Stained Glass Windows It's a known fact that fire and paper isn’t a good combination. The library has therefore always featured a sparse number of torches on the walls to minimize the danger to the books. On test this year the torches have been replaced by enchanted firefly lamps. A good number of stained glass windows grace the walls at regular intervals where the room is connected to the outside wall of the castle to ensure that adequate light comes in. Stretching from floor to ceiling these windows depict famous witches and wizards from history, important historical events and beautifully detailed magical creatures or at least that is what you should see. |
For Brookie. ^_^ Entering the library, Lux made a beeline towards the stain glass windows. She loved sitting in the window seats, and of course her favourite spot was under the mermaid. She had a book series to finish, and a certain former-Gryffindor to tease afterwards. Haha. It was so much fun giving Louis a hard time, that she had to laugh. She was alone, and even if she wasn't Lux wouldn't have cared. People could think she was crazy all they wanted, she loved being herself. Finding the perfect spot, she took a seat and crossed her legs. Time to settle in for a while. |
lala GoT lines FTW :P Quote:
Bypassing the front desk, since she had no reason to stop there when the book she wanted to read was currently hidden in her school bag, over her shoulder, the tiny redhead looked for somewhere she could curl up. Without risk of house elf interruption, or student interruption. She didn’t feel like answering questions right now. Although, as she heard a laugh, she’d narrowed her eyes and looked around the corner to see a familiar Hufflepuff sitting on the floor under the mermaid window. Sansa, flickered in her mind, half-turning to walk away when her blue eyes landed on the book in Lux’s lap. Wait a minute. Someone else who was familiar with those books. It merited asking, and she turned back to step forward. “Valar morghulis,” she said quietly, just to see if she would be understood. |
Quote:
Looking up, she saw that it was Lily's younger sister - Brooklyn. That was her name. Smiling, she made herself more comfortable in her seat. "Valar dohaeris." Hehe. Might as well reply in kind, and hopefully she wasn't butchering it since High Valyrian wasn't exactly her strong suit. Anyway, she was curious now. "So you have read the books? I like them mostly because Dany and dragons!" The dragons were the best part of the series BY FAR. |
Quote:
“Would I have known that if I hadn’t?,” she replied. The phrase, that was. “Of course I’ve read them.” Or, at least, she’d read some of them. She hadn’t gotten very far into the series yet, since Hogwarts sort of prevented her from doing too much reading. Plus, she hadn’t gotten much done over the summer due to the field trip and everything. And the mention of dragons reminded her of that joint lesson last term, and Balerion. She still wished she could have kept the rock dragon, like she had her planet from Astronomy first year. Although Casterly Rock was still at home again. |
Quote:
Anyway, that didn't really matter so much because there was someone Lux could talk to about the books and that was amazing. She loved reading and she loved talking about books, which was why she liked book clubs. Maybe Mr. Kitridge would hold another one; she hoped that would happen! Of course this one would have to go a lot better than the one from Third Year... She didn't even like thinking about that so MOVING ON because otherwise she'd be really sad. "My cat's named Arya, though that's actually just a coincidence." Still cool though. |
Quote:
Even so, she’d stepped closer and even sat down, shifting so her bag was in her lap. The copy of the book she was currently reading hidden inside. She didn’t have to tell her she hadn’t finished all of the books yet after all. She wasn’t going to anyway. There had been an awfully long silence, after all, and it had made her curious. Not curious enough to ask, but just curious. The silence had been broken by the time she’d bothered to wonder about it anyhow. “How is that a coincidence?,” she asked. It seemed straightforward enough to her. “My cat’s Tywin.” At least she didn’t think Lux would think it was a stupid name. Not like Maggie did. |
Quote:
"Well, I named her that before I knew about the books." She had just liked the name at the time, but now she also liked the character. Of course Dany was her favourite because of DRAGONZ. How could she not root for the character who had dragons??? They were almost as amazing as mermaids and Unicorns. But wait... her cat was named Tywin? That was an interesting choice. "So you are a Lanister fan then?" Or did she just like the name? Lux didn't really mind the Lanisters, but she preferred the Starks. They were her favourite of the families. |
Quote:
