Benny listened intently and took notes when he thought it might prove useful for later on in class or homework. Most of it was quite interesting though so maybe his notes were getting away with him. Dealing with emergencies...making the world smaller...different types of telephones to be used by deaf people who obviously couldn't hear it and what was being said like other people.

Very informative.

And then their were the effects of the invention of the telephone. Not to mention the improvements on the telephone year after year over time. Decades and century too. Both positive and negative. Okay so Benny would be thankful for his notes he scribbled because his brain wasn't going to be holding it all. At least now Moxley was slowing and offered them a change of pace with drawing the phone diagram she posted on the board.

The Gryffindor switched from pen to pencil for ease of eraser and went at it. His gaze switching from board to paper and back again as he worked, trying not to make it look like a total mess.

Woops...now they were onto the main activity and needed partners. Benny looked beside him at Adi as the Hufflpuff asked for one to see if they would work together but it seemed Lux had already claimed him. Sigh. "Anyone need a partner?"

Puck sat there and wrote down the notes of the names she knew, well some of them she did the others…well, lets face it she hadn’t learned everything all the others had. It was kind of the curse of growing up immersed in the Wizarding world all of her life.

Still she was excited, intrigued really at the idea of making can phones…this could be fun. Walking over to Kace she just grinned. “Partner?”

Henric turned to the person called for a partner,"Hey Benny! I need one!"Henric called for him. He smiled at the older student, he wondered if he want to partner up with him.

"Need help in punching those holes in the can?"he grinned at the Gryffindor whose passion for dragons was similar to his.

As Kace was looking for a partner, he turned to his right and he saw Lux walking to his right. He grinned widely and he knew what she was gonna do. She was gonna ask him to be her partner and he was honored. He grinned mischievously because he knew this assignment was gonna be fun. "Why yes I do. I mean I don't know what topics were are gonna be able to talk about with this thing.." he joked with her. "I mean I made it so we are all set to start.." he said standing up. "Do you wanna start first?" he asked handing her a can.

Adi was up for working with her. Of course he was!!

Gathering all the materials needed for her phone, Lux moved over to where Adi was seated. It just made a lot of sense to her since they were partners. They would have such a nice conversation with each other through the tin cans.

Turning both cans upside down, Lux set them side by side on the table before going to make the holes needed for the string. Oh, Zhenya wanted to observe. She must not have ever used a hammer before. "Sure thing! It's very easy." Look at her hammering away at the nail. "Just as long as you make sure not to accidentally hit your finger, it always works perfectly." But the chances of that happening were pretty slim, honestly.

First can done, Lux moved on to the second. Look at Adi, he was working like crazy. He probably had experience making these as well. "Yep! I'm a pro!" Giggle. "We will both be done in no time!" And of course they would help Zhenya if she needed it.

Zhenya looked around and heard someone else looking for a partner. "Want to do with me?" she asked the Gryffindor. Perhaps she would know how to use a hammer, and how to safely hammer the nail into the tin can. Zhenya was holding it over the tin can but couldn't figure out how to do it all with 2 hands. She needed another one!

Cinna glanced around, hearing someone ask her a question. She turned around where she found a older Slytherin girl. "Sure." She nodded and when to go sit with her. She laughed a bit. "Do you need some help?" Noticing that the other girl was having trouble punching a hole in the cans. She took the hammer just in case she did need her help.

With Lux sitting beside him, she and Adi were able to show Zhenya just how to use the hammer. Oh, yeah! He had almost forgotten the part about being cautious with the fingers! But Lux had covered that. "Yeah, Lux is right. I once thought I had smashed the bones in my thumb when I was younger.'' It was totally his dad's fault for letting a seven year old play with a hammer. Or so he remembered his mom shouting at his dad. Hehe.

The boy laughed. "You sure are! Did they teach you to hammer in The Little Mermaid movies?'' He was teasing his friend, of course. Sooooo, holes in the tin cans poked? CHECK! "String's next!'' he stated happily and grabbing his piece. Using one end of the thing, he threaded it through one of the cans and tied that end in a nice big knot to secure the can. This was super easy! Adi repeated the step for the other can.

Annnnnd.... DONE!

