Default Potions 1

The class is the same with the proper chairs with soft cushions to sit and lean back on, and they are still are charmed to take the most comfortable shape and height once a student is seated. The walls are still a soft, calming blue. There are one big, grey rubbish bin by the door and a white, porcelain washbasin with a tap for those who wants to wash their hands before/after the class and who can't perform 'Aguamenti' charm.

The door is open 15 minutes before the class time. Professor Culloden is sitting at his desk and greets everyone very cheerfully.

OOC: If you are going to RP your characer use the washbasin or the bin, you don't have to take Cosgrach's permission. Just assume he has granted it.

The class has begun, so please do not post your characters late!

Potion progress: Emotional Change Potion
Text Cut: Potion progress
Effect: A half-dark potion that makes the drinker feel one of these emotions: Happiness, sadness, excitement, fear, tenderness, anger.

Ingredients
  • Two sprigs of lovage
  • 4 mistletoe berries
  • 4 measures of fluxweed
  • 2 measures of boomslang skin
  • Ten newt larvae
  • Happiness: 3 Alihotsy leaves
Sadness: A teaspoon of glumbumble treacle
Excitement: Half a handful of ferret fur
Fear: A scoop of black flies
Tenderness: 2 teaspoons of dog saliva
    Anger: 7 hippogrif feathers

Steps
  1. Fill halfway with pure water
  2. Slowly lower your wand as if you're drawing a straight, vertical line with your wand and say Apto pressura (wand movement: straight, vertical line onto the cauldron)
  3. Heat to 100 degree celcius and keep the heat at 100 and ONLY 100 AT ALL TIMES
  4. Chop the lovage well and add it
  5. Wait for 5 seconds
  6. Add the berries right after 5 seconds
  7. Cut the fluxweed leaves in three pieces and add
  8. With a wooden stick, stir once clockwise, once counter clockwise and alternate like that for 7 times: so the total number of stirs is 14
CHECKPOINT: It should be muddy, but not smelly.
  9. Add boomslang skin and wait for 5 minutes
  10. Add the larvae
CHECKPOINT: It should be completely clear like clean water
  11. Happiness: Add 3 Alihotsy leaves and laugh as loudly as you can at a happy memory
Sadness: Think of the saddest moment in your life while adding a teaspoon of glumbumble treacle
Excitement: Sprinkle half a handful of ferret fur and stir it as quickly as you can in the clockwise direction until the fur completely dissipates (usually takes 30-45 seconds)
Fear: Squish a scoop of flies well in the mortar and add it
Tenderness: Gently add 2 teaspoons of dog saliva without any splashes
Anger: Throw 7 hippogrif feathers in as if you're angry at something and they are your relief

Extra notes
  • After completion, it needs to wait for a few minutes to mature.
  • It's a base potion, which can be stored for a year. The emotion to be decided after the creation of the base
  • The antidote is the base, which lifts the effect of the potion, so the person goes back to feeling whatever they were feeling before consumption. However, if a normal person drinks it, it makes them feel completely neutral and therefore confused. A full water glass of antidote is needed for full dose.
  • Full dose is half a water glass in any liquid.
  • Overdose is more than a full water glass in 24 hours. May cause severe emotional changes and/or only one emotion for an indeterminate time. SEEK PROFESSIONAL HELP IMMEDIATELY IN CASE OF AN OVERDOSE.
  • The duration of the potion depends on the brewer, but it's usually between 5 to 10 hours.
  • Colours are:
    Happiness: Bright pink
    Sadness: Grey
    Tenderness: Orange
    Anger: Bright red
    Excitement: Bright yellow
    Fear: White

~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.

Start over?! EEEP! Angel had been so close to finishing her potion. "Go on,'' Adi encouraged. "Pay better attention this time.'' He shuffled back to his workstation. He would be keeping an eye on her and the brewing. Yesh, he would.
... YEAH! Look at that! She added the berries at the correct time! Goody! "Make sure you clean your equipment before you use them, Angel.''
....................

Looky! More notes on the board! Adi read them, tilting his head to the left side. He was still wondering whyyy in the name of Merlin Hippogriff feathers were used for the anger part of the potion. Heh. Anywayyy, now he was trying to decide which emotion he would go with. He supposed happiness, excitement and tenderness were already some of his dominant traits so the Puffer decided to go with...anger. Yeah. Anger.Adi felt fear with his struggle of insecurity enough as it is and sadness... he had encountered that last year during the period of time he fought with AJ so he had had enough of that emotion, thank you very much.

The Hufflepuff found seven Hippogriff feathers and into his cauldron (after getting a sample of the base), doing his best to act as though he was angry and throwing the feathers in will help him feel better. Seriously though, what did anger felt like? Adi didn't really know. Now, Adi filled two vials of the potion, labelled one for Culloden with his name, House and year before vanishing the remainder.

Not a minute too soon! Angel was asking him and Culloden about her potion. The Badger shuffled back over to take a look. "It looks okay. Well done,'' he whispered to her because his classmates were busily giving answers to the question that had just been asked. "What Toby said,'' Adi said in reply and thus answering the question in the process, his hand up. Hehe.

Right, so her potion was actually clear like water. Check. CHECKCHECKCHECK. Professor Culloden spoke the final few steps, and she made notes of how to add the final ingredients. She had a think about what one she wanted to make...

