitement. That was all. Sorry, Professor. That earlier statement hadn't been meant for your ears.
....................
Annnd they were moving on!
"I know you want me to stick around so I'll stay here,'' Adi told Benny cheerfully as he got back out his writing stuff from his bag which was hung on the back of the chair he was sitting on.
He then zoned in on what Tanner was doing on the board. Oh. That seemed easy enough. Adi grabbed his quill, dipped it into ink and began to follow the pattern, using a coloured pencil to write the numbers from his date of birth.
He watched her start to make a move and then pull her hand back as she thought more. Very good idea Norah. She didn't know that Milo was VERY good at this game. He used to make his mom play with him over and over until she would get frustrated from losing and tell him to go outside or read something. "Alright." He made his move and then made a motion for her to go.
Where would she pick??
Holy guacamole. This firstie sure knew what he was doing. Norah watched him make his move with far less deliberation than it had taken her. Well this one was obvious, right? She lifted her quill and drew an X in between his two O's, 'cause he wasn't allowed to win that easily, no way.
Quote:
She opened her mouth to invite him to take his turn again, but was cut off by Professor Tanner's new instructions. Awww man, they hadn't even finished yet. With an apologetic look in Milo's direction for taking such a horribly long time, Norah turned back to her notes. The number parts were coming up. That was always a bad sign.
She felt her features fall back into a little frown, which was much easier when the cutiepie firstie wasn't there to make everything more exciting. Numbers numbers numbers. For real this time. She let out a long breath, then started on her grid just like the one Professor Tanner had drawn. Well, her lines were painfully squiggly, but it was as close as she was ever going to get. Straight lines were hard, okay? It was like this whole entire class had something against her. Once the numbers were written, she marked the birthday ones. Were they going to have to do maths with this or what?
Interesting move.
With a grin on his face, Ethan drew an 'O' in the middle.
Birthdays meant that Ellery and Olly were doing the same thing, which meant that they could easily cheat off each other if they needed to. This was a good thing, regardless of the breaking-of-grammar-rules-in-order-to-end-a-sentence-with-a-preposition. Ellery wrote some words down in her notes - the words that she heard the professor say, at least - then prepared her maths work.
What. He was probably giving her the exact reaction she was hoping for. G A H. SOPHIE BROWN. -_______-
Well he couldn't just take the move. Sophie would be all too pleased. And he DIDN'T want the pity win. If he was going to win he was going to do it right or not at all. He wasn't a Slytherin, he didn't just take what was dangled right in his face. He needed to put forth the effort. -______________- So uh, what now? He scratched his head for a second, still trying to decide on his move before turning back to Sophie. And giving her a look. Then back to the parchment.
HA. And then again he turned to Sophie, with a huge goofy grin on his face. "HA!"
...She was definitely rubbing off on him, wasn't she? Sweet Merlin. Two or three years ago, he would've NEVER done something like that - he would've just been flustered, probably, and blushed and laughed and pretended to be mad at her. But here he was, giving her a taste of her own medicine.
She was impressed, honestly.
"I've trained you well," came her smooth reply, the smirk still firmly settled upon her lips, though now there was clear amusement and elation in her eyes, and she playfully and affectionately reached up a hand to ruffle his hair before turning her attention to Tanner at the front of the room.
Arrows of Pythagoras. Sure, Soph knew just a little about this from her textbook readings, so she didn't take too many notes as Tanner explained... but she did take some to set a good example for the other kids, okay? And the brief little activity that followed was simple and straightforward enough, so Soph went ahead to get it done, digging in her bag to get out a PINK inkwell to indicate the special numbers on her parchment in contrast to the ordinary black ink.
Another grin. Ethan was about to put his next mark on the board, when Professor Tanner asked them to take their seats again, obviously about to move on with class. Giving the Gryffindor an apologetic shrug for not finishing the game, the Slytherin went back to his seat and immediately jotted down some notes.
Well, he was able to read that particular chapter in their book moments ago, so he sort of...have an idea on what he was supposed to do.
After taking down notes, he proceeded to scribble down his birth date, and drew his grid reflecting the numbers on his natal day.
