The castle houses numerous suits of armour, scattered all about, but one of the most impressive collections can be found on the second floor, as if guarding the way to the Headmistress' chambers. Why, even their spacing down this corridor could be a deliberate attack pattern.
Careful what you try with these dusty, dirty, squeaky knights. They can be rather... animated.

How is it that everywhere he had decided upon was already used by other people? Of course the Suits of Amor were probably a very popular choice just on account of how funny it'd be to have House Colored Amor.... But STILL. Was it really that predictable of a choice?! Merlin. He needed to work on this creative thinking thing.
Despite that, Zander was still going to color-change one of the suits because he had already made it this far down the castle so might as well get the task done, y'know? No point in turning back after going through so much to get over here. It was a real concern of his, actually.
He passed by the already colored suits, secretly wondering whether one of them would come to life and squish Zander for what he was about to do. Speaking of which, he already had his wand ready in anticipation. But once he got close, woah. This was truly exciting. Finally passing one of the miscolored suits, he pointe before whispering a low, "Colovaria," Yet nothing was happening?? Wait wait wait. He was almost done with practice and yet he couldn't get it properly done of the last attempt?
No this was wrong.
"Colovaria," he tried again, this time sounded much more confident so that this time the suit changed to a scarlet red. There. Merlin, he was starting to get a headache.

To Caleb, turning a suit of armour Slytherin green seemed very logical. It was the first thing that popped into his brain when he saw the homework, actually. Apparently no other Slytherins felt that way, though - all the OTHER houses had come here, but no Slytherin?! REALLY?! Way to gooooooo, snakes. As usual it was up to Caleb to fix things. Sigh.
Going up to one of the unaltered suits of armour, he pictured it all green in his brain and then closed his eyes. He concentrated hard on picturing the suit of armour dark Slytherin green, and pointed his wand at the suit. ”Colovaria!” he exclaimed. Slowly, the silver started to fade and was replaced with a dark green.
Caleb grinned. Success! NOW they had some Slytherin representation! BOOM.

SPOILER!!: Cassie
It was nice to be understood though Cassie wasn't one to care if people did. She was sure to walk to the beat of her own drum. Hady though seemed to get her and understand. She smiled as she saw the girls eyes back on the armor. "Yes it is. They listen very well and if they do not talk at least you have the comfort of knowing your thoughts won't be accidentally said." There was only one other person she fully trusted with her thoughts and secrets and that was Nessa.
Speaking of her history best friend she smiled as Hady mentioned reading something about them moving, "Oh yes very wonderful stories about them protecting this castle. Professor Glendower would be able to show you all of them if you are interested." Her own eyes moving back to the armor for a moment.
"You know, I bet their is a charm that could make them speak." She wasn't sure of what it was, but she knew Maddox would know. Maybe if Hady really wanted them to talk that could be something she researched a bit. "I know there is plenty of charms out there for everything else, so there has to be one to make them speak."
If they spoke though would they start spilling all the secrets that were entrusted in them?
Now that was a point well made Professor Cassie. One that had the third year instantly nodding her head in agreement. "I agree. Sometimes it's nice just to be able to talk to someone and be able to know they won't go about repeating what you've said to anyone else." That's were problems began and she didn't need any more problems. Her secrets were always best kept to herself...or maybe one or two very special friends.
"Listening to stories about the castle is fun, I may just go and find her later." There was never any shame in learning about the castle. Most of what she learned was due to her reading or from stories her father had told her growing up.
Hady let her hazel eyes leave the sight of the armor to seek out professor Cassie when the comment of a charm being used to make the armor speak was given. Was it really possible? Most likely. There did seem to be charms or spells for almost everything else so why not this? "Maybe and as fun as I bet it would be to hold a conversation with one of them standing before us it might cause problems if the charm wasn't lifted when we've finished speaking with them." Hady chewed her lower lip in thought as she looked back to the armor. The stories they could tell were probably some of the most exciting but some of the secrets they could spill might just be some of the worst kind.
Like with everything there was always the good and the bad.

