The first you see is the fishing gear hanging on pins left of the doorway. The librarian is a bit fishing obsessed so he has brought some fishing equipment if time lets him explore the great lake’s fishing possibilities. The next thing you feel is cozy warmth emanating from the roaring fire place nearby. Remembering the chilliness of the halls and rooms in the castle from his years here Mr Kitridge has taken steps to see too that at least one place is warm and comfortable. In the center of the office you see what should be a desk under all the stuff currently placed on it like charts, crammers, stacks of books, an odd telescope or crystal ball and last but not least a big bowl of candy. Behind the desk, a large comfy chair with a pillow in it is situated.
Hanging on the walls around the office are portraits of former notable librarians like Madam Pince, Madam Rowena, Angela Kohan, David Kapoor and Madam Donovan. The collection of portraits/photographs is completed with some Kitridges who've been successful in some way or other through the course of time. No office of a librarian is complete without a curvy s-shaped bookshelf.
OCC: I will not have an arrival thread so please don't clog up the thread with 'waiting to enter' posts. Have your character knock on the door and then wait for Mr Kitridge to allow you to enter or to come back later. If you have any questions or want to set up a meeting don't hesitate to PM or VM me.

Gabriel had many, MANY things to discuss with his Head of House. Not HOUSE things, ironically...but their new writing venture this term. He was determined to make it a success...and with that in mind, he'd made his way to the library.
Bypassing the gaggle of girls at the front desk...Gabe went straight to Mr. Kitridge's office door and knocked. Someone was popular this term...

Busy was the right word for the day. Leo felt like he had been up on his feet and doing stuff around the library since before breakfast. He had taken note of the girl's waiting for his assistance at the front desk but he desperately needed a break, some coffee and a sandwich before he went out to help them. Thus he bypassed the front desk and headed straight for his office, where he found Gabriel standing on his doorstep. Pulling a hand through his curly mop of hair he said a smile pursing his lip albeit a weak one. "Good day Gabriel, care to come in for a sandwich?" unlocking his door with the use of his wand he waited for the prefect's answer.

Oh, Mr. Kitridge hadn't been in...as he'd just appeared from behind. Well...it was early. So...that was understandable. Gabriel hadn't considered him possibly being busy.
".......Yes, sir. Thank you." Was now a bad time?

Opening the door Leo gestured for Gabriel to step in ahead of him. He followed behind the senior eagle closing the door behind them. His white kneazle Madonna could be seen as they headed inside, perched ontop of his Leo's desk sleeping. Leo went over and gently stroked her behind the ears before he got to work making some roast beef sandwiches in his little improvised kitchen.
Plating the sandwiches he gestured for Gabriel to take a seat in one of the plushy armed chairs that had a side table in between them. Pouring himself a cup of coffee he asked "Would you like tea or apple juice with the sandwich Gabe?"

He could talk to KITRIDGE about this. No need to bother Professor Dakest yet. Nope. No need. This was a Head of House thing. Because while, yes, Dakest was an Auror, Kitridge was the one tasked with handling all these questions and suggestions and thing.
And if Benzi mucked things up it wouldn't be too bad in front of his Head of House. Yes.
He knocked three times on the door, adjusted his bag over his shoulder and waited.

Fixing a cup of tea for Gabriel, Leo catered it and his own coffee mug over to the side table as he took a seat in the plush chair opposite Gabriel. Taking a sip from his long awaited coffee he nodded thoughtfully. "I wondered when you’d show up. It’s been quite a few years since we last had an active Quill newspaper. After enjoying a nice lunch in Cassie's company Leo had worked tirelessly for a few hours assisting students with this or that around the library. He had dusted off some shelves and had even had time to re-shelf the bookcases closest to the Stained Glass Windows. He was heading back to make himself a glass of well earned lemonade in his office where he ran into Eden on his doorstop. "Afternoon Eden, want to come in for a glass of cold lemonade?" Leo queried as he unlocked his door with the use of his wand.

"I feel well prepared." Thanks in part to all the volunteer work he'd done over summer break. "...and I'm confident in the writers I've asked. So, it's making me feel better about this whole thing."

"Yes please sir," Benzi nodded, and followed his head of house inside the office. There would really be no other reason for him to be here otherwise. Trying to think up those other reasons as he closed the door, he figured he'd come here too if there was a house emergency of sorts. Though, then he'd probably be a bit more animated.

