The Kitchen and Hufflepuff Common Room are accessed via the staircase to the right of the main staircase in the Entrance Hall. You follow along a dimly lit corridor adorned with paintings, the most notable of which is the still life of a bowl of fruit...
What's Hogwarts motto again? Never tickle a green pear?
A ship in harbor is safe — but that is not what ships are built for.
Natalia's motto whenever she arrived at a new place was: EXPLORE.
And that was exactly what she was doing.
Natalia had finished touring the upper levels as she scavenged down from the Gryffindor tower. She poked at some portraits (possibly woke some of them up unintentionally) and lurked in several empty classrooms. Hogwarts so HUUUUUGE and she LOVED it.
Now that the curious Lioness had reached the kitchen level, she had began to to feel a little tired. Maybe she could poke in the kitchen and grab something good to eat.
Wait a minute. Where was the entrance to the kitchen? o.O
Perhaps Natalia could ask the help of one of the Hufflepuffs; they should know, since they practically live down here. But the hall was completely empty with no living soul in sight. Great.
Refusing to give in, Natalia stood in front of the rather ugly, in her opinion portrait of a fruit bowl. She crossed her arms and stared straight at the portrait, not exactly using her brain to think, but mentally glowering at the fact she could not enter the kitchen.

GRRRRRR.
Leah was HUNGRYYY.
You couldn't help but be constantly hungry if you were a Hufflepuff and lived near the Kitchen. When she rounded the corner to her favorite corridor however, she was surprised to find nobody there except for a younger girl. But this place was supposed to be crowded with staff and students alike! She gave a friendly smile to the Gryffindor who was staring at the portrait.
"Are you going in?" asked Leah. It was always quite amusing to watch new students figuring out how to go into the Kitchen. Sorry, guys.

Still dazed in thought, Natalia turned around to see an unfamiliar face. It startled her quite a bit to see another living soul standing in front of her, since the corridor was completely silent just a few seconds ago. But the other's girl smile, however, reassured Natalia that there was nothing to worry about.
"Going...going in?" Natalia pointed to the fruit portrait in front of her. "Into the portrait? YOU CAN DO THAT?!" Natalia eyes glistened in fascination. Whoa! No one had never told her she could do that. "How? Do you just stick your hand in..." Without being responded to, Natalia prodded a finger onto the surface of the painting. Nothing happened, to her disappointment. :cc

Uhhh. Leah had actually meant going into the KITCHEN, but who cares. This was more fun anyway.
"Apparently you can," she lied shrugged. Technically, one COULD go into the portrait. You just had to find the handle first. The younger girl's glistening eyes immediately portrayed disappointment when she stuck her finger through the painting. And that was sad. The prodding part was funny though. Stifling a laugh, Leah decided to give a clue. "What was the School motto again? Never tickle a... green pear?" she muttered softly, as if she was only talking to herself. Hehe.

Natalia still looked doubtful even after the older girl reassured her that one could go into the painting. But after she had touched the portrait, Natalia confirmed the surface was too hard to penetrate. So it would be impossible for a physical being to walk through it, right?
Never tickle a green pear??"I thought it was 'Never tickle a sleeping dragon'?" An expression of mild confusion spread across Natalia's face. "Why never tickle a green pear though?" Never tickle a dragon made perfect sense, whether if it was asleep or not. But why pear?! WHAT WAS WRONG WITH TICKLING A GREEN PEAR.
"Wait seriously though, how do you get through..." Natalia had obviously not paid any attention to the details of the painting. It took her a moment to realize a huge green pear lying in the fruit bowl in that exact portrait, right in front of them. Ha, never tickle a green pear? Too bad.
Natalia tickled it. For giggles.
But what occurred right after took Natalia by surprise.
"Whoaa...a green doorknob!" It was as if Natalia had never seen a doorknob before. She poked it gently first, then twisted it open.
"OH MERLIN IT'S A SECRET CHAMBER!" Wait a minute... it's...NO WAY. THE BLOODY KITCHEN. "Why do they say 'do not tickle a green pear'?! That's ridiculous!"