... Sophie wasn't even mad? What. Merlin. The fact that she looked almost happy with what he had done was the exactly opposite of the reaction Zander had wanted. Sophie knew this game too well. And he wasn't talking about the game they had just completed on the parchment. He was talking about the game that was life... Or something like that. Whatever it was, Sophie was always the winner. How???
Maybe he'd pick that up from her one day eventually. Maybe. A boy can dream, right?
As he went to fix his hair and reply with some more than likely not-at-all-clever remark, Professor Tanner took position in the front again. Which meant that he was saved by the bell Professor. Ahem.
He jotted down a few notes, despite being familiar with the topic already... But then went ahead to draw out his own little square.
Looked like their game of tic tac toe was going to be left unfinished, but Paulina supposed that it could always be continued later if nothing else.
Comfortable where she was, she had decided to stay put in her new seat. Hopefully Professor Tanner wouldn't mind. Maybe if she needed help in the lesson Hady could help her even if she wasn't the best at Arithmancy either. At least it didn't seem to be TOO difficult at the moment. Paulina could work out which numbers in the square were related to her birthday. If the rest of the lesson was this easy she would be all set.
She indicated which numbers related to her birthday:
Hopefully she wasn't missing anything.
"Awesome game, Olympia!" The young lioness said. Now as the Professor had requested, she went back to her seat and continued the lesson. She paid attention to Professor Tanner's explanation about Arrows of Pythagoras. Grabbing a parchment, she drew a square and then divided it by nine, like the one for playing the tic tac toe before. And she filled the small squares with the number 1-9
And then... She highlighted her birthdate
The Idea Man Kori-Kins
Angel was enjoying the game of noughts and crosses and she hoped that everything would be cool and then the Professor said it was time. She did her move after the Professor said they could and then she went onto the next activity.
Angel had no idea what she was going to do next, she was so confused about the subject but she would continue anyway and she would do what she could do next and hope it was right.
Angel looked at her work and then she wondered what it all meant, she couldn't see anything else related to her birthday so she left it at that.
It didn't seem like their game would get to be finished just then but that was alright. Maybe if they had a few moments afterwards the last two or three moves could be taken. Setting the tic-tac-toe parchment aside Hady cast a small grin over at Paulina seeing as how she had chosen to remain where she was sitting. That was nice, it showed she didn't mind where she was seated beside her.
As she listened to the next set of instructions Hady took out a clean sheet of parchment and wrote down the required information on it.
So much for being a good note taker. Janelle was stuck without a partener and did not get to play Tic Tac Toe. Oh well.......on to the next task. She took more notes and wrote down the instructions for their next activity. This time she made sure to move a little faster. Now, it was time to go to work. Janelle copied down the grid and then began to highlight her birthdate information.
Once she was finished, Janelle sat back and looked at her grid. She couldn't wait to find out how they would be interpreting the numbers and what it all meant.
Daxton had won this game. It had actually become apparent to him that he had won the very moment that Blaise Bellaire had made his move and left both adjacent corners open for the taking. Daxton had claimed another corner, meaning the middle square needed to be blocked, which meant that he could then take the remaining corner, which he did now-
But they were moving on to actual Arithmancy now, which was good, at least. Daxton glanced up, then wrote a little message reading 'I win' under the game grid, though it was probably obvious, then paid close attention to what Tanner was saying, looking between the blackboard and his notes and textbook the entire time. When it was time to apply the grid to their own birthdays, he did just that, going over the lines of the appropriate numbers with his pen a few times so they stood out bolder and thicker.
The third year clapped and grinned at Ava. "Oh, well done!" She hadn't even noticed that it was the last turn.
As Ava went back to her seat, Olympia also turned to face the Professor. Olympia wasn't too good with numbers, and this lesson was kind of like Divination.. but she was determined to try all the same. Grabbing some parchment out of her bag, she picked up her quill off the table and wrote down the numbers aswell as her date of birth.
Arrows. Right. Rooney listened intently to all that Professor Tanner was saying, purposely ignoring the game of noughts and crosses he had played with David Truebridge earlier. The game was only going to stress him beyond belief and he was positive that that wasn't how he wanted to spend the entirety of this class. Noting down his birthday, and actually everything else, just to help him out a little more, Rooney allocated a pot of purple ink for the numbers he needed to mark in alignment with his birth date and his usual ink for the other numbers.
