It was time for another Arithmancy class! Tiara was excited for this one, though that wasn't really anything new. It was normal for her to look forward to lessons. But she had a special interest in this topic for some reason, so hopefully the students liked it as well.
The classroom is warm and cozy against the chill that has hung in the air the past week. Contrary to the normal setup of desks in neat rows, today there is a small clearing in the center of the room. On the floor in the open space is a taped-off square, further divided into nine smaller squares. Each section has a number, one through nine, but other than that there is no indication of today's topic.
Professor Tanner stands behind the podium, prepared to greet you as you walk in.
OOC: The lesson will officially begin in around 8 hours. The lesson has officially started. Assume this is not the first lesson of the term, so Tiara will know your character by now.

The Gryffindor watched as a new image was but on the board and this was a bit more familiar. Okay so they were to work up to the more complicated idea by working on the simple game.
He could do this...for now.
Benny turned at the psst, only to hear and see Adi moving closer and claiming him as his partner for the activity. "Fine by me," he answered in response to both the possession that hadn't been a question, and the idea of his friend being the x's on the game board. He himself didn't have a preference, not really feeling like either had an advantage or anything else of the sort. Adi made the first move and after a few moments, the Gryffindor picked the spot for his first 'O'.
SPOILER!!: Game
"Next..."
Did Adi know Benny or whut? Yeeeah, he was going to go with the first option. With the matter of partnering and who got Xs and who got Os out of the way, the game got on the way.
....................
The Hufflepuff watched the Gryffindor consider his move, putting a neat 'O' below the 'X' he had made. Now it was Adi's turn to consider when that X would be going next. Really... it didn't matter to him if he lost or not. He randomly selected the spot on their left side, the very bottom of the grid. There!

Which... wasn't a bad thing, it was just... not what Soph wanted, especially considering just where Tobes was while she had to sit through a class that made her think of him every single time.
It hurt.
So much so that the Head Girl who was normally quite willing to speak up and offer answers aloud was silent all class, even when she had some guesses as to what was on the floor, and when they were instructed to play tic-tac-toe... Soph looked at Tanner like she was crazy. A game? That was... well, okay. Simple enough.
Shooting a sideways grin over at Zander, Soph prodded at him playfully and invited, "Partner? Y'think y'can handle this?" He SO COULDN'T. "I'll even let you go first." How nice was SHE?
Well, arithmancy had been a hard subject to sit through all year. Because Zander knew that this class had always meant TRIO TIME for Sophie Brown... But now there was no trio. Well, not a real trio anyways... 'Cause Toby had obviously graduated. And though he still felt like they were missing some minor details in the story, he was aware of all that was going on and where the former Hufflepuff was now. And Zander knew it was tearing Sophie apart on the inside, though she was doing a good job of convincing the majority of those around her otherwise.
So in this class, Muggle Studies, and Astronomy in particular, Zander kept a careful eye on the Head Girl. Just to make sure things were okay. Because those would probably be the hardest ones. Today especially, he let this careful watch distract him from their class discussion. He didn't have anything to offer up when asked those vague 'you're going to guess what we're doing in class today' questions... Though he was trying to be discreet about not paying attention. Because he liked Tanner and also detention does not look good on a Prefect. He learned that the hard way. But still he was concerned, so he kept quiet and stayed watchful.
Hardly even realized that they were gonna play a game. Not until Sophie turned over to meet his gaze which meant he might've been caught staring at her aheeeem. "Think? Soph, I KNOW I can." Eh. To be fair, Sophie Brown would most likely win. And he knew that. But it was his duty to help rile her up, knowing quite well that she'd do the same to him. So a smart retort was almost a requirement. "Very generous, Head Girl." And normally Zander was all for ladies first, but if she insisted. Hm.
Looking down, he drew out the playing board onto a piece of parchment. So many choices. So many open spots. X's or O's? Hm.

