The classroom was ordinary this morning. The desks were lines perfectly in three long rows, nametags were put on each desk indicating where everyone sat during their last class. It was cold outside but the classroom had a tad extra warmth in it than anywhere else in the castle (maybe except Botros' office which was always heated extra). Botros stood by his big desk leaning on his cane/staff and waiting for the students' arrival.
ooc: - Lesson will start in about 12 hrs from now, so you can post your character walking in.
- Today's lesson will not be too Runes-related but rather blending with the school's camps, so I encourage you to attend even without being knowledgeable about runes!
- Please familiarize yourself with this Class' rules and guidelines before posting here.
- Let's have fun!

Oh, Rusty was a nickname. Like Dot. That was something Dot would need to ponder at a later date: were gingers more or less likely to have a nickname related to their physical appearance? She couldn't ponder it now, since they were on a deadline and everything.
"It's very nice to meet you, Rusty. I don't mind if we go outside, but we shouldn't wander too far if we want to make it back in time." Dot gestured for the younger girl to join her, and she headed for the door.
Well this was awkward. Davie hadn't spoken up in time to describe anyone (because he'd wanted to be last, so no one would describe him) and now he was partner-less. He liked the idea of this activity though, even if it had nothing to do with Ancient Runes.
So, partner-less David made his way up to the professor as instructed, and joined the little group of kids who also didn't have partners. "I need a partner too, sir," he piped up.
Gwen, as always, was happy to be working with another first year. She went up to him. "Hey, I'm Gwen Rose. Are you excited for ancient runes? I've spent sooooo much time reading Tales of Beedle the Bard over and over again trying to translate it, and I just find it hard." Crap, she was doing it again, wasn't she? Talking too much? Letting her nerves get the best of her?
As they headed back into the classroom, Rusty gave Professor Botros a HUGE smile and held up the blank flashcard. "We did it, Professor!" And she was pretty proud of herself. "It was super fun! I love making new friends." With that, she turned her smile back to Dot who, like it or not, was now on Rusty's mental list of friends.
Well Zander just went zero to one hundred real quick.
His smile was at it's peak now. How the heck could he manage to wipe it off his face before Botros suspected that they were up to something? 'Cause let's be real... Zander never walked into Runes with a giant smile on his face. It was unheard of. But he probably wouldn't stop smiling now. 'Cause he was gonna marry this girl one day. He just had a gut feeling.
Uh.
What.
Aheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeem.
He decided to let his sudden shock/smiling/whatevertheheckhewasdoingnow go unexplained. Not like he could say any of that out loud. He'd look like even more of a sap than he already did. And also he didn't want to give Sophie Brown a heart attack at age 18.
"Right yeah, right... Yeah," he nodded, getting up and helping to pull Sophie up as well. "I kinda figured this one would be on me," he smiled sheepishly, unballing the fist holding the now crumbled notecard.
And with that, he began heading towards the classroom.
Zander's goofy smile was annoying because she still wanted to be sad but she COULDN'T be when he was being so cute, and soon in their voyage back to the classroom her smile was matching hers. She was certain that her previous spell of crying still had visible traces, but at least the smile probably mostly hid it, as it went all the way up to her eyes.
"Good luck," she murmured to him just before they crossed into the room, hugging his arm as they went, partly to encourage him and partly to keep herself stable, too.

And man was he relieved that Sophie was now smiling too.Not that he felt completely guilt free or anything. Because he still felt bad about making her cry. Merlin, he'd have to find a way to make it up to her.
And he wasn't too worried about ripping up their assignment when he had done it... But now Sophie wished him luck, he was sort of nervous. Hopefully Botros wasn't gonna take it all too seriously. It really was just a notecard after all... Plus, they had sorta done the assignment. And there was no snogging involved much to Zander's displeasure.
But still he gave Sophie a small, confident nod before heading over towards his Professor with crumbled halves of the flashcard in his hand. "Activity was great, Professor... But er, I sort of got caught up in the moment?" He mussed his hair with the hand that wasn't holding the balled up notecard bits. "I know it's kinda hard to see 'n all now... But I swear we did the assignment... And the notecard was my fault." Just a notecard though. No real harm done.
Botros sat in class all hour reading and making notes from a Runes book, he had his glasses on his nose and a small smile spread across his face. It wasn't until the first couple had returned to class that he became aware of his surroundings, "Oh hey," he greeted them, closed his back and put down his glasses. "Hope you had a fruitful interaction. Let's wait for the rest of class to return before we do one more thing then you'll be dismissed." He smiled at them and went to stand by the door, waiting.