SPOILER!!: Rooney's Notes
Rooney A. Bronwyn
Arithmancy
Arrows of Pythagoras
Date of birth: August 1st, 2075
Numbers (birth order): 8 1 2 7 5
Numbers (num. order): 1 2 5 7 8
3 6 9
2 5 8
1 4 7
What next? What did that say about him? Why didn't he have any numbers on the top row? This was a problem, was it? WAS IT?!
Oliver really appreciated that this professor did not talk so much at a time. It was easier for him to understand. He was actually able to listen to all, or at least most, of it without completely zoning out. But even if he did, he would have been able to copy off Ellery, since they were doing things with birthdays. Nice.
Oliver tried to do it on his own first. It was just his birthday. 14/2/2076. He put circles around those numbers. And, just to make sure he was right, Olly glanced over at Ellery's paper. Yep, it was the same.
Tia understood Arithmancy. What she didn't understand was what Tic-Tac-Toe had to do with a subject about numbers. No matter though because they were moving on and Tanner had introduced today's topic, which was just to be working with their birthdates! Awesome! Working with birthdays was the best cause it was fewer numbers and just overall easier.
Jotting down notes on what Tanner mentioned about the Arrows of Pythagoras - though she was sure she'd read about it anyway, she then set to work in highlighting the numbers present in birthdate.
Hopefully he wouldn't be needing too much help if they ever did number things, 'cause she was rubbish at that. The game part could be lovely, though. "Sounds good!" She gave his grid an appreciative nod, then watched him draw his first O. Her turn!
Norah tried not to take too long in deciding where to put her X, but every time she moved her quill to make a mark, she'd draw her hand back again to think about it some more. The problem with tic-tac-toe is that it SEEMED so simple, but if you thought about it too much it got all complicated. Who needed thinking, anyways. She finally put an X right in the middle of the grid, where she'd planned on putting it initially before all the thinking happened. Giving Milo an apologetic grin, she nudged the parchment and grid in his direction. "Your turn."
She opened her mouth to invite him to take his turn again, but was cut off by Professor Tanner's new instructions. Awww man, they hadn't even finished yet. With an apologetic look in Milo's direction for taking such a horribly long time, Norah turned back to her notes. The number parts were coming up. That was always a bad sign.
She felt her features fall back into a little frown, which was much easier when the cutiepie firstie wasn't there to make everything more exciting. Numbers numbers numbers. For real this time. She let out a long breath, then started on her grid just like the one Professor Tanner had drawn. Well, her lines were painfully squiggly, but it was as close as she was ever going to get. Straight lines were hard, okay? It was like this whole entire class had something against her. Once the numbers were written, she marked the birthday ones. Were they going to have to do maths with this or what?
Milo watched her place her second 'X' blocking a place he could have won. No worries though because he hadn't planned on winning there he was going to win over--oh, they had to stop. BOOOO.
"It's okay." Milo said in response to Norah's frown. "We can always finish after class if you want." If she wanted to be beaten! Milo wasn't usually very upfront or one to brag about stuff but he was pretty competitive when it came to games. He grinned at her and turned his attention to the Professor who was starting the actual Arithmancy portion of the lesson.
SPOILER!!: Professor!
She could tell that the seeds of new acquaintances and friendships were being formed!
Really? Because she had been so sure that everyone would have heard of this game before... Tiara made her way over to the girl to show her how it was done, but before she reached her destination, Zeke Rogers stepped in. "Oh yes, noughts and crosses. Sorry, Angel." She forgot she was in the minority on its name.
Tiara had her eye on this young man, wondering how he would handle the request to pair up. As she suspected, he simply didn't do it. But then the Bellaire boy stepped in and, to her surprise, was accepted. Good. Perhaps Daxton was making some friends after all. She nodded her approval.
She may be older, but her hearing was still sharp! And therefore it shocked her to hear the closest thing to negativity she had ever heard coming out of Aditya Rehman's mouth. "I am sorry you feel that way, Mister Rehman," she muttered, also under her breath. She had no idea if he would hear that or not.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Looking around, she could tell that most people were finishing up. "Wrap it up if you would please, students! Then feel free to return to your seats if you moved, or stay where you are, either way."