SPOILER!!: Parchment

Emotional Change Potion
Ingredients
Two sprigs of lovage
4 mistletoe berries
4 measures of fluxweed
2 measures of boomslang skin
Ten newt larvae
Happiness: 3 Alihotsy leaves
Sadness: A teaspoon of glumbumble treacle
Excitement: Half a handful of ferret fur
Fear: A scoop of black flies
Tenderness: 2 teaspoons of dog saliva
Anger: 7 hippogrif feathers

Steps
1. Fill halfway with pure water
2. Slowly lower your wand as if you're drawing a straight, vertical line with your wand and say Apto pressura. ("Ap-toh press-soo-rah")

But first, she needed to get a sample of the base. She took a glass vial out, already clean anyway, and filled it with one sample of the base. For later. Then, she decided to try the Excitement potion. So she went to grab the ferret fur, and put it into the potion. Exactly half a handful. Well, half of one of Zhenya's hands. The fur was sprinkled in, and she got her stirrer, cleaned it "Scourgify," and stirred it clockwise, quickly quickly QUICKLYQUICKLYQUIGLEY! What? Quickly. after about 45 seconds, the fur had completely COMPLETELY dissipated. She smiled to herself, removed the wooden stirrer, "Scourgify"-ed it, and retrieved two more glass vials. She scooped some of the Excitement potion into it, got out a marker and wrote 'Excitement' on two of them, the correct two, and 'Base Potion' on the other one. Needed to be labeled.

Now they needed to get rid of their potion, for obvious reasons. "Evanesco," she said, pointing her wand into the cauldron. One second it was almost full of Excitement potion, and the next it was empty. She pointed her wand inside it again and said "Scourgify," to make sure it was clean, and turned off the flame underneath it.

Oh but there was an antidote. That was good. What if someone had slipped her the angry or fear potion? She didn't want to be angry or scared. How might it be? Zhenya raised her hand, "Sir would there have to be different antidotes to all of the potions?" She was sure that was an obvious answer, but perhaps it was just one antidote. "Could you try to give them the opposite potion of what they had used to counteract the effect? For example if someone is given a sadness potion, could you give them a happiness one to neutralise the effect of the sadness one?" She realised, too late, that she was answering his question with more questions, but somewhere in there was her suggestion.

The base was done, complete, ready... and it was perfect - or at least, he thought so.

After getting a couple of samples of the base, one which went into his pocket, Zeke then prepared the emotion he was going infuse into it.

He'd decided on fear, because fear was always a good one. It was interesting to see how people handled fear, and it could be powerful stuff. Very powerful.

Taking a scoop of the flies, Zeke crushed them up with his pestle and mortar, and then added it to his cauldron.

Once all that was done, he took two vials and filled them both. One for himself, and one for Professor Culloden. Regretfully, he did vanish the remainder of his cauldron. Boo. What a waste.

As for the antidote question, he caught onto what others were saying, but didn't have anything of his own to add to conversation.

He'd read them out loud, but none of them was affected by old age like a few terms ago (OR WERE THEY?) so he just chose to be lazy.

"Get a sample of the base first to be used later, then for whatever emotion you want, the instructions are on the board. Once you are finished, get two samples - one for me and one for the homework, and vanish the rest of it." Because he didn't want to be questioned for a semi-dark potion, thank you.

"Don't leave, yet. We'll discuss the antidote." In fact... "How might be the antidote for this potion?"

SPOILER!!: Notes
Ingredients:
Two sprigs of lovage
4 mistletoe berries
4 measures of fluxweed
2 measures of boomslang skin
Ten??] 24 newt larvae silkworm cocoon thingies?

Happiness: 3 Alihotsy leaves
Sadness: A teaspoon of glumbumble treacle
Excitement: Half a handful of ferret fur
Fear: A scoop of black flies
Tenderness: 2 teaspoons of dog saliva
Anger: 7 hippogriff feathers

Steps:
1. Fill halfway with pure water
2. Slowly lower your wand as if you're drawing a straight, vertical line with your wand and say Apto pressura (wand movement: straight, vertical line onto the cauldron)
3. Heat to 100 degree celcius and keep the heat at 100 and ONLY 100 AT ALL TIMES
4. Chop the lovage well and add it
5. Wait for 5 seconds
6. Add the berries right after 5 seconds
7. Cut fluxweed leaves into 3 and add them
8. use wooden stick to stir clockwise then anti clockwise seven times (14 stirs)
-- Should be muddy but not smelly
9. Add boomslang skin and wait for 5 minutes
10. Add the larvae cocoons until it goes clear.
-- It should be clear like water
11. Add alihotsy leaves and laugh looouuud at a happy memory.

Right, a sample of the base. That would be easy, cause she already had that done, and she'd already made sure to clean the phials and everything. So she caaaaaarefully decanted a little of her base potion into it and labelled it with her name.

Okay, next bit. She looked up at the board to see the next step - she already knew she was going to be using the happiness part, because it was the only one that didn't need anything from an animal so she was okay with that. Also she liked it when people were happy. So now she had to choose a happy memory to laugh at..... hm.