Slipping back into the room, Zeke gave Janelle a parting wave and returned to his seat. Turns out he didn't need his quill after all... or at least, he hadn't used it. All they had to do was chat, right?
And... was he late? Were they late? .... He hoped not.
Clearing his desk a little, Zeke shoved his runes textbook back in his bag... he wouldn't be needing it today it seemed, but his notebook remained on his desk.

That hadn't been to bad honestly. Some of it might have been a bit awkward like the whole share something personal portion but they both had managed it. And now all they had to do was return to the classroom.
Walking back into the room, her partner not to far behind her Hady glanced over her shoulder and gave Benny a small grin. Sliding down into her seat she quietly put all her things back into her bag while waiting to see what if anything else had to be completed before the lesson was over.

Janelle returned Zeke's wave as they entered the classroom and then headed to her seat. She sat down and pondered what had just happened. She hadn't expected the activity to go well, but it had.......at least she thought that it had. Janelle had actually enjoyed getting to know her classmate. It was something that may not have ever happened, if left to chance. She wondered if they were going to do anything else today or if their work was done.

Blaise should have thought it was too bad they never got to finish asking each other questions but really he didn't. He didn't want to talk about what he was scared of anymore and he didn't want to discuss his feelings anymore. Interviews were always better on the side that asked the question, a fact he was believing more and more by the day.
Sure his quill got some good material but it got him TOO and made him sound even WORSE than he actually had out in the corridor. If it wasn't for the sake of memories he would have ripped the page out and asked someone to burn it for him.
Anyway, the young Gryffindor headed back toward the classroom when he saw others doing the same, figuring they were already out of time. It's what happened when you left late but again, he didn't mind. Saved him from answering any of the other questions he might otherwise have needed to.
As he entered, he heard the Professor mention another activity before they left? No more bonding yeah? He didn't think he wanted to know anymore about anyone for now.

Yes, they had survived the experience.
It wasn't all together too horrible, but way to get one seventh year lion out of his comfort zone. Benny caught the grin sent his way from his partner and returned a small smile to Hady before returning to his seat. Now to see if the professor had anything more for them now that they had completed the previous task at hand.
Norah beamed at Professor Botros as she reentered the classroom. That was GOOD activity. She approved a hundred million percent.
She sat back down at her desk and swiveled around to see who was back too, before facing the front again. Was the next thing going to be just as good? A game? FOOD?
A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.
Entering the ancient runes classroom after Norah, Yoongi couldn't help but feel like he made a new friend. This activity had been really excellent, especially for him because he was still new at school. Giving a thumbs up at the Prefect, he walked away from her to sit at his own assigned seat.
So, those prompts had been... awful. And really stupid. And also awful. In fact, Daxton had opted out of most of them, and loopholed his way through the rest. He returned to the classroom, school bag and activity partner in tow, and resumed the seat he had vacated earlier.
Botros clasped his hands on top of his cane while everyone took their seats. "Now before we leave, we need to see how useful that activity has been for all of you. I need each one of you to describe their partners with one word only, just like before, only this time we want to see if you learned something deeper about your classmates." He smiled at them then gestured to the board behind him. "But before that, look at the rune behind me. What we're doing right now falls under the meaning of Wunjo, the rune of harmony and friendship. Human connections in a positive, supportive way can be stronger and long-lasting with the help of the Wunjo rune," his eyes met the sleepy eyes of some students, "There is another rune for connections of love and endearment, Wunjo is specifically for friendship and support. Harmony in communities." Yes? Yes.
"Now, let's begin the last activity! Describe your partners, go on," he motioned for them to start.
ooc: - just like Botros said, post your character describing their partners with one word only.
- you have 24 hrs to post before we can dismiss you.

