One could tell when a certain Puffer had nothing to do. It was either that or or he was feeling too lazy to do anything right at that moment. But the point was, Adi was purposely hanging out at the Staircases because he was trying to see if there was a pattern in which the staircases moved. Did one move from one floor to another at a particular time? Did a few move all the time and only paused for a second or two at one floor? Did a certain one only go to particular floors?
Pretty interesting, huh? Maybe, maybe not but Adi thought there was a possibility that he could be onto something. He happily bounded onto one of the staircases from the third floor. Let's see where this on led to!

With his 'Be Back Soon!' notice put up on the Front Desk counter Leo left the seemingly quiet library to take his trolley with books past his colleague’s offices. A number of them had made book reservations and orders that Leo know could fulfil. He headed down the moving staircase on his way to see Cosgrach in the dungeons. If his mind hadn’t been elsewhere he would have seen the signs that the staircases were about to start moving. As was the case now though he was unaware and couldn’t prevent what happened next.
The staircase started to rock and shudder as it moved around before it came to a sudden stop causing Leo to fall over and bang his head on the side of the trolley. Ouch!

Well, THAT first staircase took him to the second floor. Adi decided to stay on board to see where it would move next. Maybe it followed a pattern? To the second floor then to a few others and then back to the second floor? Don't ask why he was so obsessed about finding this out. Even he didn't know. Hehe.
Looky! The stair case was moving again! Wheeee! Where was it going to goooo? Adi looked up at the fourth floor, having caught movement on that floor. Oh, hey! It was the Librarian! "Hi, Mr-'' Uh oh. The man's staircase had halted abruptly causing him to bang his head into his book trolley.
"Oi! Take me to the fourth floor!'' Adi slapped the rail of the stair he was standing on which was still moving... towards the fourth floor, too Did the staircases usually listen to humans? Whatever. Adi didn't have time to think about that. He got off of the stairs and hurried over to Mr Kitridge. "Mr. K! Are you alright?'' The bang hadn't been that bad, right?
Angel was totally still shaking... seriously what had she just been through, she decided that as soon as she got to the moving staircases. She would just sit down and try and figure out what the Professor had wanted them to do. Okay so they hadn't been real Dementors but still she had got lost in the maze with a bunch of fake ones and she hadn't liked it.
She decided that she never wanted to see another one again... and as for Defence Against the Dark Arts... Well lets just say she would be trying to figure out if she actually wanted to go to another lesson, she loved the Professor Patronus though that had been amazing and the otter was fun.
Angel took out her wand and looked at it, she seriously wished that she could produce something so cool... but all she got was a silvery light which had worked but nothing as cool as what the Professor had... why was it so hard to make something so cool, maybe she could ask a Professor what would be the best way of making a proper Patronus an animal one, she wanted to see what Animal she would get.

It was the otter that arrived at the staircase first. After all it had followed the girl out of the classroom and down the hall. It had lost her at a turn, but after a recasting had quickly located her again. It sat down on the stairs beside her, tilting its head as it peered at her curiously.
Sabel followed shortly after, settling himself on the young girls other side. A breath left him as he clasped his hands together between his knee and glanced at Valentine. "You looked a little shaken at the end of class. Everything alright? "
Truth be told she still looked a bit unsteady, but he didn't think she would appreciate him pointing it out.

Angel was just sat there, doing nothing when suddenly there was this otter on her side, she let out a sigh, seriously why couldn't she produce something so cool, after all she was a fourth year now, surely she should be able to get through a maze and do a Patronus all on her own.
Angel was just staring at the Otter when suddenly the DADA Professor spoke from her other side, Angel turned to face him. "I just got lost in the maze and it reminded me on how easy it is to get lost and lose your way." Angel had gotten lost in a Maze before when she was younger and it had been so scary and this had just brought back a load of crazy feelings.
Angel looked back at the otter... it was so amazing and cool and she wanted one herself. Without turning back to the Professor she suddenly added. "Plus you make it seem so easy to do a Patronus but when I was in the Maze all I could get was a silver light." Angel had really wanted to see what her Patronus would be.

Blasted staircases! Why couldn’t they just be normal and steady for a change and not move? Rubbing the sore spot that was forming on his forehead where it had connected with the book trolley Leo surveyed the damage. Luckily no books had flown out, so the only thing damaged was him.
Looking up as Adi bounded over to him Leo said still rubbing his forehead with a thumb. "I'm all right, just knocked my head a bit on the trolley. I'll get a small bump but it's nothing serious." Holding on to the trolley he pulled himself up on his feet. Cassie would tease him about this when he told later that evening. "So what are you doing here on the staircases Adi aside from coming to my aid?"

