They were going to try her phone first, and that sounded like an awesome idea! Giving her partner a thumbs up, she took the other end and moved away as far as she could. Now the string was taut and they were ready to go. "Heelllllooooooooooooo." she called into the tin can. Haha, she was being silly and talking like he was far away from her. |
Post 1 OOOOH that was how phones worked? That muggle dude HAD to have been as smart as Moxley said to even THINK about making that work. Caleb would have never thought of that, that was for sure. He gathered his materials and then went back to his desk. He took the nail and positioned it in the middle of the bottom of the can, just like the directions said, and then took the hammer and gently tapped it a few times to push the nail through the can. Then he repeated the process on the other can. |
Post 5 SPOILER!!: Luxxx! <3 "Yup. Even if I did, you would help get my wailing and screaming self to the Hospital Wing,'' Adi kidded. Hehe. Wailing and screaming. AS IF! He was no wimp. Anywayyy, he waited patiently while Lux move away as far away as the string would let her. Ohhh! He ACTUALLY ‘heard’ something! Just like Moxley had said! Honestly, Adi had no memories of the results of the thing when he had made it as a kid so many years before but he could certainly hear Lux’s drawn out greeting although it was a tad low and distant sounding. He grinned and flashed back his friend a thumbs up. SUCCESS! His turn now to talk now! Adi motioned to Lux that he would switch the roles by placing his end to his mouth. “Hiiii, Ariel!’’ Hehe .A little something for he fondness for the Mermaid. |
Post 5 Quote:
Yaaaay, he had heard her greeting!! That meant that her phone was working and she honestly couldn't remember how many other successful phones she had created in the past. Probably all the ones done with her parents helping. Anyhow, time for her to try out the ear piece. Placing it to her ear, Lux heard Adi call her Ariel. Now this she approved of. Yep, he could call her Ariel as much as he wanted to. THUMBS UP because everything was working perfectly. Time to try out his phone and they would be done the activity. Too bad they couldn't have a long convo, but she didn't know how much longer they had left. |
post 1 and looking for partner The thing he liked about Muggle Studies was that there was no magic involved. Of course he was proud to be a wizard but sometimes he liked doing things with his hands. It also made one have more respect for the non-magical kind. He wrote down little notes in his notebook whenever he heard something that sounded important , Yoongi placed his muggle pencil down when they had to make the telephones. Getting up from his seat to grab the supplies needed for this activity, he held them in his arms and then walked back to his seat. Ok, so first he had to ….he looked at the blackboard…. Ah! Make a small hole at the bottom of each can. Picking up the hammer and nail he positioned the nail at the bottom of the first can and hit the nail with hammer making a small hole. He did the same thing with the other can. Also! He did not hit his fingers! Woohoo~! Next was, he looked at the board again and after reading step two he grabbed the thread to string it through the cans before tying them off at each end. That…that was is? THIS was used as a communication system? Muggles were fascinating. Now...who wanted to partner with Curious Yoongi? |
Post 2 - Main Activity SPOILER!!: Henric Funny. No, he could manage to do something without hurting himself. Too much. And the hammer and nail seemed to behave themselves so that he had what he needed without anything happening. All fingers and hands weren intact and no blood was around. He set both tools aside seeing as he didn't think they would be needed anymore for this little communications project. Taking the offered end of string that was the opposite end to what Henric had used on his own can, Ben gingerly slipped it through the new hole in his can. One....two...thre---there. He pulled it all the way through as his partner had, tying the not at the end before rethreading it back so the knot held and resisted and kept the line in place. "There..." he mused, one set of tin cans ready. "What's next?" He had rushed to find a partner after doing his drawing that he hadn't fully written down all the steps. The younger Hufflepuff on the other hand seemed prepared for what they were supposed to do. So far at least. |