"Hello, Mr. Kitridge." The smile remained in tact upon seeing the Librarian answer the door to his office. Peeking around the man, who seemed somehow smaller to Cutty the snake could see the slight mess of which Mr. Kitridge spoke. When Mr. Kitridge turned on his heels Cutty followed in shutting the door behnd himself.
"Do you remember what they were called?" If Mr. Kitridge had thought of accio'ing the books, although perhaps it slipped his mind as he seemed to be quite focused on their whereabouts, shouting Accio books in a library with no clear idea of which books exactly was not a good idea. They'd have to know their specific names in order for it to be effective and not disastrous.

Moving over to his little improvised kitchen he got two glasses and the big bottle of lemonade. Sitting down in one of the plush chairs to the side of his desk he gestured for Eden to take the other. Pouring lemonade into a glass for the senior eagle Leo asked. "What brings you to my office? Do you need a book recommendation?"
Eden chuckled a little before sweeping into his office and having a seat. "It tastes...very similar? I can't actually think of how it tastes differently..it kind of tastes..smoother? And it's pink. So. You know." Eh, if you liked pink, it was cool. Eden was pretty neutral for the color. And if she could read Mr. Kitridge's thoughts, she would have agreed with the lemonade tasting. How fun?
"Glad to hear you're good, sir." Mr. Kitridge was such a kind soul. Eden was glad he was the head of house. "And I'm...okay right now. I could be better." But she still wasn't sure what aaaallll she wanted to tell her head of house. She certainly wouldn't delve into her personal life--that was more therapy work than the librarian probably cared to involve himself in.
But they came to the subject on her visit. "Well, I could always use one of those--but I mostly came because--well--I'm not sure if you noticed but--at the feast I--" she was stuttering nervously. "I kind of was...really rude to Gabriel and--I just wanted to tell you that it wasn't me being mean on purpose--I mean, it was on purpose--at the time--but I just have a lot going on and--" Sigh. gkhtrughritughiurghihgitghtuigh

It pleased Leo very much to hear as he sipped on his tea that Gabriel had really thought things through and why he had chosen those students that he had done to join the writing team. It was a relief that this wasn’t just something that had risen out of the spur of the moment and that there was some real thought and planning behind it. "I'm glad to hear that you feel prepared and up to the challenge of taking on everything. Don't be afraid to ask for help if you come to realize you need it. It is what good bosses and people in any kind of power position do." Its what he did.
"I think it's good that you chose people to write for the paper not just for your friendship with them or because they are your sister's friends, but because you believe that they will be an asset to the team and will write good articles." Leo said thoughtfully. That’s what it came down to eventually anyway. The quill wouldn’t be able to become popular again if those who wrote for it didn’t produce good read worthy articles.
"Use the experience you've gotten from writing for the yearbook. It will probably help you overcome any obstacles you might come across in interviews and such. Professor Quigley and I will act as the quill staff advisors." Leo finished off. A task they had been appointed by Headmistress Truebridge.
Biting into his sandwich a little more aggressively Leo was quiet for several minutes. When he swallowed down his last bite he asked "Do you have any questions you want to ask me Gabe? How is life outside of academics? Are you still together with Coral-Bay?"

Lifting up books and putting them down in search for the inventory list Leo asked with a glance over the senior snake boy "I suppose you didn’t come here to just chat and help me look for books Cutty. Did you have something specific on your mind?" Not that, Leo didn’t appreciate any help he could get.

“Interesting,” Leo said. "I'd have to try some pink lemonade sometime. Maybe the house elves know how to make some." He pondered thoughtfully. But it was something he’d investigate at another time.
Pouring up a glass of cold lemonade for himself, he took a long, big sip from his glass. Eden began telling him the reason for her visit and then she clammed up as if she was afraid of something. Choosing his words carefully Leo responded softly "Eden, you know you can tell me anything. I'm your head of house. You're supposed to be able to come to me with your woes and troubles. I can only help you if I know what’s going on or what is wrong. But if you don’t feel comfortable telling me then that’s okay too."
Nodding Leo said quietly. "Yes, I heard about that little incident at the feast table. But I also heard that you apologised to Gabriel. So what is it that is troubling you? That Gabriel didn’t know the back story?"

