Potions Homework 1

  1. Once the brewing time for your potion is up, come to the classroom to put the fire out and add the animal sample you want. Do NOT come if it's after curfew, then I'll put it out and drop by in the morning.
  2. Take a dose of it and have fun in the school until it wears off.
  3. Write about your experience and owl it to me. It should be 1 inch long.
  4. For those whose potion I have vanished*, take from the potion I brewed for you.
  5. You can work in pairs or alone.
  6. If you want to use your own animal, owl (PM/VM/Skype/Twitter) me first.
OOC Instructions
  1. You do not have to RP coming to the classroom. Just imagine your characters did.
  2. You do not have to specify how long the potion is effective for, but please try to have a general idea, as there is a HUGE difference between 15 minutes and 5 hours of being an animal and that should affect how you RP. With this in mind, this is how I'll grade the homework:
    • The duration of the potion vs. your characters' potions ability (eg. a first year is very unlikely to brew a potion that lasts longer than an hour)
    • Details in your RPs such as: being foreign to that animal body at first, different perception of the five senses (don't go research how animals do that, I don't want that at all! I want your creativity) and so on.
    • Your interaction with other RPers (not necessary, only if you do)
    • General HW grading rules (creativity, plausibility etc)
  3. 1 inch=one paragraph of 3 sentences (it can be longer than that)
  4. *: If I haven't quoted you during class for a mistake and/or PMed you, then you can say your character's potion is successful. The potion Cosgrach will provide will last for ONE hour.
  5. I want a minimum of four posts. There is no maximum. Don't forget to include ALL of the links. The count starts at the first post the transfiguration starts.
  6. You can still do the homework even if you missed the class as always.
  7. As I have stressed it many times during the class, they still retain their human mind 100%, so RP accordingly. Thank you <3
Worth: 16 points+4 EC for an outstanding effort
Due: September 29, 23.59 GMT+1/18.59 DST.

There are two options for this homework. Please only complete ONE of them for credit. Doing more will not earn you double the house points. Extra credit is available to outstanding efforts and creativity.

option one (worth 15 pts)
Using your textbook, illustrate and label a chart showing the difference between a simple impact crater and a complex impact crater.

Vocabulary to include:
  • central uplift
  • floor
  • impact breccia
  • impact ejecta/ejecta
  • impact melt
  • raised rim
  • rays
  • wall

You may include additional information beyond the above if you wish.
OOC: This is a graphics specific assignment. Graphics should be your original work and not something copy pasted from the internet.
option two (worth 15 pts)
The Moon's surface is covered in craters. Simply looking up at it from our perspective here on Earth makes this fact obvious. Take your telescope and the appropriate spell to focus it, go out on the grounds or to the observatory (DO NOT DEFILE THE SANCTITY THAT IS THE SANCTUARY OF SCIENTIFIC INQUIRY) and do a bit of "cratergazing". Using your textbook to assist you, locate and identify 3 impact craters on the Moon's surface and pick 1 to write 2 inches on. I highly suggest you wait for the full moon for this assignment so you do not limit your lunar surface viewing area.
OOC: This is a RP specific task and requires a 4 post minimum. 2 inches, in this case, is one solid paragraph of at least 5 thoughtful sentences.
this assignment is due September 30th @ 11 pm GMT + 9

Please be sure you have read through Astronomy & Space Navigation and paid particular attention to the rules regarding homework submission. Late homework submissions will not be accepted. Any questions, concerns, or what have you can be sent to me via PM. You do NOT have to have participated in the lesson to do this homework.

Here's to seeing you guys at the other lesson that just went up- DADA 1! Remember to read the rules and not to announce any late arrivals!

Charms Homework 1

Without the intensity of the classroom, your task is to practice your respective charm in a game of stop/banish and catch. Younger students will attempt to catch the ball thrown by their partner by using Arresto Momentum. Older students will will attempt to banish the ball into their grasp. Collect a ball from outside my office and find a partner of any year. Don't be afraid to try large distances.

Keep in mind, first through third years will practice Arresto Momentum, fourth and fifth years will practice the Banishing Charm, sixth and seventh years will do as well, nonverbally.

After that is done, write a summary of what you learned about casting the spell or anything related to it, and add the name of your partner. Turn your homework into the Drop-In box for credit.

OOC:
- Three posts for each person playing, and PM the links to me, please.
- You don't have to write the summary, I'm only counting the RP posts OOC.
- Review the homework rules and have fun! If you have any questions don't hesitate to VM or PM me. (:

- Homework is due on September 27 @ 5 PM GMT -6.

Muggle Studies Homework #1

Bowling can be fun when you're playing one-on-one but there's just something extra exciting about bowling on a team! Team sports build camaraderie, inspire friendly competition, and give members a sense of belonging.

For homework, I'd like you to design a bowling shirt. Put your art skills to good use and be creative! Consider things like a team name, logo, and the colors that best represent the team.

Extra Credit: A paragraph explaining why you chose the team name you did and what you like best about bowling.

Due: October 5th, 2015 by 10pm EDT

OOC: Art can be done using photoshop, paint, or be hand drawn. Please make sure you're familiar with how to submit homework! <3

Transfiguration Homework One

You may work solo, as pairs, or in a group. Your task, if you choose to accept it;

Walk around the castle, inside or outside, and find an assortment of objects and try some of the spells listed below on those items. The larger your items, the more difficult it will be. Changing the nature (ie. Animate to/from inanimate) will also be more difficult, as will non-verbal spell casting.

Vera Verto
Incantation: Vera Verto (vair-uh VAIR-toh)
Wand Movement: Three taps
Effect: Transform object to water goblet

Flintifors
Incantation: Flintifors (Flint-ee-FORS)
Wand Movement: Point, upwards flick
Effect: Transform object to matchbox

Scribblifors
Incantation: Scribblifors (SKRIB-luh-forz)
Wand Movement: Point, flick to the right
Effect: Turn object into quill

Fungifors
Incantation: Fungifors (Fuhn-gee-FORS)
Wand Movement: ‘n’ shape
Effect: Turn object into mushroom

Piertotum Locomotor
Incantation: Piertotum Locomotor (PY-air-TOH-tuhm LOH-koh-MOH-tor)
Wand Movement: Point at object
Effect: Animates target object

Minimum 5 posts per person. Please label each post (eg. Transfiguration Homework Post 1… etc. or some variant). Have fun with it; marks are given for content, not based on whether their character was successful. You don’t need to do all of the spells, but have fun with trying some of them on different things to see what happens.

Homework Due in 2 weeks (Saturday 10th October at 11:59PM GMT). Read the guidelines regarding homework submission.
[/INDENT]