And it occurred to her she didn’t have an Arya. She had a Sansa. She was sitting in front of her. She had a Ned, and she had plans for a Catelyn. But she didn’t have an Arya. That was going to take some thought, and some observation in order to decide who fit. Not everyone fit in her personal casting after all, and not all had to be people. Lux’s cat could even just stay as Arya. “Hmm?,” she replied, as the Hufflepuff had spoken again. Oh. The Lannisters. Duh, of course she was a fan. As far as she was concerned she was one. “Of course I am,” she said, as if asking why she wouldn’t be. |
Still smiling, Lux gave a small shrug. "I just like the name." It was a nice name, and she had heard it mentioned by someone or seen it in a book. Ariel was another name that she loved, but that was one she felt more fitting for a daughter when she had kids one day in the future. The Lannisters were okay, but Lux didn't think that the characters were very nice people so she wasn't really a fan. "My favourite family is the Starks even though Dany is my favourite character. I like to say that I am Khaleesi." Yeah, she didn't care what Jun said on the matter. You know nothing, Jun Snow. The thought made her laugh to herself. |
I just like the name That was what Lux had said in response to her question. At least she hadn’t said someone else named her cat for her. It showed a bit more creativity than that, but still didn’t answer where she got the name from if it wasn’t Arya Stark. She had to have heard it in order to like it, but then Brooklyn didn’t feel like interrogating. Interrogating wasn’t going to give her an advantage in this case. She wasn’t going to get anything out of knowing exactly why Lux liked the name so much. Therefore, she’d only nodded in response to that part of the conversation. The other revelation proved more useful to her, or at least it proved she wasn’t entirely off in deciding Lux was her Sansa. Hmm. That gave her more ideas, given other things. “You want to be married to a Dothraki Khal?,” she asked. That was what a Khaleesi was, as far as she remembered. It was how Dany had become one. It seemed like an awfully weird thing for a witch to want to be, since she was pretty sure the Dothraki didn’t exist. Not really. |
Quote:
Blinking, Lux wondered where that Khal thing came from. Ewwwwww. She did not want to marry a Khal, she wanted to marry her Lion when she was ready for that kind of thing. THAT wasn't happening any time soon either, or at all if Willa had a say in the matter - which she DIDN'T. "No, I really don't. But I created dragons in class last term, so I am Khaleesi." And no, she didn't care that everyone else had done the same thing, she had made DRAGONS. ...Shame they didn't last for long, but that was besides the point. |
As Lux had responded, Brooklyn got the idea that she didn’t really understand how things worked in the books. It wasn’t dragons that had made Dany a Khaleesi at all, but then, she still hadn’t decided if it was worth pointing that out. She’d tried once, and it had obviously not been understood. She was starting to wonder if the older girl had read the books at all, really. She figured she’d know, if she had. Not been all confused by the correction. Yet none of it had changed her view of the older girl anyhow. She was still Sansa to her. “So did I,” she said, thinking of her Balerion. She still wanted to get him back. All she had to do was find a good rock to cast the spell on, and then figure out how to make it permanent. A rock dragon would be better for Tywin to play with than her planet from first year. “But dragons are what made Dany the Mother of Dragons. Not what made her Khaleesi.” Okay, maybe she did feel the need to try and correct her. Even if she didn’t particularly care if the other girl understood the books right or not. |
Quote:
Brooklyn was talking like she didn't know how someone became a Khaleesi. Lux knew that in the books it was from marrying a Khal. Well, she didn't want to marry a Khal - Bay wasn't one. She just wanted the title. Yep. Being called the Mother of Dragons was pretty cool too though. "I just like the sound of Khaleesi and want to go by it. I'm not going to marry a Khal. I have a boyfriend." And she wanted to marry him when she was ready for that commitment. There was no way that Bay was anything like Dani's husband, because Drogo had been a brute. Lux had never liked him much. |
Quote:
She still thought it was stupid to want to have a title that there had been a reason to have, like how Dany had married Drogo to gain the title of Khaleesi. Obviously Lux didn’t get that. Brooklyn didn’t really care, considering she was queen either way. Lux could call herself whatever she wanted. She just felt like making sure the older girl knew what it meant. “Maybe your boyfriend is a Khal,” she said, just to keep up the argument that there needed to be one for Lux to be Khaleesi. He didn’t have to act like one just to have the title, not if Lux was going to just call herself Khaleesi for no reason. All Brooklyn cared about was that there wasn’t any competition. |
Quote:
Lux made a face. "He is definitely not a Khal. He is a kind and gentle soul." Her boyfriend was brave, but he wasn't violent. He was also respectful and a great person. Clearly she didn't think much of the Dothraki because they weren't nice people on the most part. Taking over cities and plundering them was plain rude. Anyway, she didn't want to argue about this. If she wanted to call herself Khaleesi she was going to. Not as if it harmed anyone and she DID understand the books tyvm. "So who's your favourite character?" |
For anyone :3 Normally Moxley went to the library for napping purposes because how could she not? The conditions were perfect for such things! Today, however, she had an actual book in hand! Yes, history was being made. Meredith Moxley was doing a bit of studying and being an amazing role model while she was at it. Professor of the year right here? Definitely. Sitting under the beautiful dragon stained glass window, the brunette sat curled up in a chair with her brow furrowed in concentration. Those sitting nearby might hear an amused chuckle or little squeak from the woman on occasion as she reacted to the pictures in the book she was reading. Because apparently if Moxley wasn't napping in the library, no one else could either. |

Maggie had to focus. There was this thing called homework she was doing. She HAD to do. And she had to do it properly or else she was going to fall behind in class. Studying was hard okay? And hearing someone giggling from behind one of those book shelves was NOT helping. And yes, she'd tried to ignore it for quite some time now. Not very successfully however. Her potions homework was now surrounded by random doodles. Awesome. "Could you SHUT UP?!" Angry whispering was hard. Also maybe checking WHO it was first might have been a good idea. Instead Maggie had just gotten off her chair in search for the culprit and had hissed at her once she'd found her. Oops. No. Now. The question was if she should stand her ground or grovel. It really depended on Professor Moxley's reaction. So Maggie just bowed her head slightly and added, "With all due respect, professor." Yes. That. |
Quote:
Moxley looked up from her book and raised an eyebrow, her expression unreadable (she'd been working on that, shh). She wasn't really bothered. Actually, she was more amused by the fact that the Slytherin hadn't been smart enough to look at who she was talking to before speaking like that. Not exactly the brightest snake in the snake pit, this one. Still, it had been disrespectful and she was a professor. A professor who was well known and widely loved, at that! Hmph. "Ms. Traulton, I trust you do not go around talking to your professors like that regularly as I know Healer Murdoch and Professor Bellaire are sticklers for the rules. With this in mind, I'll give you a chance to redeem yourself before I take away points." She was generous like that. "Tell me what you know about turtles." Moxley closed the book and stared at the girl expectantly. |
Quote:
Well, Maggie hadn't really expected a positive reaction from the professor. So when she spoke up, the third year kept her head bowed, by now simply hoping that she wasn't in TOO much trouble. Like. Detention would be highly embarrassing. For insulting a professor nonetheless. Yeah. No. "I'm really sorry, professor." Her eyes briefly flicked up to the woman's to see how just how mad she was. Right. Wait.......what???? "Turtles, professor?" ?????????? Like. What? She took a step forward, giving Professor Moxley a highly confused look. Was this a test? Was her knowledge on turtles going to determine whether or not she was going to lose points?? Why turtles?? "May 23 is World Turtle Day." Was she supposed to just list random facts? Why did she even know this??? |

Maggie shrugged, eyes briefly wandering to see if anyone was watching them. Didn't seem like it but better make sure. "I don't know, Professor." What kind of a dumb question was that anyway? Why would it be in July? "Do they hatch in May?" Was this a quiz? Was she going to get graded? What even WAS this?? "Why are you asking about turtles, Professor?" |
Quote:
"Perhaps they do. I suppose I'll have to look into that." Though really, she could just have Maggie do it. Part of her punishment or whatever. Being a teacher was fun! Heh. Flipping open her book, Moxley searched for the page she'd been on when the blonde arrived, RUINING HER GOOD MOOD. ...Or not but she'd be pretending! "I found the most adorable little turtle in this book and I was watching the little guy eat when you arrived. So that is why turtles, Ms. Traulton." |
Quote:
There was some polite smiling going on, too. That.....was probably the weirdest answer to this question ever. She'd been watching a turtle eat. In a book. But pretending to be interested in the same things as people you wanted to impress was one of her specialties so Maggie took a step towards the professor. "Can I see?" The cute little turtle. Eating. |
we can pretend the turtle is eating a strawberry, yes :3 Quote:
"Sure you can. Just look at how the little guy stretches his neck." The brunette grinned and turned the book towards Maggie so she could see the picture. "I was thinking my daughter might like a turtle. I could see her being able to look after one better than say, a crup or something." |