If you would believe it, Adi DID actually get a bit of cramming in before his peers came back in. And when Botros started going on about Wunjo, he was sure that he would always remember the meaning of at least that rune thanks to the activity that they had just completed.
But right now he just needed one work to describe the awesome girl he had been partnered with. Gosh, so many words came to mind not because he had learnt more about her a few moments ago but because he had known her since her first day here at Hogwarts. So, his list of words to describe her had grown but one stuck out.
His hand went up. "Sensitive,'' Adi said, smiling in Ava's direction before looking at Botros. "Ava is sensitive.'' Yup! Beneath all those pranks and wicked sense of humour was a girl who had insecurities like him. They were more alike than he had realised.
Zander's sort-of apology was disregarded, which was... probably hopefully a good thing? Botros must not have cared, and Soph gave Zander a weak, supportive smile as they went back to their seats beside each other. At least it didn't seem that they were going to fail now that they'd took their own route with the assignment...
...Unless she chose a bad word again, as Botros wanted them to try again. More specifically, he undoubtedly wanted those who had chosen poor words the first time to do better this time.
Her word choice hadn't been bad, though, for the record. She still stood by it. But... she could play along.
When it was her turn, Soph smiiiiiled angelically at Botros and offered her piece. "I stand by my belief that Zander is still much more than just one good adjective, but one thing he really is, as demonstrated during our class time together, is... encouraging. If y'need someone to make you feel better 'n cheer you up, he's your guy." No one could deny that.
A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.
Wunjo.... he liked this rune. It sounded so positive and helpful. Yoongi listened at the Headmaster as he began the class again bit was surprised when he told them that there was just one question left.
Getting curious, the Gryffindor sat more upright in his seat and then looked at his partner Norah when the Headmaster said to describe their partners once more.
A lot of words popped up to be honest. But his thoughts were interupted by Sophie telling aaallll about Zander. Ugh love birds. When he got a girlfriend he hoped he'd never act that way.
Oh right, the task. "Norah is....doubtful" Honestly, he had wanted to say something super positive like 'she's so confident' but she isn't. So yeah, doubtful sounded like the best way to describe the Prefect. He hoped she wasn't angry with that...

Stuff was being said.
Wunjo. The rune of friendship. This was one rune she liked and would now remember. The fourth year cast a quick look over at Adi remembering their talk at the fountain outside. Then she looked over at Benny who was her partner for this.
She listened silently taking in what was being said. As others before her took their turns describing their partners Hady had one word in mind for the Lion. Only her big brother Adi had used it for his partner. Ugh! Thanks Adi!
SIGH. Wanting to use a different word she looked at Benny onice more before giving her answer. "Benny is...shy." He was. Not overly so where he couldn't make friends or wouldn't talk but enough so where he didn't talk to much. Though she knewh we was an awesome friend and more open when he knew people. She totally gave him props today for doing so well with the questions. Hopefully her word of choice didn't bother him.

Well everyone else had taken about three hundred hours to come back from wherever they'd gone off to - clearly the edge of the grounds or something - Benzi had used the time to read up on Ancient Runes which was the subject they were actually supposed to be studying. Not to be that annoying Ravenclaw but exams anyone?
Anyways, by the time they'd all come back Benzi had actually gotten some studying done and he leaned back to listen to Botros as he explained the next activity. Which was describing their partner in a single word. Sigh. Looking over at Rea, Benzi thought back to their discussions and debated between two options before he settled finally and raised his hand. "I think Reagan's passionate, sir." And that was that.

