A large number of floor-to-ceiling bookcases fill up the library, creating aisles upon aisles of books available for students to read and browse. To make finding books for all years a little easier Mr Kitridge has divided the bookshelves into sections like romance, suspense, crime, history, plants and fungi etc.
To return books just walk up to the appropriate shelf and hold up the book. The gripping charm in place on the shelves will take a hold of the book. When you feel a tug on the book let go and the book will fly up and find its right place amongst the other books on the shelves. When retrieving a book you can use the sliding ladders or if you feel confident with your magic you can use a simple accio charm to retrieve the book you want.
In front of each aisle there is small set of desks which students can use to complete homework, copy notes, take book references or chat. Keep your voices down and be mindful of falling books and other students accessing books around you.
Noel rolled his eyes before nodding, "Of course you would know who ranks closest to the trolls, since you are their queen and all" he said with a bored expression. Honestly .... their bickering got just sad after a while and he wished they would NOT but apparently they both couldn't help it.
He was JUST starting to breathe after laughing so hard when the hitting started. WAIT. WAHO. OOOWWW..... the fudge? Frowning, the boy grabbed her wrist just in time before she broke his something. "You seriously have some pent up aggression, Caruso! Watch it before I am not in a friendly mood anymore" Geez.
Letting her wrist go, the boy TRIED to be in a better mood again but the whole thing was ruined, wasn't it? Because Chance. And Hayley. And ......... he said no to her? Noel exactly knew HOW that felt? While he hadn't asked Maddie the same thing - he had been rejected too, yeah? Not sure how to take the new information Noel ... did what he thought was okay ... he threw a pumpkin pasty in her lap yet again.
.....
He stayed quiet for the longest time because .. for the first time since they had met he didn't want to say anything that would annoy her. Instead, he just drummed his fingers idly on the pile of books next to him. And then when he thought it might be appropriate, he said: "So .. do you want to light things on fire or something to cool off"
How incredibly rude of him to say that. "We both know I am way too gorgeous to be the queen of the trolls." Obviously. And since he was allowed to say he was cute, she was allowed to say she was gorgeous. Not that she was going to not say it anyways.
Was he ever in a friendly mood? Bianca was a bit surprised at that comment and that he had taken her wrist. "Unhand me." She was going to add peasant at the end but he let her wrist go anyways and just to be nice - since he was in a "friendly mood".
There was a bit of silence between them. Bianca just fiddled with the ends of her hair because she didn't quite know how to break that silence or what to say. She didn't need him to feel sorry for her. That was the last thing she wanted and all she really wanted to do was strangle Chance anyways for being him and not telling her ahead of time. Thinking about it only made her feel worse so she decided to focus on the sound of Noel drumming his fingers against the pile of books.
Bianca was pleasantly surprised by his suggestion. "That sounds like fun but I don't think the librarians would appreciate us burning his books," she said with something that might've been a smile. It might've been but when she caught herself smiling at him of all people she stopped.
This whole being upset thing was obviously getting to her and messing with her mind.

Amanda wandered the shelves quietly. She was a bit of a bookworm but hadn't found a good book to read in a while. She hummed a bit as she browsed, thinking of mom and dad at home and wondering if this magic stuff would ever stop feeling like a dream.

Oh. Right. She must have been showing her concern, and look another book added to the pile he was standing on. Hopefully it wouldn't cause everything to fall, including him. "I think that's one of the Hufflepuff traits." Not that they were always worriers, but maybe it was one of their attributes!!
"My Mama was a Hufflepuff." Rooney commented with a grin down at the girl as he fiiiiiiiinallly got the book from the shelf. As he set himself back on his feet on the pile of books, he laughed and turned in preparation to jump back down to the floor. "She was actually a Prefect." ALSO. This girl was a Hufflepuff, and she didn't look like she was a first year so she probably might have known Auntie Elsy. Yay.