Oh! There was that time Brook had tried to follow them up the tree but he'd fallen in the pond and even though their mum was angry at them for letting him try and climb they just couldn't stop laughing cause he'd come out of the pond covered in pond weeds and dripping wet like some sort of disgruntled four year old pond monster... that even made Rusty giggle out loud as she was thinking about it, so she tried to fully envision the memory in her head, and started laughing - giving a conscious effort to laugh as loud as possible, and added three alihotsy leaves to her potion.

As her laughter calmed down she began to take the samples she needed, and thought about Professor Culloden's question... "Is the antidote just the same potion with the opposite effect?" she asked, writing her name, house, year and "happiness!" on two little labels and sticking them to her samples. "But from the same base so that they'd be the same strength cause some people's bases might be stronger than others?" She didn't know if that was true, but she thought maybe her potion wouldn't work well with another person's antidote because they had slightly different ingredients in the base... right?

....

Okay the vanishing the potion thing? She didn't know how to do that. She watched a few of the other students, then picked up her wand and... "Evanesco." She tried to mimic the wand movement that other people were doing, but she'd never tried this spell before, so she wasn't really sure about it, and nothing happened. "Um... can someone help me?" She didn't mind asking for help at all, she just didn't want to disturb anyone who was still taking samples.

Cutty looked down at his potion to check for a scent. He picked up nothing but the thinned out murky chocolate milk like appearance of the potion. He leaned in closer and had one more good whiff, which was interrupted by the redheaded Marshian.

Who wanted to know how the boomslang skin was added. She still had a bit of a squeaky voice, which Cutty found hilarious. "Nar, yer just add it in as is. No need to bother preparin' it." He said trying not to laugh at her still more kiddish voice. "Like this." He said demonstrating by grabbing the boomslang skin and dropping it into his potion. "Now yew try it, Hanover." Cause she was a little red Hanover. Just a little red Hanover.

They had time, at least five minutes before they had to add the larvae. The Culloden had asked a question, though in the meantime and Cutty thought of taking a stab at it whilst Marsha handled boomslanging her potion. He raised his hand and offered, "A trick question, sir. The antidote for a potion like this that would have to negate several effects at once wouldn't exist. Unless as suggested you'd use each of the different emotional effects to negate one another." Was that how they worked or did they compile and layer?

Cutty waited for Culloden's input on his thoughts before he counted out the newt larvae and separated ten individual ones. He looked at the clock and scrapped them into the cauldron with the wooden spoon quickly as his five minutes were up. He watched as the potion reacted. That muddiness now completely gone. He began to remove phials from his bag and one by one cleaned them off with the charm. How many did they need? One for later, one for homework and one for the professor.

"Quite honestly," he said, "I don't know what went wrong." He didn't know how he didn't know, but it must be a very rare mistake or something, because potioneers usually tested some common mistakes to find ways to correct them.

"So, I'll just... vanish it, and you have to start over. You'll get extra time," he added, in case he worried for that.
Brian nodded solemnly, watching with a slightly heavy heart as the potion-gone-wrong was vanished from his cauldron. Well, at least his cauldron hadn't melted like that other person somewhere over on his left. Consciously telling himself not to sigh, he forced a smile and shrugged. "Thanks, Professor. I'm really sorry about wasting your ingredients."

He really was. And about wasting time. His ma always said that time was more precious than money. And since money was used to buy ingredients, he deduced that the time he wasted was a lot more precious than the ingredients. Also, he was pretty sure he had Herbology next period, so he was going to have to do this properly this time. He had a strange feeling that Professor Culloden was highly unlikely to forgive another mishap.

Extra time was something Brian was just a little skeptical about. Did he mean that the extra time lasted a little through his next period or until he was done with the lesson and that Brian could continue brewing until he dismissed the class? He'd go with the latter, so in a bit of a hurry, the young Hufflepuff made his way to the cupboards at the back of the room and collected the ingredients he needed to replace before getting back. Bringing his cauldron over to the taps, he filled it with water until it was about half full and brought it back to the workstation. No time for attempting aguamenti now. Bringing his wand down in a straight line, he did the charm smoothly. "Apto Pressura." And the whole thing was all the easier since he'd actually done it before.

Striking another match, he ignited the fire below his cauldron. And then there was the waiting. He had half a mind to go get more kindling so that he'd have a bigger flame, but it would be harder to control and he decided that it wouldn't be a very good idea. So he settled for watching the temperature creep up slowly until he realised that he could be a lot more efficient.

Brian chopped up the lovage a lot better than the previous time but it wasn't perfectly fine. It would do, though. Checking the temperature, he sighed. Still only 67 degrees. Brian counted four mistletoe berries and set them on the workbench, next to his chopping board. As soon as the temperature reached 100 degrees, he dumped the lovage in and immediately started counting to five elephants as the liquid sloshed about a little. And he dropped the berries in correctly. PHEW.

Cleaning his knife and chopping board, he set to separating the fluxweed leaves from the stem, reducing the heat to his cauldron every now and then to keep the temperature from creeping up. Once he was done with all four measures of fluxweed, he sliced them a little roughly into three pieces. GREAT. It wasn't his finest bit of cutting, but it was getting better. He should probably start cooking over the holidays, but his ma would probably look at him weird and remind him why they had a cook. No matter.