PHEW!
The Librarian and his noggin seemed to be just fine. "No major headache or anything, right?" The student was concerned so he just had ask that despite the assurance he received. But moving on to the question! "I was just conducting a little experiment about the staircases. So far I haven't found any evidence to back up my idea.'' Which was a TOTAL bummer, by the way.
Adi peered into the trolleyful of books. "Do you need any help getting these... wherever it is you need them to be?" The helpful Puffer would not mind. It wasn't like he was going anywhere with his Staircase theory so that can wait.

"Ahhh. I see. It is never fun to loose your way." At least she wasn't one of those ones that got petrified by illusions of their fears? Good to know, he supposed. Perhaps he should collect a list of boggarts. Maybe teach a lesson on them so he could find out.......
But she seemed calmer now, and that was what mattered. He had thought he'd have to deal with a breakdown, tears, lots of sobbing and copious amounts of snotty tissue paper. Thank Merlin that was not yet the case.
It might end up being though. Especially given he laughed at her. A full-hearted laugh. Really, he couldn't help it, and it wasn't so much at her as at her words. Alright, so they were somewhat of the same thing.
Shaking his head, Sabel grinned at her. "Well, I am about twice your age, and three times your height." Not that height had anything to do with patronuses, but it was still a true fact. Sobering, his grin turned to an understanding smile. "Patronuses are hard, but not impossible. That you made a light, is absolutely fantastic work. You should be proud of yourself."
He considered her for a moment, thinking that might not be convincing enough for her young mind. "Have you ever heard the saying, that you wish for what someone has, until you hear what it cost them to get it?"

Angel just stared at the Professor, seriously that wasn't nice laughing at her, she was young and okay sometimes she was funny and reckless and foolish but still he was a Professor and shouldn't be laughing right, she thought Professor's didn't laugh anyway because they were always busy working.
Angel looked at the Professor again when he said he was twice her age, she thought he look more than that but well she wouldn't dare say anything to him and anyway it wasn't nice picking on someone because of their age and his height well he did seem really tall compared to her. "I just really was hoping to make something as cool as what you can sir." Angel was one that always wanted to succeed at the first attempt.
Angel looked down at her feet but back at the Professor as he said something she'd never heard before. "No, Sir, I can't say I have heard that saying before." Angel wondered why the Professor was saying this. "Did it cost you a lot to get the Patronus then?"

It was the look he received that had him putting in a visible effort to quell his amusement, and to try and put on a serious expression. It wasn't too hard given the topic, but because of the look he figured making a visible effort would help, somewhat.
At least, there were no tears or temper tantrums. A rather internal thinker then.
"I'm sure that you can, and you will. If not cooler." He glanced around her at his otter, which had taken to eyeing the stairs with a mischievous glint to its silvery-toned gaze. Admittedly, he was curious and eager to see, what patronus each of the students would create. But he couldn't very well let his own curiosity tainted their already frustrated states. He had to be just as patient as them.
His gaze slid from the patronus to the girl, his smile withering only for the briefest of moments before it return. "In a manner of speaking, it did." A story for never, unfortunately. It would go against his own rules about revealing what it was allowed him to cast a patronus.
Though, he supposed that his words could be interpreted another way. A way in which one would strive to find a great cost, to get what seemed like a great reward. His brow twitched in concern. "That's not to say that it has to cost anything to produce a patronus. Just that, one should be careful about wishing they have what another has."
Was he making any sense to the young girl? Being of any help? Probably not.
He clasped his hands between his knees, his voice turning light. "A silver light though? That's a really good start."

Eyeing the trolley and considering his options, Leo almost waited for the staircases to throw them a new curve ball. They weren't known for their stableness. But since it didn't seem like they would be taken on a new ride anytime soon he answered Adi's question with a smile. "No major headache or anything like that I promise. You don't need to find Healer Tillstorm."
"Staircase experiment?" He echoed bewildered. "What is your theory about them?" Leo wondered curiously. He had never run across a student who took interest in how the staircases worked. "Some of the books in the trolley are for Professor Culloden in the dunegons."