Sitting when the man offered for him to join him, Jay wiped his tears away completely. He wasn't crying. Nope. He nodded at the question and eyed the man. He took one book in hand and lean back against the bookshelf. Honestly, he was trying to get things off his mind and reading about his favourite beast helped clear his thoughts. Yaaaaaay, the boy had managed to get the book down from the shelf. Lux felt happy for him, so she did a little fist pump. Haha. That was fun. It took her a moment to realize that he had told her his mom had been a Hufflepuff. That was lovely. "Hufflepuffs are awesome. I'm not sure I could handle being a Prefect though, with all the crazy stuff that happens here." So kudos to his mother as well as all the other prefects.
Noticing that he was about ready to jump from his little book pile, Lux made sure to move well out of the way. Didn't want any accidents to happen. So much to think of and so many emotions buzzed in the fourth years head. Life had been somewhat predictable before but this year her entire world felt turned upside down. She had received another owl from each of her parents..... Separately. Things didn't sound as she hoped that they would and she wasn't going to be looking forward to the school break and holidays a few months away. She heard that you could stay at the school for the holidays and she was wondering about possibly arranging to do so. Additionally , it seemed school wasn't affording her any less stress. Not the studying mind you, but feelings and other peoples feelings. Exasperated with all of this feeling, she elected to drown herself in study. It was never too early to study for your owls right? She was rubbish at muggle studies and divination compared to her other classes, so she would start there. She took a book off of a shelf she was passing , barely registering that another person was there. She stuck her face half in the book as she continued searching the shelves. Multitasking to drown out her distressed emotional state.

It couldn't be helped. Nope, dropping by at the library when one's curiosity got the better of them though Adi had tried to make himself stay away from the place because he had seen enough of it during his fifth year. Still... there was the upside to being here. Mr Kitridge was one. Adi thought the man was coo in his own nerdy way so he always looked forward to seeing him.
Right now, the sixth year was scanning the shelves looking for a book on Divination. He wanted to read more about the dark side of Gastromancy... and any other dark methods as well. Sooooo... which book should he choose? he wondered as he stared up at the high shelves.
Just look at him. Who would have guessed that Hugo would be in the library? No one, especially him, but here he was.
The third year was determined to read about Patronuses, how they work and all that jazz, but in fact, he just really wanted to know how his patronus would look like. Also, he should be doing his homeworks and the library was a perfect place to do them but this was way more interesting.
The boy grabbed a random book and started reading it, it was about Divination. Nevermind, back to the shelf. That was not his subject. Nope. He should search some Potions books as well, that way he would feel as if he was doing his homeworks. Kind of.

With his backpack lazily slung on his shoulder and several books stacked in his arms, Simon tried to make his way towards the library to put some of the books pack. "Excuse me, pardon me, coming through. Sorry," he said as he tried his hardest to navigate past younger students. Thank Merlin that he had grown over the summer; otherwise, he wouldn't be able to see where he was going or look intimidating at his height. Simon had a baby face so many people often mistook him for being younger than he was. Sheesh.
Just then a kid bumped into him. Rolling his eyes, Simon moved past the boy and headed towards the bookshelves. Bloody Merlin's Beard. There were a lot of kids in the library today and the year had barely started. Finally, he found his way back to the aisle where he had taken the books from. There was a younger boy there who seemed to be checking out some books. "Excuse me, kiddo," he said as he scooted past the boy and began putting the books back into their homes the good old fashioned muggle way. He kept his blue eyes on Hugo and watched as he took out a book and then put it back. "Looking for any book in particular?" he asked. Simon knew this library all too well.

This studying thing was getting to Tia and it wasn't even Christmas yet. It might have been okay if she had been more focused but lately, her focused had been lost somewhere from the green monster of jealousy and teenage angst. She wasn't supposed to get involved with that; she was supposed to go to classes and do her homework and just stay focused.
But even sitting at the library tables, Tia felt her gaze shift even if he was nowhere to be found in the vicinity. Or she. So instead of simply sitting, staring glossy-eyed at words, Tia strode down the aisle, glancing at the many books ... her fingertips brushing along their spines. Seeing their titles, but not really looking.
...
If she had been walking fast, she probably would have landed on her bottom, but since she had been merely shuffling along, the fifth year merely stumbled backward slightly and adjusted her focus to the present. "Ooh. Sorry. Hey Adi," she chewed her lip. "I'm sorry. You alright?"