Post 1 - and partners? Finishing up the labels on his He obviously hadn't joined in back then, but it was looking like he was going to have to do it now. The second year tried his hardest not to roll his eyes as he pushed his chair back and slowly made his way to gather materials. Some string, very long so he could be as far away from the other person as possible, and two cans. He couldn't help but wonder what had been in them before. Beans maybe. There were beans at dinner last night, maybe these where the cans from them. Did the house elves clean them using magic? Or where the cans magically conjured from the air? All of the questions. Dalton quickly tied off one end of the string before putting the holes into the cans. Did it matter if the holes were off centre? Because his were, massively so. He hoped not, because he couldn't be bothered getting up to get more cans, AND his thumb was already hurting. Sucking on it like the kid he was, he awkwardly thread the non tied end of the string through both cans and then tied off the other end. Now was the effort part. Finding someone to work with. Probably would have been easier if he'd made an effort to know people. |
Post 2 - and anyone need a partner??? Next to do the little string thingy. Caleb took his string and pushed it through the hole he'd made on one of the cans, and then tied a knot on the inside of it so it would stay there when he pulled on it. Then he took the other can and repeated it, doing the same thing with the rope and tying a nice little knot to keep it in there. And now, he needed a partner to test his completed telephone with! "Anyone need a partner?" he called out. |
Post #1; <3 Quote:
So, Grayson got up and headed over to gather up the required materials. Not much needed to be collected, really. Just two cans, a hammer, nail and some string. A long piece of string at that. Jeez, how far apart did Moxley want him and his partner to be? This length could probably span all the way to China at this rate. And speaking of partners, he needed to find one. Idiots need not apply-- YOOOOOOOOOO! SMIRK. Seeing this particular Hufflepuff always made him happy but the stud comment? Lolol. Grayson retaliated by wiggling his hips seductively at the fellow seventh year. Yep, nothing to see here. "'Course, man, like I can say no to you." A wide smile spread across the boy's face. That didn't mean he could use it against him, mkay? Juuuust sayin'. Moving over, Grayson dumped his items on Toby's desk as well before turning to him and saying, "Did we have to have two of these bad boys or what?" You know, the tin can telephones. |
Post 6 SPOILER!!: Ariel! <3 Eeeep! Another thumbs up! YAAAY! At least Lux's phone wasn't a defective one. Who would have thought that these things actually worked? He couldn't remember clearly but he thought the one he had made soooo long ago hadn't worked or maybe the string hadn't been pulled tight enough between him and whoever had tried it out. Oh well. "We're almost done,'' Adi informed Lux unnecessary. He handed her one end of his after setting her down. "I'll do the talking first time if that's alright with you.'' He waited until his friend had placed the can to her ear then spoke into his can making sure the string was pulled tightly. "Butterflies like Lux.'' Hehe. They diiiid as was proven at the Butterfly Garden. |
Post 6 Quote:
YAAAAAAAAAY. Lux liked this lesson so she was having fun, but it was still nice to know that everything was going along perfectly. Maybe they could have a longer phone conversation this time. They could keep going until Professor Moxley told everyone to pack up. "Yep, sure thing, partner!" Placing the can to her ear, she waited for Adi to say something. The butterflies liked her, huh? Haha, well that was true based on what happened in the butterfly garden. Smiling, she gave him a thumbs up before gesturing that it was her turn to speak. |
Post 4 SPOILER!!: Lux Zhenya watched again as Lux finished off her hammering. Okay... well, Zhenya could do it. She could. So with her left hand she held the nail in the centre of the bottom of the tin can, with the other hand, she picked up her hammer with her right hand, and hovered it over the top of the nail. She did some very slow and careful taps, but after about 15 of them, the nail finally punctured the tin can. Cool! She did it! Sheeeeeee nailed the tin can without nailing her finger off! Next tin. She grabbed the next tin, with her left hand again held the nail in the centre of the bottom of the tin, and with her right she hammered away at it. She tried to do slightly bigger and harder hammers this time, but voila, it worked. 7 hammers and the nail went through. WOOT! Zhenya put the hammer down and admired her handiwork. She wasn't sure she'd ever really try using a hammer again, after all she was a witch with a wand, but learning these crafty muggle skills was very interesting, and perhaps necessary if she was ever in an emergency and required to use a hammer. No, she couldn't think of any reason why she would have to but... you never knew. |