She couldn’t help but smile, someone that really understood. What a wise young lady to understand that already. The world was full of mean people and the best thing anyone could do was make the most out of nice people and talk to suits of armor. It is nice to have something or someone to talk to. Sometimes it’s hard to know who to trust your thoughts to as a child.” She certainly got that, she had been a child once.
Eeep! She was going to go find Nessa! Oh Nessa will be sooooo excited. “Oh if you do, can you take this book for me. I have been meaning to return it to her.” She’d be seeing her best friend really soon, but she didn’t want to lose the book, so if Hady would want to take it to her that would be fabtastic!
She looked at the armor thinking about what they might say, [b] “I bet they have so much they could tell us. It would be super cool to hear, but somethings are probably better that they don’t speak of.”[b] She knew growing up she spent time here pouring out her heart, so that would not be something even older she’d want the armor to talk about. “Maybe they would just answer questions"

Hady turned her head to look at her professor with a small smile. It sure was hard knowing who to trust. Once was why she hardly trusted anyone with her secrets. "It is hard. There's always that tiny chance that the person you tell will go and tell someone else even if you think they won't," she agreed quietly. That was the worst part. What-if's were a horrible thing. She wasn't able to think about that very long however as she was being asked to return a book. "Of course. If I'm already going to speak with her then returning the book for you won't be a problem at all." She was going there anyhow so really it just made sense to say yes.
Allowing her eyes to travel back to the suits of armor she smiled a bit to herself thinking of all the stories to be told by them. "They must know so much about the castle and all that's happened here. About all the students and professors too." Oh the things these armors must have seen and heard in all their years standing about the castle.

YAY!! Hady would take the book, that would be fabtastic and it gave her more time to get a few other things done before she went and met her bff for dinner. They did have things to talk about. There really wasn't a day that they didn't though so it wasn't any different. [B] "Thank you sooooo much! This is a huge help. Tell her I will be down around dinner time. I must get back to the seventh floor for a few meetings." She knew of two students that had requested some time. Hady was such a doll too! She grabbed the book out of her bag and handed it to the Slytherin.
"Thank you again for this!" Her eyes followed Hady's to the armor again, "I would think so, they are very old." She whispered as if the armor would hear. Glancing at her watch she couldn't believe how much time she had spent here.
"Hady, I must be off, but thank you sooo much for the chat and taking the book for me." She so enjoyed talking with her students.

Hady was a bit surprised with how happy she had just made her professor. All she'd done was agree to take the book with her and return it. If all things could be so easy and make someone so happy then her life would be a piece of cake. "It's no big deal really, I don't mind at all," she assured her professor with a light smile.
Accepting the book she carefully placed it into her bag so as not to let anything happen to it. It'd be safe there. I'll be sure to tell her for you." Did the two professors meet together often and have meals? It sounded nice really having someone to confide in like that, that you also worked with.
Laughing softly she nodded her head. "They are but that's what makes them so interesting." Her eyes shifted back and forth between the armor and her professor. "Anytime Professor, it was nice speaking with you as well. Have a nice day," she smiled lightly ending the conversation there so as not to keep Cassie from doing anything else she had to do that day. It was nice speaking with professors outside of lessons sometimes.

Maybe it WOULD be best for him to take those off as well. Then they could clean his bare feet while the Ravenclaw floated in the air and then he could slowly be lowered down on to the man's suit. It sounded like a brilliant plan to the man.
"You know what DOES smell bad?" he said, gears in his head still turning as he thought over these procedures. "Turtles. Do you like turtles, Mr. Rooney?"
Ravenclaws. They asked too many questions. He should have just gone with telling the boy about looking for the secret passageway in the first place.
"I was...uuuuuuh..." How did this all come so easily to Maddox? "Tossing it haphazardly about. Against walls to watch it bounce. Muggle rubber bouncy balls. Quite fascinating to play....I mean...study. They bounce all over the place and somehow manage to sneak into the tiniest nooks and crannies as if they had a mind of their own."
Not that he had any real life experience with that sort of thing. Ahem.
His ears were most definitely turning an obvious shade of red now, which he tried to hide by rubbing them with the palms of his hands. Itchy, er, earlobes. Yes.
With a raised eyebrow Rooney leant his hand on his hip as best as he could to continue with his whole being "manly" whilst at school and not letting people know that he sang on stage and knew the routines to the entire West End production of Hairspray. And more. But manly. Manly. Or..you know, not as girly as all of those sing songs made him seem. That was what Calliope said anyway. "There aren't any turtles here, Professor." What point was he trying to make right now? "But I don't have a targeted opinion on the breed, Sir."
Was there a right or wrong answer here? Rooney didn't think there should be one. What had the turtles done to Professor Spaceface?
"Ah." The first year nodded with a smile. "I lose one of those in our Christmas tree every year. I have a theory that maybe they aren't really of Muggle origin. But I can have a look in there for you." And he'd also pocket whatever else was in there, if there was an array of objects at his feet. The Ravenclaw wiggled his foot to suggest that he was ready for his suit of armour entry stool.
"... Of course, you could have used 'accio', but that would mean you believed the ball was in there."