The brief surge of intrigue Daxton felt upon hearing they would be learning about the Arrows of Pythagoras was very quickly suppressed by his utter disdain at the news that Tanner wanted them to partner up. He stared at the bored, unimpressed, at the 'tic-tac-toe' grid, while around him everyone started to pair off and get started.
Daxton knew instantly that he did not want to partner up with anyone; interacting with people was unnecessary and frankly unpleasant, and he much preferred to operate alone. Always.
So the first year did not seek out a partner, and instead stayed exactly where he was, pulling his parchment closer and using his non-magical biro to draw out a set of small, near perfect grid shapes. Because yes, he would play... against himself. It was perfectly feasible.
Starting off at the first grid, Daxton leaned right forward to mostly block his parchment from anyone too nosy and he made his first move, sticking a cross in the corner.

More giggles following her words, Soph didn't even have to think about her move - she just made it.

"Your move, nerd."
Y'know, if it hadn't been for what she said next he really would've taken a moment to admire that twisted smirk of hers. But... Sweet Merlin. They were in CLASS. And he must've knocked his knee into the bottom of his desk in surprise. That was not expected. And Zander had probably properly gone red in the face at this point too. Aheeeeem. He coughed a few times 'cause ahem Arithmancy. Wow, Soph.
No one else heard that right?
Quickly he averted his attention back to the board, not even thinking about his next move, really just scribbling down his X in order to have something to do that didn't include being the personified version of a ripe tomato in the middle of a summer garden.

Sophie Brown was oblivious to the fact that she may have crossed a line - boundaries were never something she understood, many people would attest to that - but she did giggle just a little bit more at Zander's expense. When his knee hit the desk, Soph shot a grin over at Tanner - an apologetic one, and mouthed a 'sorry' to her - before returning her attention to Zander, her quiet giggles still adding background noise to the class activity.
"What? It's true." Innocent shrug.
Looking entirely too smug, Soph gave Zander a nudge as if to say quit it, you're drawing attention to us, as if SHE wasn't drawing attention to them by giggling up a storm, then nabbed the quill from him and took her turn, still unable to fully stifle her amusement.

Everything was SO FUNNY. And... to the trained eye, it was definitely more funny than Sophie Brown would've normally ever thought it was, so there was... definitely some overcompensating going on. Too desperate to feel happiness and fight away the lingering bad feelings of worrying about Tobes was the real explanation, though right now, she wasn't self-aware enough to pick up on any of that. She was just engrossed in the moment and LIVIN' THE DREAM.

"Such a close game," David remarked dryly.
Part of him was glad that David had placed where he had, because it was the move that the first year should have made a long time ago. Mere minutes, but still a long time ago. "Do you think this will be an active class? Like, we have to stand up and do things?" Debatably his least favourite kind of classes, because it didn't leave room for him to write everything down.
"Very close," he said as he placed his own move.

"I'm Kaycee, by the way." Because she probably should introduce herself to the person she was about to beat in tic tac toe her current arithmany partner.
Ah yes, a partner! Good, good! Ethan gave her a 'sup nod, and a grin. "You're on!" The Slytherin stood up from his seat, and followed his partner towards the board, and watched her scribble an 'x' on the top left corner.
Interesting move.
With a grin on his face, Ethan drew an 'O' in the middle.

SPOILER!!: Paulina
...Paulina WAS going to ask Adi if he wanted to be her partner, but he was already moving over to work with Benny.
Okay, plan B.
Scanning the room, she tried to find someone who was also partnerless. Preferably it would be someone she knew, but at this point it was honestly more important that they had some idea what to do with this subject. Arithmancy wasn't her strong suit so she would probably be dragging them down.
Hearing Hady asking for a partner, Paulina walked up to her. "I'll be your partner, but I'm not good at Arithmancy." Just a heads up.
Letting out a small breath Hady glanced around once more. Just when she was sure mostly everybody was already paired up the older girl she'd met earlier in the year walked over to her. Um what was her name again. Pa-Paulina. Yeah that was it.
With a small smile she nodded. "That's alright, neither am I," Hady admitted pulling out a clean sheet of parchment and grabbing her quill. "I'll get us started, mind if I'm the 'X'?" Might as well get the game rolling along for them both.

Angel was lost, she was very lost.. what was tic-tac-toe or whatever you called it? She looked confused as the Professor spoke and she raised her hand. "Professor what is tic-tac-toe?" Angel thought that was what the Professor had said and so she decided to ask, there was no point in doing something wrong though apparently she needed a partner to play this game.
"Anyone want to be my partner?" Angel asked the room at large, she then looked at the Professor and waited to find out what game it was she was playing.