post 3? I think. Quote:
Watching her newly found partner, she laughed a bit intimating hammer now that was something new. She looked down at the hammer in her hand. Not scary at all. Then again she was a Gryffindor, and not afraid of anything."It's not that bad. Unless you smash your finger." Then it just really really hurt. She could do all the hammer if the older girl wanted her to. She didn't mind. Her tin can phone was already made. Now the other introduced herself "Oh, I'm Cinna." She noticed that Zhenya had been looking at Lux. She looked in the hufflepuffs direction and smiled at her too. She wasn't sure if Lux had seen it. Turning back to Zhenya, she said, "If you hold the can and the nail. I'll hit it with the hammer." She promised that she wouldn't smash her fingers. |
Post 7 SPOILER!!: Lux, Lux, Cucumber sandwich eater! <3 AWESOMEEE! Lux had heard him! Annnnd it was the final test though Adi knew that he would hear her. These tinny actually worked. He vaguely wondered who had invented the thing and it also crossed his ind that maybe he could come up with something like this but only cooler. Like him. Hehe. Nodding in Lux's direction, he lifted his end of the can to his ear, taking care to make sure that the string was still pulled as Moxley had instructed. Yup! String in place, yo! It was up to Lux now! |

Post 3 SPOILER!!: Benny ^.^ Henric grinned, he was already set on making one stickfigurine on his can..you know.. for old times' sake. He took out his handy-dandy refillable quill and set it to marker mode. Hoho yes...nowadays in Diagon Alley, they had all these quills in different variations, he bought two of these babies.Oh yeah...that was how he roll. After he was done drawing his version of Spiderman, he passed the pen over to Benny and shrugged. "That's it...you can draw on it if you want to like I did mine, if not, we can test it out now,"Henric told him, smiling. |
post 4 Quote:
Cinna didn't notice the place on her forehead until she seen Zhenya rubbing it. She knew when the fear of the hammer came from now. So yeah, a bit more understanding of it. Anyway she waited until the other girl looked ready before she poked the whole in can with the nail. She laughed when the other girl used both hands, Okay,"I'll count to three and hit the nail with the hammer." She raised up the hammer not to much because she really didn't need to much power behind it. "Okay.One... two... three..." She tapped the hammer to the nail. There can number one was poked now they just had to do the another can and tie the string and they could get started using their phones. |
Post 3 - Main Activity Quote:
"Um...okay," he said accepting the quill from the younger boy. Benny thought briefly about what he could possibly decorate the metal can , finally opting on random-looking lines that turned into flames when you looked at it right. Setting the quill back in front of Henric when he was done, the Gryffindor got up from his seat and tentatively edged away from where the Hufflepuff was seated. The boy careful not to get tangled up with anyone else. He stopped when he was satisfied they were far enough away. "Get ready..." Time to test this out after all. Taunt string...check. Can cup to speak into...check. "Dragons are cool..." he said into the can end, his mouth blocked so his partner couldn't just read his lips. |
Post 1 Oh, craft project! Dot squirmed happily in her seat until the moment she was allowed to explode out of it in the general direction of the supplies. What did she need? GET OUT OF HER WAY, PEOPLE. What was she supposed to get? Cans? String? Ummm... She paused long enough to watch her classmates, and then Dot grabbed up two cans, a length of string, and a hammer and nail. It was just as easy as poking a hole in the end of each can, right? Surely she could do that without destroying the cans or her own fingers. Why wasn't there a spell for hammering things? |