Maybe Hugo should have asked Dakest about DADA books, that way he wouldn't be searching in every bookshelf. Oh well, the illustrations were cool and fun to see. Again he took out another book, this time a Transfiguration one. That subject was really interesting but Bellaire kind of scared him.
He started reading about Animagus. Could he become one? That would be awesome. He would ask about that later to Bellaire, just for the sake of knowledge and curiosity. His thoughts were interrupted by someone. It was Simon. "Yup. A book about patronuses" And then, a bright idea hit him. Hugo turned to face Simon with a smirk. He didn't have to go to Bellaire's office, he was going to ask Simon. "Do you know anything about animagus?"

Simon gave the young boy a slight nod accompanied by a thumb's up. After he finished sorting his books, he walked towards the younger boy. "A book about patronuses?" he repeated and smirked. Ah, Simon had done the same thing at Hugo's young age. He had come to the library and had found everything possibly known to the Hogwarts Librarians about patronuses. He had to become an expert.
And now young Hugo had asked him about animagus'. Hmm... If he had been a cartoon character, a light bulb would have appeared above his head for Simon Holden had figured out just the book the boy needed. "Come this way. I know a couple of books that'll help." He waved the boy to one of the aisles. He pulled out a book, flipped the pages until he reached the section on Animagus. "Here's your basic information on Animagus. What sort of information would you like to know?" The boy raised his eyebrows curiously.

Adi paused, his fingers resting on a book. It was all about Divination as he wanted but his thoughts had drifted to the Restriction Section though admittedly that would have more Defense Against the Dark Ats stuff. He supposed he could always get Professor Dakest's permission if he wanted. The man was cool like that.
The Hufflepuff was jolted out of his thoughts when something squishy collided with him. How rude! Straightening his glasses, he looked around for the person. "Tia! Hi! That's alright.'' Woops! He needed to use his indoors voice but it certainly had been a while since he actually gotten to speak with her out of classes. "I'm alright but how are you?'' Upon a closer look, Tia did seem a little disturbed. Maybe it was OWL pressure. "Do you need help finding a book?"

Ilia was very lost in the book that she was read.......too lost, in fact. So lost that she didn't notice someone was backing up until....*THUNK*....her book slapped her forehead. It took her a second to process what had just happened. As she set her book aside and looked up, she realized it was Henric. "Henric....You can get my attention in nicer ways than slapping me with my book." She gave him a small smile to indicate that she was teasing him.
At his little fake girly gasp, she smiled a little wider and chuckled softly. "If I was I didn't do a very good job this time , since I got hit by my target." It seemed that whenever she was about ready to give up and start crying, he literally bumped into her. Maybe he sensed it, maybe it was coincidence, maybe he watched her. No matter the case, she always liked being around him even if she wasn't sure why or if she should.
All of that feeling and thinking that she was trying to avoid shifted to a different feeling she didn't quite understand yet. She leaned against him gently and hugged him close to her with a faint smile.
Sitting when the man offered for him to join him, Jay wiped his tears away completely. He wasn't crying. Nope. He nodded at the question and eyed the man. Why did the Ravenclaw head of house care if he was crying? "I read some books at home about Astronomy because I like the stars and I like space, but I kept being wrong in the lesson." he whispered. "I don't like being wrong."
"I see." Leo murmured quietly in response. Folding his hands in his lap he continued his gaze not leaving the youth's face. "Nobody really likes to be wrong and neither do I, but instead of letting it dishearten you and make you lose the evident interest you have for Astronomy you should double your efforts and study more. I'm sure that will make you perform better in the next lesson." Why kids these days thought they had to know everything right off the bat was beyond Leo's understanding. Knowledge was something you acquired from reading and paying attention in classes.