He scourgified his wooden stirrer and went stirring, counting aloud as he went alternating between clockwise and counter-clockwise stirs. One-two, two-two, three-two, four-two, et cetera. In true musician style. He'd counted a lot of bar rests, he knew how to do it. With each stir, his potion got steadily dirtier and dirtier as well as thicker and thicker until at some point it was like he was stirring particularly thick mud. With some difficulty, he finished the last stir and pulled out the stirring rod and sniffed the fumes. NOPE. NO ODOUR.

And that would be his cue to listen in to what the professor man was saying. Oh, they were talking about the antidote. Okay. Brian didn't really have much to say about it, since his thoughts had immediately been voiced out by people around him so he just went back to focusing on the potion.

She was almost finished. As she heard the Professor explain what needed to be done next Hady went about adding these steps into her notes. Gathering her empty vials she used a quick 'scourgify' to ensure that they were clean before collecting the samples of the base potion she needed.

Once that was done she checked over the types of emotions that could be made. With a quick last minute change of heart she decided to go with tenderness. It didn't seem like anyone had chosen that one...at least not that she was able to tell from where her table was. Getting her measuring spoon she cleaned it with another 'scourgify' before very carefully measuring out two teaspoons of dog saliva. Hady took her time gently adding this into her potion making sure that none of it splashed at all. It was an odd ingredient but she understood the need for it really.

Now that she had that finished she got her two other vials and filled them one going into her bag with the vial of the base potion...not before she made sure to clearly label each one though. After she had that done she vanished the remained of her cauldrons contents and cleaned up her workspace.

Her fellow classmates seemed to have the answer down well enough to the last given question she Hady kept silent just taking down a few more quick notes.

They had finished, right? Oops, there's still need one more step. The Korean boy decided to make the happiness potion. Thinking about his happiest memory and laughed at loud, he added 3 Alihosty leaves to his cauldron. And... DONE! He scooped the potion to his vial (that he had cleaned before) and labeled it. Now, he had to vanish the entire potion. Okay... "Evanesco." Then he cleaned the entire equipment and put it on his bag.

But... the class hadn't dismissed yet. There's still something that Culloden wanted to discuss. The antidote.

"Maybe... you use the common antidote potion?" He spoke up as he raised his hand.

Default #3 - Fully caught up, Question for Culloden

Huh, just add it. Marsha watched as Cutty added his own boomslang to his own potion and she nodded her head in understanding. ”Thanks Cutty!” She said with a grin as she turned back around to face her own potion, picked up the two parts of skin and then dropped them in; just like Cutty had. She probably even, maybe copied his attitude and stance while she did it. What? He was funny.

Grinning as she started to wait for five minutes, she looked to the larvae. Ten of them she needed. So, she slowly began to separate the eggs from the gloopy lump they were part of in their ingredients and while making a face counted out the ten that she was going to need when the five minutes were over.

However, as she waited for that she looked around at everyone else who were just coming to the end of their potions. Putting their samples in tubes and such. So, to get ready for that she took out a few of her own bottles and made sure that they were still as clean as they were last time.

Okay, so antidote. Marsha frowned. She didn’t really know much about antidotes, but might as well give it a guess so up her hand went. ”Professor, I was reading a Herbology book and it said that Mandrakes were used a lot in antidotes… would they would to reverse this potion...s?” Was it a single potion with various outcomes or various potions with one main outcome? Hmm. She didn’t really know the answer to that one either.

OH! That was five minutes. So in went the newt larvae and she held her breath. Luckily, she didn’t need to hold it for long as her potion slowly cleared as if… well, by magic! Hehehe. She slowly let out her breath as it turned to look glass like, almost like the full reflection of a dead calm, clear lake. Not like the black lake here at school though… Nope.

Grinning over her shoulder at Cutty, she smiled wide at him. ”Thank you! It worked.” Or, at least from what she could tell it worked. There was a distinct difference but the Professor would be the one to tell her that at a later point.

Now, she needed to collect a sample of the base potion, so she did that carefully first while she decided which of the emotion she wanted to try and replicate. Then she was ready to tackle the last part. Changing it from a base potion that looked like water into a potion that would do something! Exciting. She loved potions.

Ferret fur.

Right. She took a handful and then dropped some of it back into the container. There, that should do it. She then transferred the fur from her right hand to her left hand and picked up the stirrer with her right now.

Ready. Set. GO!

She sprinkled the fur slightly awkwardly with her left hand as she began to stir the potion with her right. Clockwise, as fast as she could, without spilling the actual potion. Once she had let all of the fur into the potion she rested her hand on the desk as she continued to stir until all of the fur had dissolved. It took her potion 42 seconds, but she hoped that didn’t mean she had done anything wrong. She glanced at the temperature and it was still at 100 degrees, so she figured it must be okay. Right?

She carefully decanted another two vials and marked them with her name, house, class and the type of potion she had chosen. There! She was done.

However, she, like Rusty was reallly unsure how the whole emptying of the cauldron went. Again, it was something that she was practicing each time she had class, but had never managed to get it right. Maybe today would be the first. ”Evan-Esko.” Nope, not at thing.

”Professor, is this potion safe to put down the sink, or can you vanish it for me? I can’t get the spell to work for me.” Siiighhh.

He was really scared, wasn't he? Cosgrach observed his potion some more, and said "No, all you have to do is stirring quickly counter clockwise for 30 seconds, and only 30 seconds." It didn't sound too hard, did it?