Leah could almost hear the girl thinking. Bzzz. She smiled at the doubtful look on her face. Not an easy one to trick, Gryffindors were.
"Ohhh, right. Thank you for the reminder," she said, pretending to remember suddenly. Which was partially true because she did forget what the REAL School motto was. Nah, it didn't matter. At the question, she leaned in, looked around even though there was nobody else in the corridor and whispered, "Baaad things happen if you tickle... the green pear." Hahaha. It was actually the exact opposite. There was a room full of delicious wonder behind the painting.
The Hufflepuff folded her arms over her chest as the other girl began to intepret her words. This one was quite fast. She laughed when the pear giggled because it was just hilarious. Come on, just turn the doorknob. She thought to herself. She had momentarily forgotten her hunger, but it returned now that she was close to entering the Kitchen.
And she did it! "Congratulations, you made it to the OTHER Chamber of Secrets, or as we like to call it, the Kitchen." Leah gestured dramatically at the doorway. "Just for the fun, sweetie. What's your name?" She inquired, dropping the formality.

Natalia appeared proud of herself for figuring out the entrance to the kitchen. Woohoo! She should definitely become a detective...or an Auror, as the wizards called it. Hurhur.
"Chamber of Secrets?!" Although Nat knew the girl was mere joking, the mentioning of the legendary chamber stirred up some excitement in Natalia nonetheless. "OOOH! Is that down here too?! This level?! It should be, right? Or lower levels where the Slytherins live?" Natalia did not feel bad about asking too many questions at all. Many newbies to Hogwarts probably all reacted the same.
So the actual motto of the school was 'Never tickle a sleeping dragon' and NOT 'Never tickle a green pear'?[/i] GOOD. Because that made so much more sense.
"I'm Natalia! Gryffindor. Fourth year. And you can probably already tell that I'm new...hehe..." Natalia let out a small laugh. "You?" Seeing that this girl was slightly older, she should be in the fifth or sixth year.
Unable to find anymore posters other people had put up, Maggie had made her way downstairs again. Hmm. Maybe she should go ask for some green tea in the kitchen real quick. She was out and she couldn't go without it to be honest. Without it she was going to die. LITERALLY!
Well. Not literally but you know.
Anyway, once she was outside the kitchen, about to raise her hand to tickle the pear she paused. Huh. It seemed like she'd JUST now found the perfect spot to hang her last poster. So, forgetting all about her green tea, Maggie held up her last poster and used her wand to stick it to the painting of the bowl of fruit.
Alright. Now she could go back to her common room.

Seeing as Adi had performed his ode for the project to him during their potions brewing, Benny felt it was only right to show his best friend his own work. And what better way to do that rather then drag him to one or point it out when they passed one together? To actually post one near the Hufflepuff common room. That way he would see it every time he left his home away from home.
So after leaving the first floor corridor where he had left his second to last poster, Benny bypassed the ground floor and headed towards the kitchen level. "Achoo..." he sneezed, the cobwebs thicker down here. "Scourgify," he cast, cleaning a section of wall before unfurling the last poster he had made. Then using a sticking charm or three, the Gryffindor placed it up on the stone wall making it well seen by anyone coming this way to head upstairs. As long as nothing grew up around it.
Oh well...he was done.
Time to escape back upstairs.

History of Magic journal in hand, Kate wandered the corridors looking for a good place to write. She had decided that she wasn't much of a journal-keeper, but she'd finish her last twelve entries for this assignment and see what happened. She stopped at a random point on the kitchen level corridor where there was no one else around. Getting comfortable in a sitting position against the wall, she began to write.

Write some advice to someone based on a personal experience.
Every firstborn child probably just has IT ALL. They are their mother and father's FIRST child ever, so I think they have it a lot better than the children born afterwards. Why do I think this? Well, there are NO hand-me-downs. The first child gets everything brand new, and the parents put their heart and soul into every little thing, because they're so excited to be parents for the first time ever! I was that first child. As a matter of fact, I was almost eleven-years-old when my little brother was born. So I have eleven years of being the ONLY child.
In some ways it was good but in other ways it was bad. It was good for all of the reasons I mentioned above. Also, there were no other siblings around to annoy me or take my stuff. That's also the bad thing about being an only child, though. It gets boring and lonely. Really boring and lonely. Sure, my parents were always around, but there is nothing like always having another kid around. So for these reasons, I advise any kid out there to really appreciate their brothers and sisters. If you are an only child, then look forward to the day you may have a sibling. If you have siblings already, then give them a hug and tell them how glad you are to have them in your life.
Ryland is a toddler now, and I feel like I'm missing everything being here at Hogwarts. When I go home over the summer, I'm going to tell him all about it, though, and hopefully he'll look forward to coming here one day, too. My parents say he is walking and talking now, so I can't wait to go home this summer and see him in action! I really love him and am glad to be his older sister!