He grinned and shrugged jokingly back at her,"Hey,all in the days work, its my specialty I guess besides my good looks and amazing hair, I think I did pretty well getting your attention, you are hard to please ,Valke,"he told her sternly before breaking into quiet chuckling fits. But he stopped right away when she suddenly leaned onto him, her head resting on his shoulder.
Henric blinked, his immediate thought that there was something going on with his bestfriend that he didn't know about. Had she stumbled into anybody else, it definitely would have resulted more poorly, but fortunately for her it was just Adi who was about the coolest, most laid back student at Hogwarts. Like for real. It was no wonder the guy was a Hufflepuff, who was actually maybe just the sort of person who could help her sort through the angst in her mind.
Smiling briefly at him, she offered a subtle nod. "I'm alright... I'm just." She glanced around the many books that surrounded them, debating on if she should really share what was on her mind. She didn't want to get him involved, it wasn't necessarily his business, but maybe he could help. he was in a relationship with a Gryffindor, so maybe he had some insight? Words of wisdom?
Chewing her lower lip thoughtfully, she started again. "Well, no, I'm not. Well, unless, ... do you know any good books on relationship advice and teenage angst?" Tia laughed, though she was being totally serious.

Rooney just nodded at her 'Hufflepuff's are awesome' statment and smiled. He couldn't testify to that, as he didn't know many from that house. "She doesn't talk about it. But I found her yearbook when we moved to Paris." Actually, Rooney didn't know that she knew he knew. Not that it was a problem or would be any sort of problem.
... Three terms?
Uh.
"She graduated recently, yes.." He wasn't aware of the specifics of it. All he knew was she came back from Hogwarts and stayed with them for a few days. Under his bed, making sure that she held his hand.
"Oops, didn't mean to...is your forehead okay?"Henric asked her and subconsciously checked to see. The books she was carrying had some pretty hardcovers, he saw a bit of red on her forehead and gently tapped her forehead lightly.

Ilia allowed her bestie to inspect her forehead, though she flinched her eyes a little when he touched it. It felt odd, but not actually painful. "I think its fine." If she wasn't bleeding everywhere , missing any parts, or suffering broken bones she was fine. No reason to get dramatic, it might be a bump or a small bruise later at worst. It would heal if that happened and she was indifferent to it.
She chuckled against him a little at the amazing hair comment and hugged him warmly. Something about being in his arms calmed her nerves right down and being against his warmth made her feel better. She felt his hands upon her shoulders and allowed him to tilt her back so that they were looking face to face. A slight tinge of pink settled across her cheeks as she stared up into his eyes. She gave herself away with her actions, she supposed. What was wrong........should she tell him? Would it make a difference either way? She didn't think she could tell him about her emotions involving Leah and what had been said....what she wasn't sure that she felt. Her other problems though. "Do I need a reason to hug you, Nicolei?" She teased, offering him a sad smile. "I suppose.....my parents problems are getting to me more than I wish they would." She never did tell him why she'd had to move to England.