"Well done." He smiled at him. See, he could do it.

"It's good," he said, and turned to the people who answered.

He... didn't know, but raised his hand anyway, and answered the question with another question. "Sir, would the antidote need to be specially brewed? Like... because the ingredients are different for each emotion, so maybe you even take the base, and work from that to make, like... an Emotional Change-BACK Potion, specific to the one that you're getting the antidote for?" Since that makes a sadness potion, maybe that could cure a person of their happiness." Well, it was a thought anyway.

"Um... can someone help me?" Cosgrach listened to all and nodded at them after they were done explaining their ideas. He decided to address the wrong ones first and explain why they were wrong. However, before all, he quickly vanished Rowan and Marsha's cauldrons.

"It's not tea, Zahra," he said, "because tea usually isn't magical. And if it is, it's usually not called tea." So, tea helped with some things, but not with a potion.

"A common antidote and Mandrakes wouldn't work, Jackson and MArsha," he said as he turned to the boy, then the girl, "because this isn't a poison. We only want to reverse it, because it's a nuisance - especially the negative emotions." Were they satisfied?

"All of the people who suggested some sort of opposition potions: the six emotions this one creates doesn't exactly match as opposites, except for happiness and sadness. Besides, like Rowan said, if you use two different bases, it might confuse a person and tire them before the stronger potion wins the fight. And the people who suggested different potions for every emotion - please note that the base for all is the same." Which brought them to what Sophie had suggested, and he smiled at her. Only she guessed it right, if he didn't miss any other answer.

"The base, if you analyse it closely, makes a person open to any emotion, then we add the determining ingredients. So, with that in mind, we'd need one antidote that lifts the effect of an emotion, which would be... the base itself, again." Plot twist! "The base is the antidote." That was the reason they got a vial of it. "The base lifts the effect of the potion, so the person goes back to feeling whatever they were feeling before consumption. However, if a normal person drinks it, it makes them feel completely neutral - or empty, as some might call it - and therefore confused." EXCITING, wasn't it? HEHEHE.

He checked his watch. "All of the potions must have matured by now..." he muttered, sat down on his chair and tapped the blackboard with his wand to reveal the final notes.

- in the blink of an eye, Zahra's potion PUFFED like a mushroom cloud. Apparently, it had to mature a little too. THAT was what she got for both.

Cosgrach rose to his feet, with wand in hand. He couldn't see if she got it on her face because of the smoke yet, but if she did, it would be a funny sight: a completely black face with hair standing on end for a full day (however, maybe it might not be a good sight for the daughter of the FORMER minister. It wasn't exactly dangerous - except for making the skin black and the hairs stand on end - but he still wanted to vanish -

Too late, indeed, to do anything at all.

The potion EXPLODED! right after the girl's mushroom cloud. It melted down the materials it got on A LITTLE and it'd cause harmless, painless rash on the skin if anyone was hit...

Cosgrach had already got up to Zahra's potion, but upon the second EXPLOSION, he forgot all about her and walked at light speed until a safe distance with his wand already in his hand. LUCKILY for him, his desk was too far from the cauldron to be hit. The next moment, the potion was vanished before it could cause more damage.

If looks could kill, Dante would have been dead now.

"People hit with it, don't worry. The rash will heal in a week without a damage. Just keep it clean," he said, loud enough for everyone to hear. His eyes were still on Dante, however.

He would explain, wouldn't he?

OOC: Thank you for coming, I hope you enjoyed it! You have exactly 15 hours from this post to finish brewing. I won't lock the thread immediately after, but I won't grade the posts.

please don't let me be miunderstood

A quick look at her working station told her that her potion was almost complete. Onto the final step! The actual EMOTIONS part.

Leah already knew what emotion she was choosing. Probably not happiness. Who needed a potion to be HAPPY anyway? Same for excitement. She did not really want to experience fear OR anger. Although tenderness would be useful, the thought of creating a potion just for that seemed - well, boring. So, sadness it was. The Hufflepuff surely needed a bit of sadness in her happy happy life.

She had her glumbumble treacle prepared. Now she needed the saddest moment in her life. And a sample of the base. Leah cleaned a phial and her ladle, then scooped her potion in. She stored it safely inside her bag, though she was not sure why they needed it.

As a rarely sad person, the Fifth Year had to think really hard for her sad memory. Her thoughts landed on the day when she heard that her grandmother had died. She cried a lot. Her independent, not very emotional mum cried a lot. Leah still remembered the warmth of her grandmother's hug and consoling voice. It was a deep sadness that was... difficult to describe. She added her teaspoon of treacle quickly to get this over with.

Then, she scooped out two more samples of the potion and placed them away from her base sample to not get herself confused. "Evanesco," she vanished the leftover contents of her cauldron. She simply listened to the discussion about antidotes as she cleaned up her working station because she had NO IDEA what it would be.

Ohhh, it was the base itself. That was quite intriguing. Maybe she should have gotten more samples of it JUST in case. Upon reading the final notes revealed on the Blackboard, Leah held one of her samples up to check its color. It was a dark shade of grey, which was a good thing? A smile appeared on her face but then -

Explosions happened. Before she knew it, she was hit by a Slytherin boy's potion in the arm. A rash appeared on the spot, but surprisingly, it did not hurt at all. Or cause any actual harm. So yeah that was that. Was class even dismissed? The Professor looked really mad. Maybe he needed a Happiness Potion himself. She packed her bag cautiously. "Thank you Professor Culloden. Uh bye!" she gave him a smile and walked out of the classroom.