Observations.
That....Merlin. Ravenclaws.
Face falling for a moment as it seemed the young man was not going to answer his inquiry, the astronomer rubbed the back of his neck and gave the area a cursory look over. Yes. Quite aware that there were no turtles around. "Weird creatures though, don't you think? That whole...shell thing...being composed of 50 different bones and, in actuality, is an evolutionary modification of the rib cage and part of the vertebral column. Makes all those muggle cartoons about turtles crawling out of their shells rather ridiculous, don't you agree? One can't very well dismantle your own spine and ribs, after all."
Attention entirely away from the suit of armour in question, he tapped his index finger against his chin.
"You know, in ancient Chinese astrology there was a constellation known as Turtle Beak located in the region of the sky known as The White Tiger of the West. Associated with autumn, for the record. Consists of three stars including Meissa, a star in the constellation Orion, that was known to these ancient peoples as the First Star of Turtle Beak. Bit weird to call the mouth of a turtle a...beak...isn't it?"
Didn't BIRDS have those things?
This was why he never did well in Magical Creatures, they made no sense. Theoretical astrophysics was more straight forward.
"REALLY?" he gasped, his eyes wide with curiousity. "Do go on."
Ignoring the Summoning charm comment for now. Couldn't summon something that wasn't there to begin with anyway.

As Rooney listened to the words falling out of his Professor's mouth, he wished he had his notebook out already to scribble everything down. All of this information. All of the facts he was being given. Absolutely everything that was being said needed to be written down but the utensils were not here for him. Instead he desperately listened, eyes wide and brain sponged. "Does living in a shell interest you, Professor?" Was that was he was trying to hint at? Roo wasn't sure how he felt specifically about that whole thing himself, but he would encounter the logistics of the idea later. With Winston. He'd discuss them with his rock.
Not the spacefacegalaxybrain Professor that posed insanely weird questions to his students.
..................
......................
And there came more of the information that he catastrophically required writing down but wasn't entitled to right now. He blinked a few times and managed a nod as Professor Flamsteed finished speaking. "I.. Yes... Weird. Very weird. Maybe the genetic functioning of their mouth is similar to that of a bird's beak." It was something that the first year was going to delve into later and try research as best as he could. Mama could send him over some research files and Daddy Dex could at least offer his animal-loving insight.
"We, as a species, are either genetically prone to owning small knick knacks that we lose easily and actually never find - OR they have specific properties that give them a countdown shelf life and the ability to just disappear. Like hair grips. Mama and my sisters lose them all of the time and only once have I or one of my brothers trodden on one. They're just gone. Disappeared. Is there an answer for it, or am I barking up a nonsensical tree, Professor?"
Wasn't he supposed to be relocating himself into that suit of armour?

Hmmm...well...that certainly was an interesting question to ask. Something about the protective cover was moderately appealing, but the more metaphorical sense of the words was much less appealing. The astronomer was not one for feeling trapped or being placed in a box for any reason, and a shell rather felt like that sort of thing. Didn't it? "Not so much, Mr. Rooney," he said with several shakes of the head. "It's just an interesting little evolutionary adaption. Isn't it? And then you have those soft shell turtle's soft shells. Just makes one wonder, doesn't it? Considering how evolution isn't a conscious process and all. Especially when one considers how a turtle's body plan arose very early in the history of life. During the late Triassic period, to be exact. Fascinating."
He looked towards the Ravenclaw again with curious pursing of his lips while thoughtfully tapping his index finger against his chin.
"Do you know much about turtle evolution, Mr. Rooney?"
And that was an interesting theory about beaks. Not that he knew much about birds either. They had feathers...and that was about it. Ate worms? Early fwooper catches the worm and all that, right?
"What function is that? Pecking wood?"
Birds did that too, yeah?
He listened carefully as the young man shared another theory, which somewhat went back to their turtle talk and that excited the man more than he was willing to admit. "I don't think you are anywhere near the nonsensical tree," he applauded. "I wonder if you have thought so far as to come up with a means of testing your theory?" Because it sounded like just the sort of project he could use as another distraction.