The boy quickly cut to the chase and brought up the reason for his visit. Nodding Leo said "I think I might have skimmed through it briefly. Your mother included a copy of them in the letter she sent me if i recall correctly. What do you want discuss about your OWL scores? What subjects I think you should continue taking or dropping?" It was a though question to answer given that Leo didn't know what Benzi planned to work with after graduation. But they'd get to that when he got to see the scores.
"I do, but mine's no sweetheart," he grumbled, eyeing the feline warily. "She's technically my sister's.. you'll see her next year I reckon," he added with a shrug, then paused thoughtfully. And that was enough about Suri, yes. He was already dreading it. Hogwarts was hectic and weird enough without worrying his sister was going to fall to her death while trying to jump the moving staircases, or go and feed the giant squid some leftovers because "poor thing does no one go talk to him?"
ANYWAYS.

The quill wouldn’t be able to become popular again if those who wrote for it didn’t prodfreneticuce good read worthy articles.
Are you still together with Coral-Bay?"
.

If it wasn't obvious, Gabe was extremely uncomfortable with this sudden turn in questioning.
...and the mention of Coral Bay.....made him feel even more peculiar. He was definitely angry at her...even though he had zero right to be. Just....a lot had happened in a short span of time...and she wasn't here.
Drawing from all he'd been taught over the summer, the Ravenclaw cleared his throat, sat up a bit straighter,...and adjusted his tie. Learned habits. Though odd, they did help Gabe in recentering himself. Made him feel more professional...which was ironic since his cheeks were redder than cherries. The almost obscene blushing did NOT look professional.
"No, sir. I have no further questions." There was a brief awkward pause (on Gabe's end, anyway), which had been covered up with tea-drinking. Hydration was important....or so he'd read. Yes, that was a cheap excuse. "As for Coral and myself, we've separated for academic reasons."
He tried not to sound (and look) too disappointed at the entire situation...but it was difficult. Gabe didn't get close to a lot of people.

Shaking his head as Cutty joined him in the mess known as his office he said "That's the thing. I don't remember what they're called and I've lost the list somewhere beneath all the book piles." Carefully stepping over a few books he continued "They're supposed to be about grounds keeping and maintaining gardens and grounds or something similar. Did you have something specific on your mind?" Not that, Leo didn’t appreciate any help he could get.
Cutty untucked a chair, or more like turned it so as to sit in it, but instead of sitting he placed his school bag in it and began to help Mr. Kitridge navigate the sea of tomes he'd created. He'd never seen the man this haphazard. Was everything alright with Professor Morgan?
"I'm sure he would. I would if I were new to a job. Anything to help me do my job better and set me apart, yer know." It sounded like a nice surprise, really. As if Mr. McLaren wasn't expecting the books at all. Following suit, Cutty began to re-stack a tower of books as Mr. Kitridge had done being on the look out for any loose leaves of parchment.
"I did, Mr. Kitridge, booht I don't mind helpin' yer whilst I'm at it." He said, beginning with another stack having neatly aligned the first one he'd looked through against the desk. "I've been reading some books from the muggle section. Fer fun, yer know. And I found some that appear to be a set aboutter spy called James Bond, boooooht...I don't think our set is complete as I can't find the one called Dr. No." Once finished searching through the stack he had, Cutty also aligned this stack neatly against the Librarian's desk in order to keep them out of the walk ways.
"I came back a few times just to see if someone had checked it out, booht I never ran into it. Could yer order it from another library?" Or maybe order a fresh copy if they ever had it in the first place.
“Interesting,” Leo said. "I'd have to try some pink lemonade sometime. Maybe the house elves know how to make some." He pondered thoughtfully. But it was something he’d investigate at another time.

"It troubles me because.........I don't normally treat people like that, and I feel really terrible. I don't liiiiiike Gabriel, but I should be nice anyways." For...Clara reasons. And other reasons.
She ran her finger around the rim of the glass, absentmindedly. "A lot of things are wrong...at the moment." She said softly. "I didn't even want to come back...but I did."
She just wanted to talk to someone here...and not just owl Iwin...or her mother...and sure, talking to her friends was one thing. But...she just felt like SOME adult should know things...

"That's unfortunate." Leo said. "Having a pet should be a joyful experience." At least that was how he saw it. Nodding he said "I’ll keep an eye out for your sister next year then." He’d do it regardless if she became sorted into Ravenclaw or not. It wasn’t certain until the sorting hat sang his song on opening feast night.
Accepting the parchment with owl scores from Benzi he skimmed them over for a few moments trying to remember what subjects were required to get into Auror training. Meeting Benzi’s gaze he said encouragingly "I think you’re scores a quite good actually and if you are prepared to put down lots of time studying outside of being on your toes in classes then I see no reason why you shouldn’t be able to fulfil your dream to become an auror."
"I can provide you with old newt exams to practice on if you’d like too?" Leo offered. "You can also get updated information about what is needed to qualify for auror training in the Corner room right here in the library." It eliminated the need to see Professor Dakest if Benzi didn’t want to bother Leo's colleague. He wasn't going to pry into in the nature of Benzi's personal issues unless he wanted him to be aware of them.