Doubtful. That was really different from enthusiastic, which is what Zander had called her at the beginning of class. Huh. So which one was it? Or sometimes one and sometimes the other? Or both simultaneously at the same time? Somebody needed to clarify that, uh huh. Whoever expected her to have everything figured out by now really needed to take lessons on how to be a fifteen year old girl, 'cause that was 0% the case. Puhlease.
Norah thought for a moment before putting her hand in the air. "Yoongi is honest." He WAS. He answered all the questions like he meant it and he called her doubtful which was probably true even if she hadn't figured out what exact situations that were meant. e even told the truth about all the good stuff about himself, which was even cooler. Honest for sure.

More and more students were arriving back and Benny was mildly grateful that he and Hady hadn't been one of the last. He would have felt bad about holding his partner up, knowing his delay in dealing with the impersonation question had slowed them down even a little. No matter, they were back and before Botros was moving them onto the last little activity; a second attempt of the first where he had called the man wise and Dot had referred to him as pragmatic.
Okay...lets see what was mentioned of people now.
Adi was first to raise his hand and speak up this time, describing his partner, Ava, as sensitive. A few others took their turns as Benny tried to figure out what he wanted his answer to be, eventually finding himself being described by his own partner. Shy...um...okay. He supposed it was entirely true in his case. Even if the pragmatic did sound somewhat more...interesting. The Gryffindor debated a word for Hady some more before finally raising his hand to partake in this last activity.
"Hady is...graceful." Grace was certainly needed to be a good dancer. And it wasn't totally useless in any of the other things they had spoken about in the library.

He supposed this was some weird social experiment thing that Botros was doing, but it was interesting. Zeke wasn't about to complain about a lax class, it suited him just fine, though he would need to address Runes stuff soon enough. He was unable to suppress the slight smirk that formed when the Professor made mention of the Wunjo rune, linking it to the activity that they did. Nice work, Professor, slipping that in so casually.
What was perhaps most interesting though, was how people responded about their partners. Some made sense, like Hady being graceful, others didn't, like Norah being doubtful... and then there was Sophie. Did she HAVE to talk so much? Botros said one word, not an essay.
But then it was his turn, and so he supplied his assessment of his partner with a smile. "Janelle is strong." Among other things.
dream until your • dreams come true ~ Human pygmy puff
Once everyone was back in the classroom, they had one more thing to do. But first, Janelle copied down the information about the rune Wunjo that Professor Botros presented. Then........it was same activity, different partner. Janelle guessed that the professor wanted to see if they had learned anything.
Janelle had to describe Zeke in one word. That was proving to be extremely difficult. She hadn't learned everything that there was to know about him, but it was still hard to pick just one word. After giving it some thought, Janelle was able to narrow it down to two words. She then listened as her classmates described their partners. When Zeke described her as strong, Janelle smiled. She tried to be strong and most of the time, she was successful......but not always.
Finally, Janelle raised her hand to return the favor to her partner. She had made her decision and decided to go with her first choice."Zeke is resilient." He was definitely that and a whole lot more. It was too bad that they couldn't use more than one word. Zeke was definitely way more complex than just resilient.

See? There was nothing to worry about. Botros didn't have anything to say on the matter of their ripped notecard, so CLEARLY that meant they were fine. Seeee? He returned Sophie's small smile with one of his own as he followed her to a seat. Alright then, what now?
He tried his best to keep composure as Botros went on to slip two Runes into the mix. Typical. Very smooth Professor. Very well done. A+ for you, Sir.
Hehe.
But to be fair, this was still an Ancient Runes lesson despite the random topic for the day. At the mention of the question, though, Zander really had to think for this one. There were LOADS of words he could say for Sophie Brown. LOADS. And now he saw why she went with the cheat of 'indescribable' earlier 'cause honestly, he wanted to use that now. Though, he'd probably get into trouble for it so he opted against going with his gut on this one.
Incredible? Would he be allowed to use incredible? But again he felt as if the word would be deemed to vague. So he kept quiet some more. "Sophie Brown is capable," he decided in the end. Capable meant a lot of things here, though. Capable of doing everything she had her mind set on. Capable of breaking free from all the expectations pinned down on her. Capable of surviving through all the hard times. Yeah. Capable. He liked that one.