Mr. Rooney… Yes, yes, that was still a little odd to him because his surname WAS Bronwyn, but he was now somewhat understanding Professor Flamsteed’s issue with being called ‘Sir’. It was definitely a habit that Roo was going to try cut down, or completely eliminate whilst around Sir Spaceface. ”Maybe they have just decided that they’re necessary to encourage teenagers to think and discuss specifically the idea of them. Whilst they secretly plan world domination, or something a little more really than that idea..” The consideration of anything, or anyone really succeeding in world domination baffled the first year beyond the years he had spent breathing so far.
It wasn’t possible, and he had little faith in any form of comprehensive belief worldwide.
”I wouldn’t say I do, Sir. I saw some hatch once at my Aunt Britta’s beach house. I wasn’t allowed to properly go and look, but I saw them wiggle out of eggs.” He failed to mention that he had ran away pretty quickly when Mama and Britta had offered him a whole bowl of cheese puffs to himself during story time for the babies. The story had been about turtles, too.
”I meant the movement routine. Maybe..” He demonstrated a jaw movement and then a toothy grin, before shrugging. ”I need to think more on that, yes.” That would be the best idea for that whole thing. Why were they even talking about this? Hadn’t the adult wanted him to get inside the suit of armour already??! Much confusion, definitely. Rooney didn’t let it show on his face, but he really was questioning the functionality of this man’s brain. Was Hogwarts his…institution right now? Hm?
”Why? Do you have an idea? I haven’t..had an idea that would work out….” And that was a complete disappointment to him and he wished he could kick himself for it.

Turtles plotting world domination? Now there was a terrifying thought that only encouraged the man that he was RIGHT in thinking Creature studies was a dangerous business. Dangerous...but apparently necessary if the world was at stake. He would stick to his celestial bodies though, thank you very much.
"What do you think the world would be like if it truly was taken over by turtles?" he asked, just a tiny glimmer of genuine curiosity woven in his words. Couldn't possible be any worse than the nightmares he had regarding total feline takeover. Daphne had even sent him a book once, How to Tell If Your Cat Is Plotting to Kill You, and ALL the behaviors exhibited by Medea's felines were indicating that yes...they were. And thus...nightmares happened.
Nothing that a nice hot glass of milk and honey didn't soothe, however. Medea almost always had one ready and waiting for him in the kitchen in anticipation of this as well.
"They hatch from EGGS?" he exclaimed, as if this was the most fascinating revelation in the world at this moment. "Wonder if house elves have ever mistaken chicken eggs for turtle ones..." Turtle egg omelet? Given the fact that their cleaning routine seemed to be mistaken for time to nap - or whatever it was that was keeping them for keeping the castle CLEAN - he really would not put it past the floppy eared things. And he had nothing against house elves. The astronomer was rather fond of them, really. But he did have THINGS against a SERIOUS lack of CLEANLINESS.
Movement routine ah...yes...
Actually...no. That still did not mean much to the man, although he had his share of science fiction novels back in his office with alien species who had beak-like mouths. Perhaps he should refresh his memory there and think of turtles as space aliens. Maybe then, through the gift that was his imagination, he would understand the creatures a little better. Maybe. Or just come up with more fantastical imagery that was far far faaaaaaar from the truth.
"Perhaps....we should start with hair grips, since those were the first example that came to mind," he mused with a bit of finger tapping against his chin. He was suddenly reminded about this whole...suit of armor business...which, given the time on his sundial watch, would probably be best just left undone at this point. There was, obviously, no rubber bouncy ball in the suit and even once the Ravenclaw was IN the suit...he wasn't quite sure how to get him out of it without taking it apart and then putting it all back together.
Therefore...
Mission Aborted.
"Could leave them in the astrophysics laboratory to see if your shelf life theory is correct. If they vanish or not over time."