Another minute passed as she made her way to the front of the room and waited for things to settle down. "So. Today we will explore the Arrows of Pythagoras. Don't worry, no real arrows are about to come flying at you," she quipped. not that it was a good joke at all "The Arrows are related to the topic of karma, which we delved into a bit last year. They are also excellent ways of identifying personality traits, both positive and negative."

A jabbing motion of her wand made a grid appear on the board. "This is the basic grid you start off with. The first step is to highlight, circle, star, or somehow mark which numbers from your full birth date are used, ignoring any zero you might have, of course." Picking up the chalk, she wrote "21 June, 2037" on the board. "This is my birth date, so I will highlight the 2, 1, 6, 3, and 7." Another flick showed this on the board.

"So go ahead and give it a try. You need your grid filled in using the same order of numbers as you see up here." The numbers were in that order for a reason. Changing them would mess with the emotional, mental, and spiritual planes... not good.

Text Cut: OOC Stuff
OOC: Feel free to get a last post in with your tic-tac-toe game. Definitely didn't know other countries called it noughts and crosses, sorry about that! If you want to make a graphic, go for it; otherwise just use font color to designate your numbers (like so..).

3 6 9
2 5 8
1 4 7

Right so the game of tic-tac-toe wasn't off base at all (not that Milo had ever doubted her)! He listened, brow furrowed as she talked about karma and the Pythagorean arrow grid thing. They needed to put their birthday into it, no highlight the numbers corresponding to their birthday in the already pre-ordered numbers of the nine squares.

But what? They had to stop already? This match was only just getting started. There was still a chance for either of them to win.

With a heavy sigh, Blaise faced forward in the seat he'd invaded, deciding it was better to stick close to his friend--partners twice, what else could he call it--in case they might need to partner up again later. Maybe they could even finish their game later after class. The boy would ask, afterall, the worst Daxton could do was walk away without giving him a response. Those weren't so bad.

The Gryffindor's eyes fixed on the Professor once more as she began her explanations. They were gonna be making squares with their birthdays? Well gosh, HE could do that and so he did, first drawing the square then fitting in his birthday.

All done.
Tiara nodded her approval to the young Gryffindor. "Good work."

This was not as fun as tic tac toe. This was, like, actual... math. She wrote down the grid and colored the numbers from her birthday. She had a sneaking suspicion she was going to learn things about herself she'd rather not learn.

She would have to remember this pairing any time they did calculations with birth dates. Perhaps it would be better to split them up..? She didn't want them to become dependent on each other. But only time would tell.

She was impressed, honestly.

"I've trained you well," came her smooth reply, the smirk still firmly settled upon her lips, though now there was clear amusement and elation in her eyes, and she playfully and affectionately reached up a hand to ruffle his hair before turning her attention to Tanner at the front of the room.

Arrows of Pythagoras. Sure, Soph knew just a little about this from her textbook readings, so she didn't take too many notes as Tanner explained... but she did take some to set a good example for the other kids, okay? And the brief little activity that followed was simple and straightforward enough, so Soph went ahead to get it done, digging in her bag to get out a PINK inkwell to indicate the special numbers on her parchment in contrast to the ordinary black ink.

Quite an aesthetically pleasing grid, if she did say so herself.

As he went to fix his hair and reply with some more than likely not-at-all-clever remark, Professor Tanner took position in the front again. Which meant that he was saved by the bell Professor. Ahem.

He jotted down a few notes, despite being familiar with the topic already... But then went ahead to draw out his own little square.
What did two thirds of the Arithmancy Dream Team have for her? "Solid work as usual, I presume?" she asked them, hardly glancing at their parchments.

Well, he was able to read that particular chapter in their book moments ago, so he sort of...have an idea on what he was supposed to do.

After taking down notes, he proceeded to scribble down his birth date, and drew his grid reflecting the numbers on his natal day.

Maybe if she needed help in the lesson Hady could help her even if she wasn't the best at Arithmancy either. At least it didn't seem to be TOO difficult at the moment. Paulina could work out which numbers in the square were related to her birthday. If the rest of the lesson was this easy she would be all set.

She indicated which numbers related to her birthday:

Hopefully she wasn't missing anything.

Was it just him? Or did his grid pattern look interesting? Did it mean something? Of course it meant something... and he really wanted to know WHAT.
Hmmm. "Interesting pattern, Mister Rogers," she said, leaving him in suspense. Tiara would not have pegged that as one of his arrows.

Angel had no idea what she was going to do next, she was so confused about the subject but she would continue anyway and she would do what she could do next and hope it was right.

Angel looked at her work and then she wondered what it all meant, she couldn't see anything else related to her birthday so she left it at that.
"You have an interesting grid, Miss Valentine," she remarked. Angel would have to wait a little longer to find out why, though.

That was nice, it showed she didn't mind where she was seated beside her.

As she listened to the next set of instructions Hady took out a clean sheet of parchment and wrote down the required information on it.

Done. Now what did any of this mean?
And what did Hady have for her? "Good work," that was the answer.

Janelle copied down the grid and then began to highlight her birthdate information.

Once she was finished, Janelle sat back and looked at her grid. She couldn't wait to find out how they would be interpreting the numbers and what it all meant.
"Well done, Miss Guidry," she said as she passed the young eagle's desk.