"Colovaria and a point of the wand,'' he said to himself. "Yep, five items. This should be a walk in the park.'' After all, he hadn't had much trouble with it... verbally.
"I'm going to try working on it non verbally,'' the Hufflepuff informed his Ravenclaw companion. "I've been trying to do non verbal spells for a while but I suck at it.'' Hmph. He hated that. Anyway, he waited patiently for Tia to make up her mind about the object she would be working with. Ah! The bookshelf! It was perfect! And she did it without much effort too!
"Good job! My turn!'' Now, the book shelf where he and Tia were standing at, was one which was braced against the wall soooo it was the wall that was going to be changed. Yup.
"Colovaria!'' Point! No red light from his wand and that meant no colour change. Seeee? He sucked at non verbal spells. "Colovaria!'' Point! Nope, this wasn't working. Back to verbal it was! There was no sense in keeping Tia waiting while he failed epically.
"Colovaria!" Adi pointed his wand smartly at the wall, still focusing on the bright yellow of Hufflepuff House. Wheee! There it was! One yellow wall with the blue book shelf against against it. Now they needed somewhere else to go... "We can change the stairs of the fourth floor next. Or even the corridor floor.'' Yeah! Adi liked the thought of changing the floor yellow. Hehe. With that, he lead Tia out of the library, out to the fourth floor.
Ooh. So Tia wasn't about to hide her impressed self when Adi said he was going to attempt it non-verbally. She never attempted one herself, but she'd heard they were quite the skill to master. "Good luck. Here's hoping," she crossed her fingers and gave him an encouraging smile.
But no such luck apparently, as Tia watched the older student with his attempts. Surely he must be doing something wrong because for some bizarre reason although she hadn't read TOO much on nonverbal spells yet, she felt like there was some key component to them. More than just greater focus.
But at long last, he conceded and cast it verbally so they could move on. "Stairs. I like that idea. Plus if we catch them while they're moving it might be more challenging to get just one stair...."
She followed Adi from the library, stopping at the stairwell. "Nonverbal spells... tell me more about what it requires..." Because maybe she'd try one by their last item? "Colovaria!" The fifth year cast, pointing at the step two from the top and smiled as it changed to the navy blue as the bookshelf before had. This was easy enough.
"After you go, maybe we should do an alternating pattern for four steps?" Tia suggested. It would require some focus, for sure. And would count as a third item, which left only two more for them to change...

You know how someone would have felt totally embarrassed about their failure in front of someone? Well, not Adi. He was more disappointed than anything to feel that way. At least Tia hadn't laughed at him but he did wonder if she thought he was lame as he followed her out of the library.
............................
Adi had not thought of that! The Moving Staircases would indeed make it more challenging. "It sure would! No staircase moving or not would stop me.'' Hehe. Such a confident Hufflepuff he was. But onto the subject of non verbal spells... the annoying thing. Meh. "Awhole heap of practice is needed because mental discipline and concentration are key. So I reckon all that practice should pay off eventually.'' Though that did not seem to be working out well for him AT ALL. "Have you ever tried non verbal spells, Tia?''
But he would shut up now and let Tia do her thing again. Adi grinned broadly. "That sounds like a plan! Yellow and Blue look great together, anyway.'' Too bad they could carve their names into everywhere they had worked so that everyone would see his and Tia's awesome work. Oh well. At least the Catman would know.
Anywhooo...
Adi's turn again!
"Colovaria!" POINT to the second step after Tia's as he focused on yellow. And there it was! One yellow step, joining the girl's blue one.
Jogging down the staircase, Sophie knew exactly where she was going next: to Quiggles' office. She was going to TURN HIS OFFICE DOOR BLUE AND MARK HER TERRITORY. Or... maybe the chairs in his seating area outside it or something. Or maybe she'd knock on the door and turn his clothes blue when he opened the door and RUN AWAY. Whatever she did, he couldn't possibly get mad at her because this was for HIS class and he'd never SAID that anything was off limits. No. She would just be doing what she was instructed to do.
Hehehehehehehehe.
The many flights of stairs she had to navigate down from the seventh floor to the third floor was nothing, but she had to wait every now and then for the staircase to move back to where she needed. When one particular staircase moved just before she could get to it, she stopped and leaned against the railing of the staircase she was currently standing on... then realized she could turn some stairs blue. That would count, right?
Turning around to face the stairs on the leg of staircase she'd just run down, Sophie pointed her wand at the stair just above the platform she was standing on and cast, "Colovaria!" Then at the next one, and the next one, and the one up from that, "Colovaria! Colovaria! Colovaria!" Four stairs were now blue, and the staircase she needed was coming back and attaching itself to the platform she was standing on, soooo Sophie abandoned her stair-charming efforts and continued her descent down the moving staircases.
Look out, Quiggles. Sophie Brown's coming for you.