"One phone ready for long distance calling!'' Or even short distance calls. LOL.

Another fun class assignment for the books. Since when did all of the professors become so cool? Yeah, some had been cool, but others... erm, not so much. CoughBellaireCough. Ahem. AJ had been done with her sketch for awhile considering she figured she didn't need to be all exact with it. Advantages of coming from a muggle background. This was one class she would always excel in.

They were going to make their own tin can phone. Awesome. AJ remembered seeing kids in movies doing this sort of thing. Once, two kids that were neighbors made their own telephones and that was how they communicated when it was past their bedtimes. Who said muggles couldn't be resourceful?

First things first, AJ gathered the supplies that were needed. Hammer, nails, string and two cans were brought back to her area. On the way back to her desk she only managed to drop a few things. So, on that note...

"Who wants to be my phone buddy?" Whoever decided to partner up with her was going to be in for a treat because she was full of fun facts. What else were they going to talk about?

Zhenya watched as Lux demonstrated how to hammer the nail in. She looked a pro at it! But Zhenya was quite nervous... how could she make sure she didn't accidentally hammer her finger? She'd never done this before, and it was a bit overwhelming, all those things to do and remember... "You're a pro at that Lux."



YAY Partner! Oh, she was going to help with the hammering, "Yes please. I've never used one before and it looks a bit scary." She eyed Lux's pro hammering skills again with a smile. Turning back to her partner, she said "I'm Zhenya by the way."

He heard his name and Ben turned to see who it was trying to get his attention. Oh look...it was Henric who appeared to also be without a partner. Taking a seat, Ben borrowed the hammer and took out a nail and carefully pointed the end of the nail at the bottom of the can before taking aim. It took a few tries but alas, soon he had a hole through the bottom of his can.

Ouch!

Lux winced as Adi shared how he thought he had smashed his thumb. "Gosh, I wasn't allowed to use a hammer when I was little. My parents always did that for me." Look at her now, hammering away with the best of them. Hopefully there would be no injuries today, but it was okay since she had experience.

Oooh, he had discovered her secret. LOL. "Sebastian taught me. You remember Sebastian from class during Fourth Year, right?" That had been one of the best Ancient Runes lessons ever because she got to be a princess even if it wasn't Ariel. She would have been the best Ariel ever, and the only time she really got to be was because of that stupid evil book. Lux hated that book. At least she never had to see it again.

And it was time for the string!! She was so ready for that because her second tin can had a hole in it. Grabbing her piece, she threaded it through one of the holes before securing it with a snazzy knot. The same thing was done on the other side and voila. Tin can phone.

"Let's test these out!"

Ooooooooh, a phone out of CANS. Norah squinted at the drawing, trying and failing to figured out how exactly it was gonna work. How did sound go through a string, anyways? Last time she'd checked phones had electrical thingy mabobs that did the sound transfer things, but apparently not. Craaaaazy.

The fourth year picked up her materials from the front of the room before turning slowly around to see who could be her partner. You couldn't move fast while holding nails, everybody knew that. Aha! Spotting AJ across the room, she shuffled over to her with a big smile on her face. "Wanna work together?" She opened her fists and let her materials spill onto the desk. "How d'ya do this anyways?" AJ would know, right? Right. And even if she didn't she'd probably have loads of awesome things to talk about. Like unicorns!

Henric watched as Benny tried to make a hole in one of the cans with the hammer. Pretty good...he thought. "Watch your fingers mate...you don't want to lose one of those..."he grinned. He then proceed to put the string through the hole. It was kind of hard trying to tie the string in the can considering his hand was too big to fit in. Oh...he realised he was doing it the wrong way. He should pull the end of of the string all the way out of the can first before tying the knot in place. Henric grabbed the other end of the string and gave it to Benny.

"Here you go...tie this through the hole you made, Benny, I think you need to secure it tight too because there is a chance it will break if we pull the string too hard,"Henric suggested. He wanted to design his can next, didn't he used to do that when he was a kid making these? Even back then, he was really bad at drawing, so he practically massacred the can with his horrible stickfigurines of his favourite Marvel superheroes.Heheh.