He actually knew that game! HUZZAH!... granted, he wasn't very good at it, but it was easier than others.
Pleased enough with their task, Zeke pushed his textbook to the side before looking around for a partner. Anyone?

Angel looked at Zeke, when he asked if she had played this game before, hadn't he heard her ask the Professor what tic-tac-toe was, because at the minute she was really lost and confused about this game and she was a muggle. "I'm not sure, I've played noughts and crosses before, which this seems to be similar too." Angel just wanted to make sure she was right in guessing this was sort of the same game.
Angel passed the piece of parchment to Zeke. "If I'm right and it's like noughts and crosses you have to be the first one to get three crosses or cirlces depends which one you are and the other person has to try and stop you, so this game could end in a draw." Angel thought she'd guess.

Resting her chin on her hand, Olympia sighed; she wasn't keen on on Muggle games such as this, and now she also didn't have a partner. Maybe she could play it on her own? That sounded much easier.
Glancing round the room, Olympia even craned her neck as she looked for someone who was free to partner up. "Noughts and crosses anyone?" She waved her quill.

Right, so they're gonna play tic tac toe first.
At first, Ava wanted to work with Teddy but since she's still not speaking with him, the young lioness decided to find a new person to play with. She asked nicely. "I'm Ava by the way."

Janelle heard the professor tell everyone to partner up, but she was so busy writing notes that she was a little slow to respond. Putting her quill down, she looked up. Everyone seemed to have gotten a partner already and started playing the game. Janelle liked Tic Tac Toe, even though it almost always ended in a tie. It was not a game that you could play alone though and therein lied her problem.
Was there anyone left who didn't have a partner? Since scanning the room didn't seem to be getting her anywhere, she called out. "Anyone need a partner? I'm available." Did that sound desperate? Well she kinda was desperate at this point. Time was running out and she was partnerless. Anyone?

Starting off at the first grid, Daxton leaned right forward to mostly block his parchment from anyone too nosy and he made his first move, sticking a cross in the corner.
He liked how these plans were coming along. He was even gonna make sure he did all his homework on Friday so he wouldn't have anything stopping him on Saturday. Barring that, if laziness kicked in then he'd just wait til Sunday night and hope it didn't all keep him up too long.
Now then, he needed to find a partner? It was always partners wasn't it? Kinda made things harder for him when everyone that asked for a partner actually got one.
Blaise looked around the room, hoping he could still find ANYONE and that's when his eyes fell on Daxton, sitting there by himself. He'd never been happier to see the boy sitting by himself and before the opportunity missed him, the boy hopped up from his own seat and went to take the one before his year mate and past partner in crime. "Mind if I join you?" He wouldn't answer, not verbally anyway but Blaise didn't wanna be rude or pushy.
At the same time though...he did...kinda....put an 'O' on the paper. Ahem. Sorry?

She looked to her brother for a lot of things, and there was no chance she could have been the only Gryffindor without him!!
"I've been here since my first year." The third year smiled. "I was always coming here. My brother left about two years ago and he had told me all about it before I came!"
As Olympia put the cross above her nought, the young lioness put the next nought beside her X. She hadn't played this for a loooooong time, she used to play this with her friends in muggle primary school or with Teddy.
"Yeah. Though actually my mom wasn't a Hogwarts graduate, she went to school in Russia." But maybe if her mom went to Hogwarts, she's totally gonna be in Slytherin. "My dad did, and so did my uncle, elder brother and sister. My sister just graduated last term." Zhenya was such a great student. Some of people around here knew her and not to mention that she was being interviewed by the school bulletin.

Really... it didn't matter to him if he lost or not. He randomly selected the spot on their left side, the very bottom of the grid. There!
"Your turn, Dragon!''
His move was answered by Adi's move, Benny watching as the mark was added to the parchment between them. A fresh x in the lower left hand corner. It was still very open around either of their marks and the Gryffindor was trying to peg his own direction with his o's. He could go here...or here...or try to anticipate his friend's next move and attempt to block him. Decisions...decisions. Finally he picked up his quill once more and wrote his next o, choosing the left center spot next to his other o and above Adi's x.