Post 4 SPOILER!!: Benny! Henric waited for Benny to finish his can decoration.Niceee....flames design eh? "Cool arts you got there, you could be a tattoo artist too,"he complimented. Not that he had any of course, he wasn't old enough yet, possibly in his sixth year like Benny. But he ain't telling nobody...huhu.shh... Time to test this muggle contraption out now.... Henric stepped away from Benny and held up his can onto his ear to listen.."Yep...ready!"Henric replied back with one thumb up. He could hear small vibrations of sounds coming through his can, kind of hollow in a way at first but then he heard Benny's voice from the other end. Benny send him a message that sounded quite funny to him. "Did you say "WAGONS ARE FULL"?"Henric called for Benny, chuckling. Did he hear correctly? He wasn't sure why Benny suddenly thought of wagons."Sorry Benny, can you say it one more time please?"he asked and returned to listen in more intently this time. |

Lux supposed that they were technically done the activity, but it was cool talking to each other through the tin cans. She had no idea how it actually worked, but supposed that a lot of it had to do with vibrations being sent along the string; that must be why it was important to keep it taut. |

post 2 SPOILER!!: AJ! With a grin in AJ's direction, she picked up the hammer and positioned a nail in the middle of her first can. "Here I go!" She brought the hammer down with a loud WHACK....on the table. Whoopsies? The fourth year gave the table a little pat because it really hadn't ASKED to be whacked like that, before lifting the hammer again for a second try. Aiming and stuff was important, apparently. She brought the hammer down again, this time actually paying attention to where it went, and gave a satisfied smile when the nail broke the surface of the can. Was she strong or WHAT? Aaaaand another hit, and then another, AAAND another because the middle one had missed but who was really counting, until there was a nice hole in there and she pulled the nail out. Halfway done and she still had all ten fingers! And toes, but that was kinda irrelevant. With a couple more whacks, the holes were complete and then came the hard part: string tying. Whomever had invented string tying really wasn't thinking about all the people with clumsy fingers, 'cause tying knots was even harder with plaiting her hair which Norah was practically incapable of. Apparently that stuff was easier when you actually brushed your hair but that was NOT a sacrifice she was willing to make just yet. Fourteen year olds had priorities, clearly. She fumbled with the string until something that resembled a knot held that side in place, before doing the same to the other side. Well. It'd work if she didn't pull to hard? "I'm finished too!" WAIT. No she wasn't. The fourth year bet down to her bag to pull out a marker, then drew to eyes and a smile on one of the cans, using the lopsided knot as a nose. "Okay, NOW I'm finished." WAIT NO. She picked up her hammer again and hit a nail so it stuck out of the top of her smiley can. UNICORN CAN. UNICAN. AW YEAH. "Okay I promise I'm actually finished this time." And now time to plaaaay. |
2 SPOILER!!: Graaaay Grinning was happening, right at Grayson. What a cool guy. "Brilliant," Toby replied, all beamy as he kept quickly rotating the hammer in his hand. He looked back at his materials and stopped spinning it, with the hammer-y end pointed down. "I dunno. I think so. So like... everyone has a chance at making one." Even as he spoke, Toby got the nail in place at the bottom of one can and poised the hammer over it. He glanced up. "Tell you what, that means the person listening can have cans over BOTH ears. And it would block out other sounds a little too, so we can really see how well they work. OR we each have an ear can and a mouth can at once, like a proper phone." Ah yes. A proper phone. With all those cans. And with that... SMACK. Toby brought the hammer down and right onto the nail. One hit was all it needed to make a hole, and soon... SMACK... the other can was sorted too. Nice. Setting the hammer and nail to one side, Toby picked the cans up to look through each of the holes to see if it had worked well enough, at which point he noticed... the holes in the desk. Um. "Oops." Sorry Moxley. Ahem. He'd fix that soon. Later. Yep. It was a little fiddly, but soon Toby had the string threaded through and tied off, and he HAD A PHONE. Sort of. Hopefully. "Ready when you are, Mr. Whitlock," he said to the Slytherin, holding up both cans connected with the string to prove it. "So now if you trade one end of yours with one end of mine?" And then they could DO THE THING. |