Now that her potion was all done, she just needed to get a couple of samples of the base. No problem. AJ scooped some up into two clean vials. It was pretty clean that you only needed one sample of the base BUT what if she dropped one? There was no way she wanted to start completely over like her sister had to. That would suck majorly. Instead AJ was prepared. She didn't have any leads about the question that was asked so she kept quiet while the others put their two cents in.

What potion to make? Being angry didn't sound at all like fun. AJ was all ready a very excitable person. If she chose that one would it mean she would be TOO excited? Man, that sounded like a good time. Deciding on that one, she looked to see what she needed to do with her potion.

Ferret fur was needed. What an odd ingredient. The lion sprinkled half a handful of ferret fur and began to stir it with a clean spoon as quickly as she could in a clockwise motion. AJ kept stirring until all the fur was soaked in.

Two more clean vials were filled with her excitement potion. She was just about to vanish the remaining liquid in her cauldron when an explosion happened. Luckily nothing had splattered on her. Keeping a rash clean for a week sounded like a lot of responsibility and AJ got dirty a lot.

Kace heard the professor explain the base of the potion was the antidote. Now that was interesting. He would have never thought of that. He made a little notes of that and now his potion should be mature according to Culloden. Kace checked his and he saw his was bright pink since he chose the happiness potion. Well done Lecium. At least you didn't have an explosion right? Well duh every thing you take can have the potential for overdose. That was old news Professor C. Speaking of explosions as soon as Kace was getting packed up, he noticed and heard a big explosion for the little slytherin's cauldron.

Blooooddddyyyyyy Merrrrrlinnnnnnn

That was a big one. He even saw some of his potion hit his notebook paper but luckily not on his skin to require a rash. He tried to wipe off his potion from his notes and then once that was done and he cleaned off his workspace with a wave of his wand, he smiled and waved goodbye. "Bye Professor Culloden.." and he handed him his sample and then left with his other vial.

Angel smiled as the Professor said it was right, she was feeling funny at the minute. "Professor! can I have a word with you after the lesson." Angel was still trying to figure out what the smile was about before the start of the lesson.

Angel got a sample of the base as soon as the potion was finished, making sure to use a clean vial and then she looked at the moods which one should she do.

Angel then suddenly added three Alihotsy leaves and then she thought of a happy memory and smiled before laughing into the potion, this was epic. She then got two more vials and cleaned them before putting two samples of her happiness potion in them. Now just to wait and see if she could speak to the Professor.

~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.

More notes! Adi scribbled alllll the information from the board. It was very interesting to see whom he would be doing this homework with. Anger, anger... Heh. Anywhooo, once his notes were done being made, he pushed all his writing equipment back into his bag- GREAT YUMMY CHOCOLATE FROGS! What was THAT?

The Puffer whipped around at the sound. Ohh. An explosion from Dante's cauldron apparently. Luckily, none had splashed on Adi. PHEW! And Culloden seemed to have everything under control with that look of daggers... heh.

"Uh, bye, Professor. Don't kill him.'' Adi placed his sample on the man's desk before exiting the classroom to catch up with Kcae and Leah.

Colours are:

Happiness: Bright pink
Sadness: Grey
Tenderness: Orange
Anger: Bright red
Excitement: Bright yellow
Fear: White

She was simply sitting there, watching the instructions grow. It wasn’t that she wasn’t planning on working on the potion it was more that the concept of the potion was intriguing her. Really, she could make people feel utterly insane with a simply drop of sadness and fear…or anger and tenderness what would happen?

“Scourgify” she muttered she finally moved her wand in a sinuous S motion as she cleaned her cauldron out. “Aquamenti” she cast filling the cauldron until it was halfway full of pure water.

After the water she moved on to the next step. Slowly lowering her wand as if she were drawing a straight vertical line she cast “Apto Pressura” and then lit the fire below her cauldron. Waiting until it reached 100 degrees celcius and kept her eye on the temperature as she moved on to chop her lovage.

“Scourgify” she muttered as she cleaned off her knife and began to chop her lovage sprigs well before adding them into the cauldron…and again with the waiting but five seconds was no time at all unless it was in a classroom waiting for the bell to ring or for her potion to be ready. As soon as five seconds were up she added in her mistletoe berries into the concoction.

WOW so much information!! Rusty capped the samples and put them on her desk, then sat down to scribble notes as fast as she could. She got distracted for a brief moment thinking about whether they'd let her use a biro and paper instead of the inky quills that still managed to get ink all over her... but she eventually got back to noting things down from the blackboard.

Now... colours... well... her potion was pink, which was awesome, but it wasn't particularly BRIGHT pink. Just a normal pink colour. She wondered if that was because she'd used the cocoons instead of the larvae, and if she could find something that she could add alongside the cocoons so that they did the things the larvae should have done. That's how you replaced egg or things in recipes, by finding a mixture of ingredients that did the same thing, so surely it should work in potions... maybe she'd try and find out about that some day.

ALL DONE!! "THANKS Professor!" For making it all cool and vegan for her so she could still join in. She cleaned up the rest of her stuff and took off.