Xavi struggled to pull a smile out when she said they'd be working in pairs. It wasn't that he didn't like to work with other people, he really did. The problem was that often he felt the work would get done twelve times faster if everyone worked individually. Which maybe was not the best strategy for everything, but for making a tin-can phone, he felt it was.

He set off for the table to gather supplies and figured he would just start working, then if anyone was partnerless after everyone finally got sorted, they could join him, and the work would be mostly done already.

Two cans, one string, one nail, one hammer. He had done this with his sister when they were smaller and sometimes at night strung the apparatus between their two bedrooms so they could tell jokes until they fell asleep. Now that he was older, it seemed a little ridiculous, but still, fond memories and whatever.

Eden thought this was really cool. Had she ever made tin-can phones? NOPE? But she had seen stuff about it in the movies. She had always WANTED to...and she wondered if really worked? She just couldn't see how it worked--but apparently it did.

She went to grab the needed supplies and glanced around for a partner as she did so. Hmph...everyone was pairing off...Eden didn't even mind who she partnered with, either...she grabbed two cans, a nail, and a hammer. Merlin. She hoped she didn't smash her finger..had someone already done it? Professor Moxley was certainly BRAVE to let them handle hammers like this.

OH! A little firstie! Eden smiled at the boy and approached..."Wanna' be my partner?" she asked. Was she a scary seventh year? SHE certainly didn't think so, but then again, she was herself. She wasn't scary to..HERSELF? pretend that made SENSE She smiled....as if to say...'PLEASE?

"I'm Eden."

Angel was still catching up with her work... seriously she couldn't believe how old the phone looked when was it from the 1970? or 1980? What with the Patronus that wizards could make she wished that the muggles could come up with something similar because that would be epic... she started to draw the phone as quickly as she could.

Angel smiled as she drew the phone to the best of her ability... how awesome was this, she was totally enjoying drawing the phone because she totally loved drawing and thought that it was really fun. Once she had finished she put it down and then looked at the Professor as she spoke again.

"Anyone need a Partner?" Angel was totally enjoying this lesson... saying that she always did Muggle Studies was so fun even if she did know all the stuff already since her parents were both muggles.

Maybe working on piecing her tin-can phone together first was a better idea. Get that out of the way before worrying about finding a partner to work with. Yeah, that sounded like a decent idea to her.

Flipping both her cans upside down on her desk so that bottom was upwards showing the lid that was still intact. Taking the nail she held it in the middle of one of the lids and used the hammer to tap at it until she made a small hole large enough to fit the string through. One can finished now to do the same to the other. When she had a small hole in the bottom of each of her cans she set the nail and hammer aside picking up the string. Carefully threading it through one of the holes she tied it off tightly into a double knot and gave a small tug making sure it wouldn't come loss before repeating the step on the other can.

There all done and that wasn't even difficult all. Now came finding a partner. Getting to her feet Hady remained by her desk but let her eyes scan over the closest others near her to see who still was in need of a partner like herself.

Can phones were SO easy to make, so without any hesitation, Zeke got straight down to work.

Hammer and nail in hand, he first set his cans bottom-side up. The, with a steady hand positioning the nail in the centre he hammered it down enough to pierce the metal.

Tap... TAP TAP!

Pulling the nail out, he peaked though his handy work, and then set about completing the next. Again, with the nail in place, he hammered down on it gently.

Tap, TAP TAP!

Pulling the nail out, he set it down on the desk and to the side along with the hammer. The hardest part was done, now all he had to do was thread through the string, tie a bloody good knot and he was DONE.

His fingers were steady as he thread the string through the hole and secured it in the can with a good knot which prevented the string from slipping out. And after doing it on one side, he completed it also on the other side. DONE!

He was DONE!

Now all he needed was a partner.

She knew the handwriting instantly and gave a small laugh. "Of course but why hit me with paper?" She asked shaking her head a bit as she grabbed her tin-can phones and headed towards Zeke's table. "You could've just called my name or something, ya know." Not that it mattered but yeah. At least he'd gotten her attention and they were partners.

"Who's phones shall we test first?," she asked setting hers on the desk beside his. Really she didn't mind either way.