As Ava went back to her seat, Olympia also turned to face the Professor. Olympia wasn't too good with numbers, and this lesson was kind of like Divination.. but she was determined to try all the same. Grabbing some parchment out of her bag, she picked up her quill off the table and wrote down the numbers aswell as her date of birth.

Biting her lip in concentration, she then highlighted her date of birth.
Wow, now that was concentration. "Try not to focus too hard, dear. You may bite your lip," she said with a kind smile and a touch of amusement.

Noting down his birthday, and actually everything else, just to help him out a little more, Rooney allocated a pot of purple ink for the numbers he needed to mark in alignment with his birth date and his usual ink for the other numbers.

SPOILER!!: Rooney's Notes

Rooney A. Bronwyn
Arithmancy

Arrows of Pythagoras

Date of birth: August 1st, 2075
Numbers (birth order): 8 1 2 7 5
Numbers (num. order): 1 2 5 7 8

3 6 9
2 5 8
1 4 7

What next? What did that say about him? Why didn't he have any numbers on the top row? This was a problem, was it? WAS IT?!
And what about Rooney? "Yes yes, good Mister Bronwyn." Tiara beamed with pride at how many of her eagles were doing well.

Working with birthdays was the best cause it was fewer numbers and just overall easier.

Jotting down notes on what Tanner mentioned about the Arrows of Pythagoras - though she was sure she'd read about it anyway, she then set to work in highlighting the numbers present in birthdate.

This young lady had been fairly quiet today. Hopefully she just wasn't in a talkative mood today. "Good work, Miss Mancini," Tiara told her.

Milo watched her place her second 'X' blocking a place he could have won. No worries though because he hadn't planned on winning there he was going to win over--oh, they had to stop. BOOOO.

"It's okay." Milo said in response to Norah's frown. "We can always finish after class if you want." If she wanted to be beaten! Milo wasn't usually very upfront or one to brag about stuff but he was pretty competitive when it came to games. He grinned at her and turned his attention to the Professor who was starting the actual Arithmancy portion of the lesson.

When he was done highlighting his numbers, the first year laid his quill down and waited to hear what they would do next.
Milo was the last one she had yet to check in on. "Good work, Mister Vogel," she said, giving the first year some encouragement.

It looked like the noughts and crosses games had wrapped up nicely. And though she was sure that some of them were wondering why they had started that way, she couldn't just reveal all her secrets right away! As she walked around, she noticed that many of them were having an easy time of the highlighting. It hadn't been that hard of a concept, so she was pleased. "Everyone got their highlighting done?" she called as a way to bring the class attention back onto herself.

"Time to figure out what to do with them." Another swish of her wand made a change to her diagram. "Much like winning tic-tac-toe, the Arrows of Pythagoras happen when you form three in a row with your highlighted numbers. The 1-2-3 pattern I have is the Arrow of Planning, which is a positive Arrow pointing out my the strengths and weaknesses coming from my organizational mindset." She checked her notes briefly before finishing with, "The names of the other Arrows and their meanings are in chapter thirty for your reference."

She knew not all of them would have arrows, so she had to make sure she addressed that. "Positive Arrows are not necessarily good things, it just refers to the fact that the Arrow was found using the presence of three in a row." And if their minds were whirring, they might realize that the absence of numbers in a row also had significance. "Keeping in mind that Arrows represent strong traits in your personality, I would like you to share your ideas for what it might mean when someone does not have any positive Arrows present. Discuss with your partner, jot it down, talk to me.. Just as long as you are interacting with the question!"

.....So he had no arrows?

Was there something wrong with him? His brow furrowed even more as the Professor went on. He wasn't really pleased to find out that his would be different than the majority of people's birthday chart things. He didn't know what it meant but he hoped it wasn't bad.

Raising his hand to add a suggestion, Milo spoke when called. "I don't have an arrows on mine. Does that mean that maybe a specific part of my personality is 'foggy' or more difficult to put into a specific category or state?" He hoped that made sense.

Um. Oliver heard all of the words, but some of them didn't make sense together. He paused for a moment after they were left to their own devices, still trying to comprehend was it was exactly that he was supposed to do. He glanced at his grid and at the book, trying to make sense of what it meant. He had an arrow, at 1, 4, and 7. So, um...

"Arrow of practicality," he mumbled out loud. Okay, if that's what the book said. He nudged his sister. "I'm glad we have an arrow." What would it mean if they didn't? That they were dull, boring people with no personality?