His potion seemed do be doing alright. At least the color was relatively clear as described and Culloden hadn't noticed anything off during his surveying of the room. If he heard correctly, Angel wasn't having the same luck but Adi was already taking the effort to make sure she managed to fix it. If his bestie could help him in potions as much as he apparently had by his OWL score, his girlfriend was in good hands.

Noticing something more added to the board as Culloden spoke up to the class once more, Benny pulled his attention away from his two friends and to the board. It was there at it was written what would be needed to turn the potion into a work that changed people's emotions and not all for the better. He himself had experience with effects like that from the gift the potions master had given him a year and a half ago.

The sixth year proceeded to follow the last instructions to the letter as he debated on what potions effect he would do. First, he took a sample of the potion as it was, capping it and securing it for later use. The antidote it seemed as Culloden continued. Now he just had to add SOMETHING to his potion to finish it. Sadness and fear was out as he already had enough of that. Tenderness was weird so he wasn't sure of adding dog saliva to his work And excitement reminded him of the other potion which had nearly gotten him in serious trouble.

So that left happiness and anger.

Alihotsy leaves and hippogriff feathers.

Nope...he couldn't do it. Benny couldn't see himself as really angry. It just wasn't him and bound to be awkward if it turned out they were to be trying out these potions for homework. So he gathered the 3 Alihotsy leaves and added them to the potion as he thought on something happy, laughing as instructed while he did so. Hopefully it was enough. Taking the two samples, he capped them securely and added them to the base sample before taking out his wand once more "Evanesco!" The rest of his work was disposed off as he listened to whatever else was said around him.

Alas when Culloden spoke of matured potions, Ben glanced at his bottled samples. Two bright pink liquids were there meaning his happiness potion was done...and correctly of which he was relieved. However it was short-lived by not one but two potions reacted in explosions, one of them near him. So near, he felt something and upon inspection noticed first drops on his workstation and then a splattering of rash on the skin above his left wrist.

Great....just great.

The Gryffindor cleaned up his area again and packed up. He'd have to remember to keep an eye on his hand then. Hopefully it wouldn't be too bad. "Good day Professor," he said, taking his leave before heading out after Adi.

SPOILER!!: notes

Effect: A half-dark potion that makes the drinker feel one of these emotions: Happiness, sadness, excitement, fear, tenderness, anger.

Ingredients

Two sprigs of lovage
4 mistletoe berries
4 measures of fluxweed
2 measures of boomslang skin
Ten newt larvae

Happiness: 3 Alihotsy leaves
Sadness: A teaspoon of glumbumble treacle
Excitement: Half a handful of ferret fur
Fear: A scoop of black flies
Tenderness: 2 teaspoons of dog saliva
Anger: 7 hippogrif feathers

Steps
1. Fill halfway with pure water
2. Slowly lower your wand as if you're drawing a straight, vertical line with your wand and say Apto pressura. ("Ap-toh press-soo-rah")

Extra notes

After completion, it needs to wait for a few minutes to mature.
It's a base potion, which can be stored for a year. The emotion to be decided after the creation of the base
The antidote is the base, which lifts the effect of the potion, so the person goes back to feeling whatever they were feeling before consumption. However, if a normal person drinks it, it makes them feel completely neutral and therefore confused. A full water glass of antidote is needed for full dose.
Full dose is half a water glass in any liquid.
Overdose is more than a full water glass in 24 hours. May cause severe emotional changes and/or only one emotion for an indeterminate time. SEEK PROFESSIONAL HELP IMMEDIATELY IN CASE OF AN OVERDOSE.
The duration of the potion depends on the brewer, but it's usually between 5 to 10 hours.
Colours are:

Happiness: Bright pink
Sadness: Grey
Tenderness: Orange
Anger: Bright red
Excitement: Bright yellow
Fear: White

”Scourgify” she cleaned her knife once more before moving on and cutting her fluxweed leaves into three pieces. Adding it into the potion she then took her wooded stirring stick and cleaned it as well before lowering it into the concoction and beginning to stir.

One stir clockwise, one stir counter clockwise…and she repeated the process alternating the direction of her stir ever time for seven stirs clockwise and seven counter clockwise.

Looking down at the now muddy concoction she just shrugged. Well, at least it didn’t smell. Then the boomslang skin she added it into the concoction and waited five minutes before adding the new larvae into the potion.

Okay.

Now all she needed was to add whatever emotion she wanted people to feel…hey? She was going to need some help with the Patronus stuff later right? After all she wanted an upper hand with her training.

Glancing down at the clear water like potion she just grinned. Now it was time for the emotions. Adding in the 3 alihosty leaves she proceeded to laugh loudly and almost villainously for a few minutes. Really, this potion was going to be awesome. The potion changed colors almost immediately after she had completed the process…the color was pink. Nauseatingly bright pink.

Oh Merlin, the potion EXPLODED again. He had a good streak going on with potions that did not explode. And this time he did not even mean for it to happen. It just did. He even thought he was doing the potion correctly minus not paying attention to the color.

Oops.

"I would like to point out i had no intention of blowing up any potions today. I even thought i was going it....not terribly" Dante said shrugging. "Shows what i know" It did hit him a little on his hands. But Professor C said it would only be a rash and he could handle that.