He was staring for a reaction, cause it was funny... HE found it funny.

Shrugging, Zeke grinned. "And where's the fun in that? Besides, throwing notes is a muggle thing to do, I'm being muggle-like in muggle studies... it's a thing," he said as he attempted to explain his actions. Truth be told, he had simply felt like it, not that it really mattered either way.

"We can test yours first," he decided, figuring the whole ladies first thing applied in this context.

"Wise parents you've got there, Lux,'' Adi stated, grinning. "Apparently dad thought it was cool to let me handle a hammer.'' Luckily, his thumb had been safe and sound, minus the excruciating pain of course. "I think I cried.'' Which kid wouldn't?

As Adi waited for Lux to finish up with her 'phone', he double checked his by pulling at the cans. Yep, they were secured with the string. Looky! Lux had finished with hers! AWESOMEEE! "Let's test yours first.'' The boy put his 'phone' down and grabbed on end of Lux's. "Don't forget to pull the string tight,'' he said as he held up one of the cans to his ear.

Come to think of it, she only needed one nail and she had a handful. Whoops. Sometimes she got a little over excited with things, but no matter. A tin can would be made regardless of her excess supplies. Now she could be a share bear. Or just go put the extras up. Maybe later. She had a phone to make, people!

Norah got a toothy grin when she join the lion. "You bet I do!" AJ really liked the girl, and she knew working with her would only make this activity even more fun. And it looked like Norah didn't know how work the hammer. This meant that AJ was actually going to be able to teach somebody something. This almost never happened. She was always the one getting help. EEP. This was so exciting.

"You're going to love this." AJ picked up her hammer and chose her favorite nail out of the stack. "First, you are going to stick your nail to the can, and grab your hammer..." Did she like the step by step instructions? AJ could totally be a professor. Only she wouldn't because she was going to take care of unicorns when she got older. Ahem. "Then you beat the nail with the hammer until you get a hole." Demonstration time.

Whack. Whack, Whack.

"Tada." She had a perfect hole right in the center of her tin can. "Give it a go." It really was a lot of fun getting to hammer things. The brunette moved her nail over to her other can and hammered until she had another hole. How was Norah doing over there?

"Once you have your holes all done, you just have to pull your string through." Super useful AJ. Mmhmm. The lion pulled the string through the first hole and tied it off. Once it was nice and secured she did the same to the other side. Now they could play.

Alright so his theory made sense. Weirdly made sense but still none the less it did. That in itself got a laugh out of Hady followed by a nod of her head. "Alright I'll agree with you on that and I suppose it could've been worse like a book or something." She had that happen in muggle school once before and trust her with this....books hurt.

"Okay then." With a small grin she picked up the tin-can phone and handed him one can as she held the other and walked across the room. When she got as far as the string would let her she held her end (the can) to her mouth making sure the string was nice and tight so hopefully he'd hear her.

Speaking clearly with her hands around the can to keep the sound inside she spoke to to. "You're lucky it was you throwing that paper...no one else would ever get away with something like that." Her eyes were shining in amusement as she was clearly just teasing him. Did he hear her though? Lowering the can down she looked across the room at him to see if he did.

OoooOOOOH. Tin can phones? That was AWESOME. Toby had seen those, like in cartoons and stuff when he was a little kid, and he'd always wanted to try and make one, but nobody had ever helped him with it. So he was well up for this.

His diagram was done. It was mediocre, but it was done, so Toby wasted no time at all in getting right up and going to grab the materials they would need. Two cans, a nail, a hammer, and a looooooong bit of string later, and the Hufflepuff was headed back to the desk. He kept an eye on those around him, though, looking for a possible partner.

And... ah-ha. There was one, right there. Toby eyed Grayson Whitlock as he passed, nudging him then winking as soon as they made eye contact. "Hey Stud." Throwback to Halloween heheh. "Fancy partnering with me?"

Even as he asked it, Toby had reached his own desk nearby and set out all his materials before looking at the board. Okay, so... he needed to... make a hole in each of the cans. With the hammer and nail.

This was bound to go wrong, but Toby seemed neither aware nor concerned. He picked up the hammer and span it in his hand. Okay, time to hit stuff.