Leo had struck a sore spot unintentionally as was evident by Gabriel’s reddening cheeks. He wasn’t sure how to smooth over things when he seemed to have put his foot in the hole literally and made his prefect uncomfortable. "I'm sad to hear that. I thought you and Coral-Bay were a cute couple that made each other stronger. But Hogwarts is a big place so I’m sure you can find someone new to date if you want to."
Glancing down at his clock he said "I need to get back out in the library to see that nobody has made a mess of things. I hope you’ll have a good rest of the day Gabriel." He’d see him at the next quill meeting and in Ravenclaw Tower.

With Cutty's help Leo made good way head way towards bringing order to the chaos. "It's not usually this chaotic when I get new book shipments." He explained. Running a finger down the book spines in a pile of books he continued. "It was just that this time they had just thrown the books into the boxes without stacking them in any sort of order and that makes everything more time consuming." And not to forget it made him irritated. “I really appreciate the help. As you stack the books maybe you could put them in alphabetical order by author?" If Cutty didn’t mind helping then Leo was not going to waste the chance of putting an extra pair of hands to use.
"Who is the author of the James Bond books?" Leo queried. "I can definitely order a copy from another library since I’m not certain we have that many James Bond novels in the muggle section. You could always see if Professor Moxley has any copies."

Sipping on his lemonade he let Eden talk. It was clear that she needed to get what was really troubling her out in the open. Leo could provide a listening ear. Softy he replied. "If you know what you did wrong and you know how acting like that makes you feel then you’ve taken the first step towards changing your behaviour. I’m sure you’re friends would say the same." And as for Gabriel he had probably already forgotten the incident.
Quietly Leo asked. "What are the lots of things that are wrong? Why didn’t you want to come back to school?" he hoped his silent encouragement was enough to get Eden to open up. It was clear that things were more serious than just a few hot-headed words at the feast. And because of this Leo was glad that she had come to see him.

Cutty listened as Mr. Kitridge explained why the unusual dishevelment. Of course the shipment was to blame. Cutty did not imagine that Mr. Kitridge could've done this on his own. He was only one man, even if a magical one. One magical man. "No problem, Mr. Kitridge." He said separating a new stack that he'd begun to go through. Hugging the stack tightly he turned the books so that their spines were facing up toward him. He looked down on them and did some rearranging as he leafed through searching for the parchment slip. Still he turned up nothing.
"The author..." He tilted his head and looked up toward the ceiling. He clicked his tongue remembering the name. "Ian Fleming. Fleming with one M." Cutty noticed more books behind him and realized that the packing slip must have likewise been a significant size to have included all of these books. Cutty was questioning why they didn't accio it, but kept silent. Maybe Mr. Kitridge would issue some lil helper points by the end of it. And if not, he was hoping Professor Bellaire still held to her words: You let me know.
He could still hear them ringing clear in his mind.
"I should go and see her. She'd probably know quite a bit." Was the Moxinator muggle-born or did she just happen to find muggles fascinating? What if it was a Princess Degree?
Sipping on his lemonade he let Eden talk. It was clear that she needed to get what was really troubling her out in the open. Leo could provide a listening ear. Softy he replied. Eden nodded. It was quite encouraging to hear that...she felt like she needed to hear that. She sipped her lemonade quietly for a minute as she tried to figure out how to phrase her next few thoughts to Mr. Kitridge. Hmm.
"Mainly, and I know this might seem like a dumb teenager thing to think, because Phoenix Toros? He was a Gryffindor? He didn't come back for his seventh year due to personal reasons...and...we're a thing." As in, dating and all that jazz. She sighed and ran a hand through her hair and leaned to the side in her chair. "And.." she looked around, as if making sure no one could hear her. "Another boy...that I was seeing....stopped seeing me....and....it makes me really sad. Because he understood me so well and...." she shrugged and looked at her lap.
"See? All dumb teenage girl stuff." She chuckled!sighed and just picked at a loose thread on her skirt, her cheeks turning red.