Though maybe he should just stick to potions that are meant to blow up or fireworks. Then he would never have a problem.

It was time to decide on an emotion. Grayson'sblue eyes stayed glued to the board, trying to balance the pros and cons of each of the emotions. Obviously, they were all based on how they could benefit him and, if he gave them to someone, which emotion he'd be most interested in seeing.

The answer? Anger.

It was simple: people do weird things when they're angry. Do things they probably wouldn't do in their normal state. Kinda interesting, wasn't it? Something else that was interesting was the way each of the methods of adding the last ingredients reflected the emotion they were for. Yeah. Interesting.

ANYWAYS. Onto the bit about anger. Dude made sure to grab a clean vial and measure out a sample of the base. Needed that and all. Grayson grabbed hold of seven hippogriff feathers and tried to channel as much anger as he could. Wasn't hard or anything, since he only had to think about situations that made him really angry and made him swear a lot more than usual. And this one hadn't happened too long ago.

Channelling as much of that anger as he could, the Slytherin threw the feathers into the cauldron. There. DONE.

Breathing heavily, the boy hardly had time to answer the question as he tried to calm his emotions. He just stayed silent for now, jotting down some notes every now and then.

The potion should be done? Grayson glanced over at his cauldron, slightly relieved to see the bright red liquid within. Two samples were measured out: one for him and the other for Culloden. He wrote his name on the label, cleaned up his area and went to--

HOLY FREAKING MERLIN WHAT THE ACTUAL--

Explosion. Potions class seemed to be full of it. Looooool! Was it surprising that Dante was behind it? Not at all. Dude had exploded a potion or whatever back in the day. Snorting at the young boy's comment, the older Slytherin dropped his sample off, said his goodbye to Culloden and silently wished that Dante would come out of there alive.

So Zahra's Potion went where MOST of her Potions through the years went: wherever vanished stuff ended up. At least she didn't BLOW HERS UP this time. ....Barrigton. Amateur. Hah.

She raised BOTH hands up to try and reach the ends of her hair, that was standing STRAIGHT UP in the COOLEST MOHAWK of all times.

"Professor... the COOLEST junk happens to me when I'm with you." SO YOU KNOW, HIGH FIVE FOR THAT! She went after him, offering her hand. Heck, as much fun as they were having, SHE MIGHT JUST GO IN FOR THE HUG! WOO POTIONS!

The BASE was the antidote??? Plot twist!! But... it DID make a lot of sense and Lux actually had to smack her head because DUH. Of course it was the obvious solution now that she thought about it.

This was why Culloden was the potions GENIUS.

Placing her notebook into her bag, Lux jumped - SWEET CIRCE, WHAT WAS THAT?? Heart hammering, she saw that one of the potions had exploded. Well, that was something you didn't see every day. Amused, she finished packing up before heading to the door. "Thanks for the awesome lesson, Professor. You totally stumped me at the end." Hehe, she had been so silly.

With a wave she left the room.

..... That was a lot to take in. And Zander was trying his absolute hardest to copy everything down as quickly and thoroughly as he could. Thank Merlin for the blackboard, because he missed the majority of what Culloden was saying on account of trying to remember specific phrases to write down on his parchment. This was hard, okay? It wasn't just him. Everyone else had to have been struggling too.

Plus, he was so caught up in all the writing that he didn't even notice the bubbling and wonky potions until he heard an EXPLOSION O_________O!!

Welp. Thank Merlin it wasn't him, right? Right.

He just felt sorry for that poor kid who had to deal with an angry Culloden. 'Cause despite everything Sophie Brown had tried to say to convince Zander otherwise, the Gryffindor knew Professor Potions could be totally evil when he wanted to be. Especially after an explosion like that. FORTUNATELY, Zander hadn't been near the explosion so he didn't have to worry about any of that rash stuff, so instead he just packed all his things and got ready to leave. See ya, wouldn't wanna be ya? Yeah. That.

So the base was in, fact, finally complete. Taking flasks, she collected her base samples and set them aside.

Now for decision time. Looking over at Henric, Ilia decided that she would make a Happiness potion. She thought of her cousin Freyr telling her jokes last year and she smiled. It was time, she took the Alihotsy leaves and began to laugh " A HAHA HAHA HAHA!" somewhat hysterically as she added them. The potion turned and she collected her samples in her remaining flasks and "Evanesco" vanished the rest as instructed. She neatly labeled her samples as "Base Emotional Change Potion" and "Happiness in a flask, Ilia" for the others.

What would the antidote be? She honestly wasn't certain of that answer and simply listened to her fellow classmates reply. A variety of theories, but she did not have one of her own and would wait for the professor to enlighten them.

When he did, she was surprised but it made a lot of sense , especially as to why they needed base samples. She finished writing her notes and packed up her satchel. The professor was almost done speaking but then there was a boom , which jolted Ilia to her feet. WHAT WAS THAT!? A potion gone bad, luckily her position in the back near a wall seemed far enough away that she didn't get splashed. She looked to see who caused it and mentally noted not to sit by them, certainly NOT in this class.

At least everyone would be ok and those splashed wouldn't have any serious side effects. She gathered her samples of bright pink and clear potions and filed out of the classroom. She smiled up at the aggravated looking professor and nodded her head politely to him. "Thank you for the enlightening lesson." She then followed the others out and off to the next class.