Nope.
It was very clear something was bothering his friend. This wasn't the Tia he remembered meeting back in DA nor was this the one he knew around Hogwarts. The regular Tia was a happy one. Adi weighed his options here. On one hand he could totally butt in and ask what was the problem but on the other hand he could be a good friend and wait until she decided to tell him what was going on. After all, she might not be ready to share.
But he was saved from that dilemma.
Oh. Relationships, huh? Adi laughed. "Nope, I have no idea about those books.'' He paused, his head tilted as he surveyed Tia. "You want to talk about it? I might not be able to give the best of advice but I am a great listener.'' Cue the grin! Yesh, The Puffer knew talking out things could make someone feel better and just maybe it would work for Tia, too.
"Well its not bleeding...I trust you that it will be fine,at best it will only leave a slight bruising, put some ice on it...it will do the trick,"Henric said,as if reading llia's mind. "Don't mind me,its part of the bestfriend protocol manual #101,just making sure your pretty forehead is still intact,"he teased, blowing on the bruise before ruffling with her hair.Hehe.
---------------------------------------
Henric smiled back at llia, ohh if she only knew...that whenever she did something unexpected,it was not only surprising but strangely kind of..in a way affected his physical 'senses'. Come on..he was a growing adolescent boy and he would react the same way how growing adolescent boy do...duhh... but he wasn't going to tell her that obviously!
"Uhh...maybe a warning next time is greatly appreciated..."he teased back,"No...I'm only joking, you can whenever you want...I'm here for you bestie...again its in the bestfriend protocol manual #101..can't believe you didn't go through that,"Henric grinned.Alright.. enough playing around Henric...time to get serious.llia had problems with her parents? He wondered what she meant by that. "What do you mean, llia?"he asked, he pulled her down and sat across from her. He waited patiently for her to respond again, it seemed like there were still some things he didn't know about her..especially about her family situation...it was probably a sensitive topic for her too so he didn't pry. Henric hadn't been telling the whole truth either to llia...maybe they should...

Making sure her pretty forehead is intact. She laughed a little as he blew on her bruise. She felt him ruffle her long blonde locks and it reminded her of her cousins greeting. What was it with boys and messing with her hair? "Making sure that you didn't break your best friend is in the protocol?" She teased him with a smile.
-----------------------
"I guess I need to get reading to reading this manual." She laughed a little at his teasing. He made her feel so much calmer just by being himself, she wasn't sure if she could've adjusted to Hogwarts so well without him. She was glad that she didn't have to know though.
He pulled her down gently into a sitting position across from him and the pink tinge increased a little without her realizing it. She did have a feminine side though she didn't always show it so much. She was a tomboy, but very much a girl without even realizing it herself. If she knew that her cheeks were pink, she would probably be embarrassed.
Now what did she mean? She thought that she may as well explain it to him, he was her best friend after all. "I never told you why I moved to England." She tucked her hair behind her right ear absentmindedly. "My mother and I moved because my parents just separated and are thinking about divorcing." Thinking about her family parting was very heavy, all of the arguing her parents had been doing and everything that her mother had said weighed on her heart. "My father stayed in Germany , because he works for the ministry." She played with her hair, looking down and it clearly bothered the young snakette though she tended to play it off. "That is why I was alone in Diagon Alley when you met me, my mother was making arrangements for her job. Its also why it was important for me to disobey my mother. It all felt so unfair to not have a choice in anything and that my feelings didn't seem to matter to anyone.......especially her." She still almost felt like crying still but she didn't want to look weak to the boy that had unknowingly been her savior. Especially with what other emotions she was dealing with.

The thing about the bookshelves was that there was a ton of them. In a library. Like wow, who knew, right? Toby knew. And he used them to his advantage.
Oh sure, he'd been doing a whole lot of NEWT study recently (enough to drive him crazy, to be honest), using as many books as possible to study from. Always turning up at the library with the real honest intention of working on his weakest subjects but ending up putting even more work in on his best ones instead, because it ended up being more soothing. NEWTs were weird.
But that wasn't the BEST way to use the bookshelves, Toby had realised as of late. Oh no. He'd actually found that they were a very good place to, uh... take a nap. See, studying sapped his energy much quicker than any sort of physical exercise, and it had become regular practice to slope off to one of the rarely used section of bookshelves, head up one of the aisles, flop onto the floor, and go right to sleep.
Nastily Exhausting Wizarding Tests. The name was accurate.
So that was what Toby was doing right now. Sleeping like a baby, right there on the floor in the Ancient Runes section, somewhere between 'the tiver phenomenon' and 'a detailed history of burins'. He was a twitchy sleeper, the perpetual motion thing being true even when he was off in dreamland, so was very clearly, y'know, alive. Under his head, being used as a pillow, was a copy of his DADA textbook. Very comfy it was, too.
